Some very good things in life come in threes, Wise Men, Stooges and Musketeers, ready, set go, faith, hope, love, and Restless Road. These latest NextStage performers are made up of three different but complementary voices and personalities. The trio’s powerhouse harmonies have made them one of the most auspicious breakout stories to hit Nashville in a long time. They have been praised by People magazine, noted favorably in Billboard and raved about in Taste of County. While everyone seems to be excited about this group, perhaps the best compliment they received was from NBC’s Today Show host, Hoda Kotb, who said, “That harmony … you feel it in your soul.”

For Restless Road members Zach Beeken, Colton Pack and Garrett Nichols, it is about harmony for the soul and if they have their say, it will always be harmony from the heart.

Restless Road Sees the Grand Ole Opry Along the Way

A restless road is not always straight. By its very name suggests the road may be bumpy, long, and full of ups and downs. For the band Restless Road, there have been many destinations along the way. The most memorable is the summer night where the lane led to the Grand Ole Opry: June 21, 2021.

“When we found out we would be making our Opry debut, there were just instant tears,” Beeken said. “It is just such a validating thing to get to play here. It reaffirmed for us that ‘Hey, chasing this dream is worth it.’ And we had our families, and our friends here and there were tears the whole day and, yeah, I know it is something we will never forget.”

But what does it mean to get the exposure as a NextStage artist?

“Just to be associated with the Opry is pretty unbelievable,” Pack said. “It is one of those things as a country artist we dreamed about. It is just that the Opry means so much to all three of us. Maybe more than anyone will ever know.”

Beeken adds, “We think we want to make this building and the people around here proud. We just want to make our families proud and make the younger versions of ourselves proud and we get the chance as a NextStage artist.”

Okay, but where does Restless Road Begin?

No one’s pathway to success just leads to the footlights of the Grand Ole Opry. The journey of Restless Road lived up to its name.

“So, for nine years now, we've been a band,” Beeken recalls.  “We got our start on this singing competition TV show where we formed our band. After that show ended, we went through all kinds of ups and downs and we just kept writing songs, recording, trying to do shows when we could. And, uh, I'd say about five or six years into being a band, times were definitely rough. A lot of things had fallen through with a lot of relationships. It just didn't pan out the way we wanted it to. And financially it was starting to get hard for us. You know, Colton had a wife and a family starting and just, we weren't getting any shows and we had to get a couple different jobs to support ourselves. And we were working in bars and restaurants and trying to do music on the side when we could.

Will You Accept a Call from Kane Brown?

For a time, it looked like Restless Road was one of those roads that did not go anywhere. But a call from an established country act changed the landscape.

“We were blessed enough to get a phone call from Kane Brown, Beeken said. “He called us up and said he was looking to sign an act and bring them out on the road. I'm not going to lie. The three of us were gung-ho about it. We were kind of nervous and scared, but I can say it was absolutely the best decision of our lives to take that jump with Kane. Getting to work with him and his crew has been just like riding a rocket ship.”

Coupling with Kane Brown on his “Blessed and Free Tour,” which ran from October 2021 to February 2022, the relationship with Brown led to something even more fortitudinous. When Restless Road unveiled their self-titled EP in February 2020, it included the song “Take Me Home,” which featured none other than Kane Brown.

The Pandemic Off-Ramp

The Covid pandemic brought construction on Restless Road to a halt. At least, for a short time. But the trio was able to find a way to grow and move forward even when the world was spinning slower.

“Social media was something that people were really leaned into,” Beeken said. We started making videos and we kind of thought, ‘Hey, if we can't do shows in real life, we can entertain people through a phone screen’ and over the past three years we have grown exponentially on social media.”

Restless Road feels the last three years have meant writing and releasing their best music so far. And now that things have opened again, the trio has spent the last year on the road.

“It has felt good for us to be on the road for real,” Beeken said. “There have been so many moments, even just random moments, where it hits us how special it is to be doing what we are doing and getting to meet our die-hard fans and seeing how our music makes them feel.

We were driving the van the other day through Colorado on our way to play a sold-out show with Brad Paisley, an absolute legend, and it just hit me. I was, like, I can't believe we're living our dream. I think there's so many layers to the dream, but we've definitely come pretty far since then.”

Three Times the Talent

Within any trio, and especially Restless Road, there is a triple number of options in the arsenal. But the group has found a way to light it up to the max.

“We all have different styles of singing and we all have different voices,” Nichols said. “Like Zach has a very deep Josh Turner kind of voice. I’ve got a higher, smoother voice. And Colton has an even higher octave mixed with a red dirt twang in his voice.”

When the group is making their music, writing songs, or deciding what parts to do, the questions of who goes where usually resolves itself.

“I think we kind of listen to the song and ask ourselves, ‘Okay, whose voice would go best right here?’” Nichols said. “It is because there are always going to be different feelings in a song and, maybe, my high voice might be the power to drive one song. But then, for a more tender, vulnerable kind of song, Zach will step out and get to deliver his low, really cool stuff.”

Because Restless Road all grew up in different spots of the country and experienced different music, it may be what makes them truly unique.

“We are doing something that really hasn’t been done in a long time,” Pack said. “We were told all the time that we would never work on radio because we would confuse the audience, and no one would know who was singing. So, it has been really cool to hear our songs on the radio.”

While the efforts of hard work and a high degree of talent is heard in their work, Restless Road is not discounting a sense of supernatural about their music.

“We have three lead singers coming together and doing the harmonies,” Pack said. “Some people may think that is really difficult for us, and sometimes it is. But when it does happen, it is magical.”

Family Matters

“I think we are lucky because we had such a good foundation and one thing we have in common is our families pushing us and keeping us going,” Nichols said. “We have been out here for a long time and our families have always been supportive.”

Garrett often goes back to wisdom his father lent him early on.

“My dad would always say, ‘Hey, you can fail at anything, but you gotta put your effort in while you can,’” Garrett said.

The parents of all the members of Restless Road believed that music is one of those things where you only get a certain amount of time, and the trio should focus on it while they could.

“All our parents told us that they believed we were meant to do this,” Garrett said. “They told us we should go for it and that they believed in us and if we don’t try we will never know. So, when the doubts and the long hours showed up, we thought of what they said and knew we just had to work harder than anyone else.”

Where Does Restless Road Go from Here?

“I hope that a few years from now we’ll be stepping on stages and playing stadiums not as the opener anymore,” Pack said. “We’d like to be headlining. There are so many things that we have accomplished. If this all went away tomorrow, the things that we have gotten to do are rewarding and we have stories for a lifetime. Yet, there are still so many things that motivate us. Like, when we step on a stage and watch people sing our songs back to us.”

It is said the number three is regarded as perfection – mathematically, visually, and practically. As the trio of Restless Road proves with its heart-stirring harmony, the number three may also be regarded as perfection musically. The goal of Zach, Colton and Garrett is to make people proud and leave a musical legacy all their own. They write their songs and take the stage each night working to push country music forward. They are succeeding. And along the way, they are changing people’s lives through their music and leaving pieces of happiness along the road, the Restless Road.

Restless Road Talks Bar Friends Tour And How Kane Brown Took A Chance On Them

restless road tour 2022

For nearly a decade, the men of Restless Road have been striving to get their music career off the ground. When Zach Beeken , Colton Pack , and Garrett Nichols first stepped into the country music scene – they were faced with several naysayers who believed they would never reach success as a male-dominated trio. However, longtime friend Kane Brown knew all along that they were destined for greatness.

When the " One Mississippi " singer launched his label 1021 Entertainment with Sony Music Nashville, he immediately turned to Restless Road and offered them a record deal. It was early 2020 when their music dream became a reality.

"We had a lot of producers and labels say, 'Hey, you can't have more than one singer…that's never gonna work out.' We've had to put in a lot of work on our harmonies, our sound, and we started teaching ourselves about songwriting," shared Beeken. "When we started working with Kane, he was really someone who helped validate us. We could be a band where we all three sing, and he supported that. He was really the first person in our career that supported us and our vision."

The harmony-driven trio quickly found success on TikTok with 2.2M followers, simply proving that there was a demand for a boy band in the country music space. Since becoming a signed group, they released their self-titled debut EP, received their first radio single with " Growing Old With You ," made an appearance on ABC's " The Bachelor ," performed at the Grand Ole Opry, and had the opportunity to join Brown on his Blessed & Free Tour .

While many musicians find themselves caught up in the journey to stardom, Restless Road told CMT that they recently had their first "pinch-me moment" and took the time to recognize their progress as a group.

"The first show we ever did back as a band was at the sold-out show at the Staples Center with Kane. I remember when we came back off the stage, we all went into the dressing room, and I think we had that pinch-me moment," shared Pack. "We all just looked at each other, and I think we realized then that the stars aligned. We couldn't have done it without each other. This kind of business is pretty tough, and it's really tiring, a lot of work, but it makes it a whole lot more fun when you have a couple of people around you that believe in the same thing you're doing. Where we're at today is definitely the happiest in our career, because we're further now than we've ever been."

A post shared by Restless Road (@restlessroad)

The rising stars said they will not be pumping their breaks any time soon and will be keeping up the positive momentum on their first headlining Bar Friends Tour . The trio tapped husband-wife duo Kat & Alex and budding vocalist Shelby Darrall to serve as direct support on the nationwide trek. The " Hometown Tonight " singers revealed that they would like to intertwine everything they learned from Brown into their own show.

"We are taking what we learned with our time with Kane and applying some of that stuff and seeing what happens. Kane does a really good job of keeping everybody engaged from start to finish of the show. Whether it's with his big hits or songs that are just on the album. The whole acoustic moments that he does, where he breaks down and tells you a little bit of the backstory on him, I think that's something that we want to implement in our show," gushed Nichols. "We want people to have fun! It's a big energy show, but we want to take those moments during the show to really just tell who we are, what our story is, and hope that people leave knowing us a little bit better," he added.

While ticket-holders could expect to hear Restless Road jams like " It Ain't Easy ," " All the Girls ," " One Step Ahead " – they might just catch some unreleased tracks as well.

"We're trying out a bunch of new songs and new things in our set," they declared. "We've been writing a bunch of songs when we were off the Road. We are starting to get a really good group of stuff together. We are going into the studio soon and recording new material to give to our fans. We're going to take time to play all the Restless Road songs everybody knows and loves already, but we're also going to play songs that we grew up with and that we love."

The group said that their new music in the pipeline is fresh and different from anything else they have released before.

"We definitely are going to implement some new sounds. There's one song that we are going to be putting out that's kind of rootsy and a throwback feel – it's really cool with our harmonies, and it kind of feels like an American song. I don't think you'll hear any love songs or true ballads from us, at least for the next few songs, because we want " Growing Old With You " to live on its own for a while," Pack said before Beeken revealed that their forthcoming summer single, "No Can Do" will be arriving soon.

"We got a really great song coming out for lake days for these summer days coming up. It's a beer-drinking song we played at our live shows, and it's so much fun. I'm really excited about that one too. I think that people are probably biting at the bit now to hear some new music from us, and it is coming."

While testing new music out on a live audience, they will also be lending a helping hand to aspiring musicians in each city. Along with Kat & Alex and Darrall, Restless Road has invited up-and-coming artists at each stop to showcase their pipes in their very own backyard.

"In the spirit of Mr. Kane Brown, we were talking about how grateful and cool it's been that he's given us such a massive opportunity and support. We wanted to give back to other musicians that needed an opportunity because that's what Kane did for us. We figured we're in a position to help or give people a platform, and we should do it," Pack said.

Once they wrap up their 17-city trek in May, they are set to bring their talents across the world to Australia.

"We're planning on taking Restless Road international this year," declared Pack about their September adventure. "I think we're really excited about playing for international fans. So, that's probably one thing we're really looking forward to this year," he concluded.

Restless Road

Made up of three different but complementary voices, country band Restless Road is “one of the most intriguing and exciting acts of the year” (Wide Open Country). Praised by People, Taste of Country, Billboard, and more, the trio’s powerhouse harmonies and soul-baring lyrics put them on numerous 2021 “Ones to Watch” lists, as members Zach Beeken, Colton Pack, and Garrett Nichols continue to rack up millions of streams. As NBC’s Today Show host Hoda Kotb put it, “That harmony...you feel it in your soul.”

Since Zach and Colton joined forces after meeting on a singing competition (where they met future collaborator Kane Brown), Restless Road has stood out as one of the genre’s premier vocal forces. When Garrett came onboard in 2015, they knew they had something special.

In February 2020, the trio unveiled their debut self-titled EP, which includes “Take Me Home,” featuring Kane Brown. A short year later, they dropped their track, “Took One Look At Her Momma,” which American Songwriterpraised for its “captivating melody and lyrics that those in a relationship could benefit from hearing.” They recently released their tracks “Bar Friends,” “Hometown Tonight,” and“Headlights.”

Now on the road with Kane Brown as direct support on his “Blessed & Free Tour,” which runs until February 2022, Restless Road is gearing up for their first headlining trek. With all signs indicating Restless Road is a contender for best new vocal group, its members continue to write, sing, and perform together as they take the next steps down country music’s long and winding road.

Restless road : “last rodeo”  album review.

Helen Pocock November 2, 2023 Reviews Leave a Comment

restless road tour 2022

BY LESLEY HASTINGS

It’s been a long time coming for their ever-growing fanbase, with line-up changes and of course a global pandemic among other issues to navigate since the band’s formation 10 years ago, but the long awaited debut album from Nashville based  Restless Road  was finally released on 20th October via  Sony Music .

I must admit to not being in the least bit familiar with the band or their music until this album dropped, but their impressive harmonies instantly won me over and the more I immersed myself in their sound the more I found to enjoy. The title track/album opener, appropriately all about the  resilience and tenacity the band have both needed and demonstrated was the song that immediately made me sit up,  pay attention and want to listen to more of the album. And while it’s very different to my usual preference for female Americana or trad Country (I’m sure I’m not their target demographic in any way!) it’s an album I’m really liking.

Named as one of  Spotify’s “Hot Country Artists To Watch for 2023 “ as well as an  Opry Next Stage Artist , the trio ( Colton   Pack, Garrett Nichols  and  Zach Beekin ) have a wealth of life (and love!) experiences between them to draw upon for inspiration and that’s something that comes across throughout many of the album’s 18 tracks, 12 of which they have writing credits on. It’s definitely one of the lengthier debuts but showcases their versatility both as writers and vocalists (as well as those slick harmonies I love their ability to share lead vocals) from stunning ballads such as the clever breakup song “ 10   Things ” to the insanely catchy and fun “ Head Over Heels ”. As well as brand new songs it includes previously released tracks with which their existing fanbase will be familiar, such as their  Sirius XM The Highway  #1 hit “ Growing Old With You ” (an outside cut whose writers include  Lady A’s Charles Kelley ) and “ Bar Friends “ which I must admit to finding rather generic (every band/artist seems to need a fun drinking song these days! ) but I can see why it’s apparently become a fan favourite and I’m sure it goes down a storm live.

There’s a fair bit of over-production for my liking on some of the tracks but in general I love the arrangements and am a big fan of Texan native  Erin Kinsey’s beautiful vocals which feature on “ Most Nights ” and sent me down a rabbit hole exploring her own music ……. I see she is joining the band Stateside on their recently announced headline tour in early 2024.

My favourites on the album tend to be (no surprise!) the heartbreakers ….. the uptempo (unusual for a song of regret) “ Leave Them Boots On ” is one of the best as far as I’m concerned, such a clever concept  and lyrically the references to cowboys throughout are fantastic …. lines such as “ she was a   heartbreak mustang, kind that you can’t tame ” … and just listen to that fiddle that cuts through like a knife. Slowing things down,  “Go Get Her “ is really beautiful on every level …. an outside cut that is just perfect for the trio.

For the romantics out there, as well as the already-mentioned “ Grow Old With You ” give  “You Don’t Have To Love Me “ a listen ….. I think this has all the makings of a modern day classic.

In general, the variety throughout the tracks on this album really showcases the massive potential of  Restless Road , it’s a fantastic introduction to the band if (like me) they are new to you and for existing fans I’m sure the release has been well worth the wait.

Having supported  Kane Brown  on his UK dates earlier this year I’m wondering whether we may see the guys returning next year for some festival dates or even their own tour ….. time will tell.
