A jungle theme is a common kiddie party theme because there’s just something about animals in the wild that children find cool, mysterious, and amazing. Don’t get me wrong, the theme works for grownups, too. Contrary to popular belief, there are several ways to go about a jungle cake. This list of unique safari and jungle cake ideas will show you.

Having planned several jungle-themed parties for my nephews and friends in the past, I would admit that it can be a real struggle to find a cake that’s unique and different. That’s because when we talk about a jungle cake, we always picture the same elements: animals, trees, leaves, and a color palette that’s mainly brown and green. It’s almost always the same animals, too: lion, giraffe, elephant, and probably a monkey.

The good thing is that you can go for a jungle theme and veer away from the jungle cake cliché because there are some unique jungle cake ideas you can get inspiration from.

My Bottom Line Up Front

A jungle-themed cake is not just for little kids. Grownups, who love nature and animals, would appreciate a jungle cake, too. I would prefer something out of the usual fondant jungle cake with gum paste animals. I’d go for a number cake with buttercream topped with a mix of jungle animal decorations and the usual meringues, chocolates, fruits, and macarons.

Narrowing Down Jungle Cake Ideas

Getting unique jungle cake ideas may be difficult because you would have to sift through so many of the more common ones. So to help you save time, I have done it for you. In selecting these cakes, I made sure they fit the jungle or safari theme or that they have elements representing some of our favorite jungle animals.

I also look for the uniqueness factor. This is the tricky bit because “unique” is relative and could mean different things to different people. For me, however, jungle cakes are unique if they fit any of these criteria:

  • They apply any modern cake decorating trend.
  • They stay away from the traditional fondant animal models.
  • They stay away from using plastic trees and animal toys as toppers or decorations.
  • They are more experimental and adventurous with the use of colors.
  • They don’t stick to the usual color palette of greens and browns.
  • They are more creative in the representation of animals or jungle life.

Jungle Cake Ideas

1. baby jungle cake.

Jungle cakes with fondant animals are quite common and ordinary. So, some cakemakers give it a new — and cuter — twist by modeling the jungle animals as baby animals. The foliage will be done in fondant, too.

This uber-cute first birthday cake has buttercream frosting with a baby lion, baby giraffe, baby monkey, and baby elephant that are finely modeled in fondant. The leaves provide the foliage for this cake.

Here’s another take on baby jungle animals. This fondant cake also has a baby for a safari tour on a jeep. The name on the base is painted in gold, which is pretty trendy these days.

This jungle cake has baby animals in fondant, but it doesn’t have the usual green foliage. Instead, the leaves are pink and brushed with gold on the sides.

2. Cake with Gold-painted Toys

I know that little toy animals are overused as jungle cake toppers. But if you want a unique and modern twist to this otherwise very common jungle cake decoration, paint it gold. Gold, after all, is a very stylish color these days.

This three-tier buttercream birthday cake takes the jungle theme to a higher level by spray-painting the toy animals’ gold. This makes the toys look less plastic and cheap and classy. To make things more interesting, the cakemaker also wrapped the middle tier with a leopard print wafer paper, then topped the cake with dried pampas grass — both of which are modern cake decorating tools.

3. Prehistoric Jungle

Well, if you’ve decided on a jungle theme for your birthday, it doesn’t have to be the jungle as we know it now. You can go back to prehistoric times!z

This vanilla and Nutella jungle cake shows us exactly what we mean when we say prehistoric, with a T-rex and some plastic foliage right on top of it. The T-rex even has a little party hat and bowtie on and is holding a balloon! The cakemaker also showcases their piping skills on this one. That acrylic name in front of the cake adds a touch of elegance and sophistication.

Here’s another take on the prehistoric jungle cake. This time, T-rex is accompanied by a stegosaurus on top. The green pipings are still there to add texture and more greens to an otherwise overly basic cake.

The cakemaker decided to paint the dinosaurs gold for this buttercream cake. There are synthetic leaves for foliage and pallet knife elements on the sides.

4. Quilt-style Jungle Cake

This cute safari or jungle cake has an expertly executed quilted effect, with the fondant animals and other decorative elements sporting “stitches,” thus making them look like they were sewn.

5. Colorful Jungle Cake

A jungle theme doesn’t have to be dominantly green and brown. Experiment with color combinations. Or you can apply the celebrant’s favorite colors.

This fondant jungle cake, for example, is dominantly pink. Some of the leavers, the balls, the elephant’s ears, and the monkey’s party hat are pink.

More colors aren’t a bad idea. That’s what this fondant cake proves. The flowers give this cake a much-needed touch of pinks and purples, plus there’s a little bit of blue added to an otherwise green palette.

Of course, you can do a jungle theme sparingly, and for a lilac or lavender cake at that. There’s not even a tinge of green in sight. This fondant cake also proves that even if you only have an elephant and a monkey, that’s already enough.

6. Number Jungle Cake

Number cakes are very popular and in vogue right now. These are cakes that are shaped in a number from the top view, which number represents the birthday celebrant’s age. So why not incorporate the two concepts and make a number cake with a jungle theme?

This number cake for a baby girl’s first birthday showcases lots of bright colors. It has colorful cream pipings in various shapes and sizes, fondant animal faces, and fondant leaves. Here’s another safari number cake , for a baby boy turning a year old. This cake has a more subdued color palette. The theme is carried out through cookies with iced animal illustrations, leopard print, and leaves.

Take a look at this safari number cake with yellow and green piping. The animals are made of macarons.

7. King of the Jungle Cake with Synthetic Foliage

If you want a jungle-themed cake but want to keep things simple and avoid overcrowding your cake with too many animals, then just pick one. There’s no better choice than the king of the jungle himself: the lion.

A toy lion was painted gold for this cake. And just so nobody makes any mistake about him being the king of the jungle, a gold crown is there on top of the cake with him. Add some plastic foliage for more depth and more greens, sprinkle gold, silver, and white balls, then paint the sides with green buttercream using a pallet knife.

Another cake with just the lion roaring away. This cake has the trendy palm leaf in gold foil, chocolate balls, dried grass and leaves, and palette knife painting.

8. Paper-crafted Animal Toppers

You may want to consider making paper-crafted jungle animals as cake toppers. All you need are color boards or specialized paper products, a pair of scissors, glue, and sticks. If you have a Cricut machine, that would be swell, too!

This cake has animal toppers made out of a textured board.

You can also go for printed paper animal cutouts, like the ones on this cake . It’s also nice that this cake has palette knife painting on the side using soft pastel colors.

Paper animal toppers like these also look very cute on a cake.

You can create paper animals and punch leaves for your foliage .

9. Fondant Foliage

While fondant animal figures aren’t exactly a new and different thing, you can still make your cake look modern and stylish by using trendy foliage. Monstera leaves, for example, are quite trendy these days.

10. Palm Leaf + Stencil

This cake uses a combination of modern decorating techniques to turn an otherwise common theme and make it more contemporary-looking. As you can see, the cakemaker used the usual toy animals, but to give it a unique twist, they added a gold palm leaf and a buttercream stencil design on the side.

How about a light blue, white, and gold buttercream cake with gold palm leaf and subtle stencil at the front ? The animals are your usual toys from the dollar store, but they’ve been painted gold.

11. Piped Animal Frosting

Who says your jungle cake has to be three-dimensional? It could still look totally cute with a 2D decoration. By 2D I mean piping the design in colored buttercream icing on top of the cake so that it could be seen from the top view.

12. Edible Jungle Images

Edible images are pictures that are printed on edible icing paper using edible ink. So you can print jungle animals and use them as toppers. You can find suppliers or sellers online who could print the images you’d like.

Take this three-tier jungle Christening cake for example. All the animals are edible images, while the leaves are modeled from fondant.

13. Animal Cookie Toppers

You can pipe your design on a sugar or butter cookie using royal icing, then use the cookie as a topper. This cake, for instance, has lion and zebra cookies on top of the Swiss vanilla meringue buttercream.

These tiger and cheetah cookies are so meticulously done. They are painted using edible colors.

If you’re going for a prehistoric jungle, you can go for dinosaur cookies. These cookies have a dinosaur skeleton design and are dusted gold. The leaves are made of fondant.

14. Minimalist Jungle Cake

This cake is a great example of a minimalist cake. Its design details are very simple, with very basic shapes. Even the lion topper doesn’t require mad gum paste modeling skills.

15. Animal Fur Wrap Cakes

Edible image cake wraps are yet another cake decorating technique. These are designs or patterns printed on sugar sheets or wafer paper that you can wrap around the sides of your buttercream cake. You can get cake wraps with animal or fur prints for your jungle-themed cake.

This jungle cake has a different fur pattern for each layer. The first layer is wrapped in leopard print, the second layer in zebra print, and the third layer in giraffe print. Fondant animal figures are lounging on top of every tier.

16. The Lion is Not the Star

We can talk about jungles and leave the lions out of it. They’re not always the star of the show. With that being said, you can go ahead and let the giraffe or the zebra take the spotlight.

This pink jungle cake, for instance, only features a fondant giraffe and no other. Top it with dried bunny tails, pink blooms, pink monstera leaves, and pink macarons and you have one very feminine cake.

Here’s not just one, not just two, but three giraffes frolicking in the savanna. This cake is mostly beige and brown, with dried grass and brown buttercream smeared on the sides.

Here’s another gorgeous cake with a zebra at the center of it all. The zebra’s black and white stripes, as well as the black and white cake wrapper, provide a dramatic contrast against the pink surface of the cake.

And why not a giraffe and a zebra together ?

This cake only has a giraffe and an elephant. But what I probably find more unique is that the first tier is in a shade of green I don’t usually see in a jungle cake.

17. No Animals, No Problem

This jungle cake shows you that you can stay true to the theme even without animals involved. You only need leaves, something that says “wild,” and you’re ready.

18. Animal Silhouette Cake

You can cut out animal silhouettes from glittery paper and put them on your buttercream cake. Add a glittery acrylic topper, like this “Wild One” topper, and some foliage to complete the look.

19. Wooden Animal Cutouts

You can use wooden animal cutouts for your toppers or ornaments and add a combination of synthetic and real dried leaves.

20. Two-Tone Jungle Cake

Again, there are ways to make your jungle cake unique and elegant even if you decided to use toys from the dollar store. How? Use modern decorating styles and two-tone frosting.

This cake, for example, has buttercream frosting in white and a very soft pistachio green. Spice it up with gold palm leaf, gold names, dried pampas grass, and colored chocolate balls.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answer: Technically, jungle and safari are two different things. A jungle is a forest with densely overgrown trees and tangled vegetation, while a safari refers to a trip or excursion. In other words, a jungle is a place while a safari is more of an activity. But when it comes to party themes, you can apply either “jungle” or “safari” to refer to anything about animals in the wild like giraffes, lions, rhinos, elephants, tigers, monkeys, and more.

Answer: Jungle cake pricing depends on a lot of things. It would depend on the kind of cake you want, the flavor and the ingredients needed to make it, the frosting, the design, the size, and the decorative techniques and elements used. Cake prices also vary from baker to baker because of varying skill levels. If you want to have an idea of how much you need to set aside or allot for your cake budget, the best option is to call bakeshops and inquire. You can give them a picture or a description of the cake you want to order, they will suggest flavors based on their specialty, and they can give you an estimated price.

Answer: Jungle cakes are usually great for birthdays and even baby showers. Sometimes, the jungle theme is used for other celebrations, too, like Christening and even graduations. The theme is mostly used for kids since they’re usually the ones who are most fascinated with animals. Of course, I don’t mean to say that the theme doesn’t suit adults, because as long as you love animals and the wild, a jungle cake would still be a great idea.

Jungle-themed cakes have been around for as long as I can remember. So it’s safe to say that the jungle or safari theme never goes out of style. I think part of what makes the theme attractive is the fact that it’s more generic and you have more freedom to give it your own spin and your own interpretation. You don’t need to refer to a particular character or a specific color palette.

How to Create a Safari Cake

Copyright 2013 – Sweet Dreams Cake App/Michelle Davis – All Rights Reserved

I’ve been sharing my safari cake with you for the past couple of weeks. In my last post I explained how to bake jungle animal prints inside the cakes . Today I am going to talk about how I created some of the exterior elements. I’ll save the animal sculpting for next time but today I’ll talk about all the other pieces.

In case you forgot what the cake looked like as a whole, here it is:

The tree that topped my safari cake was created out of both modeling chocolate and rice krispy treats. When I made the RKT (rice krispy treats) I added some green food coloring to the melted marshmallows to turn the batch green.

When my supports were complete I wrapped a layer of rice krispy treats around the dowel to create the girth of the trunk. It is best to use RKT while they are still warm so they can be shaped and molded. If they cool too much you can stick them in the microwave for a few seconds to heat them back up. Also, once you shape them, you can stick them in the freezer to quickly firm the back up. I then covered the RKTs in a layer of brown modeling chocolate to finish the trunk.

The RKTs helped reduce some of the weight of the tree but it was still fairly heavy so when I placed it on the cake I inserted a couple of dowels into the cake, just underneath the trunk, as you would if you were adding an upper tier. This kept it from sinking into the cake as it sat.

The Number Topper

My niece was turning six and she was very proud of how old she had become so I wanted to make sure and announce her age somewhere on the cake. Since I was placing bamboo in other places around the cake I thought it would look neat to keep the bamboo look on the top and create a big “6” out of it.

Here is how it looked after brushing it with petal dust and adding some food coloring markings. See below for explanations on coloring the bamboo.

I placed it on some waxed paper, dusted with cornstarch, and let it dry for several days before I messed with it again.

Animal Prints

The animal prints really made this cake pop. I used a couple of different techniques to create the zebra and leopard prints on two separate cakes.

I finished the print by adding some additional small black spots in between the larger spots. Again, you want these to be shaky so be sure to wiggle your brush as you paint.

The bamboo was one of my favorite parts of the cake. I really loved the feel it gave to everything. When making the number 6 topper and the row of stalks around the base, I used gumpaste, but for the borders I just used fondant since I wanted to the cake to be easy to cut and I also wanted to bend it around the cake after coloring it and I was afraid gumpaste would dry too much and crack. It was definitely easier to mold and color the pieces that were made from the gumpaste, especially since the fondant ones tended to stretch and lose their shape a little as I unmolded them. They worked out just fine though since they were just borders and weren’t a real visible part of the cake.

I found some bamboo molds on Etsy and really loved them. The neat thing about these molds is that the seller also posted a Youtube video on how to use them and how to realistically color your bamboo. In the video she makes green bamboo but I wanted mine to be more yellowish so I did my coloring a bit different.

I finished them off by mixing some of the dark brown petal dust with some vodka and using a fine brush to paint a thin line on each segment. I also added some random markings along the length of the bamboo as you can see in the bottom bamboo piece in the picture.

When the base bamboo pieces had completely dried, I attached them to my baseboard (which is just a 2″ cake dummy covered in fondant) using melted chocolate.

The final thing I’ll talk about today is the jungle leaves on the sides of the cake.

Jungle leaves are much more jagged than rose leaves so I took a knife and cut additional pieces out of each leaf to give it a more rugged look. I then attached them to the cake with some water, placing larger leaves in the back and smaller ones in the front.

My favorite was the mound on the left side of the cake since I had the giraffe eating from them.

There! I’ve covered a whole bunch today and my brain is now fried from trying to remember everything. I hope it all makes sense. If you have any questions always feel free to post them in the comments and I will be happy to answer them.

Next time I’ll talk about animal sculpting.

Until then, God Bless and Sweet Dreams.

Your work is GREAT!!!

Thank you so much Debbie! Your sweet comments always make my day. 🙂

Hi, How many days in advance do I need to make the animals? For the cakes, how many days before the party did you bake them? When you assembled the cake did you use dowles to support the cake? How did you transport the cake? Sorry for all the question. Thanks.

Hi Linda, The animals really just need to dry overnight before you need them but they take a while to make so you want to allow yourself enough time to make them. I usually like to make pieces like that the week before I need them so that I can just focus on the cake the week I am making it but that is just me. I am a slow worker and have limited time for working on cakes so I try to give myself plenty of time to get things done. If the cakes are for a Saturday party I will usually bake them on Tuesday or Wednesday and then spend the rest of the week decorating. Yes, I did use dowels. I used dowels for each tier and then I also used one long dowel that went through the center of all of them. I had a hole cut out in the bottom of the cake board of my top tier so that I could just slide that layer onto the main dowel and not put a hole in the top of my cake from it. It was really sturdy with the dowels so I transported it all assembled. I refrigerated it well the night before and then delivered it all assembled. I had to travel over an hour and the only problem I had was it was a hot day and my air conditioning went out in my car so the rice krispy treat on the tree started warming up and some of the leaves started to break off. Once I got up to where the party was located, in the mountains, it was cooler and I reformed the leaves and they stayed together for the party. I don’t recommend using chocolate or RKTs if your cake will be in a warm environment since they tend to melt. In that case I would use fondant or gumpaste. Oh, one more tip, if you refrigerate your cake with the chocolate pieces on it make sure to cover the chocolate pieces with some plastic wrap then allow the cake to come back to room temp before removing the plastic wrap. This prevents condensation from forming on the pieces. Hope that helps.

Love the idea of giraffe eating the leave.

Bravo Michelle………..If I were Ellie…I would b in 7th Heaven…You have put so much thought into the cake…God Bless

Bravo Michelle…………………If I were Ellie…I would be in 7th Heaven ….you have put so much effort on the cake….and the detailing is brilliant..Thanks for sharing

Thank you so much Amber!

Awesome cake!!

When you use paste food coloring and thin with vodka, does it dry to the touch?

Hi Stephanie, I am so sorry but I am just now seeing this question. There were a few weeks where I wasn’t notified of questions that were posted so I missed several of them. I am so sorry. I am doing some back checking right now and just discovered this. Anyway, to answer your question, it doesn’t get totally dry to the touch. It dries but still stays a little tacky. When I was placing the giraffe tier on the bottom tier I had to be careful so that I wouldn’t smear the print.

That is wonderful!

How much does it cost to make this cake?

Hi Madison, I’m sorry but I have no idea really. I don’t do cakes for profit so I don’t keep track of my costs.

Thanks so much for the inside and outside leopard cake pictures and instructions. I followed your instructions and now have the most amazing 16th birthday cake for my bf’s grand-daughter. 🙂 Bookmarked this site for future

Thanks so much for the inside and outside pictures and instruction for the leopard cake. I now have the most amazing birthday cake to give my bf’s grand-daughter. Bookmarked your page. 😀

I am learning how to make figures, and I started with the elephant. He is coming along just fine. I have him almost finished. I am really enjoying this. I love the animals, and they are not really hard if looking at the pictures as you go. I checked myself with each instruction and tried to match everything. You did not talk anything about the size of these figures. Do you do a specific size for the animals?

Hi Mary, The sizes are really up to you and how tall your cakes are and how big you want your animals to be. My cakes are usually around 5″ tall after covered in fondant so I would guess my animals were somewhere between 3 /12 – 4 inches tall. It has been a while since I made this cake so I don’t recall exactly.

Great instructional post! I just made the leopard print cakes tonight (they’re still in the oven, so fingers crossed they come out right!) I tried to judge taking a third out of my second batch of yellow cake, and still ended up with not enough yellow, so I ended up running out to the store mid-process. I had originally used Duncan Hines yellow cake mix, but the drugstore where I bought my emergency third box of cake mix only sold Betty Crocker. It seemed like the Betty Crocker mix was thicker than the Duncan Hines. I might just try a pound cake recipe next time, as that batter is already super thick. I feel like light and dark brown chocolate batters were a good thickness, but the plain yellow batter was still too thin.

Hi dear I don’t know you But I appreciate from you hearty, I use your directions for my madagascar tree and I succeeded to make it perfect, Thank you so much And I wish the best for you.

So glad it helped you!

Nice tutorial will try it

I just came upon your tutorial on How to create a safari cake. Your cake is absolutely gorgeous. I realize that you posted this 2 years ago, but I am hoping you can answer a few questions. I am a beginner. I have never made a tiered cake before. Do the second and third tiers sit right on the lower cake or is there one of those cardboard plates underneath. I don’t like the taste of fondant so I won’t be using it. That is why I wanted to try modeling chocolate for the animals. I want to keep everything edible. I will be frosting the cakes with buttercream icing. Is there any way I can paint on those leopard spots if I let the icing dry. Why do you thin the food coloring? And why with Vodka? Would it work if I used petal dust? And what about the zebra stripes. I will definitely be trying the animal prints on the inside of the cake. Even if they don’t turn out right, they will still be edible. What a great idea. I’m really excited about trying all these new techniques. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas and talent with everyone.

Hi Danielle, Whenever you stack tiered cakes you need both cake boards and dowels to support the upper tiers. You can do a search for tutorials on how to stack tiered cakes and that will give you all the info on how to do it and how many dowels you need for the size cake and all that. As for painting on buttercream, I have never done it but I have read that it can be done. I would make sure you use a buttercream that is either a crusting buttercream or one that has lots of butter in it and make sure it is well chilled so the butter gets very hard. I thin the food coloring because it is to clumpy as is. I use vodka or ever clear because they have high alcohol contents and evaporate quickly so that you aren’t adding water on to the cake and causing it to run. I don’t see why you couldn’t use petal dust as well. As for the zebra stripes, you might consider using fondant just for these. Ice your cake in white buttercream but then roll out thin strips of black fondant and cut out the stripes and lay them on the cake. They can easily be lifted off if you don’t want to eat them. Hope that helps. Good luck to you! Happy Baking and God bless!!

Making a rainforest cake for my grandsons birthday and want a freestanding tree beside the cake. Do you think , since your tree is so “thick” and if I made it from gumpaste, that it would stand on its own?

Hi Gina. It might be ok because it is so thick. I would probably be a little nervous myself though just because it is also tall and could end up being top heavy. I think it will have to be your call if you want to try it. I don’t know that I would be comfortable leaving it free standing myself, but I also tend to err on the side of caution. Good luck to you!

Hi Michelle! This cake is beyond amazing and looks so stunning! I know you’ve posted this a few years back but was wondering if I could still ask a question on how you stacked the tiers. I noticed the tiers are a bit off centre to fit the animals at the front. Could I please ask how you stacked them to give room at the front for the animals? Thank you 🙂

Hi Lisa. Thank you for the compliment! I stacked them just like I would a center stacked cake but I positioned everything toward the back of each cake so the dowel rods are inserted evenly over the area that the top cake will set on. I also add one long dowel rod that goes through all three of them. I hope that makes sense. Happy Baking!

Safari / Jungle Themed First Birthday Party Part I – Dessert Ideas

August 6, 2014 by Roxy

girl safari cake ideas

Last week was a memorable one as we celebrated Daniel’s first birthday party. I can’t believe he’s one year old already! My baby boy is seriously growing up too fast so someone, please stop the time! Choosing a theme for his birthday party was super easy as his favorite toys (apart from empty water bottles, TV remote control & cellphones) are all the plush animals around the house from monkeys to teddy bears to elephants.

This Safari / Jungle Themed First Birthday Party was completely styled by me – from choosing the decorations, designing my own banners to baking a cute jungle cake & his smash cake, cupcakes & cupcake toppers , jungle cookies and making all the finger foods (sushi included!). It’s a great party theme that I’m sure any kid would love regardless of the age and it’s a cute idea for a baby shower as well.

I wanted to make something special for Daniel’s 1 st birthday but at the same time we didn’t want to go overboard and spend a fortune. In this post I’ll show you how to throw a fabulous jungle birthday party on a budget for your little ones. Plus you can print all the labels, pennant banners, jungle animals stickers/toppers for FREE!

I made two of these, one for the big cake and the other for his smash cake. Check out the tutorial on how to make this cute little teddy bear .

Talking about this, here’s Daniel’s JUNGLE FIRST BIRTHDAY SMASH CAKE. It’s a five-layer walnut cake (6 inches) filled with the same delicious chocolate walnut cream (full tutorial with step by step photos coming soon!).

Have some bananas around? Then place them in a basket and add a cute label named BANANAS FOR MONKEYS.

More monkey food coming up!

I made an easy BANANA PUDDING FOR MONKEYS. I don’t have a recipe on my blog but I like this Banana Pudding from Epicurious or this Homemade Banana Pudding from the Baker Chick . I adjusted the recipe a bit because I didn’t use any Vanilla wafers but placed half a ladyfinger in each dessert cup… just to keep things simple but still delicious!

Got some BERRIES FOR HIPPOS from the farmer’s market (blueberries, red & yellow raspberries and blackberries), placed them in some cups and made a few cute Hippo Toothpick Stickers (free printable coming soon in Part III of my post!).

Safari / Jungle Themed First Birthday Party - Dessert Ideas: Berries for Hippos

Moving on to the cupcakes…oh my, I had so much fun decorating these JUNGLE ANIMALS CUPCAKES. They were Lemon Blueberry Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting from Annie’s Eats. I’ve made Annie’s cupcakes before and loved them so decided to go with this recipe for the party.

Safari / Jungle Themed First Birthday Party - Dessert Ideas: Jungle Animals Cupcakes / Jungle Animals Fondant Cupcake Toppers from lions, teddy bears, monkeys to hippos, giraffes, tigers and elephants.

I made every single JUNGLE ANIMAL FONDANT CUPCAKE TOPPER – from lions, teddy bears, monkeys to hippos, giraffes, tigers and elephants. Plus a few toppers with number one but you can personalize these based on your little one’s age.

If you don’t want to spend the extra time to make your own fondant toppers no worries, I’ve got you covered! You (can) will be able to download for FREE my Jungle Animals Cupcake Toppers that I’ll provide shortly in Part III of my post. Just print them on heavy cardstock paper, cut them out, tape them to ice cream sticks or toothpicks and pop them on cupcakes! Cute and simple decorations!

After all these yummy desserts I bet everyone is thirsty so let’s not forget the JUNGLE JUICE! Buy one of those water/juice glass jars with a faucet or borrow one from your friends (like I did 🙂 ). We filled it with orange peach mango juice but you could use anything you like.

Oh, I almost forgot, my Nutella Peanut Butter Monkey Cupcakes would be just perfect for this party theme as well!

Safari Cakes For Baby Showers: 3 Super Ideas You Don’t Want To Miss

Safari Cakes For Baby Showers: 3 Super Ideas You Don't Want To Miss

Sharing is caring!

Last Updated on February 18, 2023

Looking for some ideas for safari cakes for baby showers? Take a look at this article!

Honestly, there is no better reason to get together than to celebrate a little human being who is about to come into this world. Babies are so cute, soft and have the most beautiful baby scent that I’m literally melting as I write this.

So, regardless of whether you are hosting a baby shower or gathering with friends at a potluck, take a look at this article to get the most unique safari cakes for baby showers ideas. I can’t wait to get into the details.

How To Get Started?

The safari theme in itself is quite fun and should evoke a feeling of happiness and excitement in the guests for all of the adventures that a new baby will bring, not only to the parents but also to the whole community. That is exactly why we suggest you choose one or even several statement lines that will run through the entire showering, from wall decorations to cakes and invitations.

Some of our all-time favorites include the following :

“The adventure begins!”

“The pack is getting bigger!”

“Welcome new baby to the jungle!”

“It’s about to get wild!”

Do you have any ideas of your own that you would like to share with us? Well, it sounds great, don’t hesitate to let us know in the comments section below. We look forward to reading your suggestions.

Safari Cakes For Baby Showers

Safari cakes are among the most popular trends not only for baby showers but for all kinds of gatherings and special occasions. When you think about it, it is not so strange because many elements fit perfectly into this overall concept. For example, you can’t go wrong if you put animal cake toppers, edible colorful splatter, fondant animals, and leaves on the cake.

Is there anyone who can say that all this is old-fashioned or doesn’t like it? I have never met such a person. All the people I’m surrounded by are simply crazy about a safari-themed baby shower cake, and I hope that together we can pass that madness on to you, our dear reader.

Check out my favorite safari cake ideas below. I hope you will fall in love with at least one of them, although I think you will love each one individually because they are so unique.

Choose the finish

When it comes to safari cakes for baby showers, the most important thing is to choose what finish you want it to have. Accordingly, you can choose between a naked, semi-naked, or fully-covered cake. This isn’t just an unimportant step that you can skip, as it has an impact in so many aspects, from the price to the style of decoration, the texture and freshness of the cake, allergens, and dietary requirements, and much more.

Safari Cake Ideas

Let’s finally get to the point!

Pink and gold safari cake

A cute little girl is coming to your tribe? We are so glad to hear that! If you want to treat yourself or your friend who will soon give birth to a wonderful baby girl, I think you won’t go wrong if you choose a combination of pink and gold details.

For example, a cake can be super simple on the outside, bare without fondant, or some super heavy frosting because you know what they say, “It’s what’s on the inside that counts”. Don’t shy away from these types of cakes as they are usually baked and layered with many types of fillings to add flavor and moistness.

Furthermore, in order to keep everything in the spirit of the theme of the party, you can decorate it with lion, giraffe, zebra, and baby elephant figurines. These figurines can wear crowns made from a combination of pink and gold flowers and green foliage. Additionally, you can put a pom pom garland and/or mini presents stacked together and tied with a ribbon bow, which will also be a combination of green, pink, and gold.

pink and gold safari cake

Tall jungle cake

After you started making a list of people you want to invite to this get-together, you realized that there will be more of you than you originally thought. We have got you covered! The best thing you can do is get a two-tiered cake. Besides, there will be enough for all the guests, so you can go with the theme.

Speaking of jungle theme baby shower cakes, try to imagine the following: The bottom layer of the cake is a super juicy chocolate sponge cake with chocolate filling, and the top layer is made of pillowy soft crumb and creamy vanilla buttercream. Can it get any better than this? – Probably not!

You can decorate the cake by stenciling it with royal icing or whipped cream, fondant animals, and animal-printed chocolate balls. Ingenious!

Safari experience with edible leaves

If you are thinking about making or purchasing safari cakes for baby showers, we have a great idea for you.

Namely, things don’t have to be complicated at all. For example, if you’re expecting a girl, you can opt for a classic cake like the White Cake with Berry-Swiss Meringue Buttercream (it’s pink on the inside). On the other hand, if you’re expecting a boy, you don’t need to go beyond a simple frosted ombre cake with buttercream or a cake filled with lollies (it’s blue on the inside).

As for the decoration, all you have to do is make the cake, cover it with frosting, and decorate it with store-bought jungle leaves, sprinkles, and pearls. Trust me, you can buy or order these decorations online for less than $8, and they can make your cake look like you bought it at the most expensive cake shop in town.

To Round Up

When you think about it, no party is complete without a cake to mark the occasion, right? The same applies when it comes to the imminent arrival of the youngest in your tribe. With a little creativity, effort, and time, it is really possible to make the most delicious and appealing safari cakes for baby showers.

We hope you find these ideas useful. I tried to make them modern, unique, and suitable for every skill level.

This is such a cute saying on the favor tag – the sentiment is so sweet. It reads “Please light me up when you hear the news that baby Sawyer has made his debut. The flame will glow to celebrate little Sawyer’s arrival date.” It’s easy to do too … get your candle votives with lids ( or without lids ) next add some twine, punch a hole in your note card and lastly, add to your candle favors. You can customize the tags with your own wording or poem too!

Do you know where I can get cutters or templates for fondant cut outs for the animals in the cake with the kangaroo?

February 11, 2023 at 2:25 pm

Hi Tracy – It appears that the templates were handmade with fondant. The cookie cutouts I’ve seen are similar – but not the same. There are a lot of cute ones out there though on etsy – you may find something you like!
