Three Different Pricing Models

• Door-to-Door – a limo driver will pick you up from your front door (as long as you live within 50 miles of the airport) and take you to the airport, and coach flights are included (with upgrades available). Then you will enjoy your cruise, and Silversea will bring you back to your front door.
• Port-to-Port – Here, the fare is lower, and you can arrange your own flights to the ship.
• Essential – You get yourself to the ship, and shore excursions are not included.

You won't find waterslides, kids clubs or roller coasters on a Silversea cruise.

Instead, expect an elevated experience designed for those looking for a relaxing yet entertaining sailing. Here are a few key features of Silversea cruises:

Accommodations

Every one of Silversea's cabins has an ocean view, and they're all designated as suites with a high space-to-guest ratio. For guests' needs throughout the cruise, butler service is available in every room.

Some suites are more luxurious — smaller suites only have windows overlooking the ocean, while classic veranda suites and many others come with a balcony.

Some room categories, such as the ultra-luxurious Otium Suite, are exclusive to Silversea's newest ship, Silver Nova. Others are found across the fleet, although accommodations on board each vessel may differ slightly.

All-inclusive sailings

Many cruise lines charge their passengers a base fare for the trip, allowing them to choose various add-ons — such as beverages, specialty restaurants, internet access and port excursions — for an additional cost.

Silversea does away with this. It advertises an all-inclusive cruise package, which includes everything from shore excursions and alcoholic drinks to butler service and gratuities.

Primary U.S. ports

Silversea ships span the globe, but travelers that don't want to venture too far from home will find many cruises departing from Fort Lauderdale and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Trips also depart from New York City for destinations in Canada.

Those wishing to depart from the West Coast can set sail from San Francisco or Los Angeles. Ships from these ports travel to the Caribbean, Alaska, Canada and other far-flung destinations.

Where does Silversea sail?

Silversea's destination map is extensive, with over 900 ports on all seven continents. Sailings are at least six days long, but trips can last several weeks to a month or more.

For those with the time and the money, Silversea offers World Cruises that travel from continent to continent in a global adventure that can take as many as 140 days.

How much does a Silversea cruise cost?

Silversea sailings are no discount venture, but the all-inclusive nature of each cruise adds value.

Meals, drinks, entertainment and onboard special events are all part of the price. The rates vary based on demand, destination and time of year.

There are two types of prices: "door-to-door," which includes airport transfers and airfare, or "port-to-port," which is the cruise fare without any transportation to or from the port.

Rates can vary from as low as $2,800 for a seven-day trip from Colombia to Florida to $94,700 for a 125-day expedition cruise from Chile to Norway.

Silversea also offers special fares for single travelers on select excursions, which provides a discount instead of paying the full cost of a double-occupancy cabin.

What is the best Silversea ship?

There are 13 ships in the Silversea fleet — with more scheduled for delivery in the coming years — ranging in size from 51 to 364 cabins. The best ship, however, will depend on the type of sailing you want.

The smallest ships are typically expedition ships that sail itineraries like the Galapagos or Antarctica. For example, the 100-passenger Silver Origin was Silversea's first purpose-built destination ship, built explicitly for cruising in the Galapagos. It is also the most environmentally-friendly ship built by Silversea.

Another small ship is the Silver Explorer, with a capacity for 144 guests and a strengthened hull to sail in Antarctica and the Arctic safely.

On the other end of the spectrum, you have larger ships such as Silver Spirit, which was renovated in 2018. With space for 608 passengers, it spends much of its time sailing around Europe, the Middle East and the Indian Ocean.

Ships like Silver Spirit look more like cruise ships, with amenities that include larger pools, lounges and plentiful dining options. Expedition ships are smaller by nature and therefore have fewer onboard facilities.

The best Silversea ship depends on the type of traveler you are, the destinations you want to visit, and the amenities you desire.

What is the newest Silversea ship?

Silver Nova is Silversea's newest ship, with plans to set sail later this summer. It will also be the largest ship in the Silversea fleet, with space for 728 passengers. Coming in 2024 is a second ship of the same size, the Silver Ray.

These ships feature a new asymmetrical design that gives their interiors a more spacious feel. Additionally, they'll have the largest pools in the Silversea fleet, and every suite will have a balcony.

What's included in a Silversea cruise

As mentioned above, Silversea advertises its cruises as all-inclusive, and compared to many cruise lines , this is pretty accurate. Here's what's included with all Silversea cruises:

24-hour butler service. 

Complimentary beverages, including alcohol, around the ship and in minibars.

Gourmet meals, including room service and specialty restaurants.

Gratuities.

Select shore excursions.

Wi-Fi access.

Onboard lectures and entertainment.

Passengers who opt for the door-to-door all-inclusive option will also receive the following:

Private transfers to and from their home airport.

Airfare to and from the port city, including international flights. 

Transfers between the ship and the airport. 

Overnight hotel stays in the port city on arrival or before returning home, if needed.

A few items are not included in the fare and will incur an additional cost:

Meals or accommodations while on shore. 

Some shore excursions. 

Reservation fees for select restaurants.

Laundry service.

Personal spa or beauty services.

Silversea loyalty program: Venetian Society

Unlike other cruise loyalty programs, Silversea's program — the Venetian Society — does not award points. It doesn't have elite status tiers, either. Instead, members earn "days" based on the length of each sailing. The more days they accrue, the more benefits they can receive.

Here's what Venetian Society members can expect to receive based on the number of days accrued:

All members . By joining the program and completing your first sailing, you're eligible for 5% savings on certain upcoming sailings. This can represent great value on expensive cruises, meaning signing up makes sense even if you only plan to sail occasionally. 

100+ days . 5% savings on all future door-to-door sailings.

250+ days . 10% savings on all future door-to-door sailings.

350 days . Once you reach this level, you are eligible for one complimentary seven-day sailing.

500 days . Reaching this milestone means enjoying a complimentary 14-day trip.

500+ days . After this landmark, members will receive one complimentary seven-day trip for each additional 150 days they sail.

How to redeem Silversea days

The best part about the Venetian Society is that the benefits are cumulative. It's not similar to a points program where once you redeem points, your balance gets lower until you earn more. With Venetian Society, you can take advantage of that perk once you hit the next milestone while enjoying previous bonuses.

For example, once you hit 350 days, you are eligible for a complimentary seven-day voyage. But, you can also take 10% off any door-to-door cruises — a perk you receive after reaching 250 days — you book after that.

Yes. Like most of its onboard amenities, Silversea cruises include basic Wi-Fi free of charge. Those in upper suites will receive free premium Wi-Fi speeds, and other guests can pay for a faster speed package. The prices vary by sailing and ship.

Yes, everything is included in the “port-to-port” fare. Adding airfare and ground transfers is part of the “door-to-door” offering.

Drinks are included in the all-inclusive fare, so no additional drink package is offered.

No, but some destinations may have their requirements. For example, there may be some destinations or embarkation points where unvaccinated travelers must provide a negative covid test, and vaccinated travelers would have to show proof of receiving the vaccine. All requirements and protocols are subject to change.

Maruzzo is the daughter of Antonio and Eugenia Lefebvre D’Ovidio and the beloved sister of Silversea’s Deputy Chairman, Manfredi Lefebvre D’Ovidio. Silversea took delivery Tuesday of Silver Ray, its second Nova Class ship.

Boarding Silver Ray in Eemshaven, Netherlands, on Tuesday, Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean Group’s President and CEO, celebrated the ship’s official handover with Bert Hernandez, President of Silversea; Bernard Meyer, Chairman of the Meyer Group, and Bernd Eikens, the Meyer Group CEO; executives from the Meyer-Werft shipyard and Royal Caribbean Group; and Capt. Alessandro Zanello. Attendees participated in storied maritime traditions, including flag-changing and signing ceremonies, commemorative speeches, and a celebratory toast. 

Silver Ray, Silversea’s second Nova Class ship, debuts on its maiden voyage in June from Civitavecchia (the Port of Rome) and will build on the momentum of Silver Nova , launched in 2023. Silver Ray mirrors its acclaimed predecessor, carrying 728 passengers and 544 crew and measuring 54,700 GRT, or Gross Registered Tonnage, which indicates space in the ship. This creates a seamless experience because the groundbreaking layout and new features will be the same for both Nova Class ships.

Silver Ray is a continuation of a legacy in ultra-luxury voyages as the 12 th ship in the Silversea fleet. Silver Ray is the second Silversea vessel to be constructed at Germany’s Meyer-Werft shipyard. (Silver Nova’s float-out took place in May 2023 and it made its first passenger voyage in August of that year .)

Innovation continues on Silver Ray

Beginning with its basic structure, the difference in the Nova Class starts with its steel frame. When it made its debut, Silver Nova (and now Silver Ray) are the largest and most spacious of the Silversea fleet.

This breakthrough in layout means more space to accommodate plush lounges and extraordinary bars and restaurants.

Silversea pairs the ships’ contemporary aesthetic with additional open-air spaces, creating Silversea’s connection between the ship and guests’ surroundings both indoors and on deck. The design difference on both ships extends to their all-balcony suites, which include some of the best views on any vessel.

Two new buzzwords in design for Silversea

As the second of its Nova Class ships, Silver Ray, along with Silver Nova, is unique for Silversea in that its design is horizontal rather than vertical (in which all suites are located forward while public rooms are toward the aft). The benefit with a horizontal layout is that the designers ensure that public room decks feature higher ceilings for a more spacious ambience and a better guest flow.

And, conversely, on Ray and Nova, all suites are grouped together on four different decks. The advantage here is that, with suites stretch from forward to aft Silversea is offering more variety in layouts. For instance, an entirely new category of suites is built around the ship’s aft section, and feature great wake views.

Bringing key structural elements toward the inside of the ship also allows  more seamless integration between the outside  elements and the ship’s interior. Floor-to-ceiling glass will form many of the structural but see-through “barriers” around the decks, which means unimpeded views.

Enhanced technology has eliminated noise and vibrations from the engine room on Nova Class vessels, allowing latitude in the placement of suites and public spaces.

Dazzling public spaces

Silver Ray has an impressive 1,400-square-foot pool area. Nova Class pools are the largest in the fleet. Also on the outer decks are an infinity-style Cliff Whirlpool on Deck 11 and the Dusk Bar, a new venue that debuted on Silver Nova, one deck below.

The Shelter, an intimate, evening-only bar with a capacity of 32, is new to the Nova Class and is part of Silver Ray as well. This Deck 3 venue is ideal for a pre-dinner drink or a nightcap, opening to the Atrium with premium surf-and-turf restaurant  Atlantide and the immersive  S.A.L.T. Kitchen featuring regional cuisine, on either side.

The Venetian Lounge can accommodate 370 guests, who can listen to lectures or attend performances in this two-story space. The larger S.A.L.T. Lab  and  S.A.L.T. Bar  have been relocated from their midship position on other Silversea ships to Deck 10 for views that integrate the outside into the spaces.

On Silver Ray, the  Otium Spa (a spa concept that debuted in spring 2022 onboard Silver Dawn and is also found on Silver Nova) will also feature a sprawling thermal suite inspired by the ancient baths of Rome. Guests will find a steam room, sauna, decorative water fountain and floor-to-ceiling windows. These Otium Spas contain a spa-centric indoor pool. 

Inventive suites

Silver Ray has 13 suite categories that contain a choice of 364 suites. The ship’s interior design highlights premium, residential touches, including decorative lighting, fluted mirrors and plush furniture. The concept is described as “whispered luxury.”

The crown jewel of any Silversea suite at sea are the  Otium Suites , a new category that has eye-catching “walls of windows” offering a 270-degree view. Again, the ship’s design allows this unique space at the aft starboard corner. Guests in Otium Suites, at 1,324 square feet, will be treated to a large living room as well as premium amenities.

Master Suites , also a new concept aboard the Nova Class, offer accommodations of 721 to 826 square feet and have balconies that wrap around the back of the ship and bathrooms that offer views to the outside.  Medallion Suites  are 50 percent wider than a standard veranda suite and have a larger balcony.

Re-imagined dining concepts

Five decks’ worth of restaurants, bars and entertainment spaces create a lively hub on Silver Ray. Ten bars and lounges along with eight distinct dining venues create a bounty of choices. These venues are spread across the ship, allowing easier social connections in a more open-concept floor plan.

Returning restaurant concepts include Atlantide and S.A.L.T. Kitchen, along with  design concepts new to the Nova Class , including the  Marquee . This light-filled space on Deck 10 incorporates the existing Grill and Spaccanapoli authentic pizzeria into one casual but elegant dining venue. 

Specialty dining favorites Kaiseki and  La Dame  are more luxe than ever. Wine plays an important role at La Dame, where exclusive pairings will be offered.

On Silver Ray, art remains at the heart

Exclusive artwork will be the primary element that distinguishes Silver Ray from Silver Nova.

Like Silver Nova , Silver Ray will carry more than 1,700 pieces of artwork onboard, in various media that might include sculpture, collage, photography and tapestry. Expect antique maps and a unique muraled ceiling in the library that beckons passengers to look up and revel in the piece painted specifically for this spot.

Silver Ray’s on-board dress code

During the day, guests can don casual wear similar to five-star resort sportswear. The revision to the dress code also notes that guests should wear flats or low heels on deck.

After 6 p.m., elegant casual is the expectation. Women may wear slacks (or skirts) and blouses or an informal dress. Men may wear a collared shirt and slacks, but a jacket is optional. If you would like to wear dressier garb, you are welcome to do that. Note that on formal-optional nights, men must wear a jacket indoors. 

Based on the length of the cruise, you might not need formal attire. A seven-day cruise is elegant casual every evening, unless you wish to go dressier. An eight- to 14-day cruise has one or two formal optional nights, and a cruise of 15 days or more will have at least two formal optional nights.

What’s next for Ray

Silver Ray will spend its inaugural season in the Mediterranean , sailing summer voyages to Portugal, Spain, Italy, France and Greece.

Silver Ray itineraries are scheduled through winter 2026. Silversea’s newest ship will spend its first two summers (2024 and 2025) in the Mediterranean. Choose from a selection of itineraries of a week, 11 days or 16 days.

By winter ’24/’25 Silver Ray will reposition to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and sail a series of South America voyages to ports including Lima (Callao), Peru; Cartagena, Colombia; Panama City (Fuerte Amador), Panama; and Buenos Aires, Argentina.

After another summer in the Med, Silver Ray will embark on a 13-day transoceanic sailing from Lisbon, Portugal, to Fort Lauderdale in November 2025.

Back in Florida, Silver Ray is scheduled on a series of Caribbean and Central American cruises through March 2026. These 10-day to two-week itineraries include calls on St. Kitts and Nevis; the U.S. Virgin Islands; Antigua and Barbuda; the Turks and Caicos; and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Meyer Werft delivers Silversea's newest NOVA-class ship Silver Ray

Silversea has reaffirmed its dedication to premier ultra-luxury and expedition travel with the delivery of Silver Ray ship , the second vessel in its pioneering NOVA Class.

On Tuesday, May 14, in Eemshaven (Netherlands) , Jason Liberty ( Royal Caribbean Group/RCG ’s president and CEO) officiated the ship’s handover ceremony alongside Bert Hernandez (president of Silversea); Bernard Meyer (Chairman of the Meyer Group), Bernd Eikens (CEO of the Meyer Group), as well as executives from the Meyer Werft Papenburg shipyard and RCG; and the ship's Master (Captain Alessandro Zanello). The ceremony included traditional maritime practices such as the flag-changing and signing ceremonies, commemorative speeches, and a celebratory toast.

The Nova Class represents a significant evolution in luxury maritime design, featuring an asymmetrical structure and 4000 m2 of exterior glass, providing an unprecedented connection to the sea. Silver Ray, joining the sistership Silver Nova , stands among the most energy-efficient vessels in the ultra-luxury and expedition segments, a testament to RCG's commitment to reducing emissions and carbon intensity .

Silver Ray is set to embark on her maiden voyage from Lisbon (Portugal) on June 15th, with her inaugural season in the Mediterranean, before crossing to the Americas in December 2024. The Nova Class's innovative architecture offers guests immersive views from nearly all venues and suites, complemented by reimagined pool decks and new outdoor venues such as the Dusk Bar and the Marquee.

Boasting a space-to-guest ratio of 75 GRT-per-guest, Silver Nova and Silver Ray are among the most spacious cruise ships ever built. They deliver highly personalized service with a crew-to-guest ratio of 1:1.3, including butler service for all suites. Enhancing the onboard experience are the extensive selection of bars, restaurants, and lounges, the Roman-inspired wellness program Otium, and the Sea and Land Taste (S.A.L.T.) culinary program.

Silver Ray's journey from the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg included a 4 0km conveyance down the River Ems and successful technical and nautical sea trials in the North Sea on May 8, overseen by Captain Alessandro Zanello and expert local pilots.

Russia adapted to the game-changing HIMARS, but Ukraine's new Storm Shadow missiles could put the fear back into its commanders, warfare experts say

• The UK recently outfitted Ukraine with its Storm Shadow long-range cruise missiles.
• This new strike capability puts Russian positions far behind the front lines within Ukraine's reach. 
• Experts say Russian commanders are now facing logistical headaches and a renewed sense of fear.

Ukraine's military just got its hands on Storm Shadow missiles from the UK, and it is already making good use of the newly acquired weapon that significantly boosts Kyiv's long-range strike capabilities.

Russian forces have already started adapting to game-changing weapons that Ukraine introduced into the war last year, like the US-provided High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) firing the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS). Warfare experts say Storm Shadow missiles could spark new logistical headaches for Russia, giving Kyiv a massive capability to put the fear back into Moscow's commanders who thought they were safe and out of reach. 

"It's going to have a terrible effect on morale for the Russian forces, and officers and commanders who are going to be operating within Ukraine," George Barros, a Russia analyst at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), a Washington-based think tank, told Insider. 

The UK announced earlier this month plans to provide Ukraine with the Storm Shadow, an air-launched cruise missile developed in partnership with France that has seen combat experience in various conflicts across the Middle East. When released from an aircraft, these missiles drop to fly at a low altitude and avoid detection. 

Kyiv has long pushed its Western partners for extended-range missiles and munitions able to strike Russian positions behind the front liens and deep inside the occupied territories of eastern and southern Ukraine, but the US and its NATO allies, worried that the weapons will provoke an escalatory response from Moscow, have largely been reluctant to do so, until now.

With an operational range of 155 miles, Storm Shadow will more than triple the distance for Ukraine's long-range strike capabilities. The much-celebrated HIMARS multiple-launch rocket system that Kyiv obtained from the US last summer can only hit targets up to 50 miles away with GMLRS. With the Storm Shadow, Russian-occupied territory that was previously out of Ukraine's reach is now in range of its weapons. 

UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace told reporters on Thursday that he understands Storm Shadow missiles have been used since they were sent to Ukraine, but he declined to go into any further details. A recent strike in the eastern Luhansk region has reportedly been linked to the new missiles. 

It's going to 'degrade' Russia's war effort

Since the early weeks of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and even now, the Kremlin's forces have relied on a tactic of carrying out massive artillery barrages to destroy Ukrainian positions and then advancing through the rubble. When this wasn't possible, they sent human waves into urban environments to make territorial gains at high costs. 

When the HIMARS arrived in Ukraine nearly a year ago, they quickly became highly revered among Kyiv's forces. These truck-mounted and highly mobile systems were used to carry out precision strikes targeting Russian command posts, ammunition depots, and bridges and have been hailed by experts as a "game-changing" weapon.

Ukraine used the HIMARS to degrade the effectiveness of Russia's battlefield tactic, which depended heavily on Moscow's ability to stage massive amounts of artillery shells near the front line to sustain a high rate of fire, Barros, the ISW analyst, said. To mitigate their new problem, Russian forces had to move their ammunition back outside the range of the HIMARS to prevent it from being destroyed.

Russia has also shifted key logistics hubs deep behind the front lines, relocated command and control to hardened structures in the rear, and reorganized air defense systems, Jack Watling, senior research fellow for land warfare at the London-based Royal United Services Institute, wrote in a recent analysis on the potential impact of Storm Shadow. 

Introducing Storm Shadow to the battlefield will resolve "serious tactical challenges" that Ukraine currently faces, Watling wrote. Its warhead is designed to penetrate hardened targets and its stealth features will help it avoid detection and interception. 

Barros said the implication is that Russia's tactic "will be reduced even further" because it will require the Russians to undertake even more stringent sustainment and protection measures to avoid the missile's long range. This means pushing ammunition depots and command and control efforts even deeper into occupied territory and away from the front lines. 

"It's just going to degrade the overall Russian war effort," Barros said. "The Ukrainians are very capable of making the Russians pay."

'Afraid for their personal safety'

Beyond forcing the Russians to once again try to figure out how to protect key positions from a long-range strike capability, Ukraine could use its Storm Shadow missiles to instill a fresh sense of fear into Moscow's commanders who previously thought they were out of range. 

Higher-ranking Russian military officials like officers and commanders hanging out deep in Ukraine's occupied territory might have previously enjoyed a feeling of safety knowing that they were far from the front lines and beyond the reach of Kyiv's existing firepower range. 

But in the blink of an eye, Russian commanders now understand that Ukraine has the potential capacity to deliver a warhead right to their location, Barros said. Needless to say, the Storm Shadow development poses a threat to these commanders, especially because Ukraine has already proven that it's quite capable of eliminating them, thanks in part to Moscow's poor command and control practices. 

"So the more that these Russian commanders are exposed to Ukrainian fires, I expect their survivability to decrease," Barros said. 

Watling, meanwhile, noted that making Russian commanders "afraid for their personal safety" is an effective way to degrade their battlefield decision-making and priorities. 

"Employed well, in conjunction with psychological operations and other capabilities, Storm Shadow offers myriad opportunities to cognitively attack the enemy," he said. "In this sense, their existence in Ukraine's arsenal may be as significant as their use."

The delivery of Storm Shadow missiles to Ukraine comes as the country gears up for its highly anticipated counteroffensive , which is expected to be aimed at liberating occupied territory in the eastern and southern regions. While there are speculations over when the offensive will actually begin, Kyiv's forces have enjoyed some recent territorial gains through counterattacks around the war-torn city of Bakhmut, where intense and brutal fighting has raged for months. 

The recent delivery of Storm Shadow missiles calls into question whether the Biden administration will provide Ukraine with surface-to-surface Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS), a much-sought-after weapon that has an impressive range of nearly 200 miles and can be launched from Kyiv's existing force of HIMARS.

Should the US eventually send ATACMS, it would not be the first time that Washington has moved to outfit Ukraine with notable military aid following the footsteps of European partners. Britain confirmed earlier this year that it would send Kyiv its Challenger main battle tanks , paving the way for Germany and the Biden administration to eventually do the same with Leopard and American M1 Abrams tanks.
