If your idea of getting away from it all includes a vacation without the kids, consider booking an adults-only or adults-oriented cruise . While some lines provide a fully adults-only experience (i.e., children are not allowed on board), others offer adult-focused venues and activities on the ship to keep you separate from younger patrons.

The following cruise lines provide upscale amenities, immersive excursions, sophisticated dining options, lively nighttime entertainment and time for relaxation among like-minded – and similarly aged – travelers.

Viking Ocean Cruises

Travelers ages 18 and older are welcome aboard Viking 's adults-only ships, which feature destination-focused itineraries around the world. The line's 11 oceangoing ships carry between 930 and 998 guests (at double occupancy) and offer luxurious, comfortable Scandinavian-style spaces. The line will add Viking Vesta to its ocean fleet in 2025.

Viking's exploration program boasts special access to behind-the-scenes experiences curated for travelers who are interested in history, food, the arts or science. Immerse yourself in local culture with a visit to a traditional family farm near Bergen, Norway, or spend an evening dining on Chinese specialties at a home-hosted dinner in Shanghai .

In addition to these off-the-beaten-path excursions, guests can visit iconic sites like the ancient city of Ephesus (Kuşadasi) in Turkey and the Acropolis in Athens, Greece . Viking also hosts onboard enrichment programs like cooking classes and lectures by historians. Cruise fares include stateroom accommodations with a private veranda, all meals (including specialty dining venues), wine and beer at onboard lunch and dinner, 24-hour room service, one free excursion per port, complimentary Wi-Fi access, and access to onboard amenities such as the Nordic Spa and fitness center.

In addition to its ocean vessels, Viking offers river cruises in destinations around the world – including Mississippi River cruises aboard Viking Mississippi. The line also has two Polar Class 6 expedition ships, Viking Octantis and Viking Polaris, which traverse waterways from Canada, the U.S. and South America to remote destinations in Antarctica and the Arctic.

Virgin Voyages

Virgin Voyages offers an adults-only retreat for guests ages 18 and older. The line currently has three sister ships: Scarlet Lady (the first in the fleet), Valiant Lady and Resilient Lady . The line's fourth ship, Brilliant Lady, is set to debut in September 2025.

All the ships in this adults-only cruise line feature 1,404 cabins (most with balconies) and RockStar Quarters suites, where guests have access to Richard's Rooftop, an exclusive outdoor deck space. The superyacht-inspired vessels boast 20-plus eateries, including restaurants by Michelin-starred chefs, and a variety of onboard fitness and wellness spaces. At Redemption Spa, relax and recharge in the mud room or salt therapy chamber – and then take rejuvenating dips in the hot and cold plunge pools. You can even order a bottle of bubbly anywhere on the ship via the Virgin Voyages app's secret "Shake for Champagne" feature.

Itineraries on Virgin Voyages span destinations in the Caribbean, Europe and Morocco, as well as trans-Atlantic crossings. The line will also feature 21 new ports across its global fleet in 2025, including destinations in Iceland, Turkey, Oman, Italy, Portugal, the Cayman Islands and more. Cruise fares cover meals at all the dining venues and basic beverages such as soda, water, tea and coffee. Gratuities for the crew, Wi-Fi access, entertainment and group fitness classes are also included. While on board, be sure to indulge in a swanky dinner at The Wake and an immersive show at The Red Room, a unique multiform theater at sea.

P&O Cruises

Two ships in P&O Cruises' U.K.-based fleet – Arcadia and Aurora – are exclusively for adults 18 and older. Arcadia, the slightly newer of the two ships (debuted in 2005), carries 2,094 guests at double occupancy, plus 866 crew. The ship departs from Southampton in the U.K. and sails to a variety of European destinations, ranging from Spain and the Canary Islands to Norway and Iceland; some cruises visit the U.S. and Canada. The ship will also sail world cruises in January 2025 and 2026.

Arcadia's 15 restaurants, cafes and bars include Indian cuisine with a British twist at Sindhu, as well as steaks and seafood by renowned British chef Marco Pierre White at Ocean Grill. Passengers can take a class to sample the line's branded gins; sip Champagne at Intermezzo, the ship's cocktail and Champagne venue; or enjoy a pre-dinner aperitif at the yacht-inspired Spinnaker. After exploring exciting ports of call, head back on board to enjoy Arcadia's elegant interiors and top-notch service. You can splurge on a stone therapy treatment and a visit to the thermal suite at the spa for some extra pampering, followed by a live show at the three-tiered theater, The Palladium. Then, finish off the evening dancing the night away at The Globe.

Aurora is a slightly more intimate ship, carrying 1,874 passengers (double occupancy) and 850 crew members. A four-level atrium gallery sits at the heart of the vessel. Itineraries include destinations in the Mediterranean, the Baltic, the British Isles, Iceland, the Caribbean and South America. There are 19 restaurants, bars and cafes on the ship, including club-style restaurant Alexandria and casual spots like The Beach House. After dinner, live entertainment and dancing await you at the show lounge Carmen's, as do larger productions at the ritzy 660-seat Curzon Theatre.

Top Cruises Designed for Adults

While some all-inclusive – or mostly all-inclusive – boutique and luxury cruise lines are family-friendly, many of the onboard venues and activities are adult-by-design. Since there are few (or no) activities geared toward younger cruisers and no babysitting services, you typically won't find parents with young children on these ships.

Azamara's four upscale boutique ships provide immersive travel experiences geared toward adults. These smaller ships – accommodating a maximum of 702 guests – sail waterways and rivers that larger ships can't access, docking in city centers and unique ports of call around the globe.

Many Azamara voyages also offer longer stays and overnights in port, unlike some competitors' itineraries. Some even feature special events, such as a 12-night voyage from Rome to watch the Monaco Grand Prix in May 2025, or a 25-night cruise in February 2025 from Buenos Aires, Argentina , to attend Carnival in Rio de Janeiro . In addition, the line is extending its offerings on Country Intensive voyages in 2024 and 2025 with itineraries in various continental European countries, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Iceland and Australia.

On board, you'll find a wide selection of casual and formal dining options ranging from Windows Cafe to the main dining room, Discoveries Restaurant. Specialty restaurant offerings include top-notch steak and seafood at Prime C and Italian fare at Aqualina. Atlas Bar is a unique venue on Azamara Onward (the line's newest ship), though its artisanal cocktail menu is also available on the line's other ships. Discoveries Lounge is another guest-favorite spot, and wine aficionados will enjoy pairing limited-production and rare vintages from the Wine Cellar with dinner.

Cruise fares include stateroom accommodations; select spirits, wine and beer; gratuities; 24-hour room service; and nonalcoholic beverages. You'll also have access to complimentary AzAmazing Celebrations with special evening and daytime events ashore and on the ship. You can purchase a package that includes additional amenities like unlimited Wi-Fi, specialty dining, shore excursion credits and other perks. Butler service and other extras come with suite accommodations.

When it launched in 2019, Scenic Eclipse I was touted as "The World's First Discovery Yacht." The intimate vessel offers an all-inclusive, ultra-luxurious experience for just 228 guests (double occupancy). The line's second luxury yacht, Scenic Eclipse II, which is nearly identical to its sister ship, debuted from Lisbon, Portugal , in April 2023. The Polar Class 6 rating enables these two yachts to sail to destinations like Antarctica; on these expedition-style voyages, the ship carries only 200 guests and offers a nearly one-to-one crew-to-guest ratio.

All suite accommodations include a private veranda or terrace; butler service; state-of-the-art amenities; a king-size Scenic Slumber Bed; and an in-suite minibar stocked with wine, spirits and other personally selected beverages. You'll also find indulgences like onboard helicopters for intimate excursions and the line's submersibles for underwater exploration.

Guests can enjoy up to 10 dining experiences on the ship, including French fine dining at Lumière; innovative Asian flavors at Koko's Asian Fusion; Italian, steak and seafood specialties at Elements; or an immersive dining experience at Chef's Garden @ Epicure. When it's time for an after-dinner drink, sample craft cocktails or the impressive selection of whiskeys available at Scenic Lounge Bar. Other onboard activities include getting an invigorating treatment at Senses Spa or just relaxing with Champagne and spectacular views on deck 10 at the Sky Bar.

Scenic's ships sail to destinations in Australia and the South Pacific; Europe and the Mediterranean; Asia; the Americas and the Caribbean; and the polar regions of Antarctica and the Arctic.

What's more, Windstar's itineraries offer late evenings and overnights in its ports of call, allowing guests to experience local culture and cuisine after dark.

Windstar will begin sailing in South America in December 2025 with the 312-passenger (double occupancy) Star Pride, offering excursions to UNESCO World Heritage Sites like the town of Cusco , Machu Picchu and the Galápagos Islands .

Other Top Adults-Only Cruise Options

While these larger ships offer activities for families and children of all ages, adults can also find hidden retreats and venues just for grown-ups. These spaces are typically quieter and situated away from the crowds.

Celebrity Cruises offers spaces created with adult guests in mind. On Celebrity Beyond and the newest addition to the fleet, Celebrity Ascent , adults can have a unique dining experience at Le Voyage by Daniel Boulud. You'll also find an impressive wine list to accompany your dining experience.

When it's time to relax, The Solarium is a popular adults-only area located on the Resort Deck of all Celebrity ships. This light-filled pool area encased by a glass dome is the perfect quiet space for reading a book or taking a nap. While there, you can also grab a light breakfast or lunch at the Spa Cafe and Juice Bar, or order your favorite cocktail while lounging in the hot tub.

Other adult-focused venues to check out on Celebrity Ascent, Beyond and Apex are the new elevated bar spaces. The Edge series World Class Bar – a popular spot on other Celebrity Cruises ships – features craft cocktails in a beautiful setting. And don't miss the two-story Sunset Bar on Celebrity Ascent, a reimagined space by interior designer and TV personality Nate Berkus. The aft location of the bar offers almost twice the space as previous iterations and beautiful wake views.

The Sanctuary, a retreat for guests ages 18 and older, offers an escape from bustling public spaces. The relaxing top-deck venue is available on all Princess Cruises ships and features plush lounge chairs, a spa-like setting and Serenity Stewards, who serve light bites and other refreshments. To fully unwind, consider reserving a private cabana, where you can book an open-air massage. The child-free venue varies from ship to ship, with some offering the exclusive Retreat pool, cabanas and a bar area, and newer iterations featuring more space.

Spellbound by Magic Castle is an exciting new venue aboard the line's newest ship, Sun Princess, for adults 21 and older. The collaboration with The Magic Castle private club in Hollywood offers guests an evening of magic, illusions and theatrical cocktails in a Victorian-inspired space.

If you're heading off the ship for an excursion to Princess Cays (the cruise line's private island in the Bahamas), plan to chill out for the day in an adults-only Sanctuary Bungalow. Located just minutes from the ocean and beach, the rentals accommodate four people, and the price includes two complimentary float rentals. You can also order a gourmet picnic to enjoy while lounging on shore.

Back on the ship, adults can reserve a spot for the line's new Winemaker Dinners, a partnership with Caymus Vineyards. Winemaker Chuck Wagner personally selected the wines from the notable Napa Valley winery to pair with the elevated five-course menu.

Thanks to a full glass canopy over the interior space, adult passengers can enjoy quiet lounging areas, swimming pools and whirlpool tubs with a view, no matter the weather. Select ships feature a cascading lagoon for further relaxation.

Be sure to grab a tropical cocktail or zero-proof drink at Solarium Bar (or Sunshine Bar, on Quantum ships) to sip poolside while enjoying the ocean vistas. Guests of both bars must be at least 21 years old when sailing from North America or a minimum of 18 when departing from South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

Adult cruisers (18 and older) can relax and chill out at the first suspended infinity pool at sea at The Hideaway on Royal Caribbean's newest ship, Icon of the Seas. The beach-vibe neighborhood, perched eight stories above the sea at the back of the ship, features Champagne cocktails, a DJ spinning tunes, full-size daybeds, a wraparound bar, and endless ocean and sunset views from the multilevel terrace.

Frequently Asked Questions

"Adults-only cruise ships – or adults-only spaces on cruise ships – have become increasingly popular over the years," says Chris Gray Faust, executive editor at Cruise Critic. "That's not only because fewer people are having families. It's also because parents themselves often want the chance to get away, either by themselves for a romantic trip or with friends to celebrate a special occasion, girls' or guys' weekend, or milestone birthdays."

"I seek out adult spaces on cruise ships primarily because I want my experience on a ship to mirror my life on land – a little quieter, with more sophisticated food and drink options," she explains. "I also appreciate the opportunity to connect with my friends who are parents in a space where we can have personal one-on-one conversations or let loose a bit with some drinks. Adults with children are more than just their kids, after all – and they also appreciate a space where they don't have to worry about their little ones."

Anne Scully, a partner at the luxury travel company EMBARK Beyond, says, "With so many cruise lines and sailings, it's always a good idea to have options – and adults-only cruises are very popular." She adds, "Viking and Virgin have always focused on adults-only cruises and most river cruises also cater to adult passengers."

Adults-only cruises are designed with guests ages 18 and older in mind, from the staterooms and dining venues to the onboard entertainment and shore excursions. What you typically won't find on board are water or theme parks, climbing walls, game rooms, and restaurants serving kid-friendly foods.

If you're looking for a relaxing, fun and romantic vacation without the kids in tow – and you don't want to deal with the other passengers' children on your getaway – consider booking a sailing specifically for cruisers at least 18 years old. Alternatively, select a cruise line or ship that caters to mostly adults and doesn't offer any services, kids clubs, babysitting or activities for children.

You don't have to be a kid to be a Disney Cruise Line fan. While the line does not have an adults-only vessel within the fleet, there are plenty of kid-free spaces for adults only. Adults can enjoy cocktails, dinner and entertainment in several venues and relax at designated pool areas on the ship. There's also private, adults-only stretch of beach, Serenity Bay, on the line's private island, Castaway Cay.

In addition, Disney offers one of the best programs to keep youngsters entertained at sea, so you'll find that many of the children hang out in the kids club during the day and in the evening. These club spaces are divided by age groups, and they're typically open until midnight or 1 a.m. so parents – and even adults without kids – can enjoy a night out on the ship sans kids.

Adults-only Cruise Lines

Cruise lines geared toward adults.

Olivier Blaud

If you’re planning a kid-free trip, consider embarking on a cruise — yes, really. Sure, there are plenty of cruise ships teeming with waterslides and over-the-top offerings like laser tag, go-karts, and escape rooms, but they aren’t the only option. While only a few cruise lines are exclusively adults-only, there are a handful of others that are geared toward grown-ups — and only grown-ups — thanks to a lack of kids clubs, activities, and other programming that would typically attract families.

Ultimately, when it comes to selecting your adults-only cruise, options abound. “A question often asked is, ‘What is the best cruise line for only adults?’” explains T+L A-list travel advisor Eric Goldring . “But, alas, the question is much simpler than the answer!” Moreover, he explains, “Adults, like cruise lines, come in all different varieties.” With that in mind, we’ve rounded up 14 of our favorite cruise lines for adults — from high-energy, party-centric Virgin Voyages to more traditional small-ship luxury options like Seabourn and Silversea — plus several hand-picked expert recommendations.

Meet the Expert

Eric Goldring is a T+L A-list travel advisor specializing in expedition, small-ship, and medium-ship cruising.

Rob Clabbers is a T+L A-List travel advisor and founder of Q Cruise + Travel, a Chicago-based travel agency.

Ashton Palmer is a Seattle-based T+L A-List travel advisor and founder of Expedition Trips.

Virgin Voyages

Courtesy of Virgin Voyages

Virgin Voyages is one of few explicitly adults-only cruise lines. Guests, called Sailors, must be 18 or older. According to T+L A-List travel advisor Rob Clabbers of Q Cruise + Travel in Chicago, Virgin Voyages is “quite different from a typical cruise line” and is an especially “great fit for young-at-heart travelers” who “like a bit of local culture with their beach and aren’t looking for white-glove service or standard cruise experiences.” Sailors can choose from a range of different itineraries, including four- to eight-night Caribbean sailings, seven-night Europe voyages, and three- to 11-night Australia and South Pacific cruises.

Virgin Voyages ships are also unique in that they lack traditional dining rooms and buffets, instead offering 20-plus eclectic drinking and dining venues — or, as Clabbers says, what “most other cruise lines would consider ‘specialty restaurants.’” Elizabeth Rhodes , T+L’s special projects editor, set sail on a Virgin Voyages ship with her sister in 2022 and was blown away by the onboard bars and restaurants. “Our favorite restaurants included Pink Agave, a Mexican restaurant decked out in sophisticated navy and pink tones; Gunbae, a Korean barbecue spot where meals start with a funny drinking game; and The Wake, a beautiful, glitzy restaurant serving steak and seafood with incredible ocean views,” she wrote in a piece detailing her Virgin Voyages girls trip .

Additionally, per Clabbers, the entertainment offerings are best described as “atypical and engaging” and include pool parties, private karaoke studios, and drag queen cabaret. Of course, we’d also be remiss not to mention the onboard tattoo parlors, aptly called Squid Ink.

Courtesy of Viking Cruises

According to Clabbers, Viking “features the world’s largest fleet of river cruise ships, as well as very popular 930-passenger ocean ships and two true expedition vessels that explore the polar regions and the Great Lakes.” The line does not allow children under 18 on any of the ships — and there are also “no casinos, umbrella drinks, inside staterooms [even the most standard cabins offer private verandas], or photography sales, art auctions, or other nickel-and-diming that unfortunately is a given on many large-ship mainstream cruise lines.” What’s more, with its sleek Scandinavian-inspired interiors and refined ambiance, the line is especially popular with mature cruisers, says Clabbers. He continues, telling T+L, “The self-styled ‘Thinking Person’s Cruise,’ Viking focuses on allowing guests to immerse themselves in a destination with an included excursion each day and onboard enrichment.”

Also, while Viking cruises aren’t exactly budget-friendly, they offer plenty of added value. Fares include Wi-Fi; one shore excursion in each port of call; port taxes and fees; access to the onboard Nordic Spa; beer, wine, and soft drinks with onboard lunch and dinner; specialty dining (which the line calls “alternative restaurant dining”); and 24-hour room service.

P&O Cruises

P&O Cruises is a British line that’s especially popular with — you guessed it — U.K.-based cruisers. P&O has a total of seven ships, five of which are family-friendly and two —  Aurora and Arcadia — that are only for adults.

The 1,874-passenger Aurora is the line’s smallest ship and offers a more intimate feel. There are three pools and 19 bars and restaurants. Entertainment offerings include a theater, a cinema, a library, an art gallery, a card room, and a lounge where cruisers can catch cabaret performances, discos, quiz shows, and more. Aurora offers a breadth of itineraries ranging from lengthy world cruises to four- and five-night “Short Breaks,” sailing round-trip from Southampton to nearby European cities like Amsterdam, Hamburg, and Zeebrugge. Aurora also sails to the Canary Islands, the Mediterranean, and North America. The 2,388-passenger Arcadia is a bit larger; however, it has fewer pools (two compared to three) and bars and restaurants (15 compared to 19).  While Arcadia also lacks a card room and a lounge, it does boast The Globe in its place, which offers movie screenings, art auctions, cabaret shows, live music, and more. Arcadia offers similar itineraries to her smaller sister ship, sans world cruises.

Saga Cruises

British line Saga Cruises specifically caterers to passengers 50 and older (however, travelers can bring along companions as young as 40). The line offers two ocean ships, Spirit of Adventure and Spirit of Discovery , which have all-balcony staterooms for up to 987 passengers. Both vessels depart from either Dover or Portsmouth in England and offer itineraries through Europe — including the Canary Islands and the Azores — as well as West Africa, the Caribbean, Central America, Canada, and New England. Saga also offers river cruises on sister ships Spirit of the Danube and Spirit of the Rhine. Its newest ship, Spirit of the Douro, will debut in 2024. (The line also charters several other river vessels throughout the year.)

All Saga cruise fares are all-inclusive of meals, Wi-Fi, unlimited beverages (including alcohol), gratuities, excursions, spa access, and more. At sea, guests can indulge in afternoon tea service, listen in on lectures from guest speakers, and catch live music and entertainment.

Explora Journeys

Courtesy of Explora Cruises

Explora Journeys debuted its flagship vessel, Explora I , in summer 2023, and its identical sister ship, Explora II , is set to launch in summer 2024. Despite being new to the scene, it’s already one of Goldring’s favorite adult-oriented cruise lines since it offers a “luxury resort experience.” While the line does have connecting suites, a small children’s room, and select programming for multigenerational families , Goldring tells T+L that “Explora is very much geared [toward] adults.”

The elegant, all-suite accommodations are a highlight, as is the ocean-inspired wellness center. The culinary programming is also top-notch, with six onboard restaurants — including the Med Yacht Club for tasty Mediterranean dishes, the ritzy Marble & Co. Grill for steaks and chops, and the breezy-chic Emporium Marketplace for all-day international fare — all helmed by a team of acclaimed chefs. Passengers can sip cocktails in style at one of 12 tony bars and lounges (eight indoor, four outdoor). The line offers a range of activities, including book clubs, guided meditations, mixology classes, coffee tastings, courses on destination-themed crafts, and live jazz. There is also special programming for solo travelers and sober cruisers . Alternatively, travelers can opt to bypass all of the above to soak up the sun by one of several sparkling swimming pools or peruse some of the uber-luxe onboard shops, including the world’s first Rolex boutique at sea.

Silversea Cruises

Courtesy of Silver Sea Cruises

Adults craving a traditional luxury cruise experience should consider sailing with Silversea Cruises . While the line does not explicitly exclude children, it’s rare to find few — if any — on board, given the lack of kid-friendly programming. Per Goldring, this small-ship luxury line is one of few to still have formal nights on board. With that in mind, it makes sense that Silversea offers “a more refined, somewhat formal, service and dining experience.” Seattle-based T+L A-List travel advisor Ashton Palmer of Expedition Trips echoes these sentiments. “Silversea offers guests looking for uncompromised luxury and creative expeditionary itineraries the opportunity to be pampered while cruising some of the most remote destinations.”

As part of said pampering, all guests enjoy suite accommodations, butler service, complimentary alcoholic beverages, and gourmet dining. S.A.L.T. Bar, Kitchen, and Laboratory — found aboard Silver Moon, Silver Dawn, Silver Nova, and Silver Ray — features locally sourced ingredients and cuisine for a true taste of the destination. Culinary connoisseurs on board one of these four ships can enjoy food-focused culinary excursions (think: a visit to a working organic farm in Paros, a vineyard tour in Wales, pasta-making in Sicily, and so on). Similarly, it's worth mentioning that shore excursions, lectures, gratuities, and private transfers are also included in the cruise fare. Lastly, says Palmer, “With multiple vessels traveling throughout the globe, there are trips to suit every individual.”

Windstar Cruises

Courtesy of Windstar

“While not strictly adults-only, another line adults should consider when traveling without children is Windstar ,” says Clabbers. While the line technically welcomes all travelers ages nine and above, he explains that “the intimate size of its yachts means that the experience is really best suited for adults (couples and single adult travelers) who appreciate the romance of being on a ship with sails, or a spacious suite-only motor yacht.” The pro is also quick to highlight the vessels’ small size, which makes it easier to access less-visited ports such as Montserrat in the Caribbean and the Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia.

Additionally, although the ships are undoubtedly swanky, Goldring tells T+L that the onboard experience is best described as “casual luxury.” What’s more, he says, ”There is a wonderfully casual atmosphere with an emphasis on being out on deck and enjoying the marina and all its toys coupled with excellent cuisine and service.” Like Silversea, Windstar also offers world-class dining thanks to a partnership with the James Beard Foundation. Culinary-themed shore excursions and chef-led market tours in various ports of call are also available. Finally, while you won’t find water slides or video game rooms on board, Clabbers says passengers can let their inner child out on select Tahiti, Mediterranean, or Caribbean sailings thanks to the “water sports platform with snorkeling gear, stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, and water trampolines.”

Courtesy of Seabourn Venture Cruises

Between its fleet of seven small ships — none carrying more than 600 passengers — luxury line Seabourn cruises all seven continents. Among its fleet are two state-of-the-art expedition vessels, Seabourn Pursuit and Seabourn Venture , which, per Palmer, “take luxury-focused exploration to the next level” by offering the “perfect combination of luxury and adventure.” As such, guests will enjoy “multiple dining venues ranging from fine dining to casual bistro, a comprehensive spa, and a world-class expedition program that includes submarines for exploring below the surface.” The five ocean ships are just as opulent. Most staterooms have private verandas, and all dining venues are included — as are premium spirits, fine wines, and caviar.

Seabourn also offers a slew of signature events that vary depending on the itinerary, all free of charge. Fan favorites include Caviar in the Surf (in which staff members plunge into the water and invite guests in to wade and enjoy Champagne and caviar from the surfboard bar — followed by a BBQ feast, water sports, and music); Marina Day (featuring free water sports launched directly from the retractable marina platform), the Polar Plunge (in which guests can dive into the frigid Arctic waters or watch others partake in the event), and Caviar on the Ice (caviar and tartare service with a side of epic glacial views.)

“French-owned Ponant is an ultra-luxe small-ship line that presents luxury-forward expeditions to some of the most remote destinations on Earth,” says Palmer. The line boasts an impressive fleet of 12 ships, including the cutting-edge Le Commandant Charcot . According to the pro, the vessel “boasts five-star luxury amenities and dining options, including a tasting restaurant by renowned French chef Alain Ducasse.” He continues, telling T+L, “For guests who want to sip Veuve Clicquot and savor caviar while traversing the North Pole or sit fireside while exploring Antarctica’s Southern Ocean, this is the perfect adult-oriented vessel.”

In addition to polar expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctica, the line offers tropical voyages to South and Central America, Oceania and the Pacific Islands, and Africa and the Indian Ocean. Non-expedition sailings are also available and feature ports of call like Madagascar, Bequia Island in the Caribbean, and Kanazawa in Japan. Finally, while Le Commandant Charcot is certainly impressive, don’t sleep on the line’s other ships, either. Among them is the three-masted, 16-cabin Le Ponant , which is specially designed for cruising the Polynesian waters.

Regent Seven Seas

Courtesy of Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Regent Seven Seas is yet another small-ship luxury line geared toward grown-ups. While not explicitly adults-only — there are some child-friendly activities — it’s rare to spot little ones on board unless you’re cruising to popular destinations like Alaska or the Mediterranean in the summer months (when school’s out). With that in mind, those who opt for multi-week or months-long itineraries, including Grand Voyages , can most likely expect a kid-free sailing.

Well-heeled couples, solo travelers, and groups of friends with a taste for the finer things in life will especially enjoy a Regent cruise. Lavish touches — from glittering chandeliers to sumptuous suites, to thousands of square feet of marble — can be found throughout its fleet. Perhaps the best part about cruising with Regent is its all-inclusive fares, which fold airfare, unlimited shore excursions, two- or three-night land programs, a pre-cruise hotel stay, unlimited beverages, open bars and lounges, gratuities, specialty dining, airport and ship transfers, W-Fi, and more into one flat fee.

Crystal , which is now part of the A&K Travel Group, made its grand (re)debut in the summer of 2023 after a years-long hiatus — and the line has long been a favorite among luxury-loving adult travelers. Both Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity have undergone multimillion-dollar refurbishments and are sure to impress. Highlights include all-suite staterooms (all of which include butler service), gourmet specialty dining (including the first and only Nobu at sea), and adult-oriented entertainment (which runs the gamut from stand-up comedy to Broadway-caliber productions). Guests can also sit in on lectures, attend Computer University@Sea to learn more about the Internet and social media, play pickleball, or read one of the 2,000-plus books in the onboard library.

No sailing is complete without at least one visit to the state-of-the-art Aurōra spa, which offers everything from Dysport injections and IV treatments to acupuncture and salt scrubs. Crystal currently sails six continents (all but Antarctica), and, although you can’t go wrong with any of the itineraries, the 123-night 2025 World Cruise — which visits 62 ports in 31 countries — is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Courtesy of Azamara

Azamara offers a fleet of four small-to-medium-sized ships that can accommodate up to 702 guests. While not officially adults-only, the line does not provide any kid’s programming, so families are few and far between on board. Instead, you’ll find mostly older couples (think: 50 and up). The ambiance is best described as serene and sophisticated, sans any stuffiness.

Additionally, Azamara designs its itineraries to maximize time off the ship, so it’s common for sailings to offer late-night stays or even overnights in ports. Cruisers can also enjoy local-led shore excursions.

Back on board, travelers can sip cocktails and unwind in one of the bars and lounges, retreat to their contemporary staterooms, unwind at the spa, and tuck into a meal at one of six eateries. There’s a handful of onboard entertainment offerings, including live shows and music, plus the line’s signature White Night, where guests can eat, drink, and let loose in their best white outfits.

Courtesy of Uniworld Cruises

River cruise line Uniworld is a favorite amongst mature couples and groups for its wide variety of itineraries throughout Europe, Africa, Asia, and South America. Think of each ship in the Uniworld fleet as a floating boutique hotel that’s distinctively designed to reflect the destinations that they sail. This — combined with the high staff-to-guest ratio and all-inclusive luxury offerings — only adds to the appeal. Once on board, guests enjoy suite accommodations complete with butler service, as well as meals made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients from specific ports of call.

Off the ship, travelers can choose from a selection of complimentary and premium excursions that range from private after-hours tours to hiking and more. Alternatively, guests are welcome to explore on their own with bikes and Nordic walking sticks (free). In addition to the above, Uniworld cruise fares include all onboard meals, unlimited wine and spirits, gratuities, wellness classes, airport transfers, and Wi-Fi. One quick note: While the line technically allows guests older than four, you (most likely) won’t find them — unless, that is, you book one of the Generations sailings, which are specifically designed for multigenerational families.

Swan Hellenic

Courtesy of Swan Hellenic

While this small expedition line — known for its off-the-beaten-path voyages — technically allows guests over eight years old, it’s quite rare to see any children on board since there are no kids clubs. While most famous for its Antarctica and Arctic itineraries, the line also offers itineraries through Central America, Mexico, Peru, Southwest Africa, and the Chilean Fjords. The sailings, while pricey, include regional return flights to the port of embarkation and/or disembarkation, group transfers from the airport to the ship, a one-night pre-cruise stay, all meals onboard, 24-hour room service, onboard lectures, one excursion per port of call, Wi-Fi, gratuities, and select alcoholic beverages. Its fleet of three small ships offers elegant accommodations, dining options, and common areas. Take in the panoramic vistas from the sauna or heated Jacuzzi, or get up close and personal via Zodiac. The line’s new Explore & Restore program, created in partnership with Chopra, helmed by the renowned Dr. Deepak Chopra, is centered around well-being. Grown-ups can enjoy wellness-centric offerings like Ayurveda-inspired meals, expert-guided workshops, and daily meditation.

Not in the Mood to Cruise With Kids? These Adult Sailings Are Totally (or Mostly) Kid-Free

From adults-only cruise lines to itineraries geared specifically to adults, on these cruises you won’t see many or any little ones..

Whether you have kids or grandkids or not, whether you love kids or don’t, sometimes there is just something extremely appealing about the idea of a relaxing cruise vacation minus the youngsters. That’s where adults-only cruises come in.

Back in the late 1990s when Torstein Hagen created Viking River Cruises , now by far Europe’s largest river cruise operator, it was purposely designed for adults with no kids allowed onboard . That philosophy stands as the company has moved into ocean cruises and expedition ships .

Likewise, when British billionaire Richard Branson launched the first ship of his Virgin Voyages cruise brand two years ago, it was with no one under age 18 allowed onboard. The cruise line later riffed on the subject with ads showing kids very displeased that they couldn’t get in on the fun with grownups.

While there are no other major cruise lines that outright ban the under-18 set, there are ways travelers can lessen the chances there will be many or any children on their cruise.

If you really want to avoid kids, don’t cruise during a school break period (such as spring break, summer, or winter holidays), pick an itinerary for more than two weeks (length being a deterrent to the family crowd— world cruise , anyone?), or look toward an ultra-luxurious cruise or one that involves an expensive airfare—not everyone wants to splurge on an upscale experience for their progeny.

Also keep in mind the smaller the ship—and fewer onboard experiences for kids (such as kids clubs and big water slides)—the greater the chance youngsters won’t be onboard. Here are our picks for the best adults-only cruises.

Whether you cruise with Viking on one of the company’s many 190-passenger river cruise vessels in Europe, on the line’s 930-passenger ocean cruise ships that sail around the world, or on one of its two 378-passenger expedition ships, you’ll be treated to a fine-tuned cruising experience that is geared strictly to adults. You need to be age 18 and up to get onboard to enjoy the many perks covered in the all-inclusive fares. Those perks consist of shore excursions in every port, free wine and beer, all meals (including numerous restaurant experiences and nightly seafood buffets), engaging lectures hosted by historians and other experts, and Nordic spas complete with hot sauna, steam room, and a chilly snow grotto.

Virgin Voyages

Adult-only cruises offered by Virgin Voyages take place on three 2,770-passenger ships (a fourth is set to debut in December 2023) that sail the Caribbean, Europe, and the South Pacific. The onboard atmosphere is edgy, cheeky, full of subtle—and not so subtle—sexual innuendo, and fun done in an inclusive, adult way unlike anything the cruise industry has ever seen before . Expect lots of day drinking, lively nighttime parties and entertainment, an onboard tattoo parlor, and indulgent food, including an over-the-top molecular dining experience and the “Lick Me Till . . . Ice Cream” shop (for no extra charge)—in between trips to the wellness retreat with a mud room and ’80s-style aerobics classes for the full detox and retox Virgin experience.

Azamara Cruises

This upscale line with four small ships does not restrict kids but tends to attract well-traveled couples age 50 and up who like the idea of seeing the world from the vantage point of a floating boutique hotel. The onboard atmosphere on Azamara sailings is both convivial and sophisticated, on ships that carry a maximum of 704 guests. The vessels feature a library with faux fireplace, an upscale steakhouse for an elevated dining experience, and a “living room” for drinking and socializing.

Itineraries are focused on maximizing time in port, with cultural immersion including small group shore excursions and “AzAmazing” experiences where, for instance, you and other guests might be treated to complimentary private acrobatics show in Monaco. Special golf cruises with PerryGolf include play at such prestigious courses as Ireland’s Royal Portrush.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

With a fleet of 490- to 750-passenger ships, Regent Seven Seas Cruises is one of the most expensive cruise lines out there and touts that it is “the world’s most luxurious cruise line”—a status it gets by, for instance, outfitting its latest ships with Carrara marble details, crystal chandeliers, over-the-top suites, and multi-million-dollar art collections. Fares include a broad choice of shore excursions such as a mud bath experience in Cartagena, Spain, premium wine and spirits, and business-class international airfare. While the line does not ban kids—and in fact, encourages families at holidays and on summer cruises in Alaska—not everyone wants to pay top dollar for experiences that may go over kids’ heads.

With its sleek ships, a focus on cuisine and drink as a cultural experience, butlers that pamper all guests, and an overall ultra-luxury ambience, Silversea is a favorite of well-heeled adult travelers. Grandparents may bring a multigenerational group onboard for a holiday or summertime sailing (the 596-passenger Silver Muse is the only Silversea ship with a children’s playroom), but with air-inclusive fares that start at around $800 a day, and no discounts for kids, you’re unlikely to have your pool time interrupted by shouts of “Marco Polo.” Rather, you’re more likely to hear someone call an attendant over for more champagne and a side of caviar, both complimentary and available 24/7.

The upscale line’s 148- to 342-passenger ships deliver an intimate, adult atmosphere whether you are on a four- or five-masted ship with billowing sails or an all-suite motorized yacht. Cabins and suites are mostly designed for two and attract couples looking for romance at sea, in addition to excellent dining, enhanced by the line’s status as the official cruise line of the James Beard Foundation. Virgin's New Adults-Only Cruise Line Reveals Tropical Itineraries and Cabin Designs

Billionaire Richard Branson's cruise line sets sail in 2020: Here's everything we know so far

Mackenzie Schmidt is the Home and Travel Editor for PEOPLE. She's worked at PEOPLE for over five years as a writer and editor on the Lifestyle team.

new adults only cruise line

Richard Branson’s first cruise line, Virgin Voyages, is just for sailors 18 and over — and its just-released itineraries and room designs, are appropriately all grown up.

The Scarlet Lady , the first ship launching in 2020 for the adults-only carrier, will be outfitted with an array of over-the-top dining and drinking establishments for adventurous seafarers. But at the end of the night, passengers can also look forward to returning to their rooms, which are designed for continued reveling, according to a release from the brand.

“We didn’t want to create the same old box of a bedroom that our sailors would only use to lay their head down at night, we wanted to reshape the entire cabin experience,” says Dee Cooper, senior vice president of design for Virgin Voyages, in a press release.

Every cabin is equipped with a custom-designed “Seabed,” which Virgin describes as the “first-ever transformational cabin bed at sea,” and is meant to encourage in-room hangouts among new friends.

“The concept of the Seabed came from the convivial nature of cruising, and gives sailors more space for social gatherings,” according to the release. It also eliminates the “unspoken awkwardness” of having no place for guests to sit but on the bed.

That famous mood lighting familiar to those who have flown Virgin America (now part of Alaska Airlines) , also comes into play. Cabin lights will automatically adjust to “enhance the time of day based on where the ship is in the world.”

The ship, which will have a “no tipping” policy , Virgin announced Monday, has 1,330 cabins and 78 “RockStar” suites, with 93 percent of cabins offering an ocean view. Eighty six percent will have a terrace.

There are also special rooms for groups, which have four “chalet-style” bunk beds, and cabins designed specifically with solo travelers in mind.

Virgin Voyages passengers will also have an impressive variety of sailings to choose from in the ship’s inaugural 2020 season.

“We have composed itineraries that have a sense of palpable culture, history and above all induce that carefree feeling that you only get while on holiday,” says Diana Block Garcia, vice president of itinerary and destination development.

The four- or five-night Havana After Dark schedule, allows travelers to explore the culture of Cuba, including an overnight stay in the capital city.

The five-night Mayan Sol itinerary heads to Costa Maya, Mexico, where sailors can disembark to explore ancient ruins and dive at coral reefs.

And the Dominican Daze journey, also five nights, takes travelers to Puerto Plata in the D.R. On the island, they’ll offer trekking, surfing class or, for the more low-key cruiser, shopping excursions for handicrafts.

All the voyages depart will from Miami.

The Scarlet Lady opens for 2020 bookings on February 14. Visit virginvoyages.com for more information.

Introducing Virgin Voyages: A New Adults Only Cruise Line

We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites. Read my full disclosure  here .

The world of ocean cruising is about to be turned upside down – and I am here for it! In October 2021, after MANY months of anticipation, Virgin Voyages, an adults-only cruise line, will be setting sail with its first ship, the Scarlet Lady. But you might be wondering, what is Virgin Voyages and how is this new cruise line different?

Virgin Voyages, New Adults Only Cruise Line

A New Adults only Cruise Line: Virgin Voyages

I am set to sail on Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady in January of 2022, and just toured her during the September 2021 New York City showcase. I have also completed all agent training (to date) on the Virgin Voyages brand . Of course, I cannot wait to sail this incredible new cruise line!

What is Virgin Voyages?

You are probably already familiar with the Virgin brand – the Virgin Atlantic airline , and Virgin hotel chain created by the iconic Sir Richard Branson. Last May I stayed at the Virgin Hotel Dallas , and it was such a fun experience! Great service, fun decor and amazing food – Just like my experience on this newest cruise line !

Virgin Voyages is a new cruise line for adults ONLY (age 18+).

Virgin is aiming to be a floating boutique hotel catering to sophisticated adults who like whimsical touches, but the finer things in life. So this is not some crazy spring break/Girls Gone Wild ship, in fact the target audience is around age 45!

The inspiration for the ships is boutique glamor, much like sailing on a well-appointed yacht (although these ships are huge!). Sophisticated with elevated food, making guests feel like a rock star for their vacation. Virgin is committed to the best emblements of luxury products (the service, quality, and attention to detail) but in a less formal and stiff environment.

Scarlet Lady, the first Virgin Voyages ship

As an adults only ship, all the spaces are for grown ups to play! There are basketball courts, outdoor fitness equipment, a huge gym, group fitness space, tons of bars, and hot tubs everywhere. The food and entertainment is also created ONLY for adults.

Virgin Voyages is setting out to do things differently- and in turn attract a wider audience of both seasoned cruisers, and first timers as well. It seems like they have taken the best of cruising and elevated it. All while taking what folks don’t love about cruising, and turned it on its head!

Virgin Voyages adults only cruise line

What makes Virgin Voyages Different?

Besides being adults only, there are several differences that veteran ocean cruisers will notice right away. Here is a list of things that make Virgin Voyages unique:

  • No buffets – that’s right, all restaurants are ala carte, and there are even some food-truck type eateries for a quick meal or snack.
  • No set main dining tables and times , and no specialty restaurant upcharges – All of the Virgin Voyages’ restaurants are in fact specialty restaurants, open to all sailors on board. For dinner, you can make a reservation (or walk in and maybe wait a bit) just like you could at your favorite neighborhood eatery. On board the inaugural ship, The Scarlet Lady, you will find Mexican, Italian, Vegetarian, and a Steakhouse restaurant… just to name a few! On a 5, 6, 7 night voyage, you will have a new place to eat every night of your stay, with whoever you want, at whatever time fits your schedule.
  • Longer port stays – Virgin Voyage sailors will enjoy late nights at the Beach Club at Bimini and overnights in Ibiza. This will allow you to really explore the destination!
  • In most cabins, the beds convert to sofas for additional living space during the day. This is applicable in interior rooms, sea view (porthole) and sea terrace (balcony). The larger suites have couches and additional seating next to the bed.
  • No drink packages – just reasonable priced beer, wine and cocktails. This allows you to spend YOUR money on whatever type of drink YOU want. No restrictions, and also no tips above the listed price. Most cruise lines do add an auto gratuity to anything you purchase on board. On Virgin Voyages, a $9 glass of wine, costs just that – NINE DOLLARS. Also worth noting, about 47% of their drinks cost less than $10!
  • Tattoo Parlor and Blow Dry Bar on board – what other ship has these?
  • Free WIFI – Yes, all guests can access free WIFI. Suite guests can enjoy premium WIFI.
  • No gratuities – the service charges are already included in your cruise fare – see below.
  • Many cabins for solo travelers (and no single supplement on these rooms). On the Scarlet Lady there are 46 solo cabins – six with a sea view and forty interior. Pay a fair price for one guest and enjoy the solace of your own oasis at sea!

Is Virgin Voyages All-Inclusive?

Like mentioned above, Virgin Voyages has a different payment model than some traditional cruise lines, but like most mass-market ocean cruises, it is not quite all inclusive.

So you might be wondering, what IS included with your Virgin Voyages cruise? Again, Virgin’s goal is to not nickel and dime the sailors, and Virgin’s philosophy is that anything you have to pay “extra” for, should be worth it.

I like that!

What’s Included with Virgin Voyages:

All gratuities – this is huge! Usually its $13-$17 per person, PER DAY in shipboard gratuities but this is already included in your cabin fare. There is also no automatic gratuity on beverages. I heard there is also no cash tipping allowed on board (like at Sandals or Beaches) but I would like to see how this does in fact play out.

Whats Included with Virgin Voyages Cruise

Wi-Fi – Included for all both on board and at the Bimini Beach Club. I would like to think I live in a world where I can go 5-7 days without internet, but let’s be realistic here. Plus having wi-fi makes a work-cation at sea possible!

Group Fitness Classes – This is also a place where some lines upcharge, but with Virgin Voyages, it’s all included.

Soft drinks – On most cruise lines (with the exception of Disney Cruise Line ) soft drinks are NOT included with your cruise fare. But on Virgin Voyages they are.

Virgin Voyages Soda machine

All Dining – Yes, all on board dining venues are included, no upcharge restaurants!

Virgin Voyages Food

Planning a cruise can be tough. There are so many cruise lines, some are big, some are small, all include different things!  Of course, there is your budget to consider as well!

For those reasons, it’s always best to consult with a travel professional to help find the perfect cruise for you next vacation. And the best part? My services are free!

Who should book Virgin Voyages?

Sailing on a cruise line catering to adults only would be the perfect vacation for social groups, bachelor/bachelorette parties, destination weddings or girlfriend getaways!

But honestly, if you are 18 or over, Virgin Voyages has something for you – whether you want to party all night or tuck away in a corner with a good book, I am confident you will enjoy the Virgin Experience.

Virgin Voyages adults only cruise line deck 7

And I’m not just saying that! A Virgin Voyage is YOUR cruise in a sophisticated but relaxed environment. You can do it how you want! Want to sleep in? Great, there are still fitness classes offered all day and afternoon. Want to get up early and seize the day? How about sunrise yoga at dawn? That’s just one example of how Virgin can meet the needs of all its sailors – so you can enjoy YOUR vacation.

Virgin Voyages Lingo

Of course when shaking up an entire industry, you need a whole new vernacular to go with it! Virgin does things their way, including some new lingo. If you need to translate from Virgin Voyages to English, here is a translation guide:

Sea Terrace     =          Balcony Cabin

Sea View          =          Porthole Cabin

Sailors              =          Cruisers

First Mates      =          Travel Agents

PS Virgin Voyages loves travel agents and just like the first mate supports the captain, they know agents are the way to go when booking a cruise !

Sailor Loot       =          On Board Credit

Bar tab              =          Monies in your account for drink purchases

Aquatic Club    =          Pool Area

Richard’s Rooftop =    Private sun deck area for Suite guests

Sea Blazer       =          A 2021 sailor

Circle               =          Social Groups Cruising together

Rock Star Agent   =       Concierge service for suite guests (kind of like a butler)

Three New Virgin Voyages’ Ships

I am sailing the Scarlet Lady in January 2022, and I toured the ship in September 2021 when it was docked in NYC for a few days.  I will be getting out a full review of that ship (it needs its own blog post).

After its stint in New York, the Scarlet Lady will sail down to Miami where it will be doing 4-7 night sailings in the Caribbean. With itineraries like Mayan Sol and Dominican Daze, there are different voyages each week. But each Caribbean sailing will stop at the Beach Club at Bimini, Virgin’s private beach club in the Bahamas . Bimini sounds awesome, and I cannot wait to go – will have to do a full review on that after I visit in January!

Virgin Voyages Aft Balcony

In March 2022, the second ship, the Valiant Lady will debut, sailing Spring/Summer 2022 in the Mediterranean out of Barcelona. These are the itineraries that will include an overnight in Ibiza! I cannot wait to book one of these for myself.

In August 2022, the third Virgin Voyage’s ship will premier – the Resilient Lady who will be sailing the Southern Med out of Athens!

So lots of great things to look forward to in Virgin Voyages’ future.

Tips for Sailing Virgin Voyages: What to know Before You Sail

Having toured the ship, having done all the trainings for Virgin Voyages, and having attended countless webinar trainings on the brand, I can offer you some tips to maximize your cruise experience on Virgin Voyages:

  • Download the Virgin Voyages app and pre-book as much as you can. There are so many fun things on board you don’t want to be shut out. Through the app, you can also order on demand food, to be delivered anywhere on the ship (They had this at Virgin Dallas it was awesome)
  • Speaking of the app – open it, shake and champagne will appear. For reals – try it!
  • Book more than 180 days in advance to receive an automatic 10% discount on your cruise.
  • Pay in full over 180 days in advance to receive an ADDITIONAL 10% discount on your sailing. You can combine these two promotions
  • Book a sailing to sail in 2021 to become a Virgin Sea Blazer – this means you will receive a bonus $125 bar tab on your $300 bar tab purchase, on every cruise you take, FOR LIFE! No limits!
  • Consider booking one of the many suites – you get so many great perks including premium Wi-Fi, 24/7 concierge service, private airport transfers in Miami, access to Richard’s Rooftop, VIP Access at the Beach Club at Bimini, and Priority Access to everything you can pre-book.

Check out my full ship tour:

On a professional, and personal level, I am so excited about this new age of cruising and the introduction of Virgin Voyages to the mass market, ocean cruising scene. I cannot wait to go, and even better get YOU all booked on board. I know my clients are going to love sailing the Virgin way!

Best Adult Only Cruises

  • Honeymooners

adult woman holding champagne on a cruise ship balcony.

In the last few decades, the cruise industry has ballooned into a multi-billion-dollar industry with nearly 30 million people going on cruises every year. It’s also gotten much more diverse than it used to be. You can find a cruise in pretty much every category nowadays, including families with kids , adventurers, foodies and luxury travelers . You can choose everything from room size and onboard facilities, to itineraries and even the general atmosphere of the cruise ship. And another new trend has emerged: adult only cruises .

100% Adult Only Cruise Lines

People who are looking for a relaxing and quiet cruise trip can now opt for adult only cruises. No more yelling children in the pool, or crying toddlers in the restaurants. This relatively new concept has emerged due to the popularity of adult only areas aboard regular cruise ships. It was only a matter of time before this was extended to entire ships.

While most cruise lines still focus on offering family-friendly cruises , there are some that have pioneered adult-only cruises. Their ships are either entirely kid-free or at least their (lack of) kid-friendly facilities keep away traveling families.

Some cruise lines simply have adult-only ships; others still accept children, but definitely have fewer on board.

The key to finding adult-only cruises is looking for those sailings that lack family appeal. Ships without children facilities and cruises with a strong focus on culture, food and history will naturally have far fewer kids onboard.

Below, you’ll find some of the best adult-only cruises available today.

A brand-new addition to, and some would say disruptor of, the cruise industry, Richard Branson’s Virgin Voyages hit the seas in 2020 and is a completely adult-only cruise line . To sail on any of its ships, passengers have to be 18 years or older.

Virgin Voyages offers cruises that are hip, cool and maybe even sexy. Branson himself has said that the goal is to draw in people who’d never have considered going on a cruise before. Cutting-edge amenities range from a test kitchen to the world’s largest daybed at sea to a fancy nightclub.

The Virgin Voyages fleet consists of four ships , each catering to adults 18 years and older. The maiden ship, the Scarlet Lady is a high-end, ultra-modern cruise ship that can accommodate up to 2,770 passengers and has a strong focus on the body and mind. Adults can get pampered at a world-class spa, complete with salt room, hydrotherapy pool, quartz beds, mudroom and the like. Outside, an outdoor sundeck and yoga area will be flanked by a running track. Additionally, the indoor gym, boxing ring and group classes will offer even more physical enjoyment.

Let’s not forget, though, that Virgin Voyages will also feature tons of culinary and entertainment venues. This all to make Virgin Voyages one of the best-ever adult-only cruise lines.

With a strict 18-years-or-older policy, all Viking Ocean Cruises have been adult-only cruises since the very beginning. Ever since they revolutionized the river cruise industry, with stylish ships appealing to an older demographic, they’ve been one of the leading cruise lines for grownups. With itineraries focused on immersion in local culture, cuisine and onshore activities, it’s a fantastic choice for a more sophisticated (and longer) cruise.

Instead of offering all kinds of non-stop entertainment and 24-hour buffet restaurants, Viking Ocean Cruises gives its passengers the chance to actually relax in between ports. They strive to offer, as they themselves put it, “ The Thinking Person’s Cruise “. Every detail you see on board a Viking ship was thoughtfully designed to allow you to completely immerse yourself in the destinations you’re visiting, as well as their culture, art, history and cuisine.

There are tastings of local wines guided by a sommelier, cooking classes and guest lectures. Curated libraries provide the opportunity to read up on everything and anything you’d like. It’s not only about nourishing your intellect, creativity and spirit, though. You can also pamper your body at the on-board fitness center and spa, a sanctuary of typical Nordic wellness featuring a sauna, various pools and baths, and even a snow grotto.

The iconic Viking ships sail all over the world , including the Mediterranean, Scandinavia, the Caribbean and East Asia, and even round-the-world cruises .

While originally a millennial-only cruise line, U by Uniworld changed its age restrictions in 2018 and now offers river cruises in Europe to adults of all ages. They still focus heavily on younger adults in their branding and marketing, though, which sets them apart from other river cruise lines.

Their itineraries are packed with immersive activities, social events and cultural programs, catering perfectly to the millennial lifestyle where experiences are more important than materialism. On their river cruises on the rivers of the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary, you can expect plenty of fun things to do, from countryside bike rides to hands-on cocktail workshops, cultural walking tours and kayaking excursions.

U by Uniworld has numerous river ships, all of which offer unique experiences and elegant spaces. It’s worth highlighting two of them, though. Simply called The A and The B, these ships can accommodate 120 passengers. Made to cruise Europe’s most iconic rivers, they’re not just a floating boutique hotel, but also a water taxi, yoga studio, nightclub, restaurant and bar.

Many of the available on-board activities are also a bit “out of the box” and you won’t find them on any other cruise line. They include things like tent camping on the ship’s rooftop, silent disco parties, and top-deck wine and paint classes in some of Europe’s most picturesque locations.

Mostly Adult Only Cruises With Adult Amenities

In addition to the top adult-only cruise lines above, there are several others that also cater mainly to adults. Although they’re technically not 100% adults only, they do make for a great choice if you’re looking for a more sophisticated and grown-up atmosphere. When you book a cruise with the following cruise lines, you won’t find many kids on board (though there might be the occasional family).

Carnival Cruises Serenity Adult-Only Retreat

The perfect example of what sparked the new adult-only cruise trend is Carnival’s Serenity Adult-Only Retreat . While Carnival is also a family-friendly cruise line, it’s this kind of 21+ retreats that have proven immensely popular among grown-up passengers. You’ll still be at the same ship as the kids, but while they’re participating in a themed event or other kids’ activity, you’ll be swaying in a hammock, sitting at the bar or simply lazing in a sunbed.

Additionally, Carnival Cruises is a great choice for honeymoon cruises , just because of their various adult-only areas. The Alchemy Bar, Piano Bar and Tequila Bar, for example, are accessible only to people 21 years and older, great places to kick back with an adult beverage. For more evening action, you can head to the Nightclub, where DJs spin the latest hits and theme parties are no uncommon.

Alternatively, the Cloud 9 Spa Thermal Suite offers ultimate relaxation with its steam baths, dry heat rooms and other climate-controlled areas.

Although Silversea does accept children older than 6 months, there are little or no kids’ programs on board their ships. Silversea cruises don’t come with childcare services, children’s entertainment or supervision. This in itself greatly limits the number of kids on board their ships.

Instead, Silversea focuses on giving guests a luxurious cruise experience. This is one of the top luxury cruise lines in the world, offering only all-inclusive cruises to amazing destinations. There are butlers, 24-hour gourmet dining options, first-class wine selections and award-winning shows and performances. While not strictly adults-only in theory, in practice, Silversea cruises are essentially high-end cruises for adults.

Another fantastic luxury cruise line, Seabourn also offers all-inclusive cruises focused on adults. On Seabourn ships, there are no children’s programs at all and it’s quite unusual to see families with kids on these cruises. Although parents could take their kids on a Seabourn cruise, they’ll have to entertain and supervise them 24/7 themselves.

This is a great cruise line for travelers looking for an experience-rich cruise on a small, intimate ship. Seabourn offers excellent cuisine, world-class service and relaxed luxury, all in some of the world’s most extraordinary cruise destinations.

Unable to accommodate children younger than 8, while passengers under 21 must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 25 years old, Windstar Cruises also essentially offers adult-only cruises in practice.

The intimate atmosphere and elegant designs of their small cruise ships are adult-oriented and not really suitable for children, especially younger ones. There are no childcare, entertainment or other kid-friendly services on board. Additionally, Windstar also doesn’t offer a child rate—each minor occupying a stateroom as a third person will be charged the applicable “third person rate.”

Instead of focusing on traveling families, Oceania Cruises caters almost exclusively to adult travelers. Infants and children are allowed, however, but there are restrictions and very few services. The minimum age on Oceania Cruises is 1 year, while passengers younger than 18 must be accompanied by and stay in the same stateroom as an adult.

Onboard Oceania’s ships, you’ll find a wide array of adult-focused facilities and services, from a running track and artist loft to a culinary center, library and lecture rooms. Additionally, Oceania is one of the more affordable small-ship cruise lines that cater to adults.

On their website , Azamara “discourages families from sailing with children under 18 years of age, as the on board ambience and experience caters to adults and there are no activities for children or baby-sitting services available.” It doesn’t get more direct and clearer than that, which basically makes Azamara an adults-only cruise line.

Azamara is a fantastic cruise line for grownups who’d like to really immerse themselves in their destination(s), indulge in local cuisine, spend more time in ports and have more overnight stays, and enjoy high-end boutique hotel-like services.

Virgin Voyages: Next Level Adults-Only Cruises

Last updated on September 23rd, 2023 at 07:40 pm

Cruises have long been a popular vacation option for families looking to relax and explore new destinations. One of the newest trends in cruising are ships that cater specifically to adults looking for a more sophisticated and adult-oriented experience.

One such cruise line is Virgin Voyages , which offers cruises for adults only on its sleek and modern ships. The cruise line’s ships are designed for adults only, those 18 and above, with no children allowed on board.

This means that guests can enjoy a more relaxed and sophisticated environment, free from the noise and chaos that can sometimes accompany cruising with children .

Table of Contents

Virgin Voyages is a Relatively New Cruise Line

Virgin Voyages is a relatively new cruise line, having launched in 2020, but it has already made a name for itself with its unique approach to cruising. The company was founded by Sir Richard Branson, the founder of the Virgin Group, and it reflects his bold and innovative spirit.

As of this writing (Jan 2023), Virgin Voyages has four ships in the fleet and all of them are ladies: Scarlet Lady, Valiant Lady, Brilliant Lady and Resilient Lady. All four ships are designed with adults in mind and feature a wide range of amenities and activities that cater to this demographic.

Scarlet Lady and sister ships Valiant Lady and Resilient Lady are in full operation. Brilliant Lady will join the fleet later in 2023. In February of 2022, Virgin Voyages had the grand opening of Terminal V at PortMiami , Florida, from which its fleet will set sail.

Lots Of Entertainment Options

The ships have multiple bars and lounges, including a rooftop lounge with panoramic views, as well as a variety of dining options. There are also spa and fitness centers, which offer a more tranquil and relaxing experience.

One of the standout features of Virgin Voyages’ ships is the variety of entertainment options on offer. The ships feature multiple performance venues, including a theater, a comedy club, and a live music venue.

The cruise line also partners with well-known brands, such as the New York-based comedy club The Comedy Cellar and the Miami-based night club LIV, to offer a range of shows and performances.

Adult-Geared Shore Excursions

In addition to the onboard amenities, Virgin Voyages also offers a range of shore excursions that are designed with adults in mind. These excursions include activities such as wine tastings, cooking classes, and art tours.

The cruise line’s itineraries are designed to take guests to off-the-beaten-path destinations and provide them with a deeper understanding of the places they visit. For example, in addition to visiting popular tourist destinations, the cruise line also offers opportunities to explore lesser-known destinations and meet local people. Bimini, Bahamas , for example is a semi-private area that Virgin Voyages travels to and offers an exquisite adults-only beach day.

The cruise line also works with local partners to offer unique and exclusive experiences, such as a private concert in a historic palace or a VIP tour of a famous art museum.

Sustainability and Options For Exercise

One of the unique things of Virgin Voyages is their focus on sustainability. The company has a number of initiatives in place to minimize its environmental impact, such as using advanced wastewater treatment systems and sourcing food and supplies locally.

They also offer a “Sailor for the Sea” program, which encourages guests to adopt sustainable practices during their cruise. There are many options for exercising onboard, including a running track and a huge exercise facility as well as small exercise “stations” all over the ship.

Speak The Virgin Language

Part of the immersive experience is the terminology used on board. Passengers are “sailors”, balconies are “sea terraces”, the cruise is a “voyage” and travel agents are “first mates.”

There are also multiple restaurants rather than one large dining hall as on most other cruise ships. The atmosphere is more relaxed on the Lady ships, and there is no requirement to dress up for dinner.

Even the crew members on all Virgin Voyages are not in traditional dress. Most wear very casual uniforms which consist of Virgin Voyages t-shirts, jeans and trainers.

Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady

For examples of Virgin’s bid to create a more adult experience, we are going to use Scarlet Lady as a representation of what you might expect on one of their adult cruises.

Scarlet Lady was the first ship built for Virgin Voyages. Her 1,400 cabins can accommodate more than 2,700 passengers and has a crew of 1,160. Scarlet began her voyages in October of 2021.

There is a tattoo parlor on Scarlet that is very popular with sailors, to use Virgin’s terminology. You could certainly get a lasting memento of your voyage there.

Although Scarlet Lady has a pool, some sailors were not at all impressed with the size of the only pool. The outer perimeter of the pool was wading depth, and the pool itself was less than half the entire dimension of the pool area.

There is a circular well-being pool that is supposed to be more like a hot tub experience, but sailors found that it was used more like a pool because of the small size of the other swimming pool.

Cabin Features

Under the desk in your cabin, there is a mini-bar. There is also, in keeping with an adult only ship, a “Time To Play” kit.  For an additional cost ($30 in Jan 2023) you get a few adult toys in this kit.

All of the bar soap in your cabin is going to be black. Whether it is an exclusively adult product might be debatable, but it is certainly unusual.

Some sailors were not impressed with the storage space, or lack of drawers, in the cabin area and others felt it sufficient. There are, however, lots of plugs and USB ports in the cabin.

Technology Is Key

The Virgin Voyage experience also leans heavily on technology. Download the app on your phone and it will help to guide you through the embarkation process, and give you all the onboard menus for the six restaurants.

The app also lets you keep track of your onboard spend and a daily schedule of activities. There is also a tablet in your cabin that will open and close the curtains, adjust temperatures and control the cabin lighting.

Restaurants Onboard Scarlet Lady

Continuing its adult theme, the ice cream parlor on board, which is a bonafide parlor, not the self-serve soft ice cream you find on other cruises, is named “Lick Me Til Ice Cream” and certainly leans heavily on innuendo.

As mentioned before, there are six restaurants on board and no main dining room. Razzle Dazzle (mainly vegan and vegetarian foods) is one of the most popular dining spots, and use the app on your phone to make reservations as the dining room fills up quickly.

While Virgin Voyages says that they don’t have a buffet, they do have an area called The Galley with lots of seating and a variety of food areas, like a food court in a mall. Here your food is made when you order it, and there are self-serve soda machines.

The menus on the app will also clearly display vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options, of which there are plenty on this cruise line menus.

There are, however, no alcohol packages for Virgin Voyages. Cocktails (as of Jan 2023) run about $13 – $15 and $7 to $8 for a beer. A mixed drink is about $10.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Virgin Voyages offers a unique and sophisticated cruising experience for adults. The company’s ships are designed with adults in mind, and the onboard amenities and entertainment options reflect this.

The cruise line’s shore excursions and itineraries are designed to provide guests with a more authentic and immersive experience and the company’s focus on sustainability sets it apart from other cruise lines. For adults looking for a more refined and adult-oriented cruise experience, Virgin Voyages is definitely worth considering.

But before we get into the details of this new cruise line, here's some tea 🐸 ☕️

Earlier this week, a top cruise partner, Carnival Cruise Line posted on Facebook "feeling excited" with a fill in the blank sentence. Another cruise partner had something to say about it, and honestly, we could see their point!

We LOVE planning family vacations on top cruise lines like Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, Princess Cruises and other top cruise lines. Each of these brands has different amenities to appeal to vacationers with young families, families with teens, blended families and multi-generational families.

SO, so funny! So, who is this mystery cruise line that doesn't allow anyone under 18 onboard?

Meet Virgin Voyages, the adults-only cruise line

Virgin Voyages is a new cruise line that is reinventing the cruise experience for adults. Guests can also enjoy healthy food options at a variety of restaurants on board.

Another unique aspect of Virgin Voyages is their commitment to sustainability. The ships are designed with sustainable materials and feature a variety of eco-friendly initiatives, such as a ban on single-use plastics and a wastewater treatment system that produces clean water for use on board.

For entertainment, Virgin Voyages offers a variety of options, from live music performances to immersive theater experiences. Guests can also enjoy outdoor activities such as a rooftop garden, a running track, and a pool deck with a giant screen for movies and sporting events.

Look inside 'spicy' adults-only cruise where couples can swap partners

Look inside 'spicy' adults-only cruise where couples can swap partners

There are a lot more rules than you would expect onboard.

Joshua Nair

Joshua Nair

You've probably heard of these 'spicy cruises' that are available to daring couples, but you probably don't know exactly what it's like to be onboard one.

But you may have heard about some rules on these ships though, and as outlandish and insane as they may sound, they are very strict with them.

So, what exactly is the difference between a spicy cruise and a family cruise then?

Well, apart from some nudity here and there, they're adults-only and have sexual aspects about them.

They aren't fully-blown sex parties - as many are led to believe - but it is different enough for people to be able to tell the difference between booking one of these or a family cruise.

Spicy cruises are often geared towards willing singles and polyamorous couples that are looking for a unique experience, with ships often equipped with 'playrooms' and, of course, 'clothing-optional' areas on board to truly feel free while travelling at sea.

There are even workshops that can help you enhance your 'intimate experience' on board, while you're also free to explore your sexuality by hooking up with other people, or even swing if you're interested.

A TikToker named Bella was onboard one of these Temptation Cruises, and shared that there were themes parties, spa and sauna facilities, and live burlesque shows.

Again, great to hear but the majority of us will never board one of these ships, so what does it look like exactly?

Well, here's the run down of how some of the interior on a Temptation Cruise looks like, as posted by the company themselves.

The bedrooms

It looks pretty standard. (Facebook/Temptation Cruises)

This is where you'll come back to after your activity-filled days onboard, and it looks pretty nice, nothing crazy to see here.

The playrooms

Where the magic happens. (Facebook/Temptation Cruises)

Starting to get to the interesting stuff, these 'playrooms' are where people and couples can engage in group sex activities such as swinging, though it isn't clearly stated on the website.

Dessert delicacies

Something sweet to have after your buffet meals. (Facebook/Temptation Cruises)

This shows off some of the sweet treats you can expect to be spoilt with onboard.

The big reveal. (Facebook/Temptation Cruises)

Very lively here, this is where a lot of the late night events will take place - pool parties, themed parties, you name it - it all happens on the pool deck.

Oh, and clothing is optional here.

The dining area

One of the few PG areas onboard. (Facebook/Temptation Cruises)

This is where you can stuff your face with the ship's top class food on offer, though you will actually have to remain clothed here.

If you were curious as to what some of the other rules were onboard, look no further, here they are.

The Temptation Cruises website states :

  • Upper bikini garments are optional at all pools, sun decks, and designated events.
  • The couples-only Desire Miches Resort Hotspot is the only onboard space that is 100% 'au naturel'.
  • ‘Appropriate attire’ must be worn in all other public areas, including dining facilities.
  • Some guests may want to keep their identities private - because of this, guests are asked that when taking photos and/or video, you only do selfies and close-ups for personal use with no wide angles.
  • Treat other ‘temptationers’ with the utmost respect.
  • The use of drugs is not allowed.
  • Keep noise to a minimum after midnight.
  • All staff members, original affiliates, brand representatives, and any person in a commercial relationship with Temptation are strictly forbidden to interact intimately or drink with guests otherwise face termination or immediate dismissal.
  • Explicit activities are not allowed in any of the public areas.
  • The resort is not responsible for lost items left outside of the safety deposit box located in your room.

Is a Disney cruise for adults? Here are 5 reasons why I say yes

G ourmet French dinners, $5,000 cocktail experiences , serene infinity pools and penthouse suites that cost thousands of dollars a night might not be the first thing you think of when someone mentions a Disney cruise. But you'll find it all on Disney ships.

I sailed with the line for the first time more than a decade ago, and I didn't want to take the assignment. I'm a child-free adult, I'm not a particularly over-the-top Disney fan, and all I could imagine was a theme park at sea — characters everywhere, souvenir shops galore and, of course, tons of kids.

Simply, I was wrong.

What I found was an absolutely wonderful experience on an elegant ship with superb service, phenomenal entertainment, delicious food and just enough subtle magic to instill a bit of childlike wonder without making me feel immature.

Disney Cruise Line has maintained its four older ships exceptionally well, and its newest vessel, Disney Wish — its first new-build in 10 years — is also pretty great. Across the board, my opinion still stands: Disney cruises aren't just for kids. So, if you're trying to find a Disney cruise for adults, don't worry — they all fit the bill. Here are five reasons why you'll love the experience, even as a grownup.

For more cruise news, guides and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

You control how 'Disney' you want it to be

Let me allay your fears: When you sail with Disney, you won't be overwhelmed by Mickey and friends the way you might be at the brand's land-based amusement parks. However, that experience is available should you choose to seek it.

The subtlety with which Disney manages to incorporate branded touches on its ships is commendable and classy. You'll find nods to various Disney animated movie classics as you move between decks — a pumpkin on the carpet here, a snowflake on the wall there — but you're likely to find it more tasteful than obnoxious.

If you'd like to avoid a largely Disney-fied ambience, it's easy to do. If, instead, you prefer a more immersive cruise, you're also in luck, as the ships host scheduled character meet-and-greets, themed dining experiences and more.

There are tons of adults-only spaces

Grownups who wish to keep strictly to an older crowd will love the adults-only venues on all Disney ships.

On Disney's four older vessels — Disney Dream , Disney Fantasy (which is my pick for the best Disney cruise ship for adults ), Disney Wonder and Disney Magic — adults-only bars and nightclubs are clustered into one area, known as The District. After 9 p.m., nobody younger than 18 is permitted inside, allowing the more mature set to let its hair down sans kids.

On Disney Wish, the age-limited spaces are more spread out, a purposeful layout designed to help alleviate crowding and improve traffic flow. Personally, I prefer The District's setup, but the watering holes on the new ship are, frankly, the most impressive in the fleet to date.

What's impressive about these offerings is that most other ships don't have them. Apart from Virgin Voyages , Viking , P&O Cruises and Saga Cruises, all of which sail adults-only vessels , the most other lines offer is an adults-only sun deck or pool here and there. Even where those areas exist, age limits aren't always strictly enforced, and sometimes you have to pay for access, none of which is the case on Disney ships.

Even the least expensive accommodations are elevated

Disney cruises are a cut above the sailings you'll find with most other mainstream lines. When it comes to accommodations, even the most basic feel elevated. All have two bathrooms; one has a shower with a tub (rare on cruise ships) and a sink, and the other has a toilet and a sink.

Disney provides its own brand of toiletries in cabin bathrooms. The products are so popular — they smell divine — that the line sells them in its onboard gift shops.

All rooms also offer a dividing curtain that creates two separate areas. Although these features were designed with families in mind, they're also convenient for friends traveling together, adding to the argument that a Disney cruise could make for a perfect girlfriends getaway.

On the high end, the line sells a variety of suite accommodations. New on Disney Wish, the Tower Suite is the most coveted and most expensive, carrying a price tag of several thousand dollars per night.

Located in the ship's fake funnel, the suite is two decks high and includes three bedrooms, three-and-a-half baths and a large living room area. Its understated nautical decor pays subtle tribute to "Moana." Unfortunately, because of the layout, there's no balcony, but you'll still be spoiled beyond belief if you book a stay there.

You can also choose to book concierge-level staterooms , which offer perks like priority boarding and disembarkation, access to a dedicated lounge with free drinks in the evenings and dibs on booking the best spa appointments and shore excursions.

Delicious dining options range from basic to gourmet

Disney Cruise Line's dining options allow you to either join the masses (where there will be children, so take heed) in the free dining rooms, head to the buffet or open-air food court, or opt for an adults-only added-fee option.

On all of the fleet's ships, standard dining is rotational, which means you'll move to a different main dining room each night but with the same table number, tablemates and waitstaff.

In my experience, dining across the board on Disney ships has been absolutely scrumptious and well prepared, regardless of where I chose to eat and how much extra I paid.

On Disney Wish, 1923 is a throwback to the golden age of animation. Split into two parts, it offers a more intimate setting than what you'd find at Royal Court, the more understated free dining venue on the line's other vessels.

For more immersive and somewhat gimmicky meals that are fun but often loud, adult passengers on Disney Wish will want to check out Worlds of Marvel and Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure . The former brings Ant-Man and The Wasp tableside (via prerecorded broadcast) to show off their new discovery — a Quantum Core, with which Ant-Man unwittingly shrinks the ship down to the size of a toy boat. During the latter, you'll find much singing and dancing to celebrate the engagement of Anna and Kristoff, two of the main characters from "Frozen." In line with the theme, the menu is largely Norwegian.

On the four original ships, immersive options include Animator's Palate, where "Finding Nemo" characters talk with you as you eat; Enchanted Garden, which feels a bit like a scene from "Alice in Wonderland," where you can watch as the scenery slowly turns from day to night; and Rapunzel's Royal Table, where characters from "Tangled" make an appearance.

Also on the original vessels, Palo is an adults-only Italian eatery . On Disney Wish, it has been transformed into an elegantly styled steakhouse that exudes "Beauty and the Beast" vibes. This is the perfect option for anyone who wants something less casual than the buffet but also wants to avoid crowds and noise in the main dining rooms without paying a fortune.

Before you go in, stop at The Rose bar, which is perfect for tasty pre-dinner cocktails.

Enchante and Remy are two of the most expensive alternative dining options at sea for any cruise line. Both feature French cuisine and are reserved exclusively for adult diners. The latter appears on older DCL ships and was inspired by (and named after the main character in) "Ratatouille."

Enchante is new as of the debut of Disney Wish. It offers a completely revamped menu by chef Arnaud Lallement, who's also the mastermind behind the menu at Remy. Enchante allows for a la carte dining, or you can choose from one of two experiences: Passion, a seven-course meal for $125, or Collection, a selection of surprise courses curated by the chef for $195. (Wine and Champagne pairings cost extra.)

The kids clubs are fantastic

"But, wait," you're thinking. "I thought this was an article about why Disney Cruises are great for adults." You're exactly right, and that's why this one is so important.

The Oceaneer Club offerings on Disney ships are so fun, engaging and technologically advanced that kids often don't want to leave. So, whether you're a parent looking for some downtime or a child-free adult who doesn't appreciate little ones pushing all the elevator buttons or teens clogging up stairwells, you won't have to worry about a barrage of younger passengers.

From babysitting for infants, kids and tweens to phenomenal play areas (think: themes like princesses, Marvel superheroes and "Star Wars"), the line's childcare services are a cut above those provided by all other cruise brands. In fact, they're so cool you'll wish you could spend time there yourself — and you can during designated hours on each voyage.

Bottom line

Although you won't be able to completely avoid children on Disney ships, you can still enjoy the magic of The Mouse in several adults-only spaces found on all of the line's ships. The onboard experience will make you feel like a kid again but in luxurious surroundings and with the excellent service and attention to detail that have become hallmarks of the Disney brand.

How to visit Australia without flying: Holland America launches new Grand Voyage

new adults only cruise line

The long-haul flight can be enough to keep some U.S. travelers from visiting Australia . But a new Holland America Line itinerary will offer an alternate route.

The cruise line’s Grand Australia and New Zealand voyage will sail round-trip from San Diego, California in 2026, taking guests down under and back over 93 days.

"Our Grand Voyages are renowned for connecting guests with the world's most fascinating places while sailing roundtrip from the United States," Beth Bodensteiner, the line’s chief commercial officer, said in a news release . "Our team crafted this itinerary to show guests the parts of Australia and New Zealand they expect to visit, but also included frequently asked for, but rarely visited, ports throughout Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands."

When is Holland America’s Grand Australia and New Zealand voyage?

The cruise will depart on Jan. 4, 2026 aboard the line’s 1,432-guest Zaandam ship.

Where will the cruise sail?

The ship will visit 44 ports in 10 countries. Passengers will make their way to Hawaii first before heading to the South Pacific. The ship will then visit Australia – almost circling the country – and New Zealand, followed by Tonga and French Polynesia on the way back to San Diego.

The itinerary features two days of scenic cruising at the Great Barrier Reef and four late-night departures in Adelaide, Australia and the French Polynesian islands of Moorea, Raiatea and Huahine. Guests will also stay overnight in six ports, including Honolulu, Sydney and Auckland, giving them ample time to explore.

Short vs. long cruises: Which one is right for you?

How much does the cruise cost?

The cruise currently starts at $17,699 per person based on double occupancy, according to Holland America’s website . Travelers who book by June 16, 2025 can get perks like a Surf Wi-Fi package, airport transfers in San Diego, a 3% pay-in-full discount and more thrown in (though they vary by stateroom category).
