Adriatic Explorer Cruise: Dubrovnik to Opatija

cruise from dubrovnik to opatija

Itinerary Details

FIRST-CLASS | CRUISE: The perfect way to experience the Croatian coastline is on a cruise. Set sail aboard a Deluxe cruise vessel, including hot tubs, beautiful sun decks and spacious cabins. Discover small waterfront towns and wander memorable Croatian islands, in between exploring the most stunning cities and natural sights of the Dalmatian coast.

Adriatic Explorer: Dubrovnik to Opatija

From the storied walls of Dubrovnik to arts loving Opatija, Croatia’s coast awaits you on this 8-day cruise to many of the country’s Dalmatian highlights.

Consider booking an extra day or two to experience all Dubrovnik has to offer, perhaps booking a day trip or two. You’ll embark at 1pm and set out for Korcula, the legendary birthplace of Marco Polo. This ‘mini Dubrovnik’ enchants with its narrow streets and hopping evening life. Then cruise into the delta of the Neretva River, visiting the archaeological museum of Vid. Overnight in Metkovic before sailing into the historic city of Split, the second largest city in Croatia and the largest on the coast. Here, you’ll enjoy a tour of Diocletian’s Palace and a walk through the historic old town.

The following day, head to Krka Waterfalls National Park, stopping in to try some local wine en route. This series of 17 falls creates one of the country’s most beautiful natural wonders. Overnight in Sebenik, an essential part of Croatia’s coast where you’ll enjoy a guided tour, with time to explore the old town. Then it’s on to Zadar, an important metropolis in historic Dalmatia, and today one of the most energetic and culturally engaged cities in Europe. The music even reaches the sea – literally – with the enormous Zadar Sea Organ playing in response to the waves.

After a night here, sail on to Rab, Croatia’s famous ‘island of love,’ where artists and Bohemian types have created a distinct flavour that remains today. Perhaps try the legendary Rab cake before you depart for Opatija. It too is a major centre of Croatian culture and entertainment, yet it retains its traditional feel. Cafes here are a serious thing, so don’t miss a coffee, cake, or chocolate cocktail while you’re exploring.

Bid farewell to Croatia with one final onboard dinner before you depart.

Lower Deck

Departure at 13h towards Korčula, an island best known as the birthplace of Marco Polo, the famous explorer with a swim stop and lunch on board. Korčula Town commonly referred to be a “miniature Dubrovnik”, as it encased by medieval stone ramparts and towers. Sightseeing with a local guide through the old town and tiny streets, built in a fish bone pattern for a reason that you will hear about! Lots of simple konobas, restaurants and cool cocktail bars for chill out time. Overnight in Korčula.

Today we discover one of the last remaining wetland deltas in Europe. We cruise to Metković, on the banks of the river Neretva after which the delta is named. Here, mandarins grow by the water channels and we take a barge ride to explore the groves, the flora and fauna, wild birds and the traditional way of life of the Neretva people. There’s a delightful, “time warp” feeling like nowhere else on the coast. Narona archeological museum in Vid, which we visit, was formally inaugurated in 2007 as the first „in situ“ museum in Croatia exhibiting the remains of a Roman temple. Named Augusteum with 17 marble statues, some outsized and some of natural height. This is where the ancient Illyrians, Greeks, Romans once sailed, and, according to legend, the pirates of Neretva planned their raids on enemy galleys. Captain’s dinner with live entertainment on board scheduled for this evening. Overnight in Metković.

From Metković our cruise continues to Split, the capital of Dalmatia region, the second largest city in Croatia with the famous Diocletian’s palace, a UNESCO protected heritage site where Roman Emperor Diocletian chose his retirement spot! Upon arrival, a local guide takes us for a walk through the historic and buzzing old town centre and to the market.

Wine and waterfalls! Cruise towards Skradin then board our coach. First stop is the famous Bibich winery for wine tasting and light tapas lunch. Back in Skradin we walk through the Krka Waterfalls National Park and visit “Skradinski Buk”. Jaw droppingly beautiful, this is the most popular part of the waterfall area. There are 17 waterfalls, with cascades up to 100 m wide, and the Krka river tumbles 45.7 meters. A never-to-forget experience is swimming under the falls so bring your swimming things and enjoy the crystal clear fresh water. Šibenik, is almost in the very central part of Croatia’s Adriatic coast and is our afternoon destination. Explore the glorious old town, the cultural monuments and possibly the most famous one here, the UNESCO listed Cathedral of St James. Wander and discover the historic core and waterfront. Some good boutique shopping too. Dinner on board. Overnight in Šibenik.

After breakfast we leave for Zadar, the oldest university town in Croatia, famous for its rich historical heritage of world importance. At every turn history is here: the Roman Forum from the 1st Century, St Donat church from the 9th century - the most famous medieval basilica and the symbol of the city. The mighty city walls encase the old town and there is a representative city gate from 16th century. Among many museums, the Museum of ancient glass stands out together with over 30 churches and majestic family palaces and villas. On the waterfront the award winning Sea Organ and “Greeting to the Sun” light installations, show the funky side of Zadar. Overnight in Zadar.

Departure towards Rab, known as the “island of love”, with an old town of the same name. Guided city tour including the medieval walls, the famous four towers (and maybe climb one of them later!) together with palaces, churches and squares. There’s a slight Montmartre feel with many artists painting and exhibiting out on the streets. Legend has it that local nuns created a special Rab cake for a visiting Pope and we will sample this after the tour. The recipe remains forever secret. Overnight in Rab.

The famous Opatija Riviera is often compared to the French Riviera and we have magnificent views of it. Royal families, celebrities and musicians have all stayed in Opatija. Our experienced guide will tell you magnificent history of Opatija and show you its most precious monuments. Walk the famous Franz Joseph promenade – Lungomare to the fishermen's village of Volosko, home to some of the best seafood restaurants in Croatia, or enjoy Kraš Choco bar to try exclusive chocolate cocktails, cakes or ice-cream. There’s a real café-society here. Farewell evening dinner on board with live entertainment, a great opportunity for swapping addresses on the last evening. Overnight in the port of Opatija.

Breakfast and time to say goodbye to the crew and all your new friends!

Museums and former noble families’ palaces and villas in the old town. In recent years Zadar has added a touch of cool with the famous Sea Organs and “Greeting to the Sun” light installations, both located on the city's waterfront. Watch the fabulous sunset from here. Guided city tour.

Some good boutique shopping too. Dinner on board.

We continue south to Split, Croatia’s second largest city where Roman Emperor Diocletian built himself a retirement palace now under UNESCO protection. Split waterfront is a happening place and there’s a buzz along the beautiful wide promenade. A local guide meets us on arrival for a walk through the heart of the bustling old town and the market.

Narona holds remains of a Roman temple – the Augusteum – and seventeen monumental marble sculptures of Roman emperors and their family members. This is where the ancient Illyrians, Greeks, Romans once sailed, and, according to legend, the pirates of Neretva planned their raids on enemy galleys. Captain’s dinner with live entertainment on board scheduled for this evening.

Departure towards Korčula, an island best known as the birthplace of Marco Polo, the famous explorer with a swim stop and lunch on board.

There is no better way to catch first sight of famous Dubrovnik than from the sea and this is our final destination – Dubrovnik. It is one of the few walled cities on the sea in the world. Writer George Bernard Shaw described it as “heaven on earth”. We cruise alongside the old city walls for a true perspective of the majesty of this place. Lunch is served on deck as we head for Gruz harbour to dock. Once moored, we transfer to the old town for a guided walking tour of this unforgettable place. In your own time, why not walk those famous ramparts (all 1940 metres long!), or take the cable car from the Old Town to Srđ mountain for fabulous views of the city itself and the Elaphiti Islands (ticket included). If you want to explore any of the museums in more detail, such as Sponza or Rectors, now is the time.

After breakfast, it’s goodbye from Dubrovnik, your crew and your new friends - for now at least. So many people return to travel again with Katarina Line on this amazing blue Adriatic wonder.

Infinity My Croatia Cruise

One of Croatia's oldest resorts, the elegant coastal town of Opatija is located in the northern part of the coast. It's a great place to start your romantic journey onboard a luxurious small ship  towards the south, especially if you are planning to see as much as possible during the 7-night cruise. On the way down to Dubrovnik you will have a chance to explore both well known places like Zadar, Split, Korčula and some hidden gems that often go overlooked: Šibenik, Rab and Metković, Croatia's answer to California.

Cruise-Map-from-Opatija-KL5.jpg

Departure at 13h towards Rab, known as the “island of love”, with an old town of the same name. Join the guided city tour, visit the medieval walls and the famous four towers (perhaps climb one of them later!) together with palaces, churches and squares. There’s a slight Montmartre feel with many artists painting and exhibiting out on the streets. Legend has it that local nuns created a special Rab cake for a visiting Pope and we will sample it after the tour. The recipe remains forever secret.

After breakfast, head for Zadar, the oldest university town in Croatia with an amazing heritage and where history looks in to the eyes: the Roman Forum from the 1st century, St Donat church from the 9th century - the most famous medieval Basilica and the city’s symbol. The mighty city walls, over 30 churches, museums and former noble families’ palaces and villas in the old town. In recent years Zadar has added a touch of cool with the famous Sea Organs and “Greeting to the Sun” light installations, both located on the city's waterfront. Watch the fabulous sunset from here. Guided city tour.

Wine and waterfalls! Cruise towards Skradin, then get aboard the coach. The first stop is the local winery for wine tasting and light tapas lunch. Back in Skradin, walk through the Krka Waterfalls National Park and visit “Skradinski Buk”. Jaw-droppingly beautiful, this is the most popular of the Krka waterfalls. There are 17 waterfalls, with cascades up to 100 m wide, and the Krka river tumbles 45.7 meters. The afternoon destination is Šibenik, a town situated in the very central part of Croatia’s Adriatic coast. Explore the glorious old town, the cultural monuments and possibly the most famous one here, the UNESCO listed Cathedral of St James. Wander around and discover the historic core and waterfront. Dinner on board.

cruise from dubrovnik to opatija

Cruise southern to Split, Croatia’s second-largest city, where Roman Emperor Diocletian built a retirement palace now under UNESCO protection. Split waterfront is a happening place and there’s a buzz along the beautiful wide promenade. Join a local guide for a walk through the heart of the bustling old town and the market.

Today, discover one of the last remaining wetland deltas in Europe. Cruise to Metković, on the banks of the river Neretva, after which the delta is named. Here, mandarins grow by the water channels. Take a barge ride to explore the groves, the flora and fauna, wild birds and the traditional way of life of the Neretva people. There’s a delightful, “time warp” feeling like nowhere else on the coast. Visit Narona archaeological museum in Vid, formally inaugurated in 2007 as the first Croatian „in situ“ museum, exhibiting the remains of a Roman temple. In fact, Narona holds the remains of the Roman temple – the Augusteum – and seventeen monumental marble sculptures of Roman emperors and their family members. This is where the ancient Illyrians, Greeks, and Romans once sailed, and, according to legend, the pirates of Neretva planned their raids on enemy galleys. Captain’s dinner with live entertainment onboard is scheduled for this evening.

cruise from dubrovnik to opatija

Departure towards Korčula, an island best known as the birthplace of Marco Polo, the famous explorer. Swim stop and lunch on board. Korčula town is commonly referred to be a “miniature Dubrovnik”, as it is encased by medieval stone ramparts and towers. Sightseeing with a local guide through the old town and tiny streets, built in a fishbone pattern for a reason you will learn about on the guided tour! Lots of simple konobas, restaurants and cool cocktail bars for chill - out time.

cruise from dubrovnik to opatija

There is no better way to catch the first sight of your final destination-the famous town Dubrovnik -than approaching from the sea. It is one of the few walled cities on the sea in the world. Writer George Bernard Shaw described it as “heaven on earth”. Cruise alongside the old city walls for a true perspective of the majesty of this town. Lunch is served on deck as headed for the Gruž harbour to dock. Once moored, join a transfer to the old town for a guided walking tour. In your free time, why not walk a 1940 metres long famous ramparts! Take the cable car from the Old Town to the Srđ mountain for fabulous views of the city itself and the Elaphiti Islands (ticket included). If you want to explore any of the museums in more detail, such as Sponza or Rectors, now is the time.

Princess Cruises Announces Revised 2025 World Cruise Itineraries

Uncertainties in the red sea and surrounding region prompts rerouting of global voyages.

By downloading this image you agree to the Princess asset use terms and conditions

SANTA CLARITA, Calif., (April 30, 2024)  – Given the ongoing situation in the Red Sea and surrounding area and following extensive consultation with global security experts and government authorities, Princess Cruises is revising the itineraries for its two 2025 World Cruises, which will no longer visit the Middle East or Asia, and now instead, will offer new port stops in Africa and Europe.

“A Princess World Cruise is truly the voyage of a lifetime and after careful consideration with guidance from global security experts and government authorities, we know our guests will understand and appreciate the change to our upcoming 2025 itineraries to avoid certain areas,” said Terry Thornton, chief commercial officer of Princess Cruises. “These global events beyond our control have necessitated these reroutings but we are pleased to continue to ensure these world cruises retain destination-rich itineraries with incredible stops along the west Africa coast and the Mediterranean.”

Island Princess World Cruise

Sailing from North America on Island Princess, the 116-day World Cruise offers two roundtrip options with departures from both Ft. Lauderdale, embarking January 5, 2025, and Los Angeles on January 20, 2025, and ends in Los Angeles on May 17, 2025. This destination dreamers delight will traverse over 36,700 nautical miles, visiting 46 destinations in 24 countries and six continents. The voyage includes visits to historic Bar, Montenegro and Taranto, Italy, along with inaugural World Cruise calls to the idyllic Greek Island of Patmos and to Volos – for the Monasteries of Meteora.

The revised World Cruise itinerary, from February 16-April 9, departs Sydney and will travel to Melbourne and Perth, then on to South Africa. From there, the cruise resumes the scheduled itinerary starting in Valletta, Malta on April 9.

Following is the amended portion of the voyage:

Those guests scheduled to originally depart or join the cruise from Dubai on March 14, 2025, will now embark or disembark four days earlier on March 9, in Cape Town, South Africa. Booked guests disembarking in Cape Town will be refunded the amount equivalent to four days of the cruise fare and those joining earlier will not incur an added cost to their cruise fare. All these guests will also receive a $300 onboard credit as a gesture of good will.

Crown Princess World Cruise

Departing from Down Under, Crown Princess - the largest ship to ever host a World Cruise - is scheduled to depart Auckland May 31, 2025; and Sydney June 4, 2025; and sail on a 113-day adventure visiting 42 destinations in 22 countries, across five continents. This cruise will also bypass the Red Sea and surrounding region, including the transit of the Suez Canal. The ship will travel via Africa instead of the Red Sea and Asia itinerary. The fully revised itinerary is currently being finalized and will be communicated shortly.
