Field trips cost $500 for up to 30 students with a $20 charge for each additional student up to a maximum of 35 students. We cannot accommodate more than 35 students per field trip; we subscribe to Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) best practices including student-led and phenomenon-based learning. Students will be guided to make their own discoveries at their own pace with the park as the center of their inquiry.

Program and transportation scholarships are available to Title 1 schools as well as groups of people with special needs. If you are eligible, please indicate your interest on the Field Trip Request Form.  Please note: Scholarship eligibility requirements have changed for the 2023-24 school year.

All groups must provide at least one engaged, adult chaperone for every 8 students on the trip; the specific chaperone ratio for field trips for people with special needs will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Participants should be divided evenly into three small groups before the field trip; each group will rotate through exciting, hands-on activity stations!

Available Field Trips

Offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays ONLY

Garden Field Trip focuses on teaching students about the different facets of nature. It includes guided tours of our Historic Orchard and Heritage Rose Garden, where students can learn about history, agriculture, and ecological relationships. Our activities are designed to meet the Next Generation Science standards and help students understand the complex relationships between plants, pollinators, and the dynamics within the life of an orchard. By the end of our program, students will have a profound understanding of the interconnected systems and adaptations developed by these ecosystems for their survival and prosperity. This knowledge will enrich their learning experience and help them appreciate the beauty and importance of nature.

Offered on Tuesdays ONLY

Physics in Nature invites students to explore fundamental physics concepts through fun and interactive experiences. This series of dynamic activities unfold in our Rotary PlayGarden, where students, depending on their age, will learn about friction, energy, sound, and speed by using our Rotary PlayGarden equipment. The exploration extends with a trail tour that delves into physics concepts within a park environment. Here, students investigate gravity, motion, and adaptations in plants and animals, reinforcing their comprehension through direct observations. Supporting the Next Generation Science Standards, this field trip presents a comprehensive and interconnected approach to physics education, fostering both practical understanding and a heightened appreciation for these fundamental principles across diverse natural settings.

Coming Soon

River Field Trips encourage a deeper understanding of the riparian corridor through the exploration of the Guadalupe River and Trail. Every River Field Trip includes a Nature Walk along the Guadalupe River Trail and grade-specific activities designed to incorporate Next Generation Science Standards. With a focus on animals, students may learn about our feathered friends; the salmon that call the river home; tiny insects hiding on underwater rocks; or the reptiles, amphibians, crustaceans, and mammals that make up our park’s web of life. By learning about their ecological niches, students will better understand the delicate balance of urban nature, along with their role in the system.

A note about river field trips:  In order to protect the delicate ecosystem of the river and to ensure student safety, field trips may not enter the river at certain times of year. All field trips will support similar standards and developmental milestones.

Trail Tour Field Trips serve as a wonderful overview of the Guadalupe River Park. Over the course of ninety minutes, students will travel from one part of the park to another, stopping along the way for investigations and activities designed to pique their interest in urban nature. Centered on the development of perspective-taking, an essential Executive Function skill, our Trail Tour will show students the systems and adaptations of an urban park, hopefully inspiring them towards becoming environmental stewards, engineers, urban planners, and scientists of the future.

“ My students loved their park experience, exploring and observing their surroundings. It was truly rewarding to see students connect the activities to key concepts we were learning about and investigating in class. Participation in the Garden Field Trip Class allowed students to take on the role of being biologists in a meaningful way. ”

Garden Field Trip Group (Second Grade)

“ The staff interactions were genuine with our students. We liked how there were visuals and headphones in the restrooms. The entire concept of the field trip was great for our students. All staff were professional and truly cared about our students and their program. ”

River Explorers (Special Needs)

“ In every station, my students were always engaged, excited, and asking a lot of questions. Those field trips ignite my students’ inquiry skills and help them extend their knowledge. We appreciate this program and we are looking forward to next year’s trip! ”

River Field Trip Group (Third Grade)

“ We really loved the centered, hands-on learning that our classes experienced. The dissection of flowers to learn the different parts was great. Students were able to take the learning from class and see it in person… each student returned to class with their special project and included it in their learning portfolio. ”

“As this is the technology age, many of my students unfortunately, have not had the chance to visit parks and spend time outdoors. When we were on our nature walk with [the Guadalupe Guide leader], many of my students voiced that they had never seen caterpillars before and many were afraid… So being outdoors and having the chance to explain to them right then and there that the bugs and insects surrounding us were harmless, probably had a “nature job” to do, and were simply part of nature; I believe that this is what they took from our awesome field trip that day. The group leaders were great with my students, questioning them to make them think and solve for themselves.” River Field Trip Group

“The Guadalupe River Park field trip was an extremely engaging, enriching and powerful experience for my students. The instructors were extremely knowledgeable and had great management to engage all my students. My students were able to learn about different trees, nuts, flowers and animals that live in the park. Students used their five senses to learn about their surroundings in a hands-on approach that aligned with all the grade level, common core standards… My students all raved about how they loved being able to learn about new leaves and trees through sense of touch and smell. “ River Field Trip Group (Third Grade)

“My class made two trips to you – one for the Pollination Experience and one for the River Explorer. These were the best field trips my class has ever taken. I’d love to get us back up there again. Because my students are disadvantaged in addition to being disabled, they lack so many experiences that normal children get to explore. I try very hard to teach my students to become nature explorers, observers and lovers. Thanks again!! ” Special Needs Class

The entrance to the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum in San Jose

The Tech Museum,San Jose Other children’s museums and kid-oriented attractions had to step up their game when this place moved into its flashy digs on San Carlos in 1998. The Tech Museum was, and still is, the place to indulge your inner geek, by playing with complicated electronic contraptions that looked like the things your parents told you not to mess with, and ogling the awesome IMAX dome. While not all of us grew up to be programmers, we all got a quick thrill riding the earthquake simulator, piloting our own jet pack, or spelling out dirty words with the alphabet-block robot on the 2nd floor.

Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum, San Jose It’s pretty much agreed that the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum is the coolest place you’ll ever be forced to go. The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum throws you head-first into the world of the Ancient Egyptians, jam-packed with ancient art and pottery, well-preserved mummies, and even a life-size, walk-through model of an Egyptian tomb. Even the most determined class clown, when faced with artifacts that have survived thousands upon thousands of years, had to wonder what the Egyptians were doing right. There’s a good chance the Rosicrucian Museum might have, even for a few hours, made you care about history.

Alum Rock Park, San Jose What’s that smell? Why, it’s the enticing, rotten-egg aroma of sulfur, and there’s a huge concentration of it in the water that flows in the mineral springs at Alum Rock Park . As unpleasantly pungent as Alum Rock Park may be, it’s home to the Youth Science Institute, where students can take in science exhibits and meet a small collection of feathered friends that the Institute studies and cares for.

Emma Prusch Farm Park, San Jose The last thing you’d expect to see under the freeway at Story and King is sprawling green acreage, but there Emma Prusch Farm Park stands, as it has for almost 50 years. Prusch Farm Park has a barn that houses friendly livestock that like to meet and greet with younger kids, making it a popular field trip with preschools, kindergarten classes and day camps. Emma Prusch Farms experiencing a renaissance of sorts these days, gaining new relevance as the curators of Veggielution, a community farm program aiming to create a sustainable stock of vegetables for San Joseans.

Or book a group of 50 people to enjoy 25% off (plus 2 free tickets for coordinators.) We’ll block off a section of seats in advance for your group to sit together.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Chevron down What will the children make during the event?

You select the menu and we make it with your guests entirely from scratch. All of our menus are delicious and oh-so-fun for the age of the group. Our most popular menus typically include pizza, pasta, sushi rolls, cupcakes, and donuts but we have many menus to choose from. We’re sure you’ll find the perfect menu for you.

  • Chevron down Can you accommodate my allergy or dietary restriction?

All of our menus are nut-free. We do our best to offer a wide variety of menus that cater to different dietary needs and restrictions from vegetarian to gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free and vegan. If you select an allergy-free menu, it is important to note that while the recipes are free of those ingredients, we are not an allergy-free facility for these ingredients. Recipes are cooked at group tables, and for your safety individual adjustments cannot be made. Please contact your local Kitchen if you have any questions.

If an individual participant has an allergy that would prevent them from enjoying what you’ve prepared, they have the option to bring in an individual portion of a nut-free outside food for their enjoyment. For example, a frosted cupcake or room-temp gluten-free pasta dish. The outside food cannot require heat or preparation and TBK will not serve this food to the client.

  • Chevron down What should my child wear/bring?

Bring a water bottle labeled with your child’s first and last name. We prefer close-toed shoes and long hair pulled back in our Kitchen. We will have aprons for you to wear, so just bring your smiling face and a willingness to delve into all things tasty!

  • Chevron down Will you come to my school?

No, we do not currently visit schools.

  • Chevron down What are the payment details for my event?

Event deposits are non-refundable and non-transferrable; if you’d like to change your date and/or time a new deposit is required. Modification to the selected menu, guest headcount, add-ons and favors are acceptable until 5 days prior to your event. After this time, your headcount is a guaranteed attendance and will not be reduced regardless of how many guests attend. The remaining balance will be charged to the card on file 5 days prior to your event. If your event falls on a Tuesday or Wednesday, the card on file will be charged the preceding Friday. Coyote Ceanothus ( Ceanothus ferrisiae ) Population Creation Site on Coyote Ridge: Assisted Colonization of an Endangered Chaparral Shrub

Wednesday, October 19, 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Field Trip Location: Coyote Ridge, Morgan Hill, southern Santa Clara County

Instructor: Janell Hillman (Santa Clara Valley Water District), Diana Benner (The Watershed Nursery), and Ted Swiecki (Phytosphere Research)

The Coyote Ceanothus mitigation project was initiated in 2011 to compensate for impacts from the planned Anderson Dam Seismic Retrofit Project. The population creation site located on Coyote Ridge was first planted in 2014 with annual planting since then. We will tour the mitigation site, see planting areas in gray pine woodland, serpentine chaparral, serpentine grassland and Ca sagebrush scrub, and discuss successes and challenges associated with managed relocation of a federally endangered chaparral shrub restricted to serpentine soil. Topics include selection of a suitable introduction site to create a functional plant community, ecological considerations, regulatory requirements, planting methods, site maintenance, and sanitation practices to prevent plant pathogen introduction. We will also see several other endangered plant species and natural communities, and if we’re lucky, the tarantulas will be out! A beautiful view of the Diablo Range foothills, Mt. Hamilton, and Lick Observatory is pretty much guaranteed.

Regional Parks Botanic Garden at Tilden

Field Trip Location: Berkeley, CA

Instructor: Bart O’Brien (Regional Parks Botanic Garden)

Join East Bay Regional Parks Botanic Garden director Bart O’Brien for a botanical tour through the state of California within the garden’s 10 acres at Tilden Regional Park in the Berkeley Hills. This fall walk will highlight some of the fall colors, fruits and berries that native flora provide for the local fauna. We will also see newly added areas at the botanic garden. If you haven’t visited lately, the new crevice garden (featuring exciting alpine plants of the high Sierra in 116.25 tons of schist and slate) is a must see.

At the Regional Parks Botanic Garden, mid-October is often a good time for fall color on Acer circinatum, Acer macrophyllum, Vitis ‘Roger’s Red’, Cornus (nuttallii, glabrata, sericea, sessilis), Fraxinus velutina, and many species of Salix. Showy fall fruits can normally be found on snowberries, madrones, and toyons. Depending on the year, the very first flowering manzanitas (refugioensis) and currants (Ribes malvaceum) often start in October. Late summer bloomers, particularly some of the wild buckwheats (Eriogonum cinereum and others), and some members of the Asteraceae are at their best – unless there are significant early rains (which doesn’t seem likely).

The Tech Interactive

Announcement:

Letter to the community, may 22, 2024, san jose, ca .

As a public-serving institution, The Tech is committed to meaningful communication with our community, which includes the individuals who comprise our staff, board, members, visitors, and volunteers. In this spirit, we are sharing information about recent strategic decisions aimed at securing the long term sustainability and vibrancy of our institution.

Like many cultural institutions post-pandemic, revenue streams, including general admission tickets, membership fees and contributed revenues have been lower than anticipated, and federal relief funding has expired. To align with our attendance patterns and to better serve our community sustainably for the longer term, we have developed a new seasonal operating model for The Tech Interactive. This includes strategically timed closures in slower field trip months and dedicated focus days for school visits.

As we chart this course of growth and renewal, we recognize the need for strategic alignment within our organization. Regrettably, this will involve a reduction of 10% in our staff. These decisions have been made with great care and consideration, with a focus on preserving our ability to fulfill our mission effectively and to allow us to expand our core programs to serve more people.

I want to express my gratitude for the community's support of The Tech. Together, we are designing a vibrant and sustainable future, one that will allow us to continue to make an impact in our community and beyond. I invite you to join us on this journey as we embark on our next chapter of innovation.

Field Trips

A field trip, per the Academic Affairs Division Field Trip Policy [pdf] , is an off-campus group learning activity, linked to a scheduled university course, led by a faculty or staff member who supervises the group. This definition  does not include  off-campus learning activities such as internships, service learning, or extracurricular assignments for students to visit specified sites where a student acts independently of a group excursion. (Internships and service learning are covered by different policies.)

Field trips are part of the university curriculum and must be described in sufficient detail on any course syllabus in which a field trip is held. Field trips should be clearly linked to the student learning outcomes of the course in which they occur and should be assessed for effectiveness in helping students meet those learning outcomes in accordance with the department's assessment plan. Faculty members should identify all required or voluntary field trips in the course syllabus and provide detailed information about date, time, location, means of transportation and any fees for which a participant is responsible. Faculty must consider ADA implications of field trips, and offer reasonable accommodations or an alternative assignment or activity for those who cannot participate in the field trip.

Field trips (along with internships, service learning, study abroad and other potentially hazardous activities) require a dedicated level of attention to safety and risk procedures, depending on the nature of the activity. The Academic Affairs Division has a responsibility to insure that the university curriculum conforms to applicable state, local, and campus policies , including safety and risk management policies. In the context of our responsibility to promote the academic development of our students, SJSU faculty and staff are responsible for ensuring a safe instructional environment for all SJSU students. Faculty and staff have a duty to warn participants of any known hazards at a field trip site. They must exercise reasonable/ordinary care to protect and supervise students while they are participating in a field trip. They must be reasonably prepared to respond to emergencies while on a field trip, as they are on campus.

Faculty members are responsible for having students fill out the  Student Travel Informed Consent Form  found on the Finance Field Trip website .

Departments must maintain copies of the Student Travel Informed Consent Form for a minimum of one year .

Reds sweep Dodgers with 4-1 win, extending their longest losing streak since 2019 to five

CINCINNATI (AP) — Jonathan India and Nick Martini each drove in two runs, and the Cincinnati Reds held off the Los Angeles Dodgers for a 4-1 victory on Sunday that extended LA’s longest losing streak since 2019 to five.

Brent Suter, Nick Martinez, Carson Spiers and Alexis Díaz combined for a five-hitter. Martinez (2-3) pitched 4 1/3 innings of one-hit ball on a bullpen day for Cincinnati, and Díaz got two outs for his 10th save.

It’s the longest slide for Los Angeles since it dropped six in a row from April 8-13, 2019.

Freddie Freeman hit an RBI double in the ninth, stopping a 0-for-22 slide for the Dodgers with runners in scoring position. Freeman then advanced on defensive indifference, but Díaz struck out Teoscar Hernández and Andy Pages swinging.

TIGERS 14, BLUE JAYS 11

DETROIT (AP) — Matt Vierling homered twice, including a tiebreaking, three-run drive off Jordan Romano in the ninth inning that gave Detroit a wild win over Toronto after they'd wasted a five-run lead and recovered from a two-run deficit.

Vierling had four hits and tied career highs with two homers and four RBIs.

Carson Kelly hit a three-run homer and Spencer Torkelson hit a solo shot for Detroit, which led 5-0 after three innings, 8-3 after five and 9-5 after six.

Toronto’s Isiah Kiner-Falefa homered in the seventh off Tyler Holton, and the Blue Jays took an 11-9 lead with a five-run eighth when Bo Bichette hit a two-run single off Jason Foley and Daulton Varsho hit a three-run homer.

Mark Canha tied the score with a two-run single against Yimi García in the bottom half, his third hit.

Vierling, who hit a solo homer in the fifth off Zach Pop, drove a full-count slider from Romano (1-2) over the left-field wall for his first big league walk-off hit. A two-time All-Star, Romano has allowed three homers this year, half his total last season.

RED SOX 2, BREWERS 1

BOSTON (AP) — Jarren Duran had a tiebreaking single in the eighth inning and Boston beat Milwaukee to salvage a series finale.

Rafael Devers had a sacrifice fly for Boston, which completed just its second series win against the Brewers at Fenway Park since 2015. The Red Sox improved to 9-0 on Sundays.

William Contreras’ RBI single drove in the Brewers’ run.

Ceddanne Rafaela led off the eighth with a double into the left-field corner against Elvis Peguero (4-2) and scored on Durran’s single.

Justin Slaten (3-2) struck out the side in the eighth, and Kenley Jansen struck out two in a perfect ninth for his ninth save in 10 chances, the 429th of his career.

NL Central-leading Milwaukee had won three of its previous four.

Red Sox starter Tanner Houck gave up one run in six innings, lowering his ERA to 1.90 — Boston’s lowest after 11 starts since Clay Buchholz’s 1.62 in 2013.

MARINERS 9, NATIONALS 5

WASHINGTON (AP) — Julio Rodríguez homered and drove in four runs, and Seattle snapped a four-game losing streak with a win against Washington.

Ty France hit a two-run homer and singled home the go-ahead run for Seattle, which finished 4-6 on an East Coast trip.

With Seattle trailing 5-4, J.P. Crawford doubled leading off the eighth against Dylan Floro (1-1). Crawford took third on a wild pitch and scored on a one-out single by Rodríguez, snapping Floro’s 22-inning scoreless streak.

Rodríguez stole second and scored when France grounded a single to right. Rodríguez also capped Seattle’s three-run ninth with a two-run single.

METS 4, GIANTS 3

NEW YORK (AP) — Omar Narváez capped a three-run, ninth-inning rally with his first hit of the year at Citi Field after an 0-for-27 start, lifting New York over San Francisco to stop a five-game losing streak.

New York had blown leads from the sixth inning on in its previous three games and had scored three runs in 18 innings before overcoming a 3-1 deficit in the ninth against Tyler Rogers (0-1).

Brandon Nimmo and J.D. Martinez opened with singles and scored on Harrison Bader’s one-out double. Brett Baty was intentionally walked and Narváez, who entered after catcher Tomás Nido was pinch hit for in the eighth, singled on an 0-1 pitch.

Bader had an RBI single in the second and robbed Matt Chapman of a home run with a leaping catch at the center-field wall in the sixth.

New York has five walk-off wins among 11 home victories. San Francisco, which had won four straight, dropped back to .500 at 27-27.

RAYS 4, ROYALS 1

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Brandon Lowe drove in three runs with a pinch-hit triple during Tampa Bay’s four-run seventh inning, as they stopped Kansas City’s eight-game win streak with a victory.

The Rays had lost a season-high six straight.

Kansas City’s Michael Wacha (4-5) lost his perfect-game bid in the sixth, and was pulled after Harold Ramírez singled and Isaac Paredes had a double to start the seventh. John Schreiber then hit Randy Arozarena and permitted a fielder’s choice grounder before Lowe delivered on the first pitch he saw.

It was Lowe’s second hit in 17 at-bats since returning from a strained right oblique.

Garrett Cleavinger (4-0) got three outs for the win, and Pete Fairbanks handled the ninth for his fifth save in six chances.

Batting with the bases loaded, Bobby Witt Jr. bounced to second for the final out of the game.

BRAVES 8, PIRATES 1

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Ronald Acuña Jr. left Atlanta’s 8-1 win over Pittsburgh after he tore his left ACL , as they won behind Chris Sale.

Acuña opened the game with a double to right-center field against Martín Pérez. With Marcell Ozuna at the plate, Acuña started toward third on a stolen base attempt and his left knee gave way. The reigning NL MVP remained down for several minutes while being treated, pointing at his left leg before walking off under his own power.

The Braves’ initial diagnosis was left knee soreness. But the team announced Sunday night that an MRI showed a complete ACL tear that will require season-ending surgery.

Jarred Kelenic went 3 for 4 in place of Acuña, a 26-year-old outfielder batting .250 with four home runs and 15 RBIs in 49 games.

Sale (8-1) struck out eight while pitching seven innings of one-run ball. It was another impressive outing for the 35-year-old left-hander, who has regained the form that earned him seven straight All-Star selections from 2012-18 before a string of injuries.

RANGERS 6, TWINS 2

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Corey Seager homered twice and Nathaniel Lowe had two hits and two RBIs, helping Texas beat Minnesota.

Josh Smith and Leody Tavares had two hits apiece for the World Series champions, who had lost six straight and 12 of 14 overall. The Rangers scored more than four runs for the first time since a 12-11 victory at Oakland on May 8.

Carlos Correa had two hits and an RBI for the Twins, who had won four in a row. Max Kepler had a run-scoring double.

Minnesota right-hander Pablo López (4-5) was tagged for six runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings in his third consecutive loss. His ERA increased to 5.25 on the season.

Rangers starter Gerson Garabito permitted one run and two hits in 3 2/3 innings in his major league debut. The 28-year-old right-hander had 10 seasons, pitching in the Royals and Giants organizations and in independent leagues, before getting called up from Triple-A Round Rock to make the start.

Jonathan Hernández, Jacob Latz (1-1) and José Leclerc limited the Twins to one hit over 5 1/3 innings. Latz and Leclerc combined to retire the final 13 Twins hitters.

ROCKIES 5, PHILLIES 2

DENVER (AP) — Ryan McMahon hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the first inning, and Colorado sent Ranger Suárez to his first loss of the season in a victory over Philadelphia.

Colorado, last in the NL West at 18-34, took two of three games and ended a streak of 15 straight winning or tied series for the major league-best Phillies (38-16), Philadelphia’s longest streak since 1983-84.

Suárez (9-1) allowed season highs of five runs and four walks in six innings, while giving up four earned runs and three hits with eight strikeouts. His ERA rose from 1.36 to 1.75.

Cal Quantrill (4-3) gave up two runs and three hits in six innings.

Tyler Kinley pitched a perfect ninth for his second save of the season, finishing a five-hitter.

McMahon’s team-leading 10th home run of the season put the Rockies ahead, and Colorado boosted the lead to 5-0 in the second. Hunter Goodman hit an RBI double, Brendan Rodgers hit into a run-scoring forceout as third baseman Alec Bohm threw wildly past first for an error in trying for an inning-ending double play as a second run scored.

Suárez retired his final 13 batters.

ASTROS 5, ATHLETICS 2

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Ronel Blanco held Oakland in check for seven innings in his return from a suspension and Kyle Tucker hit a two-run homer to lead Houston to victory.

Jose Altuve added a two-run single in front of an announced crowd of 10,927 to help the Astros win the series and improve to 18-4 against the A’s over the past two seasons.

Blanco (5-0) looked sharp in his return from a 10-game suspension for having a foreign substance in his glove during a start against Oakland in Houston last week.

He struck out five of his first eight batters and allowed only four hits, including a solo homer by Max Schuemann, before turning the game over to the bullpen. Houston improved to 8-1 in games started this season by Blanco, who has allowed only 33 hits in 54 1/3 innings.

Shea Langeliers added a solo homer in the ninth for Oakland against Josh Hader.

ORIOLES 4, WHITE SOX 1

CHICAGO (AP) — Kyle Bradish struck out 11 in seven no-hit innings, and Baltimore beat Chicago for a sweep of their four-game series.

Bradish (1-0), who missed the start of the season because of a right elbow injury, walked four in his fifth start this season. He threw 103 pitches, 63 for strikes.

Danny Coulombe was inserted for the eighth, and Danny Mendick led off with a pinch-hit drive to left for Chicago’s only hit of the game. It was Mendick’s second homer of the season.

Adley Rutschman and Colton Cowser homered for Baltimore, which closed out a 4-3 trip. The Orioles were swept by St. Louis before their successful stay in Chicago.

Craig Kimbrel pitched a perfect ninth for his 12th save.

MARLINS 3, DIAMONDBACKS 1

PHOENIX (AP) — Ryan Weathers threw six dominant innings, Jake Burger hit a two-run single with two outs in the seventh and Miami beat Arizona.

The surging Marlins took two of three from the Diamondbacks for their fourth consecutive series win. Miami has won nine of 13 after starting the season 10-31.

Weathers (3-4) continued his breakout season with another stellar performance, giving up four hits, walking one and striking out seven. The 24-year-old left-hander has given up just one earned run in his past three starts, spanning 21 innings.

Tanner Scott worked the ninth for his seventh save in eight chances.

The Marlins took a 3-0 lead in the seventh, taking advantage of shortstop Kevin Newman’s throwing error that allowed Nick Fortes to score the first run.

GUARDIANS 5, ANGELS 4

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Ben Lively pitched seven innings of two-run ball, and Cleveland beat Los Angeles for their ninth consecutive win.

It’s the longest win streak for Cleveland since it won an AL-record 22 in a row from Aug, 24 to Sept. 14, 2017. It matched the franchise’s best 53-game start at 36-17, also accomplished in 1920, 1954 and 1995. The team reached the World Series in all three of those seasons, winning in 1920.

Lively (4-2) allowed four hits, struck out five and walked two. Emmanuel Clase got three outs for his 17th save in 20 chances.

Matt Thaiss homered for the Angels, who lost for the fourth time in five games. Reid Detmers (3-5) struck out eight in five innings, but he was charged with three runs and four hits.

Cleveland star José Ramírez walked twice and drove in a run after going deep three times in the first two games of the series. He was robbed of a homer when Jo Adell made a leaping catch in right in the eighth.

PADRES 5, YANKEES 2

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Luis Arraez and Fernando Tatis Jr. had consecutive RBI singles in the four-run sixth inning and San Diego beat New York to avoid being swept in consecutive home series.

Joe Musgrove pitched well for the Padres in his second start back from the injured list and Jeremiah Estrada (2-0) struck out five straight batters for the win.

Alex Verdugo homered in the ninth off Robert Suarez, the Yankees’ sixth long ball this series. Suarez was summoned in the eighth after Wandy Peralta walked two with two outs, and punched out Aaron Judge. Suarez allowed his first run since March 28 but remained perfect in 15th save chances.

The Padres trailed 1-0 entering the sixth and scored four runs on three singles, an error and two walks. It was their first lead at home since beating the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-0 on May 12. They never had the lead in being swept by the Colorado Rockies — who have the NL’s worst record — from May 13-15 before losing to the Yankees 8-0 and 4-1.

The Padres’ sixth-inning rally began with an error when second baseman Glyber Torres let Jake Cronenworth’s grounder go between his legs. Starter Clarke Schmidt (5-3) walked Manny Machado and made way for Victor González, who loaded the bases with a walk to pinch-hitter Donovan Solano. Jackson Merrill hit into a forceout that brought in Cronenworth, and Ha-Seong Kim’s bunt single brought in Machado for the lead.
