ANNIE North American Tour to Play Portland's Keller Auditorium

Broadway in Portland will present the all-new tour of the iconic Tony Award-winning musical ANNIE will play Keller Auditorium from May 14 – 19,

 “This show, with its iconic title character, continues to delight generations of theatre-lovers old and new by joyfully singing directly into the face of great adversity with perseverance, guts and guile,” said director Jenn Thompson . “For decades, ANNIE has continued to shine brightly, not only as an appeal to our better angels, but also as an example of the thrill of hope, hard-won: promising a better ‘Tomorrow’ not only for Annie herself, but for all who need her message now more than ever.”

 ANNIE is directed by Jenn Thompson , who at the age of 10 stepped into the role of “Pepper” in the Original Broadway production, choreographed by Patricia Wilcox (Motown, A Night with Janis Joplin ), music supervision by Matthew Smedal , with orchestrations by Dan DeLange . Talitha Fehr is the Music Coordinator and Jennifer Christina is the Music Director.

 The design team includes scenic design by Wilson Chin (Pass Over), costume design by Alejo Vietti (Jersey Boys), based on lighting design by Philip Rosenberg , sound design by Ken Travis (Disney’s Aladdin), hair & wig design by Ashley Rae Callahan and casting by Paul Hardt of Hardt Casting , LLC. 

In the title role of Annie is Rainier “Rainey” Treviño, an 11 year old from Chesapeake, Virginia making her national tour debut.  Returning principal cast includes Stefanie Londino as “Miss Hannigan,” Christopher Swan as “Oliver Warbucks,” Julia Nicole Hunter as “Grace,” and Mark Woodard as “FDR.” Also starring in the tour are Jeffrey T. Kelly as “Rooster” and Krista Curry as “Lily.  Seamus stars as “Sandy.”

The Orphans are Savannah Austin , Saylor Curran, Arianna Guller , Addie Jaymes , Kylie Noelle Patterson and Jade Smith .

The featured ensemble includes Savannah Fisher , Jerquintez A. Gipson , Caroline Glazier , Chance K. Ingalls , Kaleb Jenkins , Jaelle Laguerre , Tony Mowatt , Ryan Mulvaney , Kaylie Mae Wallace , Callie Alexa , Brooke Olivia Gatto , and Trent Tyson .

Holding onto hope when times are tough can take an awful lot of determination, and sometimes, an awful lot of determination comes in a surprisingly small package. Little Orphan Annie has reminded generations of theatergoers that sunshine is always right around the corner, and now the best-loved musical of all time is set to return in this new production – just as you remember it and just when we need it most.  This celebration of family, optimism and the American spirit remains the ultimate cure for all the hard knocks life throws your way.

ANNIE features a book by Thomas Meehan , music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin . All three authors received 1977 Tony Awards for their work.  

By permission of Tribune Content Agency, LLC, ANNIE is based on Harold Gray 's popular comic strip “Little Orphan Annie” which premiered in the 1920s in the New York Daily News and became one of the most widely read strips in the 30s and 40s.  Lyricist Martin Charnin bought a coffee table book called “The Life and Hard Times of Little Orphan Annie” as a Christmas gift for a friend in 1970. The clerk at the bookstore was too busy to wrap the book, so Charnin took the book home to wrap it.  Instead, he read it and fell in love with the strip and set out to secure the rights. The friend never got the book.

  The original production of ANNIE had its world premiere on Aug 10, 1976 at the Goodspeed Opera House (Michael J. Price, Executive Director) and opened on Broadway on April 21, 1977 at the Alvin Theatre ( Neil Simon theatre).  It went on to win the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical, seven Drama Desk Awards including Best Musical, the Grammy for Best Cast Show Album and seven Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book ( Thomas Meehan ) and Best Score ( Charles Strouse , Martin Charnin ).  It closed on Broadway after playing 2,377 performances.  ANNIE was revived on Broadway in 1997 and again in 2014. It has been made into a film three times (1982, 1999, 2014) and was most recently featured as a live television production on NBC.  The show remains one of the biggest Broadway musical hits ever; it has been performed in 28 languages and has been running somewhere around the world for 45 years.  

  The beloved score for ANNIE includes “Maybe,” “It’s the Hard Knock Life,” “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile,” “Easy Street,” “I Don’t Need Anything But You” and the eternal anthem of optimism, “Tomorrow.”

Leapin’ Lizards! TROIKA Entertainment, LLC announced today that an all-new tour of Annie will hit the road in the fall of 2022.

This new tour of the iconic Tony Award ® -winning production is directed by  Jenn Thompson , who at the age of 10 stepped into the role of “Pepper” in the Original Broadway production. Scenic designs for the touring production are by Wilson Chin , whose work was most recently featured on Broadway in the critically acclaimed production of  Pass Over .

The Grammy-winning singer is set to kick off her world tour in support of her new 'Hit Me Hard and Soft' album in September.

Billie Eilish fans shouldn’t expect three-hour concerts anytime in the near future.

Following the release of her third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft , the Grammy and Oscar winner took to the music app Stationhead to answer fan questions live.

While Eilish didn’t direct her comments at a particular artist, some Swifties questioned if she was throwing shade at the “Fortnight” singer, who is currently on the European leg of her Eras Tour that runs more than three hours. However, Eilish has previously praised Swift and Beyoncé for their ability to perform long shows.

“I find it really hard to play stadiums,” the “What Was I Made For?” singer told the Los Angeles Times in October 2023. “Beyoncé and Taylor [Swift] are untouchable superstars; the fact that they can put on a show that long, and it’s filled with so many incredible moments, is really amazing.”

Other artists have also been performing hours-long concerts for years, including music legends such as Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney. Last year, on the Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend podcast , The Beatles singer even said he “blames” Springsteen for increasingly long stage times that artists are expected to play today, compared to back in the ’60s.

Eilish was also asked on the Stationhead app if she planned to include every song from Hit Me Hard and Soft on the set list for her upcoming world tour , which kicks off in September and wraps in July 2025. The “Lunch” singer said that she “can’t do that” because the show would be “like a million years long” due to popular tracks from her previous albums that she plans to perform.

SECOND MARRIAGE

Korea’s CJ ENM has given a second season commission to “ Couple Palace ,” its hit couple matching survival show. The show stars fifty men and fifty women from various backgrounds who unveil their detailed social status to search for ideal partners based on elements such as ideal marriage values, physical appearance, economic status, and lifestyle. It premiered on CJ ENM’s affiliate music channel Mnet in January 2024.

Annie Shapero , best known for her role in Israeli series “Red Skies,” which won best drama series at Series Mania in 2023, is confirmed to have joined the cast of premium Australian series “ The Narrow Road to the Deep North .” Having made a start in live theater, Shapero also recently appeared in FX pilot, “The Border,” adapted from the third book in Don Winslow’s bestselling Cartel Trilogy.

Directed by Justin Kurzel , “Narrow Road,” which stars Jacob Elordi, Ciaran Hinds and Odessa Young , is an adaptation of the Booker Prize-winning novel by Richard Flanaghan , which chronicles a century dominated by war, with the forced labor on the Thai-Burma Railway as its dramatic heart. The story is told by an Australian doctor who was taken prisoner during World War II and became an unlikely and uncomfortable hero after the war’s end. 

ANOTHER DROP

Apple TV+ has acquired season two of hit, multilingual French-Japanese drama “ Drops of God ” from Legendary Entertainment and producers Les Productions Dynamic in association with 22H22 and Adline Entertainment . The streamer will release it worldwide excluding Japan.

In season two of “Drops of God,” Camille (portrayed by Fleur Geffrier ) and Issei ( Yamashita Tomohisa ) once again face a nearly impossible challenge: to uncover the origin of the world’s most wonderful wine. Through a series of trials and tests, their quest will take them to far-flung corners of the globe, force them to face their inner demons, and change them forever. 

Season two will be directed by Oded Ruskin  (“No Man’s Land,” “Absentia”), who also directed the first season. Season one was created by  Quoc Dang Tran (“Marianne,” “Parallel”) and produced by Klaus Zimmermann (“Trapped”).

Taylor Swift has left the building. In Portugal anyway – but it seems the European country and its capital has left its mark on the record-breaking star.

After wrapping her second and final concert there Sunday evening, Swift took to Instagram to pen a loving thankyou note to Lisbon and its audience, writing:

“It’s official, I left my [heart] in Lisbon. My first time in Portugal and you all made me feel like I was right at home.

And in a video on X (formerly Twitter), Taylor referred to her previous music eras, naming her albums Red, Fearless, and Speak Now, which she toured throughout the world:

“And during the course of those tours… we made so many fun memories, but the one thing that I wish I would have done differently is I wish I could have brought every one of those tours to come see you in Lisbon.

“I have to say, I’ve just never seen a crowd like this in my life. There have been moments in this show already where I like, forget what I’m supposed to do next or what I’m supposed to say because I’m just so distracted by how much fun you’re having and how you’re performing in the audience. I love this.”

However, before her Portuguese fans think they’re too special, they might want to read Swift’s similarly gushing tribute to Sweden after her tour traveled there last week.

“’Stockholm!!!! Thank you for being the most generous, excitable, magical crowds, and for breaking the all time attendance record for the stadium all 3 nights. 

“Can’t believe this was our first time playing in Sweden – but it won’t be our last…”

Swift will now take the record-breaking tour onto Madrid, then Lyon in France this week, before arriving in the UK on Jun 7.
