"I love surprising our guests with London's incredible diversity. You can go from admiring the dazzling architecture and shopping at the trendy boutiques, to watching grand royal ceremonies and meeting the locals in a 16th-century pub - all in one day."

Travel Director

Admire the Big Ben and the imposing Houses of Parliament

As you touch down in London, you’ll surely be searching the skyline for Big Ben, the iconic Clock Tower at the Palace of Westminster, or the Houses of Parliament. You'll have the chance to admire these impressive buildings in the company of your London travel guide and listen for the famous chimes that have been ringing out across London since 1859.

Learn about the history of the Buckingham Palace

You’re in for a royal time at Buckingham Palace, the official London residence of the British royal family since 1837. It’s one of the most iconic places to visit in London, and we’ll take you to marvel at this magnificent palace, learn about it’s centuries-old history, and perhaps even wave to the King if he’s home.

Ramble through London's picturesque Royal Parks

If you love a lush park or garden, you’re in for a real treat in London, with over 5,000 acres of gorgeous green space across the eight Royal Parks. Spend your days strolling, cycling, or simply relaxing in these beautiful parks, from the famous Hyde Park to the ornate Kensington Gardens.

Go on a shopping spree around Carnaby Street and Soho

We’ll dive into London’s West End with a tour around the buzzing borough of Soho, where you’ll get a taste of London’s diverse culture, history and cuisine. Wander down the iconic Oxford and Regent Streets and of course, Carnaby Street, the city’s shopping mecca, and the epicentre of the Swinging Sixties in London.

See the stately Changing of the Guard

You’ll watch history come alive when we take you to Buckingham Palace to witness the spectacular Changing of the Guard ceremony. It’s a full-on display of royal pomp and military tradition, with the soldiers of The Queen’s Guard in bearskin hats and bright-red uniforms marching down the Mall, and you can’t miss it on your London trip.

Our top 5 things to do in London

With an overwhelming number of iconic London attractions to explore, where to begin? When you travel London with Trafalgar, we’ll show you all the very best of the city.

Tate Modern

As one of the world’s largest museums of modern and contemporary art, the Tate Modern is an unmissable London attraction. You’ll find everything here from vibrant artworks to films and performance art, and you can’t miss the giant Turbine Hall, a five-storey tall room used to display extraordinarily large art installations.

Museum of London

If you’ve ever wanted to learn the history of this great city, the Museum of London is the place to go. It’s the world’s largest urban history collection and you’ll learn all about England’s capital from prehistoric to modern times. The museum even overlooks the remains of the Roman city wall on the edge of the oldest area of London.

Science Museum

You could spend hours exploring the treasures of the Science Museum including the world’s greatest innovations, ranging from Puffing Billy, the oldest surviving steam locomotive, to the first jet engine, to the Apollo 10 command module. You’ll travel from the Industrial Revolution all the way into the future in this amazing playground of the mind.

Best museums in London

London’s museums are among the world’s best, with millions of visitors each year to marvel at the incredible history, art and design. What treasures will you find when we take you to these great institutions?

Cottage Pie

It doesn’t get more comforting than a traditional cottage pie, and you’ve got to order this English staple at least once in a classic London pub. It’s been a beloved dish for generations, originating as a clever way to make a hearty meal from leftovers like beef, peas and carrots, topped with creamy mashed potatoes.

Cornish Pasty

Make a beeline for the nearest bakery in London and discover these little pockets of deliciousness. They’re made from shortcrust pastry stuffed with beef, potatoes, swede, onion and egg, then baked until golden, forming a rich gravy inside its own tasty casing. You’re sure to go back for more than just one Cornish pasty!

Named after the prestigious boys’ boarding school of the same name, this simple yet delicious treat is made from a refreshing blend of cream, strawberries and crushed meringue. It’s a classic British dessert and you can even try it at The National Café at the National Gallery, one of the best art museums in London.

Best food in London

Our London tours are big on foodie experiences, and you can go from a traditional English afternoon tea, to a delicious culinary adventure through Chinatown in the West End.

The heaviest tourist season runs mid-April through mid-October, with another peak around Christmas—though the tide never really ebbs. Spring is the time to see the countryside and the royal London parks and gardens at their freshest; fall to enjoy near-ideal exploring conditions. In late summer, be warned: air-conditioning is rarely found in places other than department stores, modern restaurants, hotels, and cinemas in London, and in a hot summer you'll swelter. Winter can be rather dismal, but all the theatres, concerts, and exhibitions go full speed.

It's virtually impossible to forecast London weather, but you can be fairly certain that it will not be what you expect. It's generally mild—with some savage exceptions, especially in summer. In short, be prepared for anything: layers and an umbrella are your friends.

Although jaunting around London can be expensive, there’s still plenty to see and do on a budget. Whether you’re on a luxury vacation or are carefully spending your pennies, our handy guide will help you get the most out of your money each day with hotel, food and sightseeing suggestions.

President Hotel

Check in to the President Hotel, just a short walk from the West End and Covent Garden. It’s conveniently located close to Russell Square Tube on the Piccadilly line, and you can travel straight to London Heathrow Airport on the Underground.

Eat on a budget

London is a city where you can dine like a king for just a few pounds. Walk to Chinatown for delicious dim sum at a steal, or head to one of Soho’s cool cafés. Another good spot is Kingly Court, which has a lovely al-fresco courtyard and scores of reasonably-priced restaurants.

Get out and walk

It’s free, and a great way to see some of London’s loveliest landmarks. Start at Westminster, then marvel at Big Ben and Westminster Abbey before walking along to the Southbank to Tower Bridge. Or, walk to South Kensington and explore some of London’s wonderful free museums including the Natural History Museum, Science Museum and the V&A.

The Cumberland

In a prime position just off Oxford Street, The Cumberland, London is the ultimate spot for live music. Every evening they host a different music genre, so you're bound to find something to satisfy your music tastes. SOUND will also whet your appetite with a menu filled with comfort food.

Eat deli style

Once you’re shopped out in Marylebone, make for cool deli La Fromagerie for fine cheese or nibble on Indian street food at Roti Chai.

Get cultural

See some theatre in the West End. For last-minute tickets head to Leicester Square’s TKTS booth, where you can buy tickets from as little as £15. The Lion King and Matilda are fun-filled family classics, while controversial The Book of Mormon remains a crowd-pleaser.

Shangri-La London

Wake up in style at the Shangri-La London, 125 metres high. All rooms offer phenomenal city views, but there's something quite magical looking out from London's highest infinity pool.

Spoil yourself

Splash out at Spring at Somerset House where super chef Skye Gyngell serves seasonal cuisine in leafy surrounds. Expect to pay around £150-£200 for a dinner for two. Afterwards zip to the nearby Radio Rooftop bar at ME London for cocktails with a view.

See London from above

If the sky’s the limit, hire your own capsule in the London Eye for two, or take a breathtaking ride in a helicopter and whizz above the Thames with London Helicopter.

Ans. Whenever you’re planning to book a London tour package, make sure you know about the network and connectivity aspects. You can use your Indian SIM in London, subject to the following aspects: Your Indian SIM card should stay unlocked. Contact your Indian carrier for this purpose. The Indian SIM card should have compatibility with networks in the UK. Also verify this aspect with your service provider to know whether they already have an agreement with any network in the UK. Alternatively, you can buy a UK SIM card from any local provider, choosing from options like pre-paid, pay-as-you-go or post-paid, based on your usage needs. Follow the instructions given by the service provider in the UK to active your UK SIM card in your mobile phone. You will have to update the settings on your mobile phone in most cases.

Ques. Which are the best months to visit London?

Ans. While London is mostly regarded as a year-round destination for work and leisure, most people prefer booking London tour packages for the peak season between June and August. The weather stays delightfully warm at this time, while the city comes alive with multiple events alongside. The off-season is between the months of November and February which witness wet and chilly winters.

Ques. What to wear during a London trip?

Ans. While checking out London tour packages online, make sure to create a list of essentials including clothing for your trip. London is a relaxed and liberal city without any dress codes. However, you should carry clothing in accordance with the season. Irrespective of the time of year, you should always have comfortable walking shoes along with jeans, a jacket, rain jacket or raincoat, umbrella and some layers along with sunglasses. Layering up with comfortable tees/tops and light woollen is highly recommended on your trip.

Ques. Can I use ATMs in London?

Ans. Currency is an important part of planning or booking any London tour package. You should try and exchange as much currency as possible in India before setting foot in London. When it comes to using ATMs in the UK capital, a majority of them take Visa (Plus) and MasterCard (Cirrus) cards. Most debit and credit cards in London are owned by any of these two global networks. Check with your bank beforehand to verify whether your debit/credit card will function in London. All ATM machines in the city showcase the logos of accepted card networks in order to give you a better idea.

Ques. What food is London known for?

Ans. Your London tour package should not only be about exploring the city’s historical attractions, but also about enjoying its lip-smacking local cuisine. Some of the must-try dishes in the city include the following: Bangers and Mash The Full English Breakfast, which is a quintessentially London thing to do. Scotch Eggs Fish and Chips The elaborate London tradition of afternoon tea. Pie and Mash Chicken Tikka Masala Spaghetti Bolognese In case you were wondering, Indian food is not just widely available in London but has also become immensely popular throughout the city. You’ll find curry houses and fine-dining restaurants serving up delicious Indian delicacies for guests.

Ques. Is London good for shopping?

Ans. Make sure you have ample time in your London tour package to check out some of the city’s iconic shopping streets and destinations. Some of them include the following: Bond Street- This is ideal for luxury brand lovers where they can find Valentino, Abercrombie & Fitch, Tiffany & Co, Burberry, Louis Vuitton and the likes. It’s also where you’ll chance upon the sole Victoria’s Secret store in the UK. Piccadilly Circus- You’ll love the bustling vibe of the area with its innumerable shopping destinations and proximity to Soho with its nightlife joints and vintage clothing stores. It was like heritage walk of the Major medieval Cities of England Scotland and Ireland. Many of Its Castles Like Windsor ,Alnwick and Ross Castle of Killarney Ireland and Palaces Looked almost surrealistic and we felt as if we have taken back in Time to the medieval Ages. The Tour Guides were thorough professional even though they had to shuffle between English and spanish in their Narrative they did a wonderful job.

Essential Britain & Ireland Tour

Essential Britain & Ireland

I’ve just returned from this fabulous tour! I highly recommend it. We had the greatest tour guide and bus driver. The itinerary was fascinating . You read about the itinerary before you go, but the reality of the itinerary far exceeded my expectation! We were blessed with great weather, too. We only had misty rain on two of the 10 days. I would probably change one of the hotels and one if the meals, but of those were fine. Others were just better! The excursions were great. I went on four out six of them. Did our own thing the last night in London. The Park Plaza Westminster Bridge was my favorite hotel and it was strategically located!

The European Magic trip was outstanding. I was looking for something to do on my own (without friends from home) and am so glad I found Contiki. I made a bunch of friends on the trip, everything being organized for us and planned out was epic. The trip manager Rianna was absolutely fantastic. She played so many roles on the trip and was integral in its success.

What people love about Europe Tours from London

Guides were great and the tour was an excellent way to see lots of places in a short amount of time
Very nice itinerary ... jam packed days and evenings. I chose not to do any of the extra evening excursions that were offered so I was able to use the time to explore every overnight stop on my own. The tour guide was amazing... so full of knowledge about all the countries/areas we visited.

NEWS... BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

‘I flew from Manchester to Milan for 14 hours because it’s cheaper than a trip to London’

Dagmara in Italy holding an Aperol Spritz

A thrifty woman paid £50 for return flights to Milan , spending 14 hours in Italy for less than a day out in London .

Dagmara Kedzierska made the savvy trip due to increasingly expensive rail tickets in the UK.

It would have cost the 30-year-old over £100 alone to get a return train from her home in Manchester to the capital. So instead, the business owner flew to Milan Bergamo for half the price.

Arriving at 10:50am in the Italian city, she started her day grabbing a coffee with a freshly baked croissant for breakfast.

Dagmara then caught a £6 train to Varenna to see the beautiful Lake Como and watch the world go by while eating pizza and drinking Aperol spritz , before taking the £6 train back to Milan and hopping on the £2 Metro to see the famous Duomo cathedral.

After exploring the area, she travelled back on the Metro to the station and spent £11 on a train to Malpensa airport for her flight home, arriving back in Manchester at 1am the next day.

WIN VIP tickets to Pub In The Park worth £110 each!

Tom Kerridge’s Pub in the Park returns to Chiswick, Reigate and St Albans for 2024 – and we’ve got five pairs of VIP tickets to give away, worth up to £110 each.

Win tickets to summer's ultimate foodie festival (Picture: Pub In The Park)

The much-loved food and music festival celebrates everything there is to love about the glorious British pub: delicious food, award-winning chefs , epic live music, delicious drinks but above all else, a fantastic time with friends and family.

Mel C, Busted, McFly, Paloma Faith, Sam Ryder, Gabrielle and Olly Murs have all been confirmed to play across the four weekends, with even more acts still to be announced!

To find out more and for your chance to win the ultimate summer day out, click here . You have until  midnight 15 May  to enter, so sign up soon! Full T&Cs apply, see here .

Dagmara said: ‘The day trips abroad are way more appealing, as most of the time they work out cheaper than staying in the UK.

‘My Milan trip cost me less than £200 including the flights, transport, food and drinks.

‘The weather abroad is also more likely to be better than here, I live in Manchester and the weather lately hasn’t been the greatest!

‘Travelling abroad, even if it’s only for one day, gets me in a holiday mood.’

Dagmara poses for a photo by Lake Como

She’s not new to these whistlestop journeys overseas either, and likes to make the most of her annual leave while visiting as many countries as possible.

‘I have done a few day trips abroad for one day and it allows me to go back to work the next day without taking any time off,’ Dagmara adds.

‘I also love food and travelling abroad even for one day lets me try new foods. The restaurants in the UK are very basic and most of the time you will eat pre cooked pasta or prebaked pizza.’

Aperol Spritz and pizza by Lake Como

Proper Italian food is just one benefit of a jet-setting day out to Milan. Despite its upmarket image, the city is affordable (as long as you plan ahead and stick to your itinerary).

Travel blogger Nele van Hout wrote : ‘It is totally doable to go to Milan on a budget and still have a fantastic time…

‘There are a lot of things to do in Milan for free. You can go window shopping in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele and Castello Sforzesco can be seen (partly) for free. Even simply wandering around to enjoy the architecture is a real treat.’

A woman holding a gelato in front of Duomo in Italy

Plus, given trains in the UK are among the priciest in Europe , while delays or cancellations are now seemingly the norm , it’s understandable you’d opt for a foreign break over braving somewhere close to home.

The growing cost of staycations is causing many to look further afield when planning their holidays, as Metro.co.uk’s senior news editor Alice Murphy explains : ‘Holiday-let owners across the UK are reporting a notable fall in bookings this year after a boom during the pandemic, with many blaming poor weather and prices resulting from the cost of living crisis…

‘Travel experts say holidaymakers are becoming more careful, booking later and spending less, all with the intention of getting the best value for their money.’

Dagmara posing for a photo in front of Lake Como

There are downsides to consider if you’re weighing up a whistlestop visit abroad, though.

Firstly, planes produce far more emissions than trains, coaches and even cars, so flying a few hours’ away for less than a day isn’t exactly eco-friendly.

It’s also important to factor in the cost (both money and time) of getting to and from the airport, potential tourist taxes , and whether you have the stamina to spend a day on your feet without a hotel room to rest in.

Breakdown of Dagmara's costs for Manchester to Milan
