Billy Corgan

Smashing pumpkins, jennifer lopez says she'll 'barely' be able to walk in 2024 met gala look, trending on billboard.

“I grew up in a world where I needed to know bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Cure existed, it meant there was a place for people like me to hang out and belong,” Corgan said in a statement announcing the tour he hopes will remind fans of some of the classic alternative tours and festivals of the 1990s. “That’s what The World Is A Vampire is about. Bringing back that sense of community. If you don’t fit in, you belong here. It’s about having a shared experience and respecting others, but ultimately having fun. A true alternative festival, where all the self-proclaimed weirdos and outsiders of the world can get together and have a party.”

The Pumpkins’ driving, new wavey new single, “Spellbinding,” got its radio debut on Tuesday morning during Corgan’s appearance on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM radio show, during which the band also played “1979” and “Empires” live in the studio. The final act of the band’s three-part rock opera, ATUM , is slated for release on May 5.

When  The Smashing Pumpkins  first emerged out of Chicago in 1988, the world had never heard a band quite like them. They spun together rock, pop, shoe-gaze, metal, goth, psychedelia, and electronic into a kaleidoscope of saccharine melodies, fuzzy distortion, bombastic orchestration, incendiary fretwork, eloquent songcraft, and unshakable hooks. Upon their formation, their sound was different, iconoclastic, and wholly new—and it still is today. As a result, they’ve sold over 30 million albums worldwide and collected two GRAMMY® Awards, two MTV VMAs, and an American Music Award. Their catalog is highlighted by the platinum  Gish  [1991], the quadruple-platinum  Siamese Dream  [1993], diamond-certified  Mellon Collie  and the Infinite Sadness  [1995], platinum  Adore  [1998], and gold  Machina/The Machines of God  [2000]. In 2018, they embarked on one of their most successful tours ever, the  Shiny and Oh So Bright Tour , followed by  SHINY AND OH SO BRIGHT, VOL. 1 / LP: NO PAST. NO FUTURE. NO SUN.  Meanwhile, 2020 saw the release of the band’s eleventh full-length and latest double album,  CYR . As prolific as ever,  The Smashing Pumpkins  are currently working on new music. More details to come.

Under Corgan’s leadership, the NWA is reaching new heights in the sport and is growing an international fan base. Interpol

Interpol began in New York in 1997, when guitarist Daniel Kessler recruited bassist Carlos Dengler and singer/guitarist Paul Banks to form a band. In 2002, with Sam Fogarino on drums, the band signed to Matador records and released Turn On The Bright Lights, which made it to 10th position on NME’s list of 2002’s top releases and Pitchfork named it the year’s #1 album. Over the next two decades would go on to wide critical and commercial acclaim, with six subsequent high charting records on the Billboard 200; earning rave reviews across the map from Rolling Stone to TIME; performing on late night television shows including the Late Late show with David Letterman and Conan and playing major festivals like Coachella and Glastonbury and headlining Mexico’s Corona Capital. The band (Banks, Kessler and Fogarino) released their 7th album, “The Other Side Of Make-Believe”, in July 2022 to critical acclaim. MOJO called the album “quietly masterful”, Clash hailed it as “some of the boldest, most uncompromising work of their career”, and NME described it as “a confident, rewarding and subtly adventurous new chapter”. They’re touring across the globe in 2023.

Rival Sons

Rival Sons play rock ‘n’ roll in its purest form without apology or pretense. Instead, they simply plug in, turn up, and rip on a path of their own. Along the way, they’ve architected a critically acclaimed catalog, including Pressure & Time [2011], Head Down [2012], Great Western Valkyrie [2014], Hollow Bones [2016], and FERAL ROOTS [2019]. The latter represented a creative and critical high watermark, scoring a pair of GRAMMY® Award nominations in the categories of “Best Rock Album” and “Best Rock Performance” for the single “Too Bad.” Elevating the band to another level, “Do Your Worst” vaulted to #1 at Rock Radio as their biggest hit to date, tallying north of 60 million streams and counting. Speaking to their impact, Rolling Stone attested, “Rival Sons have done their part to introduce new fans to rock.” Beyond sharing stages with everyone from Black Sabbath, The Rolling Stones, and AC/DC to Guns N’ Roses and Lenny Kravitz, they’ve ignited television shows such as The Late Late Show with James Corden. During 2021, they launched their own label Sacred Tongue Recordings distributed by Thirty Tigers and celebrated the tenth anniversary of Pressure & Time by performing the album in its entirety on tour. Ultimately, Rival Sons aren’t here to tell you exactly what to think or what to feel, but they’ll give you one hell of a ride if you let them. That ride twists and turns like never before on their 2023 seventh full-length LP, DARKFIGHTER [Low Country Sound / Atlantic Records] kickstarted by the single “Nobody Wants to Die.” https://www.rivalsons.com

Stone Temple Pilots

With over 70 million albums sold, Stone Temple Pilots roared on to the scene in 1992 with their raucous debut, Core. A breakout success, the album peaked #3 on the Billboard 200 chart, and dominated radio waves with hits like “Sex Type Thing,” “Wicked Garden,” and the Grammy-Award winning smash single, “Plush.” STP quickly distinguished themselves as a band beholden to no trend. Boasting the inimitable riffs of guitarist Dean DeLeo, the propulsive rhythm section of bassist Robert DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz, and the charismatic baritone of frontman Scott Weiland, STP ruled airways, video playlists and charts alike over their legendary career. The band released their latest studio album, Perdida in 2020 with new lead singer, Jeff Gutt. Paste magazine described Perdida as the most sonically rich experience that Stone Temple Pilots have offered fans to date. www.stonetemplepilots.com

Upon their formation, their sound was different, iconoclastic, and wholly new-and it still is today. As a result, they've sold over 30 million albums worldwide and collected two GRAMMY® Awards, two MTV VMAs, and an American Music Award. Their catalog is highlighted by the platinum Gish [1991], the quadruple-platinum Siamese Dream [1993], diamond-certified Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness [1995], platinum Adore [1998], and gold Machina/The Machines of God [2000].

In 2018, they embarked on one of their most successful tours ever, the Shiny and Oh So Bright Tour, followed by SHINY AND OH SO BRIGHT, VOL. 1 / LP: NO PAST. NO FUTURE. NO SUN. Meanwhile, 2020 saw the release of the band's eleventh full-length and latest double album, CYR. As prolific as ever, The Smashing Pumpkins are currently working on new music. More details to come.

The Smashing Pumpkins put out ad on social media for new guitarist

By Adam Harrington

January 5, 2024 / 3:55 PM CST / CBS Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- You don't need pink ribbons scars that never forget.

You don't need to go down where the crickets learn to sing and play.

You don't need to be cool and cold, like old Job.

You don't need to care to shake these zipper blues.

You especially don't need to notice that this is not the first time we've done this with Smashing Pumpkins lyrics.

But you do need to know how to play guitar – if you want perhaps to play the songs from which those lyrics are paraphrased, right along with Billy Corgan, James Iha, and Jimmy Chamberlin.

That's right, the Smashing Pumpkins announced Friday that they are looking for an additional guitarist. Guitarist Jeff Schroeder left the band in October after 16 years.

The band posted a message on Instagram saying the application process for a guitarist is "open to anyone who might be interested."

Applicants are asked to submit a résumé and related materials to [email protected] .

Corgan and Iha are also both guitarists. They first formed the Smashing Pumpkins along with drummer Chamberlin and bass player D'arcy Wretzky. Other members have come and gone over the years – and the group disbanded altogether in 2000, only to re-form six years later.

While Corgan – a Highland Park resident - has been the only constant, original members Iha and Chamberlin have been back since 2018. Jack Bates and Katie Cole play bass and keyboards, respectively, on tour with the group.

2023 BottleRock Napa Valley

The Smashing Pumpkins are going on tour this summer – beginning with the World Is a Vampire tour through Europe in June and July. The tour will begin in Birmingham, England, and end in Athens, Greece, and will also feature Weezer.

The Smashing Pumpkins will also be a supporting act on Green Day's The Saviors tour through the U.S. and Canada, along with Rancid and The Linda Lindas. This tour – in late July and August – will include a stop at Wrigley Field on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Whether the new guitarist – whoever he, she, or they may be – will be asked to be part of those tours was not specified in the social media job ad.

Smashing Pumpkins Reveal Kiki Wong as Their New Guitarist After Nationwide Search

By Daniel Kreps

Daniel Kreps

After receiving over 10,000 applications in their nationwide search for a new guitarist , the Smashing Pumpkins revealed Friday the newest member of their band: Social media-famous guitarist Kiki Wong .

In January, the Pumpkins announced an open audition to fill the vacancy left by departing guitarist Jeff Schroeder, who had a 16-year tenure with Billy Corgan and company. Just two weeks later, the band said they received so many applications that it required “eight people working full-time to review each and every one.”

“Reviewing the work of these incredible musicians was a herculean, albeit worthy effort. First off, I really want to thank everyone who submitted materials for consideration,” Corgan said in a statement Friday.

Wong added, “It’s been an absolute wild ride, but I am beyond honored and humbled to be chosen to perform alongside some of rock’s greatest and most influential musicians of all time. I never thought little ole 15-year-old me playing metal guitar in my bedroom would amount to this moment. It goes to show hard work and perseverance truly pays off if you’re willing to push through the tough stuff, so never lose hope out there.”

Wong will likely make her debut with the band this summer as the Pumpkins — whose touring lineup is now Corgan, Wong, founding members James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin, keyboardist Katie Cole, and bassist Jack Bates, son of Joy Division/New Order’s Peter Hook — embark on a lengthy stretch of live dates that begins with a European tour with Weezer on June 7 in Birmingham, England. In late July, they’ll  return to North America for the Saviors stadium tour  alongside Green Day, Rancid, and the Linda Lindas.

“I never thought little ol’ 15-year-old me playing metal guitar in my bedroom would amount to this moment”: Smashing Pumpkins name social media shredder Kiki Wong as new guitarist after 10,000 applications

The popular Instagram guitarist will tour the world with the alt-rock legends from June 2024

Smashing Pumpkins and Kiki Wong

At the beginning of 2024, the Smashing Pumpkins damn-near broke the internet when they announced a worldwide open audition for an additional guitarist to replace the outgoing Jeff Schroeder , resulting in 10,000-plus applications ( this writer included ). Today, the alt-rock icons announced their new touring guitarist: Kiki Wong.

Wong is one of Instagram’s foremost shredders, with 674k followers to her name. She has performed with Taylor Swift, Usher and Bret Michaels, along with notable rock bands including Nylon Pink, Hellfire Heart, and currently, Vigil of War.

Along with a pool of finalists, chosen by frontman Billy Corgan, she auditioned in-person for the touring guitarist spot last month in Los Angeles, and ultimately won out.

Unlike Schroeder, who she replaces, Wong is being billed strictly as an “additional touring guitarist”, rather than a fulltime member of the band. She joins the core SP lineup of guitarist/frontman Corgan, guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, and the live lineup of Jack Bates ( bass ) and Katie Cole (guitar, keys, vocals).

“Reviewing the work of these incredible musicians was a herculean, albeit worthy effort,” said Corgan. “First off, I really want to thank everyone who submitted materials for consideration. It wasn’t an easy decision with how much great guitar playing we were lucky enough to hear and see over the past few months.

“I was a fan of Kiki’s before she submitted her name to be considered – and it’s great that someone of her acumen will be part of our touring family. I can’t wait to hit the road with Kiki as part of our mad circus. It’s definitely an exciting moment for The Smashing Pumpkins to be this busy with touring in 2024. We’ll see you all this summer!”

“It’s been an absolute wild ride, but I am beyond honored and humbled to be chosen to perform alongside some of rock's greatest and most influential musicians of all time,” said lifetime Pumpkins fan Wong.

“I never thought little ol’ 15-year-old me playing metal guitar in my bedroom would amount to this moment. It goes to show hard work and perseverance truly pays off if you’re willing to push through the tough stuff, so never lose hope out there. I am so grateful for this opportunity and can't wait to share the stage with the legendary Smashing Pumpkins!”

Wong’s first show with the band will be at Birmingham Utilita Arena on June 7 during their co-headline tour with Weezer.

The guitarist relayed her guitar journey so far to Guitar World last year , particularly the influence of heavier styles.

“I remember the first time I got into metal,” she recalled. “My brother is 20 months older than me and has always been one of my biggest role models. When I was 12, he showed me Metallica, and I was in awe of Master of Puppets . I hadn't heard anything like it before, and it completely rewired my mind. I knew I had to learn it, but let's just say it took a few more years to get it right [laughs].”

**w/ Stone Temple Pilots

^^ w/ Interpol

History will be made as the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), owned by Smashing Pumpkins front man  Billy Corgan , will be sending some of its biggest stars and Champions to compete at most of the festival locations. Originally founded in 1948, the NWA has been a cornerstone of professional wrestling on a global scale for generations as a promotion and a governing body. Under Corgan’s leadership, the NWA is reaching new heights in the sport and is growing an international fan base. Featured talents include NWA Women’s World Champion Kamille, NWA World Tag Team Champions Bestia 666 & Mecha Wolf, NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion Kerry Morton, Trevor Murdoch, Natalia Markova, Chris Adonis, Thom Latimer, EC3, Thrillbilly Silas Mason, Odinson, Mercurio, Kenzie Paige, Missa Kate, and many more. Be a part of the action as NWA titles and reputations will be on the line in this unique concert environment unlike any other.  https://www.nationalwrestlingalliance.com

CHICAGO – The Smashing Pumpkins, a veteran alternative rock band that has performed for more than three decades, has selected a muscian and online content creator to be its next guitarist.

Kiki Wong was one of 10,000 guitarists who applied for the job as part of a public casting call. The band announced in January it was seeking a new guitarist with the departure of Jeff Schroeder, who had played with Smashing Pumpkins for 16 years.

“The news you have been waiting for has finally arrived,” the band announced on Instagram . “SP is excited to officially welcome highly-skilled veteran guitarist Kiki Wong. Kiki joins the band’s touring lineup of Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin, and James Iha, along with mainstays Jack Bates and Katie Cole.”

Smashing Pumpkins formed in 1988 in Chicago. The band broke up in 2000, but re-formed six years later. The band has tour dates scheduled for this summer in the United States and Europe with Green Day and with Weezer.

Where to get tickets now: SeatGeek , VividSeats , StubHub , TicketCity and Ticketmaster .

Wong , 35, is a Chinese and Korean American who is a social media influencer. Her TikTok account, Kiki: Daily Metal Guitar Riffs , has more than 1.3 million followers. More than 700,000 people follow her on Instagram.

“Well, cat’s out of the bag! I am officially the new guitarist for the @smashingpumpkins 🙏❤️ I am beyond honored and excited to be a part of this new journey with such an incredible and legendary group of musicians. It’s going to be a wild ride! " she said in an Instagram post . “I never thought little ole 15-year-old me playing metal guitar in my bedroom would amount to this moment. It goes to show hard work and perseverance truly pays off if you’re willing to push through the tough stuff, so never lose hope out there.”

Smashing Pumpkins lead singer Billy Corgan said in an Instagram announcement the band was lucky that so many great guitarists had sought to join the band. “I was a fan of Kiki’s before she submitted her name to be considered — and it’s great that someone of her acumen will be part of our touring family.”
