Best travel sites - my picks, best local deals, other great sites, 2024 11 may toronto to lisbon, faro, porto, madeira, or azores, portugal (and places in france) - $568 cad roundtrip | business class for $1999.

Lisbon, Portugal

TAP Portugal has dropped the price of their Fall and Winter 2024-2025 flights from Toronto to Lisbon, Faro, and Porto, Portugal down to $568 CAD roundtrip including taxes.

Flights from Toronto to Madeira or The Azores are also available for a similar price.

You can also find flights from Toronto to various places in France (Paris, Lyon, Nice, Toulouse, or Marseille) and the United Kingdom (London, Manchester) for $579-$607 roundtrip.

And flights from Toronto to Marrakesh, Morocco are available for $791 roundtrip.

Like everything in our lives, these have crept up in price over the last few years. Taking a look back at TAP's deal history on these nonstop flights to Lisbon shows...

November 2022 - $394 to $442 roundtrip

January 2023 - $399 to $426 roundtrip

April 2023 - $504 roundtrip

January 2024 - $465 roundtrip

It does seem possible that we might still see these offered in the $400s roundtrip at some point.

Although for the last 60 days they've been firmly planted in the $700s.

You can also find Business Class flights from Toronto to these same destinations in Portugal for $1999 CAD roundtrip. These have also been cheaper in the recent past, sometimes offered for around $1700 roundtrip when TAP has a large price drop.

But they are still around 45% cheaper than TAP's usual business class prices, and 55% cheaper than Air Canada's prices on the same YYZ-LIS route.

A tip from a YYZ Deals follower regarding the new Canadian passports and Lisbon

"FYI just flew into Lisbon airport this week. The customs lane for Canadian passport does not work for the new Canadian passports. Go to the lane for all passports. Do not waste your time in the Canadian passport line cause you’ll just get sent to the back of the all passports line to wait again."

Other people have mentioned that the lane for electronic passports has worked for them in the past, but it seems to vary....

"Worked for us last Feb but in October it was not operational"

"My wife and I were in Lisbon in April. I have a new passport and it wouldn’t scan when we landed so I had to join the other general line and it took 2.5 hrs to get through. When we were flying out I tried the Canadian line again and that time it scanned no problem. Seems like it’s hit or miss."

Top 5 airlines serving from Toronto to Anywhere

I was pleasantly surprised. I booked the "club class" which was basically like Domestic First Class. The service was superior. Food was pretty good. Seats and cabin were comfortable. For the price I paid, I was very pleased.

Super unproffesional flight . Flight attendants were unproffesional. I could hear them gossiping about theor boyfriends the whole trip

The connecting flight lay over was 4.00 hours, the gate agent booked me on the next flight which was about to depart at no extra cost.

The ticket price was reasonable, food was okay, not the best. I would use the service again.

Actually the flight was on time. New plane, food was okay but not great.

Old plane, hard seats, 1.30 hours delay, while seating on the plane waiting for departure.

Great boarding. Everything was on time. Plane was a bit old and the crew could have provided better drink service.

Boarding was a little chaotic but it was a very large flight. It just wasn’t fast. And there was no noticeable difference between zones boarding.

Crew was pleasant. Aircraft was very dated and uncomfortable for our nearly 4 hour flight. We were in row 17 and they ran out of purchasable food by the time they got to us.

We were lucky enough to arrive at the right time. The staff at YYZ did our complete check in and luggage tags for us. Even made sure we knew where we were to head next and how to get there. It truly was one of the best and easiest check inside. Thanks team.

Nice smooth flight with pleasant stewards. Slept most of the flight, they could have slowly turned on the lights to make it more pleasant. Otherwise a good trip.

Great! No food was available during the flight due to the catering service strike but snacks were given throughout the flight which was nice.

I wish that seats closer to the front of the plan were available, but when I booked the flight the seats were VERY expensive so I did not book seats at that time. The day before flying only seats at the back of the plane were available. It takes so long to board the plane and empty the plane on arrival due to SO many roller bags.

Crew was rude.didn’t even say hi or welcome to board

Nothing special. Unacceptable wait for baggage on arriving in Calgary

Departure delay on a late night flight. Made us even later. Tired but got home.

Westjet forced me to put my carry-on baggage in check-in probably because I was assigned seat 23A (the last row seat), which had no cabin space, which is unfair. I wanted to carry on my luggage so that I don't have to wait at the airport for my luggage. Also, because there was no cabin space, I was forced to keep my laptop bag under the seat, which I didn't want to as I was carrying 2 laptops and charger. The airline should basically tell people that if you are assigned a last row seat, then you are not allowed a cabin baggage or a personal item.

Easy processing, flight time was quick and staff was professional and kind.

It was delayed by two ours very full no room to move

They seem to have squeezed out a little more legroom in these planes! It was very nice to not have to fold in half to fit in the seats!

First time with Porter and I can say this is best airline company in Canada. Great service, free WiFi, free snack and drinks (including beer and wine). Seats were super comfy on the Embraer jet and I appreciated the folding try table too. Staff were excellent both legs of the trip.

Tight transfer in Montreal. (15 min) However, we made it, as did my luggage.

Check in was slow because of passenger ahead in Reserve line. Seats were somewhat uncomfortable.

First time with Porter. Amazing experience overall, will be my airline of choice in North America whenever possible. Liked the quality of food and how it was served but one suggestion- a hot meal on the longer flights, perhaps?

Delayed by 2.5 hours. This happened previously on my flight from YOW to YVR on Dec. 26.2023. This is a terrible airline. The reason was there was lack of ground crew. This is a known event. AVOID PORTER AIRLINES IF YOU CAN. There is a reason half the plane was empty.

The airline arrival at the downtown airport is a big plus.. Food and beverage was excellent. Their non weather related cancellation is horrible. Overall I gave the airline 7 over 10 Tips for people flying porter from Boston. The airline doesn’t have inflight entertainment No TV No WIFI. Bring your entertainment with you.

The airline arrival at the downtown airport is a big plus.. Food and beverage was excellent. Their non weather related cancellation is horrible. Overall I gave the airline 7 over 10

Wasn’t on the flight- again. Bad weather in Halifax and I was in an accident. What a poor experience to have to pay for all this flight and not be on it

I didn’t make my flight due to poor weather and I had an accident driving there. I tried to get my money back or even credit and nothing. I have an entire flight both to Florida and back that I paid for and no one will give me any money back. I know this isn’t just Porter and it’s 3rd party- however airlines should allow these companies to take money for things they don’t get. I’m so upset. Who can afford a full flight they never take?

Flight Ottawa to Toronto canceled and no crew was available to direct me on what to do. I opened a file and I wait to be compensated.

Great TV, easy boarding, wonderful ground crew and flight crew.

It was late leaving but made up time in the air.

Rude Customer Service at checkin, 90 minute limit in flight check in is too strict. I was in line for 30 minutes because of slow/insufficient workers. Somewhere I got to the the counter of course the employee warned me about the 90 minutes. People were cutting the lines. No one did anything.

Squeeze like sardines. ANA has much better leg room. The food on air canada was disgusting. Worse that left over microwave dinner. Like you heated up microwave dinner then saved it overnight, then microwaved it again and added nasty garnish to try to elevate but instead made it as edible as cat food.

Crew was terrific. In flight entertainment system is very slow and the touch screen can be not sensitive enough or too sensitive. It was such a pain to pause a movie in case when I unpaused it accidentally thought I presses stop. This happened 3 times. I gave up and went back to my phone for entertainment.

Everything was great. I really like how they had their safety film set up showing you the beauty of the country.

Inexperienced crew. Food was so so. They lost my luggage on a direct flight. Was flying business so my luggage was priority. Not impressed.

I liked the early check in. Flight was a bit bumpy due yo weather. Overall, everything went well.

It was awful. For a 37 minute flight time,we had 1:30 hours delay. If someone had a connection flight he or she couldn’t reach for sure. The only positive point was online check in.

Limited snack options cause the snack vendor was on strike

It’s bare bones but was on time so can’t complain.

Of all the countries I've flown to and airlines from around the world, I have never had such a dismissive an arrogant employee during boarding. After waiting in line for 20 minutes to board, I was sent to a second line for Passport verification. Natalie from Flair, repeatedly tried to scan my passport which didn't work for some reason but was too lazy to input my information manually. Bar code scanners aren't 100% reliable as we all know. She asked me my birthdate 3 times, made me wait to be the last person aboard and then smugly threatened me that my only bag could be charged for (same backpack I used as on my arrival as carry on). Natalie working in Ft. Lauderdale and the was the epitome of lobotomized tiktok brain with the charm of junk mail.

Food selection is very poor and sears are very uncomfortable.

Flight was 3 hrs late and another 2 hrs wait for baggage to arrive on carousel and a $7.00 food voucher that arrived as we were boarding our flight.

Seat rows so close together no one dares to put their seats back. Knees pressed against the seat in front, had to find a position putting my legs under the seat in front. But for 6 hours keeping that one position was ridiculous. All savings on the purchase price are taken back through charge backs for luggage $200 each way, Seat selection $44 per seat or you are seated by a computer randomly. Wife sat 5 rows away. Would avoid Flair in the future

The flight was safe (priority). Everything else is low-cost: too hard, delays, mediocre boarding, cost for carry-on and checked luggage.

Flair flight was 4 hours late due to not having a crew and the plane was filthy. Just water service Terrible experience flight 1513

Flair did not notify you when they changed gate number!

Can't be happy with a 5 hour delay. Only given $10 voucher for food and still EVERYTHING was an upcharge during the flight.

TThe first time I have ever flown with flare and both ways sucked

Cheap all-inclusive vacations from Toronto you can get for under $1,000 right now

Latest Videos

All-inclusive vacations from Toronto are a welcome break from another frigid winter that's on its way . It's good news that there are already a number of deals under $1,000 per person to be had for those looking to book a trip away.

Here are some cheap all-inclusive vacations from Toronto you can book right now.

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

Air Transat is advertising a super cheap foray to four-star accommodations in the Dominican Republic. Puerto Plata, on the island's northeast coast, is one of the more popular spots in the country to travel to, along with Punta Cana.

There are multiple options for inclusive seven-day trips in December for $859-$959 a person, including taxes and fees, to stay at the Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort, which has 11 pools, just as many restaurants, 14 bars and 24 hour drinks and snacks.

Cuba is the least pricey place to book an all-inclusive trip right now, with a ton of options of locations and resorts. Photo from Air Transat.

Veradero, Cuba

Transat also has a seven-day package to Cuba's top destination, Veradero, for just $779-$999 a person.

The four-star Barcelo Solymar Resort has three pools, nine bars and 11 restaurants to choose from, as well as, of course, all of the drinks and snacks you could want, 24 hours a day.

Travel dates are in early December to lock in these rates, but upon a quick search, you'll find that there are  tons  of all-inclusives all over the Caribbean nation for under a grand.

There are a few deals to be had if you're looking to go to Mexico, too, depending on your dates. Photo from Sunwing.

Riviera Nayarit, Mexico

While stellar deals to all types of Cuban destinations are in abundance, Mexico is not as inexpensive to book at the moment, unfortunately — but Sunwing does has one package for under $1,000 to Riviera Nayarit, a beachfront destination just outside of Puerto Vallarta.

The seven-day all-inclusive stay at the 4.5-star Riu Jalisco for the price point is coming up soon though — to get in for $885 per person, which is over 30 per cent off the usual rate, you'll have to depart on Halloween.

The beaches of Montego Bay would be absolutely dreamy this time of year. Photo from Expedia.

Montego Bay, Jamaica

Expedia is advertising  a super cheap foray to Jamaica  for just $777 per traveller if you're happy to travel in late November.

The all-inclusive trip is a bit shorter than others on this list, but the destination is one that is usually more expensive than the others.

While the 3.5-star SeaGarden Beach Resort is a bit smaller than the aforementioned resorts, it has all of the amenities you could want: a spa, two restaurants, poolside bar and terrace, and private beach set on crystal-blue waters.

...or maybe you'd like to get your tan on in Aruba this winter on the cheap. Photo from Tripadvisor.

Noord, Aruba

If you want to hit up yet another place from Beach Boys' Kokomo, maybe this Trip.ca ( via Tripadvisor ) deal is for you.

For $879, you can stay at the four-star Divi Aruba Phoenix Beach Resort for six nights in February, if you're looking for dates further into 2023.

Enjoy two pools with swim-up bar, white sand beach, spa services and shopping.

Five affordable Canadian places worth exploring this summer

With the cost of travel skyrocketing over the past few years because of inflation, more people are choosing to vacation closer to home. But even travelling domestically can still be expensive in Canada, where a return ticket across the country can cost $600 to $800, not to mention springing for a rental car when you land.

If you’re willing to skip the flight and drive your own vehicle, some cities and regions are cheaper than others. The five destinations below are rich in experiences that don’t require spending a fortune.

For an outdoors adventure: Charlevoix, Que.

cheap travel deals from toronto

Glamping has taken off with domes and yurts in Charlevoix, Que. Supplied

Glamping – camping with luxury accommodations and facilities – has taken off with domes and yurts in this region, an hour’s drive from Quebec City.

A five-kilometre-wide meteorite crashed here 400 million years ago, forming rolling mountains in a landscape that also includes fjords and numerous bays. Today, you can hike, bike, swim and kayak at popular spots such as Parc national des Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie and Parc national des Grands-Jardins. (Make your way to the Observatoire de l’Astroblème de Charlevoix to learn about the region’s history.)

To keep your energy up, indulge in local delicacies directly from farmers, cheesemongers, distillers and more on the Flavour Trail , a self-guided tour. Or explore artisan shops and boulangeries as you take in 360-degree landscapes at L’Isle-aux-Coudres, a 23-kilometre island in the Charlevoix basin that can only be reached by a free ferry.

How to stay within budget: Domaine à ciel ouvert (DACO) offers cabins starting at $130 a night, but you can also tent camp for as little as $40. Some travellers will splurge for one or two nights on luxury accommodations while camping for the rest of their time to keep costs down. Cooking your own meals with food from regional producers can save you a fair amount too.

For the culture: Surrey, B.C.

cheap travel deals from toronto

Surrey was the only Canadian destination recently featured in Food & Wine magazine as one of the next great food cities in the world. Supplied

Don’t sleep on Vancouver’s suburban neighbour. British Columbia’s second-largest city by population offers the perfect mix of urban and nature, with incredible culinary experiences: It was the only Canadian destination recently featured in Food & Wine magazine as one of the next great food cities in the world. Start your flavourful journey by checking out Surrey’s Spice Trail , which highlights foods available at restaurants and grocery stores from Colombia, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Nepal, West Africa, Mexico and more.

For even more of an up-close look at the local community, head to the Clayton Market , a biweekly pop-up (May to October), or take a fun and educational train ride on a restored heritage car with the Fraser Valley Heritage Railway Adventure ($28.83 with taxes). If you time your visit right you can also catch some summer festivals like the free Fusion Festival, which celebrates cultures from around the world.

How to stay within budget: Many hotels in Surrey, such as Best Western, Ramada and Comfort Inn & Suites, cost $200 or less a night and offer free breakfast and a kitchenette. Short-term rentals on Airbnb and Vrbo can be even cheaper. Sticking to free attractions such as the Museum of Surrey, the Historic Stewart Farm and the Surrey Nature Centre will ensure you keep costs down.

For fun with fewer crowds: Edmonton

cheap travel deals from toronto

Art Gallery of Alberta, Edmonton. Supplied

This must-go destination in Alberta offers a city trip with lower costs.

A good starting point is Fort Edmonton Park , which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. There, live actors and recreated historical buildings allow visitors to immerse themselves in history, from First Nations to fur trading . The Alberta Legislature, a stunning example of beaux arts architecture that sits on the north bank of the North Saskatchewan River, offers free guided tours if you register in advance. The Art Gallery of Alberta is always free for those under the age of 18, or for all visitors from 4 to 7 p.m. on the last Thursday of every month. And the University of Alberta Observatory has free viewings on Thursdays.

Festivals are serious business in the city and most are free to attend. For fire-eaters, magicians, musicians and more, head to the Edmonton International Street Performers Festival , which runs July 5 to 14. Many of the performances are interactive and great for kids. From Aug. 15 to 25, the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival puts on more than 200 shows at dozens of locations.

How to stay within budget: Edmonton has some great hotels that cost around $200 a night. Downtown, try the Matrix Hotel; in the historic district of Old Strathcona, the Metterra Hotel is a hidden gem. The city has great public transportation, so you don’t need a car. That said, you can rent electric scooters for two hours for $35. This is a great way to get the lay of the land quickly and dip down into the River Valley.

For wine and waves: Annapolis Valley, N.S.

cheap travel deals from toronto

Fort Anne National Historic Site in the town of Annapolis, N.S. Wally Hayes/Supplied

About an hour north of Halifax, this region is famous for its tides, wine industry, whale watching and seafood.

Your first stop should be Burntcoat Head Park : Arrive during low tide to walk the ocean floor. Then, if you stick around for a few hours (pass the time with a picnic, walking trails or interactive exhibits) you’ll be able to watch 40 to 50 feet of water – the highest tides in the world – roll in. Another option: Cape Split, ideal for a worthwhile hike with epic coastline views.

Throughout the region you’ll find historic sites that shouldn’t be missed. The Fort Anne National Historic Site was once a centre of European colonization and an important gathering place for the Mi’kmaq people. For a recreation of early colonial settlements, head across the bay to the Port Royal National Historic Site . The Annapolis Valley Macdonald Museum is also worth a stop to see a collection of more than 150 antique clocks and watches, some dating back to the late 17th century.

Wine drinkers will be spoiled for choice with more than a dozen vineyards in the valley. Many wineries, including Luckett, Grand Pré, Benjamin Bridge and Planters Ridge, offer tastings from $12 to $40 in picturesque surroundings.

How to stay within budget: Stay at a vacation home or bed and breakfast. In downtown Kentville , you’ll find the Yellow House on the Hill , which has rooms starting at $115 a night. The town is small, diverse and energetic, making it an ideal place to stay and meet locals. While there, check out the Kings County Museum and Tides Contemporary Art Gallery; both have free entry.

For walkable history: Kingston

cheap travel deals from toronto

Guards at Fort Henry, Kingston. Dwayne Brown Studio/Supplied

Though it often flies under the radar for travellers, this city is for people of all ages – with historic sites, dozens of museums and memorable shopping experiences.

A stroll through the Princess Street Promenade and Springer Market Square will give you a quick feel for what the historic downtown is all about: small artisan shops, quaint vibes and community events. Visiting during one of the Doors Open Kingston & Area events (July 20, Aug. 24 and Sept. 28) can be well worth your while for a behind-the-scenes look at Kingston City Hall, Babcock Mill, the Perth Museum and several other sites. The city’s arts and culture scene is surprisingly vast, and visitors can learn about it through self-guided tours that explore film, literary and musical landmarks, including ones connected to the Tragically Hip.

How to stay within budget: Kingston is easily accessible by Via Rail from Toronto, Ottawa or Montreal. Once there, the city is easy to get around by foot, bus or the Kingston Trolley. The latter is part of the K-Pass ($109 to $159), which is a great way to reduce costs. It includes admission to some of the top attractions, such as Fort Henry, the Great Lakes Marine Museum, 1,000 Islands cruises and the Kingston Penitentiary. For more savings, Visit Kingston offers various getaway packages that feature accommodations, entertainment, spa treatments and meals.

Editor’s note: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated The Heritage Train is free, and that the price of a ticket to FVDED In The Park festival is $29.99. This version has been updated and removed the mention of FVDED.
