  • 2 landen, 8 regio’s
  • Acht bergetappes
  • Acht sprintetappes
  • Vier overgangsetappes

De wielergekke regio Baskenland is namelijk the place to be voor de eerste Touretappes.

Geographically, you can’t get much further in western Europe from Nice’s Promenade des Anglais than the Roman Empire-era lighthouse in the northwesterly Spanish city of A Coruña. But for Jonas Vingegaard , the path towards a possible third Tour de France victory on the French Riviera next July will start there on Thursday for the O Gran Camiño, in the shadow of the 2,000-year-old guardian of the rugged Galician coastline.

Stage 1’s opening time trial of this year’s O Gran Camiño race will finish at the foot of the ‘Tower of Hercules’, as A Coruña’s lighthouse, the oldest still-functioning model in the world, is known. Vingegaard could hardly find himself thrown under a sharper spotlight, either, given the 12-kilometre individual race against the clock not only marks his debut in the 2024 season, but is also the first point when his currently unbeaten track record in O Gran Camiño could be challenged.

Victorious in all three stages - a fourth was suspended because of poor weather -  and, naturally, the overall in the 2023 Gran Camiño, all of which take place in the north-westerly region of Galicia, Vingegaard could not have set the bar higher than last year.

But his task of defending his resounding first victory of 2023 will be rendered even harder by a beefed-up opposition in 2024, featuring headline acts of the calibre of Egan Bernal and Carlos Rodríguez (Ineos Grenadiers), Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost) and David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ). The shadow cast by the results from the Tower of Hercules time trial and the three very hilly stages through Galicia that follow, then, will likely be a very long one.

Following the opening 12-kilometre time trial, running almost entirely along A Coruña’s seafront, and with a small climb mid-way through to decide the first mountains classification leader, there is an abrupt switch of terrain to hillier inland roads on stage 2.

With over 3,000 metres of climbing, stage 2 takes O Gran Camiño deep inland to the province of Lugo. The double ascent of the category 2 Alto de San Pedro de Lincora, the second time around peaking out just a handful of kilometres away from the finish in Chantada, could make this another major GC day.

Stage 3, while also very hilly, has most of its climbing difficulties early on. Only the third category climb of Alto de Couso, around 15 kilometres to go, will likely prevent the fastmen from having their turn to shine in the finish at Castelo de Ribadavia.

Stage 4 is a very different story, with everything to play for, including the race overall, in the last 100 kilometres. Running entirely through the mountains of south-west Galicia, the category 2 of Alto de San Cosme acts as an appetizer for the double ascent of the cat 1 climb of Monte Aloia. Never dropping below 9.5% in the final three kilometres, four ramps of between 18% and 20% should provide a blast-off point for what is set to be one of the toughest early season events in Europe this spring.

Often used in the now-defunct Vuelta a Galicia, the predecessor of O Gran Camiño, Monte Aloia in the Tui National Park was once the scene of victories for riders of the calibre of 1990s Italian star Claudio Chiappucci, Swiss all-rounder Fabian Jeker and Spanish Tour de France stage winner Marcos Serrano. It is also much harder than the Camiño summit finishes of last year of Rubia and A Guarda, both only half as long and, unlike the Monte Aloia, only tackled once.

The other important changes in this year’s route are the position and length of Camiño’s individual time trial, moving from the last day to the first, and being cut from 18 kilometres in 2023 to 12 kilometres in 2024. This almost gives the time trial the feel of a long prologue more than a defining element in the course, which will now almost certainly be decided on the last ascent of the Monte Aloia.

However, the biggest question mark on how O Gran Camiño will play out this year is not to do with any switches in terrain or rivals, but the weather. The vicious snowstorms which battered the peloton on the opening stage to force its suspension, are not current forecast to return. But Galician weather is famously unpredictable and this February organisers are crossing their fingers that current predictions of showers and sunny intervals throughout this week in north-west Spain hold true through til the summit of Aloia on Sunday afternoon.

A deeper field

With no disrespect intended to the peloton of the 2023 O Gran Camiño, Vingegaard will face a much more powerful set of rivals than last February. Starting from the opening time trial, he will face current British National TT Champion and 2023 World TT bronze medallist Josh Tarling (Ineos Grenadiers). Given how he performed last year in the Tour’s Alpine time trial test, Vingegaard’s ability against the clock can hardly be called into question. But on a much more straightforward course like A Coruña, there is every chance that Tarling could give Vingegaard a run for his money.

Keep an eye open for Movistar’s Will Barta, too, who once came within a whisker of a time trial victory in Galicia back in the 2020 Vuelta and clearly in good form after his early season win at the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana.

While neither Tarling nor Barta are expected to figure  in the GC battle that follows, one notable absence from potential overall contendership is Nairo Quintana (Movistar), missing from the provisional start list because of COVID.

On the plus side, Ineos Grenadiers have brought an impressively powerful lineup for Galicia - riders like Ethan Hayter, Carlos Rodriguez, Michal Kwiatkowski and Omar Fraile are all tried and tested at fighting for week-long stage races, while Egan Bernal showed steadily rising form on much longer climbs in the Tour Colombia.

Groupama-FDJ will likely be looking at Mount Aloia as their key test, where established leader David Gaudu, fourth in the 2022 Tour de France, and their new climbing talent Lenny Martinez could work together in a joint GC bid.

As for EF Education-EasyPost, Carapaz’ victory on the Alto de Vino in the Tour Colombia sharply raises his status amongst the GC contenders, but as with Ineos, the American squad have multiple options on the table in the shape of Rigoberto Urán, Hugh Carthy and Neilson Powless, and placings in the opening TT may well be needed to help establish an internal GC hierarchy. Yet another interesting rider in the EF lineup is Briton Lukas Nerurkar, who also rode very well in last year’s O Gran Camiño when with Trinity Racing.

But the main focus, at least initially, will logically be on Vingegaard and Visma-Lease A Bike. The Dutch team’s inclusion of new signings like Belgian GC talent Cian Uijtdebroeks, currently bound for the Giro after a last-minute offseason transfer from Bora-Hansgrohe, and stage racing specialist Ben Tulett, along with other more established heavyweights like former Giro podium finisher Wilco Kelderman, means Vingegaard can count on some solid climbing support. But it is how the Dane performs himself that will come under the closest scrutiny this week in Galicia.

PGA Tour returning to calendar-year season in 2024, per reports: Winners and losers of the schedule

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - NOVEMBER 05: Detailed view of The PGA TOUR flag during the second round of the Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying Tournament at Landings Club-Marshwood Course on November 6, 2022 in Savannah, Georgia. (Photo by Andrew Wevers/PGA TOUR)

The PGA Tour schedule will see many changes in 2024, including a return to a calendar-year season and an increase in no-cut events, according to Golfweek . Here’s what you need to know:

  • The tour will return to a calendar-year season for the first time in a decade after it transitioned to a wraparound schedule in 2013 that started a new season each fall, per Golfweek.
  • The 2024 calendar will reportedly feature 39 regular-season events and eight events in the post-playoff fall series.
  • The Players Championship, the Genesis Invitational, the Memorial Tournament and the Arnold Palmer Invitational will reportedly be the only designated tour events to feature a 36-hole cut.

Notable tournament dates and changes

The season will open with the Sentry Tournament of Champions on Jan. 4, 2024, and finish at the Tour Championship on Sept. 1.

The Memorial Tournament will be held one week before the U.S. Open (June 13-16) instead of the typical two weeks before the major. Additionally, the Wyndham Championship and the FedEx Cup Playoffs will each be pushed back by one week because of the Paris Olympics, reports Golfweek.

The tour will reportedly have no halfway cuts at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the RBC Heritage, the Wells Fargo Championship and the Travelers Championship in 2024.

Who wins in this schedule?

The clear winner is AT&T, which sponsored two non-designated events in 2023 but ended its deal with the Byron Nelson. Now it has one event, but Pebble Beach will be a designated event in 2024. That makes total sense — Pebble is one of the premier golf courses in the United States, and for it to have a field strength the same as the John Deere Classic (per DataGolf.com’s measure) made absolutely zero sense. Now it’ll have the best players, and one of the PGA Tour ’s top sponsors is no doubt happier.

Keep that last part in mind with all of this — the tour asked sponsors for more and more when it was seeking to increase purses and fight off the LIV threat, but it cannot make everyone happy. The tour is going to have to move around who gets designated events, in order to keep sponsors in the boat. — Kellenberger

Who loses in this schedule?

The WM Phoenix Open loses its designated event status, which stinks. But with its stadium hole and unique scheduling (Super Bowl weekend, with the final round leading up to kickoff), it may be the rare non-major that has enough else going for it to lose some field strength. We’ll see.

Moving the Memorial Tournament to the week before the U.S. Open is of note, and I’m interested to hear what Jack Nicklaus has to say about that.

But it’s also the first of three “must-play” events in a row (Travelers Championship is the week after the U.S. Open at Pinehurst, and also designated). What that stretch does is squeeze out the events before and after it, the Canadian Open and Rocket Mortgage Classic. They’ll have a harder time attracting top names that are not there out of sponsor obligations. — Kellenberger

Taylor Swift is about to go back on tour: Here's what to expect on the Eras Tour in Paris

rittenschema tour 2023

After a two-month break, Taylor Swift is revitalizing her titanic Eras Tour in Paris, and fans believe there are changes coming to the show.

If you are wondering where she's playing, if there will be changes and how to score tickets, here's everything we know.

And if you're new to the Eras Tour party, you can get caught up on the first 83 shows here .

When does the Eras Tour start again?

Swift kicks off the European leg of her tour on Thursday, May 9, in Paris. She will perform Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, as well, in the City of Light.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

What are Taylor Swift's tour dates in Europe?

There are 69 shows left in the Eras Tour: 51 in Europe, nine in America and nine in Canada.

The European leg stretches from May all the way through a five-night stand at Wembley Stadium in London in mid-August.

See a complete list of international dates here .

After she wraps up in Europe, Swift will stop in Miami, New Orleans and Indianapolis before wrapping up in Canada.

See the remaining U.S. dates here .

What is the Eras Tour set list?

The Eras Tour has featured a massive 45-song set list you can check out here . But speculation is swirling it won't look the same when Swift takes the stage in Paris.

Will Taylor Swift add 'The Tortured Poets Department' to her set list?

The tortured poet has been on hiatus keeping her stamina up by releasing a double album of 31 tracks. The 2-hours-and-2-minutes project broke a number of Billboard records as the superstar did zero press to promote it. Fans flocked to stores and streaming services to listen to all the songs from "Fortnight" to "The Manuscript."

Although the singer has not confirmed whether her 11th era album will be added to her Eras Tour set list, she did post a YouTube shorts video with two scenes that sent Easter egg decoders into a frenzy. In one of the shots, the singer is next to a railing where a "TTPD" logo appears to be (at 0:11). In the succeeding shot, her back-up dancers perform holding canes and wearing top hats, something they have not worn previously.

Swift's dancers and bandmates posted to their Instagram stories as they left for France last week. The singer did not appear at two media events with her boyfriend Travis Kelce: the Kentucky Derby and a Formula 1 race in Miami , Florida. Patrick Mahomes, Kelce's friend and Kansas City's quarterback, attended the car racing spectacular with his wife, Brittany.

Can I still get Eras Tour tickets?

Swift's show is completely sold out in Europe and North America. There are resale sites with tickets, but be wary of scams. The best way to avoid getting swindled is continuously checking links on Swift's website . There are some for resale on the sites verified by her camp.

Singapore was a hotbed for fans who traveled thousands of miles only to get turned away at the venue. In Tokyo and Australia, last-minute ticket drops happened a few days — without announcement — ahead of the shows.

Miami, New Orleans and Indianapolis — the three U.S. cities Swift is visiting in the fall — have some of the heftiest price tags with Canada closely behind. In may be cheaper to travel to Warsaw, Poland, or Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Here's a list of cities with the cheapest resale tickets, according to travel website  Islands.com .

10. Vienna, Austria — total average cost: $1,089, safety score: 69.72

9. Cardiff, U.K. — total average cost: $1,061, safety score: 61.83

8. Lyon, France — total average cost: $1,047, safety score: 44.3

7. Lisbon, Portugal — total average cost: $1,028, safety score: 70.15

6. Munich, Germany — total average cost: $1,000, safety score: 78.88

5. Paris, France — total average cost: $971, safety score: 41.83

4. Stockholm, Sweden — total average cost: $935, safety score: 53.86

3. Hamburg, Germany — total average cost: $903, safety score: 57.51

2. Gelsenkirchen, Germany — total average cost: $749, safety score: 51.33

1. Warsaw, Poland — total average cost: $712, safety score: 72.98

Who are the opening acts?

Paramore launched the Eras Tour in Glendale, Arizona, in March 2023, so it's fitting the American rock band is opening the tour's second year. The act will open for Swift for 51 shows across Europe . The band was dubbed the 2024 Record Store Day global ambassador and surprised fans in Nashville the weekend following the release of "The Tortured Poets Department."

When the tour comes back to North America in October , Swift's opening act will be Gracie Abrams.

Where can I watch if I don't have tickets?

The Eras Tour is one of the first tours that has been followed, globally, by thousands of fans on digital platforms. Fans dedicate part of their concert experience to livestreaming as Swift performs. A few Swifties have learned how to host their own shows over social media including Tess Bohne , known as the livestream queen. Bohne goes live for (almost) every show pulling streams from Instagram and TikTok. When a livestream goes down, she fills the time with banter.

On YouTube, user @TaylorSwiftHockeyBro also livestreams the three-hour show, and on Twitch, @folkleric , is a host fans follow.

There is also an app, Swift Alert , that notifies fans who only want to watch certain eras like the acoustic, surprise set. The app sends out push alerts if there are any major announcements.

What secret songs are left?

For the past 83 shows, Swift has played an acoustic set she customizes at each stop with a guitar and piano performance. In 2024, the Eras Tour star added mashups of her songs for each stop. Here are the songs she has yet to perform:

  • "Taylor Swift" (debut album): "Mary's Song" and "A Perfectly Good Heart"
  • "Fearless": "The Way I Loved You," "Change," "Superstar," "We Were Happy," "That's When," "Don't You" and "Bye Bye Baby"
  • "Red": "Girl At Home," "Ronan," "Forever Winter" and "Run"
  • "1989": "Sweeter Than Fiction"
  • "Reputation": "I Did Something Bad"
  • "Lover": "London Boy," "Soon You'll Get Better" and "It's Nice to Have a Friend"
  • "Folklore": "Hoax"
  • "Evermore": "Happiness" and "Closure"
  • "Midnights": "Paris" and "Glitch"
  • "The Tortured Poets Department": all 31 tracks

Will Taylor Swift perform in 2025?

There have been many rumors that Swift will continue her show in 2025, but they are only rumors. Nothing has been announced for next year, and as of now, the tour will end in Vancouver, British Columbia, on Dec. 8.

Mark Cavendish Abandons 2023 Tour de France on Stage 8

The Manx Missile will end his career tied with Eddy Merckx for the all-time Tour de France stage wins record.

110th tour de france 2023 stage 2

Mark Cavendish abandoned the 2023 Tour de France after a Stage 8 crash, prematurely ending his final Tour. Cavendish is tied with Eddy Merckx at 34 Tour de France stage wins—the most in history.

Cavendish was involved in a crash in the peloton and was lying on the ground, holding his clavicle. He was unable to finish the stage and officially made the decision to withdraw.

His abandonment comes one day after Cavendish nearly won a Stage 7 sprint, but an apparent mechanical issue cost him a shot at sole possession of the record.

Cavendish, now 38, broke into professional cycling in 2005. A few years later, he won his first Tour de France stage on Stage 5. He added three more stage victories during that 2008 Tour, establishing himself as the premiere sprinter in the world. In 2011, he won both the green jersey points competition at the Tour de France and the rainbow jersey as world champion.

Cav won TdF stages in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2021. In 2021, Cavendish enjoyed a comeback season, winning three stages to tie with Merckx for the all-time record.

In 2022, Cavendish was left off the Deceuninck–Quick-Step team for the Tour de France in a controversial decision by team manager Patrick Lefevere, so he didn’t get his shot to break Merckx’ record. He left the Quick-Step squad at the end of last year, and after months of contract speculation, he signed with Astana Qazaqstan for the 2023 season.

Travis Kelce Cheers on Taylor Swift at Her Eras Tour Show in Paris With Bradley Cooper and Gigi Hadid

Travis kelce has rejoined taylor swift on her eras tour, this time in paris, where he was joined by mutual friends bradley cooper and gigi hadid..

Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, jetting straight to Paris for Taylor Swift .

Travis Kelce was spotted cheering on his girlfriend at her fourth Eras tour show at La Défense Arena in the French capital May 12. He watched from a box seat with  Bradley Cooper and Gigi Hadid , as seen in videos posted on social media.

In April, the four had a double date in Carmel-by-the-Sea, Calif . during Taylor's two-month hiatus from her tour , which began more than a year ago and months before the Grammy winner and Kansas City Chiefs star tight end began their romance.

This marked the fifth time Travis has been spotted at one of Taylor's concerts since he attended his first in November, in Argentina . He inspired her to change the lyrics of her song "Karma," which now pays tribute to him .

This also marks the first Eras tour show he's been to since the singer recently changed her setlist to include songs from her new Tortured Poets Department alum, including "So High School," which many fans believe is about the NFL star .

During her new performance of the track, she appears to pay tribute to her boyfriend by "swag surfing"  with her back-up singers, months after she performed the move with his mom   Donna Kelce at a Chiefs game—one of many she has attended.

At her latest show in Paris, Taylor appeared to give Travis another shoutout by debuting a new costume in the Chiefs' colors, red and gold.

Travis appeared at Taylor's latest concert soon after beginning to film Ryan Murphy 's new horror series  Grotesquerie , which marks the athlete's major acting debut. His costar Niecy Nash  shared a video of him receiving a dance lesson from her and others working on the production.

Look back at Travis and Taylor's road to romance...

July 2023: So, Make the Friendship Bracelets

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce 's love story began in July 2023, when the singer's Eras Tour made a stop at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.

As a huge Swiftie, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end caught the show with hopes of giving Taylor a friendship bracelet with his number on it . However, he failed to complete the pass due to her pre-show rituals.

"I was disappointed that she doesn't talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings," Travis shared on the July 26 episode of his  New Heights podcast. "So, I was a little butt-hurt I didn't get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her."

Summer 2023: This Is Him Trying

After publicly recounting his fumble—a move Taylor would later describe as "metal as hell" —Travis decided to shoot his shot and invite the Grammy winner to watch the Chiefs play at Arrowhead Stadium.

"I threw it out there, I threw the ball in her court," he shared on The Pat McAfee Show . "I told her, you know, 'I've seen you rock the stage in Arrowhead, you might have to come see me rock the stage in Arrowhead and see which one's a little more lit.' So, we'll see what happens in the near future."

August 2023: Enchanted to Meet You

Travis was rocking a mustache—which he debuted in August during training camp—when he was first introduced to Taylor .

As he later noted of the era, "That 'stache and the 87 jersey was pretty iconic there for a little bit, and I had it when I met Taylor for the first time."

September 2023: Sparks Fly

By early September, a source close to the situation told E! News that Travis and Taylor were " texting and talking here and there ."

"It's been very low-key," the insider explained, "as he's been in season."

September 2023: Cheer Captain

Accepting Travis' invite, Taylor joined the athlete's mom Donna Kelce at Arrowhead Stadium to watch him and the Chiefs take on the Chicago Bears. After the game, Taylor and Travis were seen packing PDA at a local bar .

Though folklore had it that it was the couple's first in-person meeting, the "Karma" singer later clarified the two had spent a "significant amount of time" getting to know each other beforehand.

As Taylor noted, "We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date."

October 2023: Team Up

As an indication that the relationship was heating up, Taylor brought her squad —including friends Blake Lively , Ryan Reynolds , Sophie Turner , Hugh Jackman , Sabrina Carpenter and Antoni Porowski —to watch the Chiefs play against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

October 2023: It's Nice to Have a Friend

Another sign that Travis could be The 1 ? Taylor started bonding with Brittany Mahomes —the wife of Travis' BFF and teammate Patrick Mahomes —in and outside of NFL games .

October 2023: Welcome to New York

The couple took their romance to TV, making a surprise appearance on the Oct. 14 episode of Saturday Night Live . Their Big Apple takeover also included the after-party for the NBC sketch show and a date night at the Waverly Inn .

November 2023: Karma Is Her Boyfriend

During a bye week, Travis traveled down to Argentina to catch the South American leg of Taylor's Eras Tour. Not only did the NFL star bond with Taylor's dad , Scott Swift , at the Nov. 11 show in Buenos Aires, but he also got a special shoutout from the stage.

" Karma is that guy on the Chiefs ," Taylor sang, "coming straight home to me."

After the show, the Midnights  artist was seen running up to Travis backstage and greeting him with a passionate kiss .

December 2024: Speak Now

Taylor addressed the lavender craze surrounding her appearances at Travis' games.

"I'm going to see him do what he loves, we're showing up for each other, other people are there and we don't care," she told Time . "The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you're seeing someone."

December 2023: You, Who Charmed Her Dad

The music superstar turned Travis' Dec. 17 game into a family affair, bringing her dad to cheer on her man .

January 2024: All the Midnights

Taylor and Travis spent their first New Year's Eve together, sharing a romantic kiss when the clock struck midnight on Jan. 1.

January 2024: Chosen Family

Continuing to bond with Travis' family, Taylor hung out with his brother Jason Kelce and sister-in-law Kylie Kelce at the Chiefs' game against the Buffalo Bills.

January 2024: Saved by the Perfect Kiss

Taylor joined Travis on the football field when the Chiefs won the AFC Championship , a victory that cemented the team's spot in the 2024 Super Bowl . The couple shared a celebratory kiss before exchanging the L-word .

"Tay, I'm gonna enjoy with the guys," he told her. "I love you—so much it's not funny."

February 2024: Super Bowl Champs

The pair locked lips on the field after Travis led the Kansas City Chiefs to victory on Feb. 11, 2024 in Las Vegas.

February 2024: TikTok Official

Taylor posted footage of Travis on social media for the first time Feb. 12, poking fun at how she took her parents clubbing with the athlete after the Super Bowl.

2024 PGA Championship: Who is the favorite to win at Valhalla?

Scottie Scheffler is the favorite to win this week's PGA Championship.

Andrew Redington/Getty Images

The 2024 PGA Championship is here, with the best-of-the-best in men’s golf ready to fight for the Wanamaker tophy starting Thursday. But who is the favorite to win the PGA Championship this week? Find out below.

2024 PGA Championship favorite

The pre-tournament favorite to win this week’s PGA is the player who has been the favorite all season: World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler .

Scheffler heads to Valhalla with +450 odds-to-win, far shorter odds than the man who won the Wells Fargo on Sunday, World No. 2 Rory McIlroy (+800 odds-to-win).

Ludvig Aberg

2024 PGA Championship picks to win: Here’s who we are betting on at Valhalla

Scheffler’s odds are what they are for a reason. He has dominated the PGA Tour in 2024. In 10 starts, Scheffler was four wins, a runner-up and nine top-10 finishes. His only finish outside the top 10 was a T17 at the American Express in January. His last five finishes? An other-worldly 1-1-T2-1-1.

And his wins haven’t only come at regular Tour events. Scheffler won his second Masters title last month, and he won the Players Championship before that. From many people’s perspectives, it’s truly Scheffler’s tournament to lose.

And until Sunday, we weren’t even sure if Scheffler would play the PGA Championship. Dating back to Masters, Scheffler had said that if his pregnant wife were to go into labor, he would withdraw from whatever event he was playing to be there for the birth of their first child.

The waiting game continued into last week’s Wells Fargo Championship, a Signature Event, which Scheffler skipped as the baby’s due date neared. According to an unconfirmed report from Bob Harig, Scheffler and his wife Meredith welcomed their baby over the weekend, and as a result, Scheffler will indeed play at Valhalla.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

rittenschema tour 2023

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

rittenschema tour 2023

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

rittenschema tour 2023

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

rittenschema tour 2023

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

rittenschema tour 2023

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

rittenschema tour 2023

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

rittenschema tour 2023

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.

Jimmy Dunne resigns from PGA Tour policy board nearly one year after orchestrating deal with LIV Golf backers

Dunne had been a member of the pga tour policy board since the start of 2023.

jimmy-dunne-congressional-hearing-g.jpg

The man who set up the deal between the PGA Tour and the Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund -- the financial backers of LIV Golf -- will not be around to potentially see it through. Jimmy Dunne on Monday resigned from his post on the PGA Tour policy board stating that the no longer sees how he can be useful to the body.

Dunne explained his abrupt resignation in a letter.

"When I arrived on the Board in January 2023, everybody involved with the game was concerned about the fundamental threat of LIV Golf. They were successfully luring away some of our top players, including several major champions. It was clear that the fracture would greatly damage our game and the Tour. On top of that, the Tour was engaged in burdensome litigation that was expensive, unwelcome, and uncertain. "As directed by Commissioner [Jay] Monahan, I engaged LIV's majority owner, the Public Investment Fund, to see if we could end the lawsuits and reunify the game. Importantly, we were able to come to an agreement in which the lawsuits were dismissed with prejudice and a path was created for the Tour to remain in control of professional golf. Since there was no exclusivity clause, the players had a full range of options to seek outside investors. That resulted in a multi-billion-dollar commitment from the Strategic Sports Group. I believe that history will look favorably on this outcome and the very real opportunities now afforded the Tour."

Dunne further notes that he has not negotiated with the PIF since June 2023, and since players now outnumber others on the board, he felt like his role moving forward was "utterly superfluous" given "no meaningful progress has been made towards a transaction with the PIF."

Dunne's resignation comes roughly one year after the PGA Tour and the PIF announced a framework agreement to merge commercial operations under a new for-profit entity, which has since been dubbed PGA Tour Enterprises. The agreement dropped expensive litigation between the two parties and made it so the discovery process could be avoided.

Beyond making first contact with PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan last April, Dunne testified in front of Congress alongside PGA Tour chief operating officer Ron Price to detail the discussions.

PGA Tour Enterprises has been busy accepting a $3 billion infusion from its now-primary investor, Strategic Sports Group. However, conversations with the PIF about bringing the PGA Tour and LIV Golf under one umbrella have stalled. PGA Tour chief competitions officer Tyler Dennis told a small group of media last week at the Wells Fargo Championship that he had "no material updates" on the state of negotiations.

"Unifying professional golf is paramount to restoring fan interest and repairing wounds left from a fractured game," Dunne concluded. "I have tried my best to move all minds in that direction."

Dunne was not a member of the transaction subcommittee, which is tasked with negotiating with the PIF. Rory McIlroy announced after his first round last week that he would have a role on this committee after being boxed out of a potential return to the PGA Tour policy board.

It was expected that McIlroy would return to the post from which he resigned last fall as Webb Simps hoped Rory would take his place. A small subset of board members -- reportedly consisting of the likes of Patrick Cantlay and Jordan Spieth (who took McIlroy's vacant seat) -- was uncomfortable with the 35-year-old's potential return.

Taylor Swift named Time magazine’s person of the year

rittenschema tour 2023

Looks like Taylor Swift is now in her “person of the year” era.

Time magazine announced Swift as 2023’s person of the year on Wednesday, granting her the distinction over a shortlist of candidates including Barbie, King Charles III and Vladimir Putin. Last year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky won the honor.

“Taylor Swift found a way to transcend borders and be a source of light,” wrote Time’s editor in chief, Sam Jacobs. “Swift is the rare person who is both the writer and hero of her own story.”

The Style section

The award caps what’s been a commercially successful year for Swift, who dominated the concert scene with “The Eras Tour” and in October released a concert film based on the tour . The tour turned tragic in mid-November, when sweltering temperatures at a show in Brazil led to hundreds of reported medical incidents and the death of a fan.

Swift also dominated the Billboard charts with songs from her 2022 album “Midnights” and from previous albums. Her song “Cruel Summer” from the 2019 album “Lover” topped the Billboard Hot 100 four years after it was released. Swift also released rerecorded versions of her albums “Speak Now” and “1989” with additional tracks.

She also split from longtime partner Joe Alwyn in the spring and faced backlash from fans over a rumored relationship with controversial singer Matt Healy .

Time’s cover story — based on an interview with Swift — is packed with nuggets about Swift’s life from the past year, including details of how she started dating Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs. Swift also spilled some tea about her upcoming rerecording of the 2017 “Reputation” album, as well as her mind-set during a public feud with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian in the mid-2010s.

Here are highlights from The Post’s coverage of Taylor Swift throughout the year, with links to the stories within each excerpt:

For Beyoncé and Taylor Swift, the big screen feels like a tight fit

“With the respective box office successes of ‘Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé’ and ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,’ two of civilization’s most famous voices have made the migration from the stadium to the big screen appear pretty much effortless, as if the line between a pop star and a movie star were simply something to be stepped over. As for the rest of us strugglers whose money trees resemble dead houseplants, the pros and cons feel tightly intertwined. …”

What Taylor Swift superfans want you to understand

“In a sunlit bedroom of a cozy stone house nestled among the fall foliage of Georgia’s Chattahoochee River, Molly Swindall sits in a closet. It’s where the 29-year-old flight attendant often retreats when she’s back in her childhood home, admiring and tending to a cramped and overflowing collection of memorabilia that began being assembled in 2006 — the same year she discovered a budding singer-songwriter named Taylor Swift. …”

The Economy (Taylor’s Version)

“Swift’s record-shattering Eras Tour is set to be the most lucrative concert run in American history. But the massive production not only provided a jolt of money to sold-out stadiums — it also infused the American economy with a trickle-down flow of cash. …”

They couldn’t get Taylor Swift tickets. So they got jobs at the venues.

“As the Eras Tour winds down in the United States (eight California shows remain before Swift, 33, kicks off the international dates in late August), one small but elite group has emerged triumphant: fans who couldn’t procure or afford tickets, so they opted to temporarily work or volunteer at the stadiums — and watch the shows free. …”

Sharp. Witty. Thoughtful. Sign up for the Style Memo newsletter.

Surprised by the Eras Tour’s dominance? You weren’t paying attention.

“Ever since the first concert in March in Glendale, Ariz., the Swifties have been studying every minute of the tour, watching livestreams on TikTok and combing through social media posts. It’s a level of devotion that comes from nearly two decades of Swift’s fan base following her every move, because she makes them feel like they really know her — and more importantly, that she really knows them. Everything Swift has built, going from a teen country songwriting prodigy to one of the biggest pop stars in history at age 33, has led to this 3½-hour celebration of her ‘Eras’ each night . And on the last show of this year’s American leg of the tour, the fans were ready. …”

The bonding experience of watching a Taylor Swift concert from a parking lot

“The very difficult odds of scoring tickets to Swift’s 52-date stadium tour are no joke — which is what brought [Daniela] Mello and her fiance to an area outside the gates of Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday night, where they sat on concrete parking barriers near a sign for Lot K. Around them, thousands more Swift fans swarmed parking lots and closed streets by the stadium, screaming and dancing and singing and sometimes crying along to Swift’s vocals that rang out from the enormous speakers inside the venue. If they couldn’t see the pop megastar, they were certainly going to hear her. …”

After woman’s death at Taylor Swift concert, a search for accountability

“Amid the chaos, an early-entry VIP ticket holder named Ana Clara Benevides Machado tried to enjoy herself. A friend remembered how the 23-year-old jumped, sang and cried when she saw Swift — then fainted in the middle of ‘Cruel Summer,’ and died of cardiorespiratory arrest at a hospital . She was the only reported death from the show, but firefighters said more than 1,000 others had passed out by the end of the night.

A week later, the international Eras Tour appears to be back on track. Swift has performed more shows in Brazil, including two in the same stadium — even as the country has sought accountability in the wake of the Nov. 17 show, and the Brazilian company that organized the show, Time4Fun, is the subject of government and police investigations. …”

Movie review: Love Taylor Swift or not, ‘The Eras Tour’ is astonishing

“Filmed with multiple cameras during Swift’s engagement at SoFi Stadium outside Los Angeles, this impressively immersive chronicle has every technological gizmo at its disposal but wisely keeps things simple. After a brief drone shot of the immense arena, director Sam Wrench zooms down to the stage, where dancers appear waving giant, parachute-like wings — a dazzling, lyrical segue into Swift’s triumphant arrival in a crystal-encrusted bodysuit and matching Louboutin boots. …”

Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce and a monoculture yearning for romance

“It’s 2023, so this budding romance story has consumed every corner of the internet, sports media, non-sports media, sports betting apps, cable-news segments, memes and text messages from dads to daughters asking, ‘Have you seen this?’ During the Sept. 24 game, Fox announcers gleefully dubbed the Swift-Kelce pairing as ‘the romance that we all need. It feels like it’s right for America.’ …”

A review of ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ (Critic’s Version)

“ In the spirit of Taylor Swift rerecording her early discography, I’ve resurrected my take on ‘ 1989, ’ originally published in 2014, with updates in italics.

Haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, so here goes we go again.

Taylor Swift’s ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version) ’ — an antiseptic pop album scrubbed of any greasy country music fingerprints — qualifies as is a re-creation of a rare and exquisite dud that ate the entire planet back in 2014 . When it’s triumphant, it’s like that Super Bowl Sunday when your team is up 42 points at the half. (Go Chiefs!) When it’s bland, it’s like noshing on empty calories in a dream you won’t remember. Sometimes, somehow, it’s both. …”

The unprecedented weirdness of Taylor Swift

“Taylor Swift is weird. If you think she’s the greatest pop singer to ever exist, that means she’s weird. If you think she’s too boring to be this preposterously famous, that also means she’s weird. Does the intimacy of her world-beating songcraft make you feel as if she has been singing about your life this entire time? Weird. Or maybe you feel profoundly alienated by her fandom-fluffed aura of total infallibility. Yeah, because it’s weird. She’s clearly some kind of genius, and she’s obviously a brighter brand of superstar than most who came before, but it’s Swift’s weirdness that accommodates all perspectives . It might be her most essential trait, even though her music feels so normal. And that’s weird, too. …”

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour On Track to Become Highest-Grossing Global Tour in History

The 2023 shows earned more than $900 million, Billboard estimates. That total could nearly double next year.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift ’s The Eras Tour is poised to become the highest-grossing global tour of all time, according to Billboard ’s estimates.

While no official numbers have been reported yet, Swift’s tour should pass current record-holder Elton John ’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour with more than $900 million in ticket sales so far.

On Sunday (Nov. 26), Swift played her last scheduled show of the year, wrapping an intense run of 66 concerts in the United States, Mexico and South America. Representatives for The Eras Tour have not yet reported official revenue or attendance figures to Billboard Boxscore or any other trade journal or news entity, but the enormity of The Eras Tour is impossible to ignore, with a total that amounts to a staggering average of nearly $14 million per show.

9 Things Other Artists Can Learn From Taylor Swift’s Blockbuster Eras Tour

Dating back almost 40 years, all Boxscore rankings are based on figures reported to Billboard . Data is reported from a variety of official industry sources, from artist managers and agents to promoters and venue executives. Reporting has always been voluntary, and some artists, venues and promoters opt to withhold data from representation on our charts. It is not uncommon for artists to not report — or to wait until the end of a tour, which is still more than a year away in Swift’s case — though it’s rare that such a well-documented blockbuster tour, in contention for top year-end honors, is not submitted. Swift’s abstention disqualifies her from appearing on year-end Boxscore charts .

Swift kicked off The Eras Tour in Glendale, Ariz., on March 17, playing 53 domestic shows before wrapping at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., outside Los Angeles, on Aug. 9. She hit a total of 20 U.S. cities, and 11 of those venues have provided attendance figures to Billboard . Based on those numbers, as well as estimates based on aggressive scaling at the other nine stadiums, Swift likely sold 3.3 million tickets over 53 shows in the United States, or an average of 63,000 tickets per show.

Sources close to the tour point to an average domestic ticket price of around $252. This is in line with the prices for the summer’s other major concert event, Beyoncé ’s Renaissance World Tour, which maintained a $135 ticket in Europe and a $253 ticket in North America. While ticket prices might dip in certain markets and bloom in others, using that number as an average puts the U.S. leg of The Eras Tour at $838.3 million. That total gross spreads out to $15.8 million per show, a staggering figure that exceeds recent tours by Bad Bunny , Beyoncé, and The Rolling Stones , each of which had giant totals of their own.

That projected $838 million haul is more than enough to make Eras the highest-grossing U.S. and North American tour ever. John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour holds the official Boxscore title, with $567.7 million in the United States and Canada. That total reflects 135 shows over a span of four years, compared to Swift’s 53 shows in less than six months.

Moreover, The Eras Tour’s U.S. gross would situate it as the second-highest grossing tour of all time based on global figures, before even crossing the border. John’s farewell tour remains the official record-holder with $939.1 million.

Since wrapping the Eras Tour’s U.S. leg, Swift played four shows at Mexico City’s Foro Sol (Aug. 24-27) and, more recently, nine South American shows, spread between Buenos Aires in Argentina and Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. Those dates bring her much closer to John’s global record, even based on relatively conservative projections. But as we’ve seen with virtually every worldwide stadium tour in the last two years, the post-pandemic surge in ticket prices hasn’t been as severe outside the United States.

Further, these are Swift’s first shows in these Latin American markets. That means pent-up demand likely drove huge sales, though her base isn’t quite as explosive there as it is in the States.

Taylor Swift's Biggest Scalper for the Eras Tour: Her Fans

Based on estimates considering the high end of grosses and ticket prices for each Latin American venue’s post-pandemic history, The Eras Tour likely earned another $60 million to $75 million and more than 750,000 tickets from those 13 shows.

In all, Billboard estimates that Swift has generated $906.1 million and sold 4.1 million tickets in 2023 across all shows in the United States, Mexico and South America. That would unofficially make The Eras Tour the biggest tour of 2023. And when considering Swift’s total revenue from the tour, it doesn’t even account for merchandise sales, sponsorships, music streaming and sales boosts, or her self-produced and released Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film.

Swift is scheduled to resume The Eras Tour on Feb. 7 with four shows at the Tokyo Dome in Japan. Then, she’ll play seven shows in Australia and six in Singapore. In May, she kicks off a 50-date run in Europe before returning to North America for 18 shows in new markets, including the tour’s first entry into Canada. In all, that’s 85 shows to go, with the possibility of more to come, considering her recent concert additions to runs in London and Vancouver.

These upcoming international legs are already more ambitious than any previous Swift tour. While this year’s 53 U.S. shows are in line with what she did on 2018’s Reputation Stadium Tour and 2015’s The 1989 World Tour, those treks included just six and seven shows in Europe, respectively — a fraction of next year’s slate of 50.

8 Sweetest Moments Between Taylor Swift & Young Swifties on The Eras Tour

If we use the comparison between Beyoncé’s recent European and North American grosses as a north star, in Europe, Swift could be looking at $8.5 million per show, or about $420 million over the entire leg. And even if next year’s North American shows dip from 2023’s record-breakers, the U.S. and Canada shows could add another $240 million to 260 million. Including the 17 shows in Asia and Australia, The Eras Tour is likely headed toward a total gross of $1.6 billion to $1.7 billion by the end of 2024. It will be the first in history to earn more than $1 billion in ticket sales and will set Swift far apart from her competitors. If figures skew toward the higher end of what’s possible, she could double John’s current record gross.

Representatives for Swift did not respond to a request for comment on Billboard ‘s estimates at press time.
