Why We Love This Tour
“Mountains for days . If you want to see the highlights of the Sierras, but also get a little off the beaten path, this tour is an awesome choice.”
**Sample Itineraries: Please note that due to rapidly-changing conditions beyond our control (weather, crowds, traffic) and the small size of our vehicles/groups, we allow our guides the flexibility to tailor your itinerary to best suit the needs of the group. While we guarantee that we’ll do our best to provide you with all of the highlights within this Yosemite and Tahoe Sierras Tour itinerary (conditions permitting), we do not guarantee them in this specific order. **
Day 1 - San Francisco to Yosemite National Park
After departing San Francisco, you’ll head through California’s famous Gold Rush Country, high into the mountains of the Sierra Nevada. Once we reach the drop-off location, you’ll have 4 hours of free time to explore this natural playground. Experience the majestic views from Yosemite Valley with some of America’s tallest waterfalls and towering granite cliffs rising 4,000 feet from the valley floor. You’ll have options to meander or bike down paved paths, hike the trails, engage further with the park’s history at the visitor center, or visit the Ansel Adams Gallery. Just a few hours in the park will show you why the iconic landscapes have been the inspiration for countless artists and photographers dating back to John Muir’s first expeditions in the late 1800s.
After a full day of traipsing around the park, we’ll head to the rustic mountain resort to kick back, have some drinks and share the stories of your day.
Day 2 - Yosemite National Park to Mammoth Lakes via Tioga Pass
Did you catch the scent of a trail you didn’t have time for? This morning you’ll have plenty of time to follow your inspiration. Next, we’ll set off for Yosemite High Country with views like no other.
Prepare to dine among giants as we arrive at a grove of Sequoia trees. You’ll take in the meditative views as next to trees that measure up to 300 feet tall, 30 feet wide, and older than one thousand years.
In the afternoon, you’ll ascend to almost 10,000 Feet (3000+ meters), traversing Yosemite’s Tioga Pass viewing iconic sites like the reflective Tenaya Lake and weaving your way through Tuolumne Meadows before descending the fiercely steep eastern slope of the Sierra Nevadas.
You’ll have some time to explore beautiful Mammoth Lakes, California before hitting the hay. With a hint at its prehistoric past, the name is quite fitting… the size of the mountains, the number of lakes, and the expanse of the valleys. Try your hand at mountain biking or take a scenic Gondola ride up to 11,053 ft (3368 meters) and check out one of the most stunning 360 degree views in California. Explore the geologic, natural, and human history of Mammoth and find out why this is one of the most studied regions in the world.
Day 3 - Mammoth Lakes to Lake Tahoe via Ansel Adams Wilderness Area and Bodie, CA
We’ll continue into the mountains as we connect with the rich history of California’s gold country, passing through some of the first settlements built during the Gold Rush. Take in the earthy forest smell as we make our way to the heart of the park. Your guide will pepper in stories and historical facts about the different sights. Be sure to listen for the logistics as we get ready for the day tour!
Day 4 - Lake Tahoe to San Francisco
As you take in the crisp morning air, your guide will facilitate a personalized adventure schedule! Get up close and personal with Lake Tahoe, the highest alpine lake in the USA either by kayak, stand-up paddleboard. Rent a bike to trundle the paths along the lake’s gorgeous sandy shores. If you would prefer more of a bird’s eye view with panoramic vistas of Lake Tahoe, Carson Valley and the Desolation Wilderness, take the 2.4 mile gondola ride up to Heavenly Mountain resort where you can hike, go tubing, or explore the zipline or ropes course. Having trouble deciding? You always have the option to keep it simple and go on a short hike with the expert direction of your guide.
We’ll wave goodbye to this natural playground as leave Lake Tahoe behind. On our way back to the city by the bay, we’ll pass through the state’s capital city, Sacramento, following the historic Pony Express Trail through El Dorado National Forest. We’ll deliver you back to San Francisco in time for dinner.

Description, fully experience yosemite with an overnight stay.
Pairing our 5-star guided tour with a hotel reservation you have made on your own makes this the ultimate tour to Yosemite National Park. An overnight stay allows you to enjoy towering granite peaks, cascading waterfalls and nature hikes at a leisurely pace and on your own schedule.
The tour begins with a convenient hotel pick up in San Francisco. Sit back and enjoy the scenery as your guide explains what happened in the American River that sparked the California gold rush; the geological forces that created Yosemite’s famous granite monuments; and how John Muir influenced the formation of America’s first protected wilderness.
Be Blown Away by Awe-Inspiring Valley Views
After entering Yosemite National Park, we’ll make our way to a scene made famous by photographer Ansel Adams. Take a moment at Tunnel View. Capture yourself with El Capitan, Half Dome, Sentinel Dome, Glacier Point, and Cathedral Peak as your background.
Once you’ve had your fill of photographs from this perch overlooking the valley, the tour will arrange a memorable stop where you can get eye to eye with wispy Bridalveil Fall.
Get Settled In for a Yosemite Park Adventure
You will arrive in Yosemite Valley with plenty of time left in the day to enjoy free time for hiking to Yosemite Falls, bike riding to Mirror Lake, checking out the Ansel Adams Gallery and more. Then, hop on the YARTS shuttle to make your way to the hotel or lodge you’ve booked in advance.
Between your departure and return days, explore on your own places not possible on a one-day trip to Yosemite. Your tour guide will describe how to hike the Mist, Vernal Fall or Nevada Fall Trails; take a tour to Glacier Point (summer months); raft or swim in the Merced River (summer only); see the night sky like never before; spot local wildlife in the early morning; bike to Curry Village; or visit the Giant Sequoias in Mariposa Grove.

Book With Confidence
Award-winning tours & customer service, money back guarantee, worry free cancellation, 2000+ 5-star reviews, 460,000+ happy guests since 2002, what is the best time of year to visit yosemite valley.
Each season in Yosemite Valley offers its own advantages. Summer is the best chance for sunny and warm hikes, Fall offers peace and solitude at the popular attractions, Winter means a blanket of snow over all the rock monuments and Spring features the peak of the annual Yosemite Valley waterfall show
How can I travel around the park during my free time?
Walking is best form of transportation in the Valley. We do not recommend public transportation or park shuttles during your free time since you cannot be certain about getting back to the tour vehicle on time. The most popular attractions are a short distance from the drop-off point near Yosemite Valley Lodge
Can I use my annual pass for the United States National Parks to enter Yosemite for free?
Sorry, but no. The entrance fee we pay to Yosemite National Park is based on the vehicle and not on the individuals, and the entrance is located at a toll gate – not on foot. Therefore, the tour cost includes the admission fee.
Do you offer this tour in different languages?
Our Yosemite tour has live narration in English, but we offer complimentary recorded audio guides in 8 languages: Spanish, French, German, Italian, Korean, Mandarin, Japanese, and Portuguese. If an audio guide is required, please specify the language when booking
What should I bring with me on tour?
The weather in the Sierra Mountains can be unpredictable and you will be spending 4-5 hours outdoors enjoying nature. We recommend that you dress in layers and wear comfortable shoes or hiking sandals (not flip flops). Bring along a light water-resistant jacket, camera or phone, 1-liter water bottle, hat and sunscreen, sturdy umbrella (if the forecast calls for rain), and some cash or a credit card for meals, snacks and souvenirs.
Are meals included? Can I buy or bring my own?
Meals are not included on this tour. We do make a stop about halfway to and from Yosemite, where you can buy food and beverages. There are a few restaurants and a food court in Yosemite Valley. They are usually crowded, so it’s a good idea to bring or purchase a picnic lunch prior to arriving in the park.
What can I do during my free time in Yosemite Valley?
Nice and easy hikes through Cook’s Meadow or to Lower Yosemite Falls or the Swinging Bridge can all be done during your free time. On clear days, biking to Yosemite Village, Mirror Lake or the Ahwahnee Hotel are great choices. Finally, the Ancel Adams Gallery is a wonderful showcase of the artist’s work. We do not recommend taking the park shuttle since the timing of the return trip can be unpredictable.

Arrival in San Francisco
Fly to San Francisco Airport and transfer independently to your chosen hotel to check in and get a good night’s sleep. We advise you don’t pick up your hire car until you’re ready to move on from San Francisco as you won’t need it in the city.
San Francisco
Chase away any jet lag with a cycle around the city and over the Golden Gate bridge. We can pre-book you bike rental or you may prefer to do this as part of a guided tour to help find your way around this great city. If you haven’t quite got the energy, then maybe book a Segway tour, or simply ride the iconic street cars – a day pass costs just $21. Perhaps the craziest way to explore, is on a “GoCar Tour – drive yourself around in two-seater mini-cars with sat nav showing you the way!
The number one attraction in San Francisco is the prison island of Alcatraz, and if you want to visit then you have to pre-book your ticket as every day is a sell-out. If you’re feeling brave you can choose the night-time option when everything feels even more menacing in one of the toughest prisons in American history. This evening why not take a trip to Chinatown for an Asian feast.
San Francisco – Mariposa - Yosemite National Park – 189 miles
Pick your hire car up then head westwards towards Yosemite National Park. A nice route takes you through the towns of Modesto and Merced with time to stop in Mariposa for lunch. Mariposa is a charming old town dating back to the Gold Rush and retaining much of it’s Wild West character. You are now at the gateway to Yosemite, so you can take your time exploring the town, then later in the afternoon head to your chosen lodge in the park
Yosemite National Park
There are miles and miles of trails in this beautiful national park, so just choose how you want to explore. You can drive to various vantage points to see the massive rock formation El Capitan – taller than the world’s highest building. The other famous granite formation is Half Dome, named after its shape, and located in the east of the park. Described as the ultimate Yosemite day hike, you’ll need to be pretty fit to tackle this one. However there are countless more sedate trails, where you will still see stunning sights and vistas, and you can also hire bikes to explore the thousand square miles of this park.
Another full day to enjoy all that Yosemite has to offer. Perhaps today book a kayak or rafting trip on the Merced River. In Spring it is a gushing torrent fed by the melting snows, by Summer it has calmed down into a gentle free-flowing river ideal for a float-trip downstream. The entire valley is filled with meadows which are just lovely for having a picnic beside the river. There are also beautiful lakes to seek out – the favourites being Mirror Lake and Tenaya Lake.
Yosemite - Tioga Pass – Bodie State Historic Park – Lake Tahoe – 184 miles
Today will be the most spectacular drive of your holiday. Taking Route 120, you will head eastbound to the Sierra Nevada mountains and to the Tioga Pass. This is impassable through the winter, and sometimes the snow doesn’t clear on this mountain pass until well into May or sometimes even June. The road twists and turns through the mountains, and you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of snow-capped peaks and beautiful alpine meadows. There are plenty of places to stop to take in the vistas and take photos. Once you’ve left the park, stop for a bite to eat in Lee Vining as the short detour we recommend on today’s route is Bodie – a ghost town, where you won’t find any eateries. This is California’s official state gold rush ghost town, preserved in a state of “arrested decay” and no commercial buildings. After soaking up the spooky atmosphere, you might want to take one of their ghost tours, continue onto the splendid shores of Lake Tahoe.
Beautiful and vast, Lake Tahoe surrounded by soaring peaks lying between the mountains of the Sierra Nevada and the Carson Range. Wherever you are staying, you will find nearby places to rent bikes, hire kayaks or book a cruise. There are beaches all around the lake, where you can swim and relax. In the south there the tree-lined Pope Beach is a favourite for picnics, Secret Cove is more secluded on the eastern shore and Commons Beach in the north west is family-friendly with a playground and facilities.
Another day to enjoy wonderful Lake Tahoe. Relax, explore, have fun on the water – the choice is yours.
Lake Tahoe – Sacramento – San Francisco International Airport - 188 miles
You’ll be heading home today but if your flight isn’t until the evening, then you could stop off en route to the airport in Sacramento. Enjoy a relaxing few hours, and perhaps a nice lunch, in the Old Sacramento State Historic Park. Located on the river, this 28 acre park is alive with historical attractions from the time of the Gold Rush. Ride in a horse-drawn carriage then wander the boardwalk to find your final lunch spot. Its then just a short drive to San Francisco International Airport and your flight home.

13 of the most beautiful places to see in Northern California
S ummer approaches, guests will arrive and talk turns to top destinations to visit. Recent conversations with my spouse and friends led to a discussion of the most beautiful places in Northern California.
Our criteria included stunning scenery, one-of-a-kind destinations and within a “one tank” drive. To offer both ideas and start arguments, here are our top 13:
Yosemite National Park
Hard to argue with this one: our second US National Park, established in 1890 just after Yellowstone, and is home to stunning views, massive granite obelisks, rushing rivers, and almost over-run with tourists now through September. A way to beat the crowds but gain almost all the dramatic scenery is to visit the Hetch Hetchy Valley , just north of — and the twin to — Yosemite Valley. Hetch Hetchy was dammed for San Francisco water needs in 1923, despite a decade-long battle by John Muir and the Sierra Club, but the valley is still mighty impressive. Visitors can drive to O’Shaughnessy Dam, hike over the dam and down the reservoir’s northside, with views and waterfalls to rival nearby Yosemite Valley.
Calaveras Big Trees
Calaveras Big Trees State Park is home to scores of towering giant sequoias up to 250 feet tall. Largest, in the park’s South Grove, is the Louis Agassiz tree, reaching well over 250 feet in height and 25 feet in diameter. The nearby North Grove is home to the Empire State Tree, almost as large. The park offers brisk, fairly level hiking options, camping among the trees, cabins for rent and tours led by rangers offering big tree’s insight.
Take Tahoe ’s Highway 89, from Camp Richardson north to Emerald Bay, for a most compelling 20 mile drive. Camp Richardson, a well-rounded and historic resort with the adjacent Tallac Historic site (remains of three huge private estates on the lake) and spend a few hours lazing on Baldwin Beach. Our favorite campground, Fallen Leaf Lake, a large Forest Service campground is just north.
Tour north on 89, visit beautiful State Parks like D.L. Bliss and stop for heart-stopping views of Emerald Bay. Hard to envision a more stunning scenic drive.
San Francisco
Our favorite way to visit is to drive to Oakland’s Jack London Square, park and walk a few blocks to the ferry terminal for a scenic cruise over to San Francisco’s waterfront. Your ferry makes a quick stop in Alameda, then churns its way across the bay, under the Bay Bridge, offering wonderful views of the San Francisco skyline to your portside, with Oakland’s busy waterfront and Treasure Island to starboard. The ferry docks at the historic Ferry Building, 123 years old and revitalized in 2003. Grab lunch at Hog Island Oyster Company, then either walk or take an historic trolley along the Embarcadero to Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf.
After an energetic day, return to Oakland via another ferry departing Pier 41, providing a stunning evening harbor cruise. The ferry trip is a bargain, with seniors half off, and, no pricy parking hassles in SF!
The San Joaquin-Sacramento River Delta
The Delta offers visitors a host of options, from the Cosumnes River Preserve just north of Thornton, to almost anywhere in the Walnut Grove/Locke/Courtland area (take a several mile hike along the Delta Meadows Trail, which starts between Locke and Walnut Grove), or, start in Rio Vista and take me back roads northeast, utilizing the two free auto ferries to Grand Island with stops at Grand Island Mansion and the Ryde Hotel.
Eastern Sierra, along Highway 395
From Bodie south to Manzanar, this road takes you to a host of wonders, starting with Bodie, perhaps the west’s most impressive ghost-town, to Mono Lake with its eerie tufa towers rising out of the serene lake like ghostly pirate ships, and Manzanar, the World War II camp, where, sadly, almost 10,000 Japanese-American citizens were interred during the war. All down the highway, one has the mighty Sierra, the “Range of Light” as John Muir described it, rising abruptly to the west for unparalleled views and photo ops.
Wine country
Vineyards will always get a vote, often for Lodi/Woodbridge, but consider a drive into the Sierra foothills for the more laid-back and beautiful Shenandoah Valley just above Plymouth off Highway 49. With 30 vineyards sandwiched among the rugged Sierra foothills, the views are superior and the large variety of wines and down-home appeal of the local wineries make for a special place. Gold rush favorite Fiddletown is just to the south, for extra interest.
Space precludes our final recommendations, including Highway 49, the Gold Rush Highway, Pt. Reyes National Sea Shore, the Big Sur Coast, the Pinecrest area on Highway 108 and Lassen National Park. We’ll be back with more insight on these next week. Oh, and what did we miss?

Emerald bay state park.
Lake Tahoe Scenic Drive

Yosemite National Park is breathtaking. As I walked along the hikes that we went on, many times I did not know which direction to look since there was so much natural beauty.

Yosemite Escape Camping - 3 Days
This was a great trip. I thoroughly enjoyed the scenic views. Our tour guide Rourke, was very knowledgeable and accommodating. This was a hiking trip and in my opinion if you didn’t want to hike, you could do a nature walk. That was the best option for me because the hikes were a little too strenuous for me but I purchased a tripod just for this trip. All the beautiful photos I have of the walks through Yosemite are my memories for a lifetime. The camping grounds were stellar. Waking up to a delicious breakfast and beautiful scenery, I was blessed to have done this tour.

Hiking in Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada
The trip was well coordinated. Our trip had to be re-routed due to the very snowy winter, but our tour guide, Phil, still managed to keep our days full, and our hikes about the same mileage that we would have walked otherwise. The hikes were moderate to steep, nothing that our entire group could not keep up with. I felt that everyone was accommodated to. And we went to our rooms at night exhausted from our days journey. Yosemite is a must-do, if you have never been there. The pictures do it no justice. Having the tour guide from intrepid was great, because he told us all about the history of the National Park- things that I would have walked right by if I were hiking alone. This trip was great! can’t wait until the next one.

What people love about lake tahoe tours.
Yosemite tour was amazing. Choice of lodging needed to be different. Too far out of the way which caused a lot of extra driving. A hotel which was previously used would have been better. And virtually no response to questions thru the Tour Radar app. Had to take care of extra nights stays & transportation myself when the app stated that they would assist with it.
Allen was a fantastic guide for an absolutely beautiful area. He struck the balance of being fun and welcoming with interesting facts about places we visited whilst allowing us independence and creating a relaxed environment in the van. I can’t thank him enough for one of the best trips I’ve been on!
Annie was our guide, and she did an excellent job! The trip was very well organized, and Annie was very friendly, helpful & informative. I would highly recommend this trip and we enjoyed the camping option. You get a lot of "spare time" in Yosemite Valley and Annie helped us with which hikes, activities etc to do. This trip is one of our favorite ones we have done with a tour company!

Beautiful campground with great facilities and right across from the lake with a nice beach. Matthew was an awesome camp host, so helpful and friendly!! Definitely recommend! (Note: definitely bear country, we saw two at the campground but they were relaxed doing their own thing, so just put your food away always and bring bear spray just in case)
Sunset at the campground

Been coming here for years! Bass has 3 marinas (The Pines being the largest). The beauty is amazing. A little of Yosemite ... Rock formations, green tree and wildlife. Some gorgeous homes am an be rented if you wish, or there are plenty of campgrounds. The lake is not huge... But, you. An find some quiet coves here and there. Just like most places, it can get crowded on the weekends. Lots of beaches, just make sure you are parking legally. Don't miss the FORKS BURGERS! Or, their club sandwich. Delish! Love love this place. Come on over!
Recreation Point!
23 Jun 2021: The lovely weather today welcomed us to Bass Lake. We noticed several people out sailing - but we also noticed that the water level was down to zero in some areas.

We camped at Cedar Bluff Campground last week. We would never camp there again. The campsite itself was quite uncomfortable (little shade, hardly a flat spot to pitch a tent or have table, crowded, toilets are gross). The camp hosts were nice, except the one working at the check in building who was kind of rude. She would not give us any information as I was not the one holding the reservation. The lakeshore is so dirty!!! Really makes me sad to know so many people trash the environment that they want to recreate in. We could walk across the street from the campsite to the shore and there was so much trash. Toilet paper, glass, cans, broken tents, whole trash bags full. It was so disgusting. We camp quite often and have never seen a place so abused. My friends dog stepped on a piece of glass and spent the whole next day in Fresno at the vet to get him stitches. So disappointing. We rented a boat on the other side of the lake. Thank goodness we had that day which saved our weekend. The lake was the prefect temp and the views were nice.
Love, love ,love Bass lake! I get a spa suite at the Pines Resort every year. It is so relaxing and peaceful. At night I enjoy sitting by the water, making a bon fire and star gazing. Only gripe at night time is a ton of raccoons will pop out of nowhere and just be nosy Rosies. But they never get TOO close, it's nature what do you expect? Last year, the lake was devastating to look at; it was virtually empty. Today it was the complete opposite-was absolutely beautiful and the running water was raging! Makes me happy! I must note that Bass lake has a lot of cool little hidden trails along with more popular ones IE. Willow Creek Trail or Mono Trail. Speaking of, I do not recommend the Mono Trail right now. It starts off nice but you will end up in an area that was burned down in the fires and that's just depressing. I think April is a great time to bring the family because the weather is perfect and the crowds are not over bearing like they will be come summer time. You do have to pay $10 in designated parking areas. I just find free parking on the side of the road...

Winter is definitely not the season to visit Bass Lake. But there is something calming about walking the lake bed, something you'll probably miss during the busy seasons. Parking is pretty easy, so no need to worry about finding a spot in the winter. I highly recommend staying on the parts of the lake that are absolutely dry, since some spots might be deeper than they appear. There are some trails nearby if you want a better view of the lake (Glass rock etc.). Last, don't forget to check out the giant fallen tree right across from the gazebo. Nice place to sit and take photos.

Bass lake is a nice getaway from Fresno which is about 30-45 mins away if you are coming from North Fresno or Clovis. It's so nice to be so close to the snow but not actually have to deal with the annoyance of it if you live in the city of Fresno or Clovis. If you are coming from the bay area, you don't go through Fresno, but if you are already in Bass Lake and want to go to the nearest big city Fresno/Clovis is close by for all the usual dining and entertainment options you might be looking for. As for Bass Lake itself, the lake is beautiful and a relief during hot summers. I wouldn't say this place is a hidden gem because everybody in the Fresno metro area of over 1million people know about it, but it definitely is a nice alternative than going to say Tahoe or other lakes in the north valley. Check for events they have during 4th of July and other holidays.
I loved it here, we recently camped here at the Spring Cove site for the weekend while we were visiting Yosemite National Park. Bass Lake is about 30 minutes away from the entrance at Yosemite Park, & from there's it's another hour drive down into Yosemite Village. The camp sites at Spring Cove had picnic tables & a fire pit/grill. The sites are a good space away from other site so you're not too close to other campers, but you're not that far away either. The rest rooms & trash areas were fairly clean, I'm not sure if there was a shower area where we were so we ended up doubling down on the baby wipes for the weekend. The rest of Bass Lake is awesome, the lake itself is pretty big. They have a variety of boat rental options along with a few restaurant/market where you can pick up goods for your camp site Incase you forgot to bring something.

This review is for Lupine-Cedar Bluff Campground: Beautiful campground across from the lake with all the necessary accommodations; picnic table, grill and parking spot at the actual site and restroom, firewood vendor and water source near the campground entrance (no showers at this campground but I heard there is one close by that you can drive to). We stayed at campsite #65 and it was perfect. My puppy love exploring the "woods" and there was enough room for all of our gear without being on top of each other. The camp sites are spaced out well where you don't really see your neighbor unless you are looking for them. The reservations for this campground can be made on line and then you just need to check in with the camp host upon arrival. Really enjoyed our short stay and looking forward to coming back. *Dog friendly (limit 2 per site)!
There are two types of mountain lakes: developed and undeveloped. Most nature lovers prefer the undeveloped ones: no campgrounds, no pavement, trees double as bathrooms, music is provided by birds and not by stereos, and (most important) no rangers. If they must car-camp, make it as primitive as possible. It's no surprise to Yelpers that I am one of this bunch. I also realize that millions of Americans do NOT fall into this category. And for them, there are the developed lakes, with lots of amenities, the more the better. For them, may I present Bass Lake. I live in Northern California, and for us, Lake Tahoe is the premier mountain lake. Tahoe is one of the prettiest lakes in the world, with its legendary clear water and world-class skiing. But South Lake is a textbook example of development gone bad: too many roach motels that are now overpriced, traffic is horrendous, so many regulations that it's nearly impossible for businesses to survive or residents to afford to live there. In my opinion, Bass Lake has Tahoe beat. Bass Lake appears to have gotten the mix just right. Houses and cabins mostly on the northeast shore, both permanent and vacation homes. Campgrounds and picnic areas mostly on the southwest shore. Neither overwhelm the area. I saw just about every form of water recreation in only two hours: swimming, fishing, waterskiing, jetskiing, houseboats, paddleboards, kayaks. The lake is big enough for everyone. (Maybe Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear Lake are similar and do it better, I've never been to either.) Food can be either restaurants or do-it-yourself barbecues. Or you can do like the Hunny did, and just sit there, watching everyone have fun and staring at the pretty pine-covered mountains surrounding the lake. Bass Lake is not a hidden gem by any means. Families have been coming here generations before I discovered it. Unlike Tahoe, which is on one major US highway (50) and several miles south of another (I-80), Bass Lake is at least an hour's drive north of Fresno and 99, so it's not very convenient. It's convenient enough, though, and Oakhurst is an easy drive from the lake if you need supplies. There are limits to the development, therefore overnight spots are in high demand and that means higher prices and you must book months in advance. "But the entrance to Yosemite is only 20 miles away! Why go to a PG&E reservoir when you can go to Yosemite???" I'll simply answer that Bass Lake is not a mere option to settle for because you can't get a campsite in Yo Valley. You can make an entire vacation here, and you and the kids will enjoy it more because you're not fighting the traffic, dust, and weirdos in Yo Valley. It's a stereotypical family vacation on the lake - but it's real, and it's worth it!
Fantastic lake for a swim, fish, boat, waterski, barbecue . . . anything.
