The US Am Tour is an extremely well-run tour that provides quality tournaments at outstanding venues. I enjoy the opportunity to compete for trophies and prizes and have met many competitors who have become great friends. If you love golf and like to compete, you have to join!

Earl T.

The US Am Tour is run in a very professional manner by local & regional tournament directors at top-notch venues. The multiple flights are suited for all levels of players. The camaraderie with players you meet at each event is great & the level of competitiveness is high, so bring your A-game. The tournaments will make you play within your own abilities & tests all aspects of your game. Try and minimize the bad holes and go have fun doing it!

GARY

The US Am tour is special to me because of the friendships and camaraderie you build with people who love the game as much as you do. With their flight system it opens up competitive golf to all ages and skill levels and drives you to work harder to get to the next level in your own game. We play amazing courses, with great competition and the chance to feel like a pro is what keeps me coming back for more. Thank you US Am Tour!

CARL L

As a Senior still working full time, playing golf is enjoyable. And playing competitive golf is great fun. But playing golf on the US Am Tour is the ultimate competition for those of us “committed” amateur golfers. Competitive golf helps me to improve and test my golf game against other players of the same age and skill set. That is the unique quality of the USAT. The tournament venues, while varied with both private and public courses, always present challenges. As the USAT is a true Amateur tour, you can set your schedule to include course venues, cities, and regions that you live in or would like to travel to. Qualifying events are never a prerequisite for entry. Friendships are made with your fellow competitors, with genuine respect for each other. The end result is quality competitive golf, with a professional tour staff that makes for the ultimate amateur golf experience.

ANDREW B

After picking up golf as an adult, The US Am Tour has been an amazing way to learn the game and meet good friends through friendly competition. My first year on Tour, I placed 2nd in the 20+ flight at Nationals the year my husband took 1st place in the 12.0-15.9 flight. Now, after playing many Am Tour events together, I have improved my game and won my first US Am Tour tournament in Hogan (8.0-11.9)! Nationals is an awesome week and brings together all of the amazing friends we have made over the years. US Am Tour has become our little golf family, and I am so thankful to be a part of this amazing group!

HEATHER R

I really like the camaraderie, the courses, and definitely the competition. These parts of the US Am Tour combined with top notch run tournaments has definitely helped me step up my game!

SEAN H.

What I enjoy about playing on the US Am Tour is I get to play competitive golf and meet great people that become lifelong friends. Playing competitive golf has truly made me a better tournament player. 10 years ago when I started playing competitively more often I was a 15 handicap and have worked my way into a mid-single digit now and am having a lot of fun!

How it works: Each week, our experts from PGATOUR.COM will make their selections in PGA TOUR Fantasy Golf. Each lineup consists of four starters and two bench players that can be rotated after each round. Adding to the challenge is that every golfer can be used only three times per each of four Segments.

Aside from the experts below, Golfbet Insider Rob Bolton breaks down the field at the PGA Championship in this week's edition of Power Rankings .

Betting picks

WILL GRAY (Lead, Fantasy & Betting)

  • Winner: Harris English (+3300) – English has been hit-or-miss at Colonial but I’m willing to roll the dice given his three top-20s here, including a 2016 runner-up, and his standing as one of the best putters on TOUR (eighth in SG: Putting this season).
  • Top 10: Tony Finau (+250) – I saw just enough form from Finau last week at the PGA to go back to the well, especially on a course where he has a pair of top-5s and four top-20s since 2015.
  • Longshot: Justin Rose (+6000) – The Englishman blitzed Colonial en route to victory back in 2017 and added three top-20s since. Now he’s coming off a T6 finish at Valhalla with a game that’s clearly in form.
  • Head-to-Head (H2H): Austin Eckroat (+100) over Andrew Putnam – Eckroat finished T16 in his Colonial debut last year and has leveled up since, earning his first TOUR win and banking three top-20s in his last four starts including the PGA.

BEN EVERILL (Senior writer, Fantasy & Betting)

  • Winner: Tony Finau (+2800) – Finau was on the periphery of contention throughout the week at Valhalla, which is where I’m looking for my winner to come from this week. We might be sleeping on Morikawa, much like many of us did with Schauffele after his loss, but the value on the odds board lies here. Four top 25s here in last five years including a runner-up.
  • Top 10: Max Homa (+200) – Homa finished inside the top-10 at Colonial a year ago, and I think he can do the same again. In fact, I think he’s a good chance to snatch a victory. Another player who was on the periphery of contention at the PGA, his form is trending in the right direction.
  • Longshots: Billy Horschel (+5000) – Keeping the trend of players rounding into form last week without actually expelling excess energy is Horschel. Returned to the winners circle recently in Punta Cana and rocketed home last week into the top 10. Plus money for a top-20 looks decent despite only fair results at Colonial in the past.
  • H2H: Austin Eckroat (+100) over Andrew Putnam – I am very fearful having the same H2H as Will Gray, but I share his sentiments on Eckroat being on a new level this season. Putnam does enjoy Colonial but this appears a chance to get plus money on what at worst is a coin flip match up and at best is books missing Eckroat’s rise.

CHRIS BREECE (Senior content manager, Golfbet)

  • Winner: Denny McCarthy (+5000) – With two finishes in the top six recently (including a playoff loss) McCarthy is showing he’s ready to take the next step in his career; becoming a PGA TOUR winner. I take the missed cut at the PGA as a positive. He’ll have more in the tank.
  • Top 10: Brian Harman (+320) – Our key stat last week was driving. The closer you got to the green the less important the stats were. Colonial is the opposite. Harman’s game gets better the closer he gets to the green.
  • Longshot: Tom Hoge (+5000) – He has shown signs of coming around the last two weeks. He’s second on TOUR in S.G. Approach, our big metric this week.
  • H2H: Jordan Spieth (+140) over Collin Morikawa – Spieth is great here. Morikawa is due for an emotional letdown after a lot of great golf lately. The underdog value makes it even better.

MATT DELVECCHIO (Social content manager, Fantasy & Betting)

  • Winner: Collin Morikawa (+1200) – On a tear over the last two months, Morikawa hasn’t finished anything worse than T23 since the Masters. A stretch that includes two majors and two Signature Events. If Scheffler wasn’t in the field he would be a sub +1000 favorite.
  • Top 10: Tony Finau (+250) – A guy who likes Colonial and has the game for it showed up big last week at the PGA. After a big week he heads to a course he likes and finishes high.
  • Longshot: Billy Horschel (+5000) – Sneaky great week last week at the PGA which adds to a sneaky good season for Horschel. If Colonial plays hard like it did last year then I like this pick less. If it’s playing easier with less wins and softer greens, he should be able to pile on birdies and make a run.
  • H2H: Austin Eckroat over Putnam (+100) – I think the wrong guy is favorited here with Putnam laying -125 in the matchup. Eckroat has proved if he’s playing well early, he can make runs at tournaments. Give me the better player at plus money.

PGA Tour's Grayson Murray dies at 30

No cause of death was given for the golfer, who withdrew from the schwab cup challenge in fort worth on friday..

Golfer Grayson Murray has died at age 30. Murray withdrew from competition in the Charles Schwab Challenge on Friday, May 24, due to illness, according to ESPN. In this photo, Murray plays his shot from the 12th tee during the first round of the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club on May 16, 2024 in Louisville, Kentucky.

Two-time PGA Tour winner Grayson Murray died Saturday morning at age 30, one day after he withdrew from the Charles Schwab Cup Challenge at Colonial.

There were no immediate details on the circumstances of his death, only shock and grief from the PGA Tour and his management team.

“I am at a loss for words,” PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said. “The PGA Tour is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.”

His management company, GSE Worldwide, confirmed the death and said it was heartbroken.

“We will hold off on commenting until we learn further details, but our heart aches for his family, his friends and all who loved him during this very difficult time,” GSE said in a statement.

Monahan said he spoke with Murray’s parents to offer condolences, and they asked that the tournament in Fort Worth, Texas, continue.

He said grief counselors would be on site at the PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour event in Knoxville, Tennessee. Monahan headed to Texas and later appeared on CBS as the third round was ending.

“To see the devastation on the faces of every player coming in is really difficult to see and really just profound,” Monahan said. “Grayson was a remarkable player, but he was a very courageous man. I’ve always loved that about him.”

Murray, who had dealt with alcohol and mental health issues in the past, made a massive turnaround this year and won the Sony Open, hitting wedge to 3 feet for birdie on the final hole to get into a playoff and winning it with a 40-foot putt.

He also won the Barbasol Championship in 2017.

“It was a huge shock. My heart sank,” said Webb Simpson, who learned of Murray’s death shortly before teeing off at Colonial. He said Murray was the first winner of his junior tournament and they shared the same swing coach as juniors.

“I just hate it so much,” Simpson said. “I’m miss him. I’m thankful he was in the place with his faith before this morning happened.”

Murray was No. 58 in the world rankings coming off a tie for 43rd in the PGA Championship last week at Valhalla. He also made the cut in his Masters debut, finishing 51st, and was in the field for the U.S. Open next month at Pinehurst No. 2.

Murray, who grew up in North Carolina, was among the most talented juniors in the country. He won the prestigious Junior World Championship in San Diego three straight years and earned the Arnold Palmer Scholarship at Wake Forest.

He wound up going to three colleges, lastly at Arizona State, and won as a 22-year-old PGA Tour rookie at the Barbasol Championship.

Murray said in January that he had been sober for eight months, was engaged to be married, had become a Christian and felt his best golf was ahead of him. He was appointed to the 16-member Player Advisory Council.

“My story is not finished. I think it’s just beginning,” Murray said in Hawaii. “I hope I can inspire a lot of people going forward that have their own issues.”

Murray said he used to drink during tournament weeks as a rookie because he knew he had talent and felt he was invincible. He also brought attention to himself through social media, openly criticizing other players and getting into one social media spat with Kevin Na over Na’s reputation as a slow player.

But he felt like he turned the corner when he sought help — letting others fight for him, is how he explained it this year.

“It took me a long time to get to this point,” Murray said in January. “That was seven years ago, over seven years ago. I’m a different man now. I would not be in this position right now today if I didn’t put that drink down eight months ago.”

Peter Malnati played with Murray at Colonial. He offered to go on the CBS telecast Saturday afternoon and immediately broke down trying to talk about him.

“It’s a huge loss for all of us on the PGA Tour,” Malnati said. “As much as we want to beat each other, we’re one big family, and we lost one today. It’s terrible.”

2024 Charles Schwab Challenge predictions, expert picks, odds, field rankings, golf best bets at Colonial

O n the heels of a dramatic PGA Championship, the PGA Tour returns to action for the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge. Traveling to Colonial Country Club once again, players will face a new test after the golf course underwent extensive renovations following the 2023 edition of the tournament.

A year ago, Emiliano Grillo defeated Adam Schenk in a playoff with Scottie Scheffler just missing out on extra holes. The world No. 1 headlines the field this year following a hectic week in Louisville. The Dallas-Fort Worth area resident looks to get back to his winning ways at a venue where he has done everything but raise a trophy.

Winning four of his last six events, Scheffler comes to Colonial having finished T3 in 2023 and losing in a playoff to his good friend Sam Burns in 2022. Scheffler is joined in the field by a number of his U.S. Ryder Cup teammates including Collin Morikawa, Jordan Spieth, Max Homa and Brian Harman.

Morikawa continues to make strides towards his former quality as he once again factored in a major championship. A member of the final group in the final round in the first two major championships of the season, the two-time major champ aims to capture his first title of 2024 in Texas.

Speaking of Texas, Spieth will hope a return to his backyard will bring a return of his form. There may be no other venue on the PGA Tour schedule more conducive for the 30-year-old's success as he boasts eight top-10 finishes in 11 appearances including a win in 2016.

Si Woo Kim, Sungjae Im, Min Woo Lee and Tom Kim round out a large international contingent at Colonial with Tony Finau, Denny McCarthy and Chris Kirk also in the mix.

2024 Charles Schwab Challenge schedule

Dates:  May 23-26 |  Location:  Colonial Country Club — Fort Worth, Texas

Par:  70 |  Yardage:  7,289 |  Purse:  $9,100,000

2024 Charles Schwab Challenge field, odds

  • Scottie Scheffler (5/2): Outside of Saturday's performance, Scheffler was near flawless at Valhalla with rounds of 67-66-73-65. If he is able to get through last week and still finish inside the top 10, one has to wonder if that truly is his floor. It has been the last nine tournaments as he hasn't finished worse than T10 since the end of January. He's gained strokes putting in six straight events, has a terrific history at this golf course and remains far and away the best player in the world. A fifth win of the season would come to the surprise of no one.
  • Collin Morikawa (12-1): Ever since the Masters, Morikawa has started to string together quality starts. He has rattled off five straight top 25s including top fives at the year's first two major championships and another top 10 at the RBC Heritage. The 27-year-old insists he is close to finding the golf swing that led to his early success, but the numbers don't necessarily agree quite yet. Morikawa has enjoyed a fantastic month both on and around the greens with his iron play slowly returning. If the approach play matches the short-game prowess this week, Morikawa should love his chances.
  • Jordan Spieth (20-1): If you haven't sounded the alarm on Spieth yet, this week should be the last straw if things get hairy. The three-time major champion has one top 20 in a 10-tournament stretch that includes four missed cuts and a disqualification. Despite some concerns about his game and his wrist, Spieth has started to show that he may be heading in the right direction. He continues to drive the golf ball as well as ever and the early season short-game woes appear to be a thing of the past. The missing link is easy to identify when looking at his stat sheet: his iron play.
  • Max Homa (20-1): A win feels close, and it may very well come this week. Homa comes into Texas having finished inside the top 10 in three of his last seven events including two weeks ago at Quail Hollow. He has the entirety of his game cooperating, and a slight uptick from the big stick could yield a big result. After a sluggish start to his career at Colonial, Homa has finished T23 and T9 in his last two appearances.
  • Tony Finau (30-1): Finishing T18 at the PGA Championship may have been the worst Finau could have done with how he hit his irons at Valhalla. The 34-year-old gained just about 10 strokes on approach in Louisville only to be undone by some poor driving and putting numbers. The good news for Finau is he tends to putt well at Colonial, evidenced by his second-place finish in 2019 and T4 result in 2023.
  • Harris English (33-1)
  • Si Woo Kim (35-1)
  • Sungjae Im (35-1)
  • Brian Harman (40-1)
  • Denny McCarthy (40-1)

Golfer Grayson Murray's parents reveal his cause of death in emotional statement

golf tour weekly

The golf world received a stunning blow on Saturday with the death of rising PGA Tour star Grayson Murray at the age of 30.

On Sunday, May 26, his parents – Eric and Terry Murray – revealed their son's cause of death in an emotional statement released on social media.

"Life wasn't always easy for Grayson, and although he took his own life, we know he rests peacefully now," the statement shared by the PGA Tour read.

The family said they spent the last 24 hours "trying to come to terms with the fact that our son is gone." Having to come to terms with their loss and share it with the public, they said, "it's a nightmare."

The family said one thing is certain, Murray was loved by "all of his extended family, by his friends, by his fellow players and – it seems – by many of you reading this."

Murray, a two-time winner on the PGA Tour who battled alcohol issues and depression, played the first round and part of the second round in this week's Charles Schwab Challenge, but withdrew from the event after 16 holes.

"We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones," PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said Saturday . "I reached out to Grayson's parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play. They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so."

Professional golfer Grayson Murray, 30, dies by suicide after withdrawing from Charles Schwab Challenge

Murray was a two-time winner on the pga tour.

Professional golfer Grayson Murray has died. He was 30 years old. Murray's death comes after he withdrew Friday during the second round of the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge, citing an illness.

A day after Murray's death rocked the larger sporting world, his parents announced in a statement through the PGA Tour that he died by suicide.

"We would like to thank the PGA Tour and the entire world of golf for the outpouring of support," Eric and Terry Murray said. "Life wasn't always easy for Grayson, and although he took his own life, we know he rests peacefully now."

An undeniable talent, Murray was the second-youngest golfer in history to make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour before turning eventually pro in 2015. He bounced up and down between the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour over the course of his career, becoming a polarizing figure at times because of frequent outbursts on the course.

Still, his potential consistently flashed as he won twice on the PGA Tour -- capturing the 2017 Barbasol Championship and 2024 Sony Open in Hawaii -- and three times on the Korn Ferry Tour.

When he won the Sony Open, it seemed as if Murray had turned a corner after battling anxiety, depression and alcohol abuse throughout his young career. He said in January that he had been sober since early 2023. He also shared that he was unprepared for life as a pro when he first got out of college and began traveling.

"Yes, I would drink during tournament weeks," Murray said after his Sony Open win. "It was my outlet. I thought I was invincible coming out here as a 22-year-old, winning as a rookie, played three days hungover when I won. Best thing and worst thing that ever happened to me was winning my rookie year -- but also feeling like I was invincible."

Murray cited his faith and his fiancee as helping ground him, and he spoke about his road to recovery.

"It took me a long time to get to this point," he said. "… I'm a different man now. I would not be in this position right now today if I didn't put that drink down eight months ago."

Murray added: "People who don't know me, I'll have to show it through my actions, and they'll get back on Grayson's side. My demeanor is so much better. It's really a lot of fun now. I really don't live and die by a golf shot anymore. I'm not going to sit here and say it's going to be all glory and roses, but it's going to be a lot better."

The PGA Tour considered postponing play at the Charles Schwab Challenge as the golf world was rocked by Murray's death . However, his parents insisted the tournament continue as scheduled as it was what their son would have wanted.

"We were devastated to learn -- and are heartbroken to share -- that PGA Tour player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words," said PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan in a Saturday statement. "The PGA Tour is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.

"I reached out to Grayson's parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play. They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so. As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes."

A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Murray attended Wake Forest, East Carolina and Arizona State where he played golf before turning pro. In 141 career PGA Tour starts, Murray had 10 top-10 finishes, including those two victories.

The PGA Tour has sent grief counselors to both tournament sites this week and made others available virtually for its members.

Pga tour star grayson murray dead at 30, share this article.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Grayson Murray, a two-time PGA Tour winner who battled alcohol issues and depression, has died, according to PGA Tour officials. He was 30.

Murray played the first round and part of the second round in this week’s Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club, but withdrew from the event after 16 holes on Friday, citing an illness.

No cause of death has been listed, but PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan issued a statement to staff and players stating that grief counselors would be on hand. The tournament will continue as scheduled.

Murray attended Wake Forest University, East Carolina University, and Arizona State University, and later won the 2017 Barbasol Championship and the 2024 Sony Open in Hawaii.

“We were devastated to learn — and are heartbroken to share — that PGA Tour player Grayson Murray passed away this morning,” Monahan said in his note. “I am at a loss for words. The PGA Tour is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones. I reached out to Grayson’s parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play. They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so.

“As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes. The PGA Tour has grief counselors available at both tournament sites, as well as virtually for those not in the field. I am en route to Ft. Worth and will share more information when we can.”

After capturing three straight IMG Junior World titles starting in 2006, he became the second youngest player to make the cut at a Korn Ferry Tour event when he did so at the age of 16. He also played in the 2013 U.S. Open at Merion as an amateur.

Murray showed great promise on the course, winning the 2017 Barbasol despite drinking during tournament week and admitting in January that he played three days hungover when he won.

“Best thing and worst thing that ever happened to me was winning my rookie year,” he said. “I think the alcohol brought a side out of me that wasn’t me. It was kind of the monster in me in a way.”

Photos: PGA Tour winner Grayson Murray through the years

But the early success proved to be short-lived. He struggled to make cuts and conceded he was jealous of the players he grew up competing against, who were having greater success. Along the way, he had a Twitter spat with a fellow player, suffered a scooter accident in 2022 in Bermuda , and threatened to quit on multiple occasions. Murray also dealt with anxiety and depression, and said there were days he didn’t want to get out of bed.

“I just thought I was a failure,” he said. “I thought I had a lot of talent that was just a waste of talent.”

It appeared his life turned around, however, as Murray had gotten sober in 2023.

“It was by choice,” he said after winning the Sony Open. “It was time.”

He regained exempt status on the PGA Tour after winning twice on the Korn Ferry Tour last year and set out to treat his return to the big leagues as a new beginning.

A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Murray said he was treating the 2024 season as if it was his rookie year all over again.

“I was young and thought I was invincible. Wasn’t doing the correct stuff off the course to really give myself the best chance to succeed out here,” he said. “My scooter accident in Bermuda was really a low point in my life. You know, I’ve obviously been vocal about the alcohol use in the past. I’m over eight months sober now. I have a beautiful fiancée that I love so much and who is so supportive of me, and my parents are so supportive of me.”

Murray made waves via social media in 2021 when he revealed his struggles with Tour life that he said had led him to become an alcoholic. Murray claimed he was on probation with the PGA Tour after he got drunk in a Hawaii hotel bar despite causing “no scene whatsoever.” He also expressed disappointment that the Tour didn’t help him deal with his alcohol problem.

“We are saddened and heartbroken to learn about the sudden passing of Grayson Murray,” Kevin Canning, Murray’s agent, said in a statement. “Grayson has been a longtime member of the GSE family and hearing the news this morning shocked all of us. We will hold off on commenting until we learn further details but our heart aches for his family, his friends and all who loved him during this very difficult time.”

The PGA is currently hosting the Charles Schwab Challenge tournament through Sunday, May 26, at the Colonial Golf Course in Fort Worth, Texas. Murray had withdrawn ahead of the Thursday, May 23, first round, citing an undisclosed illness. It is unknown if his sickness led to his death.

Murray, who went pro in 2015, competed at his first Masters last month. He recently won the Sony Open in January.

“What an incredible week. This couldn’t be possible without the support of my family, caddie, coaches and my sponsors @mizunogolfnorthamerica @stateandliberty @footjoy,” Murray wrote via Instagram at the time. “I’m proud to be the 2024 @sonyopenhawaii champion. Trans golfer Hailey Davidson gets alternate spot for U.S. Women’s Open

After being banned from a smaller tour for being a trans woman, Hailey Davidson again refused to yield her LPGA Tour dream.

golf tour weekly

For the last four years, Hailey Davidson has fought for a dream, one stroke at a time. The Scotland-born, Florida-based golfer had fought through finding her truth as a transgender woman, rekindling her love for the game and the prejudice of some in a quest for a coveted LPGA tour card.

Monday was her first tournament opportunity in two months since a regional tour banned her , and any other trans woman, from their female events.

She battled through a sectional USGA U.S. Women’s Open qualifier in Bradenton, Fla., to a three-way playoff for an alternate spot in one of the major tournaments in women’s golf. Among those also in the playoff was two-time LPGA winner Jasmine Suwannapura .

With a 25-foot putt, Davidson beat the odds again to earn first alternate. If automatic qualifiers Amalie Zalsman or Pimpsa Sisutham can’t play when the U.S. Women’s Open starts in Lancaster, Pa., on May 30, Davidson would step in and tee off.

“I felt I had nothing left to lose and just went out and played my game,” Davidson told Outsports. “The hard part was bogeying two of my last three holes, along with a three-putt par on 17. So when I finished I assumed I was out of it after seeing the morning scores before going out for Round two.”

In that second round, Davidson was able to chip away as Zalsman and Sisutham both struggled through the second 18 holes of the total 36. However, a bogie at 17 stymied Davidson’s bid for a ticket to the Open, but opened the door to a possible second chance.

“I had around 1 1/2 to 2 hours to wait until finding out I was in a playoff, but my best friend caddied for me which honestly made the world of difference with me mentally and physically that day,” she said.

“Looking back, I try not to think if I just went par, par, par to finish I’d be in automatically, but rather that I stuck it out and won a playoff. It’s all about perspective.”

golf tour weekly

Perspective is a word that has become mantra in Davidson’s journey in golf and life before becoming the first transgender woman to win a professional event in 2021 . A kid born with clubfoot who fought through years of surgery to be a winning golfer in high school and college. An adult who faced her truth, a transition and gamely worked her way back to golf, to pushing for every opportunity she could find up to battling at LPGA Q-School.

Two years of intense work to improve her overall game showed during this season on the regional NXXT Tour. She led the overall tour standings and was in position to gain prized exemptions on the Epson Tour, the step before the LPGA Tour.

The anti-trans contagion that seems to have caught a number of sports reached the NXXT Tour. In January the tour announced it would begin a review of the tour’s transgender policy . The review included a new round of hormone testing for Davidson and a poll of the other competing golfers on Davidson’s participation.

Davidson, with a single tour win and a number of high finishes, stated she was open to the review but also knew the underlying factor behind it.

“When I won the first time, people lost their minds and then it went away for about a year,”  she said in an interview with U.K.-based Sky News on Jan. 22 . “Again, it happened about a year later so this is about the third or fourth time something like this has happened.”

In March, the policy review turned into a policy change that banned all transgender women from the NXXT Tour , even a player who has conformed to all the regulations of the USGA and the LPGA like Davidson.

golf tour weekly

Monday’s finish, even as an alternate, was seen as sweet vindication.

“I knew the ban wasn’t based in any truth so I needed to prove myself and show the world I am not a quitter and will never be one,” Davidson said. “I knew if I played my game, I could play in the U.S. Open which is the highest level of women’s golf compared to the NXXT.”

“Quit” is not in the Hailey Davidson dictionary. Her Instagram page shows that definitively. It’s an array of videos of her constantly working to make her game ready for the moment she can take the fight to a tournament leaderboard.

The NXXT Tour ban may have taken away a steady slate of tournaments, but it didn’t douse her fire to play on.

“Playing again meant the world to me. Competitive golf is my life and having that taken from me [hurt] me,” she said. “The ban really [hurt] 90% of my yearly schedule so now I need to make sure to play well in the few chances I get which only makes me work harder. The opposite of what they wanted when they banned me.”
