Historic stony brook: gateway to princeton history.

Before there was a “Princeton,” six Quaker families established a community on the fertile ground along Stony Brook. Stops include the Stony Brook Meeting House and Burial Ground, walking a portion of the “hidden” back road into Princeton, and a view of the Battlefield. Tour starts at 354 Quaker Road, Princeton.

Walking sightseeing tour in Princeton

For 17 years running, our signature public walking tour has been the #1 Princeton attraction on TripAdvisor . Impressive, right? The New York Times , Chicago Tribune, and Washington Post have all written about it. Spoiler alert… they all say it’s awesome!

When it comes to legendary movers and shakers , the town of Princeton has an embarrassment of riches. Yet we never shy away from bragging about them non-stop during our most popular and comprehensive guided tour. On this picturesque 3-mile active and upbeat walk , you’ll learn the fascinating history of Princeton University while taking in all the must-see campus sites , including Nassau Hall, Princeton Chapel, Prospect Garden, Blair Hall and Rockefeller College. Outside the gates, we’ll visit the homes and hangouts of Albert Einstein, F Scott Fitzgerald, TS Eliot, Woodrow Wilson, Grover Cleveland, Robert Wood Johnson and even ‘80’s icon, Brooke Shields , just to name a few! Whether you like to curl up with a history book or an US Weekly, this tour has something for everyone.

This tour, begins at 116 Nassau Street inside the Princeton University Store and end in the heart of downtown close to all our favorite restaurants, pubs, cafes and ice cream shops!  (Remember, this is a colonial town so expect to go up and down steps, tackle a hill or two and cover a 3 mile route within 2 hours.)

Check-In Information

  • Tours start at 116 Nassau Street inside the Princeton Store. We recommend parking in the nearby garages at 30 Spring Street. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to tour departure — we cannot wait for late arrivals. Princeton is located between New York City and Philadelphia and is easy to reach by public transportation or by car. The closest and most conveniently accessed international airport is Newark Liberty International.

We recommend you consult our list of  local resources , including restaurants and lodging to explore the local area. For a mobile friendly arrival guide with maps and directions, please review our On-Campus Arrival Guide .

The University is easily accessible by train, which runs along the Northeast Corridor line and also stops at Newark airport. Both  Amtrak  and  NJ TRANSIT  trains stop at Princeton Junction. princeton university tourist tours

Thank you for considering applying for admission to Princeton University and your interest in engineering.

Reflecting Princeton’s integrated approach to education and its close-knit community that spans engineering and the liberal arts, all undergraduate admissions are handled through the University’s central Office of Admission . Applicants indicate their interest in engineering and express their intention to pursue the Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.S.E.) degree, but there are ample opportunities to transfer between degree programs. Students may pursue the B.S.E. in the departments of Chemical and Biological Engineering , Civil and Environmental Engineering , Computer Science , Electrical and Computer Engineering , Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering , and Operations Research and Financial Engineering . The Department of Computer Science offers both the B.S.E. and the liberal arts (A.B.) degrees.

We have many great things to say about Princeton Engineering as a launching place for your dreams and for making a positive difference in the world – and you can find a few succinct reasons why in our FAQ .

In-person Guided Engineering Tours

Guided engineering tours during the academic year are offered by members of the Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society, who are juniors and seniors who are able to describe their experiences as engineering students at Princeton while providing an overview of the academic programs and facilities. Guides will begin the tour promptly at 11:30 a.m. from the SEAS Undergraduate Affairs Office, room C209 in the Engineering Quadrangle (E-Quad), which is K3 on the  campus map .  Tours last 45 minutes to an hour and are offered Monday through Friday, when  classes are in session . Unfortunately, we are unable to offer guided tours on weekends, during Reading Period (just before exams) and exams, or during breaks. Our available tour dates are online  here .

During the summer, guided engineering tours are offered from the Monday after the July 4 th  holiday through the end of July, given by students who are spending their summers at Princeton doing research. Guides will begin the tour promptly at 11:30 a.m. from the SEAS Undergraduate Affairs Office, room C209 in the Engineering Quadrangle (E-Quad), which is K3 on the  campus map . Tours last 45 minutes to an hour and are offered weekdays only, Monday through Friday.

Our available tour dates will be available online  here  in June 2023.

We ask that you please RSVP and follow the instructions. An email confirmation will be sent. Please be aware that during high school vacation weeks in February and April, as well as on holidays such as Columbus Day, there is a very heavy demand for guided tours. Since Princeton students have to meet academic obligations, we do not have large numbers of guides available, so the tours during peak periods can get very large. If possible, please plan to visit outside these periods.

Please note that we are unable to store personal items such as luggage, backpacks, coats or umbrellas in the E-Quad.
