Maple Sugar Rush In Waterloo Region

sugar bush tours waterloo region

How excited was I when I received an invite to go on a press trip to my hometown? No, seriously! Like many people who live there, I rarely get a chance to actually explore Waterloo Region; most of my time is spent visiting relatives and friends. So, when Waterloo Region invited me and some other Toronto bloggers to visit St. Jacobs, Kitchener and Cambridge, I immediately jumped on board! And I’m so glad I did. The region has so much to offer: from maple sugar bush tours and the Chicopee Tube Park to St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market and the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory – there really is something for everyone. Here are the highlights from our trip:

1. St. Jacobs Horse Drawn Tours : the words “sugar bush” alone excite me! I vividly remember going on a tour when I was in elementary school so I was thrilled to relive the experience as an adult. Nathan, a Mennonite from the region and the man guiding our sleigh ride, was so passionate and knowledgeable about the sugar bush (for those unfamiliar: that’s the forested area where trees get tapped for sap which eventually gets boiled down to make delicious maple syrup). It was a cold day, but we all bundled up and went for a sleigh ride led by our beautiful horses, Duke and Mikki, followed by some hot apple cider and maple taffy by the fire. Pure magic.

2.  St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market :  I’m a huge fan of farmers’ markets and have been going to St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market for as long as I can remember. So when news broke out of the big fire on Labour Day I was heartbroken. I’m so glad to see the resilient vendors are still able to do business in the temporary Harvest Barn and can’t wait to revisit the market when it reopens.

4.  Chicopee Tube Park :  Having lived around the corner from Chicopee when I was young, I was really excited to check out the new tube park on the hill. The park is well-groomed, has friendly staff and is a great place to spend the day with the family. For adults, I’d recommend the visiting the the tube park at night (they’re open until midnight on Saturdays). You can also grab a drink or two at the Ranger Lounge  as part of the festivities. Oh, and there’s a lift if you don’t feel like trekking it up the hill each time.

5.  Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory :  After all the winter fun, it felt incredibly nice to thaw inside the balmy conservatory. Think of it as a mini escape to Costa Rica or the Philippines (that’s where their butterflies and moths come from). With over 2000 free-flying tropical butterflies year round, the conservatory is a nature lover’s (and photographer’s) dream. Where else can you watch a Rice Paper Butterfly feed on nectar and play with a Malaysian Jungle Nymph? Oh, and the Paradise Garden Cafe  serves up some great local fare!

This press trip was an eyeopening experience for me. I must admit, I had very little knowledge about all the great attractions in my own hometown, but I’m incredibly impressed and ready to discover more of Waterloo Region! And since it’s only an hour’s drive from Toronto, it makes for the perfect weekend getaway. I really hope you head out to the region and explore! Here’s some information to help you plan your trip:

  • We stayed at the newly renovated  Four Points by Sheraton  hotel located right across from Conestoga Mall. The hotel has a heated indoor pool, free internet access and clean, spacious rooms.

  • While in the village of St. Jacobs, make sure you also check out Farm Pantry , The Mennonite Story , the Maple Syrup Museum and Block Three Brewing Co .

  • If you’re looking for a place to dine in St. Jacobs,  Jacob’s Grill  serves up some tasty food. Their fish and chips remind me of the ones I had in Brighton!

  • Oh and try to squeeze in a few hours at the  Waterloo Region Museum . It’s the largest community museum in Ontario and has some really knowledgeable staff who can guide you through the region’s history. They also host many special exhibits: from now until April 30th you can see  SHIPWRECK! Pirates and Treasure .

Maple Syrup Season in Ontario: A Guide to the Best Events, Festivals and Activities

Maple syrup season is upon us in Ontario and an early one at that! Not to get sappy, but we’re totally obsessed! Discover the best spots in Ontario for sugarbush tours, maple activities, meals, events and more.

All the Best Ways to Experience Maple Season in Ontario

Read on for our list of top ways to enjoy maple syrup season in Ontario this spring.

Go for a Road Trip Along the Muskoka Maple Trail

muskoka maple trail maple espresso ipa and maple taffy on snow

The Muskoka Maple Trail runs from March 8th-April 26th, 2024 and is made up of stops across Muskoka offering up something fun and delicious this season! Think restaurants using local syrup on their menu (maple back ribs, anyone?), breweries getting creative with drinks like a Maple Espresso IPA and some hands on activities too!

From roasting your own marshmallows in the woods while drinking maple hot chocolate to touring a sugar bush and more, there is so much to discover. A major highlight this year is visiting Sugarbush Hill Maple Farm for a behind-the-scenes look at their maple operation.

No visit is complete without trying a Maple Creemee – a mix of pure maple syrup and vanilla soft serve dairy mix in a cone or cup. This is the believed to be the only spot to get it in all of Ontario so don’t miss out!

It all comes together in a very sweet way with the Muskoka Maple Festival on April 27th, 2024 in downtown Hunstville!

Tap into Maple Season in Perth County

man standing in the sugar bush at Hoover's Maple Farm

Perth County is home to not one but two excellent maple syrup producers: Hoover’s and McCully’s Hill Farm.

At Hoover’s, tour the sugar bush with Terry – a maple extraordinaire who is ready to answer all of your questions. See their state of the art facility, walk through the sugar bush and of course, shop for some of that mapley goodness. You can book your tours now online.

Less than an hour away, McCully’s Hill Farm welcomes families each spring to experience their farm on weekends. Sugarbush tours, horse-drawn wagon rides and pancake brunches abound! Keep up with the scoop on their website .

Family Maple Fun in Ontario’s Southwest

The communities of Ontario’s Southwest are rolling out the sappy carpet for families!

Hayes sugar bush tour

Over in Oxford County – you’ve got options. Enjoy a guided tour of the sugar bush with Hayes’ Maple Syrup alongside breakfast all topped with the maple syrup including pancakes, sausage, eggs AND their signature crepes- yum!

Want a small-town feel? Jakeman’s Maple Farm teams up with the local 4H club each year to host their signature pancake breakfast in their historic store in Beachville- the town’s old post office.

Finally, kids and adults alike will fall head over heels for the family fun at McCully’s Hill Farm filled with barn animals, wagon rides and pancakes galore.

Over in Elgin County , things are just as sweet! At Springwater Forest , they invite you to tap into nature. Wellington County Maple Activities

Wellington County is filled to the BRIM of the bucket with maple season celebrations!

heartwood farm and cidery grid, sap water in a mug on the left and cider on the right

You’ll gather around the wood-fired evaporator in the open-air sugar shack and enjoy some sap right off the evaporator. It’s completely sweet and delicious! Afterwards, forest bathe among the maples, try some aritsanal ciders and of course take some home. We LOVE their Forest Garden Cider which features their own maple syrup!

Want to try some authentic maple taffy? Enjoy it poured over snow and rolled at Elliott Tree Farm. Don’t miss out on the sugar bush tour and demo either before grabbing some syrup to go! Snyder Heritage Farms in Breslau is also serving up a unique maple celebration, highlighting the sustainable practices they’re using on their fifth generation farm.

With so much happening in Wellington, we can’t possibly name it all! Check out this link for the full scoop.

Heart of Ontario: Sip Fire Cider at West Avenue Cider

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by West Avenue Cider (@westavenuecider)

Have you heard of fire cider? Created in Québec originally, it’s a smoky-syrupy cider not too dissimilar to ice wine or ice cider. It’s made in a maple syrup evaporator once a year- generally when a cidery’s neighbouring syrup farm is taking a brief slice of downtime during syrup season.

This spring, the Feast On® certified folks at West Avenue Cider in Flamborough have made a batch and experimented by aging them in cognan and bourbon barrels! You can try some at their annual Maple Taps Festival on April 12 and 13th, 2024!

The 2024 Warkworth Maple Syrup Festival

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Warkworth Maple Syrup Festival (@warkworthmaplesyrupfest)

On March 9th and 10th, 2024, celebrate the running of the sap in the small town of Warkworth ! They go all out folks. It’s bound to be a very sweet weekend. You can even score yourself some pretty sweet Warkworth Maple Festival merch.

Visit Ontario’s Maple Capital in Lanark County then Keep Exploring Ontario’s Highlands

maple chocolates from lanark county

Did you know Lanark County is known as Ontario’s Maple Capital? It’s no wonder why! With a mix of producers of excellent maple syrup and the heritage to back it up, you don’t want to miss out on your visit this spring.

Located where the Canadian Shield meets the Limestone Plains, the combo of minerals here give a unique terroir to the area that is especially good for crafty hit-the-spot maple syrup.

From joining in on the Festival of the Maples and the Maple Run Tour which invites visitors to shop artisan crafts and pieces as well as indulge in some syrup, there are plenty of ways to join in on the revelry.

With over 200 maple syrup producers in the area, there are plenty of ways to indulge in the sappy goodness this spring! Read more about Lanark County’s tie to maple syrup.

Of course, Lanark County isn’t the only part of Ontario’s Highlands that celebrates maple season! In fact, the folks at Ontario Highlands’ tourism have put together some great ideas to take it all in. Whether you want to spring into maple with this 5-day, 4-night maple themed itinerary near Ottawa, find the best pancake breakfas t in the region or do some sugarbush hopping close to Toronto- there’s trip for you! With so many ideas for sweet escapes and new ways to enjoy maple (in bourbon, at the spa or on bacon, anyone?)- the possibilities are basically endless.

Maple Weekend – April 6 & 7, 2024

On April 6-7  this year, maple syrup producers  allllllll across the province are opening their doors and getting extra sweet. Run by the Maple Syrup Producers Association, this event invites people to experience the joy of maple season close to home (or far away…basically wherever they can in the province).

Maple syrup producers across the province open their doors this weekend to offer sugar bush tours, maple taffy on snow, samples and so much more. Find a maple syrup producer near (or far from) you and get planning!

Get Mapley in Essex County!

little kids eating maple taffy from a snow table

In Essex County, Essex Region Conservation Authority is hosting a Maple Festival over the course of three weekends! It will take place at two sites and a Maple Trail connects the two of them. How wonderfully delicious is that?

The fun doesn’t stop there so be sure to check out their website for all the sticky details !

Indulge in Sweet Maple Goodness in Waterloo Region

There are multiple ways to take in maple season in Waterloo Region.

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Langdon Hall Hotel & Spa (@langdonhall)

One of our favourite options? Join the folks at Langdon Hall, a Feast On® certified Relais and Chateaux property for their maple harvest experience ! You’ll be joined by their head gardener, Jeremy Gehl, who will walk you to Langdon’s fire pit to take you through the sap collection and evaporation process to explain how syrup is made. You’ll get the chance to taste sap and ask any questions you may have.

Afterwards, head to Langdon’s demonstration kitchen for a cooking demo using maple syrup and top it all off with a three-course lunch prepared by the Langdon team in the main dining room. Not a morning person? Flip that order on its head and join an afternoon maple experience.

Another option? Check out the St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market Maple Trail on market days in March! You’ll discover artisan producers creating delicious maple treats across the markets and meet some pretty cool people along the way.

Elmira rolls out the sticky-sweet carpet this time of year as well. This year, celebrate the town’s 60th anniversary (!!) of the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival on April 6th. You can take in syrup demos, indulge in pancakes topped with syrup and loads of family fun activities.

Keep the party going that day by heading over to Elmira’s Rural Roots Brewing for Shticky Fest 2024 ! There will be live music starting at nine and they’ll be releasing their highly anticipated Shticky Ale using Elmira Maple Syrup. How delish!

Maple Sugar Bush Tour

If you want to learn about how maple syrup is produced and ride through a sugar bush on a sleigh then this tour is for you! Nathan, a Mennonite from the region and the man guiding our sleigh ride, was so passionate and knowledgeable about the sugar bush. We took the tour on a really cold day, but we all bundled up and went for a sleigh ride through the winter wonderland led by our beautiful horses, Duke and Mikki, followed by some hot apple cider and maple taffy by the fire. I took one of these tours as part of a work trip and was worried that it might be a shallow and cliched tour. It wasn't at all. The tour can take about 20 people and our group was a mix of international visitors and local children. Bob, the tour guide, did a great job of answering all of our questions and keeping the kids engaged. The tour lasts about an hour and half and heads out to a nearby Old Order Menonite farm. The tour focusses on explaining the history and current experiences of the Menonites, goes into the Maple Forest and into the facility in which the syrup is made. There's an opportunity to buy syrup and other local produce (apples, pears etc) from the farm. The guide was very knowledgeable and was happy to carry on discussing things after the tour had finished. If you have some time and want to get a feel for the local area at a restful pace, then I'd thoroughly recommend this tour.

Snyder Acres is a 5th generation family-run farm who prides themselves on their honest farm custom work and their delicious maple syrup.

Maple Tap Farm started in 1969 with Wally Sallans, who at the age of 13 started making maple syrup with his grandfather. He started with a few pails and continued adding to the operation gradually over the years, growing it to almost 4000 taps, at the time of his passing last year.

The Maple Syrup tradition is continued on by Wally’s son, Andrew and daughter in law, Jennifer.

Come dressed for the weather.

While there may be some mud in the bush, it’s more important to dress for warmth at this time of year.  Wear warm boots and clothing on cold, windy days so you will enjoy your time outside 🙂

Please Note:

The Trail in our sugar bush is not easily wheelchair accessible, therefore individuals and their support person are eligible for half price admission for the wagon ride to the bush (we have a wheelchair lift on our wagon). This policy does not necessarily apply to community group visits to the farm that are tailored to the needs of individuals within the group.

Kingston and prince edward county, muskoka and haliburton highlands, algoma country, york, durham and headwaters , kawarthas and northumberland, orillia and lake country, stratford, st. jacobs and elmira, norfolk, haldimand and oxford counties, windsor and essex region, greater toronto area (gta), more syrup producers and events, on this page, celebrate maple syrup season in ontario.

Celebrate Ontario’s sweetest season at maple syrup farms and festivals.

Each year as winter recedes, the changing climate brings warmer days and frosty nights. This causes sap in sugar maple trees to flow up from the roots, and maple harvesting to kick into high gear.

During this short, but eagerly anticipated sweet season, guests flock to sugar bushes (maple tree forests) and sugar shacks to witness the tree-tapping and boiling process of converting sap to syrup.

Pancake houses pop up and kids are treated to maple taffy. Family-friendly, maple-themed events and festivals follow.

And maple syrup is just the start. This versatile flavour is used in so much, from beer and wine to tea and coffee. It’s infused in spreads, jams, butter, butter tarts, donuts, bacon and even maple bacon donuts.

And it’s not just maple trees. Birch trees can also be tapped for sap to make birch syrup. Birch season occurs just after maple syrup season in late April to early May. Birch syrup is not quite as sweet as maple syrup, so it’s a tasty ingredient in barbeque sauces and marinades.

During the first weekend in April, Ontario Maple Weekend features two full days of activities at participating sugarbushes across Ontario.

Find more places to sample and experience everything maple in Ontario. Don't miss out, time is limited on this tasty season.

The knowledge and use of sweet sugar maple sap originated with the Indigenous Peoples of the Eastern Woodlands who valued it for centuries. In and around Ottawa, maple syrup production continues today. So much so that Lanark County, located within an hour’s drive southwest of Ottawa, is hailed as “Ontario’s Maple Syrup Capital”.

Explore the Waterloo Region

Back in my twenties, I spent a lot of time in the Waterloo Region as I dated my now husband. We spent many a weekend at the bars and restaurants or spending a lazy Sunday strolling the main street in St. Jacobs. We recently received an invitation to return to the area to see what they have to offer almost 14 years later! We were incredibly excited and couldn’t believe how many fun things there to do in the area now!

If you’ve never been, or it’s just been too long like us, plan a visit to the Waterloo Region and be sure to put these on your must-do list!

Maple Sugar Rush

Late Winter/Early Spring in Ontario is all about the Maple Syrup!! During our visit we weren’t able to take in the  Maple Sugar Bush Tours because unfortunately the weather was not yet warm enough for the sap to be running, but with our warmer temps now, it should be better.

You can take a horse-drawn sleigh ride, sip on hot beverages and savour pancakes smothered in maple syrup! While at the sugar bush you can also try: maple toffee on snow; Old fashioned log sawing, Farm Petting Zoo, Tapping a maple tree, Nature hike, Snow Shoeing. Tour runs every Saturday from March 1st to April 12th from 9:00am till 3:30pm and on March Break Monday to Saturday (March 10th – 15th) 9:00am till 3:30pm. Tours depart from the St Jacobs Farmers Market every 20-30 minutes. You are welcome to spend as much time at the sugar bush as you wish. No reservations are needed unless you plan on attending with a group of more than ten guests.

For extra insight, be sure to take in the  Maple Syrup Museum and the Mennonite Story as well.

St Jacobs

St. Jacobs Farmers Market and Outlets

I fondly remember shopping at the outlets all those years ago and was surprised to see that it still looks a lot the same. We were really impressed with the LEGO store  and took our time touring around to look at all the amazing LEGO structures on display! The life-sized Batman was amazing! Kids will love the play centre.

It isn’t a visit to St. Jacobs without a visit to the Farmer’s Market! You may have heard that the previous building burned down in a fire last year, but the vendors are up and running in a new building called the Harvest Barn . It had a different feel, but I loved the big open domed glass ceiling and fans, the delicious foods and flowers available! I’m looking forward to a trip back in the summertime to see it in its full glory!

St jacobs outlet mall

Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory

This is a great spot to visit in the cold of Winter, the Conservatory feels like an escape to the rain forest! With at least 2000 tropical butterflies and moths on site, there was no shortage of beauty to be found. In addition, the plants, birds and bugs are all part of the paradise. Yes, Bugs!! We were lucky enough to visit on the Family Day weekend when there was an incredible bug petting zoo available! I was pretty proud of myself for picking up all kinds of creepy crawlers including the enormous female stick bug!! Feeling extra adventurous?? Visit on March Break for the BugFeast!! Put your taste buds to the test and sample real insects like ants, mealworms and crickets! Are you brave enough to EAT A BUG???

Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory

Chicopee Tube Park

This was our first tubing experience and we weren’t sure what to expect! You could tell we were newbies by our willingness to walk up the hill on our first round! lol It’s steeper than it looks! Fortunately, they have a ‘magic carpet’ to pull you up the hill and we were quite happy to take that route the rest of the times! We had a blast flying and spinning down the hill on our tubes! I couldn’t believe how fast we would go! We visited late in the afternoon and it was already dark when we left, which was a great way to experience the park both in the daylight and at night. They are open until midnight on Saturdays! I wish this was open when we were younger, we would have had a blast here with a group of friends! Some things to note: riders must be at least 42 inches tall AND at least 4 years old to ride. Children are not permitted to ride on your lap, but you can ride at the same time and hold onto another tube. Up to 4 tubes were allowed down at once, which looked like a pretty fun tube party!

chicopee tube park

Great view from the top!

St. Jacobs Aberfoyle Model Railway

The model railway is new to St Jacobs and a real treat. We were blown away by the detail and love that went into this! It’s one of those things you could visit again and again and see something new every time. Speaking to the passionate volunteer staff we learned that the Aberfoyle Model Railway was headed for the trash, but when this location came up they went through the painstaking task of rebuilding the railway in St. Jacobs. The hours and hours that went into this is a labour of love. Every 40 minutes, day slowly turns to night and a whole new magical world lights up! We ended up staying to see it happen twice! Campfires light, welding sparks can be seen in the shop and all those dark windows in the houses and buildings light up, where you can see that they are not empty at all, they are each fully furnished! It’s really amazing! Small children will need to be lifted up to see but every age will enjoy the visit. In fact, quite a few older gentlemen were there running trains like kids during our visit.

B lock 3 Brewery

Block 3 is a brand new start up that opened it’s doors in September last year. What started out as a couple of dudes going out for a weekly beer, quickly turned into a beer club and then their very own micro brewery in St. Jacobs. We had Derek give us a tour of the space, which has some really cool design elements with the barn doors and mason jar lights over the bar. He walked us through the beer making process and gave us a couple of samples to try out. The beer is all brewed on site in small batches and they do sell out, so be sure to stop in on a regular basis to see what new flavours the boys have come up with.

Waterloo Region Museum

The museum building is gorgeous and a pleasure to visit at any time, but right now and through April is a perfect time to take the whole family in to see the  SHIPWRECK! Pirates & Treasure Exhibit!  The interactive exhibit is great fun to discover real pirate treasure (There is nearly 400 pounds of gold and silver treasures are on display in the Treasure Room) , shipwrecks and what it feels like to be in the midst of a hurricane! Be sure to visit over March Break and ask about the Pirate Birthday Party Packages , there was one on when we were there and the kids were having a blast!

waterloo region museum

There is so much to see and do in the Waterloo Region you are going to want to spend the night and make a weekend of it. The Holiday Inn Express & Suites is a great choice. It’s brand new with comfortable rooms and modern baths with a lovely complimentary breakfast in the morning. It’s perfectly located directly across from the St. Jacobs Outlets and beside the Farmer’s Market. Next door you can find  Jacks Family Restaurant , we ate inside the restaurant for lunch and also ordered some take out in the evening to enjoy in our room.

For more information on these and other great attractions in the Waterloo Region visit the Explore Waterloo Region Website .

All of the activities and accommodations were complementary and coordinated by Explore Waterloo Region. I was not compensated in any other manner. All opinions are my own and not influenced in any way.

Wow! There is a lot to do in that area! I must go back soon.

So much to do for the whole family! I was surprised to find so much for kids to enjoy in the region, I always thought of it more for adults. Though it makes a good couples getaway too!

Right in my backyard, we live about 5 60 seconds away from the museum, can’t wait to check out the shipwreck exhibit this week. Glad you had a great trip 🙂

The Shipwreck exhibit is really cool! Have you done the tubing yet? it was so fun!

I’ve always loved St Jacobs! Thanks for the tips, lots of great things to do! 🙂

It’s such a cute visit, isn’t it? I can’t wait to go back!

Wow Jen, it looks like a great place to go for a couples getaway, a family weekend or even a girls mini vacation. I love the variety of things to see and do – the maple syrup tapping is very interesting to me. Great post!

It’s been a long time since I’ve gone to a sugar bush, it would be great to visit one again!

That looks like such an amazing getaway! I especially love that you two went tubing; that must have been so much fun! And learning about maple sugar would be awesome, though eating it is even better! Lol

omg… You didn’t get scared holding that insects in your hand

lol I was pretty proud of myself! some of them really clung on to you!

everything looks fun but the bugs oohhh

Great pictures! I’ve never been. So many amazing things to check out. Thanks for sharing.

There is a lot more to do there than I had expected! Great place to visit!

I have not been to the Waterloo area in ages, which is too bad since I used to be so close by when I went to the University of Guelph. Looks like you had a great time! I should really book a weekend to get back and do some exploring.

You sound like us, it was really great to go back!

What a fantastic place to enjoy tons of fun for all ages. You looked like you enjoyed yourself Jen! I would never have thought about Waterloo being a vacation area, I always think University lol I know my hubby would love love love that model railway. Another place on my “Ontario” places to visit. Thanks this was a super review 🙂

Thanks Dawn, I agree Waterloo is a University city for sure, but the surrounding area has so much to offer!

Well I grew up in Guelph and went to university at university of Waterloo. I met my husband in Waterloo ( kitchener really and got married there too) I still go back often because my brother in law, sister in law and friends live there. It’s a great spot to spend time and the St Jacobs market is incredible. We went every Saturday for years. I especially loved doing that in the summer. The museum is a lot of fun. Also enjoyed Oktoberfest and bingemans.

oh right, Bingemans is a lot of fun, we used to spend time there too. I’ve never done Oktoberfest but my husband has!

Holy Moly! I have an Aunt and Uncle who live in Waterloo … I had NO IDEA there was so much to do as a family! Amazing. (But you won’t catch me touching all those bugs! :))

Tap into spring with a maple syrup festival

There are many maple syrup festivals in the province in March and early April including the Bronte Creek Maple Syrup Festival in Oakville, the Purple Woods Maple Syrup Festival in Oshawa, the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival and the weekend event of Sugar Shack TO at Sugar Beach in Toronto. North of the capital in both Woodbridge and Stouffville is the Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival , with demonstration and activities.

Pefferlaw Creek Farms in Uxbridge is run by four brothers. This year, starting March 4-5, the farm will have eight Maple Weekends . Private bookings are available during the week. Try a tapping and sugar shack tour, hiking and scrumptious pancakes.

Maple Town at Mountsberg Conservation Area northwest of Burlington has produced syrup for over 150 years. Visit the Sugar Shanty or take in a guided tour of the park with Conservation Halton.

A big two-day event for maple farmers and producers is the annual Ontario Maple Weekend , held this year from April 1-2. Organized by the Ontario Maple Syrup Producers Association it allows its members to show how syrup is made – look out for free samples and confections. Location dependent, enjoy pancake breakfasts and explore trails. The Association’s website has a handy map listing its Maple Weekend producers , from Mountain Maple Products on St Joseph Island in Northern Ontario to Wightman Sugar Bush in Lancaster in the east of the province.

Note that many of the farms and festivals require or recommend advance online ticket purchase.
