WHAT TO SEE ON SCOTLAND TOURS FROM INDIA

There are many routes from Edinburgh that you could follow to see Scotland’s top attractions depending on the attractions you wish to see, your length of stay and the pace of your travel. Below are some popular Scotland trip ideas by number of days.

Under a week: For most Scotland trips from India, the Scottish Highlands are the main attraction. If this beautiful wilderness area is on your must-see list, give yourself at least 4 - 5 days to see the most famous Highland sights with overnights in the Inverness , Fort William or Loch Lomond areas. Want to visit some islands? Then plan to spend at least 6 days to travel from Edinburgh through the Highlands and to either the Isle of Skye or the Oban and Isle of Mull area . On this express route of Scotland, you can visit breathtaking attractions such as Loch Ness , the picturesque Glen Coe and Eilean Donan Castle.

1 - 2 weeks: To get the classic Scottish experience on your Scotland trip from India, we recommend travelling in the country for about 10 days. With this much time you can take a journey alongside Scotland’s beautiful east coast to the city of St Andrews and the “Castle Trail” region of Aberdeenshire before heading into the Highlands and onwards. In 12 days or more you can also visit the Orkney Islands and drive along the scenic North Coast 500 route or travel even further to the quiet islands of Harris and Lewis in the Outer Hebrides .

2 - 3 weeks: In 17 - 21 days you can do the ultimate road trip of Scotland, including the east coast, Highlands and many of the major islands -- even the far-flung Shetland Isles , the northernmost point of Scotland and all of Britain.

Highly recommend Nordic Visitor

This is our second tour with Nordic Visitor. Agents used before the tour were always very prompt with responses to our questions. During the tour, we found the accommodation perfect, guide very informative and friendly, and the driver got used to where we needed to go without any problems. We would definitely use Nordic Visitor again!

Smooth experience

Throughout the years we have travelled a lot, but never with a group tour. This trip was our first time and it did not disappoint. The tour guide, the bus driver, our fellow passengers, the weather, accommodation, variety of activities, and how smoothly everything went makes me question why we never toured like this before!

Amazing experience!

We had an amazing experience with Nordic Visitor! Our guides, Richard and Tim, were organised, knowledgeable, and very friendly! You can tell quality and customer satisfaction are very important. We will be back!

An unforgettable holiday

It was an unforgettable holiday. They took care of everything, and we got to wonder and explore with little hassle. If you want to visit Scotland (or anywhere else Nordic Visitor has tours) they are the way to do it. Already talking about our next adventure with Nordic Visitor.

An indescribably fantastic experience!

We are two middle-aged women who had never been to the UK before. My sister-in-law always wanted to go to Scotland, so I started researching and came upon Nordic Visitor through internet searches. I checked for reviews and found the company to be highly recommended. I started corresponding with Kirsten. She was extremely kind, very helpful and was able to put my nervous mind at ease. The package she put together for us was perfect! From my first email, the airport pick up and drop off service, and the tour with Dave, it was an indescribably fantastic experience!

I can't thank Nordic Visitor enough

This is our second trip in two years to Scotland with Nordic Visitor, and we are seriously thinking about another. I can't thank Chris enough for his patience and expertise when booking this trip.

The tour package materials were top notch. Spiral bound itinerary, recommended activities, restaurant recommendations and the large-scale road map of Scotland were a nice touch. Magdalena, our Nordic Visitor representative, responded promptly to our questions. Accomodation was all great.

Perfect vacation!

For our 50th wedding anniversary, we trusted Nordic Visitor to make our vacation a memorable one, and they made it beyond special. Chris, our tour planner, did everything to accommodate our needs and answered our questions quickly. It was an absolutely perfect vacation!

We booked a 4-day Christmas Tour of Edinburgh which included hotel accommodation, a walking tour of the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle, a day tour of the Highlands and Lowlands, castles, and lochs, and also a whisky distillery tour. The hotel was in an amazing location near the Christmas Markets and popular attractions. The day tours were such a wonderful way to experience the countryside outside of Edinburgh. We also added a driving service to drive us to and from the airport and the drivers were so lovely. The care package left at the hotel consisting of maps and suggested eateries was such a delightful bonus. We loved that every aspect of our trip was planned and ready for us once we arrived which diminished any travel stress that one may experience when travelling abroad.

We were in good hands

As first-time visitors to Edinburgh, and senior citizens, our choice to use Nordic Visitor was an excellent one. The welcome package we received at the hotel was really helpful, with our tour vouchers, maps and restaurant recommendations. We would not have known what hotel to select and the one selected for us was perfect. The choice of tours offered was perfect for a 5-day visit. So glad to learn about the Royal Mile and visit the castle. The trip through the Highlands and Loch Ness was beautiful. Our travel agent, Rebecca, always quickly responded to email questions prior to departure. Thank you! Nordic Visitor made our trip easy and rewarding. We were in good hands.

Highly professional service

Nordic Visitor is a highly professional tour company. From beginning to end, we have no complaints. Our travel consultant, Chris, was very quick to answer all our questions from start to finish. Could not be more pleased.

Absolutely wonderful!

Our trip was absolutely wonderful! Magda was great to work with and helped us through the whole process. Everyone we worked with from the beginning through the end of the trip was absolutely marvellous.

Flights to Scotland from India

The two major international airports in Scotland are in Glasgow , Scotland’s largest city, and in Edinburgh , the usual starting point for Nordic Visitor tours. Trips to Scotland from India typically involve one or two connecting flights, usually at major airports such as London Heathrow. Some of the largest airlines with 1-stop flights from India to Scotland include (but are not limited to) British Airways, Emirates and KLM. We recommend checking with the airlines for flight availability and timetables. Flights are not included in Nordic Visitor packages.

The distance between Scotland and India is roughly 7,692 km (4,780 miles) thus the India to Scotland flight time can be lengthy with the airport layovers. To give you an estimate, a British Airways flight from Mumbai to Edinburgh can take from 13 hours or longer, depending on the duration of the connection in London. As the time difference between Scotland and India (Mumbai) is 5 hours, we at Nordic Visitor highly recommend adding an extra day to the start of your tour Scotland trip package from India.

With JourneyCart, we planned honeymoon tour to Mauritius. We got a decent hotel booking by Journey Cart. The hotel serves Indian food and it's located in front of Mauritius west coast beach. Mauritius sightseeing was also planned well, with rest day after an activity day. Overall, it was a very good Mauritius experience with Journey Cart's arrangements. Mr. Abhilash Sadhale

Journey Cart helped us to make our honeymoon trip to Kerala memorable. Team helped throughout our journey answering all of our queries. Most important aspect of our journey was the driver (and his AC car) who was with us all the time - he was very kind, fluent in English and Hindi and cooperative. Hotels were of extraordinary quality. Meal (dinner and breakfast) quality was also good. I really would recommend Journey Cart to anyone who is planning to make their holidays memorable with their beloved ones. Mr. Vishal Mohan Telangre

5 Day Skye & Highland Fling Tour

5 Day Skye & Highland Fling

I just finished my 5 day trip with Macbackpackers and I wish it wasn’t over! Our tour guide Neil kept me entertained the whole entire trip with his humorous jokes and interesting stories about Scotland. We got to see so many things in the span of 5 days, it was the perfect trip to introduce me to this beautiful place. Will 100% recommend Macbackpackers to everyone!

3 Day Loch Ness & Skye Tour

  • Coach / Bus

3 Day Loch Ness & Skye

Never been to Scotland before and was meant to hire a car but booked the 3 day Lock Ness and Isle of Skye tour instead - I am SO happy we did! Our guide Tim was funny, knowledgable, just a straight up good bloke. It was lovely to go visit less-touristy destinations in Scotland and hear the history of the areas and attractions along the way. We went for lots of lovely hikes, saw stunning views, pet Highland cows, did Scottish dancing, and drank free whiskey! Tim’s daughter came and sang beautifully for us at the isle of Skye. We stayed at a private guesthouse in Skye and lakeside at Loch Ness, waking up to magical views. We feel very lucky to have had such a fantastic guide and tour and would absolutely book again with Macpackers. We made amazing friends along the way with the other guests on the tour. Can’t complain! 10/10.

Bonnie Scotland Tour

Bonnie Scotland

We had an amazing trip with our guide Andrew and driver Davie. Andrew shared the history of the places we visited and kept us entertained with his unique sense of humour. We enjoyed the beauty of the Scottish countryside dotted with sheep and the occasional “Hairy Coo”. Highlights were Culloden, Dunottar Castle, Palace of Scone and the evening of Scottish music and dance.

Country Roads of Scotland (Classic, 9 Days) Tour

Country Roads of Scotland (Classic, 9 Days)

We had a fantastic and thorough tour experience of Country Roads of Scotland with our Tour Director Greg Colgin. He gave us a holiday to always look back on with very fond memories. In nine days on the road we saw more and did more than expected. The Optional Experiences amped up the energy required but thank good goodness we bought in. Greg has a strong knowledge of Scotland's history, other points of interest and proudly talked about the stunning countryside. We appreciated hearing about Scotland's music artists and movie and book titles we might find later. Greg has a nice manner, is very energized and engages easily with others. Les our coach driver was very responsible behind the wheel and the coach vehicle was extremely comfortable. Would do it again!

Highlights of Scotland Tour

Highlights of Scotland

This was my second G Adventures tour and it proved to be as enjoyable as the first one, which was the main reason my wife and I booked it. The small size of the tour group and the variety of people made it all the better. The tour offered a good balance between structured visits of major attractions and free time to explore on our own. I would not hesitate to recommend a G Adventures tour to anyone seeking a guided travel experience in the company of other like-minded travelers.

Intrepid needs to tighten up this tour. Two free afternoons is too much when one has only three days on the island. Either make the tour two full days or two full days with one full day free to make plans to go to Hoy or Rousay. Give people guidance on what to do on the free day.

He told us all the stories and folklore and played an amazing track of Scottish music that he put together himself. If you want a breathtaking tour of Scotland, I highly recommend this tour.

3-Day Orkney Explorer Small-Group Small-Group Tour from Inverness

Seana, faced with having to tell us the Orkney Tour was cancelled while in progress, managed our disappointment, sorted things out for the 2 wishing to leave, and then proceeded to guide us on an incredible 3 day replacement North Coast 500 (538!) tour, backwards :) She was passionate and impressive with her intimate and widespread knowledge and love for every inch of the tour, places, geography, history, tales, music - and magical with it's delivery throughout the tour. Professional yet fun, delightful smiling eyes, expert driver! We thoroughly enjoyed the tour, and would travel with Seana again and again :) Thank you Seana!

What people love about Scotland Tours

The tour is great as Neil is very knowledgeable, sharing the Scottish history and stories for each location. As there are too many places to cover for 5 days, we got to disucss and vote for our preferred places to visit.
Me and my friend took the 3 day Isle of Skye tour and it exceeded all our expectations. We were lucky to have sunny weather and see the aurora lights but more than that we got really lucky with our tour guide Branka. She had such a positive energy, there was no problem she wouldn’t be able to solve and she had an interesting story to tell about all locations we went to ( plus the whole playlist of music we listen was carefully selected just for the trip). I wouldn’t usually go for a bus tour while on holiday but this one exceeded all my expectations. It’s a great way to see Scotland and learn about the history and culture. Thank you Branka, you’re the best :-) I’ll definitely join your tour again when I’m in Scotland.
We thoroughly enjoyed our Bonnie Scotland tour. The location was beautiful and the trip well organized. Our tour guide, Gavin, was simply the best. Loved the experience!!

Scotland Ireland

There are few drives as beautiful as in Scotland and Ireland. In Scotland, a lush beautiful country, the roads hug the rivers and lakes flowing in the valleys making it a beautiful journey. In Ireland, it gets wilder as the waves of the Atlantic hit the rugged shoreline, which when we witness from our drive would take our breath away. The Wild Atlantic Way as it is known is one of the most scenic drives in Europe. This tour also traces the path of some of the Scottish and Irish whiskeys through this journey.

Arrive in Edinburgh

On arrival in the afternoon, proceed to our hotel in the city centre for check-in. After freshening up, we’ll go for a walk around the Royal Mile . Whisky enthusiasts will particularly enjoy this area as they can try the famous and many underrated drams. Dinner and overnight stay in Edinburgh.

In the morning, we will enjoy a guided city tour of Edinburgh which includes a visit to Edinburgh Castle . After lunch, we’ll go for an exclusive Johnnie Walker Princes Street experience for a guided tasting session with whisky experts and get to know more about the animated way it’s made. Spend the evening at leisure. Dinner and overnight stay in Edinburgh.

Edinburgh - Aberlour

After breakfast, depart for Aberlour. We’ll take the scenic route there via Loch Tay, the sixth-largest lake in Scotland, it’s like a freshwater paradise. We also pass through the beautiful Cairngorms National Park on the way. On reaching, check in to our hotel in the highlands and spend the evening at leisure. This region is the birthplace of some of the most famous scotch whisky in Scotland. Many tributaries here merge with River Spey, which runs parallel to our town, making the landscape very scenic. Dinner and overnight stay in Aberlour.

Today, we’ll first visit Walker’s factory, a brand that makes UK’s favourite shortbread. Later we’ll visit Dufftown to take a tour of the Glen Grant distillery and learn how one of the most famous single malt scotch whisky is made. After lunch at a local eatery, we’ll go to Speyside Cooperage to know about the ancient art of barrel coopering. Post this we will be free to enjoy an evening walk along the Spey river. Dinner and overnight stay in Aberlour.

Aberlour - Loch Lomond

The drive today is breathtaking, we will first pass the coastal town of Inverness and then head south to drive on the banks of the famous Loch Ness, a 37 km long water body believed to be home to a mythical creature. We’ll listen to its story from our guide on a one-hour cruise. Later, further down south to our hotel in Loch Lomond region for dinner and an overnight stay.

Loch Lomond - Kilkenny (Ireland)

We’ll proceed to Glasgow airport and take a flight to Dublin. On arrival, drive to Kilkenny, a pretty medieval town which is a hub for handicrafts like pottery, paintings and jewellery. In the evening, go for a walk on its picturesque streets around town. Dinner and overnight stay in Kilkenny.

Kilkenny - Killarney

Today we’ll first stop by the most beautiful hilltop castle in Ireland - Rock of Cashel. After which we’ll continue on our way to Cobh, a seaport town, also known as Titanic’s last port of call. We’ll go for a one-of-a-kind Titanic experience here at their exhibition centre. Post this, we’ll drive to Killarney, a very special place in our itinerary. Dinner and overnight stay in Killarney.

Ring of Kerry

Before starting with our drive on Wild Atlantic Way, we’ll attend a dog show by the District’s Canine Club. Ring of Kerry is the perfect circular roadway to explore Ireland’s rugged coastline. We’ll take many photo stops on the way to witness the waves wildly lashing against the rocky coast. It forms a truly magnificent image. In the evening after dinner, we’ll kick back in a local bar in Killarney with Irish beers and whisky. Overnight stay in Killarney.

Killarney - Connemara National Park

Today we’ll drive to our next destination, and en route, visit the Cliffs of Moher, the most striking cliffs in Ireland. After a short photo stop, we’ll continue on our way to Connemara National Park. We’ll stay overnight in a mansion-style hotel by Killary Fjord.

Connemara National Park

Today we’ll have a laid-back time here visiting cafes and shops to buy local products. We’ll have lunch in a town called Letterfrack and then have free time to explore the neighbourhood.

Connemara - County Donegal

Ireland is divided into counties and today we’ll head to one of the best ones - County Donegal. It’s the northernmost and on our way there we’ll have a lunch stop in Sligo and drive to Glencar waterfall. We will also pass by Benbulben, a 500 meters limestone mountain that was shaped by ice age glaciers making it look like a table mountain springing up from the landscape. Dinner and overnight stay in Donegal.

Donegal - Portrush

Early in the morning, we’ll have a countryside breakfast and then climb up the Slieve League, for an unparallel view of Donegal’s majestic coast. Later, we’ll drive through Glenveagh National Park. We will then enter North Ireland and drive to Portrush, to check in to our hotel for an overnight stay.

The Giants Causeway is a wonder of this region and the 40,000 interlocking basalt columns are best visited early in the morning. Later, we will drive past the Dunluce Castle, a rundown castle, set idyllically on a cliff overlooking the Atlantic. In the afternoon, visit the Bushmills Distillery after lunch and sip some Irish Whiskey in its restaurant. Dinner and overnight stay in Portrush.

Portrush - Dublin

This is our final day on the road, we’ll stick to the coast for an hour and visit Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge. This is a hanging bridge and depending on your physical ability you can either just take photos or walk the bridge. Later, the road will take us inland from the coast and into the Nine Glens (valleys) of Antrim, the prettiest in the entire U.K. En route we will visit County Antrim for its dramatic views and gorgeous terrain. Our journey will continue to Dublin, where we will take a guided tour and check into the hotel after dinner.

Dublin to Mumbai

After an early breakfast, we will proceed to the airport for your flight back home.

Scotland is beautiful and through this itinerary, we only explore the beauty of the highlands and the lakes. The coastal beauty we believe is more raw in Ireland where we drive on the Wild Atlantic Way.

The Wild Atlantic way is an 800 + km route parallel to the Atlantic Ocean on the West and Northern Coast of Ireland. The roads are narrow and are often combined with dramatic scenery of rugged cliffs and non-touristy farmlands.

Yes, those who enjoy the whiskey would appreciate the little details of this tour. However, those who enjoy nature would love this itinerary as well.

It would need some form of physical fitness to do this tour. We stop at photogenic locales and then take a small hike to explore more of nature. You won’t be able to enjoy the land to the fullest if not fit.

Yes, this can be done. Please speak to our office. We have limited seats for this kind of arrangement.

During the ascent to the throne Queen Victoria in the year 1837, she was the one who became the first monarch to reside in Buckingham Palace; unfortunately, her father, King William IV, had died before it was completed and couldn’t see the finished architecture. Starting at the time of 10:45 a.m., the King’s Guard is changed in front of Buckingham Palace every 45 minutes. To obtain the finest view of the same you should get there early. From 10:00 am, soldiers congregate at St. James’ Palace and Wellington Barracks before marching to Buckingham Palace while being accompanied by music.

Known to be the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world, Windsor Castle has been the family home of the British kings and queens for about a 1000 years. With room for roughly 150 staff, it serves as Her Majesty the Queen’s official home and continues to be a working royal palace today.

Edinburgh Castle is known to be Europe’s oldest fortified sites. Its lengthy, intricate past as a castle, prison, royal residence, and military outpost is rife with exciting legends. As you make your way up the Castle Hill, you’ll walk in the footsteps of soldiers, kings, queens, and perhaps even pirates.

For many years, the castle stood watch over the River Fourth’s lowest point from atop a volcanic rock. It is still a powerful representation of Scottish independence and pride in the country today.

Finding Unexpected Joy on an Organized Day Tour Across Scotland

By Vicki Denig

I’ll never forget staring into the deep, black waters of Loch Ness. The darkness of the lake beautifully highlighted the fat, white snowflakes falling from puffy, gray skies above. This, I remember thinking, was the untouched natural beauty of Scotland that so many of my travel writer friends had raved about. It was one of the most breathtaking winter scenes I’d experienced in my life—and I would never have found myself there if it weren’t for an organized day tour.

This past winter, in lieu of exchanging Christmas gifts, my partner and I decided to venture over to Scotland for a four-day weekend. The whisky-soaked mecca of Islay has long been a bucket-list destination for me, a writer focusing on wine and spirits—but venturing all the way to the remote island would have taken up too much of our long January weekend. To get our fill of belly-warming whisky in a string of cozy pubs and hotel bars, stopping in Edinburgh was a no-brainer. While I was also charmed by the idea of Glasgow’s edginess and its abundance of accessible distilleries, I still yearned for a way to see the more rural parts of Scotland in our short time there.

The Scottish capital artfully balances the very old with the new and exciting.

Beyond the main monuments and city-based distilleries suggested, my internet searches left us with dozens of day tour recommendations through the Scottish Highlands . In my mind, organized day tours were bound to be filled with the kind of tourist traps I’d avoided most of my adult life, not to mention plenty of the selfie-stick wielding travelers I dreaded. I almost turned the other way, but the idea of dramatic, mountainous terrain only surpassed by rolling green hills studded with medieval castles and plenty of long-haired cows made me willing to take the chance.

“What do you think of an 11-hour tour through the Scottish Highlands?” I asked my partner in the living room of my Manhattan apartment. “Sounds incredible,” he responded. I began to mentally weigh the cons: potentially corny stops, a voluble guide—or worse still, strange travel companions. But there were also solid pros: Fitting in the natural beauty we would otherwise miss, without having to organize, plan, or think about anything along the way.

As a Type A traveler, I was already overplanning Edinburgh, exhausting myself over how many of the 19 industry-approved cocktail bars we’d be able to fit into 48 hours. The idea of enjoying a stress-free day of sightseeing without having to plan a thing? Very appealing. The cherry on the top was the £57 per person pirice tag. With a click of a button and for the price of a few drinks, we were booked to hit Glencoe, Loch Ness, and the Highlands—all in a single day.

Canoeing through the beautiful Caledonian Canal near Fort William

Less than 24 hours after arriving in Glasgow, we awoke at an ungodly hour to head over to the central bus station and start the day. We trudged through dark, dead-empty streets to eventually be greeted by a cheery—but not overly peppy, I noted—guide, and five other travelers. The white sprinter van had the company’s name, Rabbie’s, sprawled across the side in blue lettering. We climbed in along with a couple in their 40s, their two teenage daughters, and an Australian woman traveling solo .

“Looks like there’s just seven of us today!” the guide exclaimed. My partner and I seized the opportunity to take over two full rows in the back, leaving the family to occupy the center of the van and the solo traveler to hold down the fort in front with the guide, who doubled as our driver. Our fearless leader started the van and gave us all some time to settle in, turning on some music instead. The day was off to a good start.

Our route took us from the vast wilderness of Rannoch Moor to the breathtaking landscapes of Gelncoe , followed by the massive fault line of Great Glen. The van weaved through the mountainous Highlands, glassy lakes, and frosty hillsides. As I leaned against the window, I took in the sight of snow-dusted hills, many of which had turned from their summery emerald green to a rusty orange. The sun tried its best to peek through, although the weather remained a signature gray.

After spending the morning traversing through hillsides, we made it to the quaint town of Fort Augustus, home to just 650 people (as well as beautiful boat-bobbing views along the Caledonian Canal). Our group disembarked and hopped on an hour-long boat cruise on Loch Ness. At this point, we were just over halfway through the day—and more than 140 miles from Glasgow. From gazing upon the famed Three Sisters of Glencoe to snaking our way back home through the Grampian Mountains, our knowledge of Scotland’s geography and history was growing with each stop.

For me, the best part of the Highlands day tour was simply the act of slowing down from our packed city itinerary and surrendering to the natural beauty around us—something not nearly as achievable, if even possible, in the bustle of Edinburgh and Glasgow. The simple act of looking out a window and letting go offered tranquility I hadn’t experienced in longer than I could remember.

I also genuinely appreciated all the down time provided by our tour guide. This offered mental reprieve from all of the new information we were learning—but also enabled the socializing. We were given solo opportunities to explore most of the destinations at our own pace. For my partner and I, this meant eating fish and chips for lunch at a traditional pub, as well as tasting some local whiskies at a cozy hotel bar by ourselves.

By the end of the tour, we’d traversed well over 250 miles through the heart of Scotland. I thought about my initial hesitation about giving into such the activity; my preconceived notions of day tours had been proven completely wrong. In fact, it's quite cool to place your trust in the hands of a knowledgeable guide, and pretty adventurous to surrender to a group of strangers—embarking on a journey into the unknown together. Sure, some of the stops were a bit kitschy, and a few selfie sticks will almost certainly always be present on group trips these days, but the long-lasting memories of journeying into the vastness of a place offer far bigger payoff.

In addition to the unforgettable views we saw, the relief of not agonizing over every last planning detail was a vacation in itself. It was official: I was unexpectedly converted by the merits of an organized day tour.

The following day, we left Glasgow behind and set off to Edinburgh—and the first thing we booked was a Big Bus tour. I boarded it excited and expectant, with eyes wide open and my curious, exploratory spirit intact.

How This Thai Resort Hopes to Attract Indian Travelers – India Report

Bulbul Dhawan , Skift

May 13th, 2024 at 11:00 PM EDT

Even as Thailand is a popular travel destination among Indians, most places beyond Bangkok and Phuket remain unexplored. Smaller resorts and businesses now seem to be trying to attract Indian tourists.

Bulbul Dhawan

The Skift India Newsletter is your go-to platform for all news related to travel, tourism, airlines, and hospitality in India.

In theory, Pimalai Resort and Spa in Thailand’s Krabi province checks all the boxes for Indian tourists. But the majority of the travelers limit their visit to Bangkok and Phuket, owner Charintip Tiyaphorn told Skift.

She wants to change that and was in India last week to better understand the market. Thailand is expecting to bring in 1.7 million Indian tourists this year and has also extended the visa waiver for Indian passport holders . In 2023, India was the fourth-largest source market for Thailand.

“India is among the top five source markets for Thailand in 2024, and in April alone, 200,000 Indians visited Thailand,” Tiyaphorn said. “Even if they visit Krabi, they don’t come to Pimalai, because it is not known.”

For India, Thailand is among the top travel destinations. Bangkok consistently ranks among the most favored destinations for international travel among Indians. A Skyscanner survey released in December last year stated that Bangkok was the second most popular international destination for Indians in 2023.

A study on the Holi and Easter getaways among Indians by Booking.com placed Bangkok as the third most-searched international tourist spot. Agoda studies have also revealed that Thailand is the most preferred destination for slow travel as well as affordable travel among Indians.

According to Tiyaphorn, India is a potential market, but lack of communication as well as inconvenience due to lack of direct flights to Krabi are causing the island district of Ko Lanta to miss out on this group of travelers.

The Pimalai resort covers nearly the entire beachline of the island, making it almost a private beach. It is also lesser known and is a sustainable family-owned standalone resort – in line with Indian travelers’ leaning towards sustainability and unique stays.

The owner said that after Covid, the resort did not reach out to Indian travelers as much. Additionally, after flights resumed, most of them connected to Phuket and Bangkok.

“Indians are coming on shorter trips, so they do not extend it to different destinations and pick either Phuket or Bangkok for their visits. But I think this trend will change. Indians frequently travel to Thailand and have been to Bangkok and Phuket multiple times and now want to go somewhere else. So we are looking at those repeat visitors,” she explained.

The services of Tata group-owned low cost airline Air India Express are expected to stabilize by Tuesday. On Thursday, Air India Express had canceled over 80 flights as its cabin crew was on mass sick leaves. All such crew members have resumed duty, media reports said .

It had also decided to cancel 40 flights daily until May 13 due to the operational issues posed by the cabin crew’s protests. The crew was reportedly protesting against mismanagement, human resource issues, and changes in compensation structure.

However, the protest was withdrawn by the crew on Thursday after the airline agreed to look into the matter.
