No instrument is more deeply moving on a personal level than the human voice. There’s something about it which can tug at the heartstrings and triggers emotions which we didn’t know we were capable of feeling off of music. The Gaither Vocal band has harnessed the power of the human voice to its full potential and uses it to deliver stunning renditions of contemporary Christian and Southern Gospel tunes which are always guaranteed to move an audience.

Named after founder and leader Bill Gaither, the group has had a number of members over the years but whatever form the group takes they always impress with the same skillset. There are lush harmonies and acrobatic vocal interplay on display every night as the group soar through a number of hymns and songs of praise. There’s a palpable chemistry between the members who are clearly enjoying themselves as they work their way through these powerful pieces of music. The human voice is a powerful tool which this group have harnessed to deliver messages of praise and worship, much to enjoyment of the massive crowds that are there every time they play.

We had an INCREDIBLE time!!! By FAR the best concert I've EVER been to!!!! It was well worth every cent we spent for the tickets and travel expenses!!!!

The concert lasted 4 hours, but I would've stayed longer if they'd have kept singing!!!! We sang, laughed, cried and worshipped! What an amazing evening!

If you love gospel music, this is the concert to spend your hard earned money on!

This band is so blessed with incredible talent and uses it to worship our Lord and spread the good news about Jesus. It was an awesome worship experience. You could feel God’s presence in the sanctuary. I would highly recommend going to hear them. They also add humor to the performance that was very enjoyable.

Things to do in the Chattanooga area this week include Lego expo, Dolly Day, Gaither Vocal Band

May 4, 2024 at 12:00 p.m.

by Lisa Denton

Staff file photo by Olivia Ross / The Dolly Parton mural in Ringgold, Ga., will again be central to festivities for Dolly Day. The third annual event honoring the music icon is scheduled May 11.

Here's what's happening this week in the Chattanooga area.

Lights out for birds

The spring migration of birds peaks this week in Southeast Tennessee and extreme northern portions of Georgia and Alabama, according to allaboutbirds.org (areas farther south peaked last week). Peak periods of spring bird migration are defined as when the nightly average of birds in the night sky was highest, as measured by 143 radar systems from coast to coast from readings taken every 10 minutes from 2013 to 2022. To assist the birds' migration, scientists recommend turning out all nonessential lights or drawing curtains from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. as birds can become disoriented by lights and collide with windows. The Chattanooga Audubon Society says thrushes, vireos, warblers, tanagers and flycatchers are among the migrating species that nest here each spring.
