Best 30 Amp RV Extension Cords & Adapters Reviewed 2024
What Kind Of RV Extension Cord Do I Need?
I’ve you’ve stayed at a couple of RV parks you’ve probably noticed that the location of the hookups varies a lot. Many RVs have power cables in different spots and you never know where the outlets are going to be.
Our travel trailer had the outlet in the back, now our Class C RV has the main power cable in the front.

Most of the time we can make it work but there have been a few campgrounds we’ve stayed at where a 30 amp RV extension cord would have really helped us out.
They’re also really nice if your generator has a 30 amp outlet and you want it to be as far away from your RV as possible to reduce noise.
When choosing a 30 amp extension cord for your camper one big thing to look at is the kind of plug or outlet that’s on your RV.

There are two main kinds of 30 amp outlets you find on a camper. There’s the standard TT-30P RV plug with 3 straight prongs or there’s the common twist lock style that requires a NEMA L5-30R plug .
The first 4 RV extension cords on the list are the standard TT-30P straight 3 prongs and the last two are for campers with a twist lock outlet. Make sure you check what kind your RV uses before purchasing.
If you have a short 30 amp twist lock cable for your camper you can also get a standard 3 prong 30 amp RV extension cord and connect it to the end of the power cable you already have.
But if you only want one cable to run from your RV to the outlet you will want to get one with a twist lock end.
In this review, I’ll go through some of the best 30 amp RV extension cords on the market today.
If you’re looking for a 50 amp RV power cord you can go to this review to check out the best ones.
I’ll also list some useful RV plug adapters that can be useful to have in your arsenal of RV gear.

Best 30 Amp RV Extension Cords Reviewed
1. camco power grip 30 amp extension cord.
Check Price at Amazon
Camco makes some of the best RV gear on the market today and its 30 amp RV extension cord is no exception.
It’s made with heavy duty 10 gauge copper wire with a flame retardant and heat resistant PVC coating. The cable is flexible but durable.
The male end is the standard 3 prongs 30 amp for RV outlets and the female end uses the same style.
The plugs are made to sit at 90 degrees which helps take the pressure off of the prongs and fits RV style outlets better.
If your camper has a twist lock outlet this may not be the RV cord for you but for most campers, this is what you want.
Each end uses Camco’s power grip design with large handles you can use to safely and more easily pull the plugs apart.
If 25 feet isn’t quite enough length Camco also makes a 50 foot version of this 30 amp RV extension cord (click to view on Amazon) that has all the same specs as the 25 foot one. It just weighs twice as much.
See Also: The Surprising Differences Between 30A & 50A RVs
The 25 foot Camco RV power cord weighs almost 8 lbs which means the 50 foot version weighs around 16 lbs. Both lengths are rated to carry up to 125 volts/3750 watts.
The Camco Power Grip 30 Amp Extension Cord is one of the best options out there if 25 feet is going to be enough distance and if your RV doesn’t have a twist-lock outlet.
It’s durable, uses the best materials for carrying high voltages, and it will get your RV the power it needs for the kind of camping you want to do.
The only thing that might make the Camco not right for you is the size of the plugs. If you need to fit the cable through a small hole in your RV the grips might make it difficult.
- Uses Copper Wire
- Handles On Plugs
- Heat Resistant PVC Cover
- 90 Degree Plug Heads
- 25 & 50 Foot Length Options
- No Carry Strap
- No LED Indicator
2. Coleman Cable Road Power 30 Amp RV Cord
The Road Power 30 Amp RV cord by Coleman Cable is one of the more simple RV extension cords you can get with a couple of good features like an LED power indicator and a pure copper core.
Like the other 30 amp RV cords in this review, the Road Power can transfer 125 volts and 3750 amps.
There’s only one length option, 30 feet. It weighs 8.35 lbs.
The 10 gauge copper wire is covered in a weather resistant plastic coating that is durable and made to sit outside.
The one thing that isn’t quite as durable and water resistant on this RV extension cord is the ends.
There are no handles on the male or female plugs but there is an LED power indicator on the female end.
Having no handles on the plugs could be a pro if you need to feed the cord into your camper but it does make it harder to disconnect them.
This RV cord uses the standard straight prong TT-30P RV plug style which means it won’t work with RV’s that use twist lock outlets.
See Also: Best RV Autoformer Reviewed & Everything You Need To Know
The prongs stick out from the plugs at 90 degrees which is best for RV use.
The main con to this RV power cord is the female plug end. It uses a different kind of design where the plastic forms around the prongs in a more fitted way.
This causes a gap in certain plugs which could potentially allow water inside.
This is mostly only an issue if you have the RV extension cord connected to another one so the connection is exposed to the elements.
You can solve this problem by making sure the female end of the Road Power cable is plugged into the male RV plug inside the RV or put it inside a waterproof electrical box.
The Coleman Cable Road Power 30 Amp RV Cord is a great value and a good length that should be enough for most RVers.
If you need a 30 amp RV extension cord that has small plugs to fit through holes this is a great option but make sure any connections are either inside a waterproof box or inside your RV.
- LED Power Indicator
- Included Cable Strap
- Only 1 Length Option
- Female End Not Waterproof
3. Parkworld RV 30A Extension Cord
The Parkworld 30 amp RV extension cord is the best of both worlds. It has small plug heads but also some handles you can use to grip the plugs when pulling them apart.
There are a lot of length options: 25, 36, 50, 75, and even 100 feet.
The 100 foot option is pretty rare when it comes to heavy duty RV extension cords since they need to be so huge to be able to transfer power that far.
The Parkworld 100 foot 30 amp RV power cord works well and is better than connecting two 50 foot power cords.
On all the lengths you get a 10 gauge copper core and a heavy duty PVC outer cover that is durable and heat resistant. They all use the standard straight blade 30 amp RV connection also known as TT-30P.
These will not attach directly to twist lock RVs without an adapter.
See Also: How To Connect/Plug RV Camper Into Generator (15/30/50 Amp)
The RV cords up to 50 feet are rated for 3,750 watts and 125 volts.
The 100 foot cable (click to view on Amazon) is rated for 7,500 watts to help cover the distance.
The 50 foot version weighs around 14 lbs while the 100 foot weighs twice as much at 28 lbs.
Both the male and the female plug ends have LED light indicators to show that the RV cord has power.
The Parkworld RV 30A Extension Cord is a fantastic option for those who need a 30 amp RV power cord with smaller heads than the Camco, lights that indicate power, and handles to make disconnecting easier.
The plug style isn’t quite as heavy duty as the Camco but so long as your main RV plug and the 30 amp plug are covered it shouldn’t be a problem.
- Multiple Length Options
- No Included Cable Strap
- Plugs Could Be More Heavy Duty
4. RVGUARD 30 Amp RV Power Extension Cord
This is the last TT-30P 30 amp RV extension cord in this review.
The RV Guard has a couple of length options to choose from. 15, 25, 30, or 50 feet.
The inner core is made with 10 gauge copper wire much like the others in this list. The wires are covered with heat-resistant insulation and a durable PVC sleeve.
Even though the plugs are made with solid colored plastic there is still an LED light indicator on the female plug side down near the base.
As I mentioned both ends use the standard 30 amp RV plug style with three straight blades. They won’t be able to directly connect to a twist lock outlet without an adapter.

The plugs are a nice medium size with grip handles molded into the back.
A plastic cable organizer is included. You can use it to hold everything together and even hang this heavy duty 30 amp extension cord on a wall.
There’s also a plastic storage bag thrown in for storing in your RV.
The 30 foot RV power cord which is the length I’ve linked to above weighs a little over 9 lbs.
The maximum watts is 3,750 and voltage rating is 125.
The RVGUARD 30 Amp RV Power Extension Cord is another fantastic option with a couple of lengths to choose from.
- Cable Strap & Bag Included
- PVC Sleeve Not As Durable As Others
5. Kohree Locking 30 Amp RV Extension Cord
The next 30 amp RV extension cords are for RVs with the NEMA L5-30R or twist lock outlets on their campers.
When using a long extension cord you want to try and have as few cable connections and adapters as possible.
That’s why if your camper has a 30 amp twist lock outlet you want to try and get an extension cord with a female twist lock plug.
The Kohree has a twist lock on the female side with a standard TT-30P male plug on the other to connect to standard 30 amp RV outlets.
The male RV plug has a built in grip handle on the back and the female side even has an LED light power indicator.
One nice thing about RV twist lock connections is they have the waterproofing ring that screws on around the connection so it’s safe to have connecting outside of the RV.

The two length options are 25 or 50 feet long.
The 10 gauge inner wire is made with 100% copper and each length is rated for 3,750 watts and 125 volts.
The outer sleeve is made with durable heat resistant PVC that can handle weather and being outdoors.
Included with purchase is a plastic storage strap and a small 15A to 30A adapter for plugging into regular home outlets.
The Kohree Locking 30 Amp RV Extension Cord is one of the best options out there for RV’s that have a twist lock outlet on the outside.
The twist lock is pretty common especially on travel trailers and 5th-wheels and this may be the best option for that reason.
- Cable Strap Included
- For L5-30R (Twist Lock) Only
6. RVMATE 30 Amp RV Lockable Power Extension Cord
Finally in our best 30 amp RV extension cord review, we have another awesome RV power cord with a female end that’s for L5-30R twist lock campers and a male end for standard TT-30 RV plugs.
The RV Mate is very similar to the Kohree reviewed above.
It has an LED light indicator on the female end, uses 10 gauge copper wire, a durable PVC sleeve, and there’s even a grip handle on the back of the male plug.
Like all twist lock RV plugs the female connection side is waterproof and uses a ring to screw onto your camper for a solid connection.
There are two length options, 30 or 50 feet.
See Also: Best Portable Quiet Inverter Generators For RV Camping
The 30 foot cable weighs over 9 lbs and the 50 foot cable weighs 15 lbs.
Both sizes come with a plastic strap used for storage and a plastic storage bag.
The RV power cord is rated for 3,750 watts and 125 volts.
The RVMATE 30 Amp RV Lockable Power Extension Cord is another great option for campers that use the twist lock.
I’ve mentioned this before but you want to limit the number of adapters and connections when using a long RV extension cord which means getting an extension cord that already has the correct configuration is the best way to go.
If you need a 30 or 50 foot 30 amp RV extension cord with an L5-30R female end and a TT-30 male end this is a fantastic choice.
Best 30 Amp RV Extension Cord Conclusion
Many of the 30 amp RV extension cords in this review are made with similar materials. They all use copper 10 gauge wire and have heavy duty PVC sleeves.
When it comes down to choosing the right one for you I would look mostly at the length options and the plug sizes.
If you need to be able to fit the RV power cord through a small pipe or hole you may want to go with one of the options that has a smaller plug.
If your connections are going to be exposed to the elements (not recommended) you may want to go with the most heavy duty plug head in the review.
You also need to check what style of female plug your RV uses.
Some campers have a long cable with a TT-30 male plug that’s wired directly to the converter box. For this kind of 30 amp RV you just need a regular TT-30 RV female to TT-30 RV male. The first 4 RV power cords in this review are that kind.
If your RV has a twist lock outlet on the outside of it you will need a 30 amp RV extension cord with a L5-30R female end and a TT-30 male end.
Make sure you know what kind of plug ends you need before purchasing.

Best 30 Amp RV Plug Adapters
Since you don’t always know what kind of outlets are waiting for you in a campground, RV park, or a friend’s house getting some RV plug adapters for all kinds of situations can be a good idea.
You don’t want to be stuck without power just because you didn’t have a simple RV adapter with you.
Below is a list of a few basic adapters you should always have with you if you have a 30 amp RV extension cord.
For Standard RV Plug
For Twist Lock RV Plug

For RVs With TT-30P RV Plugs
Camco 30 amp to 15 amp dogbone rv adapter.
A good 30 amp to 15 amp RV plug adapter is a must have for any RVer.
Even though you won’t be able to use the full 30 amp service in your camper you will still be able to run a few of the necessities and keep your RV batteries charged up.
Camco makes some of the best RVing gear on the market and its adapters are no different.
If your camper has a standard straight blade TT-30P 30 amp connection this is the adapter you want to have with you at all times.
The adapter is dogbone style which means it’s two plugs on a short cable. The cable is made with 10 gauge copper wire with a durable PVC coating.
Even though this RV plug adapter uses 10 gauge wire it’s only capable of transferring up to 1,875 watts of power since the power source is only 15 amp.
The 30 amp female end has a large grip handle to make pulling apart connections easy. Each end uses the low stress 90 degree design that works super well with RVs and RV outlets
If you have a 30 amp RV extension cord with a TT-30P or straight blade 30 amp male end then this is the kind of RV plug adapter you want.
You can use the extension cable to reach the 15 amp outlet and then connect this dogbone to fit the smaller power source.
Manshan 50A To 30A Dogbone RV Adapter
You may be wondering why you would need a 50 amp to 30 amp RV plug adapter when a 30 amp outlet is probably more common than a 50 amp one.
I recommend having one because even in newer RV parks sometimes the 30 amp receptacle can be worn and may not be as stable as the 50 amp one.
If you are staying in a smaller campground or park they may have only installed 50 amp since they can power every kind of camper with the right adapter.
It’s not a huge investment and it’s just a good thing to have if you travel in an RV a lot.
See Also: Will A 50A RV Surge Protector Work In A 30A Outlet?
The Manshan dogbone RV plug adapter has a standard 4 prong 5 amp male side and a TT-30P standard RV 30 amp female side.
If you have a long 30 amp RV extension cord you can use this at the end of it to supply your 30 amp RV using a 50 amp outlet.
The RV adapter can supply the full 3,750 watts needed for full 30 amp power and your RV will work as if you are plugged into a 30 amp outlet.
It may be rare when you need something like this but it’s a good small gadget to add to your RV gear.
For RVs With L5-30R Twist Lock RV Plugs
Camco 30 amp twist lock dogbone rv adapter.
If you have a 30 amp RV extension cord with TT-30P female and male plugs and you just found out your new camper has a twist lock outlet this is the RV plug adapter you will need.
Even though it’s best to try and use as few adapters and connections as possible when plugging in your RV to a power source sometimes you have to do what it takes to get things to work.
If for whatever reason you need to turn a L5-30R twist lock style 30 amp plug into a standard TT-30P plug, this is the dogbone adapter to get.
It uses 10 gauge copper wire, is rated for the full 3,750 watts and 125 volts, and has a grip handle on the male plug.

Hacks That'll Make Hooking Up Your RV Trailer Even Easier
H ooking up your RV trailer at the start of your vacation, and unhitching it at the end, should be a hassle-free experience. There are a few hacks to help make the process smoother and less stressful, like tips for connecting your RV trailer to your tow vehicle, connecting your RV to power, and marking your hitching point. Knowing your RV inside and out is crucial to planning the most successful RV trip.
Before hitching up your RV trailer, it's best to be well-prepared. Create a comprehensive checklist of items and tasks to ensure you don't overlook anything important. Safety gear should include your roadside emergency kit with flashlights, a fire extinguisher, and more. When it comes to the hitch and tow vehicle, ensure the hitch is clean and lubricated and that the tow vehicle's tires, brakes, and lights are in perfect working order when connected to the RV trailer. Take the time to check the water, propane, and electrical systems for any leaks or issues.
Using a checklist eliminates the chance of overlooking essential tasks and items, reduces the stress of preparation, and helps you hit the road with peace of mind. Checking that you have all of your RV hookup equipment, like chock blocks, levelers, and a basic tool kit, will also come in handy for a fast and easy setup. When it comes to hooking up your RV trailer, it's essential to know the proper techniques as well as these few time-saving hacks.

Combine Chock And Leveling Blocks
One of the first challenges you face when hooking up your RV trailer is preventing it from rolling or shifting, which should always be done before disconnecting your tow vehicle. If you can arrive at your site before dark , the light will allow you to see potential slopes and level your RV more easily. When on a level grade, place two chock blocks in front and behind a tire. This ensures your RV stays securely in place, even on uneven terrain. Invest in high-quality chock blocks made from durable materials like rubber or urethane, as they last longer in the elements and provide a better grip.
Parking on a level surface is ideal, but if that's not possible, use leveling blocks to even out the ground beneath your tires. Doing so will prevent your RV from tilting or leaning to one side, making it less stable during your stay. To combine the two tools, place the leveling blocks in front of and behind the tires, then chock the wheels on both sides.
Curved leveling and chock combinations are also available to purchase. These designs conform to the shape of your tires, provide a tighter grip, and include a chock and leveling block in one system. Regardless of what you use, it is important to regularly inspect and replace chock blocks that show wear and tear so they continue to provide optimal stability for your RV.
Mark The Height Of Your Tongue Jack With A Carabiner
Once you chock and begin to level your RV, you'll likely lower the tongue jack to ensure stability. But when it's time to pack up and head out, you may have to spend additional time trying to raise it back to the correct height. Avoid this hassle by marking the ideal height on your tongue jack using a carabiner.
After raising your tongue jack to unhook your tow vehicle, extend one of the safety chains to the ground and attach a carabiner to that link. Your setup will involve adjusting the height of your tongue jack to level and stabilize your RV. With the height marked, you can easily and accurately reposition your tongue jack to the correct height in seconds without any guessing or testing.
When it comes time to hook it up to leave, simply adjust the tongue jack's height until the carabiner is off the ground. You'll be able to back up and hook it onto your tow vehicle in a fraction of the time. This will save you time and effort when it is finally time to pack up and leave, and you're dreading the laundry list of things to do before heading home.
Invest In A Backup Camera
One of the most significant challenges when hooking up your RV trailer is ensuring a seamless alignment between your hitch and the trailer's coupler. You can mark the height of the tongue, but without a spotter or backup camera, you're still relying on guesswork to get the angle right. Investing in a backup camera will make hitching up your RV trailer much more manageable.
Your tow vehicle may come equipped with a backup camera or backup assistance; but if not, there are plenty of aftermarket cameras to choose from. Backup cameras are available in various styles, from wireless options to those that integrate into your existing display. They save you time and eliminate the frustration of repeated trial and error while parking or hitching up your RV trailer.
These cameras are mounted on the rear of your tow vehicle or RV, depending on which you choose, and display a live feed on your dashboard. Cameras mounted to tow vehicles make it easy to align your hitch and coupler accurately, and cameras mounted to the rear of your RV make it easier to back into your camping spot to hook up your RV. Not only does this save time and frustration during the hookup process, but it also improves safety by reducing the chances of damaging your vehicle or RV due to improper alignment.
Use A Cordless Drill For Stabilizers And Leveling Jacks
Stabilizing and leveling your RV trailer is a vital part of the setup process. It can also be physically demanding if you manually operate jacks and stabilizers. A cordless drill with the appropriate attachment can make this task significantly easier and faster. You'll be able to raise and lower jacks and stabilize your trailer with minimal effort, allowing you to start enjoying your destination sooner.
Impact drills are preferred for this task due to their increased power and torque. However, if you don't have an impact drill, a regular cordless drill will still do the job. Just be wary of the potential damage to the motor if you frequently use it for this task. When using a cordless drill, make sure it's fully charged before starting. It's also essential to have the correct attachment that fits your jacks and stabilizers securely.
When you're parked on soft or uneven surfaces, your RV's stabilizing jacks can sink into the ground and cause damage to both your RV and the surface underneath. Jack pads distribute your RV's weight more evenly and prevent this from happening, and they'll ensure safety when using your drill to raise the stabilizers. Jack pads come in various shapes and sizes, including stackable options. Keep them stored near your leveling blocks for easy access when needed.
Use The Right Surge Protector
Once your RV is stabilized, it is time to hook your RV up to an external power source. Using a surge protector is a must to protect your RV's electrical system from any sudden power surges or low voltage. These devices protect your electrical system from surges and power spikes that can cause damage. Regularly check the condition of your surge protector and power cord to avoid potential safety hazards. Testing the RV site pedestal can be a simple step many RV users miss. Bring along a multimeter to test the voltage of the pedestal for abnormally high or low readings.
Most RV sites use a 30- or 50-amp power supply, as smaller RVs typically have a 30-amp plug, while larger, more luxurious models may require a 50-amp plug. The key difference in the amperage of your electrical system is the number of prongs on your plug. 30-amp plugs have three prongs, and 50-amp plugs have four. Getting a surge protector that matches your RV's amperage is crucial. If not, it could cause electrical failures and potential damage.
Adapters can also be used if needed, but it's important to use the correct adapter for your specific RV and power source. Additionally, always carry a backup generator with you in case of emergency power outages or sites without external power sources. Carrying a heavy-duty, RV-specific power extension cord is also a must in case the power source is farther away from your RV.
