The Legacy Of 'Bionic': Why Christina Aguilera's Misunderstood Album Was Actually Ahead Of Its Time

bionic tour cancelled

So, surprise! As your resident pop apologist, on the eve of the two-year anniversary of Bionic 's release (time flies, doesn't it, kids?), I'm traveling back through time to take a look back at Christina's wildly misunderstood, sometimes-genius Bionic —and reflecting on how the ferocious songbird, who's found a new life as the HBIC on "The Voice," had a surprisingly forward-thinking approach on her last album.

Expectations ran exceptionally high for Christina Aguilera's album Bionic , with a list of top-shelf collaborators both mainstream and indie; big names like Tricky Stewart , Ester Dean , Nicki Minaj , and Polow da Don were joined by more alt-leaning voices like Ladytron , Le Tigre, Santigold , Peaches and Sia , for a sound that promised to be diverse and collaborative. But that left-of-center sound was missing from the album's debut single, "Not Myself Tonight," an aggressive stomper that drew comparisons to Lady Gaga and peaked at a decent-but-not-great No. 23 on the Hot 100. The second single, "Woohoo," featuring Nicki Minaj, topped out at a dismal No. 79 on that same chart, and the final effort, "You Lost Me," failed to enter the Hot 100 at all -- Christina's first single to do so. Quietly, and without much fanfare, the Bionic era drew to a close.

So. What went wrong? Her collaborator, Daniel Hunt of Ladytron, blamed RCA, saying bluntly that Christina's label "f***ed up everything" when it came to putting together the final album. And while it's always convenient to blame the label for the faults of an artist, it did certainly seem as though Christina's original artistic vision -- to create a distinctively fresh product -- got muddled somewhere along the way, perhaps by the overreaching commercial expectations of a chart-conscious team.

Read more about Christina Aguilera's misunderstood album, Bionic , after the jump:

But Ladytron was right -- most of the album's best tracks were relegated to the bonus tracks only available on the deluxe edition of the album. And what's startling is how thrilling most those songs are two years after their release. If the tracks on the standard edition were modern but fairly pedestrian, split neatly between uptempo, hypersexual club bangers like "Desnudate" and "Glam" and weepy ballads like "Lift Me Up" and "You Lost Me," the songs on the deluxe edition are forward-thinking and even timeless, galactic pop with subversive, ambient production. The hand-claps and dissonant layered vocals on "Monday Morning," co-penned by San by Santigold, evoke the '80s with subtlety and charm (it wouldn't sound out of place on Ladyhawke's first album). "Bobblehead" is a dazzlingly weird rap-and-percussion diss track, and the Ladytron-produced "Birds of Prey" is a masterwork of sinister bad-trip anxiety. My personal favorite, though, is "Little Dreamer," the iTunes bonus track, another Ladytron collab, which walks the tightrope between wistful affection and melancholy grief, and shows off Christina's vocals at their finest. They're powerful, emotive and more controlled than the melismatic belting for which she's frequently recognized.

In its own way, Bionic neatly illustrates the dangers artists face when aggressively trying to keep up with "current" music. Mainstream music is a runaway express train hurtling itself toward the trendiest end of the pop music zeitgeist. As a result, futuristic pop tracks can already sound dated by the time they're released. And even when they don't, those chart-chasing songs don't age particularly gracefully. But two years after the fact, Bionic 's moments of greatness remain about as good as it gets. On her next album, I'm gunning for Christina to show us that side of her, stronger than ever.

Christina Aguilera cancels summer tour amid reports of poor ticket sales

Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera, seen here earlier this month, has cancelled her summer tour

Christina Aguilera has cancelled her summer tour amid reports of poor ticket sales.

The 20-date tour, which had been due to start in July, has now been postponed to next year because Aguilera 'needed more time to rehearse' due to prior commitments to her new album and film debut, according to a statement released today.

However, there has been speculation that the disappointing response to Aguilera's new album and poor sales of concert tickets are the real reason for the cancellation.

The statement from concert promoters Live Nation read: 'Christina Aguilera's summer tour has been moved to 2011 due to prior commitments that the singer had made to her film, Burlesque, and to the promotion of her new album, Bionic.

'The singer felt she needed more time to rehearse the show and with less than a month between the album release and tour dates this wasn't possible.'

The tour was due to start on July 15 in Uncasville, Connecticut, and finish August 19 in Irvine, California.

Leona Lewis had been signed up as the support act for Aguilera.

Aguilera had been hoping that her fourth studio album Bionic would be her musical comeback - having stepped out of the spotlight after taking a break to have her son Max Liron, now two.

However, despite attempting to promote the new record by posing naked for the cover of GQ magazine and releasing a racy video for single Not Myself Tonight, Bionic only reached a disappointing number 23 on the U.S. album charts last month.

It will be released here on June 8.

The reported poor sales will undoubtedly be a blow to Aguilera, who had attempted to reinvent herself for the new release.

Raunchy: The singer had pulled out all the stops to be as sexy as possible in the video for single Not Myself Tonight, but received a lacklustre response from fans

Revealing: Aguilera stripped down for the cover of German GQ magazine

But fans picked up on the similarities in style between Aguilera and pop rival Lady Gaga, with many accusing her of coping the Poker Face singer.

This latest blow could result in Aguilera concentrating the majority of her time on her acting, having recently revealed she wants to forge a successful career in the movie industry.

Aguilera will make her movie debut in Burlseque, alongside Cher and Kristen Bell, in November this year.

Movie star: Aguilera with co-star Cher on the set of Burlesque in Los Angeles earlier this year. She blamed her commitments to the film and her album for not giving her enough time to rehearse for the show

Despite admitting she found the prospect of starring with Oscar-winning actress Cher in the film daunting, Aguilera said she quickly found her feet.

She said: 'I didn't want to do something that was easy for me. But it's been quite the journey, let me tell you. Almost like training camp!'

When asked recently what kind of films she saw herself starring in in the future, Aguilera replied: 'Something edgy would be good.

Former glory: Aguilera performs during her Back to Basics tour in 2007

'I like the kind of roles Angelina Jolie usually plays, like in Girl, Interrupted. Something with substance.'

She added: 'But I also have some ideas of my own, so maybe I'll get with a screenwriter to put them to paper.'

Christina Aguilera CANCELS Summer Tour As Single Tanks

bionic tour cancelled

Christina Aguilera has canceled her 20-date summer tour, which was scheduled to begin in July.

Live Nation, the tour's promoter, released the following statement:

"Christina Aguilera's summer tour has been moved to 2011 due to prior commitments that the singer had made to her film, 'Burlesque,' and to the promotion of her new album, 'Bionic.' The singer felt she needed more time to rehearse the show and with less than a month between the album release and tour dates this wasn't possible."

Could poor ticket sales be the real reason?

"Not Myself Tonight," the first single off Christina's new album, charted at a disappointing 23. The video for the song (scroll down to watch) was widely panned and regarded as an oversexed Gaga ripoff.

Christina's new album will be released June 8 but has already been leaked in full. 'Bionic' is her first album since she took time off to have her son, and she has been working on it since 2008.

'Burlesque,' a musical costarring Cher, is due out in November. The singer recently posed nude for German GQ.

Just last week Christina told Popeater she planned to wow her fans on her upcoming tour.

"My plan, as I have done in the past, is not to disappoint and to put on a show that my fans will love," she said. "Fans will have to come see the show to find out what we have in store."

Christina Aguilera Delays 20 Date Summer Tour for New LP ‘Bionic’

By Daniel Kreps

Daniel Kreps

Just two weeks after announcing her Bionic summer tour, Christina Aguilera has postponed the entire trek until 2011. The singer says she needs to focus on promoting her new album and is tied-down with commitments to the film Burlesque , in which Aguilera has a starring role. “[Aguilera] felt she needed more time to rehearse the show and with less than a month between the album release and tour date, this wasn’t possible,” said Live Nation, who was promoting the tour, in a statement. The rescheduled dates will be announced later this year.

Aguilera filled Rolling Stone in on the details of her tour before it was postponed. “Rather than venturing back in time to explore a more retro feeling world with Back to Basics , Bionic will take you on a ride into the future,” she told RS . “I want people to feel they’ve landed on another planet and explore the possibility of no boundaries, no rules.” Aguilera was prepping a massive stage show to match her ambitions: the production was set to include new tour videos, high-tech visuals and tightly-choreographed dancing inspired by her role in Burlesque . “I will be reinventing old material to fit the bill and evolution of Bionic ,” she said. “I like everything to flow cohesively and take people on a journey and tell a story throughout the show. Using elements and pieces from my past, I’m now coming full circle in incorporating my growth as an artist over the years.”

Aguilera’s 20-date concert was scheduled to begin July 15th in Uncasville, Connecticut and wrap up a month later in Phoenix, Arizona on August 19th.

"It'll be a world tour. We start in the U.S., then off to Europe, resulting in Asia/Australia, which is usually how they go for me," the singer told MTV. "It'll probably take about a year to get through that cycle. It'll be a fun, fun tour; again with the look and feel of Bionic ."

bionic tour cancelled

Xtina’s “Elastic Love” Rocks—But You’ll Have To Wait To See It Live

bionic tour cancelled

Christina Aguilera is postponing her Bionic tour til 2011, citing prior commitments as the reason for pushing back her tour with Leona Lewis . Turns out 2010 is too busy a year for the singer, since she has to promote both her new album and her film Burlesque , which will be released this November.

But don’t be too sad, Xtina stans! Bionic drops June 8, and we’ve got two standout tracks from her fourth studio album to share with you—”I Hate Boys” and the M.I.A.-penned “Elastic Love”. Unfortunately, only one of them is a standout in a good way.

[wpaudio url=”//idolator.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/04-Track-04.mp3″ text=”Christina Aguilera – Elastic Love” dl=”0″] “A rubber band is what I call your love for me, cause it comes and goes and pins me like a trampoline,” talks-sings Christina, sounding a bit like Gwen Stefani (but not in any blatant let’s-start-a-feud-with-Gwen way, so retract your claws, folks). We’re just going to blurt it out—we love this song. This 80s New Wave-style synth track is fresh and bouncy and is interestingly bereft of Aguilera’s power notes she’s known for. It’s a unique change of pace that doesn’t feel forced in any way.

It’s interesting that M.I.A. is a co-writer on “Elastic Love,” because we don’t think it necessarily reminds us much of her music (whereas the Santigold-written opener “Bionic” has tinges of Maya Arulpragasam’s darker electro sound). But it’s definitely a departure for Christina, or Xtina, or any other adopted phase the pop star has sported throughout her career. It doesn’t sound much like anything on Top 40 radio at the moment, either, so we hope it  gets a shot at being a single.

(If we have but one complaint, it’s this dumber-than-dumb lyric: “A rubber band was an analogy, you could even say it’s a metaphor.” Yeah, Christina. We got that.)

[wpaudio url=”//idolator.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/16-Track-16.mp3″ text=”Christina Aguilera – I Hate Boys” dl=”0″] The track, allegedly produced by Polow Da Don, begins pretty much ripping off the opening drum beat to Katy Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl” and sounds almost directly inspired by the trash-talk obnoxiousness found in Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend.” We think Avril is too old to be chanting such schoolyard insults, so just imagine how disappointing it is to hear a 29-year old do the same thing, but in an even less sophisticated way.

In the song, Christina claims that “all men are dogs” and that guys are “only good for fruit, I mean bananas, them boys they’re driving me bananas.” (Yes, she just rhymed bananas with bananas.) It’s one of those pandering songs that will no doubt have young girls singing along, particularly the chorus, “I hate boys, but boys love me, I think they suck and my friends agree.”

It comes off like a song about female empowerment on the surface, but really, it’s just a hate-driven song about ridiculing all men. What happened to Christina’s positive outlook about the male race in “Ain’t No Other Man” or “Candyman”? We know “I Hate Boys” is just a song, but it’s a lazy one that leaves rubs us the wrong way.

So basically, these two tracks highlight the best and the worst you’ll find on Bionic . Is that good enough to motivate passing Christina fans to pick up her album June 8? We’ll have to wait and see.

However, there has been speculation that the disappointing response to Aguilera's new album and poor sales of concert tickets are the real reason for the cancellation.
Could poor ticket sales be the real reason ?

There has been rumors, but nothing confirmed! Of course there are rumors but doesnt mean its real! ny2ny2

Four of the venues she was performing at equaled bionics first week sales, if people aren't buying her album they're nothing to see her show. And that's exactly why she won't tour arenas for lotus.

I'm not doubting poor sales, but both of those articles are assuming that's why it was cancelled.

Oh well; it was 2.5 years ago.

tbh, the main reason is her divorce and not enough rehearsals for the show, because she cancelled the tour and went to Italy to try and fix between them.

Bionic Woman: Eick Says Series Cancelled, But Jaime May Return Someday

by Trevor Kimball, March 19, 2008

Though Eick had great success working with Ron Moore on the remake of Battlestar Galactica , the new Bionic Woman just wasn’t a success. At Sci Fi Channel’s upfront presentation yesterday, he said, “I just felt that the process was so frustrating, and the conditions under which we were making that show never really came to fruition in such a way that I felt like we could make the show well. The actress [Michelle Ryan] we found was wonderful. Some of the writing was good.”

What I suspect would have helped ratings, actually, is to have stopped attempting to remake that classic (and favored for many of us from that generation) Lindsay Wagner-based show and instead simply introduce another bionic woman…by another name. I mean, the woman who last played Wagner’s iconic, well-developed and most memorable character has so little in common with the 70’s version…to her loss. Nothing against the actress, but the character name, concept and various cheap references made to the original series situations (i.e., making out in a bathroom with a man named Steve and making “the world’s 1st bionic woman” …  Read more »

thanks god , thanks NBC for cancelling this “sucky” show

I’ve only just watched all the episodes of Bionic Woman … NBC are retarded for cancelling it, it had so much potential. It was fantastic … NBC are idiots¬ Enough of the reality shows and bring something decent in. RENEW BIONIC WOMAN!!

When they do make a new bionic man or woman I want that Eick person to have NOTHING to do with it. He seems to be talentless.

I have this to say to NBC enough with the reality shows bring back this show that has great promise. Why can’t you people unerstand that we are tired of watching the biggest loser and deal or no deal BRING BACK BIONIC WOMAN WE NEED SOME GOOD TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don’t cancel this great show. I don’t know about ratings, but its fans WANT MORE…!!!

I can’t understand why you think the show wasn’t a success. A lot of us had began to see the show develop. Come on, find new writers and come back. If you need me, I’ll be glad to write. I promise, it will be the best watched show on TV when I start writing for you. COME ON – let’s get busy people. We need some exciting TV!

I just want to say that i will NOT be watching NBC anymore. I have no reason to. Where’s scrubs? Now i find out that Bionic Woman isn’t coming back? I have to SUFFER that repulsive Howie Mandel a full 7 nights, nope i can’t do that to myself. I don’t understand what’s the point when all you get is Ugly Medium with Patricia Arquette. Yuck, why in all these insufferable years, has she not got a hair cut? I like Office, and Thirty Rock, god love Tina Fey, but im just done. I’ve been completely let down, no will …  Read more »

Ozzy Osbourne cancels 2023 tour dates, says spinal injury means his 'touring days have ended'

Singer Ozzy Osbourne performs at halftime during the NFL game between the Buffalo Bills and the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 8, 2022, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.

Heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne announced the cancellation of his 2023 tour dates in the U.K. and continental Europe.

Osbourne issued a statement early Wednesday saying damage to his spine suffered in an accident four years ago will prevent him from touring.

“I am honestly humbled by the way you’ve all patiently held onto your tickets for all this time, but in all good conscience, I have now come to the realization that I’m not physically capable of doing my upcoming European/UK tour dates, as I know I couldn’t deal with the travel required,” Osbourne said.

The 74-year-old Grammy winner and former vocalist for the metal band Black Sabbath said “my singing voice is fine” but said he remained physically weak following three operations, stem cell treatments, physical therapy and Hybrid Assistive Limb treatment, which uses a robotic exoskeleton to help improve movement and balance.

He thanked his family, fans, band and crew members and fellow metal pioneers Judas Priest.

“Never would I have imagined that my touring days would have ended this way,” Osbourne said. “My team is currently coming up with ideas for where I will be able to perform without having to travel from city to city and country to country.”

Ticket refunds will be available at the point of purchase, the statement said.

Osbourne  previously canceled tour dates  in Europe and North America in 2019 due to health problems, including a “bad fall” in which he said he injured vertebrae in his neck.

The singer, who enjoyed solo success after leaving Black Sabbath, announced in 2020 that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, a nervous system disorder that affects movement.

Osbourne and the other three members of Black Sabbath were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. Osbourne and his family, including his wife, Sharon, and two of his three children were the stars of their own reality show called “The Osbournes.”

Why the Bionic Woman was Canceled (And Other Secrets Revealed)

January 26, 2024, 3:47 pm 58 Views

The Bionic Woman got it’s start as a spin-off of the 1970s Six Million Dollar Man science-fiction TV series. The show starred Lindsay Wagner as the character Jaime Sommers aka the titular Bionic Woman. Throughout the series, Sommers takes on a variety of special high-risk government missions while using her cybernetically enhanced superhuman powers.

Jaime Sommers is a former pro tennis player who ends up getting critically injured in a freak skydiving accident. Her life is saved by Oscar Goldman and Dr. Rudy Wells, who use several highly-advanced bionic surgical implants, similar to those seen in The Six Million Dollar Man, to give her extraordinary powers like amplified bionic hearing, super strength, and super speed.

She then gets assigned to top-secret missions as an on-call agent of the fictional Office of Scientific Intelligence while simultaneously teaching middle and high school classes in her regular everyday life.

Despite it’s relatively short run, The Bionic Woman was a huge success worldwide. Not only did it see high Nielsen ratings in the US, but it also performed exceptionally well in the UK, where it became the only sci-fi program to reach the number 1 position on TV in the 20 th century. When you consider how popular the iconic BBC sci-fi show Doctor Who was during the same era, that’s quite a remarkable feat.

The series ran for three seasons between 1976 and 1978, first on ABC and then on NBC for it’s final season. Years after it got the ax, a series of three spin-off made for TV films were made between 1987 and 1994. In 2004, a short-lived remake series was produced for the USA cable network, but that show featured very few elements of the original script, instead opting for a much darker vibe. It received generally negative reviews and was canceled after just one season.

As popular as the original Bionic Woman series was, it makes you wonder why it only aired for three seasons. These days, they would have milked the show for everything it’s worth, but apparently, back then, there was more of a ‘quality over quantity’ mentality when it came to hit franchises.

Join Facts Verse as we address why The Bionic Woman was canceled. We’ll also dive into several other little-known secrets about the show that true fans need to know about.

Jamie Sommers First Appeared In The Six Million Dollar Man

As we mentioned in the intro, The Bionic Woman was a spin-off of the equally popular live-action science-fiction adventure series The Six Million Dollar Man. It was on this show that the character of Jaime Sommers was first introduced in the two-part backdoor pilot episode fittingly titled ‘The Bionic Woman’ in 1975. When the show’s producers were casting Jaime, they considered both Stefanie Powers and Sally Field for the role.

Lindsay Wagner’s Contract With Universal

In 1971, Wagner signed a multi-year contract with Universal Studios and proceeded to work as a contract player appearing on several Universal Television LLC productions. She made her primetime network debut in the show Adam-12 in the episode ‘Million Dollar Buff’. Wagner went on to appear in dozens of other shows with Universal, including The FBI, Night Gallery, Owen Marshall: Counselor at Law, and Sarge.

From 1971 to 1975, she appeared in five episodes of the Universal-produced show Marcus Welby MD and another two episodes of The Rockford Files.

When she was cast as Jaime Sommers in The Bionic Woman in 1975, that role was supposed to be the last role that would honor her contract with Universal.

Jamie Came Back From The Dead

In that two-part backdoor pilot episode of The Six Million Dollar where Jaime Sommers is first introduced, Steve Austin, played by the late Lee Majors, travels to his old California hometown of Ojai to purchase a ranch that is up for sale as well as visit his mom and stepdad.

During this outing, Austin rekindles his relationship with his old flame Jaime Sommers who happens to be one of the top tennis players in America. Unfortunately, while out on a skydiving date, Jaime’s ‘chute fails to open, and she plummets helplessly to the hard, unforgiving ground below. In the process, she falls through several tree branches, which presumably saved her from certain death, before smashing abruptly into the ground. She ends up suffering numerous traumatic injuries to her head and extremities.

Steve Austin then makes a heartfelt plea to his old boss, Oscar Goldman, to save poor Jaime’s life by making her bionic like him. Goldman, with the help of Dr. Rudy Wells, then proceed to rebuild Jaime with a handful of cybernetic bionic implants.

In the second part of the duo of episodes, Jaime begins to experience crippling headaches. Dr. Wells determines that her bionic implants are being rejected by her body and that a sizable cerebral blood clot is causing her headaches and other malfunctions.

In a rather dramatic scene, she collapses into Austin’s arms and soon after passes away on the operating table as her body shuts down. Fortunately, that’s not the last that we would see of Sommers, as her character eventually was brought back from the dead for a whole new series.

Her character was so popular that ABC requested for the writers of The Six Million Man to devise a way to bring her back from the grave. In the first episode of the spin-off series, It’s revealed that Sommers was never really dead after all! Shocking right?

Steve was only told that she was dead! He discovers the truth about Jaime when he is hospitalized after severely injuring his bionic legs. Right before slipping into a coma, he catches a brief glimpse of Jaime.

Later, he learns that one of Wells’ assistants, Dr. Michael Marchetti,  had urged Rudy to employ a newly developed cryogenic technique in order to keep Sommers in a state of suspended animation until the cerebral clot can be safely removed. After the clot is taken care of, Jaime is revived successfully.

The Bionic Woman Was A Surprise Hit

The Six Million Dollar Man spin-off series, The Bionic Woman, made it’s debut on ABC in 1976 as a mid-season replacement. Historically mid-season replacements haven’t performed very well in the ratings department, but after the fourteen-episode first season of the show premiered, it became the fifth most-watch show on television for the 1975-1976 season. In fact, it ranked just behind established ratings juggernauts such as Maude, Rich Man Poor Man, All in the Family, and Laverne & Shirley. Even more impressive is the fact that The Bionic Woman outperformed The Six Million Dollar Man that season.

Jaime’s Implants Were Less Expensive Than Steve Austin’s

Adjusted for inflation, the $6,000,000 price tag behind Steve Austin’s implants would be equivalent to more than $36 million today. While that might sound like quite a large sum of money, it should be noted that military technology always runs at a premium. Some experimental military aircraft, for example, cost the government upwards of a billion dollars in modern times.

The actual cost of rebuilding Jaime’s body in The Bionic Woman is never revealed, but there is a line of dialogue in the series that points out that the cost to replace Jaime’s parts was significantly less expensive than the hardware needed to turn Steve Austin into the bionic anomaly that he became, since her parts were, quote, ‘smaller’.

That being said, when the show premiered in Germany, it was billed as Die Sieben Millionen Dollar Frau, which translates somewhat ironically as The Seven Million Dollar Woman.

Jaime Sommer’s Abilities Were Throttled For Believability

To maintain the show’s suspension of disbelief, Kenneth Johnson, the series’ creator and executive producer, laid out a very specific set of limits on Jaime’s abilities.

In one interview, Johnson mentioned that when dealing with the realm of fantasy, if you were to just say that the characters can do whatever they want just because they’re bionic, then things quickly can get out of hand.

To avoid this fate, you have to establish a very tight set of rules to play by. For example, both Steve and Jaime can jump up two stories without breaking a sweat, but they’re unable to do three. Likewise, they can jump down three stories, but they can’t do four. Similarly, Jaime has the ability to flip over a car, but she can’t topple a truck.

These necessary limitations were occasionally implemented into episodes of The Bionic Woman. For instance, in the episode, Kill Oscar, Jaime fights the fembots and has to land a jump that is too far down for her bionic legs to handle. As a result, after making the leap, her legs sustain severe damage, and she’s nearly killed in the process.

The Bionic Woman Was Canceled – Then Renewed

While the series performed well for ABC throughout it’s first two seasons, the network ultimately made the decision not to renew it for a third. At the time, they felt as if it no longer was attracting the specific demographic that they hoped to lure in.

Pouncing at the opportunity, NBC stepped in and picked up the series for a third and final season. That 22-episode season aired from September 1977 to May 1978 and featured a brand new character, Chris Williams, played by Christopher Stone, as a love interest for Jaime.

This addition to the cast was partly due to the change of networks. Since they couldn’t do a crossover with The Six Million Dollar Man, they had to drop Steve Austin from the series’ cast.

Although Steve Austin was out of the picture, leaving Lee Majors high and dry, Richard Anderson and Martin E. Brooks ended up reprising their respective roles of Oscar Goldman and Dr. Rudy Wells, thus becoming the first actors in TV history to play the same characters on two series that aired on two different networks.

The End Of An Era

While The Bionic Woman and The Six Million Dollar Man ultimately ended up airing on two different networks, both shows were simultaneously canceled around the same time in the Spring of 1978. The Six Million Dollar Man ended rather unceremoniously with a standard episode, but to appease longtime fans of the show, The Bionic Woman ended up featuring a more proper resolution to that series.

The last episode of The Bionic Woman, entitled On The Run, sees Jaime coming to terms with the fact that she isn’t quite human. After years of doing nothing but assignment after assignment with OSI, she resigns.

The people in charge, however, decide that Jaime can’t simply be allowed to leave. Instead, they plan on placing her in a safe community where they can keep a watchful eye on her. She ends up going on the run but eventually realizes that she’s still the same person she’s always been and returns back to work with the OSI, albeit with fewer missions and bit more free time for herself.

Years after that final episode aired, three spin-off made-for-TV Bionic Woman films were made between 1987 and 1994 with Wagner and Majors reprising their respective roles. In the end, Jaime and Steve end up becoming the ‘bionic couple’ after exchanging marriage vows.

Unfortunately, that’s about all the time we have for this fact-packed video, but before we sign off, we’d love to hear from you. Were you a fan of The Bionic Woman, and did you know that it was canceled after It’s second season only to be picked up by a rival network for it’s third and final season? Let us know in the comments. And as always, thanks for watching. We couldn’t do what we do without your continued support.

21 Savage concert in Phoenix canceled after 15 minutes. Here's what happened

A concert by 21 Savage at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre in Phoenix was abruptly cut short within minutes of the headliner taking the stage on Saturday, May 11.

Shortly after 11 p.m., 21 Savage shared a post on X , formerly Twitter, saying, “Phoenix yall were so turnt yall broke the power" with a “laughing hard enough to cry” emoji, adding “I promise I’ll be back!”

The venue posted a note on its socials on Sunday saying, “Due to technical issues with the venue, last night's 21 Savage show at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre was unfortunately canceled. Tickets will be refunded automatically."

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

'It was kind of a very surreal experience,' 21 Savage fan says

John Shaff was at the concert with his kids.

“It was kind of a very surreal experience,” he says. “I believe he was into his second, maybe third song and all of a sudden, boom, the lights went and everything went dark.”

After maybe 15 minutes, Shaff says, “You start seeing cops on the stage. It’s like, ‘Well, that’s weird,’ but still super quiet. And everyone’s just kind of waiting."

Eventually, the power was restored to the video monitors on either side of the stage.

“So we were all a little hopeful at that point," Shaff says, "going, ‘OK, they rebooted things.’"

Another 15 minutes passed before a message on the monitors said the concert was postponed.

“This was the surreal part,” Shaff says. “I would not expect the crowd to be as calm as everybody was. But everyone was like, ‘Hmm, OK.’ We filed out and that was it. There was no announcement. Never got an explanation. It was just a very weird experience.”

21 Savage refunds went out the next day

Shaff says his wife bought their tickets through Vivid Seats and received an email Sunday from Vivid saying her account had been credited and she could leave the credit on her account for future use or get a refund.
