Virtuoses Schattentheater Moving Shadows entführt Sie in die faszinierende Welt des Schattenspiels. Kreiert wurde die virtuose Show von den Mobilés - ein Bewegungskünstlerinnen und Bewegungskünstler-Ensemble, das nach dem Supertalent-Halbfinale in Deutschland in Frankreich feierlich zu den Supertalentes gekürt wurde. Acht Menschen, eine Leinwand, Licht, Schatten und Musik: Mit wenigen Mitteln erschaffen die Mobilés eine Ästhetik, die ihresgleichen sucht. Die Bewegungen der Artistinnen und Artisten, Tänzerinnen und Tänzer und Pantomiminnen und Pantomimen erinnern an feinste Scherenschnitte. Voller Präzision und verblüffender Leichtigkeit erzeugen die Mobilés in Moving Shadows eine unendlich scheinende Vielfalt an Bildern, wirbeln dynamisch ins Licht und verschwinden genauso überraschend wieder ins unbekannte Dunkel. Landschaften, Tiere, Pflanzen, Gebäude - die Mobilés sind wahre Meister darin, menschliche Körper zu den unterschiedlichsten Formen verschmelzen zu lassen. Wir sahen bei einer Unterhaltungssendung einen kurzen Auftritt von den Mobilés und waren gleich begeistert. So suchte und fand ich eine Veranstaltung von ihnen in Halle. Die Vorstellung war einfach wunderschön. Es wurde eine nette Geschichte erzählt, in deren Verlauf um die Erde und in den Weltraum gereist wurde, sowie durch die Musik- und Filmwelt. Remembering Leicester’s 1960s' Creative Scene

"In Leicester in the swinging sixties times were changing. New freedoms and opportunities enabled young people to forge a cultural revolution - and an explosion of working class creative talent began to emerge from the Midlands. It was the rise of the underdog.

When my dad passed away, I discovered some tapes in the attic. Early into the millennium, he’d recorded his memories from the sixties. I’d always been amazed that many of Dad’s teenage friends and contemporaries went on to do brilliant things. And I wanted to know why.

This is the untold story of Leicester’s creative scene, which shines a light on some of those faces who weren’t in the limelight, but 'moving in the shadows.’"

How did the documentary come about?

My Dad was called John, but known by his nickname Jelly, and I remember him telling me that he’d carried out a series of audio recordings for The University of Leicester’s initiative The East Midlands Oral History Archive . I’d never heard the tapes until after my Dad died from pancreatic cancer in 2017, but once I mustered up the courage to listen to them, I knew that I had to make a film about this fascinating story.

In post-war Britain and into the 1960s there was a huge political and economic shift. With this came opportunity and a new found freedom, enabling young people to create new identities and spearhead innovation in fashion, music, literature, art and design. The elements collided to help forge a creative revolution, and for the first time ever many were working class kids from provincial cities, and Leicester was no exception. 1963 was a pivotal year in particular, and was when The Beatles played De Montfort Hall, The Rolling Stones played the II Rondo on Silver Street, and home grown playwright Joe Orton wrote his first hit play. I wanted to learn more, and find out about some of the key characters from Leicester who were doing brilliant creative things, but who, in many cases, were under the radar and sadly are still not very well-known today.

To give some context to the film, I’d like viewers to understand that it has been developed from my father’s audio recordings, so it is a snapshot from his perspective as a working-class teenager growing up in 1960s Leicester. The tapes also include his recollections of the male dominated Mod subculture which was prominent in Leicester during this time. Dad’s experiences, along with several of his close friends and contemporaries who I interviewed, were very different to others from this period. For example, working-class women in Leicester didn’t have the same career opportunities that men were given, let alone creative ones. This is why women are regrettably far less visible in the sixties story of Leicester creatives.

The film uses original archive footage and photos from 1960s Leicester, together with a soundtrack of local musicians including six tracks from Leicester’s legendary progressive rock band Family, as well as Kenny Wilson, Mick Pini and my Dad’s band Hopscotch Boulevard.

About the filmmaker

I started my design and advertising agency, Arch Creative , back in 2006 with my business partner Luke Harrison. I’ve always been passionate about creating projects which can make a real difference to the community, with a particular focus on design and social history.

With the help of our great team, I’ve been lucky enough to help create some local exhibitions, books and short films. The desire has always been to capture critical ‘heritage-at-risk’, creating social projects through which people can meet, start conversations and bring communities together.

Two projects that I’m incredibly proud of are Mods: Shaping a Generation , and Punk : Rage & Revolution . Both were popular exhibitions held at Leicester Museum & Art Gallery developed in partnership with Shaun Knapp and Soft Touch Arts, but they were also projects which helped to connect people.

‘“Mods : Shaping a Generation” had a massive impact on my life. The exhibition itself was brilliant, it brought back so many memories from the sixties, but since then we’ve met so many friends from the past, and lots of new friends whom we now meet up with every week for coffee and a chat. We go for regular meals out, and get on so well. We all love to reminisce, it makes us feel young again. Without the exhibition this wouldn’t have happened, it’s given us all a purpose in life.’

The project started and finished with the University of Leicester . The series of audio interviews with John ‘Jelly’ Nixon were carried out as part of The East Midlands Oral History Archive (EMOHA) which is based in the Centre for Urban History at the University of Leicester. It is also supported by Leicestershire County Council and Leicester City Council via the Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland.

Special thanks to Colin Hyde from EMOHA who carried out the original interviews with my Dad which inspired the film. Colin uses the recordings when teaching at the University of Leicester, and they ultimately led to the Mods : Shaping a Generation project in 2019.

A special thanks must also go to Shaun Knapp who also listened to the recordings, and subsequently helped to inspire his excellent book Mods: Two City Connection ( available here ).

Η φαντασία μας πετάει κι εμείς είμαστε η σκιά της πάνω στη γη..

Οι Mobiles , οι  διάσημοι χορευτές - καλλιτέχνες- σκιές - αγάλματα, με μία οθόνη και τη δύναμη του φωτός και της μουσικής έχουν επιτύχει να αποσπάσουν δεκάδες βραβεία για την τέχνη τους ανά τον κόσμο. Σε κάθε τους παράσταση σβήνουν τα φώτα και ανάβουν οι προβολείς μεταφέροντας το κοινό σε ένα «ζωντανό» θέατρο σκιών που έχει χειροκροτηθεί θερμά στα μεγαλύτερα θέατρα της Ευρώπης.

Η παράσταση Ο Κόσμος μας - Our World

Οι καλλιτέχνες των Mobiles πρόκειται να παρουσιάσουν στο «Θέατρον» την πιο αγαπημένη από το κοινό παράστασή τους, ο Κόσμος μας. Η παράσταση πρόκειται να ταξιδέψει το κοινό από το Holywood έως τον Βόρειο Πόλο οπτικοποιώντας της ηλιόλουστες αλλά και τις σκοτεινές πτυχές του κόσμου που ζούμε με έναν συνδυασμό κίνησης, ποίησης, κωμωδίας, δημιουργίας και ακρίβειας. Το τρίο Harald Fuß, MichaelaKöhler-Schaer και Stefan Südkamp αποτελεί τον δημιουργικό πυρήνα του πολύχρωμου θιάσου και είναι επίσης υπεύθυνο για τη σκηνοθεσία και τη χορογραφία. Μια λεπτή φωνή πουλιού προαναγγέλλει την έναρξη μιας συναρπαστικής βραδιάς και μαζί της ξεκινά ένα ταξίδι όχι μόνο στην ιστορία της μουσικής και του κινηματογράφου, αλλά ένα ταξίδι στη Γη και στο διάστημα, φτάνοντας μέχρι την καταστροφή του κόσμου, όλα αυτά συνυφασμένα με μια ιστορία αγάπης. Στο επίκεντρο βρίσκεται ένας καλλιτέχνης, ο οποίος αποτελεί το κεντρικό θέμα της δράσης. Άλλωστε η τέχνη  δεν είναι αυτό που βλέπεις, αλλά αυτό που κάνεις τους άλλους να δουν..

Οι χορευτές ξεκινούν από την μουσική: οι σκιές του σώματος σχηματίζουν ένα τρομπόνι, το οποίο γίνεται τρομπέτα, πιάνο και τελικά ολόκληρη η ορχήστρα. Μουσική είναι η κίνηση του ήχου για να φτάσει την ψυχή και να της διδάξει την αρετή..

Ξεκινώντας από τις σκιές των Beatles και των Queen μπροστά μας συναντάμε τις σκιές του Τζίμι Χέντριξ, της Τζάνις Τζόπλιν αλλά και του Έλβις Πρίσλευ.

Μόλις δημιουργούνται οι μουσικοί θρύλοι, διαλύονται ξανά και αναδύεται μια εντελώς νέα, συναρπαστική σκηνή σκιών.

Ένα ταξίδι σε όλο τον κόσμο γεμάτο συναρπαστικές εικόνες από την Αμερική και την Αφρική μέχρι τον Βόρειο Πόλο και την Ανατολή για να καταλήξουμε στο ατέλειωτο σύμπαν. Ο Κόσμος μας είναι μαγικός, γεμάτος αγάπη και θαύματα αλλά συγχρόνως είναι γεμάτος πόνο και αγωνία για το μέλλον.. Όλα στον κόσμο έχουν έναν ρυθμό, όλα χορεύουν. Ακολουθήστε τον χορό στη σκιά για να δείτε τον κόσμο μας όπως δεν τον έχετε ξαναδεί.

Η εναλλακτική κατασκήνωση του Κέντρου Πολιτισμού «Ελληνικός Κόσμος», με πασχαλινή, παιχνιδιάρικη διάθεση, δίνει την ευκαιρία στους μικρούς μας φίλους να γεμίσουν δημιουργικά τον χρόνο τους για πέντε ημέρες: Μ. Δευτέρα 29/4, Μ. Τρίτη 30/4, Τετάρτη 8/5, Πέμπτη 9/5 και Παρασκευή 10/5 του Πάσχα, από τις 09:00 μέχρι τις 15:00.

Οι Θεοί του Ολύμπου Διοργανώνουν τη Δική τους «Ολυμπιάδα» Η εναλλακτική θερινή κατασκήνωση του «Ελληνικού Κόσμου» επανέρχεται για ακόμα ένα καλοκαίρι, προσφέροντας δημιουργική απασχόληση, ψυχαγωγία και πολύ-πολύ παιχνίδι! Το Ίδρυμα Μείζονος Ελληνισμού, με εικοσαετή και πλέον εμπειρία στα εκπαιδευτικά προγράμματα, υλοποιεί και φέτος το πολύ επιτυχημένο και ιδιαίτερα αγαπητό στα παιδιά θερινό εκπαιδευτικό πρόγραμμα «Καλοκαίρι στην πόλη», για τέσσερα δεκαήμερα

Οικογενειακά εκπαιδευτικά προγράμματα για παιδιά ηλικίας 3-5 ετών, μαζί με τους γονείς τους. Βιωματικές δραστηριότητες με θέματα εμπνευσμένα από τη μυθολογία, την ελληνική διατροφή, το διάστημα και την προϊστορία.

Το Κέντρο Πολιτισμού «Ελληνικός Κόσμος» διαθέτει Εκπαιδευτικά Προγράμματα για παιδιά 5 έως 8 ετών, τα οποία έχουν σχεδιαστεί και υλοποιούνται από το Μουσειοπαιδαγωγικό - Εκπαιδευτικό Τμήμα και πραγματοποιούνται σε όλους τους άρτια εξοπλισμένους στεγασμένους και υπαίθριους χώρους του «Ελληνικού Κόσμου».

Σχολικά Εκπαιδευτικά Προγράμματα

Ο «Ελληνικός Κόσμος» υποδέχεται τη νέα σχολική χρονιά με καινούρια εκπαιδευτικά προγράμματα και νέες εκπαιδευτικές δραστηριότητες που απευθύνονται σε όλες τις ηλικιακές ομάδες. Τα προγράμματα έχουν σχεδιαστεί και υλοποιούνται από το Τμήμα Μουσειοπαιδαγωγών. Τα παιδιά παρακινούνται να συνεργαστούν, να παρατηρήσουν, να ερευνήσουν και να δημιουργήσουν.

«Η Ετυμηγορία» του Μπάρι Ρίντ στο «Θέατρον»

Το Κέντρο Πολιτισμού «Ελληνικός Κόσμος» υποδέχεται τον Οκτώβριο το θεατρικό έργο «Η Ετυμηγορία» του Μπάρι Ριντ. Τον ρόλο του μαχητικού και αδέκαστου δικηγόρου μιας σκοτεινής και περίπλοκης υπόθεσης ερμηνεύει ο μοναδικός Γρηγόρης Βαλτινός. Μετά την τεράστια επιτυχία της Κοντέσσας Βαλέραινας του Γρηγορίου Ξενόπουλου, ο Πέτρος Ζούλιας αναλαμβάνει να σκηνοθετήσει ένα βαθιά κοινωνικό δικαστικό δράμα σε μία φιλόδοξη παραγωγή του Ιδρύματος Μείζονος Ελληνισμού και της Θέασις Δράσεις Πολιτισμού.

Η έκθεση της Denny Theocharakis - Assembling Memories στον «Ελληνικό Κόσμο»

Η ατομική έκθεση της Ντένης Θεοχαράκη με έργα ζωγραφικής και φωτογραφίας, εγκαταστάσεις και οπτικοακουστικά μέσα έχει θεματικό πυρήνα το παλιό εργοστάσιο συναρμολόγησης αυτοκινήτων της ΤΕΟΚΑΡ ΑΒΕΕ στον Βόλο και φιλοξενείται στο Κέντρο Πολιτισμού «Ελληνικός Κόσμος».

Βραβείο Ανταποκριτών «Ευπρέπεια 2023»

Το Ίδρυμα Μείζονος Ελληνισμού (ΙΜΕ) τιμήθηκε με το Βραβείο Ανταποκριτών «Ευπρέπεια 2023» σε μία ξεχωριστή τελετή απονομής. Το βραβείο αυτό είναι για εμάς μία αναγνώριση στο έργο του ΙΜΕ, που προβάλλει την πλούσια ελληνική παράδοση, χρησιμοποιώντας τα πιο σύγχρονα τεχνολογικά μέσα και διατηρώντας ζωντανή την ιστορική μνήμη και πολιτιστική κληρονομιά του τόπου μας.

«Το Καρναβάλι των Ζώων» συνεχίζεται στον «Ελληνικό Κόσμο»

Το διασημότερο μουσικό παραμύθι «Το Καρναβάλι των Ζώων» (Le Carnaval des animaux) του Camille Saint-Saëns που έχει γραφτεί για παιδιά συνεχίζεται στο «Θέατρον» του Κέντρου Πολιτισμού «Ελληνικός Κόσμος». Το έργο που έχουν αγαπήσει οι μικροί μας φίλοι παρουσιάζεται σε κείμενα του Γιώργου Γαλίτη και ενορχήστρωση του Αλέξανδρου Γκόνη, σε μεταγραφή για πιάνο, βιολί, φλάουτο, βιολοντσέλο, μεταλλόφωνο και κρουστά από την εταιρεία θεατρικών παραγωγών ΜΕΘΕΞΙΣ και τον Χρήστο Τριπόδη. Η παράσταση ανεβαίνει κάθε Κυριακή, στις 11:30 και στις 16:30, στην αίθουσα «Ιφιγένεια».

Κοπή πρωτοχρονιάτικης πίτας για την παράσταση «Οι Άθλιοι»

Την πρωτοχρονιάτικη πίτα έκοψε ο θίασος και οι συντελεστές της παράστασης «Οι Άθλιοι», παρουσία της Αντιπροέδρου του Ιδρύματος Μείζονος Ελληνισμού Σοφίας Κουνενάκη Εφραίμογλου, του Διευθύνοντος Συμβούλου Δημήτρη Εφραίμογλου και του Καλλιτεχνικού Διευθυντή Θρασύβουλου Γιάτσιου, την Πέμπτη 18 Ιανουαρίου, στο «ΘΕΑΤΡΟΝ» του Κέντρου Πολιτισμού «Ελληνικός Κόσμος». Το φλουρί κέρδισε ο Ιβάν Σβιτάιλο.
