We will hear stories from vendors whose families were the first in the market to new shops revitalizing the hip neighborhood. Our 7+ tastings will include some of the country's freshest hummus, street food, produce, baked goods and Yemenite cuisine.

We will visit grandfathers at their third- and fourth-generation shops as well as young and inspired trendy spots bringing a new vibe to this hipster-forward neighborhood.

Eat Tel Aviv
Length of tour: 4.5 hours, jaffa port → carmel market.
Join us for a walk (long, but relatively flat) that weaves its way from the historic Jaffa Port to the diverse neighborhoods of Jaffa and Tel Aviv. Through the lens of food, we learn about the history and development of the Israeli culinary scene. Throughout the tour we will taste 10+ different delicacies, ranging from hummus at Israel's top hole-in-the-wall to street food to modern gastronomy. We will explore the neighborhoods of the Jaffa Flea Market, Neve Tzedek and cap off the tour in the Yemenite quarter and Carmel Market to taste what's in season. While a camera is highly suggested, the only thing we require of guests is that they come prepared with a big appetite (i.e., please eat a light breakfast ☺)!
People who want to do a city tour through the lens of food. The tour is a taste of Jaffa and Tel Aviv's neighborhoods while learning the history of the city's growth
Visitors who enjoy lots of walking and sightseeing. The route is approximately 4-5 kilometers at a relaxed pace. There are two small hills, so mobility is necessary
Families with longer attention spans (shorter spans please look towards the shorter tours)
Eaters who are okay with carbs, sugar and gluten. If you are avoiding these, please inquire about one of our market tours, which may be more fitting
What to bring:
Comfy walking shoes
Bottle of water
Hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and anything else you need to be comfortable on a hot Tel Aviv day (umbrella and rain coat in the winter)
Eat Jerusalem (Machane Yehuda Market)
Length of tour: 2.5 hours.
Our tour in Jerusalem introduces guests to the cornerstone of where ancient and modern meet – in the stalls of the country's largest outdoor market, Machane Yehuda. We will taste and peruse the aisles alongside local chefs and residents purchasing groceries, tasting lots of wonderful bakery goodies, farm-fresh produce, artisanal cheeses, spices and sweets. Through our tastings we weave through the alleys learning about how drastically the market has shifted over the past decade.
Visitors to Jerusalem that want to enjoy a "grazing" meal through the market
HaTikva Market (Tel Aviv)
Still largely untouched by tourism, and under-the-radar (even for many locals!), the Hatikva Market and its surroundings offer the perfect area for food exploration. Serving the historically working-class neighborhood of Hatikva, this open-air shopping market located in southeast Tel Aviv offers a diverse array of traditional Israeli foods and lesser-known ethnic specialties. Expect to visit traditional Yemenite and Turkish bakeries, taste Jewish-Iraqi comfort food, discover unique spices and blends, and experience how the neighborhood is shifting throughout our 7+ stops.

What you can expect
Enjoy a guided tour of Jaffa Old City, a primarily Muslim district, and its historic port on a guided tour of Tel Aviv. See ancient history blended with vibrant culture, stunning architecture, winding streets, and rich heritage. Discover hidden gems and visit historic landmarks.
Begin the tour at Abulafia, the oldest bakery in Jaffa, where you can purchase a coffee or bakery item. Then it is off to Clock Tower Square with its iconic clock tower, a landmark that also serves as a gateway to the Old City.
Next up is St. Peter's Church, a 19th-century Franciscan church with a rich history. Learn about the site where the apostle Peter stayed while visiting Jaffa. Enjoy beautiful views of the city, the coastline, and the Mediterranean Sea.
Then it is on to Kdumim Square, a charming plaza lined with restaurants, cafes, and shops. Take a moment to soak in the lively atmosphere and consider coming back here later for a coffee or a bite to eat.
Next, explore one of the highlights of the Old City, the famous Flea Market (Shuk Hapishpishim). See as your guide points out antique shops, art galleries, clothing boutiques, and street vendors – all selling a variety of goods, and all available for a good price once you learn how to haggle.
Walking through the narrow streets of this Muslim district, come across the Mahmoudiya Mosque, an impressive Ottoman-era mosque. Appreciate the beautiful architecture and serene ambiance of this sacred place.
Move onward to explore the picturesque port. Learn about Jaffa Port's long history, dating back over 3,000 years. Follow your guide on a leisurely stroll along the waterfront, admire the boats, and take in the maritime atmosphere.
Nearby the port, visit Andromeda's Rock, a legendary spot where the mythical princess Andromeda was said to have been saved from a sea monster by Perseus. Take photos of the coastline and the Tel Aviv skyline from this area.
Finish at the southernmost end of the famous Tel Aviv Promenade which runs 8 kilometers north, along the beachfront, all the way to the Port of Tel Aviv.
Tel Aviv Highlights Walking Tour
Tel Aviv is dubbed “the city that never sleeps.” It’s always moving. There’s always something going on. But there are also many things that stay the same – the historical buildings of Old Jaffa, the beautiful sea, the vibrant Carmel Market, and the Bauhaus buildings in the city center. On this private walking tour of Tel Aviv, we’ll visit the highlights of the city and get a taste of its past, present, and future. This is a great overview tour for visitors to Tel Aviv.
Highlights of the tour
Today, Jaffa and Tel Aviv are the same city. But in the past, they were two separate cities. Jewish people who settled in the Arab city of Jaffa eventually left the city to establish Tel Aviv, the first Hebrew city in the Land of Israel. Today, Jaffa is a charming place with an impressive flea market and art galleries. We’ll visit the main sites of Old Jaffa, enjoy a splendid view of Tel Aviv, and learn the importance of this place in both Biblical and modern times.
Rothschild Boulevard
Rothschild Boulevard is the heart of Tel Aviv and was one of its first streets. Until today, Rothschild Boulevard is the center of the city – with popular restaurants, shops, banks, and institutions aligning it. We’ll walk on the Independence Trail to learn about the establishment of the State of Israel and the history of Tel Aviv and absorb a bit of the city’s vibes.
Carmel Market
The Carmel Market is definitely a highlight for foodies. It is the most popular market in Tel Aviv, with stalls selling clothes, souvenirs, and… food! We’ll walk through the market to experience its atmosphere and maybe stop to taste some things (if you’ll be hungry).
Suggested itinerary
- Meet at Jaffa Clocktower.
- Visit Old Jaffa.
- Walk through Florentin neighborhood.
- Explore the sites along and around Rothschild Boulevard.
- Go to the Carmel Market.
- End with a fantastic view of the Mediterranean Sea.
The tour is fully customizable. So, please let me know what places you want to see and what you want to do!
I might change the itinerary based on the weather or other circumstances, to make sure you have a safe and good time.
Tour details
Meeting point: We can meet at Jaffa Clocktower or your hotel. We’ll walk or take a bus from there to the first point of the tour.
How long does it take? Private Tel Aviv Highlights walking tours typically take about 3 to 5 hours, depending on your pace and interests. But it’s flexible.
When does the tour start? You’re the boss. Tell me when you want to start the tour and I’ll be there on time. I recommend starting the tour early in the morning, so we won’t get caught in the heat of the afternoon.
What do you need to bring? I’ll send you a list before the tour starts, but in general, it’s recommended to bring good walking, a hat, sunglasses, drinking water, and sunscreen.
How much does it cost? The tour price is 1,200 shekels (about 300 USD) for up to 6 people. This covers my preparation for the tour as well as the guiding itself. If you would like to visit sites with entry fees, it will be extra.
More about me
I’m Lior and I’ll be your guide on this tour. I love Israel and have completed my tour guiding course in 2019. While I live in Jerusalem, that doesn’t mean I don’t know Tel Aviv, I visit Tel Aviv very often and love the special vibe of the city. On this private tour, I hope I’ll be able to share my knowledge and love to Israel with you! Read more about me here.

Carmel Market
The Carmel Market, stretching southwards from Allenby St. to less than a km from the Inter Continental David Hotel, is the largest and busiest market in Tel Aviv - or in Israel for that matter. Spices, pickled treats, fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers, meat and fish, household goods, baking goods and more: quantities are enormous and the prices are low.
fresh fruits and vegetables
Rub shoulders with a cross-section of Israel in this market’s crowded and bustling streets and lanes; enjoy the stall vendors as they pitch their wares. You may not understand the language, but there's no escaping the exuberance. It is the essence of Tel Aviv’s Middle Eastern character and also the place to find excellent bargains.
Savor the noise, smells and excitement. The friendly vendors best patter in Hebrew, usually praising their goods, but will also enjoy babbling in English, or bits and pieces of other languages if they notice a visitor and guess where he or she is from.
Exploring the market for its local fast food counters and range of informal restaurants can make any visit to that more enjoyable, and combining it with a tour of the adjoining Yemenite Quarter (“Kerem HaTemanim”), which offers an excellent choice of casual ethnic restaurants for dining throughout the day - a sense of Tel Aviv from before the time the city was even founded - will only enhance the experience.
Whether you spend just an hour or two rubbing shoulders with Carmel Market regulars and the tourists that flock there, or put on your walking shoes for an extended though leisurely romp exploring the market's toothsome delights, this is one Tel Aviv institution that is sure to be high on any Tel Aviv visitor's list of tourism musts.

Are you wondering how to see Tel Aviv in a weekend or more? There’s so much to see in this compact city, from its beaches to its historical sights, with stops for food along the way.
Rothschild Boulevard in Tel Aviv
Let’s start with Tel Aviv’s Rothschild Boulevard, where there’s no shortage of brunch spots. Along Rothschild, you’ll find a leafy greenway and some important sights like Israel’s Independence Hall.
Walk west toward Shabazi Street, a narrow road that has turned posh and is now lined with boutique shops and small restaurants. Don’t stop there - take a walk down a charming side street and then find your way to the water.
In this area of the city you’ll find the decade-old Charles Clore Park, which has made Tel Aviv’s southern beach boardwalk a pleasure. With green lawns on one side and the clear Mediterranean on the other, walk south to Old Jaffa Port.
How to walk to Jaffa?
By following signs, you will find your way up stone steps to the most famous viewpoint for seeing the TLV skyline and shoreline. This is where everyone snaps a photo (near the old cannons)! Continue to Jaffa’s old town, which is home to a well-known flea market and more recently, a flourishing restaurant scene.
6 places to eat in Tel Aviv
Around Tel Aviv, these are some of our favorite places for eating and drinking:
- The Shine : pizza, Israeli cuisine and drinks
- Shawarma Sheinkin : fast shawarma and falafel
- Bon Taim : fast shawarma and falafel
- Bread & Co. : coffee, breads and healthy lunch items
- Concierge : happy hour in a beautifully-thought-out design
- Whiskey Bar : based in a cellar under Sarona Market
Carmel Market
Back near Allenby St., make sure you spend some time in Carmel Market , where you’ll find anything from giant slabs of halva (sesame candy) to pomegranates, eggplants, handicrafts and souvenirs. Be sure to check out the small alleys off to the side at any point. This is where you’ll find more local food joints!
Did you make it to the beach yet? Tel Aviv’s beach comes in two sections - the southern stretch from the foot of Jaffa up until Charles Clore Park, and then from Banana Beach to Gordon Beach, near the big-name hotels.
It’s here where you can watch people playing intense beach volleyball, the Israeli game ‘matkot,’ and hanging out with friends. Always stay for those golden sunsets!
Sheinkin Street
Take a stroll back up to Allenby and turn onto Sheinkin Street, one of TLV’s trendiest. Nearby you’ll find laid-back local spots to eat and drink. Eat at the fast-paced Shawarma Sheinkin, where you’ll choose from falafel or meat and then fit as many pickled salads into small styrofoam bowls as you can (they come with the meal).
Dizengoff street
Next, stroll down Dizengoff Street when evening comes, to hunt down happy hour, and then again in the morning to sit out for a coffee and leaf through boutiques and shops. This is a central Street in TLV and you’ll find everything here from cafes to barbers to women’s fashion.
The Old North is a less-touristy neighborhood that’s good for some walking. The streets are quiet and leafy, and architecture is mixed.
How to get around Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv’s bus system is easy to use, and Google Maps, and the local app Moovit , makes things even easier. Pay for buses in cash and keep some change handy, as any ride costs 5.9 Shekels. It’s helpful to save small change for buses and trams!
Tel Aviv’s central bus station (HaTachana Merkazit) is a crazy building that is somewhat of a maze, and buses to Jerusalem and other points of interest are on the top floor. Follow the escalators upward and be prepared to go through security upon entering.
Where to stay in Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv will awe you with its diversity of scenery, architecture, history and ways to have fun. If you can’t fit our entire walking tour into your trip, there’s always next time! You’ll definitely be back. Next, if you’re looking for where to stay, look no further than Abraham Hostel or The Savoy .
Both places offer very different vibes. The Savoy will give you a relaxing stay and a comfortable room. Abraham Hostel is huge. It has 5 floors and a rooftop happy hour. We were there on a weekend and a live performance happened in their common area.
We hope you enjoy Israel!

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation for the Tel Aviv White City guided tour provided to Deputy Director-General of UNESCO, Mr. Engida, on 5 March, 2014. The area we toured is part of a UNESCO world heritage site (declared 2003) and it was important that Mr. Engida experienced a site that is a vibrant and lively city center as well as a World Heritage Site. You’ve given a wonderful tour which left a lasting impression on Mr. Engida and his wife, and for that I remain heartly thankful.” — Dr. Dalit Atrakchi, Secretary-General, Israel National Commission for UNESCO

Jaffa Walking Tour
One of the oldest settlements along the Eastern Mediterranean. Pharaoh Thutmose conquered the town which is mentioned in the Bible. Later, the Crusaders used its port. Starting 1291 Jaffa was ruled for centuries by Mamlukes and Ottomans, until 1917, when the British general Edmund Allenby led the Egyptian Expeditionary Force to conquer the city. In 1950, Jaffa was incorporated into the Tel Aviv municipality.

Neveh Tzedek, Tel Aviv
This is the first Jewish neighborhood built outside of Jaffa and the tour brings us back to the first days of Tel Aviv. By the end of the 1980s, efforts began to renovate and preserve Neve Tzedek’s century-old structures. New establishments were housed in old buildings, most notably the Suzanne Dellal Dance and Theater Center and the Nachum Gutman Museum, located in the artist’s home. This gentrification led to Neveh Tzedek’s rebirth as a fashionable and popular upmarket neighborhood. Its main streets are lined once again with artists’ studios, including the ceramics studio of Samy D., alongside trendy cafés and bars, boutique hotels and shops selling hand-made goods to wealthy Israelis and tourists.
Sarona, Tel Aviv, Guided Tour
Sarona is a newly renovated complex in the heart of Tel Aviv, originally a German Templar Colony, the site sits at the heart of what is a new central business district of the city. The German Sarona was established over 140 years ago by German Templars, Christians who headed to the Holy Land and created a ‘colony’ similar to those elsewhere across Israel characterized by modern achievements like the first electrical oil press in the country etc. In 1930’s a number of the Templars became engaged in activities with the Nazi Party. The British, who controlled the land at the time, declared the German Templars ‘enemy nationals’ following the outbreak of World War 2, and the Templars were exiled to Germany and Australia. The Templar Colony, established before even the first construction of Tel Aviv took place, became in the last years an impressive leisure and commerce destination.
Lev Hair, Tel Aviv
The neighborhood Lev Hair (Heart Of The City) was established during the 1920s and 1930s and demonstrates the Zionist ideals of these days. Landlords realized their dreams in so called “dream buildings” pagodas, Moslem architecture as well as European classicism characterize the “heart of the city”.

Jerusalem Tour
The holy city to three religions has been a place of attraction for thousands of years. It has been destroyed and reconstructed by different empires, with different ideas about what the city should be. As a result, the city of Jerusalem is a confusing mosaic of religious shrines, historic sites and cultural monuments. Our unique tour to the Old City of Jerusalem takes us to the famous and well known sites of Jerusalem, as well as to hidden gems.
Acco Guided Tour
Akko, Acre (World Heritage Site). Akko has been known since biblical times. In 1104 it fell into Crusaders hands and became the economic center of the Crusader Kingdom in the Holy Land for the next 200 years. The impressive fortresses the Crusaders erected are evidence of a notable era — today the Crusader city lies under the present old town, which was built in the 18th century.
Massada Day Trip & Tour
Massada (World Heritage Site). The uniqueness of Massada is due to discoveries from the time of King Herod. He ruled the land 2000 years ago. Herod had many enemies; he decided to build a fortress for himself and his family on Massada—an isolated location in the Judean Desert. For this purpose he built casemate walls around the entire fortress, two castles, food warehouses, a water collection pool, baths etc. On Massada the drama during the Great Jewish Revolt against the Romans took place.
