Drar in 1,5 miljarder kronor – nu ansöker Big Travel om rekonstruktion

Många aktörer inom reseindustrin har fått se sina omsättningar krascha totalt i samband med coronakrisen – och nu slår ytterligare en luttrad resejätte larm. 

Det är bolaget Big Travel Sweden AB, som ingår i resekoncernen Big Travel, som ansöker om rekonstruktion. 

Bolaget grundades redan 1983 och beskriver sig själva som en av Sveriges största resebyråkedjor. Big Travel Sweden omsatte 1,5 miljarder kronor med en vinst på 1,8 miljoner kronor i det brutna räkenskapsåret som avslutades i april förra året.

Bakom bolaget står Big Travel Scandinavia som i sin tur ägs till fullo av investeringsbolaget Taptum AB sedan fem år tillbaka. 

Satsar på företagsresor och offentlig sektor

Big Travel Sweden har traditionellt erbjudit resor mot såväl privatkunder som företag och har 15 lokala resebyråer runt om i landet. Under förra året svängde de dock om affärsmodellen och började att fasa ut försäljningen mot privatpersoner. Tanken är att den ska upphöra helt mot hösten.

Big Travel fokuserar istället på tunga kunder från offentlig sektor, som staten samt kommuner och landsting. Utöver det har bolaget även kunder bland små och medelstora företag.

Nu konstaterar ledningen att satsningarna och omställningen kostat, men att lönsamheten varit god, fram tills i vår. När Corona kom upphörde resandet tvärt. 

”Under mars månad 2020 rasade bolagets intäkter dramatiskt och uteblev nästan helt. Reseindustrin som bransch drabbas synnerligen hårt. Detta både extrema och helt oförutsägbara intäktsbortfall har på mycket kort tid medfört en akut likviditetskris för bolaget”, skriver företrädare.

Närmare 60 har sagts upp

Det arbetar närmare 160 personer inom Big Travel Sweden. Av dem hade 56 stycken meddelats om uppsägning vid tidpunkten för ansökan, som inkom till tingsrätten under torsdagen förra veckan.

Bolagets skulder uppgår till runt 100 miljoner kronor, varav 41 miljoner kronor banklån och krediter.

Big Travel skriver att bankkrediter och regeringens stödåtgärder underlättat, men att det inte löser de finansiella problemen. De kommer inte att kunna betala sina skulder förrän intäkterna kommer tillbaka, något de ”försiktigt bedömer” komma kunna ske först i mitten av augusti. En rekonstruktion bedöms vara den enda vägen framåt.

Pierre Pettersson är rekonstruktör i ärendet. Han säger till Breakit att det rör sig om, så vitt han kan se, ett välmående bolag med en fungerande verksamhet som drabbats av en extremt situation. Det vill säga att resandet gått från fullt till nära noll på väldigt kort tid.

”Jag bedömer att förutsättningarna är goda för en rekonstruktion av bolaget”, säger Pierre Pettersson.

Big Travel har 15 lokala resebyråer i Sverige som främst hanterar privatkunderna. Bland varumärkena finns traditionella spelare som Reseshoppen och Resebyrån. Byråerna kommer att påverkas i samband med att fokuset mot affärsresande ökar. 

”Som ett led i detta kommer man tyvärr att behöva se över och lägga ned lokalkontor. Hur många och vilka är dock ännu för tidigt att säga”, säger Pierre Pettersson. 

Kan bli aktuellt med ägartillskott 

Det kommer att krävas en ackordsuppgörelse med borgenärerna för att lyckas genomföra rekonstruktionen.

”Man behöver en skuldnedskrivning som en del av rekonstruktionen, sedan exakt på vilken nivå och på vilka villkor får man återkomma till”, säger Pierre Pettersson.

Kan det bli aktuellt för moderbolaget Taptum att tillföra pengar? 

”Det är ett av alternativen som vi tittar på. De är fordringsägare också. Det finns olika sätt för ägare och fordringsägare att bidra till rekonstruktionen”, säger Pierre Pettersson.

Ägaren Taptum köpte upp Big Travel Scandinavia, med dotterbolag, under 2015. De beskriver Big Travel-koncernen som en av Sveriges och Nordens största resebyråkedjor med 18 butiker och 12 affärsresecenter i Sverige. I gruppen ingår bland annat Reseshoppen och Resevaruhuset. Big Travel Sweden har systerbolag i Danmark, Norge och Finland och den årliga omsättningen uppges landa på 200 miljoner euro, över 2 miljarder kronor.

Konkursat Resevaruhus tas över av BIG Travel

Det är nu klart att BIG Travel tar över verksamheten i Resevaruhuset som nyligen gick i konkurs . BIG Travel har kommit överens med Resevaruhusets konkursförvaltare att ta över tillgångar som kundregister, varumärken, domäner med mera. Flera av Resevaruhusets medarbetare kommer också att erbjudas tjänster inom BIG Travel.

Resevaruhuset som grundades redan 1966 hade kontor i Stockholm, Göteborg och Uppsala. Den personal som kommer att övertas kommer att arbeta i BIG Travels lokaler. Resevaruhusets nuvarande kontor kommer därmed att stängas.

– Vi ser fram emot att få utvidga vår verksamhet med både kunder och medarbetare från Resevaruhuset. Detta innebär också att vi ytterligare stärker vår position på resebyråmarknaden i Sverige, kommenterar BIG Travel Scandinavias vd Jan-Anders Holmqvist.

BIG Travel Scandinavia AB är moderbolag för Taptumkoncernens resebyråverksamhet. Bolaget med dotterbolag i hela Norden omsätter för verksamhetsåret 2017/18 cirka 1,3 miljarder kr och har närmare 200 medarbetare. Resevaruhusetgruppen omsatte år 2016 ca 260 mkr och hade ett trettiotal anställda.

Big Travels butik i Uppsala ska inte påverkas.

Resejätten Big Travel omorganiserar och lägger ned flera av sina butiker. Bland annat tvingas butikerna i Borlänge, Östersund och Hudiksvall att stänga.

Men i Uppsala blir butiken kvar – ännu så länge.

Hela resebranschen befinner sig i någon form av fritt fall med anledning av coronapandemin och de stängda nationsgränserna. Nyligen kom rapporter att resandet från Arlanda har minskat med hela 98 procent.

Ett av företagen som har det svårt just nu är resejätten Big Travel som nyligen meddelade att företaget stänger flera av sina butiker. Däribland butikerna i Borlänge, Växjö, Östersund, Kristianstad och Hudiskvall.

Butiken i Uppsala påverkas inte

Men enligt Fredrik Skarke, Vd för Big Travel, kommer inte butiken i Uppsala att påverkas av omorganisationen.

– Den påverkas inte, personalen där kommer snarare att få mer att göra nu när vi minskar antalet butiker, säger Fredrik Skarke, som berättar att omorganisationen påbörjades redan innan krisen.

– Vi såg redan under sista kvartalet förra året att resandet inom framförallt den offentliga verksamheten minskade kraftigt. Så redan i december förra året började vi se över verksamheten.

Finns det någon risk för konkurs om inte resandet kommer igång snart? – Inte som det ser ut just nu i alla fall. Vi har en plan som visar att vi ska ta oss igenom det här om inrikesresorna är igång till september. Vi har långa avtal med flera stora offentliga verksamheter, så när resandet väl kommer igång så tror jag att vi kommer vara igång ganska snabbt.

Corporate Travel Comeback: Airlines Say They’re Seeing Gains

Once at a standstill as a result of the pandemic, road warriors are returning to business travel as corporations implement more return-to-office policies and in-person client meetings.

Since the pandemic, airlines have reported record results quarter after quarter. International and premium travel have been the main drivers. But in the most recent quarter, airlines got a big boost from a segment many thought was long gone: business travel. 

For Delta, corporate bookings were up 14%, with the financial services, technology and customer service industries leading the increase. 

Glen Hauenstein, Delta’s president, said that 90% of the companies it surveyed on corporate travel said they plan to increase travel in the second quarter. That could set Delta to deliver record corporate revenues during the latter half of the year. 

Returning to Pre-Pandemic Norms

Pre-pandemic, corporate travel was a trillion-dollar business . But it’s been slow to return. As people returned to offices, businesses cut back on travel budgets — meetings with clients were instead conducted over video conferencing platforms like Zoom. 

Jonathan Kletzel, PwC’s U.S. airline and travel practice leader, said business travel is not quite completely at pre-pandemic levels, but higher airfares have led to revenue gains for airlines.  

“We’re at a point now where enough of the volume has come back at a higher price that people are saying, ‘OK corporate travel is back,’” he said.

Kletzel said mostly bigger corporations with bigger travel budgets and return-to-office policies have driven the uptick in corporate travel. 

“You are seeing a lot of companies go back to work and because those companies are going back to work, now they want to see their suppliers there as well,” Kletzel said. “So there’s an opportunity to go visit clients.” 

Corporate Bookings Fuel Q1 Revenues

United Airlines also saw corporate bookings increase 14% in the first quarter. “The strength of the business traffic rebound is a nice development for an airline like United,” said Andrew Nocella, United’s chief commercial officer, during a call with analysts. 

And West Coast-based Alaska Airlines said it is seeing a surge in business travel as the tech industry rebounds from the pandemic. Corporate bookings for Alaska were up 22% in the first quarter, and business travel for the carrier has now recovered to 2019 levels. 

American is seeing slightly similar results as its competitors but hasn’t seen the same significant increases in bookings among larger corporations that have contracts with booking platforms for business travel. 

American chief commercial officer Vasu Raja said the carrier has seen more bookings from smaller- and medium-sized businesses. 

“It’s really being driven by unmanaged corporations that continue to come back to American Airlines,” he said in a call with analysts. “Managed corporates, contracts and corporations are growing a little bit less than that, but still high — in the mid- to high single digits.”

It’s not just airlines. Earlier this month, Hyatt said it was seeing strength in business travel as well. Revenue from hotel stays by transient business travelers rose 6% in its most recent quarter, and forward bookings were showing substantial gains.

The promo and eGC entitlement is based on a customer level. Multiple Metrobank credit cards under the same customer number will be considered as one unique cardholder. Principal and registered cardholders are entitled to maximum of one (1) eGC per customer number for the duration of the promo period. Supplementary cardholder transaction/s will be included in the computation of the one (1) eGC.

Principal cardholder who reached the minimum accumulated spend will receive a confirmation SMS from Metrobank with instructions to redeem the eGC. The eGC for this promo is applicable at select Giftaway merchants assigned by Metrobank (such as but not limited to The SM Store, Robinsons, Puregold, Shopee, Grab, Lazada, and more).

Applicable delivery and other processing fees where from the stores the eGC/s will be used are not included in the eGC and should be shouldered by the cardholder. A PHP 15 transfer fee for e-wallet redemption shall apply on a per redemption basis. Transfer fees will be shouldered and charged to the recipient’s e-wallet account. The Giftaway Universal eGC is transferrable to cardholders’ nominated recipient. The terms and conditions relating to the use of the Giftaway Universal eGC indicated in the Giftaway platform shall apply. The Giftaway Universal eGC is transferrable to cardholders’ nominated recipient. By clicking the “Share this Button”, cardholder acknowledges that he or she consents to the sharing of the incentive to his or her nominated recipient. Validity of the original token code shall apply. Once the redemption or transfer has been made, Metrobank and Giftaway will not be liable for the incorrect entry of mobile number where the incentive was shared. It is the customer’s sole responsibility to double-check the entry upon redemption of the incentive.

Qualified and registered cardholders will receive the incentive in the denomination below:

The redemption period is from March 1 to June 14, 2024 or within sixty (60) calendar days after the receipt of the SMS, whichever is earlier. All redemption requests made after the redemption period or after sixty (60) calendar days will not be accommodated. Metrobank will not accommodate cardholders’ requests of extending the redemption and validity period of the eGCs. All unredeemed eGCs will be forfeited after the end of the redemption period.

Metrobank will not accommodate request of cardholders to cancel, reverse or applied to other incentive or reward once a valid redemption is made. All redemption will be considered final. It’s the cardholder obligation to make sure that his or her preferred incentive is correct.

“Qualified Transactions” includes all local and international travel-related transactions under Airlines, Air Carriers, Lodging Hotels, Motels Resorts, Airports, Travel Agencies, and Cruise Lines with the merchant category codes stated below and card present & ecommerce transactions made overseas or international.

“Non-Qualified Transactions” includes all local retail purchases at groceries, department stores, gasoline stations, restaurants, Internet, and Mail Order/Telephone Order, foreign currency transactions, merchant installment such as 0% installment, Shop Now, Pay Later, reduced rates, regular rates, Bills2Pay, PayBills, PayNow Balance Transfer, Balance Conversion, Cash2Go, Cash Advance, mobile payment / mobile wallet transactions, online payment system and transactions with merchant category code of 6540 (such as but not limited to Lazada Top Up, PayMaya Add Money, Shopee Pay, GrabPay) found in Metrobank’s database are excluded from this promotion.

All terms and conditions relating to the use of Universal Giftaway eGCs redemption indicated in the Giftaway redemption portal shall apply. Any dispute related to the use of the Universal Giftaway eGCs shall be coursed through the chosen merchant.

The incentive cost equivalent is VALID in conjunction with any ongoing promos.

All questions and issues will only be accepted within sixty (60) calendar days after the end of the promo or redemption period or not later than June 14, 2024, after which, Metrobank will no longer entertain disputes and / or requests.

A cardholder and transaction/s will be disqualified from the promo if his or her Metrobank credit card becomes past due, delinquent, suspended, cancelled or terminated before the release of the eGCs. If the cardholder does not pay for his or her balances because of his or her concern/s Metrobank will not be liable on the accrued charges to his or her account.

Metrobank reserves the right to disqualify a previously approved transaction that was cancelled or charged back within the promo period. Should the cardholder receive the incentive but was later on deemed unqualified for not meeting the requirements of the promo due to disputes arising from erroneous, invalid, fraudulent or unauthorized transactions, the cost of the eGCs shall be charged by Metrobank to the cardholder’s credit card account.

All questions regarding the cardholder’s eligibility to this promo shall be resolved by Metrobank, with the concurrence of DTI.

The use of Metrobank credit card in connection with this promo is subject to the Terms and Conditions governing the issuance and use of Metrobank credit cards.

By joining or availing of this promo, the cardholder confirms that he/she has read, understood and agreed to the promo mechanics and its terms and conditions.

Big Travel övertar Resevaruhusets verksamhet

Big Travel har kommit överens med Resevaruhusets konkursförvaltare om att förvärva verksamheten i Resevaruhuset.

Big Travel AB övertar verksamheten i Resevaruhuset efter konkursen tidigare i somras. I överlåtelsen ingår tillgångar som kundregister, varumärken, domäner etc. Flera av Resevaruhusets medarbetare kommer att erbjudas tjänster inom Big Travel. Det framgår av ett pressmeddelande.

Resevaruhuset som grundades redan 1966 hade kontor i Stockholm, Göteborg och Uppsala. Den personal som kommer att övertas kommer att arbeta i BIG Travels lokaler. Resevaruhusets nuvarande kontor kommer därmed att stängas.

– Vi såg stora fördelar med ett förvärv. Resevaruhuset har i likhet med Big Travel och Resecity tre verksamhetsgrenar; privatresor, affärsresor samt grupp- & konferensresor. Företagen arbetar vidare i samma systemlösningar och har liknande företagskultur, säger Stig Sjöblom, nyutnämnd koncernchef och vd i Taptum AB, moderbolag till Big Travel och Resecity.

Big Travels vd Jan-Anders Holmqvist: – Vi ser fram emot att få utvidga vår verksamhet med både kunder och medarbetare från Resevaruhuset. Detta innebär också att vi ytterligare stärker vår position på resebyråmarknaden i Sverige, säger han.
