How to get presale access to Taylor Swift's 'The Eras Tour' tickets

Madison Blancaflor

Editor's Note

Presale ticket access to Taylor Swift's new tour kicks off on Tuesday, Nov. 15. But if you check your emails and don't receive confirmation of your Verified Fan presale access code for 10 a.m., there's still hope of getting presale tickets if you have the right credit card.

Taylor Swift announced her 2023 tour earlier this month after her newest album "Midnights" broke multiple records on Spotify and Billboard. "The Eras Tour" is a big moment for Taylor Swift fans — it's her first tour since before the pandemic and the setlist will cover six albums total. She also has some fantastic supporting artists going on tour with her, including Paramore, HAIM and Phoebe Bridgers. A few fan-favorite songs have even been confirmed as part of the setlist, such as "All Too Well (10-Minute Version)."

Tickets to "The Eras Tour" won't go on sale to the general public until Nov. 18, and many Swifties are worried about the probability of snagging a ticket outside of the Verified Fan presale through Ticketmaster. This is in part because ticket prices have been preannounced and prices are relatively affordable — tickets will start at just $49.

Luckily, you don't need to be a mastermind to score tickets. Those who bought tickets for her "Lover Fest" tour (which had to be canceled during the pandemic) and those with Verified Fan presale access will receive earlier access to presale tickets starting at 10 a.m. local venue time on Tuesday. In addition, having the right credit card will still get you presale access starting at 2 p.m. local venue time on Nov. 16 thanks to Capital One Presale .

What is the Capital One cardholder Taylor Swift presale?

Great news for all Capital One cardholders: If you have an eligible Capital One credit or debit card, you'll have access to presale tickets starting Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. local venue time. A range of ticket options will be available during this presale (including premium options), and there is no selection process or special invite needed aside from your card.

All Capital One Visa or Mastercard credit or debit cardholders are eligible for this presale, but private label cards are not eligible.

Here are the steps for getting presale access with your Capital One card:

  • On Nov. 16 just before 2 p.m. local venue time (or anytime throughout the presale window), head to this page and select the concert date and venue you want. That will send you to the Ticketmaster page, where tickets will go live promptly at 2 p.m. local venue time.
  • When asked for the presale code, use the first six digits of your Capital One card.
  • Depending on demand when you log in, you'll be put into a queue to wait for your turn to buy tickets. Do not refresh your page once you get to the queue page.
  • You can select up to six tickets via this presale while supplies last (which means you'll want to grab tickets as early as possible in case they sell out).
  • Once you have your tickets, you must check out using your Capital One card.

What if you don't have a Capital One credit card already? The terms and conditions on the landing page for "The Eras Tour" Capital One presale says, "The Capital One Cardholder Presale is for existing Capital One cardholders. New applicants that have recently applied and have yet to receive card information are not eligible if a new card is received post the Cardholder Pre-sale window or after presale tickets have sold out."

Long story short, this, unfortunately, means that anyone who doesn't already have their Capital One card by now will be excluded from this presale.

However, if you're a regular concertgoer, it might be worth it to look into which cards could get you presale access to future events. For example, eligible American Express cardholders got presale access to Harry Styles "Love on Tour" earlier this year. You can check out our post on how your cards can help you unlock VIP events or learn which cards are best for entertainment purchases (such as concert tickets).

Tips for the Capital One Taylor Swift presale

If you've ever attempted to get highly-sought after concert tickets from Ticketmaster, you know it can feel a bit like the great war navigating the waiting room, queue and then ticket sale process. Having a Capital One credit card for access is only half the battle.

Here are some tips for snagging your tickets without a glitch:

Add your card to your Ticketmaster account in advance

Many people know all too well that almost nothing is worse than logging into a presale event, snagging a place early in the queue, selecting amazing tickets ... and then hitting an error message when trying to load your credit card information.

The best way to avoid this (while also saving time) is to log in early and add the Capital One card you plan to use to access the presale and pay for your tickets as the default payment method on your account. This way, you won't need to input your card details in the moment and Ticketmaster will have your details on file for a faster purchasing experience.

Sign in to Ticketmaster early

The Capital One presale starts at 2 p.m. local venue time (meaning if you live in L.A. and you want to snag concert tickets for Philidelphia, that presale will start at 11 a.m. PT), but you'll want to log into Ticketmaster and navigate to the ticket page at least 30 minutes in advance.

For the Verified Fan presale, participants are usually invited to a "waiting room" up to 30 minutes in advance of tickets going live, which then secures their place in line for the queue. While credit card presale access doesn't always follow that same process, being logged in early and keeping the page up and running while you wait will ensure you do get a spot in the waiting room if there is one.

And even if there isn't a waiting room with this presale, it'll make sure everything is good to go with your account and that you're ready to refresh into the queue as soon as the clock strikes 2 p.m. local venue time.

Check your Wi-Fi

A strong Wi-Fi connection is everything when trying to snag tickets during a competitive presale. The faster your device loads, the better your chances and securing and early slot in the queue and getting the best tickets possible. If you have a friend with stronger Wi-Fi than you, now is the time to ask to crash their couch during the presale event.

If you're on your phone, you might be tempted to forgo Wi-Fi altogether, but if you do have access to a strong Wi-Fi connection, it's better to use that over 4G or 5G service that may lag at an inopportune time.

Memorize your presale code and have your card nearby

Before you are able to buy tickets, Ticketmaster will ask for a "presale code." For this presale, that code is the first 6 digits of your Capital One credit card.

It's not a bad idea to memorize those digits ahead of time for easy entry, but you'll also want to have your card ready to go as you pull up tickets in case you forget the numbers or need to verify your CVV (that 3-digit number on the back of your card).

Consider going mobile

The Verified Fan presale emails recommended hopeful presale ticket buyers to use a deskop rather than the mobile app. However, there is anecdotal evidence that Ticketmaster prioritizes mobile app users over desktop users. While Ticketmaster hasn't confirmed this and there is no hard proof, it's worth considering using your phone instead of a desktop to snag tickets if there's a potential you'll get in faster.

On the other hand, if you have the Rakuten shopping portal plugin, Ticketmaster is often a vendor where you can get additional rewards when shopping through the portal. While I do have Rakuten, I'm personally choosing to prioritize speed over additional rewards — especially since I'll get 2 miles per dollar with my Venture X on my purchase.

Know when to refresh your page (and when not to)

This is a big one. Knowing when to hit refresh and when to have patience can be the difference between getting ticket access in minutes versus hours.

If you are asked to join a waiting room prior to presale access:

Once you are in a waiting room, that automatically puts you in line for the queue. On a desktop, you won't need to refresh your page right at 2 p.m. in order to be moved to the queue page. If you're on mobile, you will need to refresh your screen (don't exit out of the app, simply pull down on the screen for it to reload) for it to send you to the queue.

If there is not a waiting room ahead of tickets going live at 2 p.m. local venue time:

This is where it becomes a race to reload. If there is no waiting room, you're going to want to keep a very close eye on the clock (as in, find a clock with a seconds countdown) leading up to the 2 p.m. start time for the presale.

Starting around 10 seconds before the clock flips to 2 p.m. local venue time, start refreshing your page until you secure your spot in the queue.

Once you are in the queue:

Stay, stay, stay. If your screen has a walking figure on it indicating you are in line for the queue, do not refresh your page. I repeat: Once you're in the queue, do not refresh your page.

Below is an example of what the queue page will look like. Though it's from the Verified Fan presale queue, the Capital One presale queue will look very similar.

taylor swift tour pre sale

When you refresh while in the queue, Ticketmaster will boot you to the end of the line and you'll be forced to begin again.

Once you're in the queue, the only time you should ever reload your page is if prompted by a Ticketmaster error message on your screen that requests you reload your page and try again. Otherwise, trust the process and know that while it might take a while, you are in line and will be prompted to get tickets when it's your turn.

Beware of will call if using someone else's card

If you are using a parent, spouse or friend's card to score tickets, keep in mind that Ticketmaster may end up giving you will-call tickets. Will-call means you'll have to pick up the tickets in person at the box office of the venue the day of the concert — and the person whose name is on the card you used will have to be present with a photo ID and the card itself.

This could be an issue if you (and the person whose name is on the card) live in Arkansas but the concert you are attending is in Nashville, TN, for example.

Of course, you could end up breezing through and getting e-tickets that don't require an in-person pick-up (my little sister has used my card for Harry Styles presale tickets in the past and been just fine). But it's something to keep a lookout for when buying tickets.

Which Capital One card should you use for 'The Eras Tour' presale?

taylor swift tour pre sale

If you have multiple Capital One cards, you might be wondering which card is the best to use on concert ticket purchases.

Your highest cash-back potential comes with the Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Credit Card . You'll get 4% cash back on entertainment purchases — including concert tickets. Alternatively, there's also the no-annual-fee Capital One SavorOne Cash Rewards Credit Card , which earns 3% cash back on entertainment.

The information for the Capital One Savor card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

However, if you're a frequent traveler who prioritizes travel rewards over cash back, you should use either the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card or the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card . They'll each earn 2 miles per dollar spent on your ticket purchase.

After you grab your tickets, also keep in mind that the Venture X also earns 10 miles per dollar spent on hotels and rental cars, and 5 miles per dollar spent on flights booked through the Capital One Travel portal — a solid earning option if you're traveling to one of the concert venues.

Of course, you don't have to have one of these specific cards to get presale access — any Capital One credit or debit card (excluding private label cards) is eligible for access.

Bottom line

For a lot of fans — myself included — Taylor Swift music has been a mainstay throughout the majority of our lives. I first listened to her when "Tim McGraw" made its radio debut, and I've remained a fan throughout every album since. This tour is the culmination of years of new albums and re-releases, a tour bigger than the whole sky for many fellow Swifties. So, getting tickets is likely to be a competitive labyrinth.

If you weren't the lucky one selected for Verified Fan presale but are a Capital One cardholder, you'll still be able to get presale ticket access to "The Eras Tour."

Remember, presale tickets go live Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. local venue time for Capital One cardholders. Set your clocks and get ready to jump then fall so you can get your tickets for the best day.

Until then, you can find me listening to "Midnights" on repeat.

Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour Onsale Explained

ticketmaster statement logo

W e strive to make ticket buying as easy as possible for fans, but that hasn’t been the case for many people trying to buy tickets for Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour. First, we want to apologize to Taylor and all of her fans – especially those who had a terrible experience trying to purchase tickets. Next, we feel we owe it to everyone to share some information to help explain what happened:

We Knew a Record Number Of Fans Wanted Tickets to Taylor’s Tour

  • By requiring registrations, Verified Fan is designed to help manage high demand shows – identifying real humans and weeding out bots. Keeping bots out of queues and avoiding overcrowding helps to make wait times shorter and onsales smoother.
  • Based on fan interest at registration we knew this would be big. Over 3.5 million people pre-registered for TaylorSwiftTix Presale powered by Verified Fan, which is the largest registration in history.
  • Historically, around 40% of invited fans actually show up and buy tickets, and most purchase an average of 3 tickets. Around 1.5 million people were sent codes to join the onsale for all 52 show dates, including the 47 sold by Ticketmaster.
  • The remaining 2 million Verified Fans were placed on a waiting list on the small chance that tickets might still be available after those who received codes had shopped.

The Demand for Tickets to Taylor’s Tour Broke Records – & Parts Of Our Website

  • Historically, we’ve been able to manage huge volume coming into the site to shop for tickets, so those with Verified Fan codes have a smooth shopping process. However, this time the staggering number of bot attacks as well as fans who didn’t have codes drove unprecedented traffic on our site, resulting in 3.5 billion total system requests – 4x our previous peak.
  • We handle onsales for countless top tours, some of the biggest sporting events, and more.  Never before has a Verified Fan onsale sparked so much attention – or traffic. This disrupted the predictability and reliability that is the hallmark of our Verified Fan platform. Here’s a look at how that traffic compared to every other day on our site this year:

Taylor swift the eras tour average traffic map

  • It usually takes us about an hour to sell through a stadium show, but we slowed down some sales and pushed back others to stabilize the systems. The trade off was longer wait times in queue for some fans.
  • Overall, we estimate about 15% of interactions across the site experienced issues, and that’s 15% too many, including passcode validation errors that caused fans to lose tickets they had carted.

Despite the Disruptions a New Sales Records Was Set

  • Over 2 million tickets were sold on Ticketmaster for Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour on Nov. 15 – the most tickets ever sold for an artist in a single day.
  • All 2 million tickets for the Verified Fan onsale were sold to Verified Fans. Only ticket buyers who were verified were permitted to enter a queue. Verification is tied to a user’s account and validated at login, which is why users only had to login to enter the queue. For additional security, ticket buyers also had to enter their unique code to complete their purchase. No one who wasn’t verified was allowed to enter the queue, but the huge traffic hitting the site overall meant we had to slow down queues to keep them stable.
  • 2.4 million tickets have been sold for the tour overall across onsales for Verified Fans and Capital One cardholders, on both Ticketmaster and SeatGeek.
  • Less than 5% of the tickets for the tour have been sold or posted for resale on the secondary market. Onsales that don’t use Verified Fan typically see 20-30% of inventory end up on secondary markets.

The biggest venues and artists turn to us because we have the leading ticketing technology in the world – that doesn’t mean it’s perfect, and clearly for Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour onsale it wasn’t. But we’re always working to improve the ticket buying experience. Especially for high demand onsales, which continue to test new limits.

We’re working to shore up our tech for the new bar that has been set by demand for the Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour. Once we get through that, if there are any next steps, updates will be shared accordingly.

Even when a high demand onsale goes flawlessly from a tech perspective, many fans are left empty handed. For example: based on the volume of traffic to our site, Taylor would need to perform over 900 stadium shows (almost 20x the number of shows she is doing)…that’s a stadium show every single night for the next 2.5 years. While it’s impossible for everyone to get tickets to these shows, we know we can do more to improve the experience and that’s what we’re focused on.

Ticketmaster is the world’s largest ticket marketplace and the global market leader in live event ticketing products and services. Through official partnerships with thousands of venues, artists, sports teams, festivals, performing arts centers and theaters, Ticketmaster processes 500 million tickets per year across 30+ different countries. Ticketmaster is a part of Live Nation Entertainment (NYSE: LYV).

Taylor Swift is, at long last, headed back on the road. Following this week’s monumental chart debut of Midnights , her tenth studio album, Swift announced the U.S. leg of her 2023 Eras tour on Tuesday morning (Nov. 1), confirming her first official tour in nearly five years following months of rumors.

“I wanted to tell you something that I’ve been so excited about for a really long time. I’ve been planning for ages and I finally get to tell you: I’m going back on tour,” Swift said on GMA . “The tour is called the Eras tour and it’s a journey through all of the musical eras of my career.”

Taylor Swift Is ‘IN SHAMBLES’ Over ‘Midnights’ Dominating the Hot 100 Top 10

Swift said that after kicking off in the U.S., the tour will go on an international swing, with those dates to be announced soon.

Support on the tour will come via a rotating cast of opening acts including Paramore, beabadoobee, Phoebe Bridgers, girl in red, Muna, Haim, Gayle, Gracie Abrams and Owenn. The public on-sale date for the tour will be 10 a.m. local venue time on Nov. 18. Swift has partnered with Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program, with fans able to register here for the TaylorSwiftTix presale now through Nov. 9 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Registered fans will get a code with exclusive access to purchase tickets on Nov. 15 starting at 10 a.m. local venue time.

Previous Lover Fest Verified Fan purchasers will get preferred access to participate in the TaylorSwiftTix presale; make sure to register with the same Ticketmaster Account as your Lover Fest purchase. Capital One cardholders will have priority access to purchase tickets on Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. local venue time through Nov. 17 at 10 p.m. local venue time or until supplies last.

Swift’s planned follow-up to the Reputation tour, Lover Fest, was scheduled to take place in 2020 following the 2019 release of her Lover album, but was canceled due to the pandemic. Since the Reputation tour, Swift has released four original studio albums — Lover , 2020’s Folklore and Evermore , and Midnights — as well as two re-recorded albums, Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version) , both in 2021.

This week, Midnights blasted in atop the Billboard 200 albums chart with 1.578 million equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending Oct. 27, according to Luminate — the biggest week for any album in nearly seven years. Meanwhile, Swift made history on the Hot 100 by becoming the first artist to claim the chart’s entire top 10 in a single frame, with “Anti-Hero” debuting at No. 1 to become her ninth career chart-topper.

u.s. american stadium tour 2023

Taylor Swift announced Tuesday morning her long-rumored return to the road, with an outing dubbed the “ Eras Tour ” scheduled to hit U.S. stadiums beginning in March 2023 and running into August, with international dates set to be revealed later.

The support acts are very much all about the sisterhood, with a host of acts Swift has championed in the past. Opening acts for the U.S. leg of the tour are Paramore , Haim , Phoebe Bridgers , Beabadoobee, Girl in Red, Muna, Gayle, Gracie Abrams and Owenn.

The tour starts March 18, 2023 in what is apparently a sweet spot for Swift, Glendale, Ariz., the same place her last outing, the pre-pandemic “Reputation” tour, began in 2018.

Popular on Variety

As for which album we can consider the tour to be supporting, since she has released four original studios albums since her last tour? All of them. Swift described the tour as “a journey through the musical eras of my career (past and present!),” with a graphic showing her look from different phases of her career.

See the full itinerary, with color-coded graphics indicating which of the nine opening acts got the gigs in which cities:

The public on-sale happens at 10 a.m. local time on Nov. 18. As with all major tours nowadays, there will be an earlier rollout of tickets for credit card members, in this case holders of Capital One cards, beginning Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. through Nov. 17 at 10 p.m. local times.

As with her previous tour, there will be a Ticketmaster Verified Fan program “to ensure tickets get into the hands of fans.” Aspiring ticket buyers can register for the setup now through Nov. 9 here .

Unusually in the modern era of variably priced “platinum tickets” where fans get little information about set ticket prices, Swift has announced the cost of her tickets in advance. They run from $49 up to $449, with VIP packages that start at $199 and go up to $899.

Swift’s announcement promised that international dates are to follow.

There was an attention to detail in the tour announcement even in the graphics signifying the opening acts at different spots in the tour routing, with Bridgers, for instance, being represented by a tiny ghost, in honor of the skeleton costume she’s used on her own headlining tours.

Not accidental, probably, is how that same graphic breaks the tour itinerary down into two columns of 13 dates each. There will be 27 shows in 20 cities. The venues getting a two-night stand are in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Chicago, as well as Arlington, Texas; Foxborough, Mass.; and East Rutherford, N.J.

The reception for “Midnights” upon its October release left no doubt just how strong the appetite for Swift tickets will be. It had the biggest week since Adele’s “25” album, per Luminate this week, with 1,578,000 album-equivalent units. Additionally, it was announced Monday that for the first time in history, all 10 top slots of the Billboard Hot 100 were filled by a single artist’s songs, with “Anti-Hero” leading the way at No. 1. Fans very much wanted the full album, anyway — of the nearly 1.6 million album units registered for “Midnights,” 1,140,000 were copies purchased in the form of the full album. It became Swift’s fifth album, out of her 10 original studio releases overall, to sell a million-plus copies in the first week out. The figure also represented the best first-week sales for an album by any performer since “Reputation” came out of the gate with 1,216,000.

The “Eras Tour” is being produced in-house by Taylor Swift Touring and promoted by the Messina Touring Group.

The tour’s opening acts expressed their enthusiasm in their own ways, such as the tweet from Muna that declared the group “gay for Tay” and pictured the trio in miniature, resting atop Swift’s lighter on the “Midnights” album cover.

Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour Verified Fan Onsale is using registration to ensure more tickets get into the hands of fans who want to go to the shows, not buyers looking to resell them.

Only fans that receive an email confirming their access will be able to join the queue for this Verified Fan Onsale. Fans who are selected will receive additional instructions on Wednesday, November 8. All others will be put on a waitlist.

Tickets for these shows will be in high demand, therefore, a limited number of fans will get access to the Verified Fan Onsale while others will be placed on the waitlist as described below. Access to the Verified Fan Onsale does not guarantee tickets. Tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while currently-available inventory lasts.

Registration is open from Thursday, November 2 at 8:00 a.m. PT through Saturday, November 4 at 5:00 p.m. PT .

Key Dates to Know

Thursday, November 2 – Registration opens Saturday, November 4 @ 5:00 p.m. PT – Registration closes Wednesday, November 8 – Fans will receive confirmation if they will have access to the Verified Fan Onsale or if they have been placed on the waitlist.

Thursday, November 9 – Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour Verified Fan Onsale (only fans that received an email confirming their access will be able to join the queue for this sale). All shows will be assigned specific on-sale windows, which will be communicated prior to the start of the sale.

How Will This Sale Work?

Ticketmaster is helping artists give their fans a better opportunity to purchase tickets by creating an extra line of defense against bots and professional resellers who are looking to sell tickets for profit. The process includes three steps:

Step 1: Registration

By registering for the Verified Fan Onsale, you are letting us know that you’re interested in purchasing tickets. From the registration page, you sign into or create your account, select your preferred show(s) and register your email and phone number. Once completed, you’ll automatically receive a confirmation email letting you know that we got your request. It’s quick, easy and free to sign up.

Step 2: Verification

Next, Ticketmaster vets each request by confirming it belongs to an individual — not a bot — and that it hasn’t been tied to irregular behaviors that could be a sign of a professional seller attempting to access the sale.

Step 3: Access Code or Waitlist

When demand exceeds availability, a limited number of registered Verified Fans will get access to the sale and others will be placed on a waitlist. You’ll receive an email on Wednesday, November 8 letting you know which group you’re in. If selected to get access to the sale, you’ll receive a unique access code and purchase link via text message the day prior to your Verified Fan Onsale.

While no system can guarantee that all fans will get tickets to the show(s) they’re interested in, the Verified Fan program works to significantly block bots and professional resellers from competing against fans for tickets during the sale.

Common Questions

How do i register.

  • To register, please visit: HERE
  • Sign in using your My Account or create an account if you don’t have one.
  • Tell us what show you’re interested in and submit your registration; we’ll keep you up to date with all the latest information.

We’ll send you a confirmation email to let you know your registration was successful and what you can expect next.

If I receive access to the Verified Fan sale, am I guaranteed tickets?

No. Access means you have an opportunity to join the Verified Fan sale but it is not a guarantee you’ll be able to purchase tickets. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis while currently-available inventory lasts.

If I received access to the Verified Fan sale, how do I purchase tickets?

  • At the specified time, click the link you were sent.
  • You’ll enter the Smart Queue. To keep your place in line, stay on the page and don’t refresh. Do not open more than one browser window.
  • Once it’s your turn, shop for tickets by using your unique access code. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-serve basis while currently-available inventory lasts and aren’t guaranteed. Each event has a strict four (4) ticket limit per customer.
  • Then checkout!

How many tickets can I buy with my code?

You can purchase up to 4 tickets for the one show indicated in the text you received.

When will the Waiting Room open?

The Waiting Room will open 30 minutes before the designated Verified Fan sale window begins. When the Verified Fan sale begins, fans in the Waiting Room are assigned a spot in line. Once you reach the end of the queue, you’ll have an opportunity to shop for tickets. Stay on the page and don’t refresh or you may lose your spot in line.

You must use the same Ticketmaster account that you registered with to join the Waiting Room.

How do I join the queue?

Sign in through the link that we texted to the phone number you provided during registration to access the queue.

What can I do to prepare?

If you’ve been selected to participate in the Verified Fan sale, we recommend that you prepare by signing into your Ticketmaster account before the Verified Fan sale to make sure your billing information is up to date. This will help speed up the checkout process after you’ve selected the tickets you want to buy.

My link isn’t working. What should I do?

If you registered and received access to shop for tickets through text or email from Ticketmaster, but the link’s not working, try checking these things first:

  • Make sure the event is on sale. Links are sent out before the event goes on sale but won’t work until the event is actually on sale.
  • You must be signed in with the same email address you used to register for the Verified Fan sale.

Will there be other ways to buy Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour tickets?

The only official way to get Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour tickets is through the Ticketmaster Verified Fan Onsale or through certain other limited tour-sponsored onsale opportunities for specific shows. Be on the lookout for information on these other opportunities where available.

I got an email saying I’m on the waitlist. What does that mean?

If you’re currently on the waitlist, stay tuned — you may still have an opportunity to shop for tickets.

When there are more fans than there are tickets, a limited number of fans will get access to join at the start of the Verified Fan sale and others will be placed on the waitlist.

More fans may get access to join the Verified Fan sale based on ticket availability. If you’re selected, you will receive a text with a link to join the Verified Fan sale. Please note, moving off the waitlist does not guarantee access to tickets. Tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis while currently-available inventory lasts.

Can I register more than once to increase the likelihood that I am able to purchase tickets ?

Registering more than once for a specific event does not increase the likelihood that you are able to purchase tickets . If you want to change the event date you selected after you’ve registered, you can make those edits while the registration window is still open. We only keep the last registration you submitted.

I received a confirmation email after I registered, what does that mean?

The email is simply to inform you that we have received your registration and will be working to verify your account. It doesn’t guarantee that you will be selected for the Verified Fan sale access. A second email will be sent on Wednesday, November 8 letting you know if you will get access to the sale or if you’ve been placed on the waitlist. If selected, the day prior to your Verified Fan sale you’ll receive a text message with a unique access code and link to use.

I’m a real fan of this artist, and not a bot or reseller. Why didn’t I get access?

Selection is not a measure of how big a fan anybody is. Sometimes there simply aren’t enough tickets for everyone. When demand exceeds availability, a limited number of fans get access to the Verified Fan sale, and others must be placed on the waitlist. The number of fans who receive access depends on the number of tickets currently available — this is done to help create a less crowded ticket shopping experience for fans.

How will I know if I’ve been granted access to the Verified Fan sale after I’ve been placed on the waitlist?

If selected, you will receive a text with a unique access code and link to the ticket sale. In the event of any SMS/texting delivery issues, we’ll email your unique access code and link to the email address associated with your Ticketmaster account that you used to register. Access to the Verified Fan Onsale does not guarantee tickets. Tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis while currently-available inventory lasts. If you’re sent a unique access code and link you should join the Verified Fan sale as soon as possible for your opportunity to purchase tickets.

How to buy Taylor Swift tickets: Eras Tour dates and prices compared

When you buy through our links, Business Insider may earn an affiliate commission. Learn more

Taylor Swift's reign continues as she ramps up for the next leg of The Eras Tour. The singer-songwriter will kick off the European portion of her world tour in Paris in May, which will continue throughout the summer. From there, she'll return to North America to tour Canada and a few remaining US cities in the fall. If you're hoping to attend, we've compiled all of the details of The Eras Tour, including how to get Taylor Swift tour tickets.

Swift's Eras Tour has taken the world by storm since March 2023. The three-plus-hour tour features hits from each of Swift's album eras, from "Lover" to her Grammy Award-winning "Midnights." Each show also features surprise songs and occasional guests, so fans never quite know what they're in for. Swift will release her latest album, "The Tortured Poets Department," in April, so the Swiftie hype will continue this spring.

  • See also: Adele tickets | Olivia Rodrigo tickets | Bad Bunny tickets | Bruce Springsteen tickets | Stevie Nicks tickets

Getting tickets has become its own battle and many fans have waited hours in the Ticketmaster queue to hopefully snag some seats, if they could get a presale ticket code in the first place. While Swift continues to extend the tour, including new US dates, tickets remain hard to come by.

Below, we've put together a guide on everything to know about The Eras Tour, including the tour schedule, ticket purchasing details, resale ticket prices, and the concert film streaming options . You can also peruse resale vendors like StubHub and Vivid Seats at your leisure.

Taylor Swift international tour dates

The Eras Tour international dates resumed on May 9 in Paris. The European tour will run until August 20 in London. UK prices are listed in pounds, and start times vary from city to city. Multiple shows have age restrictions for younger kids and specifics on seating and adult accompaniment. A few venues check that a ticketholder's ID matches the name on the tickets. US dates start in October and can be found under the following table.

Taylor Swift North American tour dates

The Eras tour will return to the US on October 18 in Miami. In addition to the Miami shows, Swift will perform multiple dates in New Orleans and Indianapolis. On November 14, Swift will head to Canada for several shows in Toronto and Vancouver. All North American shows start at 7 p.m. local time.

How to buy tickets for Taylor Swift's 2024 tour

Original standard tickets for Taylor Swift's 2024 sold out long ago for both international and domestic dates. All US tickets and many international tickets were sold through Ticketmaster , although select international locations used different services.

Tickets for most dates are available on resale websites like StubHub and Vivid Seats . These are generally higher-priced than the originals, which are no longer available. Keep in mind that some countries have rules regarding reselling tickets.

On StubHub, UK tour dates come with a note that ticket terms don't permit resale through unauthorized channels and might not be valid for entry. If this ends up being the case, StubHub notes that its FanProtect Guarantee will cover purchasers.

How much are Taylor Swift tickets?

Ticket prices vary by date and location. International resale tickets tend to be a bit cheaper than US resale tickets. It's worth noting that some of the cheapest tickets have restricted views.

StubHub's cheapest European tickets ranged from $190 (Madrid, Spain, on May 29) to £954 (London, England on August 19). The latter is around $1,200 in USD. The lowest prices for most shows are around $200 to $1,000. On Vivid Seats , the cheapest tickets for these dates go for $278 and $963, respectively.

When it comes to North American shows, the cheapest StubHub tickets range from $1,447 (Vancouver, Canada, on December 7) to $2,520 (Indianapolis, Indiana on November 2). Most of the cheapest tickets are priced between $1,500 and $2,250. On Vivid Seats, the cheapest Taylor Swift tickets on these dates start at $1,368 and $2,227, respectively. The two resale vendors generally have similarly priced offerings, but this varies from show to show.

Who is opening for Taylor Swift's tour?

Taylor Swift has a variety of opening acts, from up-and-coming singers to established groups. Opening acts vary by date. For the European leg of the tour, Paramore will open for Swift. In the US and Canada, Gracie Abrams will be the opening act.

Will Taylor Swift add more dates to the Eras Tour?

Taylor Swift has already added additional stops to her tour due to popular demand, including her US tour dates this fall. She also added additional dates to some of her European city stops, including bonus performances in France and the United Kingdom, among other locations. It's unknown whether Swift will end up adding even more tour dates, but by the end of the upcoming US leg she will have been touring for almost two years, so fans shouldn't be surprised if she takes a break.

Will The Tortured Poets Department be a part of the Eras Tour?

It's good news for fans of "The Tortured Poets Department," Swift's new album that dropped on April 19, 2024. Swift is incorporating several of the new tracks into the Eras Tour, as evidenced by the first shows of her European leg. "The Tortured Poets Department" songs currently featured on tour include "But Daddy I Love Him," "So High School," "Down Bad," "Fortnight," "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?," "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived," and "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart."

Since the Eras Tour is already pretty long, this means that Swift is also cutting down a few songs from past Eras that previously made the tour setlist. The songs that were removed from the setlist include "The Archer," "Long Live," "The 1," "The Last Great American Dynasty," "'Tis the Damn Season," and "Tolerate It."

Where can I stream The Eras Tour concert film?

If you'd rather watch The Eras Tour from home, you could always stream it on Disney+. Check out everything you need to know about streaming The Eras Tour concert film in our guide .

Note: Certain services and regions prohibit the resale of tickets. Business Insider does not endorse or condone the illegal reselling of tickets, and entry into an event is at the venue's discretion.

How can you get Taylor Swift tickets?

Swift is participating in Ticketmaster's Verified Fan program, which allows fans to register for a presale until 11:59 p.m. ET Nov. 9.Tickets will be priced from $49-$449, with VIP packages ranging from $199 to $899.

This will mark Swift’s first live outing since 2018’s “Reputation” stadium tour that bounced her around the U.S., the U.K., Canada, Australia and Japan.

Since that 53-date run, Swift has released three albums in addition to “Midnights”: the synth-pop heavy “Lover” as well as her duo of folk-centric releases heavy on storytelling, “Folklore” and “Evermore.”

Taylor Swift returns to pop with poetic 'Midnights,' her most deeply personal album yet

Any tour plans Swift might have pondered to support “Lover,” which bowed in August 2019, were scuttled by the pandemic, which means she has four albums that she’s never performed live.

The 13-track “Midnights” (plus seven additional songs on the “3 a.m. Edition” of the album) set numerous records for Swift its first week of release.

The album zipped to No. 1 on Billboard’s 200 album chart with the biggest sales week for any album in nearly seven years with 1.57 million equivalent album units earned in the U.S. according to Luminate, the data company that services Billboard.

Swift makes more Billboard chart history

Along with earning the distinction of top-selling album of the year , “Midnights” landed the largest sales week for an album since, well, Swift's "Reputation" in 2017.

Taylor Swift feeds fan frenzy by releasing seven additional songs from 'Midnights'

On Oct. 31, Swift scaled more chart history as she became the first artist in history to claim the top 10 slots on the Billboard Hot 100 (keeping in mind that record companies used to stagger singles releases).

The singer was gobsmacked by the accomplishment, which she expressed on social media.

“Anti-Hero,” her pop swirl of internal scrutiny, claims the No. 1 spot , with “Lavender Haze,” “Snow on the Beach” (with Lana Del Rey), “Question…?” and “Bejeweled” among the others lining the Top 10.

How much will Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour tickets be? Where to get The Eras Tour pre-sale codes? What cities will Taylor play in? Here's what we know...

Listen to this article

Taylor Swift ? Going on tour? The rumours ARE true. The Eras Tour IS happening. And we're all about to be filing for bankruptcy after fighting to get our hands on those tickets.

In case you haven't heard, Taylor confirmed that she is set to tour after the release of her tenth studio album Midnights . So far, Taylor's official channels have only confirmed that she will be touring the US and the UK, but worldwide dates will be announced soon.

Taylor's last tour was way back in 2018 when she took Reputation on the road. She was then scheduled to tour her Lover album with a series of Lover Fest shows in 2020, but had to cancel due to the pandemic.

That means she's now got a whopping FOUR new albums ( Lover , Folklore, Evermore, Midnights ) and two re-recorded albums ( Fearless TV and Red TV ) that have yet to be toured.

Fans have been desperate to see the made-up Folklovermore tour happen, but now we've got The Eras Tour to look forward to. Here's everything we know about the tour so far, including tour dates, tour stops, potential ticket prices, where to find pre-sale codes and everything in between.

The Eras Tour dates: When is Taylor Swift going on tour in 2023?

So far, Taylor has only confirmed tour dates for the US leg of The Eras Tour. She'll start her US shows in late March 2023, and play through to early August 2023.

As for the UK tour dates? We're still waiting for confirmation on those. Based on her tweet, Taylor will tour the UK and Europe after the US leg. Other international tour dates will also follow.

Back in 2019, Taylor explained to Zane Lowe why she couldn't commit to a worldwide Lover stadium tour : "I’ve got some pretty intense things happening with my family right now. I can’t go on long tours and not have the ability to go home if I need to. I have priorities that aren’t just touring now, and [the fans] have been really respectful of that in the past."

Bookmark this page – we'll update with more info as soon as it's announced.

I’m enchanted to announce my next tour: Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour, a journey through the musical eras of my career (past & present!) The first leg of the tour will be in stadiums across the US, with international dates to be announced as soon as we can! https://t.co/KFuqvrhSGo pic.twitter.com/eVyTcuW8sK — Taylor Swift (@taylorswift13) November 1, 2022

Taylor Swift The Eras Tour pre-sale codes: How to find a pre-sale code for your country

In the UK, fans were able to get a pre-sale code when they pre-ordered the Midnights album from Taylor's official UK store . The window to secure those codes has now closed, but more codes will no doubt be announced once the UK dates are confirmed.

For fans in the US, there's several ways in which you can get a pre-sale code for the tour. First, you can get a pre-sale code through the Capital One exclusive cardholder pre-sale .

  • To get into the pre-sale, you'll need to a) be a Capital One cardholder, and b) visit Taylor Swift's official events page on November 15th at 2PM (LOCAL VENUE TIME) to buy tickets with that Capital One card. (You'll need the first 6 digits of your Capital One card to gain access to the pre-sale.)
  • Fans can also gain access to the Ticketmaster Verified Fan pre-sale. You'll need to register on your Ticketmaster account BEFORE Wednesday, November 9 @ 11:59PM ET and you will then receive an email confirmation with details on what to expect next.

No other pre-sale codes have been announced yet. So if you live outside of the UK and the US, keep your eyes peeled and notifications on for Taylor and Taylor Nation's accounts.

Tickets will go on sale after Taylor has revealed the tour dates and locations. Ticket sale dates will also be announced in advance. Fans will have plenty of time to prepare and get ready to buy their tickets.

Taylor Swift 2023 tour locations: What cities will Taylor play in?

Taylor has confirmed that The Eras Tour will be an international tour, but so far, only the US leg locations have been announced.

On the US leg, Taylor will be stopping in 20 cities across the country, with 27 shows announced so far. Here's the full list so far:

  • Glendale, AZ
  • Las Vegas, NV
  • Arlington, TX
  • Houston, TX
  • Nashville, TN
  • Atlanta, GA
  • Philadelphia, PA
  • Foxborough, MA
  • East Rutherford, NJ
  • Chicago, IL
  • Detroit, MI
  • Pittsburgh, PA
  • Minneapolis, MN
  • Cincinatti, OH
  • Kansas City, MO
  • Seattle, WA
  • Santa Clara, CA
  • Los Angeles, CA

Taylor's Lover Fest tour was scheduled to have festival dates in Europe (Belgium, Germany, Norway, UK, Denmark, Poland, France, Spain and Portugal. UK's Glastonbury was also included in those dates), South America (Brazil) and North America (Atlanta, Los Angeles and Foxborough).

In contrast, Taylor's record breaking Rep tour had 53 shows, with Taylor visiting the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

Thanks to her announcement, we know for sure that Taylor will be touring in the UK. As for what cities? We'll have to wait for the announcement to know more about where Taylor will be playing outside of the US.

The Eras Tour ticket prices: How much will the tickets to Taylor Swift's tour be?

Until the tickets start to go on sale, we won't know exactly how much it'll cost for pit standing, standard standing or seated admission.

Fans have been sharing information about how much they've paid in the past for her stadium shows. Prices for her upcoming tour will probably not be the same, but could be a similar price depending on the location.

But with Ticketmaster's controversial Platinum ticket feature that saw Harry Styles fans end up paying extortionate amounts for his upcoming shows, the most in-demand tickets at Taylor's shows could end up being more expensive than ever.

That said, we'll just have to wait and see! Better start saving up now, Swifties!

Taylor Swift The Eras Tour setlist: What songs will she play?

Taylor has confirmed that The Eras Tour is a "a journey through the musical eras of my career (past & present!)" With 10 albums and hundreds of bops, bangers and ballads to choose from, the setlist for the The Eras Tour is going to be incredible.

Taylor will no doubt include a handful of songs from her latest album Midnights , as well as songs that have yet to be performed in a tour setting from Folklore, Evermore and Lover . (Fingers crossed for a live performance of 'Cruel Summer'!!!)

In terms of her re-recorded albums, tracks from Fearless (Taylor's Version) and Red (Taylor's Version) will also likely make the set list.

It's unclear when Taylor will be releasing any more re-recorded albums, and if they'll be released by the time she sets off on tour. Both 1989 (Taylor's Version) and Speak Now (Taylor's Version) have been teased through easter eggs and on Taylor's website. But it is possible that Taylor could perform several of her old songs that she has not yet officially re-released.

Just like on the Reputation tour, Taylor could also perform a surprise song at each of the dates.

Taylor Swift reveals jam-packed schedule for Midnights release

Will Taylor Swift headline Glastonbury in 2023?

Taylor was scheduled to perform at the iconic festival in 2020 alongside fellow headliners Kendrick Lamar and Paul McCartney. However, she declined to keep her headline slot when the festival was rescheduled to 2022.

Speculation that she'll finally be back on the line-up for 2023 has circulated on the internet but given that she has not yet released her own versions of her Taylor Swift, Speak Now, 1989 and Reputation albums, it's possible that she might hold off until she finally owns all of her songs and albums.

That said, the current US leg schedule does leave a cheeky gap for her to POTENTIALLY (!) perform on the Pyramid Stage on Friday 23rd June... before travelling back to the US to continue the tour in Minneapolis on the 24th.

Only time will tell if she does! If we all start manifesting now, it'll eventually come true. (And if not this year, fingers crossed for 2024!)

How to get tickets to international shows on Taylor Swift’s 'Eras Tour'

The “Shake It Off” singer’s fan base infamously crashed Ticketmaster when they overcrowded the system while trying to buy tickets when they went live on Nov. 15, 2022. Since then, the platform has employed a new ticket purchasing process that has kept crashes at bay — so far.

The new purchasing multi-step process first requires pre-registration in order to be eligible for pre-sales and regular sales. However, pre-sales and registration are closed for all current international tour dates.

Fans who are interested in attending an international show can try purchasing tickets on reseller sites such as StubHub and SeatGeek.

Taylor Swift's Tour Presale Breaks Ticketmaster (Updated)

Swift's first tour since 2018 flooded ticketmaster with intense traffic during pre-sale..

taylor swift tour pre sale

The presale for Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” has officially broken Ticketmaster. The singer’s sixth concert tour—her first since 2018—has seen increased demand coming off the record-breaking release of her album Midnights .

Related Content

Just a few weeks ago, singer-songwriter Taylor Swift officially announced her upcoming concert tour in support of her overall portfolio of music as well as her newly released album Midnights . With an anticipated high demand for tickets, savvy Swifties were able to enroll in a presale lottery prior to tickets becoming available to the general public. Lucky fans would receive a special code that would allow them to access tickets before they went on sale to the rest of the world. Presale officially began this morning at 10 a.m. ET, and just a few short moments later, Ticketmaster was down for the count.

The website DownDetector received a spike in reports prior to the 10 a.m. presale, with another spike beginning about 20 minutes after tickets became available.

“If you received a code to the TaylorSwiftTix Presale, please login and access the queue through the link you received via text rather than entering through the Ticketmaster homepage,” the company advised on Twitter prior to the sale. “This will ensure an optimal shopping experience.”

At the original time of writing this article, I am unable to access the Ticketmaster homepage, being greeted instead with a 503 error . Look what you made her do.

Swift’s last tour—2018's Reputation Stadium Tour—saw 53 sold-out shows across the world, and The Eras Tour has 52 shows scheduled in the U.S. alone. Swifties across TikTok , Twitter, and Instagram have been sharing tips and best practices on securing tickets leading up to today’s presale. If the Midnights’ release was any indication, this will likely be Swift’s biggest tour to date, which Swift described as a “journey through all of my musical eras of my career.”

Demand for tickets was so high and outages were so prevalent during the first few hours of presale that Ticketmaster has officially rescheduled Eras Tour pre-sales according to a statement posted to their Twitter that cited “historically unprecedented demand.” Any users in a queue for tickets were instructed to remain waiting until prompted to purchase tickets.

Pre-sale for West Coast stadiums in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Santa Clara, and Seattle was originally scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. PT, but has now been rescheduled to 3 p.m. PT with queues opening 30 minutes prior. Meanwhile, Capital One credit card holders that were set to receive access to pre-sale at 2 p.m. local time will now have to wait until 2 p.m. local time tomorrow for a chance to score tickets. Rest assured, Ticketmaster wants to be very clear about the fact that “hundreds of thousands of tickets” have already been sold.

Swift has a lot of ground to cover on The Eras Tour. Since her last tour, the singer has released four original studio albums— Lover , folklore , evermore , and Midnights — and two re-recorded albums— Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version) . Midnights , her most recent endeavor, has sold over 1 million copies , while ten of the album’s tracks occupied all top ten spots on the Billboard Hot 100, making Swift the first artist to do so.

From taylor swift tickets to gasoline — these days everyone feels like they’re being price-gouged. are they.

Emily Miller lucked out. Of the millions of fans — and bots — flooding Ticketmaster’s site in hopes of purchasing tickets to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, the 22-year-old managed to score $200 floor seats to see the mega pop star perform in Pittsburgh last summer.

Now, Miller dreams of seeing Swift perform again when her tour returns to the US later this year. But despite entering 10 accounts to get a code that would give her the chance to buy tickets at face value through Ticketmaster’s presale, she was unsuccessful. On the resale market, nosebleed-seat tickets behind the stage are already listed for thousands of dollars.

“People are taking advantage of fans and their vulnerability because people like me who have been fans of Taylor for so, so long would do genuinely anything just to be inside that stadium,” Miller, who is currently in an accelerated nursing degree program in Cleveland, told CNN.

The resellers are price gouging the fans, she said.

The term has been used a lot lately to describe so much more than just hiking gasoline prices during a hurricane. At the core of the increasingly common accusation of price gouging is the sense that the consumer is being exploited. But it’s not as cut and dry as you may think. In fact, economists — and even President Joe Biden — can’t agree on a definition of it.

But there’s one thing everyone agrees on: Just about everything costs more than it used to a few years ago, a consequence of inflation. Although the pace of price increases has cooled substantially, we’re still paying more .

It doesn’t help that prices can rise in seconds thanks to technology, unlike times when hikes would require, for instance, printing new menus.

Consumers are taking to social media more to draw attention to times they feel like they are being ripped off. When, in effect, they may more likely be victims of inflation — or good old supply and demand.

Price gouging is in the eye of the bidder

Gavin Roberts, chair of Weber State University’s economics department and who studies the effect of anti-price gouging laws, said the laws themselves often don’t define what price gouging is.

Biden has been quite vocal about cracking down on price gouging, which he uses interchangeably with “corporate greed,” both of which he claims are a contributing factor to inflation.

At the same time, Biden hasn’t defined what price gouging is and what it isn’t. A White House spokesperson declined to weigh in on that, and instead referred CNN to comments Biden made, including: “To any corporation that has not brought their prices back down — even as inflation has come down, even supply chains have been rebuilt — it’s time to stop the price gouging,” Biden said last year.

Corporations charging as much as they can, as painful as it may be for consumers, doesn’t mean they’re necessarily price gouging, said Roberts.

In Roberts’ view, price gouging occurs when there’s a scarcity of a good or service, lack of competition and the consumer has very little information about the price they’ll be charged or doesn’t have the ability to shop around for better prices. All that could lead them to be taken advantage of.

The best example of this, he said, would be someone going to the emergency room in dire need of care and months later receiving a bill for thousands of dollars.

It wouldn’t, in his view, be price gouging if a situation arose during which someone had the only attainable bottle of water and auctioned it off to a crowd of people for the highest possible price. That’s because people had upfront information about how the price was set, he said.

Steven Suranovic, an economics professor at George Washington University who has also published research on price gouging, sees it differently.

“I define it as the use of market power to secure a higher price than what would occur with free competition,” he said. “For example, Martin Shkreli was a price gouger when he set ridiculously high prices on some pharmaceutical drugs his company controlled.”

When Shkreli was CEO of the company formerly known as Turing Pharmaceuticals, the price of the lifesaving drug Daraprim used by AIDS patients was raised from $13.50 a pill to $750 a pill , in 2015, sparking a public outcry. CNN reached out to Shkreli, who was later convicted of securities fraud and conspiracy, over LinkedIn.

“we dont talk to snitches,” he responded in a message without further specifying to whom he was referring.

Price gouging or dynamic pricing?

Waiting to order an Uber until you make your way to the lobby of a building could cost you 20% more than the price you saw when you first opened the app.

That’s the essence of the Uber business model, a practice known as dynamic pricing where there is no fixed rate for how much your ride will cost. Rather, it is tied to the supply of drivers in a given area and the demand for rides.

Uber, like its main competitor Lyft, has come under scrutiny for allowing prices to surge at times when public transit is severely disrupted. In some instances, the companies suspended surge pricing temporarily. (Neither company responded to requests for comment.)

Surge pricing was in full effect, though, on New Year’s Eve of 2011 when Uber experienced what was then its highest demand in New York City, causing rides to spike above $100. That invited a slew of price gouging accusations .

Travis Kalanick, the CEO at the time, later penned a blog post noting, “Nobody is required to take an Uber, but having a reliable option is what we’re shooting for. It’s not about gouging.”

Suranovic said surge pricing can simply be a product of “a competitive market.” But he acknowledged that sudden price increases are more likely to lead consumers to believe they’re being price gouged and “blame business for profiteering.”

“Higher costs due to inflation is a cause of gradual price increases, but I wouldn’t consider that gouging,” he told CNN.

Consumer protections

Experts in pricing strategy warn that surprise increases can generate a backlash.

“Price gouging is a subjective emotion of a consumer feeling that they are being taken advantage of by an unfairly high price,” said Rafi Mohammed, who founded a pricing strategy consultancy firm called Culture of Profit.

“When setting a price, managers need to understand and anticipate that their prices will elicit emotional reactions ranging from ‘that’s cheap’ to ‘this is unfair.’”

To avoid that, his philosophy has been to set prices in a manner that could elicit a response from customers along the lines of “Thank you! I looked around at various offerings and determined that your product and price offered me the best value.”

That said, if you do believe you’re being price gouged, your state may be able to step in — as many did during the pandemic, even for goods like toilet paper, by capping prices. (Though Roberts’ research suggests some anti-price gouging laws are to blame if you couldn’t find toilet paper.)

Still, Teresa Murray, director of the consumer watchdog division of US PIRG, a nonprofit consumer advocacy research group, wrote in a blog post that “if you aren’t sure whether a product is priced too high, it’s better to report problematic items to the company and your attorney general.”

Perhaps state attorneys general should consider a special division dedicated to Swifties, too.

They Couldn’t Afford Taylor Swift Tickets in America. So They Flew to France

By Emily Zemler

Emily Zemler

Last summer, Wenfei Xie, a doctor from Kansas City, Missouri, went to see Taylor Swift in her hometown. She met a fellow Swiftie at the show who had reached out to Paris La Défense Arena in France to purchase tickets to Swift’s four-night stand. The fan had been shocked to learn that tickets cost significantly lower than in the U.S. Xie booked a VIP suite for herself and a few college friends, but her overseas travel plans quickly spiraled. Ultimately, Xie arranged for 12 VIP suites over three nights for a total of 291 people, many of whom are members of a Facebook group for physicians.

Xie, who began planning the trip last summer with numerous spreadsheets to keep track of all the attendees, didn’t profit off the endeavor. Each person paid €1,700 (around $1,834) face value for suite access that includes food, champagne, and private bathrooms. By comparison, suite tickets for Swift’s concerts in Miami or New Orleans are currently selling for $5,000 to $8,000 each without any food or beverage provided.

“People ask, ‘Why did you do it?’” Xie says. “But how many times in your life do you have an opportunity like this? To bring so many cool people together and see what kind of joy that it brings them has been really cool.”

Editor’s picks

Every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term, the 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history.

Many missed out on last summer’s U.S. dates or struggled to buy tickets for the upcoming North American leg, which costs thousands on StubHub. Resale laws in France have kept congruent ticket inflation at bay, encouraging fans to spend their money on airline tickets and hotels to experience the Eras Tour overseas instead. For many, the flights were less than domestic U.S. flights, and the sheer volume of hotels ensures that affordable options exist. It was an opportunity a lot of North American Swifties couldn’t resist.

In France, the law specifies that tickets for sporting and cultural events can’t be sold above face value. Ticketmaster France provides a seller-to-seller reseller platform, which is governed by these regulations. “You may not list resale tickets for a price above the face value of the primary tickets, except with the agreement of the event organizer which you will be informed of when you offer resale tickets for sale on the resale platform,” the vendor notes in its rules.

We Have Reached Peak Ryan Reynolds, Movie Star and 21st Century Celebrity

Taylor swift expands 'tortured poets department' (again) with limited edition first draft phone memos, travis kelce was 'shocked' ryan murphy gave him role in ‘grotesquerie’.

As StubHub’s chief business officer Cris Miller told Rolling Stone in 2022, “We believe artists have a right to be able to sell their tickets at whatever price they see fit. And similarly, once that ticket is rightfully purchased by a consumer, we respect that ticket holder’s right and freedom to resell their ticket, freely as a truly free market should allow.”

That free market has led to some serious FOMO for Swifties who want to see their favorite artist perform live. Parents feel an added pressure to score tickets for their kids, which becomes amplified when their friends get to go and they don’t, a result of both availability and cost. The solution? Head to Europe.

“They feel like, ‘The cool kids are going, why am I not going?’” says Washington state resident Jennifer Johnson, who brought her teenage daughter to Paris after failing to get U.S. tickets. “There’s going to be a portion of sales that are completely random, because it is just who gets chosen from the ticket lottery. But then there are the people who will dish out $10,000 for a ticket. It becomes the haves and the have-nots for the people who are willing to buy those tickets.”

Last summer, Cheri McCormick’s 13-year-old daughter, Ellie, was so desperate to see Swift perform she stood in the parking lot of Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, for four hours to “Taygate” an Eras Tour concert from outside the venue. McCormick tried to buy tickets but couldn’t get a code via Ticketmaster. At the time, resell tickets went for $2,500-3,000 for obstructed-view seats.

Ellie’s dream is coming true this week in Paris. McCormick purchased two tickets for $1,500, which she says is “easily at least half or even a quarter of the cost of lesser seats with obstructed views in much larger stadiums for the upcoming U.S. shows.” She booked flights and a hotel using points, making a vacation in Paris a “far less expensive venture” than a concert in Santa Clara.

When Swift announced the initial leg of the Eras Tour in 2022, Swiftie outrage from the tour’s infamous Ticketmaster on-sale reignited conversation around the broken ticket marketplace, both against the live music giant Live Nation Entertainment (Ticketmaster’s parent company) and the resale market. While Ticketmaster was the official selling partner for tickets, thousands of fans were out of luck before Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan presale even ended. Fans had to sign up for the presale and be “invited” for a chance to buy tickets, but few people actually got the chance to place an order.

But due to France’s stricter laws, Shelly Ferry was able to turn the Eras Tour Paris shows into a full-on family holiday. She traveled to France from Great Falls, Virginia, with her 15-year-old daughter, two of her daughter’s friends, and her three sons, ages five, seven, and 14. She initially purchased VIP tickets through the venue for night two totaling €780 (around $840), and then an additional four floor seats through the ticket lottery for night one for €300 (around $323) total.

Ferry decided to fly overseas after pricing out a similar trip to Florida. “I would have loved to see Taylor in Miami and had reached out to rent a suite, but the tickets came out to $17,712 for four people without flight, hotel, rental car, parking, etc.,” she says. “We’re going to Paris [and] seeing Taylor Swift for two nights for significantly less. At the last minute, I decided to take my three boys and even with the plane tickets, the extra hotel room, and concert tickets, we were still spending almost the same or less than Miami or L.A.”

Carolyn Emerson, who is part of Xie’s group of physician fans, brought her husband along for the show to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary. “There’s a mania around this tour that has gotten out of control, and the ticket sellers and scalpers love having a scarce product to sell,” Emerson says. “What concerns me is the process, stress, uncertainty, queueing, refreshing, and dynamic pricing that it takes to even buy tickets nowadays. There need to be laws passed prohibiting reselling above face value. You should be able to resell your ticket if you can’t go, but prevent people buying tickets just so they can make a profit on reselling them.”

Laura Lindsay, Skyscanner’s Global Travel Trends Expert, confirms that it can be better value for North American fans to seek out Eras Tour concerts in Europe. “You’re unlikely to make huge savings, but combining cheap overseas flights and accommodation with cheaper concert tickets can sometimes mean a similar overall cost,” Lindsay says. “If you’re able to travel for the concerts in Europe, your memories of seeing the tour might also include some incredible French pastries, Norwegian fashionista-spotting, or Italian pasta. Prices are driven by demand and supply, and a strong dollar means European hotels might be cheaper than their equivalent in the United States. So, for example, instead of traveling on busy domestic flights over July Fourth weekend, it might be cheaper to fly to Amsterdam for the Eras Tour dates.”

Tickets for the European dates are still available on resale websites. The European leg of the Eras Tour will run through the summer, wrapping with a five-night stand in London in August. After that, Swift will play a final round of shows in North America, with concerts scheduled in Miami, New Orleans, Indianapolis, Toronto, and Vancouver. In December, the Eras Tour became the highest-grossing concert tour of all time, according to live music trade publication Pollstar , with the tour becoming the first to gross more than $1 billion.

I’m bored of being broke – so I’ve splashed out on £700 Taylor Swift tickets

The Taylor Swift economic juggernaut shows no signs of slowing down.

After generating an estimated $4.6bn (£3.6bn) in consumer spending in her home country with her blockbuster Eras Tour, the pop star – and newly minted billionaire – is set to invigorate Blighty’s sluggish economy as she brings the three-and-a-half-hour long show to our shores.

Fans will each spend nearly £850 attending one of her 15 concerts in the UK this summer, according to research carried out by Barclays. The data suggests that this spend easily eclipses the near-£400 that people pay on average to attend a UK-based wedding and is 12 times the £67 we spend on the average night out.

But we’re hardly living in flush times. Food inflation is still high, rents and mortgages are crippling, the economy is stagnant at best and the waves of lay-offs obliterating industries just keep coming.

All we hear about is how impoverished Gen Z and Millennials are right now, so how on earth – and why – are they splashing out almost a grand on a concert?

Well, I’m one of them. Yes, I’m an impecunious millennial who will be in the crowd at the Wembley Stadium come June, after shelling out hundreds of pounds to secure a ticket. Let me explain why.

Taylor Swift and her vast back catalogue have become a cultural phenomenon comparable to the days of Beatlemania and the fan adoration of Elvis Presley.

I enjoy her music, admire her lyrical prowess and when I watched snippets of the Eras Tour on social media – Swift swaggering around in a sequined blazer, turning the stage into a catwalk she struts up and down, banging out a tune on a moss-covered piano – I thought, “I’d like to be there, part of the audience of a concert that I suspect we will be talking about in 50 years’ time.”

The thought didn’t go any further until my friend, who lives in New York, contacted me to say she was thinking of coming to London and suggested that we go to the Taylor Swift concert.

My heart leapt but quickly sunk when she said that tickets were £711 each. Before I could break it to her that I couldn’t afford that, she left me another message, offering to cover half of my ticket, ostensibly because she stays with me whenever she is in London, but really because she is a kind and generous friend.

Listen, £356 is still more than I’ve spent on any kind of ticket that wasn’t a plane ticket but after a second of hesitation, I thanked her and said, “Yes, please”. I’d somehow earn a little more that month to cover my half of the ticket or pinch it out of my savings, but come what may, I was going to that concert.

Why? Because I’m bored of being broke, bored of a cost of living crisis that simply won’t end, bored of whining about the council tax going up or the utility bill stunning me every month or the fact that there seems to be no money anywhere and every single thing – from a bottle of shampoo to flights to Mallorca – costs more than it ever has before.

I’m bored of making sacrifices and I want to make some memories instead.

Do I think that £711 for a three-hour concert is eye-watering? Yes. (These are resale tickets which is why they are so very expensive, the original presale tickets which sold out within hours were far more affordable, with £194 seats being among the most pricey.)

But after a grey slump of a winter dominated by grim economic forecasts, I’ve decided there’s only so much scrimping one can do before misery sets in.

Summer is here, I’m itching for some fun and I’m willing to splash the cash to have a fabulous night with a friend – belting out Swift’s greatest hits and swapping friendship bracelets – that I suspect I’ll remember for years to come. You may, like my father, think I’m mad to spend that much on a pop concert but I don’t think I’ll have any regrets.

And with Swifties predicted to inject almost £1bn into the UK economy going to see the singer, it looks like I’m not alone in my reasoning.
