Angkor Wat: This awe-inspiring monument, often hailed as one of the Eight Wonders of the World, stands as a testament to devotion and architectural brilliance. It's the largest religious structure ever constructed, encompassing temples, pagodas, statues, palaces, and chambers. Built during the height of the Khmer Empire's power, Angkor Wat was dedicated to King Suryavarman II. It typically takes three days to fully appreciate the complex, and Angkor Wat serves as your gateway to the wonders of Angkor culture. Note: The site is approximately a 40-minute drive from Siem Reap's city center.

Angkor Thom: Encircled by a grand moat, Angkor Thom resembles a fortified citadel more than a religious site. Four monumental gates grant access in each cardinal direction: north, south, east, and west. The fifth, known as the Victory Gate, leads eastward from the Angkor Thom Royal Palace grounds. Once, each gate was connected by a causeway, but today, only the south gate retains its watery approach.

Ta Prohm: Situated in the western part of the Angkor Wat Complex, Ta Prohm boasts a unique charm. Its massive stones blend seamlessly with the towering trees that have overtaken the site. This temple was commissioned by King Jayavarman VII as part of his ambitious monastery and university construction program. Its enchanting and somewhat mysterious atmosphere made it a fitting location for scenes in the movie "Tomb Raider." Note: The best time to visit is in the afternoon when the enormous trees provide welcome shade.

Bayon Temple: Built in the late 12th to early 13th century under King Jayavarman VII's reign, Bayon Temple is renowned for its iconic stone faces. From a distance, it appears as a mountain, but as you approach, the multitude of serene stone visages becomes apparent. Second only to Angkor Wat in significance, Bayon Temple holds a special place in the hearts of those who explore its labyrinthine corridors.

Banteay Srei & Land Mine Museum Discovery with Tonle Sap Lake Sunset: After breakfast, we'll explore the captivating Banteay Srei, a red sandstone marvel adorned with intricate carvings. Learn about Cambodia's land mine issue at the Land Mine Museum, discovering how they're detected and defused.

Visit a nearby village to taste palm candies and rice wine, then enjoy an ox cart ride through scenic countryside. Reach Tonle Sap Lake, Southeast Asia's largest freshwater lake, and take a boat to Kampong Phluk to explore mangrove forests.

Start your day at 8:00 AM as our guide picks you up from your hotel and takes you to Thailand's largest flower market, Pak Klong Talad. Stroll through the market, sample local snacks, watch flower garland making, and even try your hand at creating your own garland and lotus flower decorations, following the Thai tradition for temple visits.

Next, hop on a tuk-tuk to visit one of Bangkok's oldest temples, Wat Pho, famous for its impressive 45-meter (14-foot) reclining Buddha and the birthplace of traditional Thai massage. At 9:00 AM, you'll have the unique opportunity to witness and listen to the soothing chants of the monks.

Following Wat Pho, visit the Grand Palace, home to the revered Emerald Buddha statue, which is actually made of jade or jasper. Then, embark on a longtail boat ride along the picturesque canals of Thonburi to experience local life, with a stop at Wat Arun along the way.

Return to land and enjoy a TukTuk ride to explore the vibrant Chinatown. Stroll along Yaowarat Road, where shops offer a variety of goods, including gold. Explore the bustling Talad Kao Market, known for its diverse selection of fresh and dried fruits, Chinese herbs, and culinary delights.

Finally, we'll drop you off at your choice of MBK (a popular shopping mall), the weekend market (open only on weekends), or your hotel. Please note the dress code for temple visits, and be aware that the monks' chanting ritual occurs in the morning and may be subject to change.

Please note that these tunnels will be hot and can get claustrophobic, so there is an option if you’d like to view from above ground.

Try some of the main food of the Viet Cong Soldiers with a cassava tasting served with tangy tea. After experiencing the Cu Chi Tunnels, return to Ho Chi Minh City where the remainder of the day will be at your leisure.

Day 10 : HCM City – Ben Tre (Mekong Delta) – Flight to Siem Reap

Morning After breakfast, your private guide and driver will take you out of HCM City in a private vehicle and onto some beautiful country roads to Ben Tre Town in the   Mekong Delta , famous for its vast rice fields, numerous waterways, and beautiful landscapes. Known as the ‘rice bowl’ of Vietnam, this region produces most of Vietnam’s fruit, rice, sugar cane, and coconuts.

After the two-hour drive through the lush farming land, you will arrive in Ben Tre where you will set out on a  motorized boat trip on narrow channels winding through the coconut forest. During the boat ride, you will stop at the local cottage industries   to see how the local people make bricks and weave sleeping mats by hand. Learn about their craft handed down through generations.

Take a leisure walk along the village lanes, visiting the local homes to try fresh fruits, taste delicious honey tea while enjoying a local Tai Tu music show . Continue to visit  another workshop where the local delicacy of coconut candy is produced and a wide range of coconut husk and fiber products are skillfully handcrafted.

Next, take a small sampan through palm-fringed back canals , gliding peacefully along the hidden waterways surrounded by an immense variety of tropical plants. The quiet, rural setting is a welcome and restorative retreat to the frenetic buzz of HCM City which seems far, far away.

Enjoy sitting in the back a Motor Cart (xe lôi) passing local hamlets, rice fields, coconut groves, and lush orchard farms while meeting with local people.

Afternoon After finishing your sightseeing tour your guide will take you to a riverside restaurant for lunch with local specialties then return to the pier and drive back HCMC’s Tan Son Nhat airport to catch a short flight to Siem Reap, as your travel itinerary takes you from Vietnam to Cambodia.

Upon arrival at Siem Reap Airport , your Cambodian private guide and driver are waiting to meet you, holding up a  welcome signboard  with your names on it and take you directly to your hotel for check-in. The rest of the afternoon and evening will be free at your leisure.

Please note: You must have both a passport and a visa to enter Cambodia. And your passport must also have at least six months’ validity remaining beyond the date that you enter Cambodia. You can get a visa on arrival in Cambodia. Make sure you have two passport-sizes photographs.

Day 11 : Siem Reap – Full-Day Temple Exploration

Today with the help of your private and driver you will embark on a full day’s sightseeing around the Angkor Archaeological Park  which stretches over some 400 square kilometres, including forested area. The park contains the magnificent remains of several capitals of the great Khmer Empire of the 9th to the 15th centuries.

Morning Begin your day with an early visit (avoid the crowds) to the 13th-century Ta Prohm , a hauntingly beautiful temple where the roots of giant banyans and strangler figs enfold much of the stonework, creating scenes little changed since the French Adventurer Henri Mouhot re-discovered Angkor in the 1850s.  This temple makes the ‘Tomb Raider Temple’ one of the most picturesque and memorable of the Angkor temples.

Continue your explorations by visiting the ancient capital city of Angkor Thom , the last capital of the Great Khmer Empire that once ruled much of Southeast Asia. This city is surrounded by an 8 m high wall drawing a perfect square. You will enter the city from the ancient South Gate , an impressive stone gate carved with Elephants and four giant faces. On each side of the entrance path, a row of 54 gods or demons is holding the sacred Naga snak e .

Return to the hotel for a relaxing break during the midday heat.

Afternoon Your exploits will continue as you visit Banteay Kdei (“Citadel of Chambers”), a Buddhist monastery from the late 12th Century, and Sra Srang , also known as the “pool of ablutions”. From here, move onto the Bayon Temple in the exact centre of the ancient city. This 12th-century masterpiece is a study in grandeur and is well-known for its 54 towers with enigmatic faces representing the 54 provinces of the Great Khmer Empire.

You will also visit the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King as they are both known for their intricate bas-reliefs. Stroll through the grounds of the former Royal Palace to discover some small hidden temples that are rarely visited.

Finish your day sightseeing with a leisurely  gondola boat ride through the moats of Angkor Thom . In the tranquil solitude, visualize the royal city when it ruled over two million people nearly 800 years ago. As the sun approaches the horizon, make your way to Prasat Chrung , a small temple built in the style of Bayon, and climb an iron staircase to a quiet spot for excellent sunset views over the ruins.

Evening Your tour guide and driver will transfer you to a local village on the outskirt of Siem Reap where you will enjoy a home-hosted dinner . Experience the simple Khmer village life, relaxing in a swaying hammock, or helping the local family to prepare dinner, picking fresh produce from their organic gardens. In this amiable and informal setting, feel free to ask the village elders about Khmer traditions and daily life in this community.

Day 12 : Siem Reap – Further Temple Exploration

Today, you’ll continue to experience the temple relics but in a way that will really let you feel like you’ve escaped the 20th century and traveled a thousand years back to a time when life was simple and nature was surreal.

Morning As first light dawns, you will be at the most important religious monument in the country, admiring the extraordinary Temple of Angkor Wat across a reflecting moat.

When the sun rises behind the triple towers, the crowds will thin out as most people return to bed or a hotel breakfast. We will make use of the cool temperatures and soft morning light to explore Angkor Wat in a more peaceful atmosphere.

After enjoying your takeaway breakfast (prepared by your guide) near the temple, you will start exploring one of the Seven Wonders of the World : Angkor Wat . At this point, you most probably have gotten glimpses of the towers over treetops and the gates in front of passing. But now you’ll finally get to satiate that curiosity that’s grown in the last few days.

Enter Angkor Wat and learn about the stories and amazing architecture that has stunned archeologists leaving more questions than answers. Angkor Wat possesses some of the most intricate and longest stone carvings in the world. This complex is four times the size of the Vatican City making it the largest religious site in the world. Spend the rest of the morning adventuring through the many passages, levels, and exploring chambers that once housed one of many treasures of the ancient world. It will be an experience you will never forget.

Leaving Angkor Wat behind you will travel to the countryside to see the “gem” of the Angkor area, the pretty temple of Banteay Srey . The so-called “Citadel of the Women” remains the best-preserved temple in Cambodia. It displays some of the finest examples of classical Khmer art as this small temple is noted for its truly remarkable fine bas-reliefs. Banteay Srey is unique in that it is constructed of pink sandstone, which is seen nowhere else in Angkor.

Continue your day by driving up north to Kbal Spean , one of the earliest Hindu pilgrimage sites in Cambodia. Upon arrival, you will take a short trek up the hill through dense jungle with excellent views over the plains and the Kulen hills . At the top, be surprised about the “River of 1000 Lingas” with some remarkable stone carvings of Hindu gods, animals, and other symbols in the river bed.

Afternoon After enjoying a picnic lunch you can take a refreshing bath in the nearby waterfall, which is extremely popular with the local families.

On the way back to Siem Reap, make a quick stop at the Land Mine Museum which promotes mine awareness. Mr. Aki Ra, the museum founder, was trained as a child soldier during the Khmer Rouge regime and is working today as a de-miner. The museum serves also as a rescue centre for a number of land mine amputee children that Aki Ra has brought off Phnom Penh’s streets or from impoverished rural communities.

Evening Your guide and driver will take you out to watch Phare – the Cambodian Circus , an amazing blend of traditional and modern theater, music, dance, acrobatic, juggling and contortion beautifully choreographed and performed in a story about Cambodian lives and society.

Day 13 : Siem Reap – Tonle Sap boat trip – Flight to Bangkok

Morning After breakfast, embark on a half-day adventure and soak up the scenery as you drive through the rice paddies and rural villages to reach the biggest Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake –  Tonle Sap Lake .

Upon arrival, you will firstly enjoy a fun ox cart ride through the countryside. After that take a leisurely boat trip along the Tonle Sap river, which flows through the heart of Kompong Phluk Village . Along the way, enjoy the beautiful lake view and mangrove forest on the lake. Get a glimpse of local life as you glide past the stilted houses, pagodas, markets, and watch locals going about their everyday lives.

Later, you will be transferred to a smaller boat to paddle through the flooded forest of Kompong Phluk to discover the fascinating daily lives of the local people who leave on the water.

End the tour around midday. Return to the wharf where your driver will be waiting to take you back to your hotel.

Afternoon You will be driven to Siem Reap airport for a short flight to Bangkok, Thailand. Upon arrival, your Thai private guide and driver are waiting to meet you, holding up a  welcome signboard  with your names on it and take you directly to your hotel in the City Centre for check-in. The rest of the afternoon will be free at your leisure.

Evening Head out for a luxury barge journey into Thai culture and the Thai hearts. Enjoy fine dining, traditional and culture tour on the only original antique teakwood rice barge on the river in Bangkok. Experience first-class Thai hospitality and delicious food from around Thailand in the comfort and tranquility of the luxury, open-air cruise.

Day 14 : Bangkok – Full-day City tour & Evening Street Food Tour

Morning After breakfast, meet your private guide and driver again and head to the historic center of Bangkok and start your day at Wat Suthat . A few visitors come to this temple early, so much the better to enjoy the monks’ melodic chanting ritual. It’s an incredible sensory experience. Then, a short walk to Wat Pho (famous for its 141-foot-long reclining Buddha) will take you through small alleys with wooden houses, guardian spirit signs, and lively fruit and flower markets.

Make a stop at Lak Muang , Bangkok’s city pillar, well worth a five-minute detour before continuing onto the site the Thai people consider the most sacred in the Kingdom: The Royal Grand Palace and the E merald Buddha . This is one of the most beautiful examples of an ancient Thai court, with several grand halls in the same compound.

Enjoy a delightful Thai lunch and take in the scenic views at the Deck by Arun Residence restaurant and experience the mid-day bustling atmosphere of the lively Chao River.

Afternoon Take the public ferry to visit the Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun) , which you will probably recognize from its famous silhouette. The local story goes that the shards of pottery decorating its 79 m tall spire came from a nearby shipwreck 100 years ago.

Continue to explore the Khlongs by a Long Tail Boat and be amazed by the constantly changing sights, from Thai wooden houses on stilts to the many boats with sellers offering everything from fruit to souvenirs.

Your sightseeing tour ends with a visit Wat Triamit , one of the most famous temples in Bangkok and is known as the Temple of the Golden Buddha (the statue of Buddha is made from solid gold weighting 5.5 tons). Then get back to your hotel for a short rest and some shower before taking the fantastic evening food tour by Tuk Tuk, a very popular means of transport in Thailand.

Evening Embark on an enchanting Tuk Tuk food journey from the heart of Bangkok. Led by expert guides and Tuk Tuk drivers, you’ll be whisked away to savor the flavors of Northeastern Thai cuisine , indulging in spicy delicacies like papaya salad, crispy catfish, and more. A charming detour to the flower market and Wat Pho adds a touch of magic to your evening.

Experience the renowned Pad Thai like a true insider, bypassing queues. As the night deepens, ascend to a local rooftop bar, drink in hand, to admire the mesmerizing Chao Phraya River views . This culinary adventure concludes with a drop-off at your hotel, leaving you with dreams of vibrant tastes and illuminated horizons.

Day 15 : Bangkok – Day Trip to Ayutthaya

Morning After breakfast, your private tour guide will pick you up for a drive to the Historical Park of Ayutthaya , an archaeological site that contains palaces, Buddhist temples, monasteries, and statues. Ayutthaya is the former   capital of the Kingdom of Thailand and a prosperous international trading port, from 1350 until razed by the Burmese in 1767.

Upon arrival you will visit: – Wat Phu Khao Thong– Originally built in 1387 by the second king of the Ayutthaya kingdom; this is an impressive monument in the north-western part of Ayutthaya. When the Burmese took over Ayutthaya in 1569, the Burmese king built a mon-style chedi (or pyramid) on top of the former temple to celebrate his victory over Ayutthaya and the Siamese. – Wat Phra Sri Sanphet – Once a royal temple located next to the Grand Palace, it was once the most significant temple during the Ayutthaya period. – Viharn Phra Mongkolbopit, an impressive building that houses a large seated bronze Buddha. Its rebuilt pristine hall was believed to be a replica of the old Assembly Hall of Ayutthaya.

Afternoon After lunch, continue to visit; – Wat Lokaya Sutha, the largest reclining Buddha of Ayutthaya at 8 meters high and 42 meters long. This Buddha is made of brick and covered with plaster. – Wat Mahathat, a classic temple ruins of Ayutthaya and famous for the picturesque Buddha head engulfed by the Bodhi tree roots. The foundation size, remaining prangs, and towers attest to its significance during its time.

Finish the tour and wind your way back to Bangkok where the rest of the day will be yours to explore at your leisure.

17-day visit to Vietnam with Asia Pioneer Travel (APT)

My wife and I just returned from a wonderful first-time trip to Vietnam – thanks to the quality service provided by APT. So many things went well for us. We were able to customize the default itinerary to fit our schedule and sightseeing preferences. We spent a few initial days corresponding via email, phone and WhatsApp with our assigned Travel Designer (Elly), and she answered all of our questions and addressed any concerns we had. She also helped us obtain our e-Visas and purchased domestic airline tickets for us. The hotels provided were excellent – good locations, clean and comfortable rooms, friendly and helpful staff and nice amenities. The hotels also provided very tasty and substantial buffet breakfasts through a wide variety of foods and beverages. What also stood out were the outstanding local guides that accompanied us in HCM City, Hoi An/Hue, Hanoi and Sapa. The guides were professional, friendly and knowledgeable regarding the area history and culture. We learned so much from the guides and they really enhanced our travel experience. They also led us to some great restaurants where we enjoyed the local cuisine. Also, all of the drivers provided were highly skilled and always on-time for pickups. And on top of having an enjoyable trip, we felt the trip cost was very reasonable and affordable. We are so glad we went with APT!

Wonderful 3.5 weeks in se asia.

My adult daughter (age 25) and I worked with Lizzie at Asia Pioneer Travel to plan a 3.5 week trip to Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. We travelled as a pair for the first 2 weeks, then I continued on my own for another 1.5 weeks. Everything was fantastic! Every hotel was great and all flights and airport transfers were meticulously planned. But the best part were the guides and activities. We opted for private guides and they were all knowledgeable, fun and easy to talk to. We learned so much from them. We also enjoyed all the boat rides, tours, cooking classes, etc that Lizzie planned for us. Given all of that, Lizzie also respected our request for free time and helped us find some of that too! I highly recommend Lizzie and her team.

INDOCHINA ULTIMATE TRAVEL GUIDE : VIETNAM-CAMBODIA-THAILAND DETAILED DIY ITINERARY

tri country tour vietnam cambodia thailand

(*Updated : Jan 2020)

My Indochina Ultimate Travel Guide : VIETNAM-CAMBODIA-THAILAND DETAILED ITINERARY (Vietnam-Cambodia-Chiang Mai-Bangkok Thailand) for 11D / 10N DIY Trip, Detailed Itinerary, guide, budget, hostel, food and crossing border.

Planning for your Indochina Trip? Budgets, Itinerary, crossing borders, restaurant, Food and places to check out plus tips for you to avoid SCAM and the notes to consider when you venture on this trip. So read on…

024D3FEC-0A2A-4EBF-92AC-F693040D6543

I have always thought that the Indochina Backpacking Trip would be one hell of a crazy adventure but would be rich with new experiences that is definitely worth the try. This was my longest trip to date since I started loving the idea from travelling way back 2015.

I used my most number of Vacation Leaves for this trip hahahaha!! Plus months of planning for a perfect itinerary that would perfectly match my personality and type of adventure I was looking for.

Trust me, that you wouldn’t find any other blog as complete and detailed as it is hahahah!!! (*super struggle to complete this!!) . It took me several months to really come up with my own itinerary without wasting any time and maximizing each place has to offer. Basically my entire itinerary is written below, while specific sites may be accessed per day so you get to see it further as well.

So why Indochina?

I have my Travel Bucket List to start with South East Asian Countries and I wanted to make sure I do it in an order that best interests me. Indochina according to blogs and write-ups is literally cheap and you can go to 3 countries with just Php 20,000.00 / USD 400 for like more than a week. So was it really possible? — yes. But see how I did it.

But first, what and where is Indochina?

You might confuse it with Indonesia and China as it sounds like a shortcut for both countries ( *my brother even asked me If I’ll be going to the Great Wall of China upon hearing I’m bound for my Indochina Trip hahaha!*)

INDOCHINA, Mainland Southeast Asia is the continental portion of Southeast Asia. It lies east of the Indian subcontinent and south of China and is bordered by the Indian Ocean to the west and the Pacific Ocean to the east. It includes the countries of Myanmar, Thailand, peninsular Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.

You may start at whatever country best interest you but what I did was to start it from Vietnam – Cambodia – Thailand before heading back to Manila. I did it for 11Days and 10Nights, you can skip the Chiang Mai part of the trip and make it 7D / 6N if you only have a week for a vacation and it would still be great and fun.

AIRFARE / CROSSING BORDERS / BUS TRIPS

How to go to vietnam :.

  • There is a direct flight from Manila going to Saigon via Cebu Pacific (I booked mine for Php2,500 / 47 USD / 1099962.17 VND
  • Travel Time is roughly 2 hours and 45 minutes
  • so it kinda feel we even had more time as soon as we arrived in Saigon! hahah!

245471AF-800B-440C-B270-8DD44761045F

How to go to Cambodia :

  • You may take a flight directly to Siem Reap Cambodia if you want to spend less time and have more budgets as well.
  • Or you may cross border from Vietnam going to Siem Reap
*detailed blog post in cross bordering from Vietnam to Cambodia; also read :  Crossing border from Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh) to Cambodia (Siem Reap) via bus

How to go to Bangkok :

*detailed blog post in cross bordering from Cambodia to Thailand; also read :  DIY Guide : Crossing border from Cambodia (Siem Reap) to Thailand (Bangkok) detailed guide

7F14AB48-AB0D-4F87-90D4-FA78FF7EBD94

How to go to Chiang Mai, Thailand from Bangkok?:

  • this is optional for your Indochina Trip, you may stop in Bangkok and maximize it.
  • If you have more time to spare, Chiang Mai is definitely another city to look out in Thailand. You may ride a bus from Bangkok bound to Chiang Mai
*detailed blog post going to Chiang Mai  from Bangkok; also read :  DIY Guide : Going to Chiang Mai from Bangkok

*you may check out riding the train going to Chiang Mai, I initially planned for this as it sounds more interesting, however it gets fully booked online pretty fast!! So make sure to book in advance if you have plans of going to Chiang Mai.

When it comes to changing money,  I always thought of searching online where I could score the best deal for my money but thinking about the time I have to invest in it. I only changed my money at the airport, the exchange rate was not too bad and it was still a good deal after all.

851AD1F3-AE34-468A-8829-469E9DB7EF71

  • Vietnam money is called Vietnamese Dong = VND
  • PHP 1 = VND 439.98
  • Php 1 = KHR 77.13
  • However, mostly in Cambodia they accept and use USD in doing business. So I have not used much of my KHR in Cambodia, instead I’ve been spending my USD the entire time. It is then however feels more expensive for us Filipinos
  • Php 1 = THB 1.70

*Note : it is better to exchange all your pocket money to US Dollar instead of keeping a Philippine Peso with you, in other countries they do not accept PHP. You would end up withdrawing from the ATM and the bank charges is definitely big.

Though for emergency purposes, withdrawing is also still possible I used BDO and it is very convenient, my Bestfriend Kim uses her Paymaya Card to withdraw instead and it was also okay (Metrobank have hard time on this part)

  • In these 3 countries, English Language is widely used. You’ll definitely survive with this.
  • The hardest we get to communicate is in Vietnam where there are still locals that cannot understand English well
  • Cambodia on the other hand can speak well in English but with the twang but still manageable
  • While Thailand, being the tourist destination have so many foreigners and locals who does speak the language well.

TIME DIFFERENCE FROM PHILIPPINE TIME :

For the 3 countries – Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand there is a time difference of 1 hour from our Philippine Time.

We are 1 hour ahead in the Philippines.

MODES OF TRANSPORTATION :

  • In Vietnam, it gets too traffic similar with the Philippines. Mostly the locals used Motorcycles or Scooter as a main form for transportation. You would literally see a bunch of them in scooters and there are everywhere.
  • Taxis and Grab Car is also widely used however, as mentioned, traffic is really bad in Vietnam
  • I was never a fan of Motorcycles in Manila hahaha! But in Vietnam, we had to ride via Grab Bike to be transported in time, what is good about this is they only limit up to 1 passenger per motorbike plus they have helmet for each passenger for safety.

4967623F-F67B-4105-A1DF-FDF4DF8E5795

  • In Cambodia, Tuktuk Ride is where there are used to. It is a 3-wheeled ride almost similar with the Kalesa feels in Manila
  • We only used our 1 tuktuk service during our entire stay in Cambodia, there are everywhere but SCAM is rampant as well, so be sure to have someone to trust for your stay in Siem Reap
  • Our contact was from our Airbnb Accom. Where we were fetched from the Bus Terminal all the way to all our city and temple hopping trip in Siem Reap, we also agreed first with the cost for all the service and trip before saying yes and agreeing to it. Just to make sure you get the value for your money well.
  • In Thailand it varies, when we were in Chiang Mai there is a mini jeep which they call as “Red Taxi” it can accommodate even up to 10 or 12 pax
  • In Bangkok, there are trains available but we opt to go for more Grab Rides
  • They also have a Tuktuk in Thailand where you can ride for short distance location

As a whole, I could roughly say that I was able to spent around 40k – 50k if you’ll follow the exact itinerary I have for 11 Days, that includes EVERYTHING!!! my flight, my food and accommodation, my pasalubong and everything in between! You can totally spend around Php 20,000 – 30,000 for this as well if you could cut the trip to 7 days or so, or limit your booked activities.

  • Budget Wise, Vietnam is really cheap!!! I only had Php 2,000 at hand and we manage to survive for 3 days, food is cheap and everything is really cheap!! It might appear expensive because of the currency and you’ll feel like spending for a piece of bread for VND 60.000 already hahahah!! (*they use thousands as currency)
  • Make sure to buy your pasalubongs in Vietnam already, as it has the cheapest finds already.
  • In Cambodia, since they mostly used USD for business here, everything appears a bit expensive. I actually and even spent almost Php 8k for 2 days in Siem Reap. You’ll get to save better if you are 3 or 4 in a group travelling — as you get to save and divide the expenses more.
  • Budget in Thailand is somehow reasonable, you get the product or service for the price you paid for. Though there are some tourists area where the price gets a little expensive, just be sure to check out everything. Chiang Mai was a little bit more expensive in terms of the tour cost and transportation costs.

WHERE TO STAY IN VIETNAM, CAMBODIA AND THAILAND :

Accommodation.

I usually reserve and book in advance prior my trip for my accommodation as I hated being stressed on this part of the trip. Better also if the hostel offers free breakfast already as you get to save on that part. I also make sure to stay where I think is the center of the sites and places I’ll be visiting so I’ll get to save on transportation expense at some point.

This is where I stayed during my trip that you may want to check out :

This place has been voted to be among the 11 most beautiful destinations for sandboarding in the world.

Kayaking: Halong Bay (VN), Pha Ngang Bay (Thailand)

Kayaking is an easy-to-try and ecstatic activity to try when visiting the beautiful bays of Vietnam and Thailand. If you are traveling to Halong Bay (Vietnam) or Pha Ngang Bay (Thailand), don’s miss riding the kayak to explore the corners of the emerald bay. With this kind of boat, you could easily paddle through the stunning caves and the isolated lagoons to behold the irresistible beauty of these natural wonders.

Meet the wild elephants at Mondulkiri (Cambodia)

Mondulkiri is the best jungle trekking destination in Cambodia thanks to its diverse bio-ecological systems. Notably, this is home to an Asian elephant sanctuary. Here, not only can you discover the lush forests but you are given the opportunity to meet the wild elephants. You can feed and wash them, also.

Waterfall abseiling and white water rafting in Chiang Mai (Thailand)

Get your adrenaline flowing by rappeling down the limestone waterfall and falling into the cool water in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Spend your full days in the unspoiled Mae Taeng River and Wang Thong to make friends with the whitewater. Here you can ride the raft along the untamed river or rappel down the 100-meter limestone waterfall. It’s a challenging yet fascinating way to harmonize with the wild nature of northern Thailand.

Special food & Local cuisine you should try during your Thailand Cambodia Vietnam Tour

Must-try food in thailand , tom yum goong.

This is the iconic delicacy that anyone takes Thailand food tours can’t miss. This shrimp soup is the perfect combination of Thai ingredients such as lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime leaves, fish sauce, lime juice, and of course, hot chili. Tom Yum Goong is bold, fragrant, and exceptionally spicy, which will definitely fit your taste buds.

Pad Thai is the traditional fried noodles of Thailand. The noodles are stir-fried with eggs, tofu, onion, and beansprout and flavored with fish sauce, lime, garlic, chili, and sugar. Shrimp or chicken might be added to the dish to add more flavor, yet the vegetarian version with no meat is popular, too.

Must-try food in Cambodia

Fish Amok is the signature dish of Cambodia. Fillets of freshwater fish are dipped in a mixture of coconut milk, egg, fish sauce, sugar, and “kroeung” - a special Cambodian paste made from lemongrass, turmeric, shallot, garlic, and ginger. Banana leaves are shaped into a bowl, and the locals will put all these things onto it and have it steamed to make the heavenly tasty Fish Amok that appears in almost all Cambodian menus.

Khmer Curry

Khmer Curry is another delicacy you should try when spending your luxury vacation in Cambodia. That variant of curry is milder and far less spicy than the ones in India and Thailand. It is still a coconut milk-based; however, rather than using many spices, the Khmer people love to add more herbs into this dish. Khmer Curry is often served with baguette - a remnant of the French influences.

Must-try food in Vietnam

This world-famous dish is perhaps the first image popping up in everyone’s mind when thinking about Vietnamese cuisine. Varied in taste as “pho” might seem to be in different parts of Vietnam, it is still a dish that would capture foodaholics’ hearts from the very first try. A standard bowl of “pho” needs to have the perfect noodle and tasty & aromatic broth and must be full of meat (beef, pork, chicken, etc.) and veggie.

Famous as the world’s most delicious sandwiches, “banh mi” is absolutely a must-try for any Vietnam Tours. Viet people filled the French baguette with different kinds of meat, pate, vegetables, sauces, etc. to make a sumptuous “banh mi”. It is crispy, flavorful, and fragrant, thus being able to easily whet your appetite.  Different places might have their variations of “banh mi”, and “Banh mi Hoi An”, “Banh mi Hue”, and “Banh mi Saigon” are three most famous representatives.

13. What to pack for your Thailand Cambodia Vietnam Tour

The very first thing to care about is the dress code. What kinds of clothes should you bring along when taking a vacation to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam? As you are expected to travel to different places, you’ll need to pack different clothes. Bring along modest clothes that do not reveal much skin to wear on culture trips to the sacred temples and historical sites. In contrast, for days spent on the beaches, bikinis are a must-have. Furthermore, remember to bring sports outfits for adventurous Southeast Asia trips.

Similar to clothes, travelers need to prepare different kinds of shoes, sneakers, and slip-on to be suitable for different kinds of travel. Sandals and shoes are suitable for a gentle stroll but if you are about to walk or play a lot, the sneaker is a much wiser choice.

Personal stuff (sunscreen, hygiene stuff, etc.)

Of course, remember to pack your personal stuff such as sunscreen, hygiene stuff, repellant, etc. These things are provided at the hotels and resorts already, but for kids and those with sensitive skin, using your own is better.

An internet-connected phone and camera

To keep connected with the world outside, make sure your phone is accessible to the internet. With the internet, you can easily keep in touch with other people, use Google Maps, or instantly share a photo on your social networks.   Besides, for photography enthusiasts, a good camera is necessary to make sure you won’t miss any beautiful scenery during your Thailand Cambodia Vietnam tour.

A culturally respectful attitude

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. You should be culturally respectful whenever and wherever you go. These countries have their distinctive customs and etiquette; thus, make sure you acknowledge them and follow their tradition so as not to behave offensively.

A smile and an eagerness to travel

Last but not least, pack your eagerness to travel. With a willingness to go and to try, everything during your vacation would be much more joyful and memorable. Hang on a smile, and every problems, difficulties, and hesitation will be resolved. In contrast, if you hold a negative attitude, then your trip will no longer be enjoyable.
