Telangana plans tribal eco-tourism circuit

WARANGAL :  Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) with financial assistance from the union government has planned to develop a ‘Tribal Eco-tourism Circuit’ connecting seven locations in Warangal and Khammam districts, reports The Hans India.

It is planned to connect Mulugu- Gattamma Temple area, Laknavaram Lake, Medaram Gaddelu, Tadvai forest area, Damaravai Megalithic structures and Mallur Temple in Warangal district. The scenic Bogatha waterfalls situated near Cheekupally village of Wazedu mandal of Khammam district is also a part of the circuit.

Though the above places are known among the people, who visit them on special occasions, there is no specific promotion activity so far to promote tourism. For instance Damaravai megalithic structures, Mallur temple and Bogatha waterfalls though in existence for long, are not known much among vacationers.

Bogatha waterfalls, located about 25 km from Eturunagaram of Warangal district has got tremendous tourism potential. It has become popular only during the past couple of years with expansion of NH 202 and construction of high level bridge across river Godavari recently.

With the proposed eco-tourism project these places are expected to witness a makeover. The TSTDC chairman, Pervaram Ramulu, on Sunday, informed that the Centre has sanctioned Rs 84.40 crore under Swadeshi Darshan Scheme and Rs 16.88 crore have already been released.

In addition to this Tribal Circuit, it is planned to construct a world class spiritual and meditation centre in Ramappa Island at historic Ramappa Temple near Palempet in Warangal district in Telangana. Construction of new cottages is also planned and the cost of the project is Rs 3.20 crore, he added.

TSTDC divisional manager K Nathanu told The Hans India that gazebos, log huts, solar lighting, cottages, landscaping and quality restaurants will come up at all the above places. At Mallur and Tadvai it is planned to set up trekking paths.

Tribal multi – product display centres will come up at Laknavaram, Medaram, Tadavai, Damaravai and at Bogatha waterfalls. A Dolmen Culture Interpretation Centre is planned to be established at Damaravai.
