Guest post by Sydney of Routeprints .

One month in India may seem like a stretch but once you set foot in the country, you’ll know that the sheer size of the country demands more than four weeks of your time to unfold. There is something about the mystical lands of Ladakh, the spine-chilling natural beauty of Meghalaya, architectural brilliance of Jaipur, heritage walks of Delhi and chaos of Mumbai. We bet India is unlike any other country that you’ve ever visited. You will be shell-shocked with unique smells to noises, colorful bazaars to lip-smacking street food and vibrant narrow streets to six-lane highways. In one month, you will be able to cover most of the prominent cities and spots in the country but there will still be those unexplored hidden gems that’ll be out of your reach in that time frame.

To make your India itinerary a bit more organized, Routeprints curated a hands-on itinerary that covers the North-South-East and West of India. If followed strictly, this exhaustive itinerary will take you the world-famous and lesser-known but magnificent cities of India. We bet you’ll end up booking left and right by the time you finish reading this blog.

When to Visit India

India is a vast country with climatic conditions changing every time you cross borders between the states. Northern India has biting cold winter season from November to February while Southern India experiences chilly sea breeze with pleasant weather for most parts of the day. Southern India braves heavy rainfall from May to October, making it an extremely bad choice for traveling. These months are hot and dry in central, western and North of India but you can still enjoy pleasant evenings without any rainchecks. So, what time you should travel to India essentially depends on which part of the country you’re planning to visit.

Where to stay during your 1 Month India Itinerary

The accommodation is fairly cheap in India. Aside from uber-luxury properties like Oberoi Udaivilas, Udaipur or Trident, Gurgaon and backpacker-friendly hostels like The Madpacker or Zostel; all the 3 and 4-star properties are priced anywhere between $30 to $150. In more artsy and heritage cities like Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Goa; you can be spoilt for choice with luxurious Bed & Breakfast, Villas, Airbnbs and Homestays available at affordable prices. When in India, accommodation will never be a problem for you.

How to Commute within India

Indian Railways network has the largest connectivity between the length and breadth of the country which covers nearly all the important travel destinations. Although cheap, the 3 AC or 2AC tickets will cost an amount equal to a short-haul flight. For the sake of experience, hop on a luxury train but for convenience; take the cheaper flights leaving from all the major airports. Road transportation is improving increasingly in India. You have the liberty to rent a self-drive car with Zoom Car or hire a driver with an AC car to take you through road trips. The roads are bumpy with less than the expected number of decent pit stop choices. So do that one on your own risk.

1 Month Indian Itinerary

You can start your India itinerary from just about any of the four metro cities setting them up as your base and taking short-haul flights or over-night train or bus journeys to visit the nearby cities. For instance, you can start from Delhi and complete the Golden Triangle including Agra, Jaipur, and Amritsar or begin from Mumbai which is in proximity to world-famous sights of Goa, Gokarna, Matheran, and Pune.

Delhi (4 days)

Delhi is all things you’ve read about it in the travel guides and more. If you successfully brave through the odds of Delhi then you are guaranteed to have a blissful time in the other states. The city is chaotic, congested, polluted and mostly a whirlwind for the tourists. Start your 4-day journey in Delhi with sightseeing the Red Fort, Jama Masjid, India Gate and so much more.

Ream more: Things to do in Delhi written by a local

Agra (1 day)

Agra is barely 4-hours drive or train from Delhi that can be done and dusted in one day. Lose yourself in the mighty white marbled walls of the Taj Mahal and take a dip into the historic significance of the tomb that stands as the pride of the nation.

Amritsar (1 day)

The Golden Triangle is incomplete without a trip to the holy city of Amritsar. The Golden Temple crafted out of real gold attracts national and foreign tourists from across the world. Besides the temple, it is the sheer brilliance of local food stalls and restaurants in the city that will amaze you.

Varanasi (2 days)

Touted to be the holiest city of India, Varanasi falls right on the banks of River Ganges. This is the place Indians wash off their sins with a dip in the holy river and also perform final funerals of their loved ones. To experience the best of this mega-touristy city, take the morning boat tour of Ganges River or a walking tour of the Ghats that are seemingly overwhelming for most people. Don’t forget to feast on famous Blue Lassi and attend the blissful evening Maha Aarti by the Ghats.

Jaipur (2 days) – Pushkar/Ajmer

Jaipur is bursting at the seams with UNESCO World Heritage Sights, upmarket cafes, thumping night clubs and rich cultural history that are all linked by the Pink Walls. Being the most-photographed city in India, Jaipur is seemingly impressive. Spend your days soaking up the sun as you stroll through Amber Fort, Nahargarh Fort, Jal Mahal, and Hawa Mahal. Spend a cheerful evening at the famous Chowki Dhani resort for a quick overview of the Rajasthani culture.

If you’re feeling too energetic, take a day trip to Ajmer Sharif Dargah which is a two-hour drive from Jaipur. Pushkar is both, laidback and holy at the same time. You look up to rooftop cafes playing psychedelic music with neon lights while the Pandits perform holy Aarti down by the Ghats of river Ganges. The shocking contrast will capture you by the heart.

Udaipur (2 days)

The most beautiful and bustling city in Rajasthan has to be the famous destination wedding center Udaipur. Home to the most luxurious hotels and restaurants in India, Te White City of India attracts travelers with its opulent palaces, serene lakes and chill rooftop cafes. In Udaipur, you have to watch the sunset over some English tea and your favorite book sitting by a café near Lake Pichola. When in Udaipur go all dreamy-eyed staring outside the windows of city palace, watch the sunrise from Karni Mata temple and hog on unlimited food thali at The Namaste Café.

Jaisalmer (2 days)

Jaisalmer is unlike any desert city that you’ve been too. Endless stretches of brown sand, clear blue skies with camel riders and camp setups make the Golden City a perfect fairytale holiday destination. The relentless dunes are best treaded on camel backs during the day and nights can be concluded with stargazing and bonfire in the middle of the desert. The Night Safari is quite the experience you should opt for in Jaisalmer.

Mumbai (2 days)

The city of entertainment and dreams is busier than the bee. The dirty, loud and bustling city of Mumbai is like every other metro city in India, minus the Bollywood star presence on roads. In Mumbai, sip a cup of chai by Juhu Beach, hog on Vada Pav at Chowpatty and get a few pictures by the Gate of India. Do not expect to see too much in the overwhelming and clawing city of Mumbai. Keep it as the base for your further travels in India.

Goa (3 days)

All the stories about notorious drugging, psychedelic trance parties, raves and hippie trails in Goa are true. You can either party the nights away at North Goa clubs and open bars or relax and unwind at the natural spas and herbal baths in South Goa. Baga, Candolim and Calangute beaches are good for late-night Indian food cravings and shisha chill but Palolem and Ashvem beaches in South Goa are quieter, calmer and more laidback than anything you’ve ever seen in India. In three days, you can sip cocktails at posh cafes overlooking the Bay of Bengal, savor delightful coconut water by the roadside or get your hair braided on the beach. We best believe that you choose your experience in Goa.

One month India itinerary featured by top travel blog, The Common Traveler. boat on beach in Goa

Gokarna and Hampi (3 days)

Slightly less-touristy than Goa, Gokarna is only an overnight bus journey from Goa. Often known as the backpacker’s haven, Gokarna has gained privileged status with much cleaner and quieter beaches than Goa. Enjoy affordable massages, beach camping, bonfire, stays at beach shacks and comfortable bike rides through palm tree-laden roads of this beautiful city in Karnataka.

Hampi is a break from all the partying and chilling in Goa and Gokarna. Here you will get to see the oldest and most treasured fortunes of the ancient civilizations of India. The spellbinding architectural beauty of the ancient ruins and intricate craftsmanship of the local handicraft makers will leave you gasping for breath.

Mysore (2 days)

A cultural ballpark and home to the old colonial architectural brilliance of Karnataka, Mysore is quiet the travel destination for you all. You cannot go back home without spending a day in the bustling but equally simple city of Mysore. Start your day with a stroll around the Mysore Palace as you soak upon historical knowledge of the glorious past of India. End the night with delectable local cuisine. Enjoy sightseeing at Chamundeshwari Temple as you climb the Chamundi Hills for that breathtaking view of the city.

Coorg (2 days)

The Coffee Estate of the South, Coorg is one magical experience that is straight out of a fairytale and one of the best hill stations near Bangalore . If rice fields of Bali have fascinated you for long then a trip to Coorg is a must. Jeep Safari, mountain climbing, trekking through endless stretches of greens and dips in hidden waterfalls are some of the experiences waiting for you in Coorg. Besides world-best coffee, you can also sip on local wine and flavorsome Tibetan food. Bathe elephants, experience Tibetan culture and camp in the jungles by the riverside in your two-day halt in Coorg.

One month India itinerary featured by top travel blog, The Common Traveler. wooden platform with view of woods in Coorg

Alleppey (2 days)

Take a break from all the madness, start your calm-trip with a backwaters cruise in Alleppey. The best way to get a taste of the culture is to book 2 days complete package in the famous houseboats of Alleppey. The Backwaters of Kerala are adorned with palm trees, the local village produces and sounds of water flowing through the canals, lagoons, rivers, and lakes. Besides, you can spend a day exploring the city’s Mullakkal Temple and a relaxing evening at the Alappuzha Beach.

Chennai (2 days)

The ‘Dosa City’ of Tamil Nadu is just like any other metro city in India. It is busy, dirty, extremely loud and overtly touristy. After all the natural beauty you’ve soaked up in Karnataka and Kerala, it’ll be hard to come back to city life in Chennai. Nonetheless, the city has renowned religious temples, some of the best museums, cultural hotspots and delectable roadside South-Indian food joints to keep you occupied. You can spend your days visiting the Kapaleeshwar Temple, St Thomas Basilica, Ramanujan Temple and enjoy the sunset by Marina Beach.

Pondicherry (2 days)

Part India and part French, Puducherry is still a mystical place for most Indian travelers. When in Pondicherry, you will be surprised by the sheer mix of people from around the world living a life of meaning in the Auroville Ashram. Pondy is an amalgamation of conventional Indian style and French sophistication and architecture. Do not be surprised when you are served a delicious croissant and filter Kapi by the roadside stalls in crowded bazaars. Take a day-bus to Chennai Airport to catch your flight back home.

Our itinerary covers most of the major attractions but there is still a large chunk on North and North-Eastern India should be traveled to. The exotic flora and fauna, stunning waterfalls, mystical beauty of North Eastern states like Sikkim, Darjeeling, Meghalaya, and Cherrapunji will fill your senses with tranquillity. The North of India is yet another adventurous trip ideal for backpackers with a zest for adrenaline-pumping activities. You can go on exploring the majestic Ladakh , Himachal Pradesh , and Uttarakhand on a two-week trip but force-fitting all those places in this itinerary would be criminal.

India is not for the faint-hearted. During your India itinerary, you will have to constantly deal with unwanted stares, scamming, rather regressive travel guides and pollution. But once here, you will fall in love with a sheer zest for life that Indians have. Your journey will be a combination of nirvana highs and sob-fest lows but we promise, you’ll never have a dull moment when in India.

  • India Itineraries 2024: from 5 Days to 1 Month

India is an expansive destination with colorful culture, splendid palaces and temples, mountains and deserts, Bollywood, and beaches…

But, how to arrange an itinerary to suit your needs and make the most of your holiday in India? How many days do you need in India? Here are some suggestions for shaping your India itinerary based on our extensive trip planning experience.

How Long to Spend in India

India itinerary: 5–7 days, india itinerary: 8–10 days, india itinerary: 2 weeks, india itinerary: 3 weeks, india itinerary: 1 month or more, how to get around india.

Most people spend 7 to 14 days in India.

For first timers , this almost invariably includes the classic route visiting Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur (India's "golden triangle"), which usually takes about 7 days.

Many couple's or family trips spend 10–14 days in India for a more relaxed pace and time for unique, fun experiences like a tiger safari. They often visit Rajasthan (5–7 days), which is known for its tiger safaris, deserts, and culture; Mumbai (2–3 days), which is famous for Bollywood; and Goa (3–5 days), a wonderful beach destination.

If you are interested in the tropical views of south India , Kerala (5–10 days) is a good choice.

For people who want to try some off-the-beaten-path routes , or for second-time travelers, regions further north (3–7 days) like Shimla, Leh, and Amritsar are good choices, which feature religion, culture, and the northwest Himalayan foothills (5–7 days).

A week is ideal for a basic India trip that covers the three most popular cities of Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur — the golden triangle route .

  • Days 1–2: Delhi
  • Days 3–4: Agra
  • Days 5–6: Jaipur
  • Day 7: Back to Delhi

Delhi, being the capital city, is usually the starting point for an India trip. There you can easily have a summative first impression of India by visiting its historical and religious landmarks and local markets.

Agra is where the Taj Mahal is — a must-see for anyone who comes to India for the first time.

Jaipur, the famous "pink city", is best-known for its elegant architecture like the famous "Palace of Wind" (Hawa Mahal). If you don't have enough time for Jaipur, then visit Delhi and Agra — capital city and Taj Mahal — the absolute highlights, which takes about 5 days.

Discover real reviews of Highlights Travel Family 's best-rated service across trusted platforms.

8–10 days is a good amount of time to allow you to add one more place onto the golden triangle route to discover a more distinctive side of India.

If you are interested in India's religious atmosphere, you could consider adding Varanasi.

If you are interested in nature or exciting experiences, then Ranthambore, which is best for tiger safaris, is recommended.

Golden Triangle + Varanasi

Some say Varanasi is the place that best represents India.

There you can observe the evening Arti (light offering) rituals, enjoy a morning boat ride on the Ganges, and explore the significance of the Ganges River to Indian people.

  • Days 1–2: Delhi sightseeing
  • Days 3–4: Fly to Varanasi; Varanasi sightseeing; fly to Jaipur
  • Days 5–6: Jaipur sightseeing; drive to Agra
  • Days 7–8: Agra sightseeing; drive back to Delhi
  • Day 9: Delhi departure

Golden Triangle + Tiger Safari

India's tiger safaris are unique experiences, and Ranthambore National Park is one of the best places to traverse mesmerizing jungles in search of the elusive Bengal tiger, as well as bears, leopards, etc.

The best times for a tiger safari are from October to June (outside the wet season). Here is a suggested itinerary:

  • Days 3–4: Drive from Delhi to Agra; Agra sightseeing
  • Days 5–6: Drive from Agra to Ranthambore; Ranthambore jeep safari
  • Days 7–8: Drive to Jaipur, Jaipur sightseeing
  • Day 9: Drive back to Delhi

Read further about 9-day itineraries  and 10-day options in India.

With a 2-week allocation for travel, you could explore deep into the western deserts of Rajasthan (or do more than one of the ideas above).

Rajasthan is one of the most visited states in India due to its incredible arid landscape, multitude of royal palaces and forts, and unique desert culture.

Many famous cities are found in Rajasthan, like "the pink city" — Jaipur, "the blue city" — Jodhpur, and "the desert city" — Jaisalmer.

Firstly, start from Delhi and go to Agra for the Taj Mahal. Then set out into the desert-world of Rajasthan.

You are recommended to experience a heritage hotel in Jaipur, enjoy a camel safari in Jaisalmer, explore the blue buildings of Jodhpur, and enjoy a boat ride on romantic Lake Pichola in Udaipur.

  • Days 3–4: Agra highlights
  • Day 5: Jaipur sightseeing and cooking class experience
  • Days 6–7: Bikaner sightseeing with a heritage hotel experience
  • Days 8–9: Jaisalmer exploration with a camel safari
  • Days 10–11: Jodhpur sightseeing
  • Days 12–13: Udaipur tour with a boat ride experience
  • Day 14: Back to Delhi

Rajasthan also offers some unique experiences for couples , like having a romantic dinner in a royal palace and experiencing Indian dating . If you are planning an anniversary trip, check out our 2-Week Luxury India Tour .

If you have slightly less than 2 weeks , but still want to explore another side of India, see our 12-Day Family Holiday in India and 11-Day India Highlights and Goa Honeymoon Trip for inspiration.

You can also contact us to create your own personalized trip based on your interests, budget, group size, etc.

If you have 3 weeks in India, you could experience seemingly different "worlds" between the different regions of India .

You could spend a week to explore the golden triangle (Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur) for the most iconic experiences, such as watching a sunset over the Taj Mahal.

Spend a second week exploring the west in Rajasthan , where you could experience a heritage hotel, a camel ride, a tiger safari, and splendid forts.

A further week could be used for another startling contrast, exploring south India , as you relax amid tropical views and beaches in Kerala or Goa.

Just contact us if you have any questions or requirements.

If you have 1 month, 2 months, or more, you are recommended to explore further north , which is full of more remote areas where you can discover India's religions and culture as well as awesome Himalayan scenery, such as in Leh, Shimla, and Amritsar

Or you could go further south to visit some less-well-known World Heritage sites and discover the mysterious side of ancient India.

Here are some inspirational ideas:

  • 7-Day Off the Beaten Path South India Tour : Explore India's oldest caves, ruins, and temples (culture & history)
  • 12-Day Historical and Idyllic South India Tour : UNESCO World Heritage sites, temples and palaces, boat safari, private beach (culture & nature)
  • 10-Day North India Tour (Delhi to Shimla) : See the northwest frontier of India and the past of British India (history & culture)

Flying is the fastest way to travel between the major cities, like from Delhi to Mumbai, or Mumbai to Goa.

For traveling between nearby cities, like Delhi to Agra , or Agra to Jaipur , a private vehicle is the best option.

Though there are many options using trains and buses, considering the inflexibility and discomfort of the trip, as well as the time-consuming business of getting between the stations and attractions or hotels, a private car/taxi is much more efficient and relaxing.

If you want to experience India's train travel , you should check out our 7-Day Maharajas' Express Luxury Train Tour , which features a luxury and more comfortable train environment.

1 Month North India Itinerary! 4 Unique India Itineraries For 1 Month!

Categories Asia , India , Itinerary

One month in India is a pretty good amount of time to spend in India. I spent one month travelling from Mumbai to Delhi via Rajasthan and I felt like I had been in India for ages when I arrived in Delhi one month later!

Based on my time backpacking India extensively I wanted to write this blog post to give you a few options for a 1 month India Itinerary, which you can adapt if you have 3 weeks in India or 5 weeks in India .

My plan was to write 1 x one month India itinerary but then I realised working out where to visit in India is so hard and there are so many places to visit in India that one India itinerary isn’t enough and it depends what your priorities are.

Do you want to hit up all the popular Cities? Do you want to visit some ‘less visited’ places? Do you want to go to the Desert? Do you want to head into the Mountains?

India has it all and I hope these 4 x 1 month India Itineraries for North India help you decide.

Did you want to visit South India instead? Here’s my 1 Month South India itinerary recommendations , and my 2 week Goa and Kerala itinerary !

India Itinerary 1 Month

India itinerary 1 month

Find What You're Looking For Easily Here!

Best time to visit India

Before we get into this India travel blog, it’s worth thinking about the best time to visit India as the country get’s very hot and wet in the middle of the year. November to March are the best times to visit both North & South India .

South India will be warmer than North India in the winter months of December and January, Delhi and further North actually get cold in these months but are still enjoyable to visit with the right clothing.

Outside these months, you can still visit but you’ll find that the heat and humidity will be much higher, especially as you go further South.

SIM CARD FOR INDIA

I really recommend having a sim card in India as it makes travel in India so much easier! You may have heard that it’s hard to get a sim card in India but you can get a sim card in Delhi Airport, read this post to see how to buy a sim card in Delhi Airport or if you fly in elsewhere 3 ways to buy a sim card in India and you’ll be connected in just a few hours!

WHAT TO WEAR IN INDIA

If you are a woman, here’s what I recommend you pack and wear in India . Technically you can wear what you like in India in most places but to get fewer stares and feel more comfortable, read my post!

DON’T GET SCAMMED IN DELHI

Most people arrive for the first time into Delhi and get scammed within a few hours! Read my Delhi Travel Tips to help you enjoy Delhi, and the best places to stay in Delhi which is so important!

1) Mumbai to Delhi Itinerary – Rajasthan, Golden Triangle & Varanasi!

  • Mumbai – 4 Nights
  • Overnight Train
  • Udaipur – 3 Nights
  • Jodhpur – 2 Nights
  • Jaisalmer – 4 Nights
  • Pushkar – 3 Nights
  • Day Train or Bus
  • Jaipur – 3 Nights
  • Agra – 3 Nights
  • Varanasi – 3 Nights
  • Delhi – 3 Nights

Good things about this India itinerary for 1 month:

This 1 month itinerary for India is going to show you the highlights of Rajasthan mainly with a really great Rajasthan itinerary! Rajasthan is the most popular state to visit in India because it has so much to offer compared to many other states in India where you only visit one, maybe two places in the state.

Visiting Rajasthan in India is also good for first-time travellers to India because from my experience it is very easy to travel. Everywhere is well-connected by trains and buses and once you arrive, all of the popular tourist attractions in Rajasthan are well organised (for India!) and the quality and range of accommodation is good!

It also gets you up to Varanasi which is one of the top must-see places in India . However, by going at the end of your month you’ll be well-prepped in travelling around India and won’t find it as intense as going to Varanasi earlier on in your trip.

BOOKING TRAINS IN INDIA

India is best travelled by train because its the quickest, cheapest and best way of getting to know the country. For an EASY option of booking trains in India use 12GO to search and book trains really easily. If you’ll be in India for awhile, you can use the local booking system, it’s a bit tricker but possible, here’s my post on how to book trains in India as a tourist .

BEST ACCOMMODATION IN INDIA

I always use Booking.com to book my hotels in India and Hostelworld to book my hostels . India has a great range of accommodation with brilliant hostel chains like Moustache, Zostel and Backpacker Panda as well as homestays to luxury hotels.

GUIDED TOURS IN INDIA

Many cities in India are best seen with a guide , even if it’s just a half day tour on your first day . Cities in India are chaotic and complex and what better way to taste the food and get to know the city than with a local. I recommend Get Your Guide & Viator for the best tours in India!

Not so good things about this India itinerary for 1 month:

This itinerary for Rajasthan and beyond is very quick, you will be moving around quite quickly I admit and I wouldn’t blame you for taking one of the places in Rajasthan out to have more time in others.

Rajasthan is also very City heavy . That is why I have given you more time in Jaisalmer so you have time to do a Desert safari and get some peace. It’s also why I recommend going to Pushkar because Pushkar is a town but small and chilled compared to the big cities like Jaipur, Agra, Varanasi and Delhi .

Going to Varanasi at the end also adds on 2 extra overnight journeys and a lot of ground to cover.

2) Delhi to Delhi Itinerary –  Rajasthan, Golden Triangle & the Mountains!

  • Delhi – 3 Nights
  • Jaisalmer – 3 Nights
  • Amritsar – 2 Nights
  • Dharamshala – 4 Nights
  • Manali – 4 Nights
  • Rishikesh – 4 Nights
  • Overnight or Day Train
  • Delhi – 1 Night

The major plus of this India itinerary is that you’re going to see the Mountains in 3 different places (Dharamshala, Manali & Rishikesh)! As well as few cities in Rajasthan, Amritsar in Punjab and of course Agra to see the Taj Mahal !

A lot of first-time travellers to India stick to Rajasthan when travelling around Northern India especially in their first few weeks (I did) and whilst Rajasthan is good, being able to travel to North-West India which is less visited by tourists , see the Mountains and get some fresh air will give you such a different perspective of India!

In my opinion, this 1 month itinerary for India really shows you some of the best places in North India and such a range of places! And it benefits from only 1 overnight train, maybe 2 if you decide to travel from Rishikesh to Agra overnight but this can be done during the day too.

The major con of this itinerary is that it’s fairly weather dependent and hard to plan as there is never a best time to visit India as the weather changes everywhere. For example, I went to Dharamshala and Rishikesh in November, it’s getting into Winter then and whilst the sun was out during the day it was chilly in the evenings , especially in Dharamshala and in Manali it was snowing so I couldn’t go there! Spring & Autumn is nice in Dharamshala, Manali & Rishikesh, so is summer temperature-wise but they do get a monsoon season too so you will need to plan your trip according to the right weather.

This itinerary covers a lot of ground with just a few days in each place however a lot of the travel times are a few hours throughout the day and you can see these places well in just a few days!

Related Post: HOW MUCH IT REALLY COSTS TO BACKPACK NORTHERN INDIA!

3) Mumbai to Calcutta Itinerary – Rajasthan, Golden Triangle & North West!

  • Varanasi – Nights
  • Calcutta – 4 Nights

This India itinerary 1 month is going to take you on an amazing itinerary for North East India ! An area that not many travellers start with or even visit on their first trip to India!

Calcutta is such an interesting City and this 1 month India itinerary not only gives you the chance to see the City of Calcutta but in 4 nights you could also see the Sundarban National Park before leaving which is mainly in Bangladesh but does come into West Bengal too, it’s really unique and different.

While you stay 3 days and 4 nights in Calcutta, you can book some trips to help you discover more about the city

In addition to this, Calcutta is a major airport so you should be able to find good flights leaving Calcutta.

The itinerary also visits 4 major places in Rajasthan as well as Agra and Varanasi, all must-visit places in North India!

The start of the itinerary is pretty good and chilled with just a few hours of travel time during the day between each place. The end gets a bit busier with some overnight journeys at long distances but by now you will be used to travelling in India and a push at the end to reach the East is worth it, I think!

4) Delhi to Mumbai Itinerary – Rajasthan, Golden Triangle and Rishikesh & Varanasi!

  • Rishikesh – 3 Nights
  • Jodhpur – 3 Nights
  • Mumbai – 3 Nights

This is great if you want to see Rajasthan but you also want to get to Rishikesh, Varanasi & Agra as these are must-see destinations in North India !

My friends actually did this 1 month India itinerary whilst in Northern India and afterwards, they definitely felt like they had seen and experienced a lot .

Starting in Delhi is good and a good way to get over any jet lag and having Rishikesh as your second destination will give you an insight into the country that most people don’t get on their first trip to India – the Mountains!

This Delhi to Mumbai in 1 month itinerary is also good if you plan to go to South India after Mumbai as you can easily get an overnight train or bus to Goa.

Although Rishikesh is a good and chilled start to your one month in India, going to Delhi, Varanasi, Agra and then Jaipur in one go is a lot and if you have not been to India before because they are big and busy cities .

My friend messaged me whilst in Jaipur saying ‘it’s so busy in India, we just feel tired!’ but I had to remind her that she started with 4 of the biggest and busiest cities in North India and she had done more overnight journeys than I had and I’d been in India for 6 weeks!

After Jaisalmer, they felt it calmed down a bit but there’s no doubt about it, this itinerary is busy and takes in a lot of cities , luckily they were heading to South India afterwards for a chilled month.

What I would suggest is to take somewhere out , maybe Jaisalmer or Udaipur or instead of going to Jodhpur City, stay in a homestay outside of Jodhpur like I did which is really relaxing. My friends did this after I went as I insisted they did too and they loved it!

Good info! Just one caveat: as far as I'm aware, there is no train from Jaisalmer to Amritsar, you'd have to go back through Delhi.

Good morning

Shubh prabhaat

Good evening

"I'll show you how to navigate the buzzing cities of India, and go beyond to find soul-stirring temples, beautiful mountains and irresistible food."

Travel Director

Navigate the busy streets of Old Delhi on a rickshaw ride

The nation's capital rings to the sounds of car horns, chai stalls and the chatter of its 29 million inhabitants. Shuffle into an open-air rickshaw and ride through the streets of the Old Delhi, admiring traditional Havelis and stopping for a famous mango or pomegranate frozen kulfi to cool off in the summer.

Gaze at the sun-kissed Taj Mahal in Agra

Take a journey to Agra and be stirred by the ultimate symbol of fairy-tale architecture. Inlaid with precious gemstones, this ivory marble palace was originally commissioned by an emperor as a tomb for his wife, standing as a symbol of love and opulence since 1653.

Spot tigers in Ranthambore National Park

Clamber into the back of an open-top safari car and spot leopards, marsh crocodiles, hyenas and Bengal tigers wandering their natural habitat. Sprawling over almost 300km 2 , the Ranthambore National Park is also home to a 10th-century fort, giant banyan trees and many lakes.

Experience royal Rajasthan

Enthralling cities interrupt the inhospitable desert in Rajasthan, India's largest state. Home to around 30 royal palaces including the floating lake palace of Udaipur and the iconic peach palace of Hawa Mahal, you will be swept up by the regal heritage found in this part of India.

Visit one of the Bollywood studios in Mumbai

Take a journey into the metropolis of Mumbai to uncover the prestigious culture of the Indian film industry. Without knowing a word of Hindi or a single Bollywood film, you will be captivated by this passionate industry. Be guided past the homes of megastars and catch a glimpse behind the scenes as the cameras roll.

Our top 5 things to do in India

Let Trafalgar guide your India vacation through a majestic tapestry of landmarks and experience. From the Taj Mahal to the tiger parks of Rajasthan, these are just some of the soul-stirring moments waiting when you travel with us.

National Museum

India vacation tours get under the skin of the country's culture with a trip to the National Museum of New Delhi. Roam the halls and take in elaborate jewellery, ancient manuscripts and traditional miniature paintings on cloth. From the prehistoric to the modern, this expansive Indian museum is a must-visit.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya

The King Shivaji museum, or CSMVS, is a pride of Mumbai showcasing around 50,000 exhibitions within an impressive Indo-gothic building. After taking in archaeology, art and natural history, spend time in the tranquil, flower-filled gardens that contrast the bustle of Mumbai.

City Palace

Taking almost 400 years to be built, the City Palace of Udaipur is an architectural masterpiece beside Lake Pichola. Enter the museum section of the palace complex via the royal courtyard, allowing plenty of time to immerse in the artefacts of India's distant past.

Best museums in India

Step off the streets and find a moment of quiet in a spellbinding museum. Here are just a few of the places we will visit in India to peel back the many layers of culture.

A thin fried bread mentioned in 12th-century Sanskrit scriptures, paratha is part of India's cultural heritage. Try it stuffed with spinach, fenugreek and the cheese of paneer, or take it on its own for lapping up the leftover gravy from a delectable curry.

Varan Bhaat Diva

Popular along the sunny coastline of Goa, Varan Bhaat Diva is Indian comfort food of peas, beans, rice and many spices. Often given to those who are exhausted or sick, you will feel soothed by the warmth and turmeric in this family favorite.

Chicken cafreal

Inspired by the dishes brought from Portugal during colonial times, the herb coated chicken legs of cafreal will cement your infatuation with Indian cuisine. Shallow fried and often served with potato and wedges of citrus fruit, India tour packages aren't complete until cafreal is served.

Best food in India

Despite the many famous dishes that have journeyed far from the lands of India, this country still has culinary delights that will rouse your tastebuds. From warm bread to fragrant curries, we'll guide you through the secrets of this spicy land.

What to pack for India

People packing for a tour

A few good books

The Indian rail network chuffs for 65,000 kilometres around India. A geographically large company with relatively slow transport systems, a few books can keep you entertained between admiring scenery.

Light and modest clothing

Though India does get cooler than most expect, many parts of the year are intensely hot. Pack sheer, light clothing that covers you right to the ankles, wrists and neck so that you can respectfully visit religious sites without sweltering.

Medication for stomach upsets

Though our India group tours will see you largely protected from unsanitary food or water, it is still handy to keep a supply of medication on hand. Charcoal tablets can be taken daily as a preventive measure to ensure any nasties are quickly expelled from your system.

Water purification devices

The purification of water has come a long way in recent years. Make your way to a specialist travel shop to discuss bottles, gadgets and tablets that will ensure you stay hydrated without falling ill.

Wet wipes and hand sanitiser

True to its reputation, India can be a hot and messy place. Pack wet wipes and hand sanitiser to ensure you feel fresh when you're on the go.

Welcome to India’s capital city! Upon arrival you are welcomed with a traditional Indian greeting before being escorted to your hotel.

Day 2 - Akshardham Temple Sightseeing

After a leisurely morning, visit the beautiful Akshardham Temple. Built without steel, it consists of 234 ornately carved pillars, 9 ornate domes, 20 quadrangled shikhars, spectacular Gajendra Pith (plinth of stone elephants) and 20,000 statues of India’s great sadhus, devotees, acharyas and divine personalities. This evening, enjoy a Welcome Dinner at the hotel. (BD)

Day 3 - Old & New Delhi Sightseeing

Take a morning tour of Old Delhi. Your visit includes stops at the Red Fort (Drive-by), Raj Ghat – a memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, Ashoka Pillar and the mile-long Chandni Chowk bazaar. In the afternoon, embark on a tour of New Delhi driving past the Parliament House, the President’s House and India Gate. Later visit Humayun’s Tomb, Qutab Minar and Birla Temple. (B)

Day 4 - Delhi / Agra Sightseeing

This morning drive to Agra, to visit the architecturally marvelous tomb of Emperor Akbar. This afternoon, spend time exploring Agra and the 16th century Agra Fort with its battlements, apartments, gardens and audience halls. The day ends with a visit to the magnificent Taj Mahal, monument to love, where you will witness the warm glow as the sun sets over the monument. (B)

Day 5 - Agra / Fatehpur Sikri / Ranthambhore

Visit the Taj Mahal early this morning as the rays of the rising sun bathe the marble with a divine glow, before departing for Ranthambhore. On the way you will visit the 16th century abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikri, once ruled by Emperor Akbar. This ghost town is remarkably well preserved and presents a perfect synthesis of Muslim, Hindu and Jain architecture. The sculptured columns bear mute testimony to this gallant experiment to unite Hindus and Muslims. Once you arrive in Ranthambhore. Spend the night at your luxury camp. (B)

Day 6 - Ranthambhore Game Reserve

Ranthambhore Game Reserve is one of the few preserves, where the nocturnal camera-shy tigers may be seen in daylight. Almost hunted to extinction by the local royalty and their British overlords, the population of the Bengal tiger is slowly increasing, thanks to the efforts of “Project Tiger” and the World Wildlife Fund. You’ll take thrilling game drives in the morning and evening to scour the jungle for wildlife. (B)

Day 7 - Ranthambhore / Jaipur

Start off your day with a morning game drive. After, leave for the “Pink City” of Jaipur, where the old city is surrounded by a massive wall pierced by magnificent gates. (B)

Day 10 - Ranakpur Excursion

Today’s excursion brings you to the beautiful 15th century sculpted Jain temples of Ranakpur. How to Spend a Week in India’s Golden Triangle

tour india 1 mese

So, you have one week to travel, and want to experience something unique? You’re looking for adventure, culture, spirituality, and mouthwatering food – all in one destination and all available in just a week. There are dozens of places you could go, but none will be as magical as a one week trip in India exploring the Golden Triangle .

From the Taj Mahal to Hawa Mahal, India is home to some of the world’s most impressive architectural achievements, spiritual sites that will inspire you, and food that will make your palette crave more. When it comes to travel, India is a place you’ll visit once and forever find yourself wanting to return. Here’s what you can experience travelling around the country’s beautiful Golden Triangle.

Best Time to Visit

October to March is widely considered the best time to visit India thanks to its moderate temperatures and higher chances of dry weather.

Type of Traveller Best Suited

Someone who has always been curious about Indian culture but never had the time to visit. This person loves bright, vibrant, and unique experiences. They are in touch with their spiritual side and love exploring new ways to connect with people and their surroundings. This person has a travel bug and relishes in learning and discovering new things.

Start and End Point

Start in Delhi, end in Varanasi.

Delhi, the third largest city in the world and the capital region of India, is a massive metropolitan area in Northern India. This region includes Old Delhi, a neighbourhood where the history dates back as far as the 1600s, as well as New Delhi, an urban district that serves as the country’s capital. This giant city has no shortage of vibrant activities to choose from, boasting an overwhelming amount of things to see and experience, from food, temples, markets, culture, and historical landmarks.

chandni chowk, Delhi, India

Pro Tip: The public transportation in Delhi is clean, efficient, and affordable. From the Metro to Hop-On-Hop-Off buses, you can save a lot of money by opting for public transit over taxis.

Some must-see stops include:

  • The Lotus Temple
  • Jama Masjid
  • Akshardham Temple
  • Hauz Khas Complex
  • Lodi Gardens
  • Qutub Minar
  • Jantar Mantar
  • Humayun’s Tomb
  • Spice Market (Khari Baoli in Old Delhi)
  • Dilli Haat – Handicraft Village

A man standing under an arch near the Taj Mahal

The next stop on your tour through India’s Golden Triangle is the city of Agra. This destination is known for being home to one of the Seven Wonders of the World, but it offers so much more than the beautiful Taj Mahal. After wandering through the ancient streets, dining in its charming restaurants, and touring its shrines, temples and gardens, you’ll quickly learn why this city is so easy to fall in love with. Make sure your camera is fully charged because this city is filled with stunning Indian sites that you’ll want to capture.

Pro Tip: Set your alarm clock early and get to the Taj Mahal for sunrise. Not only will you beat the heat and the crowds, you’ll also be able to enjoy the beautiful mausoleum as the sun begins to rise.

  • The Taj Mahal
  • Fatehpur Sikri
  • Itimad- ud -Daula’s Tomb
  • Mehtab Bagh
  • Tomb of Akbar the Great

Up next is Jaipur, also known as the Pink City. This city is enthralling – it overflows with a rich, royal history and is often thought to be India’s most flamboyant state. The chaos is both colourful and majestic, bringing about a fast-paced environment that pushes you into the adventure. It’s also a shoppers paradise. Here you can find dozens of different handmade crafts, jewellery, fabrics, traditional textiles and artwork, even carpets. This is one of the best places to find authentic Indian souvenirs, so don’t forget to explore the shops.

people in front of temple

Pro Tip: Carry a bit of cash with you as you never know when a crafty street vendor or shop will catch your eye. While some stores take debit or credit, it’s a good idea to have cash on hand in case you fall in love with something a smaller, more artisanal vendor is selling.

A man performing a ceremony in Varanasi, India

While Varanasi isn’t typically considered part of the Golden Triangle, a week in India wouldn’t be complete without visiting the country’s spiritual capital. Each year, thousands of Hindu pilgrims travel to Varanasi to bathe in the sacred flowing waters of the Ganges to rid themselves of sin or to perform funeral rites. This river is an extremely sacred part of the Hindu religion and is considered one of the holiest rivers in the world. This city provides a deep connection to faith for many, making it a very calming and peaceful space, even for those of different beliefs. Along with the Ganges, Varanasi is also home to over 2,000 temples, each one of them unique.

Pro Tip: When visiting temples or places of holy significance, be sure to dress modestly to show respect for Indian culture and faith. It’s a good idea to keep your shoulders covered and remove your shoes if you are asked to do so.

  • Boat Ride in Ganges River
  • Sarnath Village
  • The Golden Temple
  • Ramnager Fort
  • Durga Temple
  • Thateri Bazaar
  • Tulsi Manas Temple

India is one country that is truly capable of creating an experience you can’t find anywhere else in the world. The architecture is splendid, the day-to-day culture is lively, and the spiritual customs are moving. If you’ve got a week to travel and you don’t know where to go, India will feed your wanderlust.

When to Visit?

How to explore india in 1 week, day 1 - day 2 namaste delhi, namaste india, day 3 - day 4 everlasting agra, everlasting love, day 5 - day 6 pink hawa mahal, pink jaipur, day 7 farewell delhi, farewell india.

The best travel time to India is October to March. It's the winter in India, and the travel high season also. The temperature can range from 15°C to 30°C in the main tourist destinations. The cozy weather can bring you a pleasant mood to travel.

If you travel to India in summer (April to June), choosing the morning and late afternoon time would be a smart decision. In the Monsoon (July to September), you can visit the southern part of India to experience a different India.

Step into India and start your 1-week tour. Stay two nights in Delhi, two nights in Agra, and another two in Jaipur. This compact itinerary does not mean you will miss any highlights of the Golden Triangle Route. On the contrary, visiting three cities in one seamless journey keeps your enthusiasm high and attention focused, culminating in a continual 'wow' moment at the end of this incredible trip.

"Namaste", literally means "bowing to you", is a customary etiquette in India, for showing a respectful greeting. From your arrival at India Gandhi International Airport to your departure, this word will accompany you the throughout whole trip - mirroring the warm atmosphere in every corner in India.

Day 2 starts in Old Delhi, where you will keep marveling at the colorful and brilliant culture of India. Jama Masjid, the principal tourist attraction in Delhi, is the greatest mosque that can be capable of holding 25,000 worshippers.

Hop on a rickshaw and weave through the bustling lanes and alleys of Chandni Chowk. Proceed to New Delhi to delve into a cultural wonder - Qutub Minar and conclude the day with a visit to the Hindu Temple - Laxmi Narayan Temple.

As dawn creeps in, you will finish the Delhi journey contently.

Jama Masjid in Delhi

Taj Mahal, collectively known as the landmark of India, is about a lingering and pathos love story and is also about the architecture's miracle.

When the sun comes out, the bright color covers the whole building, just like you are immersed in the loving atmosphere between Emperor Shah Jahan and his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. Under the silvery moonlight, you will be deeply moved by the sad story of senile Shah Jahan. Finally, you can only see the Taj Mahal in a blurry mirror. All year round, from day to night, the Taj Mahal shows you a marvelous experience. Who can resist the glamour of the Taj Mahal?

Agra not only has the Taj Mahal. Take in the sights of Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is made of red sandstone. This majestic fortress is full of history and witnesses the resplendence of the Mughal Empire.

Taj Mahal, Agra

Break up the five-hour car journey with a stop at Fatehpur Sikri. This small city is a masterpiece of Mughal architecture. Follow the steps with the local guide, and you will learn how this "City of Victory" was glorious in the past.

Touch down in Jaipur, the fascination of this pink city is more than you expect. In 1853, most buildings in the city were painted pink. This makes Jaipur more popular than before.

Nestled in the Aravalli Range, the Amber Fort is the paragon of Rajasthani architecture, showcasing a perfect fusion of Indian and Islamic styles.

Take photos of the signature holistic Hawa Mahal . Imagine how exciting the ladies behind the wall would be when they have a glimpse to see the outside world during the strict hierarchy time.

Drop a visit to City Palace and Jantar Mantar to get an insight into India's imperial past and scientific achievements.

Casements on the Facade to Look out at the Bustling Street

Back to Delhi by our private car and go to the airport. Though the captivating journey is finished, the memory is endless.

Ah, after taking 1 week in India, you will find it is far from enough time to see this splendid destination. Make a 9-day tour with an extension to Varanasi, go to Darjeeling and Kolkata to taste the undiscovered treasures, or spend longer days in the southern part - Kerala by kicking back in the backwater.

It's hard to portray what's the real experience while traveling in India in words, so pack your luggage and go explore by yourself.

India Tours & Holidays

Travellers looking at a shrine carving with their guide in Delhi, India

There’s probably no other country on the planet that blazes its way into your memory like India.

Years later, you can still hear the morning calls of the chai wallahs; see smoke curling over the Ganges during a golden Varanasi sunrise , and smell the rich aromas of simmering curry. A lot of India tours rush from highlight to highlight, ticking them off in a blur of temples and tikka. But not us. Our India holidays are more about spotting Bengal tigers in Ranthambhore or Panna National Park, hanging with nomads in Jaisalmer, meeting the holy men of Pushkar, or hunting down the best street eats. This isn’t just the India you see on postcards. This is India as it is . Raw, bizarre and totally addictive.

Best time to visit india.

Due to India's size and topography, the climate varies from place to place but the best time to visit, generally speaking, is in the winter from December until early March. During the coolest months (December-January), temperatures can get quite cold in Delhi and in the north, especially at night. The whole country tends to get very hot from April onwards and most regions experience the summer from late May to around October. The summer offers hot and humid conditions, although this is considered one of the best times to visit Ladakh and the hills.

Culture and customs

India is one of the world’s oldest civilisations with a culture steeped in ancient beliefs and traditions. Religion also plays a massive role in everyday life with 80% of the population practising Hinduism while the remaining 20% is divided into Muslim (India has the world’s second-largest Muslim population), Christian, Sikhism and Buddhist populations.

At its core, India remains a deeply conservative nation; however, it has been touched by rapid modernization and Western influences in recent years. Some families still adhere to a traditional structure (especially in more rural areas) with generations living under the same roof, the eldest male at the head of the family and arranged marriages. But this is becoming less and less popular, particularly in larger cities, where Western ideas and societal shifts heavily influence the culture due to things like Bollywood films.

While some behavioural standards remain the same (public displays of affection are still taboo), it’s important to keep in mind that with more than one billion people speaking over 122 languages across 28 states and seven territories, it’s impossible to describe one unified culture for the entire nations and the character of India’s people can vary greatly from city to city.

Geography and environment

India shares land borders with   Bangladesh ,   China , Pakistan,   Nepal ,   Myanmar   and   Bhutan , and also has wide stretches of coastline along the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean. As the seventh largest country in the world, India is home to a variety of terrains - the Himalayas of the north, the deserts and plains of the west, the fertile waterways of the south and the hills and forests of the east. Development is occurring at a rapid pace, with India's large, sprawling cities consisting of everything from five star hotels to shanty towns, and with modern malls and cinemas sitting comfortably alongside bazaars and street food vendors. A trip through India will reveal a diverse range of landscapes, villages, cities and environments.

History and government

Early history.

Humans have inhabited India for as long as 75,000 years, with early civilisations flourishing as early as 3300 BC. Over the centuries, India both influenced and was influenced by other nations and kingdoms, with far-reaching trade, conquest and migration spreading the subcontinent's culture far and wide. Empires rose and fell over the centuries, with the wealthy Mughal Dynasty ruling most of India by 1600. At the same time, different European nations started showing an interest in India after being brought to the area for trade. The Portuguese, Dutch, British and French all had vested interests in India, with the British East India Company being given the rights to trade in India in 1617. The 1857 rebellion and War of Independence culminated in the decline of Mughal rule and were considered the first movements against the British Raj's heavy-handed rule of the country.

Recent history

By the 1920s, India's independence movement had grown considerably with Mohandas Gandhi leading mass movements based on passive resistance and non-cooperation against the British Raj. Although it took decades, India finally gained independence in 1947. More recently, India has seen dramatic societal changes mainly due to modernisation and globalisation. A new wave of prosperity has seen the rise of the middle class, with men and women entering into new work roles in telecommunications, manufacturing and business. India's large cities are dealing with the mass migration of rural citizens, who are moving to the city to seek better employment, education and opportunities for their children.

Festivals and events in India

Many of India’s biggest festivals are religious and follow either the Indian lunar calendar or the Islamic calendar. The dates may change each year, but the fervour of celebration never does. Some of the best and biggest festivals to keep an eye out for in India are:

Holi (Festival of Colour)

Take a whole lot of coloured powder and water, add thousands of happy people not afraid to get a little (or a lot) dirty and you have Holi – a technicolour Hindu celebration that marks the beginning of spring and the triumph of good over evil. Celebrations take place across India in either February or March.

Diwali (Festival of Lights)

India’s biggest festival – meaning ‘rows of lighted lamps’, people decorate their homes with colourful lights, candles are lit and firework displays take place across the country. The celebrations are particularly spectacular in Varanasi, where illuminated candles and earthen lamps are floated down the Ganges River as fireworks light up the sky. This five-day festival takes place every October or November.

Gujarat Kite Festival

Large, colourful and unusual kites flood the skies of Gujarat each January to commemorate the start of summer and beginning of harvest. Purchase your own at Patang Bazaar, a famous kite market, or just watch the others dance through the sky.

Mumbai Ganesh Festival

The birth of the elephant-headed god, Ganesh, is celebrated for 10-days each August or September in cities across India, but Mumbai takes it to another level. An incredible energy can be felt throughout the city as people pack the streets for a massive party and an elaborate statue of Ganesh is paraded around.

Pushkar Camel Fair

Thousands of camels (and their owners dressed in their finest garb) descend upon Rajasthan's Pushkar for the annual camel fair. Camels are traded and raced, acrobats and performers entertain crowds at a nearby fair, while finely dressed males and bejewelled females take the chance to let their hair down.

The same advice is also given to heterosexual couples (and couples of all other sexual orientations) as public displays of affection other than hugging and holding hands are generally frowned upon.

Intrepid is committed to making travel widely accessible, regardless of ability or disability. That’s why we do our best to help as many people see the world as possible, regardless of any physical or mental limitations they might have. How will I be travelling around India?

Intrepid believes half the fun of experiencing a new country is getting there, and getting around once there! Where possible, Intrepid uses local transport options and traditional modes of transport - which usually carry less of an environmental impact, support small local operators and are heaps more fun.

Depending on which trip you're on while in India, you may find yourself travelling by Jeeps.

Safari through jungles and national parks aboard a jeep, which is ideal for conquering the difficult terrain and offers supreme wildlife viewing opportunities.

Cruising the waterways of India is a revealing, inspiring experience. Whether it’s the iconic Ganges or peaceful Kerala backwaters, seeing India from the water is a must.

Travelling by train is one of the great experiences of India. It's a system which looks like chaos, but it works - and well.

Use the efficient metro to get around the sights and suburbs of Delhi.

Zip around the big cities of India by auto rickshaw.

What kind of accommodation will I be staying in?

Travelling with Intrepid is a little bit different. We endeavour to provide travellers with an authentic experience to remember, so we try to keep accommodation as unique and traditional as possible.

When travelling with us in India you may find yourself staying in a homestay.

Make new friends, feast on authentic home cooking and receive kind hospitality while staying with friendly families in India.

With walks, wildlife spotting and adventure sports nearby, staying in a jungle resort is the perfect way to see another side of India.

From ex-royal palaces to historic hill stations and converted forts, India is full of heritage properties that have been turned into comfortable accommodation with an old-world touch.

What is it like travelling on a small group tour?

Whether you’re a seasoned traveller or you’re about to embark on your first trip, travelling can be as intimidating as it is exciting. That's the beauty of a small group tour. From handling the logistics and organising amazing cultural activities to local leaders who know each destination like the back of their hand (like which street has the best markets and where to get the most authentic food), travelling on a small group tour with Intrepid will give you unforgettable travel experiences without the hassle that comes with exploring a new place. Plus, you'll have ready-made friends to share the journey with. All you have to do is turn up with a healthy sense of adventure and we’ll take care of the rest.

Does my trip to India support The Intrepid Foundation?

Yes, all Intrepid trips support the Intrepid Foundation. In fact, we make a donation on behalf of every traveller. Trips to India directly support our foundation partner, Positive Change for Marine Life.

Positive Change for Marine Life

Positive Change for Marine Life nurtures ocean health with community-led conservation initiatives. Donations help them expand and implement vital programs in India that empower local communities, support sustainable fishing practices, restore marine habitats and drive policy change. Intrepid will double the impact by dollar-matching all post-trip donations made to The Intrepid Foundation.
