TLC Postpone Four Canadian Tour Dates After T-Boz Hit With Flu Bug

Springsteen announced the dates for his 2023 European tour in May, explaining on SiriusXM’s E Street Radio that after nearly five years off the road it was time for him to get the band back together. “It’s kind of mind boggling to be honest with you… IT doesn’t feel that long, but,  you know, we stayed busy over that time, but still it’s, I’m really, I’ve got the Jones to play live very badly at this point,” Springsteen said of getting back at it with the band for the first time since they recorded 2020’s  Letter to You  album. “So, I’m deeply looking forward to getting out there in front of our fans.”

The group is gearing up to hit the road for the first time since the conclusion of their 14-month global River Tour, which kicked off in 2016. According to a release announcing the new dates, since the 2023 European dates were announced in May more than 1.2 million tickets have already been sold. After the end of the European run — scheduled for April-July 2023 — the band will begin a second as-yet-unannounced string of North American shows in August; tour dates in the UK are also slated for next year, with the details to be announced soon.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will return to the road in early 2023, launching a series of to-be-announced U.S. arena dates in February, followed by European stadium shows kicking off on April 28 in Barcelona, with a second North American tour leg starting in August.

"After six years, I’m looking forward to seeing our great and loyal fans next year. And I’m looking forward to once again sharing the stage with the legendary E Street Band. See you out there, next year -- and beyond," Springsteen said.

The planned European stops are Barcelona, Dublin, Paris, Ferrara, Rome, Amsterdam, Landgraaf, Zurich, Dusseldorf, Gothenburg, Oslo, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Vienna, Munich and Monza. Additional cities and shows in the U.K. and Belgium will be announced at a later date.

The 2023 dates will mark the first live shows for Springsteen and the E Street Band since the conclusion of their 14-month, worldwide “The River” tour in Australia in February of 2017. The group last played publicly on “Saturday Night Live” in December 2020, where they performed two songs from their most recent studio album, “Letter to You.”

Last year, Springsteen, who will be 73 when the tour launches, released the group’s “The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts” film, collaborated with former President Barack Obama on the book “Renegades: Born in the USA” and reprised his “Springsteen on Broadway” show to help reopen New York City’s theaters last summer.

Bruce Springsteen tour setlist: See what he played at BTS Hyde Park in London

bruce springsteen tour juli 2023

LONDON − Bruce Springsteen didn’t hold back in his two-night run before 70,000 faithful in Hyde Park this weekend.

Before heading to the U.S. for a series of outdoor dates , The Boss and his E Street Band have been treating European fans − and dancing, singing celebrity admirers − to a host of anthemic staples that inevitably spur an endless series of singalongs.

For his closing night in London, Springsteen ran through a wide array of hits certain to please a range of fans, which on Saturday ranged from grandparents to a few toddlers with earplugs.

There were variations in the two shows: Fans at the first night got "Born in the USA" and "Thunder Road," whereas the second audience got "Darkness on the Edge of Town."

The Other Eras Tour: 9 Thoughts on Bruce Springsteen at Madison Square Garden

By Brian Hiatt

Brian Hiatt

After a two-hour-plus main set that slammed home themes of mortality and impermanence and the way of all flesh, Bruce Springsteen reemerged on Madison Square Garden’s stage Saturday night, April 1, for his usual lengthy encore, and announced “something special for New York City.” He pointed over at Soozie Tyrell, who began a dead-on recreation of one of rock’s few canonical violin melodies, over piano from all-time-great arpeggio purveyor Roy Bittan. They eased the E Street Band into the 11-minute-long, 48-year-old mini-rock-opera “Jungleland,” played and sung with enough muscle and drama and soaring perfection to momentarily make the rest of the show’s messages seem like a lie. Death? Impossible. Decline? Not tonight.

Editor’s picks

Every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term, the 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history.

Still, he could mix it up a bit more. Besides the “Jungleland” addition, there is one near-wildcard slot in the setlist, filled at MSG with his taut-as-ever, if overused over the years, reworking of Jimmy Cliff’s “Trapped” (at the previous stop on the tour, it was “Darkness on the Edge of Town” in that slot, which would’ve been more welcome). In the actual Eras Tour, Taylor Swift has a truly rotating song slot, offering a chance to slip the deepest of cuts into the set every night. With Springsteen’s vast catalog, including the entire, as-yet-unplayed-before-a-paying-audience Western Stars album from 2019 (that title track, one of his best-ever songs, should kill live), slipping in one real obscurity every night certainly couldn’t hurt. There’s other songs, too, including “Johnny 99,” that seem eminently swappable on any given night.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band Will Chronicle Tour Prep in 'Road Diary' Documentary

Bruce springsteen and the e street band are playing on the beach in asbury park. here's how it happened, bruce springsteen plots return to the road in spring 2024.

Max Weinberg, who has the greatest physical challenge of anyone in the band as a 71-year-old arena-rock drummer, has been preparing for this tour practically since the last one ended in 2017, and his feel, groove, and sense of time seemed subtler than ever. A shades-wearing Garry Tallent was, as always, impossibly locked into Weinberg’s kick drum, even as the arena’s inevitable muddiness sometimes meant he was more felt than heard. It’s always fun to figure out what parts Nils Lofgren — now a simultaneous Crazy Horse member and E Streeter — is adding to the mix, from a fancy rhythm guitar-bit on “No Surrender” to a chops-enhanced version of a guitar break originated by Springsteen on “Rosalita.”

This tour’s extra horns and singers only enhanced the show — with just a couple of exceptions. The horn section, in particular, is most welcome when it’s doing something interesting, which is often, as on the New Orleans breaks of “Johnny 99,” on the twin songs from The Wild, The Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle , and of course “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out.” It only feels superfluous when the players are roped into recapitulating, and almost overpowering, signature riffs during two encore hits, “Dancing in the Dark” and “Glory Days.”

Jake Clemons is a miracle. Springsteen’s songs evoked ghosts throughout the evening, and Clemons invoked one just in his playing and presence. His big-lunged tenor sax tone has always had an uncanny resemblance to his late uncle Clarence Clemons’ otherwise singular sound. But at the Garden, after more than a decade in the band, Jake sounded more like his late predecessor than ever, even as, at age 43, he continued to bring his own youthful-by-E-Street standards energy to the stage. From the start, the other 21st-century replacement for a departed E Streeter, skilled keyboardist Charlie Giordano, has seemed less wedded to Danny Federici’s organ parts. But then again, Federici himself was rarely wedded to his own studio parts on any given night.

Even if some of the crowd had trouble staying in the moment, Springsteen never did.  He still shut his eyes in utter immersion as he sang “Badlands” for the 1,229th time, and still drew energy from the audience in some eerie yet very real way. (Yes, that number is correct, per Brucebase .) He still has some surprises left on guitar, with his solo on “Kitty’s Back” noticeably straying from his usual harmonic vocabulary to match his horn players’ more adventurous note choices. And his voice continues to do that weird thing where it somehow sounds stronger towards the end of the show than at the beginning.

It’s “sways,” damn it. Newly aware of the mildly ludicrous debate over whether Mary’s dress sways or waves on “Thunder Road,” Springsteen is now singing “sways” with exaggerated clarity and a huge smile.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band to star in 'Road Diary' on Hulu, Disney+

What's life like backstage with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band?

Find out in “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band,” which debuts on Hulu and Disney+ in October. The documentary has “exclusive footage” from E Street's current tour, beginning in January 2023 with rehearsals at the Vogel in the Count Base Center for the Arts in Red Bank. There are also interviews with band members, including Springsteen, and concert footage.

Thom Zimny, a frequent Springsteen collaborator, is the director.

“ 'Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band' opens a new door to Springsteen’s creative process for fans around the world, sharing fly-on-the-wall footage of band rehearsals and special moments backstage — as well as hearing from Springsteen himself,” states a Hulu/Disney+ release. “These conversations follow Springsteen closely as he develops the story he wants to tell with this tour’s setlist — interspersed with rare archival clips of the E Street Band, underscoring themes of life, loss, mortality and community. In this way, it serves as an essential and never-before-seen chapter in an autobiographical series spanning Springsteen’s memoir 'Born to Run,' 'Springsteen on Broadway,' and the films 'Western Stars' and 'Letter to You.' ”

The tour began Feb. 1, 2023, in Tampa, and was marked by positive critical reviews — and a rash of absences by E Street Band members because of COVID. Steven Van Zandt, Nils Lofgren, Jake Clemons, Soozie Tyrell and Lisa Lowell all missed shows.

Several shows were also postponed due to an undisclosed illness, and for a Springsteen illness, as stated for two shows at Citizens Bank Ballpark in Philadelphia last August.

After three triumphant shows at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford (Aug. 30, and Sept. 1 and 3), Springsteen announced the tour was postponed for the rest of the year as he battled peptic ulcer disease.

“The last four shows, I was playing really ill,” said Springsteen March 21 on SiriusXM's E Street Radio with Jim Rotolo. “So that was Foxborough, which was a great show, and the three Meadowlands shows, which were all, really — the band playing at its best and in front of a great New Jersey audience and a great Boston audience. But I was really not well.”

The tour resumed March 19 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, and its currently in Ireland, where shows are running over three hours.

The exact date for the debut of “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band” has not been released yet.

Disney+ and Hulu have set a new Bruce Springsteen documentary for an October premiere.

“Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band” will follow the band’s 2023-2024 world tour, featuring footage from band rehearsals and backstage moments, conversations with Springsteen as he develops the setlist and archival clips of the E Street Band. The project is intended to complement Springsteen’s existing body of autobiographical works, which includes the memoir “Born to Run,” the live performance (and documentary) “Springsteen on Broadway,” and the films “Western Stars” and “Letter to You.”

Popular on Variety

The documentary is not the only Springsteen project soon headed to screens. “The Bear” star Jeremy Allen White is in talks to play the legendary rocker in an upcoming biopic titled “Deliver Me From Nowhere,” which will follow the making of the 1982 album “Nebraska.” “Succession” star Jeremy Strong is in talks to play Landau , as Variety exclusively reported, while 20th Century Studios recently boarded as distributor of the Gotham Group-produced film.

Road Diary Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band

Glory days are ahead at Disney.

Disney on Tuesday, during its upfront presentation to Madison Avenue ad buyers, announced that concert documentary film Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band would stream on both Disney+ and Hulu at a date to be determined in October.

The film, which is described as being the “most in-depth look” at how the band prepares for live performances, will feature unprecedented behind the scenes access to their 2023-24 world tour.

Road Diary is the latest music special to come to streaming as docs in the space continue to appeal to diehard fans of some of the biggest bands and singers. Netflix found success with The Greatest Night in Pop (focused on USA for Africa’s “We Are the World”) and Disney also streamed the concert film surrounding Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour . Hulu also recently launched a doc following Bon Jovi.

Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Road Diary’ doc will chronicle his current tour with the E Street Band

The rock doc is coming to Hulu and Disney+ in October, while the narrative film starring Jeremy Allen White starts shooting in the fall.

Bruce Springsteen performs with the E Street Band during their stop at the Wells Fargo Center on March 16, 2023. A new documentary will chronicle the tour.

Bruce Springsteen ’s current tour with the E Street Band is being chronicled in a new documentary.

Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band , directed by longtime Springsteen associate Thom Zimny, will screen on Hulu and Disney+ in October.

The film follows Springsteen and the E Street Band members from rehearsals in Red Bank, N.J., through a tour that played the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia in March 2023 , and was meant to include two shows at Citizens Bank Park in South Philly last August.

Those shows were called off at the last minute due to a Springsteen illness that was mysterious at the time, but was later revealed to be peptic ulcer disease. It resulted in the postponement of all of his tour dates in the fall and winter of 2023.

Springsteen and the E Streeters are back on the road now. They’re in Ireland this week and scheduled to return to the U.S. this summer, with shows in Pittsburgh on Aug. 14 and 25, before the rescheduled Philadelphia dates on Aug. 21 and 23. They are also slated to play a hometown show at the Sea.Hear.Now Festival in Asbury Park on Sept. 15.

Zimny also directed the Springsteen documentaries focused on his albums Western Stars and Letter to You , as well as the films Elvis Presley: The Searcher and Willie Nelson and Family .

Road Diary promises “fly-on-the-wall footage of band rehearsals and special moments backstage,” according to a news release, and interviews underscoring the tour’s “themes of life, loss, mortality and community.” It’s produced by Zimny along with Springsteen, Springsteen’s manager Jon Landau, Adrienne Gerard, and Sean Stuart.

It’s the second Springsteen film project in the works, along with Deliver Me From Nowhere , the movie based on Warren Zanes’ book of the same title which will be written and directed by Scott Cooper and stars Jeremy Allen White of The Bear as Springsteen. Succession star Jeremy Strong is touted to play Landau. That film, about the making of Springsteen’s 1982 album, Nebraska , will begin shooting in the fall of this year.

Springsteen and the E Street Band’s tour is currently scheduled to run through November, with fall dates across Canada.

Bruce Springsteen Documentary ‘Road Diary' Sets Premiere Date At Hulu, Disney+

Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band , a new documentary chronicling Springsteen and company’s prep for their 2023-2024 World Tour, will premiere on Hulu and Disney+ in October of this year. An exact launch date is forthcoming.

Directed by Springsteen’s longtime collaborator, Thom Zimny ( Western Stars ), the doc offers unprecedented, behind-the-scenes access to the 2023-2024 world tour, presenting the most in-depth look ever at the creation of these live performances. It opens a new door to Springsteen’s creative process for fans around the world, sharing fly-on-the-wall footage of band rehearsals and special moments backstage, as well as testimonials from Springsteen himself. These conversations follow Springsteen closely as he develops the story he wants to tell with this tour’s setlist - interspersed with rare archival clips of The E Street Band, underscoring themes of life, loss, mortality and community. In this way, the film serves as a new chapter in an autobiographical series spanning Springsteen’s memoir Born to Run , Springsteen on Broadway , and the films Western Stars and Letter to You .

Road Diary opens with a look at the band’s earliest rehearsals in Red Bank, New Jersey and follows them through performances for tens of thousands across continents. The doc’s producers are Zimny, Jon Landau, Springsteen, Adrienne Gerard and Sean Stuart.

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band capped the first 2024 leg of their world tour in April - a cross-country U.S. run that brought surprise guests, blistering three-hour shows and setlist rarities (totaling 60 different songs through 11 performances). The band is in the midst of playing 25 shows throughout Europe this spring and summer - after last year’s European tour sold 1.6 million tickets - and will return to North America for more dates from August through late November.

A new Bruce Springsteen album or movie coming in 2024? Here's what we know

3 minute read.

bruce springsteen tour juli 2023

It's going to be a very eventful 2024 for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.

The Boss and band have more than 40 shows scheduled for the United States and Europe on the 2024 World Tour. The run starts March 19 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix.

The upcoming shows are either new or rescheduled dates being made up after Springsteen postponed 2023 shows due to a bout with peptic ulcer disease. Most of the new shows are in Europe, but a March show in Las Vegas was added.

There might also be news away from the concert stage this year, according to recent multiple reports. Nothing is confirmed so far, and Team Springsteen is quiet, but let's take a look at what we know and what we don't know.

Springsteen is reported to be collaborating with filmmaker Scott Cooper (“Crazy Heart”) on a cinematic telling of the making of the Boss’ solo landmark album, “Nebraska,” according to Showbiz 411 . The report cites an unnamed source and does not provide many details.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

There is a “Nebraska” collaboration precedent. Springsteen was interviewed for Warren Zanes’ recent book, “Deliver Me from Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska,” so the album is a topic of active interest for the Boss.

“Nebraska” was a bold departure for Springsteen, a lo-fi exploration of American Gothic ennui at a time when he was rocketing to the top of charts. The album was written and recorded in a modest home in Colts Neck, overlooking the Swimming River Reservoir.

We can confirm that the “Tramps Like Us” documentary, “the story of the extraordinary relationship Springsteen fans share with the Boss, the music and each other,” is raising funds through a Kickstarter campaign.

Filmmaker David Barry, who made the similarly-themed doc about U2 fans called “Dream Out Loud,” is the director.

Will there new a new album in 2024?

Yes, said Rolling Stone in an article titled “28 Rock Albums We’re Looking Forward To In 2024.” The piece didn't provide a specific album, but speculated that the follow up to the R&B and soul covers album “Only the Strong Survive,” or “Tracks 2,” would be forthcoming.

A “Tracks 2” has been speculated about for years — or decades by now.

An “Only the Strong Survive” sequel makes sense as the album, which is up for a Grammy in the Best Traditional Pop Category, was billed as a “Volume 1.”

Yet releasing a Springsteen solo album with the E Street Band on the road doesn't seem like the thing to do unless the E Streeters play on Volume 2. On “Only the Strong Survive,” producer Ron Aniello played most of the instruments, except for the horns and strings.

Then again, there is a new Night Shift band, which includes ex-E Street member David Sancious, so that could factor into all of this.

If Volume 2 does come out this year, the cover or inside art was apparently shot in January 2023 by Danny Clinch at the Turf Club in Asbury Park. It's the last remaining club of the venerated Springfield Avenue music scene of the West Side of Asbury Park.

Another factor is the upcoming Patti Sciafa solo album. It's finished, and chances are Springsteen would not release anything around the time the Scialfa record comes out.

Whew! We can safely say Thrill Hill studios in Colts Neck have been quite busy. Check back here for news as it happens.

Bruce Springsteen concert documentary about recent tour coming to Disney+, Hulu

  • Published: May. 15, 2024, 9:08 a.m.

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band

A documentary film about Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s recent tour, which included three concerts in Upstate New York, is coming to Disney+ and Hulu this fall.

Billboard reports “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band” will be released on both Disney-owned streaming services in October. The documentary will feature an inside look at how The Boss and his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group prepare for their live shows, combining archival footage with behind-the-scenes video of their 2023-2024 world tour.

It’s unclear which cities will be featured in the film, but the tour included nearly three-hour shows in Buffalo, Albany and Syracuse packed with unforgettable moments and rare song performances. Springsteen played “Growin’ Up” for the first time on the tour at Syracuse University’s JMA Wireless Dome, a show that was delayed months by Springsteen’s battle with peptic ulcer disease .

Springsteen fans will especially be excited to hear new interviews with the 74-year-old singer and firsthand accounts of the band performing on stage, including how they choose songs to play backstage.

“These conversations follow Springsteen closely as he develops the story he wants to tell with this tour’s setlist — interspersed with rare archival clips of The E Street Band, underscoring themes of life, loss, mortality and community. In this way, it serves as an essential and never-before-seen chapter in an autobiographical series spanning Springsteen’s memoir ‘ Born to Run ,’ ‘Springsteen on Broadway,’ and the films ‘Western Stars’ and ‘Letter to You,’” Disney said in an official announcement.

“Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band” will be produced by Springsteen and directed by longtime collaborator, Emmy- and Grammy Award winner Thom Zimny (”Springsteen on Broadway,” “Western Stars”). An exact release date will be announced later this year, Disney said.

Another Springsteen movie is also on the way. “The Bear” star Jeremy Allen White is reportedly playing The Boss in a biopic, based on Warren Zanes’ 2023 book, that will focus on the rock legend’s acclaimed 1982 album, “Nebraska.” Jeremy Strong (”Succession”) is said to be in talks to play Springsteen’s longtime manager, Jon Landau in the Scott Cooper-directed “Deliver Me from Nowhere.”
