Madrid, Spain

Being the capital of Spain and its largest city, Madrid is also a popular tourist destination. Variety of monuments from different epochs, rich history, and unique culture attract tourists from around the world. Madrid's official symbol is a bear eating fruits from a strawberry tree. The statue reflects the scale of the city growth, and also serves as a reminder of the times when wild bears roamed where Madrid's landmarks are located now.

Madrid built on a plateau at an altitude of 650 meters. In 852 its steep location inspired the emir Muhammad I to build Alcazar, a Muslim fortress of great importance. Over the course of numerous wars, the citadel changed its owners several times. In 1083 Alfonso VI conquered Alcazar, and the city became a stronghold of the Christians in their struggle against the Moors.

Five centuries later the city of Madrid was proclaimed the capital of State and Empire. It caused a high level of migration: the population of Madrid has increased threefold (up to 60 thousand people) during few years, which promoted active growth of construction industry, especially in residential areas. Although the Kingdom of Spain lost most of its power during 17 th century, the city of Madrid continued enjoying its "golden" age for many more years. Lope de Vega, Cervantes, Calderon, Diego Velázquez, and Francisco de Zurbaran lived and worked in Madrid. A lot of efforts were put to developing arts and science: El Prado Museum, Royal Botanic Gardens, and Royal Academies were established here; and Royal glass, tapestry, and porcelain factories gave a significant boost to the industry development. As a result, by the end of 18 th century Madrid's population was 170 thousand people.

In 1808 Napoleon's army took Madrid; the Liberation war became Spanish Revolution. Next grand remodeling of Madrid happened at the end of 19 th — beginning of 20 th centuries, as if the city has decided to start its life from a clean slate: many old city walls and monasteries were demolished; wide boulevards took place of old city streets, and new Modern-style buildings appeared along the roads. There were electricity, telephone communication, city trams, and subway system in Madrid. And finally, Telefónica Company erected first sky-scrapper in the capital of Spain in 1929.

Some of the historical monuments were damaged during Civil War. However starting 1950s the city of Madrid entered its period of growth again. Saving landmarks of its legendary past, Madrid went on building new exciting architectural masterpieces.

Today's population of Spain's capital is over three and a half million people. The city of Madrid is located right in the middle of the country. Puerta del Sol, the central city square, features Zero Kilometer sign, which is the beginning of the radial network of all main Spanish roads.

Located 300 kilometers away from the sea, the city of Madrid doesn't have its own beaches. However, comparing to other European capitol cities, Madrid has a leading number of parks. The splendid beauty of Madrid's nature and cultural landmarks are available for you on our virtual panoramas. Enjoy!

Wonderful photos. Thank you. Just a historical correction, Spain did not lose most of its power in the XVII century. It actually continued being the largest overseas Western European Empire until the end of the XVIII century. From a territorial point of view, the Hispanic Monarchy was at its apex around 1780, when its control actually expanded in America up to the border of California with the current state of Washington while it continued to retain the Philippines in the East. Only the British Empire in the mid XIX century could compare to what Spain had achieved since 1492 among the biggest European and world powers.

Well done ruskies!!! Only a little correction, in the text between 4th and 5th photographys there is a mistake. Spain didn`t fight in the WWII, damages that you speaks are from the Civil War (1936-1939). And at the next text between 5th an 6th photos you say Madrid has a population over a half billion!!! Its imposible!!! It has more than three millions, and the metropolitan area more than six millions. Thanks for your job, it?s amazing!

Jon Alono Oses, Spain

Dear Jon, we corrected the text. Thank you for your comment!

Madrid: The History

A doorway to Spain’s past, Seville is a city that slowly charms and wins you over. The land where Columbus departed from for his world exploration has evolved to a rousing mix of Mudéjar palaces, gothic churches, flamenco clubs and winding medieval lanes.

It’s a bummer you’re not in Seville right now, but here’s a sumptuous flavour of the city to make you feel a tad better. Tap your feet to some good ol’ flamenco, visually stroll the gorgeous Plaza de España and consume the beauty of the Catedral de Sevilla. You’ll soon be heading there to see all of this and more in person!

The Tomb in Seville

Sprawling at the foot of Sierra Nevada, Granada is almost synonymous with the alluring fortress of Alhambra. The legacy of the Spanish Moors wafts in the spicy aromas, bohemian cafes, teterías (teahouses) and not to forget the intricate stalactite patterns of the Alhambra.

Granada makes it to every Spain itinerary and we’re sure (we hope) it was in yours too! If not, better late than never! Also, Alhambra in Granada is the MOST visited attraction in Spain. Now that’s a reason enough to head there, right?

Traveling Virtually

Spain from home.

No matter whether you are in the middle of planning a new trip to Spain or simply daydreaming of visiting one day – modern technological advances allow one to get the first glimpse of a new country while sipping a morning coffee on the way to work. Visualizing your favorite destinations these days is easier than ever – you can keep feeding your Spain wanderlust at any time.

If Spain is one of your favorite destinations (like it was for me, before turning into an expat ) – you will be happy to find out that there are many ways to keep your relationship with this country alive from a distance. You can start improving your Spanish , get new coffee table books, follow inspiring Spanish travel blogs … or even read popular contemporary novels , Spain travel quotes , and binge-watching Spanish TV shows , as Spaniards do. Even listening to the Spanish music (no matter whether it´s romantic songs or vintage records ) is a joy of its kind.

Not only are all of the mentioned activities extremely wanderlust-fueling, but they are essential for gaining unique cultural insights and learning more about Spanish habits .

Best Spain Virtual Tours

Where to find spain virtual tours.

This post with give you a chance to get a glimpse of some of the top Spanish landmarks . Even though these days you still can not see everything online (like any other country Spain is full of local hidden gems and secret museums ) – yet exploring some of the most iconic sights online is the second best thing.

If you plan to explore Spain with kids – enjoying a few Spain virtual tours together might be helpful for keeping the little ones inspired as well. Sometimes it´s better to show them the plan, rather than try to explain it.

One of the first virtual hubs for art lovers is Google Art & Culture , Spain is no exception – check the collections here and don´t miss the Discover Spain section. Another international virtual travel tool is Google Earth for Spain .

YouTube channels can help in the process of exploring Spain virtually: Amazing Places on Our Planet (with its Andalusia playlist ), worldfromabove Spain From Abov e, Scenic Relaxation with Spain 4K .

Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sports

The Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sports has a few museum tours available online like the Museum of the Americas , El Greco Museum , and Cervantes House Museum , one of the top Spanish house museums . Although finding things on their YouTube channel is honestly a bit confusing.

Fans of the beautiful gardens in Spain should check vivirlosparques.es .

Other projects

At Airpiano.com you can enjoy some epic panoramas of the Spanish cities and landmarks. Via 360 Stories you can get a brief preview of most of the sights in Barcelona and Madrid .

Spain Virtual Tours for Different Regions

barcelona barrio gotico

Let´s open this list of Spain virtual tours with the most visited city of Barcelona. Even though I got a lot of arguments on preferring Madrid over Barcelona , I am completely aware of the fact that Barcelona is an awesome city and its charm is pretty undeniable.

You can find many top sights of the Catalonia Region at web.gencat.cat – Monuments and Nature&Hiking , including the iconic Salvador Dali Museum .

Most of the Gaudi architectural creations offer their own virtual experiences, like Sagrada Familia ,  Casa Batllo , and La Pedrera .

Barcelona City Council L´Ajuntament de Barcelona provides virtual tours of its own.

At the same time, football fans must check Camp Nou – the headquarters of Barcelona FC.

One of the most epic monasteries in Spain , Montserrat, is also available for online visit here .

puerta alcala madrid

Lots of top museums in Madrid are available online – Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales , Museo Arqueológico Nacional , Museo Nacional Thyssen- , Retiro Park ,  Sabatini Gardens ,  Almudena Cathedral ,  Royal Botanical Garden . Also, to explore the Spanish capital online don´t miss Living Madrid .

The nearest small town of Alcala de Henares , a must-stop on every Don Quixote road trip , offers a great virtual tour experience.

You can also check my IG Highlight Madrid to watch all the details of our spontaneous getaway to Christmas Madrid .

Spain Virtual Tours - malaga

Most of the touristic sights in Andalusia can be seen via juntadeandalucia.es .

When it comes to Seville , one of my favorite places in Spain , you simply can´t miss the Alcázar of Seville , The Cathedral of Seville , and Sevilla en 360 (including La Catedral de Sevilla and Museo y Basílica de la Hermandad de la Macarena ).

Moreover, one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World, Granada´s Alhambra , offers an interactive map online .

Except for its stunning cultural heritage, Andalusia is full of Spanish natural wonders including   Parque Natural Cabo de Gata-Níjar , Parque Natural Sierra de Baza , Parque Natural Sierra Mágina , Reserva Natural Laguna de Fuente de Piedra , Parque Natural Sierra de Cardeña y Montoro , Parque Natural Bahía de Cádiz , Parque Natural Sierra Norte .

fallas festivities in spain

While being based in the Region of Valencia , this Spanish autonomous community is the one I explore on a daily basis.

Top local landmarks you can currently find online: Museo de Las Artes y Ciencias , Oceanografic , Ceramic Museum of Valencia , San Nicolas Church , Museo de Bellas Artes .

Castille-Leon

ermita de san saturio soria castile leon

Some of the top landmarks in Castille-Leon can be checked at turismocastillayleon.com .

Also, don´t miss the most unique gems of the region – Alcazar of Segovia , Salamanca , Valladolid at night , Colegiata San Luis , Alba de Tormes .

Moreover, exploring the Cathedral of Burgos , one of the most stunning cathedrals in Spain , is another virtual must-see.

Extremadura

best things to see and do in extremadura

Extremadura is one of the lesser-known regions in Spain. Nevertheless, you might already know that my recent Extremadura road trip was full of experiences that made it to the list of 2022 Spanish favorites . So, this autonomous community might end up surprising you as well.

Extremadura Virtual is a great web to explore most of the unique landmarks in the region, including Caceres , Dolmen de Lacara , and the stunning natural landscapes of Valle del Jerte (known for some of the most beautiful flower blossoms in Spain ).

spanish pyrenees road trip itinerary

Aragon is one of my favorite areas to find hidden gems for my Undiscovered Spain blog series. The region includes the provinces of Huesca , Teruel , and Zaragoza: but the part that I can never get enough of is the Spanish Pyrenees of Aragon .

To my surprise, I´ve recently discovered a great website with must-see sights in the region of Aragon – aragonvirtual.e s, including cathedrals , castles , and expositions .

Nature lovers can´t miss Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park, Routes of Zaragoza , Jaraba , and Minas de Ojos Negros .

Spain Virtual Tours Cantabria

While Cantabria is a must-stop on every Northern Spain Itinerary and is full of adventurous family activities , as well as stunning beaches , a separate trip to this region is still in the plans for my family.

The main city of the Cantabria region, Santander, can be checked online via Santander virtual tour . A few local landmarks also offer virtual experiences – Palacio de la Magdalena , Botin Centre , Museo de Prehistoria , and Museo Etnográfico de Cantabria .

Moreover, via the web centros.culturadecantabria.com you can enjoy some unique Spain virtual tours: Palacio de Sobrellano y Capilla Panteón , Juilóbriga y Museo Domus , Centro de Interpretación del Románico , Torre del Infantado .

The famous Way of Saint James (or Camino de Santiago in Spanish) also goes through Cantabria. The local government of Cantabria offers virtual insights into some of its most interesting places – Camino de Santiago por el Norte .

Spain’s virtual tours make the impossible possible in the case of the famous Altamira Caves. You might know that since 2001 visitors can enjoy the replica of the cave, and only a small number of people is allowed inside the original caves every year (there´s a 3-year waiting list to visit). But you might consider exploring the  original cave on a virtual tour .

santiago de compostela

One of the most beautiful Spanish religious landmarks , Santiago de Compostela Cathedral, offers a virtual tour via  turismo.gal (where you can also find other top landmarks of Galicia).

Moreover, you can also check out the museum of Castro de Viladonga , an exposition Galicia: A story in the world , Caaveiro monastery , and MUPEGA .

The Canary Islands

Teide Tenerife Canary Islands

While I find the Canary Islands extremely inspiring visually and love their mysterious legend of the 9th secret island , so far I have only managed to visit Tenerife , Lanzarote , and Fuerteventura. So, it was great to explore a bit of La Palma and La Gomera at least online.

What about you? Do you check up on new places virtually, before setting off for a new adventure?

Virtual Field Trips to Spain For Kids

Virtual Field Trips to Spain for Kids

Getting to know different cultures can be the trickiest part of language learning. It’s expensive to travel, difficult to do so with kids, and (as I write this in May 2020) currently prohibited. Given the extent that kids are doing things online these days (virtually everything), it’s not a bad way to learn about Spanish speaking countries, too. To narrow down the overwhelming amounts of information available online, I’ve focused solely on one country -here are a few virtual field trips to Spain for kids.

Virtual Field Trips to Spain For Kids

Before getting started, have your kids learn some basic facts and geography by watching the following short, kid-friendly introductory videos to Spain.

Without further ado, the following virtual field trips to Spain for kids are geared towards Spanish language learners in elementary school -though you’ll find a few that are entertaining for all ages.

Museo del Prado

El Prado is Spain’s national art museum. They offer virtual visits on their website and Instagram account. But the fun part are their educational, art-centric online activities that are made just for kids.

Juegos Sonoros en Casa

Updated every Thursday in May, Juegos Sonoros en Casa pairs a work of art with a related activity to complete at home.

Juego Para Familias

In this massive scavenger hunt , kids download illustrated maps of the museum and are challenged to find a number of objects. Each room of the museum has its own map, list of objects to find, and answer key.

Both programs are great for all ages, but the instructions are in Spanish only.

Casa Museo del Ratón Pérez

Ratoncito Pérez is the Hispanic version of the tooth fairy and Casa Museo del Ratón Pérez is a small museum dedicated to the tiny mouse. It’s primarily based on a story written by Luis Coloma, which stated that Ratoncito Perez lived in that very same building in Madrid.

Coloma wrote the story for King Alfonso XIII, who was eight years old at the time and about to lose a tooth. It follows King Buby (the nickname for the king) as he catches Ratoncito Pérez while trying to exchange his tooth for a gift. King Buby then proceeds to accompany Ratón Pérez for the rest of the night.

While the museum’s website is pretty simple, you can take a quick tour of the museum by watching the YouTube video below.

Then watch an animated version of Coloma’s story.

Museo Casa Natal de Cervantes

Kids can take a virtual tour of Miguel de Cervantes’ birthplace. Cervantes is the author of Don Quixote -arguably the most famous Spanish book of all time.

The house is located in Alcalá de Henares (about 20 miles from Madrid) and decorated to look as it did in Cervantes’ time.

I’ve included it on this list, not because it’s geared towards kids. It’s not. But being able to snoop in a house that’s not yours, that’s decorated for its time period, and that distantly involves an oddball character like Don Quixote -is pretty interesting regardless of age.

The website and virtual tour are available in both English and Spanish.

Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya

Barcelona’s premier art museum offers a great selection of art-themed games , memory , coloring pages , puzzles , and virtual tours . The website and activities are available in both English and Spanish.

For the youngest soccer fans, a virtual trip to Spain wouldn’t be complete without mentioning it’s two most prominent teams, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid . And, because I’m not about to get in the middle of which team is better, I’m going to talk about both.

Even the youngest soccer fan can get lost on either website browsing player stats, game clips, and breaking news. Kids can check out Real Madrid’s Kid Zone and a 3D model of Santiago Bernabeú stadium seen from above.

Meanwhile, Barça fans can enjoy some kid-friendly activities and games . As part of their #culersathome movement, kids can design a t-shirt , make Barça themed pizza , play who’s who , have ‘ electricity races’ , and more from the comfort of their homes. FYI, Barça fans are called culers .

Both teams offer their websites and activities in English and Spanish.

Casa Batlló

Casa Batlló is a house in Barcelona designed by famous architect, Antoni Gaudí.

Their website offers an all-access virtual tour , a 360 degree video experience , and a selection of Gaudí inspired arts and crafts for kids to complete at home -with instructions available in English.

360 Degree Tours

360 degree tours are a great way for kids to (virtually) manipulate their surroundings, explore at their own pace, and be the boss of their own adventure.

Google Arts & Culture

Google Arts & Culture has an overwhelming number of virtual tours for most any country, including Spain. In addition to 360 degree tours, it also has online exhibits, museum tours, cooking videos, and much, much more.

Another great option for 360 degree city tours is Airpano . They offer only a few Spanish cities, so the choices are less overwhelming. But you can get great aerial views of major cities like Madrid and Barcelona.

Suggested Places to Visit

If the mere quantity of places to see on Airpano and Google Arts & Culture seems like too much, here is a smaller list of my personal favorites.

  • Alhambra : A large palace and fortress, located in Granada, which is in the South of Spain. You can take a virtual tour here or here .
  • Anything by Gaudí : I mentioned Casa Batlló earlier, but you’ll also want to check out Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia and Park Güell for more colorful, intricate, and interesting designs.
  • Alcázar de Segovia : It’s a castle ! And, yes, there are castles all over Spain, but this is one of my favorites. Kids can take the virtual tour and imagine what it might have been like to live there.
  • Sevilla’s Plaza de España : Nearly every major city in Spain has a Plaza de España, but none of them live up to Sevilla’s. Plus, several movies have been filmed here, including Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones .
  • Valencia’s City of Arts and Sciences : Because it literally looks like the future. It has also been a shooting location for Tomorrowland , Doctor Who , and Westworld .

Virtual Field Trips to Spain: At Home Activities

Every country on this planet has a rich culture with plenty of interesting sights, museums, and landmarks. Spain is no exception. Thankfully, the internet is here for the win with plenty of virtual field trips to Spain for kids.

If you would like to incorporate additional activities into your kids’ or students’ Spanish learning adventures, you (or your kids) can create a scavenger hunt, checklist, or bingo game card of places in Spain you’d like to visit. The beauty of virtual field trips are that you (or your child) get to be the boss!

¡Buen viaje!

State Museums launch high-resolution virtual tours

News - 2024.5.10

The project, financed with almost half a million euros from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, provides online access to more than 200 high-resolution pieces from the 16 museums managed by the Ministry of Culture.

10/05/2024. State Museums launch high-resolution virtual tours. Digitization work for the virtual visit to the National Museum of Roman Art,...

The Ministry of Culture is extending online access to and dissemination of the sixteen state museums it manages directly in different parts of Spain. From now on, they will be offering new high-resolution virtual tours , a project within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. A total of €478,880 of European funds have been invested in this project.

The new virtual tours, developed with Second Canvas technology, enable free visits to the museum collections and allow visitors to explore the rooms with super-zoom, as well as access new content in different formats such as explanatory videos on the meaning and historical context of the pieces, audio documents or scientific or informative publications. In addition, 200 pieces have been selected which can be explored in detail thanks to high-resolution images, and which are accompanied by short stories created by the curators to reveal their secrets.

The National Museum of Underwater Archaeology ARQVA, in Cartagena (Murcia); the National Archaeological Museum, the Costume Museum. Centre for Research into Ethnological Heritage, Museo Sorolla, Museo Cerralbo, The National Museum of Decorative Arts, National Museum of Romanticism, Museum of the Americas and the National Museum of Anthropology, in Madrid; National Museum of Roman Art, in Mérida (Badajoz); National Museum and Research Centre of Altamira, in Santillana del Mar (Cantabria); Museo del Greco and The Sephardic Museum, in Toledo; 'González Martí' National Museum of Ceramics and Decorative Arts, in Valencia; National Museum of Sculpture and Cervantes House-Museum, in Valladolid; are the 16 state museums directly managed by the Ministry of Culture that will now have this new way of being visited.

Virtual tours and information in different formats

In all 16 museums, 1,623 panoramic views of the rooms and spaces have been digitised. For example, the National Archaeological Museum displays more than 400 panoramas, and the National Museum of Roman Art has more than 200. Each super-high-resolution image of a panorama is, in turn, obtained by subsequently taking and combining dozens of high-resolution photographs of each room. In total, more than 46,000 high-resolution photographs of the rooms have been taken.

The virtual tours are completed with 310 points of interest that allow access to information in different formats such as videos or audios related to the pieces and spaces of the museum. Each virtual tour also includes a 'Welcome Tour', a spoken and subtitled introduction that takes the virtual visitor through the rooms, putting them in context before the free visit.

Unnoticed details and short stories

The super high-resolution images allow visitors to get up close to the pieces in a way that is not possible in an on-site visit and with the naked eye. The digitisation was carried out with MadpixelROB, a robotised and computerised capture system with shooting assistance systems, which made it possible to capture images with Ultra HD resolution (245 megapixel) and gigapixel resolution (1,000 megapixel) of the pieces in the rooms where they are exhibited, without the need to take them down or move them.

The flexibility of this system has also made it possible to adapt to the different formats of the pieces and to digitise paintings, mosaics, textiles, furniture, carvings, plasterwork and archaeological remains of different sizes, from 30 centimetres to pieces of several metres, such as large paintings, murals, façades or large ceilings.

For example, in the Sephardic Museum in Toledo, the smallest piece digitised was a Bar Kojba coin, barely 20 millimetres in diameter, while the largest was the East Wall of the Synagogue of El Tránsito, measuring 9.5 x 16 metres.

In addition, some pieces have also been photographed with infrared gigapixel technology that allows details such as repainting or small irregularities in the canvas to be appreciated, as in the case of 'El Salvador' in the Museo del Greco, in Toledo; 'Satire of Romantic Suicide' by Leonardo Alenza in the Museum of Romanticism, in Madrid; and the 'Self-portrait' by Joaquín Sorolla on display in the Museo Sorolla, in Madrid.

T he clay swing heads to Rome when the Italian Open gets underway on Friday, May 10. The last big tournament before the French Open, players from both the ATP and WTA Tours will be out to make a statement ahead of the second slam of the year. Read on and we'll show you how to watch the 2024 Italian Open tournament from anywhere with a VPN .

Running since 1930, the Italian Open is a prestigious event that regularly attracts the best players in the world and this year is no exception. Having skipped the Madrid Open , Novak Djokovic has chosen to play in Rome where he will be joined by long-time rival Rafa Nadal. The Spaniard reached the last 16 in Spain and showed signs of returning to his best in what is expected to be his final year on tour.

They will be joined by clay-court specialist Casper Ruud, world number five Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas who recently won the Monte Carlo Masters . However, there could be some major names missing from the draw as Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner both have injury concerns, while defending champion Daniil Medvedev was forced to retire from his quarter-final clash in Madrid.

In the women’s draw, Elena Rybakina will be out to defend her title but will face plenty of competition as world number one Iga Swiatek is set to play in Rome and has been in superb form of late. Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka will be another huge threat, as will American sensation Coco Gauff.

Qualifying for the Italian Open starts on Monday, May 6 ahead of the main draw on Wednesday, May 8. As with the Madrid Open, the 32 seeds get a first-round bye so they enter the tournament in the second round.

Check out all of the TV and streaming details below to find out how to watch the 2024 Italian Open from anywhere.

3. Sit back and enjoy the action. Head to beIN sports or another service and watch the Italian Open.

The best Italian Open streams around the world

Below are the Italian Open live stream details for people in the U.S., U.K. and Australia.

How to watch the 2024 Italian Open online in the U.S.

Tennis fans in the U.S. will need the  Tennis Channel  to watch the 2024 Italian Open tournament.

The Tennis Channel is available through most cable packages as well as some of the  best cable TV alternatives , including  Sling TV ,  Fubo , and DirecTV Stream. Of these options, we recommend Sling and Fubo.

Sling TV  offers two packages, both of which start at $40 a month. The Sling Blue plan comes with 30-plus channels, including NBC, NBCSN and USA. The Sling Orange plan ESPN as its main advantage for sports. Either way, you'll need the $11 Sports Extra add-on to get the Tennis Channel for the Italian Open.

If you love sports, you might want to check out  Fubo .  It's got a 7-day free trial so you don't need to pay up front and has dozens of sports channels, including NBCSN and USA. Prices start at $74.99, after the trial. You'll need a sports add-on or the Ultimate Plan ($94.99) for the Tennis Channel and coverage of the Italian Open.

How to watch 2024 Italian Open live streams in the U.K.

Sky Sports  will be showing all the action from the Italian Open in the UK, so if you already have a Sky subscription that doesn't include Sports, you'll need to pay £18/month to add those channels. The game will be shown on Sky Sports Tennis.

Whichever package you go for, you'll also gain access to coverage in 4K and HDR, so long as you also have an HDR-ready Sky Q box and HLG-compatible TV.

Sky Glass  is another option. This gives you Sky TV within a 4K TV that has a built-in Dolby Atmos soundbar, and without the need for a dish. Prices start at £13/month for the TV, plus a sky sub on top of that.

If you don't want to shell out for a full Sky subscription, you could also consider its  Now Sports  streaming service. This gives you 24-hour access for £11.99 or month-long access for £34.99.

All sounds great, right? But if you're not in the UK, you can still follow the 2024 Italian Open tournament live stream by using one of the best VPN services, such as  NordVPN .

Watch Italian Open live streams in Australia

Tennis fans in Australia can watch every match of the Italian Open on beIN Sports.

To access beIN sports you will have to pay $15.99 a month or $149.99 a year. Both options include a 7-day free trial. You can also use the beIN Sports Connect app to stream the ItalianOpen 2024.

Aviation study abroad program embarks to France and Spain

Two women smile at the camera while standing in front of a yellow antique-looking airplane.

Over spring break, 40 students and three resident directors from The Ohio State University headed to France and Spain as a part of the semester-long Engineering 5797.25 International Perspectives on Aviation course . The 10-day trip immersed students from many aviation-related majors in a variety of experiences, including aviation site visits, plus cultural and social activities.

“Studying abroad helps to prepare students to enter a truly global industry with the context that they need to perform on day number one,” said Lecturer Matt Dreher , who served as a resident director.

The goal of the international travel component was to have students engage with aviation in a global context, which prepares them to operate in international settings upon graduation.

According to Dreher, France was selected as one of the destinations due to its long-term recognition for being an innovator in the aviation and aerospace sectors, with extensive learning opportunities at museums, assembly lines, government offices and more.

Although Spain is not as largely accredited as France in the aviation world, Dreher noted that there is still a rich history of aviation there.

“I was particularly excited about our stops in Barcelona and Madrid to showcase just how important aviation is everywhere, even the areas that we might not typically connect it to instantly,” he said.

A group of people stand at a distance with their backs to the camera while they look at a large cement monument.

One of the main attractions of the trip was The LaFayette Escadrille Memorial in France, a monument to American aviators who volunteered on the side of the French before the United States was officially involved in World War I. They helped train the United States Army Air Corp pilots who came after them, including Eddie Rickenbacker, a Columbus, Ohio native.

“The history of aviation, especially in France, is so intertwined with American aviation, evident at The Lafayette Escadrille Memorial, but is also unique and culturally rich,” said aviation student Erin Koch .

The group also visited the Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace (National Air and Space Museum of France) in Paris, hiked the mountains in Andorra la Vella and visited the Museum of Aeronautics in Madrid, among other activities.

Lecturer Adam Beckman , also a resident director, said he was impressed witnessing the growth of the students during the trip, most of whom did not know each other in advance. “It was very rewarding to watch them grow not in a strict academic setting but in a more social form,” he commented.

For some students like Koch, it was their first time out of the country. “It was educational and enriching,” Koch said. “[I]t is a program I would participate in again.”

“It really grows you as a person to cross the ocean, be somewhere in which you don't speak the language, and realize that you can figure it out and that you’ll be OK,” said Academic Advisor and Lecturer Emily Castellucci .

A group of about 40 people pose together in front of a building with the words "Musee de l'air".
