Top airline flying from New York to Orlando

Terrible… missed our flight due to ridiculously long time to go thru baggage check-in!

Pretty good. Would’ve been excellent if we would have left on time and the crew wasn’t late.

The weight limit per bag was really low - 40 lbs - so we had to pay extra. Then, they said their carry on size was 14x18x8, and we measured our bag very carefully. It was within the limit, yet they said it was too big, so we ended up paying an extra $100 for that too!! So it wasn’t the cheap flight we thought it would be. Then, they moved up our initial flight to depart 3 hours earlier which meant we had to be out on the road by 7 am and then have a 6 hour layover and we got home at 2am. It was a grueling day. I won’t be flying with them again.

Terrible as usual!!!! Very unprofessional and rude flight attendants! You get what you pay for! HORRIBLE

My experience was above excellent!!!! First the lady that pushed me in the wheelchair to the gate was outstanding!!! Then the ladies at the gate went over and beyond, by helping me fill out the immigration form! I would not have been able to get to Guatemala without their help!!! God bless them all! They were amazing 🙏❤️🙏

The airplane was extremely hot the air conditioner wasn’t working I

My flight was cancelled and I am stranded in another state

Flight always gets delayed. Sat in the plane for over an hour before take off with no air con, still had to pay full price for snacks/drinks.

The airlines delay the flight 1 day and we refuse to take that option instead we need to take a bus ride, now we are expecting for refund the money, it was a horrible experience.

It would have been no e to have the option of a mid day flight and not super early or super late in the day.

It is very likely the official opening date and inaugural rides will be earlier than labor day weekend. officials did not want to speculate on a launch date, but a best guess is july or august..

round trip nyc to orlando

Brightline tickets for the rail line's South Florida to Orlando route officially went on sale Wednesday morning with an initial purchase date of Friday, Sept. 1.

Officials are confident the intercity rail routes to Orlando will be ready by the Labor Day weekend. One-way and round-trip tickets between South Florida stations in Miami, Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton , West Palm Beach and Orlando International Airport can be bought at gobrightline.com or by downloading the app.

Guests are being encouraged to sign up for Brightline emails on gobrightline.com to be the first to know when summer inaugural rides will go on sale, leading to speculation that a first ride between Orlando and South Florida may be possible sooner than Labor Day.

From Fun-Train to Brightline: The 25-year journey to Miami-Orlando service

What to know: Will Brightline stop at Disney Cruise Line at Port Canaveral?

“Brightline guests and the travel market have spoken loudly, and we want to respond by opening ticket sales from late summer through the beginning of next year,” said Patrick Goddard, president of Brightline. “While we are finalizing an official launch date, guests can now book travel for Labor Day, Halloween and holidays through the new year.”

Brightline is nearing the finishing phases of the service, first proposed more than a decade ago, that will link South Florida to Orlando with trains going up to 125 mph, making Brightline the fastest train operating in the Southeast. Brightline estimates 35 million people travel between Central Florida and Miami each year.

The train line is trying to accomplish what others have attempted to do, both in Florida and elsewhere in the United States. Palm Beach Post reporter Kimberly Miller delved deep into Brightline's origins and where it wants to go. To read that story, go here.

Here is additional work taking place leading up to a Brightline service start date:

Rail construction of the St. Lucie River Bridge

Rehabilitation work on St. Lucie River railroad bridge continues this month as Brightline completes that section of the span, one of the last major steps in completing the route to Orlando.

A three-week, round-the-clock shutdown of the 98-year-old bridge began May 1.

The bridge is scheduled to be closed until 6 a.m. on Monday, May 22. During this time, passage for any vessel needing an opening will be blocked. Overnight bridge closures will continue from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., May 22 to May 29. Crews are working 24/7 on the bridge to complete the work on time.

High-speed testing up to 110 mph continues

Brightline is continuing to test trains at high speeds, increasing up to 110 mph through the 129-mile corridor between West Palm Beach and Cocoa.

Upcoming tests in May are scheduled between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 31, through Sunday, June 4, along a 22-mile section of track involving multiple railroad crossings through Martin and St. Lucie Counties.

Flaggers will be present at 14 of the railroad crossings between Midway Road/County Road 712 and State Road A1A where high speed testing will occur. Brightline is working with law-enforcement agencies throughout the corridor.

High-speed testing up to 110 mph will continue in phases along the corridor over the coming weeks. The public is reminded to be vigilant near railroad tracks and follow the law near railroad crossings.

Brightline's 'qualifying train runs' will start

Brightline will continue to roll out qualifying trains between South Florida sites and Orlando, a key step before a launch.

A qualifying train does not carry passengers., and the runs will provide Brightline locomotive engineers and conductors an opportunity to learn and navigate the new 168-mile stretch from West Palm Beach to Orlando.

Qualifying train runs help conductors and engineers familiarize themselves with the road crossings, signals, curves and speed restrictions, according to Brightline.

Once this additional work is completed, Brightline will go through a certification process by the Federal Railroad Administration, a regulatory agency, before service can begin.

How much are train tickets?

Brightline's one-way fares from Miami to Orlando will start at $79 for Smart and $149 for Premium. Kids’ Smart one-way fares will start at $39. Smart fare bundles for families of four are available for less than $199 one way. A check of Brightline's app on Wednesday morning found that a one-way Smart ticket from West Palm Beach to Orlando on Sept. 1 will cost $79 while a Premium ticket will cost $149. The first train departs West Palm at 8:07 a.m. and is expected to arrive in Orlando at 10:15 a.m. Prices from Orlando to West Palm Beach are the same.

Passengers can buy tickets at the stations,  but they also can purchase them online . Discounted fares are available with two days advance purchase.

What is the South Florida to Orlando train schedule?

Service will include 16 daily roundtrips with hourly departures between Miami and Orlando.

  • Hourly southbound departures from Orlando to Miami starting at 5 a.m. until 8:50 p.m.
  • The first southbound train from Orlando arrives in Miami at 8:30 a.m.
  • Hourly northbound departures from Miami to Orlando starting at 6:50 a.m. until 9:45 p.m.
  • The first northbound train from Miami arrives in Orlando at 10:15 a.m.
  • Hourly northbound departures from Miami to Orlando starting at 5:45 a.m. until 9:45 p.m.

The company also said it will continue a daily commuter schedule between Miami and West Palm Beach. The early morning departure will be at 5 a.m. from West Palm Beach with evening night departures until 12:45 a.m. from Miami.

How long will it take to get from South Florida stations to Orlando?

Brightline will link riders from Miami to Orlando in about three hours. Here is the estimated time from the South Florida stations:

  • Miami to Orlando: Three hours.
  • Aventura to Orlando: Two hours, 45 minutes.
  • Fort Lauderdale to Orlando: Two hours, 30 minutes.
  • Boca Raton to Orlando: Two hours, 15 minutes.
  • West Palm Beach to Orlando: Two hours.

Brightline will use a high-tech Wi-Fi system

Brightline will be the only passenger rail service to offer  Starlink's high-speed, low-latency broadband service . Starlink, which is engineered and operated by SpaceX, is made possible via the world’s largest constellation of highly advanced satellites operating in a low orbit around the Earth.

The internet service will be complementary for all Brightline guests.

A 'Golden Spike' ceremony will be held at the end of June

To commemorate the beginning of the historic railway, Brightline officials are looking to recreate a "golden spike" event.

The golden spike was the final 17.6-karat gold final spike driven into the ground to unite the rails of the first transcontinental railroad across the United States on May 10, 1869.

Railways from the Central Pacific Railroad were linked to the Union Pacific Railroad at Promontory Summit, Utah Territory. The spike is now displayed in the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University.

Fastest routes from Brevard to Orlando: Here's what you should know before planning a trip

Toll routes are the fastest way to get from brevard to orlando..

round trip nyc to orlando

With summer vacation approaching, many Space Coast families will be heading to Orlando to enjoy its theme parks and other attractions. But with that comes battling the inevitable sluggish Central Florida traffic.

Here are the best ways to get to your destination quickly.

Non-toll routes

The fastest way to get to downtown Orlando from South or Central Brevard is to take State Road 520, then head west on State Road 50, according to Michael Williams, deputy communications director at Florida Department of Transportation.

If you're coming from North Brevard, you'll want to head to the downtown Orlando area by taking State Road 50 all the way to Orlando, Williams said.

Toll roads are more time-efficient

No matter where you're coming from, your trip will be faster if you take the routes with tolls, as these roads are the most direct and have the highest average speeds, according to Williams.

"Toll roads provide travelers with a choice that typically has greater reliability, less congestion and quicker travel times," Williams said. "Also, toll roads and other limited access roads in Central Florida are patrolled by Road Rangers who can render several services for free, including changing a flat tire, providing one gallon of gas, making minor mechanical repairs and towing a disabled vehicle to a safe spot."

If you're coming from South or Central Brevard, you'll want to take State Road 528 to State Road 417, then head north to westbound State Road 408, Williams said.

Those coming from North Brevard generally take State Road 50 west to State Road 408.

For theme parks via toll roads out of Central Brevard: For Walt Disney World, take State Road 528 west and then proceed south on State Road 417. For Universal Studios: Take State Road 528 west to I-4 East; then look for the Universal Orlando exit (Exit 75A).

Does weather, time of day impact best route?

Toll roads are considered the fastest routes for everyone, including motorcyclists, regardless of weather or time of day, according to Williams. However, some times are busier than others.

These roads will experience heaviest traffic from around 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily, according to Williams. Traffic is lightest between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Preparing for your trip: Know what Orlando traffic looks like now

Before heading out, you can map your trip on apps like Google Maps or Apple Maps. Not only will these apps show you how long you can expect your drive to take, but they'll also show you if there are crashes or other delays along your route.

You can also check live traffic feeds from Florida Highway Patrol and FL511 , which will show you crashes, fires and other incidents along your route. FL511's feed allows you to map your trip with directions that can be printed ahead of your drive.

Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles recommends checking your vehicle's fluids and tire pressure before making a trip away from home, and also making sure you have your proof of insurance and registration with you. It's also a good idea to make sure you have a spare tire and to check its pressure prior to your trip, according to FLHSMV.

What can the Orlando Magic do this offseason to make another leap?

Nov 2, 2023; Salt Lake City, Utah, USA; Orlando Magic forward Paolo Banchero (5) reacts with forward Franz Wagner (22) after making a shot against the Utah Jazz in the fourth quarter at the Delta Center. Mandatory Credit: Rob Gray-USA TODAY Sports

CLEVELAND — The Orlando Magic lost their playoff series, but they still consider their season a win overall. Few outsiders expected them to win 47 games, earn the fifth seed in the East and nearly reach the second round of the playoffs.

Their rebuild, which started in early 2021, is over. Paolo Banchero made his first All-Star team. Franz Wagner proved he can be a high-level player. And Jalen Suggs made the biggest jump on the roster , emerging as one of the league’s best perimeter defenders.

“I think we shocked the world,” point guard Markelle Fultz said less than an hour after Orlando lost its first-round postseason series Sunday in Game 7 against the Cleveland Cavaliers . “We fell a little bit short of our expectations. But at the same time, I’m extremely proud of my brothers for sticking with it, fighting every game no matter what through the whole season, even when people didn’t believe we can do what we’re doing.”

Next season, however, 47 regular-season victories and a first-round playoff exit won’t represent progress. Fairly or unfairly, it would look like standing still.

Which begs the question: In addition to internal improvement and avoiding injuries to key players, how can Orlando solidify what it just accomplished and then take a step further?

The team must improve its shooting and its playmaking.

The Magic finished the regular season 24th leaguewide in 3-point shooting percentage, making only 35.2 percent of their attempts. The only clubs that fared worse were lottery teams: Washington , Detroit , Toronto , San Antonio , Memphis and Portland .

The postseason confirmed the Magic’s worst fears about their shortcomings. The Cavaliers all but dared the Magic to beat them through the long ball. In the series, Orlando shot only 68-of-213 combined on 3-pointers that the NBA stats database considers open (with the closest defender 4-6 feet away) or wide open (with the closest defender at least six feet away) . That’s only a 31.9 percent success rate, and that’s nowhere near good enough to make a long playoff run, even with a top-tier defense.

It’s reasonable for team officials to expect Wagner and Banchero to improve their shooting as they move further into their pro careers. The same goes for Orlando’s 2023 first-round draft picks, guard Anthony Black and swingman Jett Howard .

Suggs, on the other hand, may already have made his big shooting leap, improving this past season to 39.7 percent on 5.1 attempts per game.

Shot creation remains a problem. For all his skills as a defender, and despite his improved long-range shooting, Suggs is fairly limited as an orchestrator who can generate easier shots for his teammates. Reserve point guard Cole Anthony , whose shooting regressed this season, is less a distributor than a scorer.

Fultz, on the other hand, is a natural point guard who has a knack for getting anywhere he wants to go on the floor and finding open teammates. The problem with Fultz, though, remains his shooting. Burdened with thoracic outlet syndrome, he continues to have a wonky shooting stroke and cannot space the floor. He will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Magic officials may be content with Banchero and Wagner initiating the offense, generating shot opportunities for themselves and perhaps paint-touch 3s for others. But as superb as Banchero was in the postseason, the approach of Banchero and Wagner shouldering so much of the shot-creation load does not seem sustainable in the playoffs, when opposing defenses raise their intensity. Orlando would benefit from improving at point guard, which would enable Suggs to shift to a two-guard role.

Absent an upgrade at point guard, Orlando desperately needs a dynamic shooting guard who can create his own shot. Gary Harris , who turns 30 in September, is a fine defender and a solid shooter on low volume, but he has never provided the scoring and playmaking punch the team needs. Harris also will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.

But there’s a positive in all of this.

The Magic enter the 2024 offseason with an unusual amount of flexibility, especially for a team that made the playoffs. They have only $69.7 million in guaranteed salary owed to seven players — Anthony, Banchero, Black, Wendell Carter Jr. , Howard, Suggs and Wagner — plus the 18th pick in the upcoming draft.

The current league estimate is a $141 million cap figure for the 2024-25 season, so that leaves the Magic a lot of wiggle room to pursue different priorities.

That said, the front office has real choices to make. Their spending power would drop significantly if they decide to keep Jonathan Isaac (whose $17.4 million salary for next season is non-guaranteed), Mo Wagner (who has an $8 million team option) and Joe Ingles (who has an $11 million team option) at those salaries. None of that even includes the impending free agency choices Orlando must make on Harris, Fultz, Goga Bitadze and Chuma Okeke .

If the Magic take an aggressive approach to their cap, they could open up approximately $61.5 million in space and have the $8 million room exception on top of it. But generating all that spending power would require some painful goodbyes.

If Orlando takes an aggressive cap approach, it likely would come via a high-profile free agent wanting to join the Magic or an unbalanced trade to save their trade partner money. The latter mechanism could be useful in negotiations with teams like the Hawks ( Trae Young ) and possibly the Trail Blazers ( Anfernee Simons ), because both of those franchises have more long-term money on their books than they would like.

round trip nyc to orlando

A more modest approach, where the front office picks up the player option on Mo Wagner but sheds Ingles, Isaac or both to still add some high-profile talent, would create between $35 and $55 million in space. Isaac is one of the most compelling salary situations in the league because his guarantee date is not until January 2025, meaning president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman and company can consistently evaluate whether they would rather have the defensive ace or that $17 million in spending power without having to make any sort of a commitment. The team could even open up a third path, using Isaac as matching salary if a trade partner was interested in him at that wage for the 2024-25 season.

Extreme flexibility lends itself to a high-aiming approach, where the front office pursues its top targets via trade and free agency at the outset while retaining the ability to run largely the same team back or even push that space to the 2025 offseason — though some of their theoretical future room will get eaten up by significant new contracts for Franz Wagner and Suggs via extensions or restricted free agency.

That ties in with the other big cap consideration for the Magic’s 2024 offseason: Their exciting young core will get much more expensive soon. Wagner and Suggs, who were Orlando’s lottery picks in 2021, will be eligible for pricey new deals before the 2024-25 season begins. Banchero will be eligible for an extension prior to the 2025-26 season.

So, the Orlando front office will have to consider the upcoming big paydays for Banchero, Wagner and Suggs when it weighs how it will approach this offseason, even if shedding salary at a later time is possible. It is a complicated calculus that is incredibly important to get right for both present and sustained success.

Orlando has a full cupboard of draft capital to use in potential trades. The Magic have retained all of their own first-round draft picks and also have an incoming protected first-round pick from the Nuggets (via the 2021 trade headlined by Aaron Gordon and Harris) that likely will convey in 2025.

In any potential trade or free agent decision, Magic executives must consider the degree to which they’re willing to sacrifice defense to add offensive talent, with Young being a primary theoretical example. Look at Orlando’s main starting five of Suggs, Harris, Wagner, Banchero and Carter, and you won’t find an obvious weak link on defense.

Washington’s Tyus Jones , an unrestricted free agent-to-be, could help Orlando at point guard with his court generalship. But at just over 6 feet tall, he would be a liability on defense.

Perhaps Klay Thompson , who will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, would be an upgrade over Harris. Denver’s Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who would become an unrestricted free agent if he turns down his $15.4 million player option for 2024-24, would be an upgrade.

Another positive for the Magic: After many years of irrelevance, they are widely regarded as an up-and-coming team. The organization has a head coach whom players love in Jamahl Mosley. The team is based in a warm-weather climate in a location with no state taxes. As a sweetener, the Magic also boast the best practice facility in the league.

Orlando has been a draw for free agents before, back when it could dangle the opportunity to win big. The front office can make that case now, for the first time in at least 13 years. Banchero, Wagner and Suggs form an enticing nucleus, as they proved this season.

“It just shows where we’re headed,” Banchero said. “It shows what we were able to do in just this year by itself, and I think it’s really encouraging for everybody: players, coaches, the whole organization. So, we’re really going to build off this.”
