We’re all thinking about how to prioritise our health and wellbeing on our future trips – and that includes how to stay safe on coach travel experiences. At Trafalgar, we’ve introduced enhanced hygiene practices and physical distancing* measures on all our coaches to ensure the wellbeing of guests and team members. Here are all the ways we’re making Trafalgar’s coaches safer for our guests:

Sanitised coaches

We’ve always sanitised our custom luxury coaches before the start of your trip. Now, our coach hygiene practices are even stricter, following guidelines from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and government regulations. We’ve trained our drivers on the latest hygiene protocols and they clean and disinfect the coaches every day. That includes all surfaces in the coach, like seats, handrails, door handles, tables, overhead lockers and air-conditioning filters.

Physical distancing* procedures

We’ve changed our group sizes in accordance with government distancing requirements. So, you’re guaranteed to have your own personal space on Trafalgar’s luxury coaches during your trip.

Hygiene equipment for guests

Along with keeping our coaches sanitised, we also have sanitiser freely available onboard all our coaches for guests to use. While we ask that you bring your own face masks and hygiene products, we also have additional face masks, antiviral wipes and spray, and rubber gloves available for guests on all trips.

Expertly trained drivers and Travel Directors

All our drivers and Travel Directors are highly trained in our strict hygienic travel and physical distancing procedures. You’ll see them advising and ensuring that high standards of hygiene are maintained during your trip. We’ve also trained our teams to follow procedures if any unexpected situations arise.

Is coach travel green and responsible?

Coach travel isn’t just better for you – it’s also better for the environment. As the effects of climate change continue to impact our lives, more people are considering environmentally friendly travel. We know that increasing greenhouse gas emissions are linked to climate change and that transport like aeroplanes and cars have a large carbon footprint.

So what is the most eco-friendly way to travel and reduce your carbon footprint? The answer is guided coach tours; where a larger group of people travel on one greener vehicle, as opposed to many vehicles. The average coach journey produces 0.04 tonnes per 1,000 miles, compared to the average car which would produce 0.29 tonnes of CO2 per 1,000 miles. Travelling with a group coach tour can also be greener than trains when travelling domestically, as national rail services create 0.07 tonnes of CO2 per 1,000 miles per passenger.

Trafalgar’s commitment to low-emission coaches

This all means that the most eco-friendly way to travel is by coach. And it gets even greener when you travel on Trafalgar’s guided coach tours, as we’re investing in low-emission coaches as part of our commitment to the five-year How We Tread Right (HWTR) sustainability strategy . The strategy was developed by our parent company, The Travel Corporation, and is dedicated to leaving a positive impact on the planet, people and wildlife through 11 goals that are tied to the UN Sustainable Development Goals . The 11 goals relate to issues such as climate change, sustainable food production, responsible consumption, overtourism, diversity and inclusion, and animal welfare.

UN hub reaches remote Pacific islanders: A UN Resident Coordinator blog

The communities of thousands of tiny Pacific islands are the frontline gamechangers tackling the climate crisis, and a hub based in Micronesia now hosts more than a dozen UN agencies that together are helping address some of their most pressing needs as they battle existential threats like rising sea levels.

“They do not want to leave their ancestral places, even if they go under,” said  Jaap van Hierden .

Appointed by the Secretary-General as the first UN Resident Coordinator for the North Pacific, he oversees ongoing development efforts across a remote region with thousands of small islands comprising of small populations that are the stewards of a vast expanse of ocean and Earth stretching more than 7,000 km from Palau to Kiritimati island. 

He spoke to UN News just ahead of the Fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States ( SIDS4 ) which is underway in the Caribbean twin island of Antigua and Barbuda. He explained how the UN Multi-Country Office, known as MCO Micronesia, where  13 UN agencies now operate, was created.

“This mostly undeveloped and rather pristine part of the Pacific is not well known. Except for Palau, these countries are not yet holiday destinations.

Apart from receiving some US funding, all five countries in the region – Palau, Federated States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Nauru and Kiribati – appear somewhat forgotten and left behind by the global community.

This triggered the need for an increasingly effective engagement by Micronesian leaders with the UN and its General Assembly, which in turn led to a review of UN multi-country offices and the subsequent establishment of my post.

Frontlines of climate change

Upon my arrival, I quickly learned that Micronesians are at the frontline of climate change with Marshall Islands and Kiribati at risk of disappearing under the waves of our ocean within the lifetimes of our children. Also facing a similar existential risk were the numerous low-lying outer islands of Palau and Micronesia – with its four states of Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae.

Micronesians have been champions in our shared fight against climate change and leaders and advocates in highlighting the importance of reviewing vulnerability through multiple dimensions.

They have also contributed to the ongoing “loss and damages” discussion that should help them adapt effectively against rising sea levels and worsening weather events.

Encouragingly, they have acted upon their responsibilities as stewards of our vast ocean through the establishment of marine protected areas as well as the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization ( UNESCO ) World Heritage Sites and Biosphere Reserves and more.

However, Micronesians are highly dispersed, with less than half a million in number, all on small islands with small populations, who neither have the economies of scale nor the skills and resources that we find in countries or subregions with a similar geographical expanse.

Nevertheless, as stewards of a vast expanse of our ocean and the sea floor, we cannot afford for them to be vulnerable, and I am glad that the UN is stepping up its engagement in Micronesia to ensure that no one is left behind and to ensure that we help build a better future for all.

‘Expanding our UN footprint’

We quickly learned that our islands were small, with our subregional host, Pohnpei, having only about 30,000 people on island with many having left for education or work in the United States.

Yet, we persevered and were able to establish a fully functioning UN MCO Micronesia within two years after arrival in Pohnpei in late 2021. Right now, country coordination offices are in place for Palau, Marshall Islands, Nauru and Kiribati, and a fully functioning Resident Coordinator Office has been established.

The new office has enabled UN organisations to initiate the decentralisation of their work from Fiji and Samoa to Pohnpei. That resulted in expanding our UN footprint in Pohnpei from five in 2021 to  13 today .

‘Being on the ground makes a huge difference’

In parallel, I have worked closely with the governments of Micronesia and Pohnpei in setting the stage for the design and construction of the carbon-neutral One UN Micronesia House that incorporates Micronesian history and culture into its design and landscaping.

An undertaking that will include a conference facility will help us in bringing more UN-convened events to Micronesia and allow Micronesian leaders to engage with international leaders and experts on their home ground. We have made good progress with land already allocated by Pohnpei State Legislature, and a launch ceremony for the final design and construction will soon be held.

Not surprisingly, being on the ground makes a huge difference in appreciating and understanding the developmental and humanitarian challenges and opportunities within each of the five Micronesian countries and four states of Micronesia. In order to convey this effectively within our UN team, I travel frequently and engage with government counterparts, embassies, development partners, civil society, faith based leaders, chambers of commerce and communities.

Together, we aspire transformational change that leaves no one behind and helps a better future for all, one in which our planet with its finite natural resources and unique biodiversity is a key stakeholder.”

Aces Coach Refuses To Credit Caitlin Clark For WNBA Popularity

O n Wednesday, A'Ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum, and the Las Vegas Aces moved to 4-1 on the young 2024 WNBA season after an 80-66 win over the Minnesota Lynx.

Wilson had an incredible game, scoring 29 points on 11 of 23 shooting, grabbing 15 rebounds, and dishing out three assists. She also dominated on the defensive side of the ball, tallying four blocks and two steals. Plum added 10 points and six assists.

After the game, Aces coach Becky Hammon sat down with Wilson for a postgame interview. A reporter asked Hammon about the parity of the league, and she responded, refusing to give credit to Caitlin Clark for the popularity of the WNBA.

"Well, I think there is a lot of good players in this league. If you're just a recent follower of women's basketball, this has been brewing for a while," Hammon said, "Women's basketball has been at this boiling point. Building, building, building. And, you know, our arena was sold out long before Caitlin Clark was coming into the league."

The Aces have sold out 15 of their 20 home games in the 2024 WNBA season, the most in the league.

Hammon continued, "I think women's basketball has just been building. She’s (Clark) a part of the tipping point. She’s coming in at this time where it was ready to tip over and her presence has tipped some things over. But there has been a lot of other things going on behind the scenes to get us to this point by a lot of other people.”

Caitlin Clark, the Iowa Hawkeye turned Indiana Fever superstar, has captivated millions of new fans, significantly boosting the WNBA's overall viewership numbers.

"I think Caitlin is very gracious to mention those names too and understanding that the women that came before her to pave the way for this tipping point and this great time to be a women's basketball player," Hammon finished.

The Aces will travel to Atlanta to take on the Dream on Friday, May 31.

Albany State announces new Lady Rams basketball coach

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Albany State University Director of Athletics, Dr. Kristene Kelly, has announced Akia Stanton to assume the new women’s basketball head coach.

Stanton will begin her duties as the head women’s basketball coach, Saturday, June 1.

Coach Stanton has been the Talladega College of Alabama basketball coach for the past two seasons and had already put the pieces in play to turn the Lady Tornado program around.

ASU President, Marion Ross Fedrick says, “Albany State University is excited to welcome Coach Akia Stanton as a member of the Golden Rams staff. Her coaching experience demonstrates a commitment to upholding a standard of excellence, consistent with ASU’s mission. Coach Stanton’s proven leadership and coaching skills embody the ram spirit. Our student-athletes will benefit from her guidance both on and off the court. We encourage those on campus and in the community to come out and cheer on Coach Stanton and the Lady Rams for a successful season ahead.”

Stanton is no stranger to both success and building programs into successful teams on-and-off the court. In the last two seasons, Stanton guided Talladega College to a four-game improvement.

The results-driven coach aims to build upon ASU’s 2023-24 campaign where the Lady Rams ran off a pair of wins before bowing out in the SIAC Tournament Quarterfinals.

The Los Angeles Chargers have had a very, very active offseason already in 2024, hiring a starry, brand-new head coach in Jim Harbaugh and a brand-new general manager in Joe Hortiz, before offloading their top weapons in pass catching and running for Pro Bowl quarterback Justin Herbert and drafting eight players in what could be a loaded draft.

But that hardly means the club's offseason is over.

Organized team activities (OTAs) are already well underway, but the Chargers could still make moves. Now, one intriguing prospect is hitting the free agent market a bit late.

Bleacher Report's Jordan Schultz was the first to reveal that former Baltimore Ravens safety Tony Jefferson, who retired following his 2022 season run with the New York Giants, was un-retiring and entering free agency. Jefferson himself later confirmed the news on his own X account .

"Jefferson has stayed in shape, has been training, and wants to play again," Schultz writes. "He intends to start talking to teams in the near future after spending last season with Baltimore as a scouting intern."

Jefferson had worked alongside now-Chargers GM Hortiz in that capacity as a scouting intern. Now that his old boss has risen to power in Southern California, there at least seems like a realistic window for him to get a shot at joining the Bolts' new-look, smash-mouth defense under new coordinator Jesse Minter.

2022-2023 Conferences: MoroccoMUN, Harvard Model Congress Europe, Yale Model Government Europe The goals of the US team mirror that of the international team: increase opportunities for students to compete at Model UN conferences, provide world-class training and coaching, and build long-term relationships with students. We practice a solutions-oriented Model UN strategy, backed up by strong advocacy, debate, and negotiation skills.

Over the past several years, our US travel team has set it set apart on the Model UN circuit, winning delegation awards at almost all conferences we have attended. Our students boast a 70% individual award rate, capitalizing on our trusted training pedagogy.

Students may enroll in the year-long program, including all travel conferences, or enroll in specific conferences.

The international Model UN Travel Team by All-American Model UN includes all of the following for each conference. See Terms and Conditions for full details.

Airport Transfers

Conference fees, touring & attractions, 24-hour supervision and contact, 4 and 5-star hotel, breakfast & dinners, application and qualifications.

Students applying to the All-American Model UN team should have a consistent performance of excellence, not just in Model United Nations but also academically. We will assess each candidate on an individual basis and not against one another. Students should use their application to illustrate their strengths and progress throughout high school.

The US Travel Team will have a different set of criteria for acceptance compared to the International Travel Team, which had the highest standard. Students who attend a Summer Academy will be automatically accepted onto the US Travel Team. Typically, we will be looking for students who meet the following criteria:

• Students must have at least one year of competitive Model United Nations experience and participate in at least two conferences.
• The best candidates will have won at least one paper award (Honorable, Outstanding, Best, or the equivalent)
• Exemplary understanding of parliamentary procedure including moderated debate, motions and points, resolution writing, and voting procedure.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to thoroughly research advanced matters of international affairs, both in the present and past.
• Leadership experience either in Model United Nations or comparable co-curricular activities

We believe Model UN is a powerful vehicle to teach students fundamental, transferable skills. Our philosophy revolves around four pillars:

• Research and Preparation – All-American Model UN places a premium on research and pre-conference preparation. Students will be taught how to research complex international issues, analyze past actions taken, and develop new, novel approaches for solving some of the world’s biggest challenges.
• Pattern Recognition-  Model UN conferences, whether one day or five days, follow the same pattern or cycle. The All Access training program will divulge the “secret” pattern behind Model UN conferences and teach students how to best develop a strategy to succeed. Rather than constantly run mock simulations, we break Model UN down into smaller, more digestible segments.
• Emotional Intelligence-  Model UN teaches grit, determination, leadership, and team building. To better understand these skills, All-American Model UN believes in teaching emotional intelligence to its students.
• Advocacy- We believe that solutions without advocacy die in silence. Our training shows students how to be powerful advocates in formal debate and informal lobbying.

Frequently Asked Questions

What training do students receive when they enroll in the international travel team?

Students will work with the Program Director for each conference they attend. Training consists of virtual team meetings and at least 4 hours of individual training. Students will conduct research, write a position paper, and review Model UN procedure in addition to strategy meetings.

How do students get accepted onto the international travel team?

There are two ways by which students can be accepted to the US travel team. Students may either complete a Summer Academy , or they may apply directly for acceptance online at allamericanmun.com/apply . For students applying for direct acceptance, we will evaluate applications based on past performance at Model UN conference and academics.

Do students have to attend all conferences to participate on the international travel team?

No, students can opt to attend as many programs as they would like. Over 65% of our students attend multiple programs throughout the year. We offer program packages at discounted rates.

Can you accommodate dietary restrictions during conference weekends?

Yes, we can accommodate all dietary restrictions for students.

How old do you have to be to apply as a student?

You must be at least 14 years old and no older than 18 years old to enroll as part of the international travel team.

How do students travel to program locations? Do they travel together?

Our students come from all parts of the US, and sometimes internationally, to compete on our international travel team. When we have multiple students in a similar geography, we do our best to suggest travel plans to have students travel together. Most will arrive by plane independently. When students arrive at the destination airport, our staff meets them directly outside of security to escort them to the conference hotel.

What details can you share about security and supervision?

We provide 24/7 onsite supervision during international programs. In addition, most conferences have robust security details at night. Students are not allowed to leave the hotel on their own, and we enforce a strict curfew at night.

What types of financial assistance do you offer?

We will do our best to work with families to provide financial assistance on the All-American Model UN tuition. After a student has been accepted into the program, they will be given instruction on how to apply for financial assistance.

How do you enroll in a program?

After you’ve been accepted onto the team, students will receive access to an enrollment portal. The enrollment portal will give step-by-step instructions on how to submit tuition and finalize enrollment.

Adult (16+) and Children (3-15)

We strongly recommend that you bring a car seat appropriate to your child's age, but ask you to take responsibility to fit the seat.

Booster Seats

Children aged between approximately 4-11 years old, or up to 150cm tall, may use booster seats. We carry a limited number onboard most coaches.

If travelling with a child, you may be required to show proof of age when buying tickets or at any point during your journey. Failure to do so may result in the child being required to pay the full fare for the journey on that day.

Children aged 12 or under travelling on any European service must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over.

Senior (60 and over)
