Guided Sightseeing Tour – Choose the Desired Tour Length

Stockholm's archipelago is vast and unique with its nearly 30,000 islands – an archipelago with expansive waters and beautiful nature. The Archipelago Tour is a sightseeing tour for everyone; you can easily choose how much time you have and how much of the archipelago you want to experience. Regardless of the tour length you book, you will see and discover the archipelago - choose between 1,5, 2,5, or 3 hours. Below, under "Map/Karta," you can see the routes of the different tours - red line for 2,5 and 3 hours, and green line for the 1,5-hour tour.

Excursion with a Classic Archipelago Ship

The tours are operated with Strömma Kanalbolaget's classic archipelago ships S/S Stockholm, M/S Östanå I, and M/S Angantyr. The length of the tours varies – choose the length that suits you best!

This is a family business operated by Father and Son who both love and enjoy sailing the Stockholm archipelago and meeting new people

After leaving the financial sector and "24-7" work routines, I now take guests out into the beautiful outer Stockholm archipelago. I have sailed in many places around the world and it has struck me that Sweden and Stockholm have one of the most spectacular sailing areas.  Welcome to join.

Sailing has always been a big part of my life, from sailing camps as a young child to being out sailing the coast of the nordic countries every summer. I have also gained diverse experience and admiration for different countries working as a skipper in the Croatian archipelago.

Why sailing with us.

The archipelago offers the wilderness, few people and the fresh waters of the Baltic Sea. Everything the adventurous cruiser could want is scattered just a few miles off the Swedish coast and that's something we want to share with our guests. There are many choices, we can anchor on a small island or find an archipelago port with a nice restaurant. Come along on a sailing trip you will not forget. Maybe you want to take the opportunity to learn how sailing is done on a larger boat or just sit back and enjoy the ride. We offer you both and make sure you hava a great time through the islands.   

We are licensed skippers with long experience from sailing and know the Stockholm Archipelago very well. We want you to share this experience with us while you get introduced to sailing and the stunning archipelago.

Stockholm Archipelago Sailing Day Tour

• 8-hour sailing experience aboard a modern yacht
• Supervision from a professional yachting crew
• Use of an inflatable life jacket and sailing equipment
• Rain gear (if needed)
• Lunch and drinks
• Coffee and snacks
• Ferry/Transportation to/from Vaxholm Harbour
• Hotel pickup and drop-off
• Västerhamnsplan 32, 185 32 Vaxholm, Sweden Vaxholm Guest harbor (Waxholm gästhamn) Västerhamnsplan 32, 185 32 Vaxholm, Sweden. The boat will be docked at the end of a boardwalk with Stockholm Adventures Flags on. Your captain will also be wearing a yellow fluorescent vest. Parking is very limited in the area and therefore not recommended.

• Confirmation will be received at time of booking
• In case of changeable weather, it is recommended you bring an extra set of clothes
• Bring warm outerwear, a swimsuit, a towel, sensible footwear, sunglasses and sunscreen
• Children must be at least 12 years old to join the tour
• This tour requires a minimum of 2 guests to operate, in the event that number is not reached you will be offered an alternative date or a full refund
• This tour will take place in all weathers unless the captains deems it unsafe to do so
• Most travellers can participate
• Maximum weight 150kg
• This experience requires a minimum number of travellers. If it’s cancelled because the minimum isn’t met, you’ll be offered a different date/experience or a full refund
• This tour/activity will have a maximum of 10 travellers
• For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours in advance of the start date of the experience.

The story about the tour

One of the best ways to explore Stockholm is from the water! On our Stockholm Archipelago Sailing Adventure , we soak up the sun, go for a swim and “take a walk on the wild side” in what is the Swedish, a more rugged equivalent to Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast – the Stockholm archipelago .

Staring out in Stockholm, your day begins with a private transfer to the quaint coastal town of Vaxholm , where your English-speaking skipper awaits your arrival. Checking out from the hustle and bustle of the city, we’ll take the day to holiday like Swedes, sailing through and past many of the 30,000+ islands and skerries that the Stockholm archipelago holds.

As you depart from Vaxholm , enjoy the history of the area as your skipper guides you, not only through the beautiful archipelago setting but also through its history, from the Vikings to a 1700s defence fortress. When you thought the day couldn’t get any better, it’s time for lunch, which is served on board.

Before you know it, your Stockholm Archipelago Sailing Adventure has come to an end. You’ve arrived back in Vaxholm , where your private driver is waiting to take you back to the bustling city centre of Stockholm. Sit back, relax and take in the experience you’ve just had!

How to find the guide Look for our driver holding the OURWAY logo as a sign.

If you have trouble locating the driver or the meeting point, please give us a call a few minutes before the start of the tour. When you call before the tour begins, we have a greater chance of helping you find your way.

Once you arrive in Vaxholm, your driver will drop you off at Söderhamnsplan 1, where you’ll find your sailboat and skipper for the day.

Please note The skipper meets the guests in Vaxholm.

We recommend bringing warm and/or extra clothing, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and comfortable shoes with you on tour.

Our sailings in our fantastic Stockholm Archipelago is tailormade for you. You select if you want to go one day, two days, three days or why not a week? Our boat handles one to six persons plus crew.

Comfort and safety

Our sailing tour takes place on Operah, a Beneteau 50 flagship with all necessary comfort and safety. She is certified for up to 14 persons but we will be maximum 6 + crew. For personal safety she is equipped with life wests and Operah has EPIRB, lifeboat and all modern navigation. For your personal comfort we supply you with sailing gear.

What to expect

The sailing tour will take you in a nice part of the Stockholm archipelago. We sail, or engine if poor wind, towards Vaxholm and beyond islands like Grinda, Gällnö, Karklö, Lådna in the heart of Stockholm archipelago. Depending on the length of the tour.

24 000 islands and counting

We will not visit all the islands, but we will pass hundreds of them and visit a few. In a large safe comfortable sailboat together with crew that knows sailing, boats and the archipelago.

Explore one unique archipelago

The Stockholm archipelago is a unique place. 24 000 islands, from large islands like Ljusterö, Värmdö, Södertörn (Sweden's thirdest largest island!) to a numerous small islets hardly visible. In fact, there are also a lot of reefs just beneath the water level so the navigation can be tricky. The water is brackish with about one percent salt. The water is clean, no problem to take a bath. And if the weather is fine, we will. We serve you coffee, tea, water with snacks and fruit during the day(s) and we will have lunch on board and select if you like dinner onboard or at any of the cosy restaurants we have in the Stockholm archipelago.

The best time to sail in Stockholm Archipelago

If you want to experience the beauty of Stockholm Archipelago in its full glory, then May and June are probably your best bet. The summer months are also popular with tourists, so try visiting during spring to avoid crowds. There isn’t plenty of sunshine in early spring (April) and late autumn (October), but it’s also lovely and quiet.

In July and August, you will have trouble finding any room on land or sea: this is when most Swedes and tourists go on holiday. If you don’t mind crowds, these months offer excellent conditions for sailing in the archipelago.

The Swedish winter (December-February) can be freezing, but that doesn’t mean you should not visit! There is a lot of snow during this time of year. You can find boats for hire all along the coast or even at smaller marinas within larger towns such as Norrtälje or Nynäshamn. Enjoy a shorter tour that lets you try your hand at sailing with time to experience the real archipelago of islets and rocks, yet still have time for other activities, such as kayaking or getting a delicious meal in dalarö..

We set sail either in the morning or after lunch and are immediately submerged into Stockholms rich archipelago of islands and islets. Dalarö, our point of departure, is very much a part of this unique landscape. During the four hour tour, we will take time to enjoy a snack and a cup of steaming hot coffee and if we’re lucky we might spot a seal or a white-tailed sea eagle!

Your skipper will have you back in time for lunch or dinner so that you can dine in one of Dalarö’s quaint eateries or take a walk along its peaceful streets.

About our boats and skippers

When you go sailing with Vind o Vatten you meet skippers who are passionate about what they do, who own the boats they sail and who nourish a close relationship with the Stockholm archipelago. They are well educated and experienced, each one having a Ship's Officer Class VIII certificate with decades of experience sailing in the archipelago, sail racing and offshore sailing.

You will be sailing a well-equipped and comfortable size boat of 35-36 feet. These boats are fast and fun to sail, without being too lively or difficult to handle. Since we sail our own boats, we know them inside and out and are fully aware of the possibilities and limitations of each vessel. We provide wind- and waterproof clothing on all tours as well as comfortable life vests for each guest.

Where to find us

Most of our tours start from Dalarö in the southern part of the Stockholm archipelago. You can get there easily by car or by commuter train and bus from the Stockholm city centre. On occasion, we start from Svinninge in the central part of the archipelago which is also easy to get to by public transport or car.

Fantastic and unforgettable! We are 3 Swiss people who love to sail and have always wanted to experience the Stockholm archipelago on a sailboat. Karin from Vind o Vatten made this possible. Her sailboat is moored in the port of Dalarö, a sailor’s paradise that is a 45-minute drive from Stockholm. Shortly after 10 a.m. we started – well “packed” in Karin’s sailing gear – on a 6-hour sailing tour around the island of Nämdö. Thanks to the good wind (it seems like there’s almost always wind here!) we were able to moor in a small bay and eat something for lunch. An unforgettable trip We went on a sailing trip with Birgitta on her beautiful boat « Esmeralda 2 ». We went around Dalarö and then the second day we sailed till Utö. It was very easy to sail and take an active role on the boat as Birgitta explained everything very clearly. She also had organized the trip in a way so we can get the most of the Archipelago : fine deli for lunch, dinner at a fancy restaurant and breakfast at a typical bakery with lots of delicious pastries.
