'Barbie' Global Tour Will Take Margot Robbie & Ryan Gosling to Eight Cities Around the World
Grab your rollerblades, Barbie and Ken are coming to a city near you.
What's Barbie About?
While the iconic doll has had her fair share of animated films for at-home viewing, this will be the first time a live-action adaptation will make its way into theaters. Starring Robbie and Gosling as the film’s main Barbie and Ken, respectively, the storyline follows Barbie after she’s been booted from Barbieland, given no choice but to make it in the real world. Boasting a star-studded cast, the film will also feature performances by Simu Liu , Kate McKinnon , John Cena , Dua Lipa , Issa Rae , Rhea Perlman , Will Ferrell , Kingsley Ben-Adir , Michael Cera , and so many more. The third feature from Gerwig, Barbie follows the director’s successful and Academy Award-nominated films, Lady Bird and Little Women .

NEWS... BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
Margot Robbie’s most iconic Barbie press tour outfits, ranked
Share this with
The Barbie movie hits screens today, following months of teasers and interviews from the star-studded cast.
While the onslaught of pink may have given some people fuchsia fatigue, for fashion fans it’s been a candy-coloured dream.
Margot Robbie , who plays the titular character, has been serving looks upon looks throughout the promotional efforts, taking inspiration from the iconic Mattel doll .
The actress was styled by Andrew Mukamal for the tour, with designers like Versace, Moschino, Miu Miu and Manolo Blahnik queuing up to dress her.
‘Barbie is truly iconic, so when asked to provide shoes for the wonderful Margot Robbie, whom I adore, I wanted to update some of my most successful designs that have been in my collections for decades, with a Barbie twist of course,’ footwear extraordinaire Blahnik told Bazaar.
Stylist Andrew worked Barbie into Margot’s outfits by recreating some of the most well-known dolls, commissioning couture works and handpicking vintage pieces that fit the bill.
He’s also credited with bringing Barbiecore to the masses, so think of him next time you’re wondering why the high street is chock-full of bubblegum and baby pink hues.
These are some of our favourite ensembles Margot Robbie has been spotted in ahead of Barbie’s release.
1. Vivienne Westwood in London
Of course this one had to come in top, from the way it replicated a classic Barbie to the sheer drama of the whole look.
For the Barbie premiere in London ’s Leicester Square, Margot wore a stunning Vivienne Westwood Couture Moonlight gown, paying homage to the 1960s Enchanted Evening Barbie.
The dress, in blush pink satin, featured a structured corset, an elegant side train, and fluffy embroidered white tulle around the shoulder.
She accessorised with white ivory opera gloves, a rose brooch at the waist, Christian Louboutin heels, and a pearl choker by Assael estimated to be worth a whopping £35,000.
2. Schiaparelli for the LA premiere
Proving Barbie doesn’t need to be in pink, the actress wowed in custom Schiaparelli Haute Couture on the Los Angeles pink carpet .
Inspired by the 1960 Solo In The Spotlight doll, Margot’s black strapless gown showcased shimmering sequins and a dramatic tulle hem, the dark shade in perfect contrast with a red lip and red rose embellishment.
Every detail was considered, from the sheer handkerchief to the Hollywood wave updo – and we can’t help but covet that stunning Lorraine Schwartz diamond choker necklace.
3. Emilio Pucci in Mexico
It’s admittedly less glam than some of the ensembles in Margot’s Barbie wardrobe, but it does exactly what it needed to do.
Channelling the 1990s Totally Hair Barbie for a photocall in Mexico, the Australian star donned a bright printed mini dress by Emilio Pucci, candy pink Taffin jewellery, and fuchsia Manolo Blahnik stilettos.
Although her hair ( which has started a trend for ‘ocean waves’) was the star of the show, the overall effect is as faultless and fun as we’ve come to expect from Margot this press tour.
4. Moschino in Seoul
Moschino and Barbie are natural bedfellows, so it’s understandable we’ve seen the fashion house as part of the promotion for the movie.
For a press conference in Seoul, Margot’s style mirrored the 1964 Sparkling Pink doll, complete with a crystal-studded crop top, skirt and jacket from Moschino’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection
The heart-shaped quilted bag, Manolo peep-toes and and matching pillarbox bow hat were the cherry on top, bringing the ‘fit to a respectable fourth place.
5. Versace in Seoul
In at number five, this is actually two looks in one, as Margot and stylist Andrew were keen to reference the 1985 Day to Night Barbie, which came with an outfit change.
Both ensembles were custom by Versace: the first a signature pink power suit, paired with a spotty boater hat and bedazzled ’80s-style phone clutch, and the second a feminine dress with a crystal bodice and floaty tulle skirt.
6. Hervé Léger in Sydney
What. A. Look.
We saw Margot sporting this monochrome minidress by king of the bodycon, Hervé Léger, while promoting the Greta Gerwig film in her native Australia.
Inspired by the original 1959 Barbie doll, it was the perfect way to honour the Mattel toy, in contrasting stripes and with a pair of Manolos and some surfer sunnies to match.
7. Balmain in Mexico City
A look had to be in the top 10 given the sheer attention to detail alone – but of course it also looks incredible.
At the Mexico premiere, Margot celebrated her character with yet another on-point impersonation.
This time it was Earring Magic Barbie, with a neon leather and mesh Balmain dress and silver accents (like a belt and statement earrings) that were so close to the original it was genuinely uncanny.
8. Valentino in Beverly Hills
While many of the sartorial references were from vintage Barbies, Margot and her stylist Andrew used a more modern doll as their muse for one event in LA.
Standing beside a pink classic car (naturally) Margot wore custom Valentino, the look resembling the 2015 Pink and Fabulous Barbie with pink and white polka dots and even a life-size version of her yellow plastic handbag.
We love the fresh take on the cut and length, which makes the actress’ legs look they go on forever.

9. Dilara Findikoglu in London
After wowing at the London premiere, Margot changed into something a little less pink… but still plenty Barbie and very much a winning style.
Carrying on the celebrations, she wore a corseted red mini by Turkish-British designer Dilara Findikoglu, alongside Assael earrings and a Maison Ernest bag in tonal satin.
The afterparty ensemble echoed the Brunette Bubble Cut doll, whose signature hue was standout scarlet, released by Mattel in 1962.
11. Vintage Versace in Sydney
Adding a little sparkle to a Barbie party hosted by Vogue Australia at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney, Margot went for a stunning Versace mini from the designer’s A/W 1994 runway.
Keeping the drama on the dress, she went with Manolo Jadifa heels and delicate Jessica McCormack jewellery. It’s a simple but effective look that we’ll all be emulating come party season.
When it comes to the Barbie inspiration, Barbie Fashion Fever from 2008 and Happy Birthday Barbie from 2019 both wear similarly sparkly frocks.
12. Moschino in Sydney
While doing press in her native Australia, Margot was spotted in this adorable 2019 Moschino halter dress.
Although it’s giving ’50s vibes, it’s actually reminiscent of a 2002 Barbie Fashion Avenue cherry-print frock (albeit with a shorter hemline) and a more fitted Mattel dress from 1998 covered in bright red strawberries.
Perhaps it’s the dress, or maybe the star’s vintage-inspired hairdo and snatched waist, but it makes us yearn for a retro fashion revival.
13. Prada in Las Vegas
During CinemaCon in April, we say Margot’s first Barbie outfit from the film’s promotion, and it’s a pretty meta reference to the iconic toy (which wins major points in our book).
The pink gingham co-ord, as well as alluding to the similar number in the movie trailer, appears to be a play on the new Margot Robbie Barbie doll made by Mattel in her likeness. Adorable.
She accessorised the two-piece with bright pink Christian Louboutin heels and Jessica McCormack heart earrings, adding a matching checked coat later in the day.
14. Vivienne Westwood in London
Another Westwood showstopper, this ensemble appears to be a twist on the 1963 Golden Elegance Barbie, from the detailing at the cuffs to the eye-catching brocade-style print.
Margot sported Vivienne Westwood’s Gexi Spencer jacket and foam corset skirt for a photocall in London, opting for a fuzzy pink bag and shoes to add an unexpected element to the otherwise feminine suit.
An undoubtedly dreamy outfit.
15. Versace in Mexico
This stunning ensemble, worn for an event in Mexico, looks like a callback to theVintage Pink Sparkle Barbie from 1967.
The look features a Versace La Greca mini dress, Versace bag, a Chanel anklet and Louboutin Me Dolly shoes just like those donned by the doll.
Plus points here for sophistication, but minus because it’s slightly too easy.
16. Carolina Herrera in Seoul
Margot was interviewed by YTN, a South Korean news network, wearing a simple yet colourful Carolina Herrera belted shift dress and Spinelli Kilcollin hoop earrings priced at £6,154.
With notes of green and bright pink, it’s an outfit not unlike the one worn byfrom the Mod collection of 1968. It would have ranked higher had there been a matching jacket too.
17. Versace in Seoul
Stylist Andrew shared this photo of Margot in a Versace Cavalry waistcoat and skirt, a neon Judith Leiber bag, and matching Manolo Houramu stilettos in South Korea.
There are a few Mattel dolls this look may have taken inspiration from; Barbie Cut and Style from 1994, Barbie Share a Smile from 1996, and Barbie Make a Valentine from 1998.
The complementary colours and bold hardware are just two reasons this two-pieceis peak Barbie. Dare we say, though, it’s a little samey alongside the dramatic pieces we’ve seen so far.
18. Balmain in Mexico
At a Q&A following the Mexico premiere, we saw Margot in a Balmain x Barbie tweed two-piece created specifically for the movie.
While the cut of the crop and skirt differ, Barbie fanatics will recognise the colour and texture from the 1968 Snug Fuzz doll, although this Barbie’s shoes were grey whereas these are hot pink Manolo Blahnik Houramu numbers.
We wish we could’ve seen more of this look, but alas it only made a short appearance in the public eye.
19. Vintage Versace in Sydney
It was Versace again for Margot in Sydney, this time in a lilac metallic pleated skirt from the Italian fashion house’s Autumn/Winter 1994 collection.
Keeping things preppy, she paired the piece with a turtleneck jumper, purple socks and heeled loafers. And, keeping to the theme, it’s definitely an homage to the Barbie Silver Sparkle doll which first went on sale in 1969.
Some may balk at the socks here, but that’s actually a pro for us. That said, it’s hard for a casual look to break through the noise of all the formal ‘fits on display.
20. Paco Rabanne in London
https://www.instagram.com/p/Cuq2J84Io1G/?hl=en
Perhaps a more subtle nod to her character (which may be where it falters) Margot wore a pink Paco Rabanne dress for an interview with Kiss FM, where she told Love Island narrator Iain Stirling of her love for the UK show.
The dress seems to be a callback to the 1966 Dreamland Barbie, who wore a strikingly similar nightgown with a square neckline and floral embellishment.
Very wearable, just not particularly distinctive.
21. Miu Miu in Australia
Not all the sartorial tributes on the press tour were for Barbie, as this Miu Miu suit proves. In fact, it appears to be a doppelganger of her mate, Teresa, who was part of a Glam ‘N Groom range sold from 1999.
Margot’s Miu Miu two-piece is in the same baby blue tweed and has statement buttons and a fitted pencil skirt. Teresa came with a long-haired dog you could groom, though, so we can’t award full points.

50 shades of pink! A breakdown of Margot Robbie’s best Barbie world tour outfits
If ever there was a brand synonymous with pink , it’s Barbie . As such, there’s no surprise that Margot Robbie , who plays the doll in the forthcoming eponymous movie directed by Greta Gerwig , has embraced the shade at every stage of the global press tour. With the help of her stylist Andrew Mukamal, the Australian actress has taken inspiration, and in some cases custom pieces, from some iconic designers including Valentino, Versace and Chanel.
Last night in London at the film’s UK premiere the actress brought to life 1960 ‘Enchanted Evening’ Barbie (later reproduced in the mid-90s), alongside championing leading British label, Vivienne Westwood. Tapping the brand to create a custom-made corseted dress, in blush-pink satin, styled with a Marilyn Monroe-style white stole.
One of the few departures from pink in Robbie’s tour-drobe, was at the Barbie world premiere at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in downtown Los Angeles last weekend, with the 33-year-old wearing black as she recreated the original Barbie ‘Solo in the Spotlight’ doll from the same year (1960). The sparkling strapless gown, which was custom Schiaparelli, included a ‘trumpet’ tulle hemline complete with a red rose, while Robbie accessorised with long black opera gloves and a Lorraine Schwartz diamond choker.
Her earliest promo event for Barbie was in April, at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Robbie clearly started as she meant to go on in a pink and white gingham Prada cropped bustier and wrap miniskirt set with her hair swept into a side parting. She wore the Me Dolly Louboutin peep-toes in pink (and not for the last time). A peep-toe pump from Christian Louboutin or Manolo Blahnik is fast becoming a footwear staple on the press tour.
Robbie has been ambassador for Chanel since 2018, while Mukamal is a celebrity stylist and former staffer for the fashion desk at Seventeen magazine. He has worked with the likes of Zoe Kravitz, Kaia Gerber and Lily-Rose Depp. His Instagram is testament to his versatility as a stylist, from denim basics on Hailey Bieber for a Levis sitting, to classic red-carpet glamour for Carey Mulligan. His work with Robbie for Barbie is meticulously observed, consistently on point, and packed with historical references.
There are no days off, with Robbie channelling Barbiecore even in transit
The LA press call for Barbie, for example, saw Robbie in a bespoke pink and white polka dot dress with a crossover bodice made bespoke by Valentino; a look inspired by 2015’s Pink & Fabulous doll. She carried a Valentino rockstud shoulder bag and wore white Blahnik stilettos. However, the best accessory was surely her pink and white open-top Chevrolet.
The car was also the backdrop to another flawless ensemble — a two-piece custom-set featuring a pleated mini and bralette, a small, woven tote by Bottega Veneta and Blahnik peep toes.
Through the tour, it’s clear Robbie is keen to celebrate Barbie in every era. The doll’s 1959 origin look was replicated in Sydney on the Australian leg of the press tour, with a custom-made black and white striped bandeau dress by Herve Leger. Robbie’s hair was swept off her face ahe she accessorised with black peep-toe Blahnik pumps and white ‘cat eye’ Jacques Marie Mage sunglasses.
She served up more 50s on Bondi Beach in a Moschino halter neck, belted minidress with a juicy strawberry motif pattern from Jeremy Scott’s 2019 collection, completed with white sunglasses, bag and peep-toe Louboutins.

Then the 1990s came calling and Robbie answered via Versace, in a look first showcased by supermodel Christy Turlington some 30 years ago. This consisted of a cropped, rollneck woollen sweater, bright pink socks and white patent loafers.
She leant further into Versace’s archives and wore a dazzling pale pink couture dress from the autumn/winter 1994 collection with a fitted corset and flared skater-style skirt.
At the Seoul press conference, Robbie wore an acid bright Moschino suit from the brand’s spring/summer 2015 collection complete with a super-kitsch, heart-shaped bag and pillbox hat. Then, at the film’s Seoul premiere, Robbie transformed into ‘business Barbie’, borrowing the look from one of the 1980s most iconic dolls. In a pencil skirt and blazer, clutching a glittery ‘brick’ mobile phone, it was corporate, but make it Barbie.
The Mexico City photocall saw Robbie in a printed Emilio Pucci minidress with Chanel earrings and handbag in different shades of pink. Her hair was loose with waves: the entire look was a clear ode to the 1992 Totally Hair Barbie.
Later, for the Mexico City premiere, Robbie wore a bodycon Balmain mini dress made from leather and mesh with a silver belt detail and star motif earrings. The look was inspired by another 1990s doll the “Earring Magic” Barbie.
Robbie — and Mukamal — have not only understood the assignment, but they are also consistently overdelivering in the run up to the film’s release. There are no days off, with Robbie channeling Barbiecore even in transit. She has been seen wheeling baby pink luggage through the airport in Sydney and, on another occasion, embracing a more relaxed travel aesthetic in an oversized pink Gucci x Adidas sweatshirt and stacked platform sliders.
The best thing about all of this pink, peep-toe promotion is that it let’s us know exactly what sartorial delights we can expect in the film itself. Watch this space.
Barbie is released in UK cinemas on July 21

Margot Robbie Ended Her "Barbie" Press Run in 6-Inch Hairy Platform Heels
Margot Robbie's "Barbie" press tour looks are a sight to behold, but given the lineup of costumes featured in the Greta Gerwig-directed movie , that should come as no surprise. While Robbie's onscreen character is outfitted by Jacqueline Durran for the film, the 32-year-old Australian actress and producer works with stylist Andrew Mukamal for event dressing. Mukamal has been sharing behind-the-scenes snippets on Instagram of each look, and it's a visual feast for any fan of the Barbiecore trend and the doll's wardrobe in general.
Working alongside the rest of Robbie's glam squad that includes hairstylist Bryce Scarlett , makeup artist Pati Dubroff , and manicurist Tom Bachik , Mukamal is making sartorial magic. Pulling from the current runways and archival designs, he's created a wardrobe that feels like it's pulled from Barbie's own closet. At the LA press junket on June 25, Robbie embraced Barbie's favorite print, arriving in a polka-dot, Valentino-pink minidress with an ab cutout at the center. Later, she piled on the doll-worthy accessories , adding a Barbie car, white retro sunglasses, stiletto mules, and Bottega Veneta's pink Cabat bag to a bra-and-skirt set.
Robbie's latest look is just as glamorous. For the "Barbie" London photo call on July 13, Robbie wowed in a Vivienne Westwood floral-print skirt suit. The design featured a plunging jacket and miniskirt with red trim and matching arm cuffs. She completed the look with a box handbag and 6-inch platform heels covered in a pink hairy texture that added a bit of personality and charm. Her beauty details were also Barbie-inspired with a soft-pink makeup look from Pati Dubroff and Old-Hollywood waves created by Bryce Scarlett.

We all know that the plot of this summer's Barbie movie (in theaters July 21) revolves around Barbie and Ken swapping Barbie's Dreamhouse for the real world. (Although, if we're honest, we'd love to swap our world for Barbieland for a bit). And thanks to the newest announcement from Barbie the Movie 's Instagram, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling (who play Barbie and Ken, respectively) will be taking a trip around our world, just like their characters.
See on Instagram
"You don't have to go all the way to Barbieland to hang with Barbie and Ken," Robbie says in the promo.
"Margot and I are taking this show on the road," Gosling adds.
The film hits theaters on July 21, but the Barbie team is doing more than just one big premiere — they're doing eight premieres. Films often host premieres in different countries, allowing fans all over the world to be a part of the experience. And Barbie the Movie is no different.
Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling will embark on a world tour that, in addition to the usual New York City and Los Angeles, includes six more cities:
- Toronto, Canada
- Sydney, Australia
- Seoul, South Korea
- Mexico City, Mexico
- London, England
- Berlin, Germany
Not only does the promo give us that exciting news, but it also features some amazing fashion choices, just like we've seen throughout the entire promotional process. From CinemaCon to showing the cast their own IRL Barbie dolls , the fashion choices have put creativity at the forefront. Well, creativity and pink, of course.
We're obsessed with Robbie's corset and mini skirt (a combo fit for a Barbie doll if you ask us). Gosling is also rocking pink, just a more laidback salmon that will definitely influence our next swimsuit cover up purchase.
And, just like us, the pair also has their summer packing list top of mind: "Are you packing your roller blades?" Robbie asks, to which Gosling gives her a smirk. "You know I can't roller blade in real life."

Barbie takes over London as major landmarks get huge pink makeover for European premiere
Virgin Radio

The Barbie press tour has officially landed in London, and some of the capital’s biggest landmarks have had a Barbie Land makeover!
Ahead of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling’s arrival for the pink carpet at tonight’s (12th July) European Premiere of Barbie, the likes of the London Eye and Tower Bridge have styled out a brand new look especially for the event.
London’s black cabs have even been ‘Barbie-fied’ with bright pink imagery, so expect to see Barbie (and just Ken) riding around the City, as well as huge billboards with eye-catching blush colours.
The first landmark to get a taste of Barbie World was Tower Bridge, which received its very own hot pink Tardis, perfect for an incoming Doctor Who!
The beloved BBC franchise even got in on the fun, sharing a photo of the unmissable set-up with the caption: “Come on TARDIS, let’s go party.”
While it might seem rather random, there is some logic behind the inclusion of a 60-year-old sci-fi series. Incoming Doctor Ncuti Gatwa will appear as one of many Kens in Barbie before embarking on his Tardis journey.
Meanwhile, the infamous Barbie car made its way down to the London Eye, which will no doubt capture the attention of those on the dizzyingly-high attraction.
Finally, who can skip out on including a brilliant pink pun? Well it seems that the whole of Barbican has had the Barbie treatment too, with the Underground signs taken over by rose-coloured lettering to indicate that you have just arrived at ‘Barbie-can’.
Speaking to the publication about the incredible pink explosion across London, Alexandra Lewis, SVP for Marketing at Warner Bros, said: “Barbie is one of the most highly anticipated films of the year and we’re proud to be partnering with Visit London to create a unique cultural moment for the film: turning the city pink!
“We’re thrilled to be able to provide the general public with a chance to celebrate the film’s upcoming release in such a fun way and visit iconic landmarks in what will surely be a night to remember.”
Keep an eye on virginradio.co.uk for all the latest from the Barbie European Premiere tonight and tomorrow (13th July)!
Barbie is out in cinemas from 21st July.

Margot Robbie continues to deliver nostalgic looks while on the “ Barbie ” press tour, this time arriving at the London premiere on Wednesday wearing a custom number inspired by the original 1960s Mattel doll “Enchanted Evening.”

Robbie’s latest outfit joins a slew of other fashion moments where she has referenced the iconic doll. The film, which debuts in theaters on July 21, features an ensemble cast including Ryan Gosling, Will Ferrell, Emma Mackey, Dua Lipa, Hari Nef, Simu Liu and Ncuti Gatwa. The movie’s soundtrack is just as star-studded, featuring tracks from Charli XCX, Tame Impala, Ice Spice, Lizzo and Haim.
Gerwig cowrote “Barbie” with her longtime partner Noah Baumbach. The couple previously collaborated on the screenplay for their 2012 dramedy “Frances Ha.”

Margot Robbie Takes Everyone’s Breath Away in Last ‘Barbie’ Press Tour Outfit Before Actors Strike
The summer movie's pre-release press run has ended early.

Robbie said at the film's London premiere that she would “absolutely” be part of the strike.
“I'm very much in support of all of the unions,” she told Sky News . “And I'm a part of SAG so I would absolutely stand by that.” ( LaineyGossip pointed out that Robbie wore an outfit recreated from a 1960 Barbie doll at that premiere, which was also the last year that both the writers' and actors' guilds in Hollywood were on strike at the same time. The choice may be a subtle and clever styling nod to the history that was made then and will be made now.)
The Barbie press tour was supposed to go longer; Barbie was slated to have a Berlin and New York City premiere as part of its global press tour, as Ryan Gosling and Robbie announced in June. The cast already did appearances in Sydney, Toronto, Seoul, Mexico City, and London.
Unless a contract is negotiated swiftly — which seems unlikely, given how SAG characterized negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers leading up to the strike during its press conference — those cities' premieres, if they are still on at all, will not include have appearances from the cast.
Robbie's Barbie fashion run featured her recreating outfits from several iconic Barbies, from 1992 dolls in Mexico to the first-ever Barbie released in 1959 in Australia.

Margot Robbie's 'Barbie'-inspired Golden Globes and press tour outfits: All the photos
"Barbie" is up for several trophies this awards season.
Margot Robbie has channeled many iconic Barbie-inspired looks during the global press tour for "Barbie" in the past.
Continuing to celebrate her role and the success of the movie, Robbie appeared on the red carpet at the 2024 Golden Globes on Sunday, donning a full Armani sequin outfit , a tribute to Barbie's 1977 signature superstar look.
Before the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists strike began on July 14, 2023, Robbie paid tribute to many famous Mattel dolls from the past while on the "Barbie" press tour to promote the film. For inspiration, Robbie replicated vintage looks pulled from the fashion archives.
For the European premiere of "Barbie" in London earlier this month, Robbie transformed into the 1960s Enchanted Evening Barbie doll.

To channel the vintage doll, she wore a custom look from Vivienne Westwood.
Following the premiere, she switched to another look from Turkish-British designer Dilara Findikoglu, which referenced a red swimsuit-wearing Barbie from 1962.
With the help of her stylist Andrew Mukamal, Robbie's "Barbie" style has included references to everything from pieces different dolls have worn over the years to runway looks inspired by the famous brand.
At the film's world premiere in Los Angeles on July 9, Robbie channeled the Solo in the Spotlight '60s Barbie when she wore a black sequined Schiaparelli dress.
At the South Korean premiere of "Barbie" in Seoul on July 2, Robbie channeled the Day to Night Barbie from 1985 in a Versace look.
Mukamal also shared another look from the same event that paid homage to the same Barbie.
During a photo call on June 29 in Sydney, Australia, the actress wore a black and white striped mini dress -- a nod to the first Barbie doll ever released. The original doll, released in 1959, was dressed in a black and white striped swimsuit with white sunglasses.

When Robbie first arrived in Australia last year, she was spotted in a runway look that showed she's fully embracing the "Barbiecore" trend during the press tour.
For her airport look, the actress donned a Chanel Spring/Summer 1996 look that included a tweed pink blazer paired with jeans and slingback heels.

Robbie showed off another on-trend style while attending a press event in Los Angeles, wearing a custom pink polka-dot minidress from Valentino.
Mukamal shared in an Instagram post that the inspiration for the outfit was a doll from Barbie's Pink & Fabulous collection, released in 2015.
To celebrate the first day of the "Barbie" press tour, the film's official account shared a post of Robbie grinning in the back of her pink convertible. She wore a pink matching set from Bottega Veneta.
Ahead of the press tour, one of the first "Barbie"-inspired looks Robbie debuted was in April, at CinemaCon 2023 in Las Vegas.
For the Warner Bros. Pictures Studio presentation, the actress wore a pink gingham bralette top with a matching miniskirt from Prada.

The Fashion-Filled 'Barbie' Press Tour Continues With a Glamorous Pink Carpet in London
Photo: Joe Maher/Getty Images
As you're surely aware, unless you've been off the internet in recent months, the new " Barbie " movie is coming out in a few weeks. And leading up to the highly-anticipated release of the film has been a truly remarkable, international, headline-dominating, fashion-filled press tour.
Though the world premiere took place earlier this month in Los Angeles, the "Barbie" world tour continues to take over city after city. London is the latest place to get the pink carpet rollout, with stars Margot Robbie , Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera, Hari Nef and more continuing to put their own spin (with help from their stylists, of course) on what it means to dress like a Barbie doll.
Robbie once again went for a full re-creation of a classic Barbie outfit, bringing to life the "Enchanted Evening" collector's edition of the toy (still available to shop here ) with a custom gown by British label Vivienne Westwood . The look featured hints of Westwood signatures, including a corseted bodice and a hidden bejeweled logo at the center of the floral attachment.
Ferrera and Dua Lipa, meanwhile, also brought out ultra-glamourous looks, sporting designs from Roland Mouret and Versace La Vacanza, respectively.

So many nostalgic easter eggs!
Don’t be shocked when you see tons of people rocking pink at movie theaters on July 21. The Barbiecore aesthetic has taken over to celebrate the upcoming release of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie . The highly anticipated production — with a star-studded cast featuring faves like Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Dua Lipa, Simu Liu, and Issa Rae — has sparked a lot of excitement ever since filming was announced due to the iconic and long-lasting impact of the beloved doll. The only thing more heavily discussed than the mystery of the plot: the many pinkalicious outfits worn on and off the screen — in particular, Margot Robbie's Barbie press tour looks.
If you’re stumped on what to wear to see the film in theaters, you should think pink and take inspo from Robbie’s Barbie premiere fashion and glam to embody the character and fit the Barbie aesthetic. Not only has she stayed true to the Barbie pink that’s known and beloved, but she has even worn looks inspired by Barbie dolls of previous decades working with brands like Versace and Moschino. The ultimate slay.
Below, Elite Daily gathered some of the Oscar nominee’s best Barbie red carpet looks, many of which contain easter eggs that’ll bring on all the ‘90s nostalgia. Come on, Robbie, let’s go party.
This Barbie Rocked Pink Gingham
In true Barbie fashion, Margot Robbie rocked a pink gingham Prada ensemble — reminiscent of the dress she wore in the trailer — featuring a three-piece set with a matching bra top, mini skirt, and long coat at CinemaCon in April. Accessories included a pink Prada shoulder bag and mule-style heels.
This Barbie Soaked Up The Sun
Attending a press event for Barbie at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles, Robbie mirrored the sunny LA weather in this pink and white polka dot Valentino cross-neck mini dress. She added a pop of color with a yellow cross-body and a classic pair of white pumps. The look was inspired by the “Pink & Fabulous” Barbie from 2015.
This Barbie Mixed Textures
Going for more of a cozy look, Robbie played with texture by pairing a light pink cozy turtleneck knit sweater with a metallic pink leather skirt while speaking at a Barbie fan event in Australia.
This Barbie Was So Ready For A Night Out
If you’re looking for what to wear for a night out on the town, Margot Robbie has given you the cutest Barbie-inspired ‘fit inspo. At the Museum of Contemporary Art’s Barbie Celebration Party in Sydney, Australia, she wore a Versace pink metallic mini dress.
This Barbie Slayed The Day
Serving ‘80s realness, Robbie wowed yet again in a Versace look inspired by the day look from the 1985 “Day to Night” Barbie . The ensemble, worn at the Seoul premiere of Barbie , featured a matching pink skirt suit, pink and white heels, a bright pink tulle neck scarf, a white wide-brim hat, Judith Leiber bedazzled phone clutch, and pink mini bag.
This Barbie Served All The Princess Vibes
Recreating the night look from the 1985 “Day to Night Barbie,” Robbie wore this Versace dress featuring a sparkly bodice with hot pink tulle skirt and matching mule heels at the Seoul, South Korea Barbie premiere.
This Barbie Screamed ‘60s Style
This hot pink Moschino matching three-piece set paired with a bow embellished hat and heart-shaped bag is giving ‘60s Jackie Kennedy vibes. The look Robbie wore at a Seoul Barbie press event took inspo from the 1964 “Sparkling Pink Barbie.”
This Barbie Was So Totally ‘90s
At the Mexico City Barbie premiere, Robbie looked 100% pre-Y2K in this hot pink leather Balmain mini dress and Manolo Blahnik heels. This look was inspired by the 1992 “Earring Magic Barbie.”
This Barbie Was The Ultimate Hollywood Starlet
For the big LA Barbie premiere, Robbie showed up and showed out. Dressed in Schiaparelli, the star wore an exact copy of the outfit worn by the “Solo in the Spotlight” Barbie doll from the 1960s. The outfit choice hinted at the fact that Robbie has stolen the spotlight as the titular role and everyone is obsessed.
This Barbie Was Royalty
Wearing an exact copy of the 1960s “Enchanted Evening” Barbie look in a dress by Vivienne Westwood, Robbie stunned at the European Barbie premiere. The gown was paired with Assael pearls and Christian Louboutin heels. Everyone, take notes.
This Barbie Gave Business Chic
At a Barbie photocall in London (aka the last Barbie press event featuring the cast), Robbie wore this pink Vivienne Westwood look featuring a matching long sleeve blazer-style top and mini skirt paired with furry platform heels and a matching structured bag.
This Barbie Brought Pink Into 2024
At the 81st Golden Globes, the best actress nominee wowed in a custom Armani Privé stunner. The inspo behind the hot pink gown and matching boa (which would totally give Harry Styles a run for his money )? According to her stylist, Andrew Mukamal, it was the signature 1977 Superstar Barbie classic doll.

Margot Robbie Nails 2 Chic Barbie Looks at European Premiere Events in London

Margot Robbie is having double the Barbie fun in London!
On Wednesday, the actress stepped out in two reimagined versions of the iconic doll’s looks at the European premiere of Greta Gerwig’ s Barbie movie in London.
Robbie, 33, has been working with stylist Andrew Mukamal throughout the Barbie press tour and the pair pulled out all the stops for the latest premiere, with the actress transforming from an elegant red carpet Barbie to a nighttime Barbie who was ready to party.
First, Robbie embodied the 1960s Enchanted Evening Barbie in the custom Vivienne Westwood couture Moonlight gown she wore on the premiere’s red carpet, Mukamal confirmed on Instagram .
Like her doll counterpart, the actress donned a blush pink satin draped corseted dress with a matching side train, accented by a rose motif brooch inside the flower-shaped orb. The ensemble also featured a white tulle stole and matte ivory opera gloves.

Wearing a chic up-do with face-framing bangs, the Oscar-nominated star styled the vintage look with a pair of silver peep-toe jeweled Christian Louboutin heels and a multilayered Assael pearl necklace and earrings. On Thursday, make-up artist Pati Dubroff revealed on Instagram that Robbie’s soft pink make-up look was created with Chanel products.

After hitting the red carpet, the actress quickly slipped into a bright red corset mini-dress from British-Turkish designer, Dilara Findikoglu, for a photocall ahead of the movie's afterparty at London's Chiltern Firehouse restaurant.
Teamed with a chic updo, red drawstring purse and peep-toe heels by Maison Ernest, Robbie's look was a version of a 1962 doll, Mukamal revealed on his Instagram Story along with a photo of the original doll — complete with a box carrying the words "Brunette Bubble Cut Barbie."

Robbie, who has sparkled in an array of Barbie-inspired outfits in recent weeks, told PEOPLE last week that she and her stylist Mukamal had one thing in mind when creating looks for the Barbie press tour — Barbie fans.
While eagle-eyed fashion lovers were keen to pick up the high-end designer cues from the duo, it was devotees of the iconic doll that the fashionable pair wanted to honor, alongside Barbie’s decades-spanning style history, Robbie told PEOPLE exclusively at the Barbie world premiere in Los Angeles on July 10.
“We're finding Barbie references from decades past and just doing it really for the big Barbie fans out there, people who are actually collecting those Barbies. We're hoping to get them excited,” she said. “We're pairing Barbie references with great designers.”
As the movie’s titular character, Robbie has her own simple take on the doll’s over-the-top glamour. “Well, it's not subtle, but it's very fun!”

Margot Robbie's make-up artist on creating her “hyper-real” skin that's "as perfect as a doll"
Pati Dubroff takes us behind the scenes at the London premiere
"The look for this premiere was all about an effortless, clean, polished glow," Robbie's make-up artist, Pati Dubroff, tells Harper's Bazaar . The "Barbie glow" is something they "have been leaning into," she adds. "For London this translated as bronzed sculpted skin with slight touches of pink pearl highlights, fluttery lashes and a soft pink lip."
When deciding on the beauty looks for the Barbie tour, Dubroff says it's very much a team effort. "It’s important that all the elements balance each other and look harmonious – and we carefully collaborate to achieve this. Ultimately Margot needs to feel comfortable and completely like herself," Dubroff explains. Last night, choosing to stick to clean eye make-up and a more muted lip colour really helped showcase Robbie's skin."We wanted to ensure the overall feeling was not too retro," she explains. "She is a modern Barbie!"
So, how did she achieve the 'Enchanted Evening' 2.0 beauty look? "Once the skin was prepped and a gentle application of foundation applied, I then sculpted the cheekbones and added extra summery glow with the Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream in 392 - Medium Bronze. I added a few drops of Chanel Le Blanc Rosy Light Drops into the palm of my hand and with an eyeshadow brush added highlights to the high points: tops of the cheekbones, brow bones and centre of the eyelid."
The centre of the eyelids also got a dusting of Chanel's Ombre Première Multi-Effect Longwear Powder Eyeshadow in 12 - Rose Synthétique "for a slight pinky pearl wash". Then Dubroff applied the Lashify DIY lash extensions in GG10 and GG12 "for a fluttery full lash". On the bottom lashes she applied the Chanel Inimitable Definition Mascara in 30 - Noir Brun , "a dark brown to really open the eye for a doll like effect". To ensure the "brows were softy defined" she used the Boy de Chanel Eyebrow Pencil in 202 - Light Brown .
Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream
Chanel Ombre Première Multi-Effect Longwear Powder Eyeshadow in 12 - Rose Synthétique
Chanel Inimitable Definition Mascara in 30 - Noir Brun
Chanel Joues Contraste in 170 - Rose Glacier
For blush, "with a fan brush I applied a wash of Chanel Joues Contraste in 170 - Rose Glacier to the apple of the cheeks," continues Dubroff. "The final touch was my favourite pink lip – Chanel Rouge Coco Baume in 928 - Pink Delight, enhanced with a touch of Chanel Le Crayon Lèvres in 156 - Beige Naturel "to define the lips".
It's not only last night that the actress's skin has been central to the Barbie press tour beauty look. It's helped maintain a cohesive aesthetic while sartorially Robbie has reinvented myriad vintage doll looks. "I look at the overall concept and options for wardrobe and the Barbies we are referencing," explains Dubroff of the process of designing a beauty concept for the tour. "I wanted the skin to have a 'hyper-real' effect. As perfect as a doll. I also pulled all shades possible of pink, from the softest nude pink to the loudest fuchsia, also coral tones and reds for lips and cheeks. Each day for each outfit I look for the shade and tone that are most harmonious."
For those of us wanting to channel not only Robbie's aesthetic but the current mood of Barbie in this moment, Dubroff has four particular products for ‘Barbiecore’ beauty. " Chanel Rouge Coco Baume for lips – especially the pink and red shades; Chanel Baume Essential for skin highlights; the Makeup by Mario Soft Pop Powder Blush in Pinch me Pink , and the Lashify lashes ."

Taylor Swift is about to go back on tour: Here's what to expect on the Eras Tour in Paris
After a two-month break, Taylor Swift is revitalizing her titanic Eras Tour in Paris, and fans believe there are changes coming to the show.
If you are wondering where she's playing, if there will be changes and how to score tickets, here's everything we know.
And if you're new to the Eras Tour party, you can get caught up on the first 83 shows here .
When does the Eras Tour start again?
Swift kicks off the European leg of her tour on Thursday, May 9, in Paris. She will perform Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, as well, in the City of Light.
Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.
What are Taylor Swift's tour dates in Europe?
There are 69 shows left in the Eras Tour: 51 in Europe, nine in America and nine in Canada.
The European leg stretches from May all the way through a five-night stand at Wembley Stadium in London in mid-August.
See a complete list of international dates here .
After she wraps up in Europe, Swift will stop in Miami, New Orleans and Indianapolis before wrapping up in Canada.
See the remaining U.S. dates here .
What is the Eras Tour set list?
The Eras Tour has featured a massive 45-song set list you can check out here . But speculation is swirling it won't look the same when Swift takes the stage in Paris.
Will Taylor Swift add 'The Tortured Poets Department' to her set list?
The tortured poet has been on hiatus keeping her stamina up by releasing a double album of 31 tracks. The 2-hours-and-2-minutes project broke a number of Billboard records as the superstar did zero press to promote it. Fans flocked to stores and streaming services to listen to all the songs from "Fortnight" to "The Manuscript."
Although the singer has not confirmed whether her 11th era album will be added to her Eras Tour set list, she did post a YouTube shorts video with two scenes that sent Easter egg decoders into a frenzy. In one of the shots, the singer is next to a railing where a "TTPD" logo appears to be (at 0:11). In the succeeding shot, her back-up dancers perform holding canes and wearing top hats, something they have not worn previously.
Swift's dancers and bandmates posted to their Instagram stories as they left for France last week. The singer did not appear at two media events with her boyfriend Travis Kelce: the Kentucky Derby and a Formula 1 race in Miami , Florida. Patrick Mahomes, Kelce's friend and Kansas City's quarterback, attended the car racing spectacular with his wife, Brittany.
Can I still get Eras Tour tickets?
Swift's show is completely sold out in Europe and North America. There are resale sites with tickets, but be wary of scams. The best way to avoid getting swindled is continuously checking links on Swift's website . There are some for resale on the sites verified by her camp.
Singapore was a hotbed for fans who traveled thousands of miles only to get turned away at the venue. In Tokyo and Australia, last-minute ticket drops happened a few days — without announcement — ahead of the shows.
Miami, New Orleans and Indianapolis — the three U.S. cities Swift is visiting in the fall — have some of the heftiest price tags with Canada closely behind. In may be cheaper to travel to Warsaw, Poland, or Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Here's a list of cities with the cheapest resale tickets, according to travel website Islands.com .
10. Vienna, Austria — total average cost: $1,089, safety score: 69.72
9. Cardiff, U.K. — total average cost: $1,061, safety score: 61.83

Who are the opening acts?
Paramore launched the Eras Tour in Glendale, Arizona, in March 2023, so it's fitting the American rock band is opening the tour's second year. The act will open for Swift for 51 shows across Europe . The band was dubbed the 2024 Record Store Day global ambassador and surprised fans in Nashville the weekend following the release of "The Tortured Poets Department."
When the tour comes back to North America in October , Swift's opening act will be Gracie Abrams.
Where can I watch if I don't have tickets?
The Eras Tour is one of the first tours that has been followed, globally, by thousands of fans on digital platforms. Fans dedicate part of their concert experience to livestreaming as Swift performs. A few Swifties have learned how to host their own shows over social media including Tess Bohne , known as the livestream queen. Bohne goes live for (almost) every show pulling streams from Instagram and TikTok. When a livestream goes down, she fills the time with banter.
On YouTube, user @TaylorSwiftHockeyBro also livestreams the three-hour show, and on Twitch, @folkleric , is a host fans follow.
There is also an app, Swift Alert , that notifies fans who only want to watch certain eras like the acoustic, surprise set. The app sends out push alerts if there are any major announcements.
What secret songs are left?
For the past 83 shows, Swift has played an acoustic set she customizes at each stop with a guitar and piano performance. In 2024, the Eras Tour star added mashups of her songs for each stop. Here are the songs she has yet to perform:
- "Taylor Swift" (debut album): "Mary's Song" and "A Perfectly Good Heart"
- "Fearless": "The Way I Loved You," "Change," "Superstar," "We Were Happy," "That's When," "Don't You" and "Bye Bye Baby"
- "Red": "Girl At Home," "Ronan," "Forever Winter" and "Run"
- "1989": "Sweeter Than Fiction"
- "Reputation": "I Did Something Bad"
- "Lover": "London Boy," "Soon You'll Get Better" and "It's Nice to Have a Friend"
- "Folklore": "Hoax"
- "Evermore": "Happiness" and "Closure"
- "Midnights": "Paris" and "Glitch"
- "The Tortured Poets Department": all 31 tracks
Will Taylor Swift perform in 2025?
There have been many rumors that Swift will continue her show in 2025, but they are only rumors. Nothing has been announced for next year, and as of now, the tour will end in Vancouver, British Columbia, on Dec. 8.

Anya taylor-joy revs up method dressing trend with ‘furiosa’-approved style on recent press tour.
From Margot Robbie’s 'Barbie' run to Zendaya’s 'Dune' and 'Challengers' cosplay, actresses and their stylists are continuing to pull from the page as inspiration for the red carpet.

Eyes follow Anya Taylor-Joy whenever she steps on a red carpet, and the descriptions of her ensembles that follow often include adjectives like glamorous, ethereal, angelic, and the like. But when she faced photographers’ lenses in Sydney in early May for the world premiere of George Miller ’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga , what followed was a series of exclamation points. Edgy! Electric! Striking! Furiosa-approved!

With her appearance, Taylor-Joy became the latest star to fashionably fuel a trend that has been described as method dressing or character cosplay. It has felt omnipresent as of late, thanks to style stars like Zendaya, Margot Robbie, Emma Stone, Kristen Stewart and Florence Pugh. Though they have only made a handful of outings together to pump their highly anticipated two- part Wicked musical , Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo have leaned heavily into the pink and green influences (pink for Grande’s Glinda and emerald for Erivo’s gravity-defying Elphaba) that telegraphed much more cosplay to come ahead of the first film’s November debut.
Actors and stylists have long pulled from the page, and screens big and small, as inspiration for red carpet dressing. But the method reached new heights and cultural awareness thanks to Robbie and her jaw-dropping, months-long Barbie promo tour expertly curated by her stylist Andrew Mukamal that featured an explosion of pink and meticulously crafted, luxury re-creations of looks worn by the iconic doll.
“If people at home have knowledge and a visual awareness of characters before even seeing the film, then you can really go there,” Mukamal told The Hollywood Reporter during a dinner to celebrate the Power Stylists list at which he was feted as Stylist of the Year for the long haul. Mukamal previously mined the trend with Zoë Kravitz for The Batman , which cast her as Catwoman. “So many people already knew who Catwoman was even before they got to see Zoe’s version of the character. With projects like that, Barbie included, there’s so much wealth to pull from. It’s proven to be a really great approach for certain projects, especially in terms of communicating a message on a press tour and creating great momentum. I’m loving seeing it more and more out there.”
Another high-profile example in recent months was Stone’s run for Poor Things with her longtime stylist Petra Flannery. The veteran Louis Vuitton ambassador wore a series of custom looks that complemented Stone’s character Bella Baxter in the world created by Yorgos Lanthimos . “I always try and take a little something from the film, a nod of some sort or a thread of the character,” Flannery tells THR . “I usually don’t do it so literally or in an overbearing way, but just something that helps give it a sense of inspiration, whether it be a color reference or silhouette.”
Or an accessory. Says Flannery: “For her character name, we had Louis Vuitton make BB pins that were created with gold and pearls. We placed them on some of the looks every so often, on a belt or lapel, to reference the character. Those things are so inspiring and it’s fun to keep adding to the art with nods like that. As Emma has said, it’s one of her favorite characters, so it was great to keep the character alive in that way.”
Other times, the references are so subtle that not even the most critical eyes will pick up on it. “There reference could be so small that that only myself and the actress will know,” teases Flannery. “It could be a color or an accessory, a way for them to know that a little piece of the character is always with them.”

Jerry Seinfeld crashed Saturday Night Live ‘s Weekend Update segment, and Colin Jost introduced him as “a man who did too much press.”
The Seinfeld star has been on a press tour promoting his Netflix movie Unfrosted , which he directed and stars in.
Seinfeld came to the Update desk, not knowing where he was, asking if it was a podcast. Jost pointed out that the actor was even on The Rich Eisen Show , something Seinfeld had forgotten he had been on.

Seinfeld acknowledged that he couldn’t undo all the press he had done but wanted to help other people, directing words of wisdom to the Barbie and The Fall Guy star, Ryan Gosling .
“If you are struggling with press, you’re not alone,” Seinfeld said. “I’m talking to you Ryan Gosling.”
He continued, “When I started doing press for Unfrosted , I was like you—funny, good-looking. Now, look at me. Do you think this is how I wanted to spend my 26th birthday? But you can get clean.”
Seinfeld was interrupted by a call from the Spanish-language network Univision, who was also about to interview him. As the segment came to a close, Seinfeld reminded everyone he was going to be on The Kelly Clarkson Show doing more press.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Nigerian visit is a reminder of how much the House of Windsor could have used them
Analysis Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Nigerian visit is a reminder of how much the House of Windsor could have used them
Prince Harry and Meghan's 72-hour visit to Nigeria has attracted a level of publicity Buckingham Palace has been sorely lacking of late.
The photographs of the former royals taking part in a casual volleyball game, accepting flowers from a little girl and visiting local schools to promote mental health awareness made headlines around the world over the weekend .
Prince Harry drew praise over a heartfelt speech about the importance of "acknowledging bad days ", and photographers snapped pictures as he accepted an invitation to sit and throw the ball around with army veterans wounded in battle against the country's Islamist insurgency.
His wife's instinctive sartorial choices were also avidly followed by royal and non-royal watcher s alike, as was her special connection to the country she called "home".
The lightning-quick tour of Nigeria was intended to champion mental health for young people and promote the Invictus Games, an international sporting event founded by Prince Harry back when he was still firmly within the royal fold.
Nigeria became the first African country to take part in the games last year, with General Christopher Gwabin Musa OFR, the country's highest-ranking military official, extending an invitation to the prince this year to help raise its profile.
But it wasn't a royal tour, it couldn't be. Not after the duke and duchess' decision in 2020 to step back as senior working members of the royal family.
After failing to reach a compromise over a hybrid working model, the couple traded in their lofty titles for the chance to earn a private income, swapping the rigid spotlight of the United Kingdom for carefree California.
Four years later, the British high commissioner in Nigeria was at pains to stress this point, releasing a statement that the couple's visit was in a private capacity and "not an official one".
"They are not representing the work of His Majesty's government on this visit," Richard Montgomery told the News Agency of Nigeria .
It did not prevent the three-day spectacle from making the news locally and within the country Harry and Meghan once considered home.
Some of this attention could not be helped given the stark absences of other senior royals in the public eye in recent months due to illness.
The couple, whether they intended to or not, have demonstrated in their Nigeria stopover, the gap they could have filled had they stayed on as working royals.
And given how small that circle is at the moment, perhaps they have also showed how helpful that would have been.
According to author and former Vanity Fair editor Tina Brown, the visit has drawn recollections of the position the duke and duchess once occupied.
"After all the trashing of Harry ... actually when I saw him and Meghan in Nigeria, I had a nostalgia," she told the BBC.
"I felt this is what could have been, these two — who are enormously appealing to the public, and who are very good at it — were out there in Nigeria looking very attractive and being appealing people. And what a pity it is they've gone"
In her view, the couple's sleek visit was a reminder of the grim realities looming over the slimmed-down royal family and the "Harry-shaped hole in the monarchy".
The importance of a royal tour
Royal tours by their very nature are filled with pomp and ceremony and are considered to be an important part of making the public believe in the power of the monarch.
One of Queen Elizabeth II's favourite mantras was that royals "have to be seen to be believed".
Since medieval times, a monarch's highly orchestrated trips around the country or (in more recent times) the globe has provided their subjects with proof of life and reinforced the magic of the palace.
The late queen was a firm believer in the importance of these public voyages, embarking on dozens throughout her reign after first coming to the role of monarch while on a royal tour.
As the story goes, she was more than 7,000 kilometres from home on a five-month visit of Africa and Australia when she went up a tree a princess and came down a queen.
But in the 21st century, the pageantry of these events is offset by greater scrutiny from a wary public and a sceptical media throng.
Stephen Bates, the former royal affairs writer for the Guardian, writes that press teams that accompany royals on these visits do so now if three conditions are met.
"There may be some newsworthiness to them …; second, to view the royals at close range in a way that’s not normally possible — to see what they are like in person, maybe even speak to them; and third, to test the water for their popularity," he wrote for the Guardian.
Last year, King Charles reportedly began planning the largest-ever series of official tours across the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and other countries.
Those rumours were soon confirmed by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in February, when he revealed discussions were underway for the king's visit Down Under .
There had been speculation his trip might fall alongside the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa in October.
However, the king's cancer diagnosis and treatment have thrown these plans into question.
Both King Charles III and Princess Catherine have limited their public engagements since announcing they would be recovering from procedures in January.
The king returned to in-person royal duties in late April , after more than seven weeks away from the spotlight, but his public appearances are still being worked out.
"The pacing of the king's program will be carefully calibrated as his recovery continues, in close consultation with his medical team," a Buckingham Palace statement released last month said.
The government has confirmed there are still plans underway for an Australian visit, though it is far from certain.
This is not surprising, given the publicity these tours can generate and the pressure they place on the people at the centre of them.
Careful and thoughtful preparations play a key part in the success of a tour.
But, as with all best-laid plans, sometimes they can go wrong.
The Caribbean tour that drew unwanted attention
Kate and William's tour across the Caribbean in 2022 was supposed to be one such highly-planned event.
It was hoped the young couple would win over a new generation of subjects growing increasingly dubious about their heads of state.
But reports at the time indicated the then duke and duchess of Cambridge's efforts backfired after a series of faux pas.
The couple's visit to Jamaica was overshadowed when reports emerged not long after their arrival that the country's government had begun the process of transitioning the nation to a republic.
Photographs of the couple standing in an open-top Land Rover and reaching out to grab the hands of children through a wire fence also gave rise to awkward recollections of the monarchy's colonial past.
Royal commentators described the messaging of that tour as "poor at best" and prompting an overhaul of the Prince and Princess of Wales' PR and communications team.
While Meghan and Harry's three-day Nigeria visit is by no means comparable to the spectacle of a royal tour, it has offered some lessons on the importance of leaning on a sophisticated PR machine.
The duchess reportedly has one of the most powerful managers in Hollywood working for her after a reshuffle of her management team last year following the couple's high-profile exit from a Spotify deal.
But part of the success of the duke and duchess' Nigeria stopover was also in some of the more genuine moments on display for waiting cameras.
A day after landing, Meghan noted the contrast between her neutral wardrobe and those around her, making a swift decision to update her sartorial choices.
"It has been a whirlwind 24 hours since we arrived," Meghan reportedly told guests at an event.
"And I very quickly got the memo that I need to wear more colour so I can fit in with all of you in your incredible fashion!"
Her authentic connection with the country was also a running theme of the visit, with Meghan telling locals she had recently discovered her ancestry traced back to Nigeria.
While on stage at an event in the country's capital, Abuja, the Duchess of Sussex explained that her first reaction after finding out was to tell her mother.
"Being African American, part of it is really not knowing so much about your lineage and background … ," she said.
After the duchess's revelation, Mo Abudu, the anchor and chief executive of EbonyLife media group, asked the audience to suggest a Nigerian name for Meghan.
Someone shouted "Ifeoma", which means "a treasured thing", while another shouted "Omowale", which means "the child has come home".
Could Harry and Meghan return to royal life?
In the years since the couple left, questions have swirled around what may have happened if the dice of fate had landed a different way.
What if Harry and Meghan were still working royals alongside William and Kate?
What might have happened if the young couple were on hand to pitch in and step up their public presence when other royals were absent?
The questions have taken on more relevance after the King and Princess Catherine's dual cancer diagnoses and subsequent withdrawal from the spotlight.
A glimpse of what might have been played out over the weekend as Harry and Meghan underwent their own "private" tour of Nigeria.
While the photographs made those watching nostalgic, it's unlikely the visit will prompt a request to take on official duties back in London or heal the deep rift between the royal family and the young couple.
What it has done is further highlight the small group of working royals operating now, made smaller after the deaths of Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth, and following Prince Andrew's complete removal from royal life.
But if the king's decision not to see his son when he was in London last week — reportedly due to a full programme — is anything to go by, any suggestions of a return to royal life are being firmly rebuffed.
Even with a smaller circle of people to rely on, it appears as if the royal family has chosen to keep Harry out in the cold.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Madonna put on a free concert on Copacabana beach Saturday night, turning Rio de Janeiro’s vast stretch of sand into an enormous dance floor teeming with a multitude of her fans.
It was the last show of The Celebration Tour, her first retrospective, which kicked off in October in London .
The “Queen of Pop” began the show with her 1998 hit “Nothing Really Matters.” Huge cheers rose from the buzzing, tightly packed crowd, pressed up against the barriers. Others held house parties in brightly lighted apartments and hotels overlooking the beachfront. Helicopters and drones flew overhead, and motorboats and sailboats anchored off the beach filled the bay.
“Here we are in the most beautiful place in the world,” Madonna, 65, told the crowd. Pointing out the ocean view, the mountains and the Christ the Redeemer statue overlooking the city, she added: “This place is magic.”
Madonna performed her classic hits, including “Like A Virgin” and “Hung Up.” For the introduction to “Like A Prayer,” her head was completely covered in a black cape, a rosary gripped in her hands.
The star paid an emotional tribute to “all the bright lights” lost to AIDS as she sang “Live to Tell,” with black and white photos of people who died from the illness flashing behind her.
Later, she was joined on stage by Brazilian artists Anitta and Pabllo Vittar.
Rio spent the last few days readying itself for the performance.
An estimated 1.6 million people attended the show, G1 reported, citing Rio City Hall’s tourism agency. That is more than 10 times Madonna’s record attendance of 130,000 at Paris’ Parc des Sceaux in 1987. Madonna’s official website hyped the show as the biggest ever in her four-decade career.
In recent days, the buzz was palpable. Fans milled outside the stately, beachfront Copacabana Palace hotel , where Madonna is staying, hoping to catch a glimpse of the pop star. During the sound check on the stage set up in front of the hotel, they danced on the sand.
By midday Saturday, fans crowded in front of the hotel. A white-bearded man carried a sign saying, “Welcome Madonna you are the best I love you.”
Flags with “Madonna” printed against a background of Copacabana’s iconic black and white waved sidewalk pattern hung from balconies. The area was packed with street vendors and concert attendees kitted out in themed T-shirts, sweating under a baking sun.
“Since Madonna arrived here, I’ve been coming every day with this outfit to welcome my idol, my diva, my pop queen,” said Rosemary de Oliveira Bohrer, 69, who sported a gold-colored cone bra and a black cap.
“It’s going to be an unforgettable show here in Copacabana,” said Oliveira Bohrer, a retired civil servant who lives in the area.
Eighteen sound towers were spread along the beach to ensure that all attendees can hear the hits. Her two-hour show started at 10:37 p.m. local time, nearly 50 minutes behind schedule.
City Hall produced a report in April estimating that the concert would vinject 293 million reals ($57 million) into the local economy. Hotel capacity was expected to reach 98% in Copacabana, according to Rio’s hotel association. Fans hailing from across Brazil and even Argentina and France sought out Airbnbs for the weekend, the platform said in a statement. Rio’s international airport had forecast an extra 170 flights during May 1-6, from 27 destinations, City Hall said in a statement.

“It’s a unique opportunity to see Madonna, who knows if she’ll ever come back,” said Alessandro Augusto, 53, who flew in from Brazil’s Ceara state — approximately 2,500 kilometers (1,555 miles) from Rio.
“Welcome Queen!” read Heineken ads plastered around the city, the lettering above an image of an upturned bottle cap resembling a crown.
Heineken wasn’t the only company seeking to profit from the excitement. Bars and restaurants prepared “Like a Virgin” cocktails. A shop in the downtown neighborhood famed for selling Carnival attire completely reinvented itself, stocking its shelves with Madonna-themed costumes, fans, fanny packs and even underwear.
Organization of the mega-event was similar to New Year’s Eve, when millions of people gather on Copacabana for its fireworks display, local authorities said. That annual event often produces widespread thefts and muggings, and there was some concern such problems might occur at Madonna’s show.

Rio state’s security plan included the presence of 3,200 military personnel and 1,500 civilian police officers on stand by. In the lead-up to the concert, Brazil’s navy inspected vessels that wished to position themselves offshore to follow the show.
A number of huge concerts have taken place on Copacabana beach before, including a 1994 New Year’s Eve show by Rod Stewart that drew more than 4 million fans and was the biggest free rock concert in history , according to Guinness World Records. Many of those spectators also came to see Rio’s fireworks show, though, so a more fitting comparison might be to the Rolling Stones in 2006, which saw 1.2 million people crowd onto the sand, according to Rio’s military police, the newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo reported at the time.
Ana Beatriz Soares, a fan who was at Copacabana on Saturday, said Madonna has made her mark across the decades.
“Madonna had to run so that today’s pop artists could walk. That’s why she’s important, because she serves as an inspiration for today’s pop divas,” Soares said.
“And that’s 40 years ago. Not 40 days, 40 months. It’s 40 years,” she said.
AP video journalist Douglas Engle contributed to this report.
