Marafiki Safari Lodge

Marafiki Safari Lodge; is a great safari accommodation that has a unique location and is well-designed with local materials, fitted by artisans from the local community. The lodge offers private luxury safari tents on raised wooden floors and canvas walls that allow you to sit comfortably watching the savannah plains with breathtaking views across the park and the Rwenzori Mountains .

Marafiki Safari Lodge lies overlooking lake George in the Queen Elizabeth National Park in the western region of Uganda. More so, the park stretches the equator and is one of Uganda’s most famous safari destinations; the lodge extends from Lake Edward in the southwest to Lake George in the northeast with the Kazinga Channel linking the two lakes. In general Queen Elizabeth National park, covers an area that estimates 1,978 square kilometers and was named after Queen Elizabeth 11.

The park is famous home to over 95 mammals such as herds of elephants, lions, leopards, hippos, chimpanzees, and tree-climbing lions many more and hosts over 600 bird species such as; Great white pelican, great blue turaco, common sand martin, collared pratincole, Broad-billed roller, Black-rumped buttonquail, Crab- plovers, African finfoots among others.

Activities at Marafiki Safari Lodge –Queen Elizabeth National Park

Queen Elizabeth National Park is home to a vast range of wildlife species that cannot be seen elsewhere in Africa and boosts over 600 species of birds and about 100 different animal species. The park is a wildlife paradise waiting to be explored on your Uganda Safaris . While at the lodge, you can participate in a morning game drive on the Kasenyi plains an afternoon boat safari on the Kazinga channel, enjoy sundowners around the campfire at Marafiki as well as discover the breathtaking beauty of the park and its inhabitants.

Land safaris

At the lodge, you can engage in a land safari where you can discover the wildlife species of Queen Elizabeth National Park than an early morning safari. You can enjoy sun rises behind the Kyambura Escarpment, elephants bathe in the watering holes before making their way to breathe fast and an abundance of Uganda kobs can be seen through the savannah grasslands. Other animal species discovered are waterbucks, warthogs, and hyenas on the Kasenyi plains or you can opt to do a nighttime safari for a chance to see the elusive leopard and round-eyed bush baby monkeys.

Boat cruise safari

This is exciting safari activity done at the famous Kazinga Channel that links with Lake Edward and Lake George while cruising at the channel will be able to view water species like crocodiles can be seen lying motionless on the banks, whilst buffalos cool off in sun-baked mud baths and the occasional elephant stops by to quench its thirst. The site is a true birder hoven, delighting in the hundreds of water species including the magnificent fish-eagle, shoe bill stork, and saddle-billed stork among others.

Visit Kyambura Gorge

While at a comfortable stay at Marafiki Safari Lodge, you can take a walk on the wild side and explore this beautiful underground forest that sits in the far east corner of the park. The hike starts where the savannah grasslands end and stuns over 100-meter-deep Gorge begins and measures 16 kilometers long, the steep slopes of the tree-covered valleys below.  While walking into the heart of the forest, you will be accompanied by the park guide and expect to see various primates such as chimpanzees, and red-tailed monkeys, and notable birds species can be discovered perched in the dense canopy of the tropical rainforest high above hovering in the sky.

Crater Lake Exploration

This crater lake is located northwest of Queen Elizabeth National park where you can visit and be stunned by a great view of the park and its amazing surroundings. This lake is home to an impressive range of both wildlife and birdlife species.  You will also explore the dramatic craters and dry calderas in the hilly landscape that surrounds you, watch out for basking in the watering holes whilst vast salmon pink flamingos stand sentry-like shimmering water.
