We had an incredible trip! Adult was waiting for us and took us to our hotel, where he checked us in and exchanged Egyptian pounds. Our Egyptologists Abul II and Kareem were very knowledgeable and made our tours fun. Our 4 day Nile cruise on the Semirameses III was the highlight. Staff on board were exceptional . The ship was clean and facilities on board were very good. Overall we would highly recommend Blue Sky for any vacation in Egypt

We booked Egypt tour that was facilitated by Blue Sky. We had an amazing experience, starting at the Cairo Airport where we were expedited through all the entry and security check points. We were guided through the Cairo sites by Abul, who provided a great history lesson of the area. Afterwards, we boarded the Semirameses III for 4 night Nile cruise. Staff on board were very helpful and a lot of fun to be around. Ship had all the facilities we could ask for, very pleasant experience. Our guide for the Nile portion, Kareem, was extremely knowledgeable, provided so much information and had an amazing passion for the history here. Overall our trip was everything we could ask for and far exceeded our expectations.

This trip was such a fantastic experience! From the minute we got off the plane the blue sky team took care of everything we needed. From the drivers to the tour guide and everyone in between first class all the way. Our Egyptologist in Cairo, Tut is a great guide. Lots of fun and knows his stuff! Our host on the cruise, Ashraf was always around taking great care of the group. Always keeping us updated on what where and when on this tour. Ashraf also stayed with us on all the excursions taking care of anything we wanted. Our Egyptologist for the cruise, Karim really gave tons of amazing information about everything we saw. He is very knowledgeable and really made everyday a lot of fun, he's fantastic . The boat is well cared for and the staff is friendly and helpful. We totally had the trip of a lifetime you will see amazing things, always felt very safe and watched over when off the boat

A big thankyou to Khalid who made my arrival and departure as well as assistance seamless He was professional engaging efficient and welcoming particularly on arrival when there was a chaotic mass of passengers and he managed to find me

We had the best time in Egypt. We completed the best of Egypt tour. I would highly recommend Blue Sky. We had the best service and care while we were there. The trip was perfect. Having Hussein El Mouneir as our Egyptologist made the trip perfect. He was so knowledgeable and personable. Hussein made sure our trip to Egypt was one we will never forget. Make sure you ask for him to be your guide!

Great 12 day tour

We had a 12 day tour, 3 days in Cairo and 7 night on a Nile cruise. Our guides were Egyptologist and very knowledgeable. We had a day trip to Alexandria, but I wouldn't recommend that as I don't think the distance is worth it. Cruising the Nile was relaxing and just the right mix of free time to ruins. The boat we had wasn't the best as it needed some maintanence, the shower head needed cleaning, but all the staff were very attentive. I can recommend this group for travel in Egypt and good value for money.

We took our entire family (6 people in total) on this trip, and we will keep the memories forever sacred. Yes, Egypt is amazing and the landmarks and history are incredible, but it was the people that put this trip over the moon. Blue Sky was very reliable, and their staff was professional and friendly to say the least. We never had a moment when we didn't know what to expect or a reason to feel unsure or unsafe. Drivers and guides always had our backs and were concerned about our experience and satisfaction. We took my 78 year old mother, and someone had her hand every step of the way making sure she felt safe and comfortable. We were on the go....hot air balloons, sailboats, carriage rides, motor boats, camels and automobiles. Every time I checked on my mom, someone had a hand extended to her ensure her step while keeping us all on track. Honestly, it was the people that made our trip amazing. Sahar in Cairo and Ashraf and Milo on our cruise are all people we will never forget. Their knowledge, expertise and personable spirits will remain with us forever. I cannot look back at our trip without thinking of them and how they made a difference in our experience. DO THIS TRIP! It's safe, it's FUN and it's something you will treasure for a lifetime!!!

We took a chance and booked our Egypt tour with Brian Steele of Discount Travelers of Canada. Usually, I look for a company to travel with like Tauck or Roads Scholar but this was a good deal and we decided to go with it. We are just finishing up our week here and it’s been very good. We expected to be in a group when we arrived but my friend and I were the only two the entire time and relished the private experience. We started at the Meridian Pyramid and requested an upgrade to a pyramid view after the first night. If it had been an original option, we would have selected it beforehand. It was not offered. The second room was newly renovated and the view was perfect. This hotel had good food, very nice service and weddings in the evening that represented the local culture and allowed us to celebrate with the newly weds. (No, we weren’t wedding crashers. I was invited to join in the wedding dance.) Blue Sky has been fantastic. They have seen to our every need. Abdul met us at the airport and checked us in. He was friendly and efficient. Maged was our first guide and he was brilliant, kind and gracious. After two days, we headed to Luxor and a Nile cruise aboard the Nile Goddess. Blue Sky once again met us and took care of every detail. Hussein was our guide during the cruise. He is an Egyptologist with a mastery of Egyptian culture that took us to a whole new level of understanding about Egypt ‘s amazing history. He too was kind and gracious. The staff on the ship were outstanding. The food was excellent and we were upgraded to a suite because of a request by Asher the Blue Sky representative. The ship is in need of spiffing up but I realize that tourism is just starting to pick up again after 8 years and out of the former 200 Nile ships only 40 are now in service. Our final stop is the Ramses Hilton. It’s a very busy hotel in desperate need of refurbishing. We do however, have a view of the Nile and had a very nice check in experience with an added late checkout time and artistic “towels” by Mohammad, the room attendant. Once again, Blue Sky picked us up and confirmed our flight. Our next stop is Johannesburg.

I joined Blue Sky's group tour of the Nubian Village in Aswan, Egypt. The guides, Kareem and Kareem (coincidence to have 2 guides with same name) were professional and informative. About 15 of us went on the tour. Blue Sky reserved a motorboat to pick us up from our Nile Cruise ship and went for a pleasant ride up the Nile to the Nubian Village. We drank hibiscus tea while Kareem told us about Nubian culture and life. We had a chance to shop in the village market and a few members bought saffron and other spices. The tour lasted for a couple of hours including the boat ride there and back. I recommend it!

We took the "Best of Egypt Nile Goddess- Royal Deal" tour arranged by Travel discounters - the tour in Egypt was done by Blue Sky Travel. We just had excellent experience with them - way beyond what we expected and saw from tours in other countries. Our trip was excellent and we had a wonderful time . We were met at the hotel by an extremely nice and helpful young man Khalid Ismail. He went above and beyond to help make us comfortable. Abdullah who was our tour manager was also very nice. We were introduced to our tour guide Kareem Zohny the following day. We travel quite a bit and we truly feel that he was exceptional. His knowledge of Egypt was phenomenal. It’s not easy to hold the attention of over 20 adults for 7 days all day long; but he made his narration interesting, funny and of course full of important facts which always managed to keep us intrigued. We enjoyed the cruise, the staff there too was very helpful and efficient. We enjoyed the food on the ship immensely.

We just got back from this amazing and unforgettable trip. Without a doubt Blue Sky played a major part in making it an experience of a lifetime. Initially I considered giving them a four star rating, as there was one minor aspect of the tour we feel that need some improving (which I will address below), but decided to give a 5-star rating as all the other aspects of the tour deserved it. Highest praise go to our guide Kareem Zohny (Egyptologist) who was with us all throughout the tour. He was not only extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the subject matter but also was willing and eager to ensure that all our needs were met. Sometimes even helping to negotiate a good deal with the vendors! I will say without any hesitation that Kareem is a great ambassador for the company. The meet and greet person at the Cairo airport was quite helpful as well and he helped us clear customs and immigration in no time...that was quite a relief especially after a long flight. Depending on the package you opt for the accommodation in Cairo can vary. The hotels are about 4-star level in North American standards. We stayed at the La Meridian (with pyramid view). Paid about $30 USD per day extra for the view. You do see the pyramids during the daylight hours. Tours are pretty much packed and you only get to enjoy the view from your room for a few minutes in the morning before you leave for the day, and by the time you return to the room the sunhad set and you cannot see the pyramids in the dark. Those who stayed at the Mena House apparently had a better view during sunset, but again, you don't get to spend a lot of time in the hotel - it's your call. You are going to visit the pyramids the next day anyway... For the cruise we opted for the Nile Goddess (instead of Semiramis). According to Kareem our guide, it's one of the best on the Nile. And we totally agree. Our experience on-board was extremely good. The food was safe and quite good especially during lunch and dinner. Breakfast I must say was average, and pretty much the same menu everyday. (Suggestion to Blue Sky (Nile Goddess): Consider adding some variety to breakfast.) The lounge bar on-board was great as well and the service was fantastic. It’s worth getting the drinks package even though it only includes local spirits and wine. The spirits, beer and wine they serve are of good quality. Chardonnay served on board, can give a good run to some of Ontario VQAs and some Californians, according to my taste. I also noticed that the drinks weren’t diluted as in some resorts in Cuba and DR. Ahamed at the bar is very good and makes the best cocktails, and more importantly he will welcome you always with a smile. As a matter of fact, all serving staff on the cruise ship was great. Always trying to please you and very attentive. Room service was also great...they basically clean the cabin/bathroom and replace towels twice a day. The tours are packed. So, don't expect a lot of down time. But you do cover a lot of ground and it's fully worth it. Every place you visit is simply amazing. I wouldn't want to miss any one of them. Though if I'm to do it again I would plan for a couple of days extra to relax at the end of the tour. Strongly recommend this as most flights westward out of Cairo leaves between midnight and 3:00 am! Therefore, you don’t get any sleep on the last day before the flight. My suggestions to Blue Sky: As I mentioned earlier one of the things you can improve on is how you handle the transfers when clients arrive in Luxor from Cairo to board the cruise ship. When we (four of the group) landed in Luxor from Cairo, we were told that we just need to wait for about 20 minutes for the bus that would take us to the ship, however we ended up waiting for 2 hours - apparently, waiting for two more flights to arrive from Cairo. i.e. The rest of the group. It you want to provide 5-star service you should consider using smaller vehicles and transport small groups as they arrive - especially if the time between flights are to be two or three hours long. The same thing happened in Cairo on the last day. I did not want to give a 4-star rating merely for this unfortunate oversight, but some may consider this unacceptable. On other factors...the weather was great all the way. It was cool at night and comfortable during the day. Meaning February would be a good time to travel to Egypt...and as for clothing you should consider taking some fall attire if traveling this time of the year - the temperature can be in the low teens (Celsius) during early hours of the morning and after sunset. Actually, one morning it was around 9 degrees celsius. The vendors are persistent, I would not go as far as to say 'aggressive'. Just ignore them and they will let you be. Merely say 'no thank you' without looking at the product they offer or holding in their hand - one little glance at the product and they will follow you like hounds and pester you until even the calmest person will lose it. Do not look at the goods, but you can look directly at their eyes and firmly say "No thank you". That's the best advise I can give you on this. Also, if you look Egyptian it helps too!!! One more important point - we felt very safe there. I don't think you need to be concerned on that aspect as the people are extremely polite and respectful (street vendors are a different story, but still they are harmless). Understandably it's good practice to be careful with your wallet anywhere you travel in the world, and we did not feel that any extra vigilance was needed in Egypt. If you decide to go, you will certainly have a great trip - we surely did!!!! Our thanks to Blue Sky, and especially to our guide Kareem Zohny. I will recommend them to anyone. Cheers. Asoka (Siri)

Just returned from a tour through Egypt, Jordan, and Israel with Travel Discounters and their subcontractors Blue Sky and Bridge Travel. They are very organized, food was good to excellent, accomodations same. Great price for trip. Allow money for tipping, it is expected in these countries and it adds a significant expense to the trip. You can wear anything tasteful that you would wear anywhere in the States, you'll see all manner of dress. Good walking shoes. Sunscreen if you burn. At least a baseball cap or visor recommended. In February need a sweater and a windbraker/rain proof jacket so you can layer. Never felt unsafe. Everyone very friendly and welcoming. Can answer basic questions if anyone has any. Bev

We booked through Travel Discounters Toronto a nine day trip including two first nights in Cairo, flight to Luxor for five night cruise and one last night in Cairo. There was a lot of trepidation among our group of four, with security concerns and wondering about how smoothly things would go. We were met the moment we exited the flight and taken care of from then on. The river cruise ship was very basic, but what we expected for the price. It was clean, comfortable, and the food was good. Our guides were excellent: Sahar (in Cairo) and then Ashraf and Yasser for the duration of the cruise. We had considered adding Jordan and/or Israel to the trip, but glad we did not, as this was exhausting (in a good way). There is so much info to absorb and sights to take in. The Nile is so beautiful. I would not hesitate to visit Egypt again. We always felt safe and very welcome. Egypt was a tourist attraction before there were tourist attractions!

Our trip was actually customized for us, because we spent time in both Egypt and Jordan. Consider the second stop - because Jordan is a hidden gem (see our review for Bridge Travel). From the time we got off the plane, we knew we were in good hands and never worried about our safety/security. We were not only greeted de-planing, but our escort was kind enough to get us sorted out with money and travel cards. From there, we were taken to our hotel after a long trip from our native Canada, and rested up for our adventure. From start to finish, we were exposed to everything wonderful about Egypt. If you are making the journey this far, the Nile cruise is definitely worth it - if nothing else, to give you a much different perspective of life on the this historic waterway. Be ready for the chaos of Cairo, including air quality issues which may be more problematic during warmer months (we traveled mid-January). In addition, the Cairo museum is showing its age - but once open, the new one will definitely be worth the trip! As noted in another review, Karim's enthusiasm for all things Egyptian made the trip even more memorable. His passion was infectious, and he clearly loves what he's doing, as well as makes every guest feel special. A special thanks to Karim and Bob as well - Bob for arranging the day's events for us in Cairo when we were delayed leaving for Jordan. Definitely consider Blue Sky Travel for this trip - and don't skimp on the extra excursions, like Abu Simbel. You may never get this way again, and you'll be pressed to find many other experiences as magnificent as Egypt!

We were fortunate enough to meet the Canadian group below (last review) and made for a great time. Our sentiments, are closely aligned. Blue Sky was there at every step. They are well organized, protective, and genuinely care. Our Egyptologist, Karim was knowledgeable, personable, and well educated. His asst, also Karim (2), took good care of us. Kudo’s to “Bob” from Blue Sky who was able to track our lost luggage and arranged for us to pick it up at the airport. That’s the level of service they provide! The sights are everything you would expect and more. Each monument/temple was more jaw dropping than the next. The very reason why Egypt has been popular for centuries. You’ll be in awe trying to take it all in. Must admit the constant in-your-face-overly-aggressive-vendors was unnerving and frustrating. At every stop there was an endless “here we go again” gauntlet. Prevents souvineer shopping. This alone would keep me from returning for another visit. Bring/Get several $1 and Egyptian 5’s. Recommend keeping one in each pocket so you can have a fast draw and not flash more than one at a time. Everyone expects a tip. At every bathroom, even at the airport, there is some shifty-eyed person who takes the paper and tries to extort a tip. Same for inside each tourist stop. There is always someone hiding in the shadows waiting to show you the perfect spot for a picture. Found it easier to just give them a bit (Egyptian 5). We spent about 3/4 of our travel purse on gratuities. Thankfully we knew most of this ahead of time and prepared. Rest assured, at no time did we feel our safety was at risk. Egypt has done a great job improving tourism. In reality, we feel more threatened in our home town of Los Angeles. Blue Sky takes protective precautions and helps you feel at ease. They are highly recommended.

We booked our 15-day trip (January 14-29, 2019) to Egypt and Jordan through Travel Discounters, in Toronto, and it was a very positive experience. Although we consider ourselves to be seasoned travellers, we do not usually travel in organized tours. Everything went well from the moment we landed in Egypt, and we really felt safe and well looked after the entire time, right up until we left Jordan. The Blue Sky (Egypt) and Bridge Travel (Jordan) teams assigned to us were all very professional and whenever possible tried to enhance our adventure. We particularly enjoyed our energetic and knowledgeable Egyptologist Karim, who accompanied us on the Nile Cruise portion of the trip and to all the amazing ancient sites!! He enhanced our group’s experience by leading us to a local cafe for beverages and music, and a trip to the local market. We appreciated our Blue Sky rep Bob’s efforts to organize a last-minute Tour of Old Cairo and the Cairo Museum with a great tour guide, when our flight from Cairo to Amman was delayed by half a day. We enjoyed the company of our driver Kamel during our 6 days in Jordan. He was very reliable and accommodating to incorporate some stops to see special sites and/or experience some delicious local foods. We were also impressed with the quality of the hotels where we stayed in Giza and Cairo, as well as throughout Jordan, and generally with the food at breakfast and dinner in the hotel restaurants. The P Quattro Resort in Wadi Musa (Petra) was probably our favourite stay! During our one-night stay at the Dead Sea, we got the chance to float around in surreal surroundings in the Dead Sea and to partake in the muddying experience! We would highly recommend bringing water shoes when going into the Dead Sea, or at least sturdy water sandals, because the beach and bottom of the lake is very rough. However, in our opinion, the Semiramis II cruise ship (and food) on the Nile could have been much better. We had read reviews on this ship before our trip and were hoping that we would not end up on it. It was certainly an interesting experience, and we did address the particular issues with our Blue Sky team before leaving the ship in Aswan. Expect very early wake-up calls for early morning departures, especially during the Egypt portion of the trip. But it was all very worthwhile - especially the optional Abu Simbel tour which we had booked before our departure from home. It was another stellar highlight of our time in Egypt. Travellers should expect to be faced by some relentless vendors at every stop and turn, especially in Egypt, as well as relentless expectations for backsheesh (tipping), especially in washrooms everywhere - even at the airport! We knew beforehand that it is part of the ‘culture’ there, and we understand that people have to make a living, but it can become quite unnerving after a while. It was actually a big turn off for us and, unfortunately, we hardly did any shopping! The best advice if you don’t want to be harassed by vendors: wear dark sunglasses and although it will be difficult, don’t stop to engage anyone in your path. Travellers should also expect to have to climb uneven stairs and narrow paths (ie: when coming off the ship during the Nile Cruise, or visiting tourist sites). Travellers will also encounter uneven terrain with lots of rocky rubble when touring some sites. So make sure to bring sturdy and comfortable footwear, especially when touring The Valley of the Kings or Abu Simbel in Egypt, and the amazing Jerash and Petra sites in Jordan. We also want to mention that we were impressed by the professional service we received and the quality of the cartouches that we bought from the jewellers aboard our ship. Although reviews that we read before going on the trip recommended bringing some slightly fancier clothes for dinner aboard the Nile cruise, we found that this was not necessary. We could have saved some suitcase space to bring slightly warmer clothing for the Jordan portion of the tour, especially for the desert “glamping” experience in Wadi Rum and the Jeep 4x4 tour (not to be missed!). Visiting Egypt and Jordan had been a life-long dream for us, but which we had been hesitant to do because of (recent) security concerns. We were somewhat reassured by some of the security measures in place and also felt safe because we were always in the company of our tour reps throughout this adventure. We would highly recommend booking this high-energy trip with Travel Discounters, Blue Sky Travel and Bridge Travel. You can always catch up on your sleep when you get home.

Blue Sky Travel Group have wonderful people. Our guide, driver and full days tour was great!!!! “Tut” our guide was very kind and knowledgeable.

Located just a stone's throw from downtown Reykjavik, this geothermal spa is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after destinations for those seeking soothing, mineral-rich waters and a touch of Icelandic tradition. If you don't have time to trek to the Blue Lagoon , Sky Lagoon may be a suitable alternative. Opened in 2021, the Sky Lagoon's infinity-edge gives the illusion of swimming amongst the sea and sky. It's an indulgent, modern twist on the traditional Icelandic thermal bath experience.

The Sky Ritual, an exclusive, seven-step experience, takes you on a journey of relaxation and rejuvenation, combining the warmth of the lagoon with cold plunges, sauna sessions and more. Each step is designed to stimulate your senses, promote circulation and enhance your spa experience.

Recent reviews

The Sky Lagoon is often described as "breathtaking" and "luxurious" by travelers, who offer high praise for its dramatic ocean views, sophisticated, modern design and friendly staff. A few reviewers even opted to visit twice during their time in Reykjavik. Others were impressed with the on-site dining and bar options and recommend taking your time here to truly relax.

The lagoon's hours vary seasonally. From June to August, it's open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.; from September to October, it's open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.; from November to mid-March, it welcomes visitors from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and from mid-March to May it's open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

How to get to Sky Lagoon

Sky Lagoon is located about a 15-minute drive south of the Reykjavík city center at the far end of Kársnes in the town of Kópavogur. You can take two public buses to reach the lagoon, but it's most easily reached by car. If you don't have your own set of wheels, you can add in a round-trip shuttle to your booking for an additional fee.

Ticket package prices vary based on which facilities you'd like access to. If you'd like access to every element of the Sky Lagoon experience, opt for the "Pure Pass," which includes the lagoon, the cold plunge and the turf house, which houses the sauna, the cold mist, the steam and showers. The "Pure Lite Pass" only grants you access to the lagoon; prices start a 6,790 Icelandic króna (around $49) for the Pure Lite Pass. Note that kids 12 and younger are not permitted at the lagoon for safety reasons.

#1 Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights)

The aurora borealis (or northern lights ) can be an almost eerie sight: Picture emerald green swirls coloring the otherwise darkened sky. But scientists have a boring explanation for this phenomenal natural light show – "collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the Earth's atmosphere," according to the Northern Lights Center. Still, it's a pretty breathtaking sight, and if you're visiting Reykjavik in winter, you might want to carve out some time for northern lights gazing.

Although you can see the lights from Reykjavik, you'll increase your chances of viewing them outside of the city away from the "light pollution" from exterior and interior lighting (such as streetlamps). To help you find the best areas for spotting the northern lights (and take advantage of round-trip transportation from your accommodations), previous travelers recommend taking a tour with local companies like BusTravel Iceland or Reykjavik Excursions – some of which are the best Iceland tours . In addition to finding the northern lights, tour guides may also help you take better pictures. But keep in mind that the aurora borealis requires a perfect cocktail of climate conditions in order to show – so you're not guaranteed to see the elusive display of lights even if you book an organized tour.

That's all for this evening, but if you're just catching up, here is a recap of the key developments.

  • An Israeli fighter jet struck a refugee camp in the West Bank, killing at least one person and injuring eight;
  • The bodies of three Israeli hostages were recovered from Gaza;
  • An investigation was launched after a 450kg bomb fell from an Israeli fighter jet into an Israeli town;
  • Spain banned ships carrying weapons for Israel from docking at its ports;
  • Dozens of Israeli protesters in the West Bank attacked a truck in an apparent attempt to prevent aid from reaching Gaza, beating its driver and setting it on fire.

A group of US medical workers trapped at a hospital in Gaza have now left the territory, the White House says.

American doctors providing care in Gaza were unable to leave after Israel closed the Rafah border crossing.

Among them were 10 from the US-based Palestinian American Medical Association, who had intended to leave after a two-week mission at the European Hospital in Khan Younis.

Today, 17 American doctors and healthcare workers, out of a total of 20, left Gaza, White House national security spokesperson John Kirby said.

"I can assure you that any of them that wanted to leave are out," Mr Kirby said.

Three of the doctors chose not to depart Gaza, a source familiar with the situation said.

The Palestinian American Medical Association reported on Wednesday that its team of 19 healthcare professionals, including 10 Americans, had been denied exit from Gaza

Israel seized and closed the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt on 7 May.

The number of people injured by an Israeli airstrike in the West Bank has risen to eight, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

They are in a stable condition and receiving treatment at hospitals, it said.

As we reported in our last post, at least one person has been killed by the attack on Jenin refugee camp.

Residents of the camp said a house was targeted.

Unlike Gaza, such a strike is a rarity in the West Bank, which is run by the Palestinian Authority, not Hamas.

The Israeli military says a fighter jet has carried out a strike in Jenin in the West Bank.

One person was killed and two injured, the Palestinian health ministry said.

While Palestinians live in both Gaza and the West Bank, the territories are controlled by distinct groups.

Hamas has ruled over Gaza since seizing control in 2007 following a brief civil war with the Palestinian Authority.

The West Bank, meanwhile, is still run by the Palestinian Authority, headed by president Mahmoud Abbas.

A three-year-old Palestinian girl with an ultra-rare genetic condition has been forced backwards in her quest to leave Gaza for life-saving treatment.

Julia Abu Zeiter, whose story is being followed by Sky News, was moved with her family from a tent in the southern city of Rafah and relocated to a supposedly safer zone to the north and further away from the border they had hoped to cross.

Speaking to Sky News, her mother Maha said: "We were going through the travel procedures to leave Gaza. When the time for us to travel through Rafah crossing got close, the Israelis occupied the crossing, and they told us they want to invade Rafah."

She added: "I was between two fires, not knowing where to go. Do I go try to travel to treat my daughter or do I flee to another place?"

Israel has assured the US they are willing to continue discussions before making any major decisions on plans to assault Rafah, a US official has said.

White House national security spokesperson John Kirby said national security adviser Jake Sullivan will raise the issue on a visit to Israel to meet Benjamin Netanyahu.

Mr Sullivan will stress the need to go after Hamas in a targeted way, not with a full-scale assault on the southern city, Mr Kirby said.

He said it was important that the Rafah crossing was opened immediately.

The Israeli military seized control of the crossing between  Gaza and Egypt earlier this month.

Hamas says the US-built aid pier off Gaza's coast is no alternative to opening all land crossings under Palestinian supervision.

It added that they reject any military presence on Palestinian land.

Trucks carrying aid rolled across the pier today for the first time in an operation the US says will scale up to 150 truckloads a day.

But Gaza is already on the brink of famine, according to international aid organisations.

Aid groups also say land crossings are much more effective, and at least 500 trucks a day are required to meet the basic needs of the population.

Israeli restrictions on border crossings and heavy fighting have hindered the delivery of food and other supplies.

An investigation has been launched after a 450kg bomb fell from an Israeli fighter jet into an Israeli town this morning, according to reports.

Images showed the munition landed close to homes in Yated.

The Israeli military said it was intended for Rafah and described the incident as "unusual", reported the Times of Israel.

"Air Force technical teams arrived at the scene and began an in-depth investigation of the incident."

The Rafah strike was carried out moments later, the military said.

Israeli strikes on Lebanon have killed at least five people including Lebanese militants, Hamas fighters and Syrian civilians, security sources told Reuters.

A series of strikes on a coastal town further north than the usual conflict area killed a Hezbollah member as well as two Syrian civilians, the security sources said.

They said a separate Israeli strike on Majdal Anjar, on Lebanon's eastern border with Syria, killed two Hamas fighters.

Israel and Hezbollah have been exchanging fire across Lebanon's southern border for seven months in parallel with the Gaza war, but it has ramped up in recent days.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military.

The recovery of the bodies of three hostages from Gaza is a "painful reminder" of those who are still in captivity, says a member of the Hostages and Missing Families Forum.

Professor Hagai Levine said over the last day, rumours circulating about which bodies had been returned to Israel were "very painful for the families" of all the captives.

It was important to bring home the bodies of hostages to give their families closure, he said.

"We do not lose hope. We are preparing for the return of the hostages that are alive," he said.

"As long as we promote a solution to release the hostages, it will also help to prevent further bloodshed in Gaza."

Turning to the approach the Israeli government has taken, Mr Levine said the government "is not representing well the desires of the public".

"There is a majority in Israel that believe that we should now promote regional agreements and together with the moderate countries, not the extremists, we should kick out Hamas... and replace them with another kind of government.

"This could really bring peace and prosperity to the Palestinians and to Israelis and to the entire region and we feel that the government is not doing enough."
