Peter Foster, senior vice president of hotel operations and newbuild hotel design at Genting Cruise Lines, tells Jon Ingleton why Dream Cruises’ newest ship will wow guests

By Jon Ingleton | 07 September 2020

Dream Cruises caters for every passenger demographic but what will make Global Dream an appealing vacation choice for everyone when she debuts in 2021?

Global Dream’s universal appeal will be that she’s a convenient vacation option. Cruises provide a hassle-free way to travel where guests don’t need to pack and unpack, change hotels, catch connections or worry about organising activities for the family. Global Dream will truly be a floating integrated resort where our guests will have access to everything that they would want for a perfect holiday, such as a wide array of food and beverage options, entertainment and leisure activities (often included in the cruise fare), as well as shore excursions and duty free shopping. However, we want to cater for the multi-generational market, which is a booming segment in Asia, largely because of the cultural emphasis on unity and family. This family-centric view has led to an increasing number of people being open to sharing cruises with their loved ones.

In addition to an extensive variety of facilities and venues, we’ll provide onboard programmes and activities that will appeal to all family members – from young children to adults who are young at heart. For example, Dream Cruises offers Little Dreamers Academy, our signature programme which is tailor-made for children aged two to 12 years old, as well as Ageless Dreamers, our popular programme for senior travellers. We also have a variety of services for everyone in between, including Asian and Western spas, entertainment and leisure options, duty-free shopping and much more.

Global Dream will have various zones. Was there a formula you used to work out how much deck space to allocate to each one?

When planning our dining outlets, we assume that we will accommodate all guests in two seatings per meal. However, we design other spaces more organically to maximise their use and to create a sense of ‘hustle and bustle’ that appeals to our market. We are not looking to create overly formal spaces, rather our goal is to provide our guests with a sense of fun through a casual and relaxed atmosphere. All our zones are multifunctional and are designed to encourage our guests to move from one area to another, providing a seamless cruise entertainment experience.

Which internal teams collaborated in the design of the deck spaces?

The safety and security of our guests and crew is our top priority, so we make sure that our spaces are not only functional and user friendly, but that they also adhere to the highest possible safety and health standards. Consequently, several different teams and departments have been integral in the design of our public spaces onboard Global Dream to ensure we meet all the different needs of our guests. They include the marine operations, hotel operations, food and beverage, front office, entertainment, logistics, shore excursions, embarkation and port operations teams.

Global Dream’s top deck will be epic. What was the central focus of the design brief that everyone was working towards?

Our goal with Global Dream is to create a floating entertainment city where we can bring to life our ultimate vision of an integrated resort at sea. Our priority is to provide our guests with a vacation experience where the destinations are not the only highlights of the cruise – we want the ship to be a destination herself. As the saying goes, getting there is half the fun!

The ship will also have luxury facilities for premium passengers. What personality and style are you hoping to create for this area?

Imagine your ideal resort hideaway. The Palace is a luxurious ‘ship within a ship’ enclave that is available on all Dream Cruises ships and features exclusive suites and private facilities like a swimming pool, a spa, a gym and dining venues. Like on our other ships, intuition and indulgence will be at the heart of The Palace’s sumptuous accommodations onboard Global Dream. The plush interiors and smart features have been designed to enable us to keep both friends and families effortlessly comfortable and create a sense of home away from home – or to allow us to take guests on a thematic journey. The luxurious essence of The Palace will be further embodied by the meticulous, personalised service of a team of Dream Butlers who will be on hand to cater to guests’ every whim. This will ensure guests experience a smooth sailing and go home with memories to treasure.

What are your favourite areas on deck?

Apart from housing the longest roller coaster at sea, Global Dream will feature several fun and exhilarating rides for both children and adults. I would recommend our new zip line which will glide over our ship’s internal ‘canyon’ (Dream Avenue). This will truly be a thrill for adventure seekers.

Disney Cruise Line Announces Acquisition of Ship with Plans to Visit New Markets

Yolanda Cade

by Yolanda Cade , Yolanda Cade, Vice President, Communications and Public Affairs, Disney Signature Experiences

Disney Cruise Line will soon bring the magic of a Disney vacation to new global destinations.

Today, we announced plans to complete the cruise ship previously known as the Global Dream in Wismar, Germany. The ship will be renamed with certain features reimagined under the world-renowned expertise of Walt Disney Imagineers.

The new ship, to be based outside the United States, will feature innovative Disney experiences along with the dazzling entertainment, world-class dining and legendary guest service that set Disney Cruise Line apart. The exterior will be adorned in the iconic, Mickey Mouse-inspired colors of the fleet, complete with signature red funnels.

The 208,000-gross-ton ship is expected to be among the first in the cruise industry to be fueled by green methanol, one of the lowest emission fuels available. Disney Cruise Line expects the passenger capacity to be approximately 6,000 with around 2,300 crew members.

Construction will be completed at the former MV Werften shipyard in Wismar, Germany, under the management of Meyer Werft, the Papenburg-based company that built the Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy and Disney Wish.

More details about the maiden voyage, itineraries and onboard experiences will be announced at a later date. For more information about Disney Cruise Line, visit disneycruise.com .

Destinations: Disney Cruise Line

Frankly, I am commenting on this article very late, but after reading through all the replies and comparing them to my views, I agree with Virginia on this topic. The cruise line is traveling into what are uncharted waters for them. This ship was designed explicitly for the Asianic market. Disney has clarified that the ship will not be based out of the US, and I’m very happy to hear that. That is, unfortunately, the only good thing I can find in this post/article. Disney, in the past, has even said that they will sacrifice square footage to make a ship look more preventable because that is how they build the ships. You look at a Disney’s vessel and immediately say wow to the vessel’s design. They started the Cruise Line by designing ships to remind us of the golden age of cruising, and while it is incredible to hear they want to bring ships to a new market (more than likely, in this case Asia), this is not the way to do it. This is a very lazy way of doing things in the cruise industry; frankly, I find this could do more damage to the Disney Cruise Line brand if anyone here would like to see how things usually go when a cruise line buys another company’s ship, lookup the Norweigan Cruise Line (NCL) ship call the Pride of America. NCL bought other companies work, and now this ship spends most of its time away from the rest of the NCL fleet for good reasons. No offense to NCL. They did the best they could with the ship at the time, but as Virginia said, the ship is 75% complete and hasn’t even been touched by a member of the Walt Disney Imagineering team. This ship has its pros and its cons (from my eyes mostly cons.). But at the end of the day, Disney got a great deal on the ship but if that’s the new path that Disney Cruise Line is going down I’d rather stick with the four ships I know and love that follow those original Disney Cruise Line practices.

@Virginia, I wouldn’t call it a mistake at all because we don’t know how much they paid for it, and depending on the price this seems like an absolutely brilliant move.

The ship was going to be scrapped if it didn’t have a buyer, which getting one was very unlikely… so they probably sold it dirt cheap, and I’m assuming it was VERY cheap.

The exact reason for this ship is not to be Carnival or what you may be used to. It’s not an outright American ship it’s an International ship which will need to cater to different customs, amenities, likes, and clientele… that’s exactly who and why the ship was being built before Disney even got involved.

This gives Disney an easy way to test out a foreign operated ship with minimal risk or expense to themselves. Even if it doesn’t work out… it’s pennies to Disney, so regardless of the end results it will give them valuable information on what works, and how best to navigate and expand into the international cruise market when they do decide to build a ship of their own

I tend to agree with the naysayer above. The ship is almost done, therefore no real changes can be made to cabins, dining, or common areas. Basically only paint and some accents will make the exteriors look Disney. What can they do with what is already built to non-Disney standards.

Got a Name, “The Disney Mistake” Not one Imagineer has touched this ship and it is 75% done. This is sad. Disney had a reputation for being meticulous in design and attention to detail, now they buy off a clearance rack and slap some Monica Blue on it.

I don’t understand all the excitement about this. Disney bought a ship that is 75% built. Not one Disney Imagineer has touched this ship. Disney bought a ship built by a shipbuilder that went bankrupt, building a ship for a cruise line that went bankrupt. A ship that the new owners of the bankrupt line, Resorts World Cruises apparently did not want. I am sure there were cost cutting measures on this ship. DIsney Cruise line is known for high quality and attention to detail at every stage of a DCL ship build. That is what makes them special. That moment when a guest board the ship and enters the grand Atrium of the ship is amazing and a truly magical moment. I checked out the sister ship, ironically ,“The Dream”, of the new acquisition, passengers board to a promenade deck then enter through a random hallway. Their rooms are TINY, even the ones with balconies. There are no split baths, the one bath is tiny. Disney is known for well appointed and roomy staterooms. Slapping Monica Blue Pail on aa artist Rendering does not make it a Disney Ship. If I am going to pay DCL rates I don’t want Carnival type accommodations. I will pass on booking passage on this ship. I don’t know what it will be named officially, I shall be calling it “The Disney Mistake”.

Great News! And do you already know how it will be re-baptized? Obviously it can’t be Disney Dream..

I’m excited for what Disney has in store for this thing

Very exciting news!!! Looking forward to it. Hopefully can book for the maiden voyage. I really hope that Disney listen to us, the guests, and don’t use the same Disney Wish design.

I christen thee the Disney Supremacy, SSD class. Looking forward to seeing some Disney on Ice shows on the seas! With a ship that big the possibilities are almost endless with new cabins, venues, restaurants and attractions. I’m ready to book!

To give perspective, the Disney Wish is 144,000 gross tonnage and carries around 4000 guests with 1500 crew.

This is the dream I didn’t know I wanted!

Please make this ship or another one entirely Star Wars themed please, thank you, and you’re welcome:)

Set to be the world's biggest cruise ship, the 'Global Dream' is now seeking a buyer

The vessel, which sits unfinished in a german shipyard, reportedly cost $1.8bn to build.

A number of potential buyers are lining up for Genting Hong Kong’s Global Dream — the unfinished mega-liner set to be the world’s biggest cruise ship by capacity — and a deal needs to be signed by summer when the company’s closed German shipbuilder will run out of cash, said the liquidator overseeing the sale.

Still, the ship will not be sold in a rush despite it sitting unfinished in a German shipyard that has filed for insolvency, according to Christoph Morgen, the German court-appointed provisional insolvency administrator for MV Werften, the shipbuilding unit owned by Genting.

The vessel’s sale, which began with three potential buyers, has now attracted a “significant number” of interested parties, including investors who are keen on it as part of a larger purchase that includes operator Dream Cruises, Mr Morgen told Bloomberg News.

“We will have a speedy process, but there is no need for a fire sale,” Mr Morgen said from Berlin. “Our target is to get the highest price.”

The Global Dream reportedly cost $1.8 billion to build and lenders had financed about €1.4bn ($1.6bn) for the ship’s construction.

Mr Morgen declined to give a price for how much it will cost to complete the ship but said he wants interested buyers to bid for the whole value of the completed vessel and not simply “completion costs plus a little on top".

The cruise ship is currently under construction. AP

Because Global Dream is so heavily financed — credit was provided by a consortium of more than a dozen lenders and four guarantee providers — a sale will not make much difference to Genting Hong Kong.

MV Werften’s provisional insolvency in early January was a critical turning point for the company, which became the world’s biggest cruise operator to seek court assistance to protect its assets during the Covid-19 pandemic when it filed a wind-up petition days later.

Genting reported a record loss of $1.7bn in May as the pandemic ravaged the cruise ship industry.

Mr Morgen said his priorities include finding buyers for the shipyards under MV Werften and the Global Dream vessel.

He is optimistic a deal will be struck before or by summer, when the shipyard in Wismar, Germany that is building the mega Global Dream runs out of money. Once that happens, it will be harder for the shipyard to return to normal operations, he said.

The 342-metre liner, about as long as a football field and designed to carry 9,500 passengers, was heralded as ushering in a new era of mega ships that could tap Asia’s growing cruising market.

The 342-metre liner is nearly as long as a football field and designed to carry 9,500 passengers. AP

Although some potential buyers are interested in only purchasing the Global Dream to add to their fleet, others are keen on a Genting package that gives them access to the Asian market, said Mr Morgen.

Most of the interested parties are cruise ship companies or operators backed by private equity, he said. Some serious investors have already signed non-disclosure agreements to engage in talks.

“There are potential buyers looking at an entry package to enter the Asian cruise ship market by buying Dream cruises as a business plus vessels currently operated by Dream cruises, plus Global One and potentially Global Two,” said Mr Morgen, referring to the mega ships by their original generic names.

Billionaire Lim Kok Thay, Genting Hong Kong’s recently resigned chairman and chief executive, expressed early interest in purchasing the ship, said Mr Morgen.

The sale is not contingent on the buyer completing the ship’s construction at the Wismar shipyard where it now sits, he said.

A shipbuilder waits in front of the stern of the Global Dream. AP

The ship was about 72 per cent finished when the German government and Genting could not agree in December on plans to finance $620 million to help complete it and keep the shipyard in business, according to a letter Mr Kok Thay wrote to creditors in January.

Genting had a written plan by mid-2021 to wind up MV Werften and place it in a “solvent liquidation”, said Mr Morgen.

The fully financed plan detailed how MV Werften would pay all its creditors in the liquidation process, and the plan had been analysed by an independent auditor. It was decided that Global Dream would be the last vessel built by the shipbuilder and the company had stopped taking in any new customers, Mr Morgen said.

Although there was still some hope that alternative scenarios could be developed in order to continue operations, there was “no permanent continuation of the MV Werften business”, in the plan, Mr Morgen said.

“MV Werften planned to finish construction of the vessel, repay all debt, repay the state and have some equity value left,” said Morgen.

German Economy Minister Robert Habeck said his government did everything in its power to save MV Werften.

Mr Habeck said on Monday that the government would be willing to subsidise the final construction of the Global Dream with a “new reliable investor”.

If a buyer for the Global Dream contributes 10 per cent of construction costs, there is a “real chance” to secure the construction financing from the existing construction financing lender and convince the state to guarantee it, said Mr Morgen.

No amenities have been announced yet, but the company said the ship will feature “innovative Disney experiences along with the dazzling entertainment, world-class dining and legendary guest service that set Disney Cruise Line apart.” The ship, which will be based outside of the US, will also be one of the first fueled by low-emission green ethanol.

The finished boat will have room for 6,000 passengers and around 2,300 crew members. That would make it smaller than its sister was expected to be— Global Dream II was supposed to have room for 9,000 passengers—but the 208,000-gross-ton boat will still be the world’s seventh largest and the largest in Disney’s fleet. The conglomerate did not reveal how much it paid for the Global Dream , other than to say it was secured at a “favorable price.”

“Our cruise ships give us the unique opportunity to bring Disney magic to fans no matter where they are, and the addition of this ship will make a Disney Cruise Line vacation accessible to more families than ever before,” Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, said in a statement.

Singapore Revealed as the Future Home Port for Disney Cruise Line’s ‘GLOBAL DREAM Project’

On March 29, 2023, an exclusive partnership between Disney Cruise Line and the Singapore Tourism Board was announced which will establish a presence for the cruise line in Southeast Asia with the ‘GLOBAL DREAM project’ home porting in Singapore .

Disney Cruise Line And Singapore Tourism Board To Bring Magical

The new vessel acquired by Disney Cruise Line late last year , is still undergoing a Disney remodel, however details of the yet to be renamed GLOBAL DREAM have yet to be announced.

Under a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding, Disney Cruise Line and Singapore Tourism Board agreed to collaborate to homeport a brand-new Disney cruise ship exclusively in Singapore for at least five years beginning in 2025. More details about the maiden voyage, itineraries and onboard experiences will be announced at a later date.

The announcement was revealed by Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro and Singapore’s Minister for Transport and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, S. Iswaran.

“This is a very exciting year for The Walt Disney Company — 2023 marks our 100th anniversary,” D’Amaro said. “As part of this, Disney Cruise Line is currently undergoing an ambitious expansion with new ships and new destinations around the world. We are incredibly excited to make Singapore the home port to our seventh-launched ship, which will sail from here year-round starting in 2025.”

DCL Singapore Concept Announcement

“We look forward to welcoming the magic of Disney Cruise Line to Singapore in 2025,” said Keith Tan, Chief Executive, Singapore Tourism Board (STB). “This is an important milestone for STB and reflects Disney Cruise Line’s strong confidence in Singapore and Southeast Asia. The new Disney cruise ship will be an attraction itself and is expected to boost the tourism sector in Singapore for many years to come.”

Singapore’s strategic location, world-class air connectivity and port infrastructure make it a thriving cruise hub in Southeast Asia, a diverse region that is home to over 40 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The addition of a Disney Cruise Line ship in Singapore has the potential to add millions of local and foreign cruise passengers across the five-year period, including fly-cruise passengers who arrive in Singapore by air. It is also expected to bring about significant spillover benefits for the wider economy. These include greater demand for port and ship-related services, as well as on-ground spending in Singapore for the lifestyle and hospitality sectors.

The new ship will feature innovative Disney experiences along with the dazzling entertainment, world-class dining and legendary guest service that set Disney Cruise Line apart. Guests of all ages will find dedicated spaces and activities designed just for them, and families will create unforgettable memories with beloved characters such as Captain Mickey Mouse and Captain Minnie Mouse, Disney Princesses, Marvel Super Heroes and more.

Disney Cruise Line estimates the passenger capacity of the 208,000-gross-ton ship to be approximately 6,000 with around 2,300 crew members. It is expected to be among the first in the cruise industry to be fueled by green methanol, one of the lowest emission fuels available.

Construction is projected to be completed at the MV Werften shipyard in Wismar, Germany, under the management of Meyer Werft, the Papenburg-based company that built the Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy and Disney Wish and is constructing two additional Wish-class ships.

17 Replies to “Singapore Revealed as the Future Home Port for Disney Cruise Line’s ‘GLOBAL DREAM Project’”

Cue the Americans asking if they need a passport for Singapore or will a birth certificate do ?

' src=

Not sure I would want to be on this ship as China is friends with Russia not the USA. By 2025, we may be at war with China.

' src=

Singapore is its own country…

' src=

@pppooooppp Singapore is not part of china.

Russia is closer to the US (Bering Straight) than Singapore is to China

' src=

Singapore, a city-state located at the end of the Maylay Peninsula located 2,325 miles as the crow flies from the nearest Chinese border, is allied with the US, Britain, Australia to name a few. It has one of the highest per capita incomes in the world, is ultra modern and enjoys great economic power due to its unique geographical location!

' src=

Well there’s a geography fail.

' src=

Appropriate user name for this comment.

' src=

One geography textbook needed!

' src=

This is a troll comment. Just look at the profile name…

' src=

Looks like they removed the third (5th and 6th) funnel from this pic of the ship.

' src=

Not a safe part of the world without the presence of the US Navy

' src=

Singapore is an exceptionally safe country, possibly the safest in SE Asia. The US does not and should not rule the world, but if it makes you feel better we do in fact have a base in Singapore. “The U.S. Navy maintains a logistical command unit, Logistics Group Western Pacific, in Singapore.”

' src=

Umm, Royal Caribbean/Princess/Celebrity to name just a few cruise lines, port out of there without any issue.

' src=

superb!! welcome Disney Cruise.

I feel a 15 night Trans-Pacific cruise from Singapore to LA coming up.

It's one thing to be fun, but it's another thing to be first. Carnival Dream was at the forefront of a recent wave of amazingly innovative and fun Carnival ships. As the genesis of the Dream class, Carnival Dream set the direction for the ships that followed in her footsteps — first Carnival Magic and then Carnival Breeze. But back to Carnival Dream: the ship itself is a unique experience with the way-fun RedFrog Rum Bar ® and the very cool BlueIguana Tequila Bar ™ . Get your appetite ready, because you're gonna need it. Carnival Dream features two dual-level dining rooms, a gourmet steakhouse and dedicated sushi spot Bonsai Sushi ™ . It's also got a full menu of our latest and greatest casual spots for a bite: BlueIguana Cantina ™ , Pizzeria del Capitano, Guy's Burger Joint ™ and Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse ™ . (That's Guy as in Guy Fieri, by the way — so you know the food's delish.) Carnival Dream also features the borderline-magical Alchemy Bar ® and Ocean Plaza, which combines tasty treats with perhaps even tastier entertainment. Entertainment options are all up and down the ship, and so is soaking-wet fun, from the heart-racing waterslide action at Carnival WaterWorks ™ to the soul-soothing Thalassotherapy pool at the Cloud 9 Spa ™ . Despite its name, Carnival Dream is definitely a reality. Can't believe it? Pinch yourself... and book your dream cruise today.

Everything You Need to Know About Traveling on the Disney Dream

I love all five of the Disney Cruise Line ships that I’ve been on, but I seem to spend the most time on the Disney Dream ship. It’s a beautiful ship with so many things for kids and adults to do, and because of the itineraries on the Disney Dream, it’s a pretty easy cruise to take for a quick getaway.

If you plan to cruise on the Disney Dream, here is everything that you need to know, including things to do on the Disney Dream.

If you want to take a cruise on the Disney Dream, be sure to book with Get Away Today. When you mention Family Travel Magazine, you get an extra $25 on board credit! Give their agents a call at 877-510-2929.

The Disney Dream is the third ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet – and the first of the larger Dream class ships (the other being the Disney Fantasy ).  It was brought into service in 2011 after a christening by Jennifer Hudson (who was once an entertainer aboard the Disney Wonder ).

It offers 1,250 staterooms and can accommodate up to 4,000 passengers. It definitely feels like a large ship – it takes a while to completely explore it. After seven different sailings on the ship, I feel like there are still areas that I haven’t explored.

Staterooms on the Disney Dream

Our family usually books an oceanview stateroom with verandah. Those offer a king bed as well as a set of bunk beds.

There are a variety of room types on the Disney Dream, including concierge rooms, verandah rooms, oceanview staterooms (with one or two porthole windows but no verandah), and inside rooms (that offer a “magical” porthole). Connecting staterooms are also available for larger groups.

Staterooms have a split bathroom (one room with a sink and toilet and one room with a shower/tub), a refrigerator, a closet, a safe, a hairdryer, and a television. Note that there are some rooms that only have one single bathroom.

Rooms include H2O toiletries that are mounted on the shower wall and generally have lots of space in various compartments for storing things. We always unpack right away and store our suitcases under the bed in our stateroom. That way, you’ll definitely have more room to move around.

Irons are not available in the room, but there are laundry rooms on the ship with iron facilities. If I need to iron anything, I like to do that on the first day so I can just hang things up and not worry about them. Check the map or ask your stateroom attendant where the laundry room is.

The beds on the ship are very comfortable – I find that I sleep so well on a cruise ship because of the light sway and the great room darkening shades.

Some rooms have bunk beds. For those, your stateroom attendant will pull down the bunk every evening and put it away in the morning if you’d like to use it. There are also rooms with trundle beds, which can accommodate up to 5 passengers.

If you are wondering what stateroom on the Disney Dream to book, you should consider how much time you plan to spend in the room, and what you plan to do in the room. When we sail, I love to grab a cup of coffee and sit outside watching the waves.

I also love watching the ship pull into port in the morning. Because of that, I’ve found that the verandah rooms are best for us. But they are definitely more expensive, so you’ll want to make sure you will use it.

If you don’t plan to spend much time in the room, an oceanview stateroom or an inside room may be a better option. It’s more economical, and you can always go on deck if you’d like to see outside. There are plenty of places to sit on the deck where you can see the ship pulling into port.

Room location may also be important to you. I generally don’t care too much, but I don’t like being right below the pool, or too close to the elevators. When traveling with friends and no kids, I like to be above the adult-only sections so they are easy to get to.

Like on the other ships, passengers on the Disney Dream often like to decorate their doors with stateroom door magnets . It’s a great way to identify your door when walking down the halls. If you want to do this, you’ll want to get prepared in advance.

My kids love picking out magnets before we leave on vacation. We typically add these to our day bag so we can decorate as soon as we are able to access our room, without waiting for our luggage.

See our in-depth review of the staterooms on the Disney Dream here .

Restaurants on the Disney Dream

What restaurants are on the Disney Dream? The Disney Dream offers the same unique rotational dining experience that the other Disney Cruise Line ships offer. There are three main restaurants on the Disney Dream – Animator’s Palate, Royal Palace, and Enchanted Garden.

You’ll be assigned a specific rotation when you arrive at the port and will have the same dining staff during your entire cruise.

If you are on a four-day or five-day cruise, you’ll get assigned one or two restaurants twice. I have a child with food allergies, so I find it helpful to have the same servers because they already know us and the food restrictions.

At Animator’s Palate, you’ll see a fun show featuring Finding Nemo’s crush. It’s the most lively of the restaurants and is always my kids’ favorite.

Royal Palace is the more upscale restaurant, featuring delicious French food (try the escargot appetizer). It seems more luxurious but is still pretty casual. My favorite menu on the ship is at Royal Palace.

Enchanted Garden is absolutely beautiful – watch as the ceiling darkens from day to night during your dinner.

In addition to the three main restaurants, there are some quick-serve options. Cabanas is the buffet restaurant that offers breakfast and lunch, in addition to the delicious evening buffet on Pirate Night . There is seating both indoors and outdoors.

In addition, you can forgo your usual dining rotation and go to Cabanas on select nights. If it’s nice outside, I’d definitely recommend grabbing your breakfast and lunch and heading outside to eat.

Cabanas is fully staffed by the regular dining room staff, so if you need any assistance, or have food allergies, you’ll definitely find someone who can help.

There are other quick-service locations that serve pizza, salads, and sandwiches. We sometimes want a quick snack and will grab a slice of pizza – especially if we have the second dinner seating.

For coffee lovers, you’ll want to check out the Cove Cafe, which serves premium coffee. It’s only for adults and can be a nice place to sit and read a book as you sip your coffee.

You can also get Dole Whips (both with and without alcohol) at Frozone Treats on Deck 11.  Room service is available to order 24 hours a day, except for disembarkation day.

For itineraries stopping at Castaway Cay , you’ll find two delicious BBQ restaurants on the family beach, as well as an adult-only BBQ restaurant at Serenity Bay. Servers from the ship travel out to the island to serve at these three locations.

For an additional fee, adults can choose to dine at Palo , the upscale Italian restaurant onboard, or Remy, the upscale French restaurant.

In addition, Palo’s often offers brunch on one day of the cruise. The brunch is absolutely delicious – I definitely recommend checking it out. While it has changed from a buffet to a sit down meal, it’s still fantastic.

If you want to eat at Palo, book it in advance so you’ll have your choice of times. The brunch especially is pretty popular and does book up.

Between Palo and Remy, you’ll find the Meridian bar, which offers alcoholic beverages in a bar with gorgeous views. I love grabbing a drink there before my meal at Palo.

If you are cruising with kids, you’ll probably find that they are happy to spend time in the kids’ clubs while you are eating. My kids usually order room service and then head to the kids’ clubs when my husband and I go to Palo.

Adult Areas on the Disney Dream

The kids’ clubs are fantastic on the Disney Cruise Line , so you’ll probably have some opportunity to explore the ship without kids. My kids always love checking out the kids’ clubs, and we even have to convince them to leave.

There are several adult-only areas and activities on the ship. The bars and clubs in the District section are adult-only in the evenings and offer entertainment and game shows.

My favorite adult-only area of the ship is Satellite Falls, which has a small waterfall/pool, as well as many lounge chairs. When my kids are in the kids’ clubs, I always enjoy grabbing a book and reading in the quiet area.

The ship also has a Senses Spa, which is a full-service spa offering lots of different services. For a treat, book a day pass for the Rainforest Room, where you can enjoy heated lounge chairs, two jacuzzis, a steam room, and much more.

Activities on the Disney Dream

There are so many things to do on the Disney Dream. You’ll even find that many guests don’t disembark at some ports because they are having so much fun on the ship. My kids especially love the kids’ clubs.

There are several options, depending on your kids’ ages, including a nursery, Oceaneer Club, Edge, and Vibe. There’s an open house that is held on the first day, so you can walk around and check things out with your kids.

There are also pools, the Aqualab splash area, and the famous AquaDuck – a watercoaster where you can travel in a tube around the ship.  At the pool deck, you’ll find the FunnelVision TV, which offers movies and shows throughout the day.

You can also see first-run Disney movies in the theater. We usually skip the movies, however, because there is so much more to do. On longer sailings, my kids love sitting in the water watching a FunnelVision movie.

Families will enjoy the various game shows and activities offered in D Lounge throughout the day. For adults, there are some alcohol-tasting classes that you can sign up for (additional fees apply).

I’ve done a few of these and have always enjoyed them – my favorite is the wine tasting. You can sign up for these once you get on the ship.

There are also a variety of character greetings throughout the day – check the Disney Cruise Line app for a full schedule. In addition, make sure that you check the navigator on the first day ., because there are sometimes character greetings that require tickets.

For those kids who love to dress up, there’s a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique onboard, which shifts to a Pirates League on Pirate Night.

Shows on the Disney Dream

What shows are on the Disney Dream? There are three Broadway-style shows that you can see on the ship. Currently, these are the Golden Mickey’s, Beauty and the Beast, and Disney’s Believe. Read our review of Beauty and the Beast here .

These are very high-quality shows and can be great for kids. They generally run twice per night, and you’ll go to the showing that is opposite your dinner seating time. If you haven’t seen them, I definitely recommend going to each of the shows.

Itineraries on the Disney Dream

What are the Disney Dream itineraries? In the past, the Disney Dream sailed from Port Canaveral on three or four-night Bahamian sailings and was a great option for a Disney Land and Sea vacation because it was easy to combine one of these shorter cruises with a Walt Disney World vacation.

However, with the introduction of the Disney Wish , which has taken over that schedule, the Disney Dream now offers different sailings.

Home ports include Fort Lauderdale, New York, San Juan, Southhampton, and Barcelona. These cruises range in length from three to thirteen nights.

Other Things You’ll Find on the Disney Dream

In addition to everything we’ve also discussed, there are lots of other things you’ll find on the ship. These include a photo studio (where you can purchase the photos that are taken of you on the ship), a rebooking desk (book your next cruise while onboard and you’ll get a discount), a port adventure desk, a port shopping desk, and so much more.

There are also several shops onboard selling sundries and Disney merchandise. It’s important to know that these shops do not open when the ship is in port, only when it is sailing. It’s important to make sure you pack everything you need because it’s tough to buy essentials on board.

If you are wondering what a Disney Cruise costs , visit this post.

Frequently Asked Questions

The three main dining rooms are Animator’s Palate, Royal Palace, and Enchanted Garden. There are also two adult dining locations (Palo and Remy), a buffet (Cabanas), and several quick-serve spots.

Upcoming itineraries include the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Canada, Europe, and Bermuda.

They are very similar ships, with many of the same amenities. Some of the bars and lounges are a bit different. Both are great ships.
