The fort is located very close to Vagator beach. There's a little bit of climb involved in getting here but the view from the fort is well worth the climb! The very famous and wonderful hotel W Goa is perfectly located between the Chapora fort and Vagator beach.

2. Aguada Fort

Aguada fort is one of the most impressive Portuguese forts still standing intact in Goa. You can visit this fort on all days of the week from the morning at 9.30 am till 5.30 pm in the evening. This majestic fort also holds a lighthouse and you can see a panoramic view of the Mandovi river, that meets the Arabian sea, from the fort. 3. Sinquerim Fort

Sinquerim Fort is a fun little place located in Sinquerim, not far from the Aguada Fort. The ruins of the Sinquerim Fort look over the Arabic ocean. During the high tide, waves from the ocean wash up against the fort walls creating water showers. It's a lot of fun just standing there and waiting for the waves to hit you. The Sinquerim beach is also a nice spot to visit for water sports. There are two hotels perfectly situated with a view of the fort and beach - these are Taj Fort Aguada Resort & Spa and Taj Holiday Village Resort & Spa .

4. Reis Magos Fort

Reis Magos is one of the most beautiful places to visit in North Goa. As soon as you enter the fort, you'll be mesmerised with the location, unique architecture and the layout of the fort. In fact, the fort even houses a museum where you'll learn a lot more about its history. Facing Panjim city , overlooking both the Mandovi river as well as the Arabian ocean, the location of the Reis Magos fort is to die for! Parra has been made famous by the recent Bollywood movie 'Dear Zindagi'. In fact, the road became so famous after the movie came out that the road has even been named as the ' Dear Zindagi road ' on google maps. You can type either that or 'Parra chapel' into maps to reach here. This unique spot is one of the best places to explore in North Goa where there are coconut trees and lush greenery on either side. Such is the beauty of the Parra road that it is featured on every list of the most instagrammable places in Goa .

Keep in mind though, that this is a road used by locals as well as taxi cabs passing through so don't hold up traffic for photo shoots and don't leave litter on the road.

6. Panjim City

Panjim or Panaji is the capital city of Goa . It's identified by the beautiful river view on one side of the main road and colorful buildings on the other side of the road. Fontainhas, the old Latin quarter of Goa has gained much popularity over the past couple of years. For one thing, the many colorful houses and graphic staircases are quite appealing photo-worthy spots. You can see quite a few youngsters, couples and photographers shooting here all day. Secondly, the rich history of Fontainhas has inspired many Fontainhas heritage walk tours. The Siolim riverside chapel is one of the most beautiful places I've visited in North Goa and so it was hard not to include it in my North Goa guide. Combine a visit to this chapel if you visit the popular Thalassa restaurant which is now located in Siolim itself. The drive here takes you through small villages, unbelievable riverside views and lots of coconut trees.

16. Sweet Water Lake

Coming to one of my favorite places to visit in North Goa - which is the Sweet Water Lake in Arambol. No visit to North Goa is complete if you haven't seen this epic lake which is one of the offbeat places to see in North Goa. To reach here, you need to hike from the North end of the Arambol beach inside the tunnel that's full of shops until you reach a secluded beach . The lake lies opposite to that smaller beach. Chapora Fort

Built in 1617 by a Muslim ruler Adil Shah, Chapora Fort was the watch post of the border for the portuguese and many rulers. Today, the fort lies in ruins; however, it is an incredible vantage point and offers a gorgeous view of Vagator in the south, Chapora River and Pernem in the north along with the Arabian Sea in the west. Though the fort is in ruins today, one can still see the two tunnels which served as emergency escapes for the Portuguese till the seashore and the bank of Chapora River. The Portuguese are believed to have ruled over Chapora Fort for more than 150 years. Situated on the suburbs of Panaji, Dona Paula is one of the popular tourist attractions in Goa. It is recognized as the home of the National Institute of Oceanography. Mangueshi Temple

Reckoned to be one of the largest temples in Goa, Mangueshi shrine is situated in Mangueshi Village in Priol. The main deity in the temple is that of God Manguesh, who is believed to be the incarnation of Lord Shiva. Unarguably, one of the best places to visit in North Goa, Mangueshi Temple is 450-year-old that stands out for its simple and yet exquisitely elegant structure. Built in 1890, the temple consists of several domes and balustrades. There even seats a prominent Nandi Bull and a beautiful seven-story octagonal deepstambh (lamp tower), stands inside the temple complex. The temple also has a magnificent water tank, which is believed to be the oldest part of the temple. There is a spacious assembly hall which can accommodate 500 people at a time. Chandeliers of the nineteenth century adorn the temple. The annual festivals include Rama Navami, Akshaya Tritiya, Anant Vritotsava, Navaratri, Dussehra, Diwali, Magha Purnima Festival (Jatrotsav) and Mahashivratri. Magha Purnima Festival begins on Magha Shukla Saptami and ends on Magha Poornima are celebrated in the temple with much pomp and show.

The Church of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception

One of the top visiting places, built in 1541, this is reckoned to be the first church in Goa. Seeing a complete renovation in 1619, The Church of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception is a riot of heavy ornamentation. Believed to be a fine example of relatively simple architecture, the church still boasts of two flanking altars that on the left dedicated to Jesus Crucified and the right one dedicated to Our Lady of Rosary. A great deal of carvings can be seen on each side of the marble statues of St. Peter and St. Paul. The main altar is that of St. Francis Xavier; his glass encased statue is positioned centrally on the reredos. Reis Magos Fort

Another interesting point of attraction in North Goa, Reis Magos Fort is named after Reis Magos, a village on the bank of River Mandovi in Badrez. Around eight-kilometre-drive from Panjim, the capital town of Goa through narrow roads lined by coconut trees will take you to the fort. From the village you have to trek a little to reach Reis Magos Fort, which has been standing as an important part of Goan history for years. Built in 1493 as a military outpost by the Adil Shahi Sultanate, the building originally came to existence as a fort in 1551 by the Portuguese. It was once a prison where prisoners of wars used to be kept. You will also find holes on the floors in a room upstairs from where the entrance can be seen. Basilica of Bom Jesus

A renowned Catholic church, which is the oldest one in Goa, Basilica of Bom Jesus is famous for its astonishing baroque architecture. A site of World Heritage declared by UNESCO, Basilica of Bom Jesus was built in 1594 and houses the remains of St. Francis Xavier and St. Ignatius Loyola, the founders of the Society of Jesus. Goa has its own airdome which is well connected by domestic flights with major cities in India. Located around 26 kilometres from Panaji, the Dabolim Airport also receives international flights during the peak season. Moreover, you can also reach North Goa by availing a train to Madgaon Railway Station from where Panaji is around 41 kilometres.

You can also reach here by road taking a public or private bus from cities like Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Hampi. Lastly, one can also opt to reach North Goa by sea. Several cruise rides are available between Mumbai and Goa that function between October to May. However, for cruise rides, you have to book the ticket way in advance.

How to Spend One Day In North Goa: 4 Solid Itineraries

Running short on time and want to spend just one day in North Goa? Don’t worry, it is possible to plan one day North Goa. You can travel on your own or go with an organized tour. In this post you will learn all about the best places to visit in North Goa in one day along with a few itineraries to suit your travel type.

On most of my trips to Goa, when I stay in South Goa, I plan a quick one day trip to North Goa. So given that I have done this a few times, I can help you plan your one day in North Goa in a way you like. Whether you’re on a quick weekend trip, have a short layover, travelling on a short work trip or visiting Goa for a day from nearby regions like Konkan or Karnataka – if you have just one day for North Goa – you don’t have to worry. The best way to spend just 1 day in North Goa is by visiting the key monuments in Old Goa, followed by the famous forts of Goa and then finishing off with time on a beach in North Goa.

One day in North Goa: Frequently Asked Questions

Is 1 day in North Goa enough?

One day in North Goa is enough for visiting key tourist attractions, forts and the main beaches. But the trip would feel a bit rushed. If you want a more slow-paced trip to North Goa, plan to spend at least 2 days in North Goa.

How to spend one day in North Goa?

To get the most out of one day in North Goa, visit the primary tourist attractions mostly located in Old Goa, Panjim in the morning and in the afternoon visit Fort Aguada or Fort Chapora and spend the evening on a beach of your choice. You can plan a one-day visit to North Goa either through a tour operator or on your own.

Is it possible to visit North Goa on a day trip from South Goa?

Many tour operators in South Goa offer day trips to North Goa which include a visit to the Old Goan churches and forts, a few famous North Goan beaches and at times a 45 minute cruise in the Mandovi river. The entire tour takes up at least 8 hours and proves to be a bit hectic.

A better way of spending a day in North Goa is by visiting fewer tourist attractions and spending more time at the beach absorbing the vibe of the place which is so different from South Goa.

How to spend one day in North Goa

Option 1: organized tour.

Heading out on an organized tour is the most common way of spending one day in North Goa. An organized tour is a fair choice if you’re staying in South Goa and don’t want to bother creating an itinerary that works i.e. one taking into consideration the distance between places, opening and closing hours etc.

The best way to book an organized tour is by getting in touch with a nearby vendor. Most local operators provide a car and a driver cum guide. For larger groups, they may even provide a slight concession and book a small bus for you.

A typical North Goa tour itinerary includes the following

• Fort Aguada
• Chapora Fort
• Vagator Beach
• A few less famous temples and churches and
• a tourist attraction like Snow Park

The other alternative is to book an organized tour online. The benefit of doing this is that you pay per person and it proves to be a bit cheaper for solo/couple travellers.

Choice 1 – Organized tour to North Goa (History, architrecture and beaches – Famous and less famous tourist spots)

• This trip includes a visit to the Immaculate Conception Church, St. Sebastian Church, the colourful Fountainhas quarter followed by a visit to the stunning Aguada fort and a beach in North Goa.
• But over and above these standard attractions, the tour also lets you visit a few offbeat places like the Kala Academy, the Houses of Goa museum and the local’s favourite- Miramar Beach.

It is a great choice for those that want to dive deeper into the history of Goa and get a feel of how Goa stands today.

Choice 2 – Organized tour to North Goa (Beaches & Forts only)

If you want to skip Old Goa altogether, try out this trip.

• It takes you through all the beaches between Candolim and Vagator.
• It also lets you spend enough time at Fort Aguada and Fort Chapora.

Basically, you cover the touristy part of North Goa in just one day!

Option 2: Self-organized North Goa tour

Now as you can see, there are restrictions in terms of the places you can see when you’re on an organized tour. I see no point in visiting all the beaches of North Goa when you just have one day. Likewise, visiting multiple museums and art centers when you’re short on time, is also not judicious.

So here’s a sample 1 day itinerary of North Goa.

You can use it to plan your own trip. To execute this itinerary, book a car or a two-wheeler for an entire day from a vendor close to your hotel.

Old Goa Churches (10 am to 12 noon)

Visit the churches in Old Goa. The primary ones to visit are Basilica of Bom Jesus, Se Cathedral and St. Francis Assisi church.

• I recommend you to visit the museum at St. Francis Assisi church if you’re short on time.
• Visit these places first thing in the morning to avoid crowds and queues.
• Observe the different styles of Portuguese architecture. The use of laterite stone at Basilica of Bom Jesus sets it apart from many other Portuguese churches across the world.

Panjim Church/Immaculate Conception Church (12 noon to 12:30 pm)

From here make a quick stop at the Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church. It is one of the most architecturally beauiful churches in all of Goa. It is also a major filming location and you’d recognize it instantly if you’ve watched movies like Simmba, Josh, Kabhi Ha Kabhi Na, Aashiqui 2 etc.

Don’t spend too much time here. Click a picture from the divider across the street for a full view of the church.

Fountainhas (12:30 pm to 1:30 pm)

Walk through the lanes of Fountainhas

• Appreciate the use of colour
• Observe how the houses are still in use by locals
• Click pictures outside a building of your choice
• Check out St. Sebastian Church from outside

Have lunch at Ritz Classic (1:30 pm – 2:30 pm)

• The seafood thali is globally renowned. But they serve excellent vegetarian food too.

Visit Fort Aguada (2:30 pm to 4:00)

• Walk around the entire place
• Observe their water storage facilities
• Go and check out the lighthouse
• Click pictures of the surrounding coastal area from the top

Hang out at Baga Beach/Anjuna Beach (4:00 pm to 5:00 pm)

Spend time at a beach of your choice. Baga is more crowded. Anjuna is rocky.

• Try out watersports.
• Chill at a beachshack
• Or shop at streetside markets

Basically, take in the vibe of touristy Goa – a rare blend of buzzing yet laid-back.

Watch the sunset at Chapora Fort (5:00-sunset)

Head towards Chapora fort around 5. Besides its enormous historic significance, the fort is now renowned as the ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ fort. But it is also one of the best spots in North Goa to watch the sunset from. It also overlooks the gorgeous Vagator beach.

• Between November and February, the sun sets around 6:30 pm. So try to reach Chapora by 5:30 pm.
• Climb to the top and grab a spot on the fort wall by 6 pm to ensure you get the best sunset view.

Quick tips for your self-organized tour

• Booking a vehicle with a driver is recommended if you don’t want to worry about finding parking for your car. Finding a parking for your car is difficult in Old Goa and Fountainhas. But you can easily find parking if you’re travelling on a two-wheeler.
• If you’re staying in South Goa and plan to follow the above itinerary, leave early morning. (7:30 am from Palolem and 8:30 am from Benaulim). You will go back by 8:30-9:00 pm. So book your vehicle accordingly.

Option 3: Overnight stay in North Goa (recommended for party-lovers and couples)

If you can extend your stay in North Goa by a few hours to be able to spend one night, you’ll be able to do lots more than you can if you just spend your daytime in North Goa.

But before that make sure that you

• Visit North Goa during peak season . Many beach shacks and party places are shut in monsoons and summers and spending a night in North Goa would not really help you much if you visit Goa during offseason.
• Book your stay in Anjuna if you have just one night in Goa . ( See best-rated accommodation in Anjuna here )

Anjuna is quieter than Baga but full of incredible accommodation choices catering to all budgets.

The cafés, bars, and beach clubs are also very charming in terms of their ambiance, vibe, and decor.

Now that we know the prerequisites – here’s what you can do post sunset or instead of a sunset at Chapora

• Chill at a cafe in Anjuna. I love Purple Martini , Moon Star . Both offer exceptional sunset views.
• Head out on a sunset cruise over Mandovi river . See options here
• Plan a candle light dinner on a beach shack. (Vagator beach is ideal as it’s far less crowded) or a special one at Olive Bar & Kitchen
• Go partying at Curlies, Club Cubana, Titos, Hammerz, Hilltop or any other famous Goan nightclub
• Visit the Friday Night market at Vagator (if you’re in North Goa on Friday). There’s lots to shop and eat. The music played is also very vibey. It goes on until the wee hours of the night.

Option 4: 1 day in North Goa (nature-lovers/offbeat)

If you’re a nature lover and want to skip the touristy side of North Goa, here’s how you can put your day in North Goa to use.

Choose from one of the options below

• Go white water rafting in Mhaidei river inside the Mhaidei wildlife sanctuary (Plan around 5 hrs)
• Go an island trip to Divar island, Chorao Island or Sao Jacinto island. Enjoy a boat ride, go cycling or go on a bird trail at Dr. Salim Ali Sanctuary. See e-bike island tour details here.
• Hike in North Goa . Go up the Arambol Mountain for a difficult session or climb to the Bear’s Claw near Lower fort Aguada for a quick hike.

Where to stay in North Goa?

• If you have just one day in North Goa and you plan to stick to the touristy side, stay in Anjuna . There are lots of things to do in Anjuna and Vagator itself to keep you busy for a day.
• If you want to explore the offbeat places, stay in Candolim or Arambol (spl. for hiking and rafting).

Nearly every tourist who visits the area spends a day at Palolem Beach , a crescent-shaped stretch of white sand that overlooks the Arabian Sea in south Goa. South India has been known for its abundance of spices, like black pepper, cardamom, and cloves, for centuries. In fact, these natural flavorings were a major appeal for Portuguese traders who came to Goa hundreds of years ago.

Tourists can see what the local spice scene is all about by touring Tanshikar's Working Spice Farm & Ecological Rest House . This agritourism attraction grows seven different spices: pepper, vanilla, nutmeg, turmeric, cardamom, and chili, using totally organic farming methods.

Tours of the farm, often led by its owner, will give you an in-depth understanding of these flavor-charged crops and a chance to see some of the other products, like betelnut, coffee beans, pineapple, and banana, grown on the premises. Tanshikar's also keeps bees and produces its own all-natural honey.

Spice farm tours aren't the only fun thing to do at Tanshikar's. Guests can also take a vegetarian cooking class , visit a bubbly lake , trek to Mainapi Waterfall, and train to become a yoga teacher. It's an attraction that has something for everyone.

Food is a major attraction in Goa. This part of India has a distinctive cuisine that blends Portuguese and Goan flavors, setting it apart from all the other food around India. Expect fiery flavors, fresh-caught seafood, and an abundance of coconut in the dishes.

You can't leave Goa without trying its signature dish, vindaloo, a super-hot meat curry made with palm vinegar and dried red chili peppers. Hospedaria Venite in the capital of Goa, Panaji , wows tourists with its mouthwatering vindaloo. Dominick, a Benaulim Beach mainstay, is another favorite spot for vindaloo – plus it offers front-row seats for world-class sunsets.

Another Goan specialty is xacuti, a rich curry with poppy seeds, chili, and coconut. Try it at Souza Lobo , a beachfront restaurant in Calangute , or Fat Fish , a well-trafficked spot in Baga.

Tourists hankering for some fresh seafood are spoiled for choice around Goa. Zeebop , on Utorda Beach , offers delightful fish curry, prawn stew, and mackerel doused with spicy red sauce.

You also can't go wrong with dinner at Copperleaf. The upscale restaurant in Porvorim has a fish thali that you'll be dreaming about long after you've finished.

While many tourists visit Goa for the beaches, countless others consider the trip to be a pilgrimage to important religious sites, like the Basilica de Bom Jesus.

This Old Goa attraction dates back to the late 16th century and contains the remains of the St. Francis Xavier . The "Apostle of the Indies" co-founded the Society of Jesus religious order with friend St. Ignatius Loyola and spearheaded an extensive mission in India. The basilica has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.

The modest yet imposing structure is a mix of Doric, Corinthian, and Baroque style with intricate carvings. Interestingly, the building was stripped of its lime plaster in the mid-20th century, making it the only church in Goa without plaster. The Basilica de Bom Jesus has since become worn by monsoons.

You can tour the church on your own, or hire one of the independent guides near the entrance for a small fee. Inside, you can see huge ornamental screens, along with the body of the resident saint in a casket that was once covered in precious stones. It's a compelling place that will transport you back in time.

Every year, the Feast of St. Francis Xavier draws big crowds to this church in late November and early December. It kicks off with a nine-day novena and open-air masses before concluding with the major holiday on Dec. 3.

Aquatic adventures go beyond the beach in Goa. The state is also home to Dudhsagar Falls, a spectacular four-tiered waterfall that towers some 310 meters above the earth. It's one of India's tallest waterfalls and a perpetually popular attraction for day trips around Goa and Karnataka .

To reach the falls, you'll need to make your way to the village of Colem by taxi or train. Depending on which train route you take, you may get a glimpse of Dudhsagar Falls along the way. Then, you'll hop aboard a shared jeep through the jungle, passing Devil's Canyon along the way. Around 45 minutes later, you'll scurry over some boulders to finally reach the falls.

The best time to visit Dudhsagar Falls is right after the monsoon , when the water is gushing. Tourists who wish to take a dip can rent a life jacket from vendors at the attraction.

Hot tip: Only 300 jeeps are allowed to enter Dudhsagar Falls every day, although tour operators have been requesting to increase the capacity during high season. Make reservations in advance, or prepare to wait in long lines if you wish to visit.

Goa is home to a ton of markets, but none offer the liveliness or selection of products found at Anjuna Market. For roughly 50 years, hundreds of vendors have been setting up shop on Anjuna Beach every Wednesday to tempt free-spirited travelers with hippy-inspired trinkets and souvenirs.

Ornate textiles, woven bikinis, sculptures of deities, dreamcatchers, hammocks, magnets, t-shirts with sassy slogans, beaded jewelry, toys – you name it, you can probably buy it here.

But even if you don't want to shop, you should still make a point to visit Anjuna Market for the sightseeing. The flea market is a swirling array of colorful wares, salespeople driving hard bargains, big bags of fresh spices, and street food galore. The vibe alone is one of the reasons why Anjuna Market is one of the top places to visit in Goa.

Make your way to the laid-back city of Panaji to visit another one of Goa's historic churches: The Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception.

The pristine white church, which dates back to the early 17th century, stands atop a zig-zagging staircase that resembles the tiers of a wedding cake. Its perfectly symmetrical Portuguese Baroque architecture is a sight to behold. At night, twinkle lights make the church look like something out of a fairy tale.

While not ornate, the church's interior boasts bright, colorful decorations. Tourists can see the elegant main altar (dedicated to Mary, mother of Jesus) and gilded pillars with elaborate carvings. Vines of blue and white blossoms often adorn parts of the vaulted ceiling around various holidays.

Dec. 8 marks the Festival of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception , a major holiday at this church. Swing by to see it decked out in tons of colorful lights.

See what houses in Goa looked like during the 17th century at Braganza House, a historical mansion that flanks the village square in Chandor. It's divided into an east and west wing, both of which are available for tourists to poke around at their leisure.

The east wing is home to members of the Pereira-Braganza family. It boasts a massive ballroom with an impressive marble floor, along with a small chapel that contains one of St. Francis Xavier's fingernails. This part of Braganza House also brims with antiques and international artifacts.

The western side preserves the original grandeur of Braganza House. Owned by the Menezes-Braganças, the museum-like space features an expansive library with 5,000 leather-bound books from the private collection of journalist Luis de Menezes Braganza, who played an important role in the Goan independence movement. Tourists can also see breathtaking Belgian glass chandeliers, antique portraits of the family, and Chinese porcelain.

Located just 12 kilometers north of Molem , Mahadev Temple gives tourists a chance to see a structure that has been standing since the 12th century. Its remote location helped it survive centuries of conquests by the Portuguese and Muslim colonialists. Legend has it that the black basalt temple , which was built to honor Lord Shiva, has a resident king cobra. Step inside to see the detailed work of artisan carvers, including the lotus flower on the ceiling.

If Braganza House got you excited, just wait until you see Palácio do Deão. The 200-plus-year-old palace in Quepem has been restored to its original glory. It features a blend of Indian and Portuguese architecture. Tourists are welcome to explore the heritage home, including its game room and library filled with rare tomes.

The property also features sweeping tropical gardens that make for a pleasant place to spend the afternoon. Consider making reservations in advance for afternoon tea on the terrace.

Goa's unique culture and heritage are on full display at Mangeshi Temple, a beautiful spiritual attraction that's been standing for roughly 450 years. The pastel blue, gold, and white temple features a seven-story tower that pays homage to one of the Hindu god Shiva's many incarnations: Manguesh. The temple structures surround a sacred pool of water , which is thought to be the most historic part of this religious site.

You can watch devotees perform pujas (worship rituals) at the temple every day. If you happen to be there on a Monday, you can watch the Manguesh idol taken out for a procession, complete with music, in the late afternoon or early evening.

Lace up your most comfortable pair of walking shoes and head to Panjim for a stroll around Fontainhas, one of Asia's only Latin quarters . Once the headquarters for the Portuguese government in Goa, the UNESCO-recognized Heritage Zone features colonial houses and cottages decked out with pastel and fluorescent façades. Each of the houses get a fresh coat of paint after the monsoon season every year, ensuring that they always look vibrant for visitors. Don't miss the district's namesake Fountain of Phoenix.

You can explore the area on your own, or book a walking tour for a more in-depth look at the history of this fascinating neighborhood. Either way, you'll definitely work up an appetite as you wander the narrow cobblestone streets and snap photos in front of the candy-colored buildings. Refuel at one of the decades-old cafés or bakeries in the neighborhood. Confeitaria 31 de Janeiro , a bakery near Mary Immaculate School, is known for having a wide selection of tasty Goan cakes and sweets.

Wildlife lovers should put Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary at the top of their Goa travel plans. The state's largest protected wildlife area, which spans 240 square kilometers and is also home to Molem National Park , is home to all kinds of amazing creatures, including the black leopard, Bengal tiger, Malabar giant squirrel, wild boar, slender loris, Indian rock python , and ruby-throated yellow bulbul (Goa's state bird).

Hiring a guide through a travel agent, and visiting the sanctuary in the early morning or late evening increases your chances at catching a glimpse of these animals. During the daytime, you can see the natural wonders of Dudhsagar Falls and Devil's Canyon . You can also check out the Tambdi Surla Temple , a temple that has survived since the 12th century, thanks to its remote location in the forest. The structure is adorned with intricate carvings of the Hindu gods Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma.

Dating back to 1493, Reis Magos Fort was once a defense structure aimed at protecting the area's then-capital, Goa Velha. Today, the fort is a top attraction in Goa for tourists looking to take a break from the beaches and dive into the state's fascinating history.

The site has a storied past not only as a military outpost, but also as a hospital and a jail. Tourists can see cannons, a small museum exhibit on the fort's history, and jaw-dropping views of the Mandovi River .

After your visit, head to the town's other famous attraction: Reis Magos Church. The pristine white church is one of just a handful of churches in Goa that has processions and re-enactments for the Feast of the Three Kings (Epiphany). Inside the structure, you can see an impressive multi-colored wood relief of a scene that depicts the Three Wise Men handing gifts to the Baby Jesus.

I am here to help you choose the best place to stay in North Goa depending on your needs as a traveller. Goa is one of my favourite travel destinations and I visit the place quite often.  I n the current blog, I will be giving you my recommendations for the best budget stays, based on my personal experience.

Where to stay in North Goa?

North Goa is synonymous with “FUN GOA.” If you are travelling to Goa for the first time, I would recommend you stay in this part of the state. With great nightlife, numerous options for adventurous activities and lip-smacking food, it is among the favourites of all youngsters. 

Another reason why North Goa is popular among youngsters is the availability of budget accommodation options. North Goa has some great options for budget travellers.

Best place to stay in North Goa near Beach

Goa is well known for its beaches. Some of Goa’s best-known beaches are located in North Goa. From the fun Baga to cool Arambol, the beaches in North Goa have a lot to offer to its visitors. 

Some of you might have heard of a  beach and would like to stay near it. Below are my recommendations for the best places to stay in North Goa near popular beaches.

Where to stay near Arambol Beach?

Arambol Beach is one of the most alluring beaches in North Goa. It is unexplored and is a good option for people seeking  solitude . With some great markets, this is one of the best beaches in Goa for hippie and bohemian crowds.

Apart from good food and the beach also hosts some of the most gripping night parties and rave parties. Here are my recommendations for the best place to stay near Arambol Beach.

• Om Ganesh Naik Guest House – The Guest House is close to both Querim and Arambol Beach. The place is cozy and not very crowded with tourists. This is one of the best budget options for travellers wanting to stay in Arambol. Prices start at 800 INR per person. 
• Happy Panda Hostel – If you are a solo traveller, looking to meet like-minded people, this is the place. This hostel is a great place to meet backpackers. Prices start at 341 INR per person. 

Where to stay near Morjim Beach?

The Morjim beach is best known as the home to olive ridley sea turtles . The beach is pristine and a great place for all kind of travellers seeking solitude including families and couples. 

These are some of the best places to stay near Morjim Beach.

• Casablanca Morjim – This hotel is run by a Russian couple at a pretty serene location near Morjim beach. The ambience is lovely and the food is an added advantage. Although continental food is good, don’t expect to get Goan food here. Prices start at 1100 INR for two people. 
• La Vega Resort – This is actually a guest house located quite close to Morjim beach. It’s a great place for families.  Prices start at 1000 INR for two people. 

Where to Stay near Baga and Calang ute Beach?

Baga beach is full of life and has a greater number of visitors compared to other beaches. Apart from its nightlife, the beach is celebrated for its food with some well-known clubs such as Tito’s, Britto’s and Mambos.

Calangute is flooded with visitors and is Goa’s most commercialised beach, There are shacks, eating joints and clubs everywhere. Drinks, scrumptious food, night parties, psychedelic music  – you name it, Calangute has it all. This beach is also great for shopping. 

Baga and Calangute beaches are located right next to each other and have a number of water sports activities . If you want to explore the party and fun side of Goa, there is no better place than these two. These are some of the best affordable budget stay options:

• Celebration Apartment 201 – This is the perfect place if you are a group of friends or family. You can book the entire place for yourself.  The place accommodates 5 people and is very clean. It is located at about 3 km from Baga Beach. Prices start at 4000 INR for the entire apartment. 
• Joe and Marietta’s Guesthouse – If you want to stay near Calangute Beach, this is the perfect place. Despite being near Calangute, this stay is relatively calm and secure. I would suggest this stay for all kinds of travellers- groups, couples and family. This is one of the few stays in Calangute that are suitable for a family as well. Prices start at 1150 INR for two people. 
• Joaquina’s Guest House – The guest house is a pretty decent one. It is a decent staying option for families, groups and solo travellers. Prices start at 1180 INR for two people.
• Aerostel Goa – If you are looking for a hostel near Calangute Beach, this is a pretty good option. Prices start at 575 INR per person.

Baga beach is the hotspot of all adventure and nightlife of Goa. Subsequently, it is also one of the most crowded beaches.

Where to stay near Vagator Beach?

 Vagator Beach is one of the most appealing and spectacular beaches of Goa. It is divided into two beaches – Big Vagator and  Little Vagator  ( also known as Ozran Beach). The Ozran beach is more secluded and at the far end of this beach, you will find a sculpture of Shiva Face which is carved into the rocks.

For all the adventure lovers,  water sport activities are considerably cheaper here . This is one of my favourite beaches in North Goa. I would recommend the following stays near Vagator Beach:

• Paapi Chulo Hostel – This is another great hostel for budget travellers. The hostel is located in close proximity to Orzan Beach and Vagator beach. I particularly loved the hosts and the staff as they were really helpful and fun. Strongly recommended for groups and solo travellers. Prices start at 389 INR per person. 
• Dreams Hostel – Located very near to Vagator Beach, this hostel is a great place for solo travellers. The common area is absolutely wonderful and you can make and connect with other travellers from around the world. Prices start at 450 INR per person. 
• Jackies Daynite – This is another great budget option near Vagator Beach. Reaching Chapora fort is pretty easy from here. Prices start at 1000 INR for two people.

Where to stay near Anjuna Beach?

Anjuna is one of the most happening beaches of Goa and it offers both  peace  and  fun. Anjuna is a great place for parties shopping and delicious food.  

I would recommend the following stay near Anjuna beach:

• The Banyan Soul – Although located in Anjuna, this is a pretty serene place. With clean and tidy rooms, the place is perfect to spend some quality time with your loved one. Prices start at 1452 INR for two people. 
• The Nest by Hostelogy  – This property is a hostel as well as a guest house. The best part about this place is its location. The place is located at a very serene spot near Anjuna Beach. The staff is really commendable. Prices start at 745 INR for two people. 
• The Yuppie Hippie Female Hostel – Located in Anjuna, t his hostel is for women only . Therefore, if you are comfortable with the idea of mixed dorms, or wish to stay in an all-women space, this is the perfect option. Prices start at 600 INR per person. 

Best place to stay in North Goa: By Type of Traveller

If your idea of Goa is buzzing beaches, all-night parties, water sports and bohemian street shopping, North Goa is the place where you should stay.

North Goa has no dearth of accommodations. From beach shacks to luxurious resorts. You will find everything here. There are so many options that sometimes it becomes difficult to choose one. This is what I am here to help you with.

I will provide you with some of the best and affordable accommodation options in Goa. I say best because I have stayed in these places myself.

Where to stay in North Goa for Backpackers & Solo Travellers?

If you are a solo traveller travelling to Goa, all by yourself, there are two things that you would be concerned about- accessibility and safety. Personally, I would suggest you stay in one of the backpacker hostels in Goa . Not only are these cheaper, but they also help you meet fellow travellers from around the world.

There are a number of hostels in North Goa but most of them are in the Bardez subdistrict. Hostels near the Anjuna beach and more so near Vagator are the best. If you want to enjoy some hippie vibe choose a hostel near Arambol beach in Pernem.

I would recommend the following places:

• Happy Panda Hostel – This is a great place near Arambol beach where you can meet backpackers. Prices start at 341 INR per person. 
• The Yuppie Hippie Female Hostel – T his hostel is for women only . Therefore, if you are comfortable with the idea of mixed dorms, or wish to stay in an all-women space, this is the perfect option. Prices start at 600 INR per person.

Where to stay in North Goa with Friends?

North Goa is the best when you visit with friends. If you have a list of places you want to visit with your friends, put North Goa right on top.  When travelling to Goa with friends, I suggest you stay at Baga, Calangute or Vagator. These places are the best when it comes to nightlife, food and adventure activities.

If you are a large group; you can book an entire house. If not, guest houses and hotels are available at affordable prices.

Here are some of the properties, I would highly recommend staying in North Goa with friends:

• Joe and Marietta’s Guesthouse – If you want to stay near Calangute Beach, this is the perfect place. Despite being near Calangute, this stay I relatively calm and secure. Prices start at 1150 INR for two people. 

Where to stay in North Goa with Family?

North Goa is known for its wild parties and youngster crowds. Therefore, there are only a few places that are suitable to stay with families especially during the peak season. If you are planning a quiet trip to Goa with family, I suggest you stay in South Goa .

 However, if you are keen on staying in North Goa, you should either stay somewhere in Panjim. Panjim is centrally located and you can access the best of both North and south Goa from here.

These are my top recommendations for the best places to stay in North Goa with Family:

• Joe and Marietta’s Guesthouse –  Despite being near Calangute, this stay I relatively calm and secure. This is one of the few stays in Calangute that are suitable for a family. Prices start at 1150 INR for two people. 
• OYO Home 9355 Exotic Stay : This is a budget hotel located in Panjim. This is a great option if you are looking for a budget stay with family. Prices start at 933 INR for two people. 

Where to stay in North Goa for Couple?

If you are visiting Goa with your significant other, ideally, I would recommend you to stay in South Goa . Best Area to stay North Goa

In order to understand North Goa, I believe that you should know a little bit about this place. North Goa is one of the two districts of the state of Goa. It’s a huge district that comprises of several other subdistricts.

As a traveller, you will be interested in staying in only three of them. These are Pernem. Bardez and Tiswadi . This is because these are the ones that have the beaches and other attractions.

As I pointed out above, where to stay in North Goa will depend on what exactly are you looking for from your Goan holiday. Let’s take a look at the areas in North Goa and what do they offer to a visitor.

Best Accommodation Options in Permen

Pernem is the northernmost part of North Goa and is famous for its temples, quaint beaches and wonderful nature trails. I would recommend you to stay here if you are the kind of person that quietly loves to watch a sunset by the beach.

Pernem would also interest travellers who want to go in for yoga or alternative therapies. The beaches here too are very quiet and have a hippy vibe especially Arambol. Look out for those drum circles and bohemian markets. 

Pernem is one of my favourite places to stay in North Goa.  Based on my personal experience, I would recommend the following places to stay in Pernem:

• Om Ganesh Naik Guest House – The Guest House is close to Querim and Arambol Beach. The place is cozy and not very crowded with tourists. This is one of the best budget options for travellers wanting to stay in Arambol. Prices start at 800 INR per person. 
• Happy Panda Hostel – If you are a solo traveller, looking to meet like-minded people, this is the place. This hostel near Arambol beach is a great place to meet backpackers. Prices start at 341 INR per person. 

Best Accommodation Options in Bardez

Immediately south of the Pernem district is Bardez. This is where you would want to stay if you want to Party all night- be it a moonlit beach party or at one of its clubs.

Bardez is Goa’s most popular tourist destination and the heart of Goa’s famous (or infamous) nightlife. Baga and Calangute areas of Bardez are the busiest places to stay in North Goa. There are a number of hostels, resorts, and hotels in this area. This is the best place to stay in goa for nightlife.

Bardez is a great place to stay if you are travelling to goa with your friends and all you want to do is have some fun. There are a number of well-known beaches in this area including Anjuna, Baga, Vagator and Calangute.

Here are my top recommendations for budget accommodation options in  the area: 

• Joe and Marietta’s Guesthouse – If you want to stay near Calangute Beach, this is the perfect place. Despite being near Calangute, this stay is relatively calm and secure. I would suggest this stay for all kind of travellers- group, couple and family. This is one of the few stays in Calangute that are suitable for a family as well. Prices start at 1150 INR for two people. 
• Jackies Daynite – This is another great budget option near Vagator Beach. Reaching Chapora fort is pretty easy from here. Prices start at 1000 INR for two people. 

Located in Candolim area of Bardez, Fort Aguada is a well-preserved 17th-century Portuguese fort. It lies next to Sinquerim Beach.

Best Accommodation Options in Tiswadi

The Tiswadi district or Ilas de Goa is a part of Goa famous for its Portuguese history. Old Goa, Latin quarters is a fun place to explore if you wish to explore something other than Goa’s beaches.

Other than the capital Panjim, Tiswadi is home to a number of small villages.

The very first time I visited Goa, I stayed in Panjim. It turned out to be a very convenient place to explore Goa. It is almost the centre point. Therefore, Panjim is the best place to stay in Goa to cover all places.  This can be a good base point.

Here are my top recommendations for the best places to stay in Tiswadi:

• OYO Home 9355 Exotic Stay : This is a budget hotel located in Panjim. This is a great option if you are looking for a budget stay with your family. Prices start at 933 INR for two people. 
• Shalom 3 : You can book this entire apartment which can house a maximum of 4 people. The place can be a little difficult to find, so I suggest you connect to the host before reaching. He will help you out with the directions. Prices start at 1250 INR for the entire apartment. 

Budget Tips for Booking a Stay in North Goa

North Goa is one of the busiest travel destinations in India. The place attracts thousands of visitors from all around the world.

Here are a few tips that will help you book a decent budget stay in North Goa:

• Book Early – You need to book well in advance if you are planning to visit during the peak tourist season. This is especially important if you are planning to stay in a hostel or in busy places like Baga or Calangute.
• Call the property – Call the property at least a day before your arrival.  That way not only will they keep your stay ready but you will also get a last-minute confirmation and there won’t be any hassles. 
• Avoid the weekends – Avoid visiting Goa on the weekends. Not only will the prices be inflated but the beaches will be too crowded.

F rom the alpine meadows of Kashmir to the palm-fringed beaches of Goa, these are some of the subcontinent’s most enchanting destinations.

As a former longtime Delhiite and frequent traveler to India, people often ask me what the country is like. I never know how to respond, for trying to sum up a nation as vast and diverse as India feels impossible. So, instead, I asked a few experts for their insights.

“If you visit India, you feel you have visited several countries, as every part is different,” says Mohd Shafi Billo, an inbound tour operator who specializes in helping international travelers plan their trips to the country. “It’s an exceptional destination, thanks to its culture, history, and inclusiveness of different people from different faiths, and it has everything to offer, from forts to mausoleums, wildlife tours to mountain adventures.”  

Shoba Rudra, founder and partner at hospitality consultancy Rare India , agrees. “The country is living a dynamic moment in history, ever-changing,” she says. “What's constant, however, is the vibrant culture lived through its festivals, cuisine, heritage, crafts, and performing arts.”

While it would take years to see it all, India is an approachable destination — if you can narrow things down. With that in mind, here are 15 of the best places to get you started on your sojourn to the subcontinent.

Stretching along the southernmost part of India’s Malabar Coast, the tropical state of Kerala entices visitors with its marshy backwaters, which most people visit on overnight houseboat adventures. These popular cruises “showcase lush landscapes and peaceful villages, and [give visitors] a glimpse into local life amid tranquil waters and picturesque surroundings,” says Billo. While the backwaters are a star attraction, the state offers much more to explore, from the tea plantations of Munnar, known for its cool climate and seemingly endless rolling hills, to the historic city of Kochi, celebrated in equal measure for its rich coastal history and contemporary art scene . The beaches aren’t too shabby, either. “North Kerala is also famous, as the Malabar Coast is where the spice trade flourished,” says Rudra. “The coastal area is picturesque and this region is still unexplored.”

On the opposite end of the country from Kerala, Kashmir offers entirely different — but equally captivating — landscapes. With its alpine climate, evergreen trees, and snowy winters, Kashmir is often likened to a mini Switzerland . Famed 13th-century Sufi poet Amir Khusrau once proclaimed in Farsi, “If there is a paradise on earth, it is this,” and he may have been onto something. At the heart of it all is Srinagar, Kashmir’s capital city, which is known for its elegant gardens and watery centerpiece, Dal Lake. “Highlights include staying on a houseboat or taking a shikara [traditional Kashmiri boat] ride,” says Billo, who hails from the area. Don't leave without indulging in wazwan , an opulent, meat-heavy feast that can feature up to three dozen dishes in one sitting. 

Occupying a high-altitude plateau in the northernmost reaches of India, Ladakh is characterized by otherworldly landscapes and big skies, punctuated by palatial stupas and monasteries. Many visitors come to Ladakh’s capital, Leh, during the short summer tourist season, but this surreal region offers plenty more to experience beyond the city. Billo suggests visiting the Nubra Valley, an isolated part of the old Silk Road that’s only accessible by crossing Khardung La, one of the world’s highest motorable passes. “The valley offers a glimpse into Ladakh's unique geography and cultural diversity with monasteries, quaint villages, and apricot orchards,” says Billo. The region is also rich with unusual wildlife, from elusive snow leopards to the scaled-down Bactrian camels that originated in the steppes of Central Asia.

Rishikesh, Uttarakhand

On the banks of the sacred Ganges River, the holy city of Rishikesh has held a place in the hearts of spiritually minded travelers — both from India and abroad — for generations. It’s the self-proclaimed “yoga capital of the world,” with a mix of traditional ashrams (spiritual rest houses) that cater largely to Hindu pilgrims and yoga centers that attract international visitors with teacher-training courses and meditation retreats. If you’re not into yoga, you’ll still find plenty to do here. Popular activities include visiting the ruins of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s ashram (dubbed the Beatles Ashram in honor of its most famous former residents) to whitewater rafting adventures on the mighty Ganges. It’s also a great place for a wellness getaway, and nearby Ananda in the Himalayas was voted one of Travel + Leisure readers' favorite international spas in 2023.

Auroville, Tamil Nadu

If you’re looking for a place that’s unlike anywhere else in India — or, frankly, the world — head to the intentional community of Auroville in South India. This UNESCO-recognized global township was founded in the 1960s with the goal of "realizing human unity," beyond the illusory divisions of creed or nationality, and it's home to generations of residents from around the world. Many visitors come for an hour or two, just long enough to view Auroville’s spiritual center — the golden, dome-shaped Matrimandir . However, it’s worth sticking around a bit longer to get a feel for what the community is about. As Akash Kapur, who grew up in Auroville and authored " Better to Have Gone " and " India Becoming ," puts it: "Come to Auroville if you're interested in alternative societies, sustainable living, or spirituality, but try not to just drop in for a few hours (as many do), and instead spend some time here, really getting to know the people and their work. The community rewards sustained immersion."

Andaman Islands

Although most people associate the crystalline waters of the Andaman Sea with Thai island getaways, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in this tropical region are under Indian control. This little stretch of paradise is full of gorgeous shorelines, but most visitors devote their vacations to the island of Swaraj Dweep (formerly known as Havelock). The most popular beach on the island is Radhanagar Beach , which offers just over a mile of white sand sandwiched between tropical jungle and warm, transparent waters. Getting to this remote island requires a bit of gumption: You'll need to fly from the Indian mainland to Port Blair on South Andaman Island, then catch a ferry or charter a seaplane for the final stretch. While visitors are welcome on many islands in the chain, a few — including secluded North Sentinel Island — are off-limits. 

While many travelers see India’s capital as a jumping-off point for visiting further-afield destinations, it’s worth sticking around for a while to truly appreciate what Delhi has to offer. There’s certainly never a dull moment in this busy metropolis, whether you’re shopping for handicrafts at one of its numerous markets or learning about medieval and Mughal history at one of its three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Humayun's Tomb, Qutb Minar, and Red Fort. Although Delhi is undeniably rambunctious, it also has a quieter, more peaceful side that you can find amidst the trees and 15th-century tombs of Central Delhi’s Lodi Gardens or in the quiet interiors of the Baháʼí Lotus Temple.

Taj Mahal, Agra, Uttar Pradesh

Many travelers to India put the 17th-century Taj Mahal at the top of their list. This white marble mausoleum is easily India’s most recognizable structure — and it’s one of the New Seven Wonders of the World . This popular attraction also has a romantic backstory. “This iconic symbol of love is renowned for its architectural beauty, intricate marble work, and the captivating story behind its creation by emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal,” notes Billo. The bodies of the emperor and his wife remain interred in the Taj to this day. 

Jaipur. Rajasthan

The capital of Rajasthan and one-third of North India’s popular Golden Triangle tourist route (which also includes Agra and Delhi), Jaipur is a must-visit for those who love architecture and shopping. “The Pink City, as it's nicknamed, offers a rich cultural heritage, stunning [landmarks] like Amber Fort, vibrant bazaars, and intricate handicrafts,” says Billo. Many of Jaipur's key attractions are found in the historic walled part of the city, which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019. Highlights include Jantar Mantar (a collection of oversized — and fully functional — astronomical instruments dating to the 17th century) and Hawa Mahal, or Palace of the Winds, a honeycomb-shaped palace designed with tiny windows that allowed air to flow freely through its interior.

Jodhpur, Rajasthan

Dubbed the Blue City because of the cerulean-colored buildings that extend for miles through the oldest part of town, Jodhpur has long attracted travelers eager to explore the ramparts of the larger-than-life Mehrangarh Fort. It’s also home to the grandiose Umaid Bhawan Palace , which made headlines in 2018 when Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas tied the knot there. While Jodhpur’s beautiful, regal architecture is reason enough to visit, there’s more to the city than massive forts and grand palaces. “The area around the Toorji ka Jhalra stepwell in the old city is fun to explore,” says hotelier Sapna Bhatia, owner of Kaner Retreat and Jodhpur-area native. “For nature enthusiasts, there’s the Rao Jodha desert park near Mehrangarh Fort.”

Udaipur, Rajasthan

T+L readers' favorite city in Asia and second favorite city in the world , Udaipur very much fits the bill of a fairy tale destination. Nicknamed the City of Lakes, thanks to its seven lakes, this gorgeous destination is home to some of India's finest luxury hotels plus historic whitewashed palaces, including the magnificent City Palace, an 11-palace complex that houses hotels, a huge museum with an impressive collection of European crystal, and a royal residence. A short boat ride from the palace lies the 18th-century Taj Lake Palace, an opulent palace-turned-hotel in the middle of Lake Pichola. It’s a quick drive from The Oberoi, Udaivilas , a purpose-built palatial hotel with onion-domed cupolas and a moat-like swimming pool that directly connects to some of the rooms. 

If you’re looking for a less-frequented, but no less amazing, alternative to more touristed states such as Rajasthan, consider Gujarat. “Under-explored but culturally rich, this state in India is a tapestry of festivals, textiles, architectural heritage, communities, and landscape,” says Rudra. Gujarat was also the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi, who led the Salt March, one of his most famous acts of peaceful protest, through the state in 1930. Rudra suggests visiting the National Salt Satyagraha Memorial , which “honors the activists through murals, installations, sculptures, art, and related film.” It's also worth checking out the Kutch district, known for its distinct metal bells , which were originally used for keeping track of livestock and are now popular as decorative wind chimes.

Kaziranga National Park, Assam

The northeast Indian state of Assam is home to a treasure for wildlife enthusiasts: Kaziranga National Park . This expansive, UNESCO-listed wildlife refuge near the borders of Bangladesh and Bhutan has the largest population of Indian one-horned rhinoceroses on the planet, providing a home to roughly 2,000 of these massive beasts. Although rhinos are the star attraction on park safaris, all sorts of animals live here, including tigers, elephants, gibbons, sloth bears, and a small number of endangered Ganges River dolphins. 

Historic, glitzy, and positively gargantuan, Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay) is easily one of India’s most cosmopolitan destinations. This city by the sea is the nation's financial and entertainment capital, and while you’re unlikely to rub shoulders with Bollywood stars here, you're sure to see a lot of impressive attractions in very little time. Take a boat out to Elephanta Island to explore fifth– and sixth–century rock-hewn cave temples, marvel at the grand Indo-Saracenic architecture at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus , or see thousands of clothes hanging out to dry at Dhobi Ghat, the world's largest open-air laundry. Then, head to the sleek neighborhood of Bandra West, where many of Mumbai’s best restaurants and hotels are located, including Taj Lands End, voted T+L readers' favorite city hotel in India in 2023.

India’s smallest state, Goa, is arguably its top beach destination, where long days of swimming and sunbathing turn into longer nights of partying on the sand. While Goa has been known as a hippie haven since the 1960s, it's started to shed its reputation in recent decades. It’s still very much a party state, though it also draws in families and couples in search of sea and sun, sans nightlife. It’s a great place for history buffs as well, with numerous seaside forts and UNESCO-recognized churches that were built when Goa was under Portuguese rule. And while the destination has always been loved for its fiery dishes that combine traditional Konkani ingredients with Portuguese influences, it has also emerged as a culinary hot spot , where a new generation of chefs is showcasing everything from Japanese yakitori to jackfruit tamales.
