You will still see David and Joan travelling on board their holidays (and in David's case occasionally driving), whilst back in the office their daughter Carol is busy arranging the holidays with their team of long standing staff.

In the heart of downtown Ogden, you’ll find artistic expression and creativity everywhere you turn. The Nine Rails Creative District…is the heartbeat of art in Ogden, and at the center is The Monarch.

This multi-use space in a historic building appropriately located at 25th Street and Ogden Ave. houses the funky WB’s Eatery, a wine cafe and coffee house, along with The Art Box , an eclectic combination of gift shop and interactive studio. The Monarch top floor is a versatile event space, but every art lover needs to spend some time in The Monarch exploring the dozens of working studios of Ogden artists. Because these are working studios, there are no set hours and the best chance to find the majority of them open is during Ogden’s First Friday Art Stroll every month. However, on any given day, you’ll find painters, sculptors, letterpress operators, podcasters, potters, photographers and other artists diligently creating. If the sliding door to their studio is open, it’s generally accepted that you can step inside to look around or chat with the artist. If it’s not, it’s generally best to let them work.

From The Monarch, it’s an easy stroll to take in several outdoor murals, dozens of Ogden’s famous painted horses and street pianos that are out and about through the summer, a few more galleries, like the Eccles Community Art Center at 26th Street and Jefferson Ave. or Argo House …another active, creative workspace. Pop into Cuppa or back to WB’s for a quick bite when you start feel the urge.

Halfway between Southern Utah’s “Mighty 5” National Parks and Yellowstone, lies Ogden, Utah.

Day trip to Suzdal from Moscow: transport, sights, maps and tips

 DAY TRIP TO SUZDAL

  Suzdal is one of the most popular destinations on the Golden Ring and the whole city is often described as an open-air museum.  The city has no railway station and practically no heavy industry, meaning that is has preserved its provincial charm and a great deal of architectural monuments.

  From Moscow, Suzdal is not as easy to get to as Sergiev Posad (the closest Golden Ring city to the capital) but it is worth going the extra distance as Suzdal provides more of a contrast from Moscow.  If you make use of high-speed trains it is possible and not too demanding to visit for even just a day, but of course spending the night there is recommended to soak in the atmosphere or to combine it with a visit to neighbouring Vladimir.  As the city is a very popular tourist destination you will have no problem finding a cafe or guesthouse there.  There is practically no public transport in the city, but the city is small and most sights are located relatively close to each other.

Direct to Suzdal

  Buses directly to Suzdal leave from Moscow’s Schyolkovsky Bus Station.  There are about 9 buses a day and it takes around 4½ hours depending on traffic.  The buses stop at Vladimir too.  Using this option will mean a rather exhausting day trip.

Orientation and Main Sights

  Suzdal is a relatively small city and it is not difficult to walk around the city to see most of the sights.  

  The main road in the city is Ulitsa Lenina which runs north across the whole city.  

  The main sights of Suzdal are located either on or just off this road, including the two main sights: the Suzdal Kremlin in the south and the Spaso-Yevfimiev Monastery in the north.

  Suzdal is famous for its medovukha (mead) which is an alcoholic drink made out of honey.  It can be drunk either hot or cold, meaning it perfect in both summer and winter, and you will find it on practically every menu in the city.  There are various flavours of the drink available and even a non-alcoholic version.  In addition to medovukha, you can find all traditional Russian souvenirs in the city and there is a big souvenir market on Torgovaya Ploschad.

David Cameron under fire for hiring £42m luxury jet for central Asia tour

Foreign secretary’s use of Embraer Lineage 1000 follows £348,000 bill for James Cleverly’s eight-day trip in similar plane in 2023

David Cameron has been criticised for hiring a luxury jet worth an estimated £42m for a recent tour of central Asia.

The foreign secretary travelled on the Embraer Lineage 1000 for a five-day visit to Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Mongolia last week, the Mirror reported.

Union Aviation, the charter firm that operates the jet, said on its website that a sommelier helps pick the onboard wine selection and that it provides a food menu suitable for “the most demanding passengers”.

The plane’s other features include its own dining table, in addition to a separate relaxation zone with extra-long sofas.

The shadow attorney general, Emily Thornberry, posted on X: “I get that David Cameron may need to charter a plane when travelling to multiple countries in one week, but that does not justify spending hundreds of thousands of pounds at taxpayers’ expense to hire one of the most luxurious private jets on the market.”

Prior to Cameron’s tour, the government said the foreign secretary would use the visit to promote opportunities for British businesses and announce £50m of new funding to support the sovereignty and independence of states across the region.

A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesperson said: “The foreign secretary’s job requires him to travel abroad to pursue the UK’s interests. This was the most time effective way to do this in this instance. Value for money is taken into account in all travel decisions and costs are routinely published for transparency.”

Last year, Cameron’s predecessor James Cleverly was criticised for a bill of about €400,000 (£348,000) when he used the same type of plane for an eight-day tour of the Caribbean and Latin America.

Rishi Sunak has also been criticised for his fondness for short-distance air travel for journeys within the UK.

In February 2023 the prime minister travelled to London from Dorset by helicopter and flew back to south-west England by jet the next morning, Downing Street said.

The previous month, Sunak took domestic flights in RAF jets three times in 10 days . He took a 40-minute flight on a 14-seat aircraft to an event in Blackpool, Lancashire, where he took questions from the public. It came after flights to Scotland and Leeds.
