The French Connection: Paris Tours and Beyond

When you conjure the ultimate Parisian scene in your head, do you imagine yourself sitting at an outdoor café, sipping coffee and perhaps munching on a freshly baked pain au chocolate? That image is a cliché for a reason. But don’t worry; most of us imagine the exact same thing.

Everyone wants a taste of the authentic Paris, or London, or Rome, or whichever destination you plan to visit. And there are so many guides and insider tips to getting said authentic experience that it should be a challenge to fail at it. At the end of the day, it’s your trip and you should do as you please. Don’t let fear of being “touristy” stop you.

Paris tours won’t be complete without tagging the not-to-miss items on the list. A Hop-on Hop-off Paris Pass along the River Seine is one of the best ways to do it. Get to the Paris tourist attractions of your choice in a fun, relaxed way via this boat cruise. You want to see the Eiffel Tower, Musée d’Orsay, Montmartre, and the Louvre Museum? Done. Those and many more sights are convenient stops along the river. And that’s not all; the dinner cruise on the River Seine is a fantastic way to experience the romantic nighttime view of the City of Light.

Un Peu Plus, S’il Vous Plaît

But there is so much more to France . And since you’re already in Paris, why not get a taste of the neighboring regions? Day tours from Paris abound.

• If the bouquet of vineyards and the fields of lavender and sunflowers call to you, or if you just want to see what true Provençal style is (a.k.a. French country style), then answer with a Provence day tour .

• Does Mickey have a French accent? Are their castles more authentic-looking? If you’re curious about how the European counterparts match up or you just want to give the kids a reprieve from serious sightseeing, then maybe a visit to Disneyland Paris is in order.

Following an exciting morning in the corridors of the gallery, regenerate your energy with lunch in the museum, before moving towards the Palais Garnier district, the Opera House of Paris . You can then have a French 4-class dinner and show experience or have time to shop at the legendary Galleries Lafayette department stores.

Some participants of the tour have to say goodbye to new friends and some will prefer to stay in this French town of delights another night before taking up the other tour on the line the next day.

Epicurean paris, paris: things to do in the city of lights, finding value at costco travel, more about paris.

Ah, Paris, the city of life, love, and light. From the Eiffel Tower to the Mona Lisa, from the bustling Champs Elysées to the winding streets of Montmartre, you'll find magic, romance, and history as you sip a café au lait, stroll manicured parks, and watch the sun set over the Seine. The home to some 2 million people, Paris could take you multiple lifetimes to explore from top to bottom—and that's not counting the Louvre. Happily, the métro system is extremely efficient and will aid you in see-and-flee sight-seeing. But to truly savor Paris's heady parfum, opt for the bus, or even better, your feet. In no time at all, you'll be strolling like a true Parisian from the arty Rive Gauche (Left Bank) to the regal Rive Droite (Right Bank).

The major tourist season in France stretches from Easter to mid-September, but Paris has much to offer in every season. If you're dreaming of Paris in the springtime, May is your best bet, not rainy March and April—regardless of what some songs say about the latter. Paris in the early spring can be disappointingly damp, though it's relatively tourist-free; May and June are delightful, with good weather and plenty of cultural and other attractions. July and August can be sultry, stuffy, and uncomfortable. Early autumn is ideal. Cultural life revives after the summer break, and sunny weather often continues through the first half of October. The ballet and theater are in full swing in November. The weather is part wet and cold, part bright and sunny.

Top Experiences

Eiffel Tower : Built in 1889 for the World’s Fair, this iron structure is one of the most visited monuments in the world. There is a bird’s eye view of Paris from the top and there are two restaurants in the lower structure.

Cruise the Seine : Many monuments of the city can be seen from a leisurely cruise along the river. At night is especially beautiful as the monuments are lighted and gives a very different perspective.

Louvre Museum : An historic landmark, one of the most visited museums in the world, home to Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo, over 300,000 objects are housed inside from all corners of the globe.

Café Society : The ultimate expression of French culture, sit in a sidewalk café and sip on a coffee while watching the world bustle past. Perhaps enjoy some pastries or macarons also.

Musee D’Orsay : Housed in a former train station, the space is light filled from skylights. Not as large as the Louvre, houses an impressive collection of Impressionist works.

Arc de Triomphe with Champs Elysees : The arc is one of the most famous monuments of the city and lies at the center of the convergence of twelve avenues. It is home to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from WWI, with an eternal flame. The Champs Elysees is an avenue that stretches just over a mile. It is known for luxury shopping and hosts the finish of the Tour de France bicycle race.

Several events will take place the following day, including women's soccer , handball and archery. The Games do not officially start until the opening ceremony on Friday, July 26 .

Typically, athletes march into a venue during the Olympics' opening ceremony. This year, however, athletes will float down the Seine River on barges.

The river parade will span nearly 4 miles, starting at the Austerlitz bridge, going past two islands (the Île Saint Louis and the Île de la Cité) and ending near the Trocadéro. This year's format − taking place outside a stadium − marks a first in the Olympics' history .

When do the Olympics end?

If you miss the opening ceremony, you still have 16 days to watch the Games.

The last day of the 2024 Paris Olympics is Sunday, Aug. 11 . There will be 13 gold medal events, including men's water polo, women's volleyball and the women's marathon final.

The closing ceremony will wrap up the Games on the same day, taking place at the Stade de France .

Where are the Olympics?

A majority of this year's Olympic events will be held in Paris. This is the third time the French capital has hosted the Summer Games, having previously hosted in 1924 and 1900 .

The Games will be held at various venues. This includes the triathlon and marathon swimming events at the Seine River , the equestrian and modern pentathlon events at the Château de Versailles and the surfing events in Teahupo'o, Tahiti .

In total, the 2024 Paris Olympics has 35 venues .

How many sports in the 2024 Olympics?

There are 32 sports at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

One new sport was added to the lineup: breaking , commonly known as breakdancing.

Three events that debuted at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics will return at the Paris Games: Climbing, skateboarding and surfing.
