Vedder introduced Watt, sharing the story of how the producer met Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready many years ago at the same venue and asked for career advice, which he followed “for about six weeks.” "He’s the reason why I’m here with you and these songs exist," Vedder said of Watt.

Before the encore he alluded to the pandemic, noting he had faced “a number of hurdles and challenges” to complete and release the record and make it to the stage. “I meant to ask about you, too,” he told the crowd. “I’m sure it wasn’t easy to get in this room tonight. So I’m happy!”

Eddie Vedder Announces 2022 U.S. Tour With New Band the Earthlings

  • By Andy Greene

Andy Greene

Eddie Vedder is hitting the road in February to support his upcoming LP Earthling , and he’s bringing along his new band the Earthlings. The group includes Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney, former Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, guitarist/vocalist Glen Hansard, and guitarist Andrew Watt.

The tour kicks off Feb. 3rd at the Beacon Theater in New York City and wraps up Feb. 22 at Benaroya Hall in Seattle. Tickets are being sold through Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan Registration system. Click here for more information.

Eddie Vedder and the Earthlings made their live debut Sept. 25 at the Ohana Festival in Dana Point, California. Their set featured a handful of Vedder originals (“I’ll Be Waiting,” “Tender Mercies”) along with numerous classic rock covers (The Who’s “I’m One,” the Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go”), and a few Pearl Jam tunes (“Better Man,” “Corduroy.”)

This time around, expect to hear a few more songs from Earthling , which arrives on Feb. 11. It’s Vedder’s first solo alum since 2011’s Ukulele Songs , and it was produced by Andrew Watt.

The tour is a mere eight shows because the band members need to return to their day jobs not long after it wraps. The Red Hot Chili Peppers begin their reunion tour with John Frusciante on June 4 in Seville, Spain, and Pearl Jam start a European tour two weeks later at the Pinkpop Festival in the Netherlands. They’re also going to announce makeup dates for their aborted 2020 American arena tour, which may take place before they head to Europe.

Eddie Vedder Officially Kicks Off “Earthlings Tour” at NYC’s Beacon Theater: Recap + Setlist

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

The post Eddie Vedder Officially Kicks Off “Earthlings Tour” at NYC’s Beacon Theater: Recap + Setlist appeared first on Consequence .

Has anybody ever successfully covered a Tom Petty song? It’s a serious question. Despite the sturdiness of his material, it’s hard to name an inspired rendition — even after an inundation of “Wildflowers” covers after Petty’s too-young death. That said, Eddie Vedder — a close friend of Petty’s — came closer than ever on February 3rd at NYC’s gilded Beacon Theater.

But he didn’t reach for low-hanging fruit, like “Don’t Do Me Like That” or “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around.” Instead, the Pearl Jam bandleader — backed by his new band the Earthlings — covered “Room at the Top,” the opener from Petty’s for-real-ones-only 1999 album with the Heartbreakers, Echo .

This relatively deep cut seems to sum up Vedder’s place in the rock landscape, both in its context and content. Echo was Petty’s “divorce” and “heroin” record — and while neither is applicable to Vedder at the moment, the deaths of his half-brother, Chris Mueller, and close friend, Chris Cornell, came in a one-two punch and knocked him off his axis .

Unlike grunge colleagues Cornell, Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, and Andrew Wood, though, Vedder made it, intact and happy — and Thursday’s gig was a heartening reminder of that. (Vedder and his Earthlings played a private show at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester on February 1st; this concert served as the official tour kickoff.)

Not only is Pearl Jam going strong after more than 30 years, with the underrated Gigaton in the immediate rearview. Vedder remains creatively vibrant in his own right, with Earthling , his first solo album since 2011’s Ukulele Songs (out February 11th). Plus, with Omicron on the retreat, he gets to kick out the jams with two of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The Chilis in question are guitarist Josh Klinghoffer — who left pre-pandemic and was replaced by a returning John Frusciante — and drummer Jack Irons, who joined Pearl Jam for 1996’s No Code and left after 1998’s Yield . (The latter just celebrated its 24th anniversary; Vedder incorrectly shouted it out as being 25.)

Editor's Pick

With Earthling, Eddie Vedder Becomes a Rock Elder

Rounding out the Earthlings are guitarist Andrew Watt, who produced the album; bassist Chris Chaney, who hails from Jane’s Addiction; and Glen Hansard , who you may remember as the sensitive busker from the 2007 film Once .

Hansard opened the show, ably commanding the audience with just an acoustic guitar and some well-employed effects. His lapsings into full-bore screaming wore thin after a few tunes — maybe that’s just a side effect of trying to work a room of that size.

Still, hearing “Falling Slowly” — you know, the one that goes “I don’t know you/ But I want you” — after (possibly) more than a decade gave the audience palpable fuzzy emotions. Thankfully, Hansard didn’t overstay his welcome, emotively slugging out some solo and Frames tunes before exiting stage left.

The time-warp vibe continued as Vedder and his comrades took the stage, and not just because the audience screamed, “I graduated high school in 1992.” (Props to a colleague in the press section for that observation.) With his Earthlings, he opened with not one, not two, but three covers, all of which can ostensibly be found in any karaoke songbook in America.

Those were R.E.M.’s “Drive,” which Vedder inhabited beautifully; the aforementioned Petty cover; and the Beatles’ “Here Comes the Sun.” In the latter, Vedder couldn’t resist making a mildly cringe-y 2022 update: “I feel that ice is quickly melting.”

Sure, these were obvious picks, but that choice was nobler than buttering up the audience with selections from you-know-who. In the midsection of the setlist, the Earthlings tried out a good chunk of their titular album.

This ranged from the lackluster and generically uplifting “Invincible” to the fantastic “Fallout Today,” which boasts a craggy melody and philosophical vibe. Somewhere in between, quality-wise, were “The Dark,” “The Haves,” and “Long Way” — not to be confused with Pearl Jam’s “Take the Long Way,” whether or not it’s meant to be a sequel.

After the showcase of new tunes for fans — besides “The Haves,” almost nobody outside of journalists had heard these — the Earthlings hurtled back into cover-band mode (including Patti Smith and Pretenders covers), with a few Pearl Jam songs sprinkled therein.

Without the muscle of his main band, “Porch” fell flat; however, “Better Man” sparkled on the merits of just being a sublime pop song. “Wishlist,” from Yield , came close, although the accelerated tempo didn’t do it any favors — nor do the lyrics, which include an embarrassing line about a Christmas tree.

But after a muscular rendition of “All Along the Watchtower,” any misgivings with the gig melted away: it’s arresting to watch Vedder smilingly rock out in a gorgeous sold-out theater with old friends, after so much time off as a solo act and two years of interminable pandemic doldrums.

What more could a musician ask for? Despite the insanity and grief and elation that come with such a long and complicated career, he had a room at the top of the world — and he ain’t coming down.

Vedder plays the Beacon Theatre again tonight (February 4th). Tickets for that date, and the rest of the tour, are available via Ticketmaster .

Eddie Vedder’s ‘Earthlings Tour’ Makes Triumphant First Contact At The Beacon [Photos/Videos]

Eddie Vedder officially opened his nine-show The Earthlings Tour on Thursday at New York City’s famed Beacon Theatre . With all the fanfare and excitement worthy of one of the world’s most recognizable rock icons, there has been heavy buzz for these shows, especially ahead of Eddie’s third solo album, Earthling , which is due to release on February 11th via Seattle Surf / Republic Records . This comes over a decade since Vedder’s sophomore solo release, 2011’s Ukelele Songs , precipitated by his solo debut with the Into The Wild  soundtrack in 2007.

A private rehearsal show at The Capitol Theatre in Portchester, NY notwithstanding, this marked Mr. Vedder’s first New York show since Pearl Jam was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Brooklyn in April 2017 and a proper Madison Square Garden twofer in April 2016 before that. Last night also marked the first public indoor show for Pearl Jam’s iconic frontman since pre-COVID (July 17, 2018 at the O2 Arena in London, England).

As he will for the duration of the tour, Glen Hansard , one of the most endearing and authentic musicians you’re ever likely to see, performed the opening set. From the very first notes, Glen defined the term “all-in”, bringing to life the personal charm and warmth that typifies his Irish brogue. With a rare ability to transport his listeners to another time and place, Glen always takes his audience for a ride and it’s usually to the backroom of a small Irish pub.

The set was highlighted by a rousing rendition of “Falling Slowly”, the Academy Award-winning song he wrote, composed, and performed with Markéta Irglová for the film Once . Straining to make the room smaller and be closer to his audience, toward the end of his set Glen literally broke free from the wire tethering his acoustic guitar and the mics amplifying his voice, finishing his set whilst standing atop a stage monitor, acoustic guitar in hand, singing and playing to a sold-out Beacon without amplification.

The stage was minimally adorned: billowing white curtains flowing behind a drum riser and twin mannequins clad in A-line midi skirts with blouses to match adorned as ’50s cocktail waitresses, with garish headwear featuring an array of twenty or more bowling pins fashioned in the manner of a peacock’s tail. As the crowd was left to ponder the meaning (or lack thereof) behind the stage setup, the PA filled the airwaves with a ’70s lounge singer crooning “I’m on my way.”

Being in New York, semi-obvious first thoughts went to Frank Sinatra though I quickly realized that this was the voice of Edward Louis Severson, Jr. , Eddie Vedder’s father, now deceased for over 40 years but joining us from beyond the grave with the same cameo dubbed into Earthling’s final track, “On My Way”. For those now in the know, prepare to be shaken in the very best way by this most haunting and poignant moment.

Eddie Vedder and his new backing band  The Earthlings were met with thunderous applause as they made their way to the stage under cover of this most wistful and evocative track. The band opened with a trio of covers: R.E.M. ’s “Drive” (released by Vedder on the Flag Day soundtrack last summer), “Room At The Top”, a deep cut from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers , and The Beatles ’ “Here Comes The Sun”.

Band and audience alike now suitably warmed up, Eddie Vedder would begin to showcase his new material as the set’s final 14 songs would include ten of 13 tracks from the still-unreleased Earthling  and two each from both Flag Day and Pearl Jam. The crowd stayed warm as “The Haves” got the debuts rolling comfortably, one of just three new tracks that the audience at large had the chance to sample as one of Earthling ’s lead singles, playing very much like a heartfelt tearjerker as Eddie crooned under a spotlight at the edge of the stage with his all-star band arrayed behind him: Andrew Watt (guitar), Josh Klinghoffer (guitar, formerly of Red Hot Chili Peppers), Glen Hansard (guitar), Chris Chaney (bass, Jane’s Addiction), and Chad Smith (drums, Red Hot Chili Peppers). The Vedder/Hansard-penned “I’ll Be Waiting” followed.

“Invincible” was the first song of the evening that anyone without press credentials heard for the first time and it was met with widespread approval as many fans even managed to sing along by song’s end, the David Byrne -esque rocker feeling very much the logical continuation of Vedder’s songwriting on the heels of Pearl Jam’s most recent Gigaton . “The Dark”, “Power Of Right”, and “Fallout Today” debuted similarly, putting on display The Earthlings’ prowess while letting fans know that thematically Earthling is very much the middle ground between Pearl Jam’s alt-rock edge and Vedder’s singer/songwriter Americana.

Earthling ’s lead single, “Long Way” was extremely well received and notably more impactful live than in the studio, as is often the case. Another duet with Hansard followed with Flag Day ’s second selection, “Tender Mercies”. As Eddie would next inform the crowd, two albums dropped on the same day 25 years hence: David Bowie ’s Earthling and Pearl Jam’s Yield . Admitting that the album title was a realized-too-late type of coincidence and with no desire to upstage or outdo Mr. Bowie, Eddie et. al. then honored Yield with a reading of “Wishlist”, hitting all the right feelings even amidst all the wrong lyrics. (Note: Eddie’s math was a bit off, as  Yield  was released in 1998 and  Earthling  in 1997, though both still on February 3rd.)

Ever the storyteller, the next song in the queue got Eddie started on the topic of suicide and depression as he readied the band for Earthling ’s third and final single, “Brother The Cloud”. A tale of loss and longing, and perhaps an obvious reference to the climbing death of Eddie’s half-brother Chris Mueller in 2016, this reading felt more like an ode to fallen musical brother Chris Cornell , lost to suicide in 2017, especially as Eddie slammed his mic stand and screamed the song’s all-encompassing sentiment in the face of such senseless loss, “Fuck you!”

With heartfelt appreciation, Eddie thanked the inimitable Chad Smith, standing in on drums for Ringo Starr who has the album credits on the Beatles-esque tune “Mrs. Mills”, one of the album’s lighter tracks. A second stand-in of sorts would follow, as famed rock photographer and local NYC musician Danny Clinch would fill Stevie Wonder ’s cameo on harmonica during a reading of “Try”.

A short drum solo led into the penultimate “Rose Of Jericho”, another little banger that gave way to the set-closing Pearl Jam favorite “Porch”. Though decidedly different in feel with a different band behind him–and with lyrical accuracy still at a premium–Eddie and company sent the storied Beacon into a tizzy as Watt continued to impress with his guitar prowess.

The debut portion of the evening now behind us, a short break gave way to a five-song encore set that kicked off with a cover of the Pretenders ’ “Precious”. Perhaps my favorite moment of the night would follow, as I was seated a few spots away from Mrs. Eddie Vedder and was able to share in her joy as she smiled and danced and sang along with some of Pearl Jam’s most recognizable lyrics … can’t find a better man! “Better Man” segued into Patti Smith ’s “People Have The Power” without pause before the evening’s second George Harrison cover, “Isn’t It A Pity”. Up against curfew, the band squeezed in a compact but robust cover of Bob Dylan ’s “All Along The Watchtower”.

Eddie Vedder, the Earthlings, and everyone in the room on Thursday were in all their glory as the tour’s first show was powerful and magnificent, a singular mulligan and a few misplaced lyrics having no ill effects whatsoever. This all-star troupe performed together for just the second time ever last night (fourth if you count two shows at Ohana with a slightly different lineup) and you can certainly expect the band to improve with each successive night as these shows also function as live rehearsals. Having been one of the few lucky enough to preview Earthling , I can unabashedly say that these songs reach the full weight of both their intention and their potential in the live setting.

Eddie Vedder The Earthlings Tour continues with a second sold-out show at the Beacon Theater tonight, February 4th, before visiting just five more cities with only seven more shows, culminating with a pair of shows in Seattle’s famed Benaroya Hall . Eddie Vedder delivers old-time alt-rock with newfound fervor and Earthlings

The veteran pearl jam frontman is out on solo road trek ahead of the release of a new album later this week..

Eddie Vedder performs at the Auditorium Theatre on Wednesday night in the first of two dates at the Chicago venue.

Eddie Vedder performs at the Auditorium Theatre on Wednesday night in the first of two dates at the Chicago venue.

Tyler LaRiviere/Sun-Times

In the 30-plus years that Eddie Vedder has been a part of the rock music pantheon, he’s played a full cast of characters on stage. There’s been the unhinged banshee that made early Lollapalooza appearances look like stunt double tryouts; the eager Cubs fan who got to live out his field of dreams headlining Wrigley Field; and the emotional wild card that flipped the script on “MTV Unplugged.” Yet, on Wednesday night at the Auditorium Theatre — the first of two nights in a short run of solo shows — Vedder was simply a singer-songwriter in his element.

The rare appearance sans the members of Pearl Jam, served as a sounding board for Vedder’s latest solo material, before his new record “Earthling” hits streets on Friday. Though the wide-spanning performance on this night was bookended by a curated assortment of covers, Vedder devoted the meaty midsection to previewing nine of the 13 new tracks that show his ever-growing range.

Standouts included the album’s lead-off track “Invincible” with its cosmic lo-fi sheen, the winding Americana ballad “Long Way,” and the fast-paced surf rock number “Try” (with Stevie Wonder supplying harmonica on the album version). Perhaps the most evocative, though, was the alt rock in memoriam, “Brother The Cloud,” which many have assumed was written about his late Seattle comrade Chris Cornell, though Vedder has yet to confirm it.

For now, the brief tour jaunt only includes six cities. The idea, Vedder said, came out of working in the studio with his supergroup backing band The Earthlings, who made their debut at his Ohana Festival last September and have been a huge asset on the new material. The troupe is comprised of Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith as well as former RHCP guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney, The Frames/Swell Season talent Glen Hansard on guitar and vocals, as well as newcomer guitarist Andrew Watt who, up until now, has been a well-known producer for Top 40 pop stars but will soon earn a reputation as a bonafide shredder.

Eddie Vedder (front) and The Earthlings — Andrew Watt (from left), Josh Klinghoffer and Chad Smith on drums — perform on Wednesday night at the Auditorium Theatre.

“Watching these guys create and perform in the studio together, we had to get it out on the road,” Vedder said at one point. And this night’s show quickly took on that persona, akin to watching the sextet jam together out of their garage. Being a fly on the wall in this setting felt just as special, even though the two-and-a-half-hour set was a bit slow to start, coming out of the gates with four covers that were maybe too much of a prolonged jam session. But when the group got their footing, they showed true chemistry.

Such was the case with “I’ll Be Waiting,” the song that Vedder and Hansard contributed to the soundtrack of “Flag Day,” which begs for the pair to do more duets. Even when The Earthlings took on Pearl Jam numbers like “Not For You” and “Porch,” they delivered them with the same bombast that fans have come to expect from Vedder’s other brothers in arms. It’s not an easy task, considering the rabid fandom for the purity of the ‘90s mainstays. Yet, while the outliers might naturally be drawn to make comparisons — the age-old dilemma for well-known frontmen that go solo — the thing is, if you’re someone like Eddie Vedder, you don’t just help define a generation and go softly into the night. You keep evolving, keep creating and keep hoping people come back for more.

And for him, they always do. Especially in Chicago where the Evanston-reared artist fits into our allegiance complex, where people always want to root Vedder on. Especially as he regales with insider stories about the Skokie Swift CTA line and seeing his first concert at the same Auditorium Theatre (Bruce Springsteen in 1977), then calling out Chris Chelios in the crowd and name-checking Ernie Banks during a brief moment of soliloquy.

Opening the show was Hansard, giving every fiber of his being in delivering “Falling Slowly” and “When Your Mind’s Made Up,” from the hit movie and Broadway show, “Once.” Though he was without his Swell Season partner Marketa Irglova, it was a great preview for when they return next month at Cadillac Palace Theater for a special one-off. Not surprisingly, at the conclusion of the five-song set, Hansard received a well-earned standing ovation.

It was a response that would be repeated again by the night’s conclusion as Vedder and crew did good on their promise to try and “make history” for the young first-timers spotted in the front row, in a show that was anything but “boring.” If only Nikki Sixx had been there to see it.

About Eddie Vedder Eddie Vedder has served as Pearl Jam’s frontman, in addition to a guitarist and primary lyricist, since 1990. Inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017 as a member of Pearl Jam, Vedder’s trademark vocal style inspired a generation. His energetic and unvarnished stage presence coupled with his honest conversations with the audience led Pearl Jam as pioneers in live performances and social justice.

Vedder’s signature ethos carries into his solo work. His first project came out in 2007 with the soundtrack album for the film  Into the Wild  and earned him a Golden Globe for the song “Guaranteed.” In 2012, Vedder’s sophomore solo album,   Ukulele Songs , received a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album. Most recently, he collaborated with Glen Hansard for the  Flag Day  Original Motion Picture soundtrack and has released tracks off his forthcoming solo album  Earthling .

Eddie Vedder was born in Evanston, Ill., on December 23, 1964 where he became a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan before moving with his family to San Diego County in the mid-1970s. It was in southern California that Vedder began to play guitar and learned to surf.

Eddie Vedder

In 1990, Vedder received a tape of a band from Seattle that needed a singer. Vedder wrote lyrics for three of the songs, mailed it back to Seattle, and the songs ultimately became the Pearl Jam songs “Alive”, “Footsteps” and “Once”. Vedder moved north and was recruited by Ament, Gossard and McCready to join their new band, known then as Mookie Blaylock before becoming Pearl Jam.

Vedder’s lyrics address many of the key issues of our times including gun violence, racism, and climate change. In addition to the activism inherent to the music, Vedder is an outspoken advocate for several progressive, social, and political causes, most notably abortion access and the environment. A longtime supporter of Surfrider Foundation, Vedder has most recently been vocal in banning offshore drilling along the US coast.

“Though some may think there should be a separation between art, music and politics, it should be reinforced that art can be a form of nonviolent protest,” Vedder says.

In addition to his activism, Vedder and his wife Jill McCormick Vedder co-founded the EB Research Partnership, dedicated to finding a cure for epidermolysis bullosa, a family of rare genetic disorders that affects the skin. The Vedder family is active in supporting both the work of the organization and the children who are impacted by the disorder.

Vedder and his wife reside in Seattle with their two daughters.

Eddie Vedder Included His Late Father’s Vocals on His New Solo Album

Pearl Jam 's  Eddie Vedder  has unveiled the track listing for his upcoming solo album, Earthling , of which listeners have already had the chance to hear singles " Long Way " and " The Haves ." And around the same time, the rock singer shared an interesting story about how his late father's vocals appear on the album.

Diehard Pearl Jam fans know well the story of Vedder's biological dad, Edward Louis Severson Jr., whom Vedder grew up believing wasn't his real father. (The tale's illustrated on Ten hit "Alive.") Severson was also something of a musician himself back in the day.

See  Earthling 's track list — and listen to the latest  Earthling  single, "Brother the Cloud," released on Friday (Jan. 14) — down toward the bottom of this post.

"I didn't really get to know my real father," Vedder told  Mojo  in the magazine's March issue, as Louder  pointed out. "I met him maybe three or four times as a kid, but he was a friend of the family."

The Pearl Jam vocalist continued, "But the crazy thing that did happen was that about 10 years ago, the Chicago Cubs, some of their old-timers get together and play baseball for about a week. And I would go down there every other year and hang. … One of the ex-players, this erudite, badass trumpeter — he used to play third base — his name is Carmen Fanzone."

Vedder added, "I saw Carmen playing the horn in a little club in Arizona, and this guy playing keyboards with him had been best friends with my dad. He later brought me some photos of them in little basement studios. Then a couple of years after that, he brought me five songs of my dad singing on a disc. I carried that disc around for two, three months in my suitcase, not ready to hear it. Finally, I got the guts, and after a couple of bottles of wine, I played it one night in Argentina."

And just what did the Pearl Jam singer think? "He was good," the musician said of his father's singing. "It was incredible — like he left a message for me."

Severson's vocals are assembled into a sort of "collage" near the end of the album. He's not the only guest, though — Earthling  also includes all-star appearances from Ringo Starr, Elton John and Stevie Wonder, as well as instrumental backing from Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chad Smith and ex-RHCP guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, who's now a touring member of Pearl Jam.

On top of that, the baseball connection also holds importance for Vedder, as he’s a big Cubs fan who's performed multiple times at Wrigley Field.

Unfortunately, Severson died before Vedder got the chance to know him well, having only spent those few times with him. That's when the future rock star still believed Severson was a family friend and that Peter Mueller, his stepdad, was his real dad.

Earthling  arrives on Feb. 11. Vedder worked with producer Andrew Watt (Ozzy Osbourne) on the LP, his first solo effort since 2011's Ukulele Songs . Pre-order it  here . Vedder will tour in 2022 .

The band played a 25-song set at the Rogers Arena, including a total of nine tracks from their recently-released 12th album, seven of which graced a setlist for the first time ever.

Also played at the show were early classics including ‘Alive’, ‘Black’ and ‘Daughter’, as well as deeper cuts like ‘Leatherman’, at the request of drummer Matt Cameron, and covers of Neil Young ’s ‘Rockin’ in the Free World’, Tom Petty ’s ‘I Won’t Back Down’ and Mother Love Bone’s ‘Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns’.

The Seattle band announced the tour back in February , and it will continue around North America for the rest of May, before heading to Europe and the UK. NME  gave ‘Dark Matter’  a glowing four-star review , and praised it as “some of their strongest work in recent memory”.

“For those longing for the charismatic songwriting that first put the band on the map over three decades ago, ‘Dark Matter’ will come as a pleasant surprise,” it read. “Not only does it showcase Pearl Jam reclaiming the charm that first made them a force to be reckoned with back in 1991, it comes alongside some of their most impressive musicianship yet, as well as a determination to take risks after years of playing it safe.”

Eddie Vedder recently said that  he thinks the band have “one or two” good records left in them  after ‘Dark Matter’.

“The older you get the better you are at living in the present,” he said. “The understanding you have less time is the biggest number in the quotient. The goal is to keep making music.”

The band’s drummer Matt Cameron has also been speaking about the time that he received a cease-and-desist letter from KISS as a teenager .

Eddie Vedder Tour 2024

Eddie Vedder tour 2024 announced : Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder and his new solo band The Earthlings will embark on their first tour in early 2022, starting on February 3-4 at the Beacon Theatre in New York. The eight-concert tour, Vedder's first solo tour of the United States since 2012, will support his upcoming solo album, The Earthling, which will be released on February 11 via Seattle Surf/Republic.

As previously reported, Earthlings debuted live on September 24 at Vedder's Ohana Festival in Dana Point, California. The band features guitarist Andrew Watt (who also produced "Earthling"), multi-instrumentalists Josh Klinghoffer and Glen Hansard, and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. The Who's bassist Pino Palladino played with the Earthlings at Ohana, but due to scheduling issues he will be replaced on the 2022 tour by Jane's Addiction bassist Chris Chaney.

At Ohana, the Earthlings performed two Earthling songs ("Long Way," which is No. 10 on the Billboard Adult Alternative Airplay chart this week, and "The Haves"), played a handful of Pearl Jam songs ("Porch," "Corduroy"), and experimented with covers of the Pretenders' "Precious," Pete Townshend's "Give Blood" and the Clash's "Should I Stay or Should I Go," among others. Vedder has also performed several solo songs, including songs from the soundtrack of the 2007 Golden Globe-winning film Into the Wild.

Eddie Vedder will be touring in February to promote his forthcoming album Earthling and will be bringing his new band The Earthlings with him. The band will feature Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, bassist for Jane's Addiction Chris Chaney, former Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, guitarist/vocalist Glen Hansard and guitarist Andrew Watt.

Eddie Vedder and the Earthlings made their live debut on September 25 at the Ohana Festival in Dana Point, California. Their set included a handful of Vedder originals ("I'll Be Waiting," "Tender Mercies"), as well as several classic rock covers (The Who's "I'm One," The Clash's "Should I Stay or Should I Go") and a few Pearl Jam songs ("Better Man," "Corduroy"). The tour kicks off on February 3 at the Beacon Theater in New York City and ends on February 22 at Benaroya Hall in Seattle. Eddie Vedder 2024 tickets are sold on this site.

Pearl Jam kicked off their Dark Matter Tour on Saturday, May 4, with a ton of live debuts from their new album, deep cuts and covers from two fallen friends.

The Seattle band started the tour about 150 miles north in Vancouver, Canada, at the sold out Rogers Arena where Justin Timberlake began his latest outing earlier in the week.

Instead of a magical floating stage , Pearl Jam relied on a diverse set of 25 tunes across seven of their studio LPs -- and a giant video screen behind them.

eddie vedder earthling tour setlist

Being it was the tour kickoff supporting a new collection of tunes, and given those new songs are tearing up the rock charts, PJ treated the 19,000 Canucks to debuts of "React, Respond," "Wreckage," "Dark Matter," "Upper Hand," "Won't Tell," and "Something Special."

They even closed with the live debut of the aptly titled, "Setting Sun."

eddie vedder earthling tour setlist

If you were to describe Pearl Jam, which box would you put them in? Alternative, Grunge, College Alternative, Mainstream Rock, Pop?

Billboard considers them, among other genres, Hard Rock, curiously.

Because of that, nine of the Top 25 tracks of the Hot Hard Rock Songs are from Dark Matter .

eddie vedder earthling tour setlist

No disrespect to the magazine, but what makes "Wreckage," the #1 hard rock song on their list this week, hard ?

Shouldn't words mean something?

It's a good song, no doubt, and probably the most accessible of the three singles they've released from the new album, but there's not really a riff, a piercing solo, or an edge that would make anyone think "ah yes, now that's some kick ass hard rock."

The lyrics, though, do have a hint of an edge. Singer Eddie Vedder told The Times UK the song is about the only POTUS to have been impeached twice and the frightening notion that he may soon win a second term.

But like most of his songs, Vedder is far more subtle than his interviews

I'm needing for the light Stormy is the grey Rivers overflowing Drowning all our yesterdays

Speaking of scary, during the Ten -era "Porch," guitarist Mike McCready fell off the new stage. Perhaps its matter was too dark?

According to a Twitter user who claims to have been nearby (but uploaded zero photos or videos, tsk tsk), the stage was to blame, not the rocker.

"I was on the rail in front of him. He didn’t fall off the stage. He fell into an opening where a camera was coming out of. Brutal stage setup. He didn’t look ok after but soldiered on," @jonprosser tweeted . "True pro. Amazing show."

Right before the guitarist took a spill, the band played a tune that may have brought a tear to the eye of those of a certain age when they paid tribute to Mother Love Bone with "Chloe Dancer / Crown of Thorns."

Bassist Jeff Ament and guitarist Stone Gossard were in MLB up until its singer, Andrew Wood, died tragically in March of 1990 of a heroin overdose. He was just 24.

Pearl Jam was formed in the wake of that tragedy when Vedder joined the band of Ament, Gossard, McCready, and drummer Dave Krusen. Matt Cameron, who has played with both PJ and Soundgarden is the current and longest serving drummer.

Vedder gave Cameron a shoutout at the Rogers Arena before they began "React, Respond," which is as close to hard rock as Dark Matter gets. Which isn't a diss.

Pearl Jam are Gen X intellectuals approaching the big 6-0 and while their new album and how it translates on stage, definitely rocks, there's no need to add much more to that definition. And that's fine.

We need rock music today more than ever. Especially the type these gentlemen play, whatever you want to call it.

PJ plays a second gig tonight in BC, then they head down the west coast including two nights at the Forum in LA and a slot at Bottle Rock in Napa. Then it's two nights in their home field of Seattle before taking a few weeks off and heading to Europe.

When they return to the States, the band will rock Vedder's home town of Chicago and the friendly confines of Wrigley Field with other gigs at Madison Square Garden and Boston's Fenway Park.

The lyrics, though, do have a hint of an edge. Singer Eddie Vedder told The Times UK the song is about the only POTUS to have been impeached twice and the frightening notion that he may soon win a second term. But like most of his songs, Vedder is far more subtle than his interviews
