Matt Mays to perform at Shore Club this summer

Matt Mays has announced he will be returning to the Shore Club in Hubbards for a weekend of shows this summer.

In a release, it said the Dartmouth native will perform along side his band for four nights from Aug. 15 to 18.

“My heart feels so full that we get to be the soundtrack to this righteous escape,” said Mays. “It just gets more special every year, and I’m beyond excited to announce that one of our all-time favourite bands, ZEUS, is supporting every night!”

Tickets go on sale Feb. 2 at the Sonic Concerts website .

Having finally made it to the end of Daylight Saving's, summer is now officially on the horizon. Accordingly, Blue Rodeo have announced their annual summer hometown show, set to take place at Toronto's Budweiser Stage on August 24.

Joined by Dartmouth, NS-raised indie rocker Matt Mays and Winnipeg pop diva Begonia , the alt-country veterans will hit the stage, coming off of a big 2023 when they celebrated the 30th anniversary of their fifth studio album, Five Days in July . "Looking forward to celebrating — along with Matt Mays and Begonia  with all of you this summer," the band said in a release.

Tickets go on sale Friday (March 15), with presales starting Wednesday (March 13) at 10 a.m. ET.

Big names show up, a favorable free drop highlight a busy thursday at 2024 wells fargo championship, share this article.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One of the main criticisms the PGA Tour has faced so far this 2024 season with regard to its high-profile signature events has been the lack of stars at the top of the leaderboard in the early rounds.

The big players showed out early and often during the first round of the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship on Thursday at Quail Hollow Club, as did a handful of lesser-known names who earned their way into the elevated tournament that offers up a $20 million purse.

From the likes of Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas and Jason Day all in the top five to a controversial ruling and impressive performances from sponsor exemption players, here’s what you missed from a busy (and wet) opening round of the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship.

Wells Fargo: Friday tee times

Schauffele jumps out to early lead (and gets a favorable rules decision)

Xander Schauffele had just one blemish on a near-perfect scorecard in Thursday’s first round as the 30-year-old fired a 7-under 64 to take an early three-shot lead after the opening 18 holes.

Starting on the back nine, Schauffele birdied five of his first eight holes before he made his lone bogey of the round on the par-4 18th. After the turn to the front nine he rode the par train for Nos. 1- 6 before he made an impressive eagle on the par-5 7th and birdie on the par-4 9th holes.

Schauffele is winless this season but does have seven top-10 finishes under his belt. Earlier in the week he addressed the state of his game saying “a little bit of everything” has been working but he hasn’t “really been able to get everything together at once.”

Today he was able to piece it all together, and he also benefitted from a free drop despite hitting his ball into a penalty area on the par-4 8th hole. More on that here .

A tough start to Wyndham Clark's title defense

Wyndham Clark jumpstarted his breakout year on Tour here at Quail Hollow last year with his first-ever PGA Tour win, but the world No. 3’s title defense got off to a shaky start as Clark signed for a 2-over 73 on Thursday. He was one of 26 players that finished over par on a soggy course that was hampered by rain on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

After starting on No. 10, Clark had a psycho scorecard (shoutout Shane Bacon) early in the round as he made birdie on No. 10, back-to-back double bogeys on Nos. 11 and 12 and three straight birdies on Nos. 13-15. He’s off the pace early, but there’s still plenty of time to climb back into contention, not to mention there’s no cut in the Tour’s sixth signature event of the season.

New look No. 16 has same results

The new tee box on the par-4 16th was the talk of the town before the start of the tournament as Quail Hollow made the second-hardest hole on the property all the more challenging (in theory).

No. 16 had a scoring average of 4.27 last year, and after moving the tee back 20 yards to bring the scorecard yardage to 529 yards, Thursday’s scoring average came in at 4.21. Just three birdies were made to go along with 49 pars, 15 bogeys and one double bogey.

“The new tee on 16 is a bear,” said Webb Simpson, a Quail Hollow member since 2011 and resident since 2014, before the tournament began. “The question before for me was can I ever carry the bunker and I only could downwind. Now the bunker’s not really even in play.”

“It definitely makes that second shot really unique,” Max Homa said. “That’s a tough second shot, so I think that’s fun to — I think it is one of those rare positive changes of moving a tee that far back and actually continuing to give the long guys an advantage but kind of making them hit into a similar width fairway that the rest of us are.”

As Quail Hollow prepares to host next year’s PGA Championship, a new tee was also added to the par-3 13th to add 10 yards, greens were resurfaced with Tif Eagle Bermudagrass and 12 putting surfaces saw slopes get softened to offer better hole locations at higher green speeds. In addition to the new tees and greens, bunkers were also rebuilt with new drainage, liners and sand.

Rory McIlroy was a big fan of the Tom Brady roast

Oh yeah, he’s also part of a seven-person subcommittee that will be negotiating with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

How did the sponsor exemptions fare?

PGA Tour policy board member Webb Simpson defended his fourth sponsor exemption to the Tour’s sixth big-money signature event of the season earlier in the week before the tournament and backed up his argument with his play on Thursday. The Quail Hollow member rolled out of his own bed on Thursday morning and shot a 1-under 70 to sit T-16 after the opening 18 holes.

His fellow sponsor invites Matt Kuchar (69, T-12), Adam Scott (71, T-31) and Gary Woodland (70, T-16) also showed up to play. For all the debate on the players receiving invites (and if invites should even be allowed for signature events), the four in the field this week have backed up their selection so far.

2024 Wells Fargo Championship picks, predictions, odds, field: Golf expert likes Wyndham Clark at Quail Hollow

A renovated Quail Hollow Club will greet PGA Tour players this week when play begins in the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship beginning on Thursday at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte. After last year's tournament, the club closed for a few months to undergo a renovation. The project included redoing all the tees and greens, installing a new drainage system, and overhauling the bunkers. Quail Hollow is set to host next year's PGA Championship.

This week, three-time champion Rory McIlroy is the favorite in the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship odds at +650. Xander Schauffele is the +900 second choice in the Wells Fargo Championship 2024 field. Defending champion Wyndham Clark (+1600), Patrick Cantlay (+1800) and Max Homa (+2200) round out the top five choices. One surprise: Nejad is completely fading Tommy Fleetwood, even though he is one of the favorites at +2200. The 33-year-old from Southport, England, has eight international wins. Earlier this year, he won the Dubai Invitational on the DP World Tour by one stroke over, among others, McIlroy.

But while Fleetwood has had success internationally, he has yet to win on the PGA Tour in 134 career starts. "[He] has no business being +2200," Nejad told SportsLine. "He has great history at Quail Hollow, but he's shown no ability to close on the PGA Tour over his career and this is not the field for him to finally pull it off."

However, Nejad is high on the chances of Wyndham Clark, who is +1600 in the Wells Fargo Championship odds. Ranked No. 3 in the world, Clark has one win, two seconds and four top-10 finishes in 10 events this season. He hasn't played since finishing third in the RBC Heritage three weeks ago.

Nejad likes that Clark has excelled in all of the strokes gained metrics this year. He ranks second in strokes gained: total (1.780) behind only Scottie Scheffler. McKINNEY, Texas (AP) — Taylor Pendrith tried his best to ignore Ben Kohles’ final-hole meltdown , focusing on the eagle putt that the Canadian thought he might have to make even to force a playoff as he walked toward the 18th green.

Several stunning minutes later, a 3-footer for birdie gave Pendrith his first PGA Tour victory.

Kohles overtook Pendrith with birdies on Nos. 16 and 17 for a one-shot lead, then bogeyed the 18th after hitting his second shot into greenside rough. Already in shock following two chips from the rough — the second with his feet in a bunker — Kohles missed a 6-foot putt that would have forced a playoff.

“Wasn’t really trying to pay attention to what they were doing, although it really mattered, obviously,” Pendrith said. “I feel for Ben. He played really, really good today, especially down the stretch. I’ve been on the other side of it a couple times, and it sucks. But it’s golf. It’s a hard game.”

Pendrith shot 4-under 67 for a 23-under 261 total at the TPC Craig Ranch. The 32-year-old won in his 74th career PGA Tour start.

Playing just north of his birthplace of Dallas, Kohles shot 66 to finish a stroke back. The 34-year-old who plays out of North Carolina is winless in 68 starts.

“Honestly, hadn’t seen any rough like that all week,” said Kohles, who moved to North Carolina when he was 10. “Just needed a little bit more umph on it. Did so many good things this week, and I’m just going to keep reminding myself of that and try to get myself back in this position.”

Alex Noren, a Swedish player also seeking a first PGA Tour victory, was another stroke back. He wowed the crowd on the stadium hole at the par-3 17th with a tee shot to 2 1/2 feet, but followed that birdie with a par knowing he probably needed an eagle on 18. Noren shot 65 and was alone in third at 21 under.

Aaron Rai and first-round leader Matt Wallace of England were at 20 under along with the South Korean pair of S.H. Kim and Byeong Hun An. Rai and Kim shot 64, An 65 and Wallace 68.

Pendrith, the third-round leader, and Kohles were separated by just one shot or tied most of the day. After Kohles made a 20-footer to take the lead on 17, Pendrith’s par putt rolled all the way around the cup and went in.

“It just curled in, that putt on the last second there, which was unreal just to give me a chance,” said Pendrith, who set it up with a chip from an awkward stance with his heels hanging over the lip of a bunker, after saving par with another testy putt at the par-4 16th.

The victory qualified Pendrith for the PGA Championship in two weeks and next year’s Masters. He’s also in the next three $20 million signature events, starting next week with the Wells Fargo championship. Kohles and Noren also played their way into Wells Fargo with their Nelson showings.

With Wells Fargo and the PGA coming in the next two weeks, just three of the top 30 in the world ranking were in the field.

Jordan Spieth, the highest at No. 20, missed the cut for just the second time in 12 appearances at his hometown event. Defending champion Jason Day (22nd) and Tom Kim (23rd) didn’t contend, with Day finishing one shot behind Kim at 9 under.

Jake Knapp, the second-round leader who three years ago was working as a security guard in his home state of California, shot 70 to finish at 19 under. Knapp and Wallace were the only players in the top eight with a previous PGA Tour win.

The start of the final round was pushed back 2 1/2 hours because of overnight rain, and pairings turned into threesomes going off both tees with the players allowed to lift, clean and place shots in the fairway.

Wallace appeared to start a charge by chipping in for birdie at 12, the toughest hole of the week, and getting another birdie at the par-4 13th. A three-putt bogey on the par-3 15th stalled him out.

Rafael Campos, a 13-year journeyman from Puerto Rico who has spent most of his career on satellite tours, birdied five of the first six holes starting on the back nine to make the turn at 29.

The 36-year-old cooled off on his second nine before making a 48-foot putt from off the green for eagle on the par-5 ninth for a 63 that put him at 18 under.

Taiga Semikawa, a 23-year-old from Japan playing on a sponsor exemption, also finished at 18 after a 64.

Kris Kim, a 16-year old amateur making his PGA Tour debut, had a rough finish as the youngest to play a final round on tour in 10 years.

Playing his final nine on the front, the son of South Korean-born former LPGA Tour player Ji-Hyun Suh had four bogeys and shot 73 to finish 6 under.

Kim, who is from England, played on a sponsor exemption from the South Korean company and tournament title sponsor CJ Group.

Johnny Marr and James — both natives of the aforementioned England city — are embarking on a 20-concert North American co-headlining tour this fall.

Along the way, the pair will stop in for one night at Brooklyn’s newly opened Paramount Theatre on Tuesday, Oct. 8.

This won’t be their first time touring together either; James opened for Marr’s band The Smiths on the group’s 1985 ‘Meat Is Murder Tour.’

Steve Martin and Martin Short extend 2024 tour, add NY show. Get tickets

W e thought the most exciting Steve Martin and Martin Short news this year would be all the special guests they’ve lined up for Season four of Hulu’s “Only Murders In The Building.”

(For the record, Molly Shannon, Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy, Kumail Nanjiani, and Zach Galifianakis are joining the ensemble).

However, that’s not all the funnymen have planned for this year.

Martin and Short just announced they’ve added ten shows to their ongoing ‘Dukes Of Funnytown Tour.’

The newly added gigs will take place from September through October and includes a night at Brookville, NY’s Tilles Center Concert Hall on Saturday, Oct. 19.

Prior to that, the goofy septuagenarians are slated to share the stage at Atlantic City’s Etess Arena at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on Saturday, May 18.

At all shows, fans can expect to see Martin and Short — who have been touring together since 2015 — roast each other and deliver jokes “at a rapid-fire pace with little setup and big punchlines (that) mock Hollywood and the fickle nature of celebrity” according to a press release.

Kentucky Derby Ticket Prices 2024: How Much Does It Cost to Get In?

The 2024 Kentucky Derby has finally arrived, and it is a big one. Saturday's race will mark the 150th to take place at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY. There will undoubtedly be some additional fanfare to celebrate the sesquicentennial race, but you can also expect the usual Derby fare — outrageous outfits, Mint Juleps, and an exciting race.

There will also be the usual assortment of famous and wealthy individuals in attendance. The Derby, among all its other qualities, is a gathering place for many highly successful individuals, from Tom Brady to Jack Harlow. Even the Queen of England attended back in 2007. Whenever the camera pans ove the crowd during the Derby the audience is almost assured to spot someone rich, famous, or both.

Those people don't have any trouble attending the Derby, what with their endless bank accounts and all. But what are ticket prices like for the general population?

Kentucky Derby Ticket Prices 2024

Tickets can be purchased directly from the Kentucky Derby official website .

An Infield General Admission ticket, which gets you in the door, costs $130. This is as basic as basic admission gets for the Derby. You get to go in through the gates to Churchill Downs, receive a program, enjoy what must be an overpriced specialty cocktail, and set up your own lawn chair to watch the Derby itself on the big board.

The next level of GA is listed as an Infield Final Turn General Admission ticket. The price point starts at $275, and it is as advertised. A standing room only ticket that lets you set up shop on the lawn right by the final turn. An exciting place to be, no matter how close the race is, and a fairly reasonable price upgrade compared to the Infield GA ticket.

A higher-level entry price comes in the form of a Frontside Plaza Walkaround ticket, which are already sold out. The starting price listed on the Derby website for such a ticket is $693. Sold as a two-day package for the Kentucky Oaks as well as the Derby, it's advertised as enjoying "a reimagined view of the Paddock with standing room access and frontside amenities." Regardless, that's a pretty penny, to be sure.

After that is when the real money starts rolling. The hospitality suites are all very expensive; the Silks Balcony & Loge, for example, charges $3,650 for entry. The Turf Club Balcony & Terrace costs $3,525 to get in. There are some more semi-reasonable options, such as the Champions Balcony & Loge ($1,775) or the Plaza Balcony & Loge ($1,775).

The nicest listed options appear to be the Woodford Reserve Paddock Club & Enclosure and the Spires Terrace & Suites. Neither has a price listed; interested parties must contact the Derby. As with many sporting events, the "cheap" options aren't very cheap and the nicest options can run up to thousands of dollars.

That's just about all you need to know about how much it costs to attend the Kentucky Derby in 2024. Enjoy!
