1. Dr. Pepper Ballpark

There’s little in life more full of Americana than baseball, and that’s especially true when it comes to minor league baseball, the small city attraction that draws out the crowds on nearly every night of the week throughout the summer.

You can catch the Frisco Rough Riders if you visit the area during season.

But the coolest (quite literally) part of the ballpark? The Choctaw Lazy River rising about the right field.

That’s right! You can sit right in the water as you watch the game play out, with great views and lots of access, as well as an all-you-can-eat menu for you and all your friends.

2. The Frisco Heritage Museum

A museum totally dedicated to the history of this Northern Texas town, the Frisco Heritage Museum shows off the culture of the city through artifacts, film and more.

Check out the historic building replicas, a real locomotive and caboose and more.

The replica town includes a jail, homes, a railroad depot, blacksmith shop, school, church, windmill, fountain and gazebo, and it’s all set on four acres.

7. Toyota Stadium

8. Dr. I.S. Rogers Home

For a little taste of Frisco history, the Dr. I.S. Rogers Home provides a look at one of the town’s most important original residents.

Dr. Rogers, born in 1861 in what is now northeast Frisco, would move away from Texas to seek his medical degree, until he later moved back to Frisco, when it was established in 1902.

He moved his family and medical practice to the town in a covered wagon, and then became both Frisco’s very first doctor and very first mayor in 1908. He did a little bit of everything, from dealing with epidemics to delivering babies (at a price of $15). His home here in Frisco was built in 1916, and he died there in 1933.

9. The Museum of the American Railroad

A great stop on your list if you have a train enthusiast in your travel group, the Museum of the American Railroad has all things to do with the history of rail in not only Texas, but also the entire country.

The exhibits feature various artifacts from the rail industry, and several trains are also on display, for both viewing and touring.

Though the museum was originally begun in 1961 to preserve the then-outdated steam passenger trains, it has lived on, and still is at its mission today.

10. The Frisco Art Gallery

Football fans won’t want to miss this must-see. The Star is 91 acres of awesome, but it just so happens to be the place the Dallas Cowboys world headquarters calls home.

In addition to the Cowboys’ corporate offices and a practice facility, there’s also Ford Center, which is an indoor football stadium.

This $7.5 billion project is a Hindu temple located right next to the Hanuman Cultural Center and Datta Yoga Center, both also worth a visit.

Hanuman is the Hindu monkey god, who represents becoming a better person and is often connected to guru Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Swamiji, a Hindu spiritual leader with a worldwide following, including many of the people who visit this temple.

It just so happens to be the first temple outside of India to boast a jade stone Hanuman idol.

20. Dunaway Cemetery

No travel is complete without a trip to the city’s spookiest cemetery. Stop by Dunaway Cemetery, named after Foster W. Dunaway, who established the first drug store in Dallas.

The cemetery contains the 14 known graves of the Dunaway family, with the oldest headstone dating back to 1867. The cemetery has been nicely preserved, and is surrounded by green space and a beautiful wrought iron fence.

21. Bicentennial Park

This park was once Frisco’s only park, but now it’s known for another popular aspect — the Homer Carter Tractor.

This 1939 Formal F20 tractor and the subsequent farm implements celebrate the town’s farming past, and recognizes the rich agricultural heritage, which was very attractive to homesteaders settling in the region.

22. Historic Downtown

Before Frisco, there was Emerson, established in 1902, and derived from the Francis Emerson Farm, named after Francis Emerson, who was the president of the First National Bank of McKinney.

The land was planned into a city by the St.

Louis and San Francisco Railroad, and then named Emerson.

However, there was another nearby city called Emerson, and to avoid confusion, the name was changed to Frisco, after the Frisco railroad.

You can now see where the original town of Emerson was, as it’s contained by John Elliott Street, North and South Country Roads, Ash Street and Walnut Street.

23. Calaboose

Frisco’s calaboose may sound a little weird, but the word actually just refers to a jail, and was used in the U.S. south during the turn of the century.

The calaboose was first used in 1912, and continued until the 1950s.

The concrete structure has two barred windows and one steel door, and a dirt floor and no electricity or running water.

It was less than 170 square feet, and it could only hold one prisoner, until they were transferred to the county jail or released.

It’s not a surprise that Texans like their guns, and so it’s also no surprise that there’s a gun range in Frisco.

The Frisco Gun Club is a premier indoor shooting range with the highest safety requirements.

There are classes available on gun usage and safety, but if someone else in your travel group would prefer to shoot while you occupy yourself otherwise, there’s also a cafe, so you can grab a bite to eat while you wait.

The diesel-electric locomotive was built for the Centennial Celebration of the transcontinental railroad, with only 47 made and 13 left. Step back in time to Frisco's past at the Frisco Heritage Center , where exhibits include pioneer items such as a log cabin, schoolhouse, old jail, a steam locomotive and caboose, Gaby's Blacksmith Shop, the Frisco Railroad Depot, historic homes, and even a windmill. With a nod to Frisco's railroad past, the Museum of the American Railroad celebrates rail history with artifacts, archival materials, and exhibits such as locomotives and rail cars. Don't miss the Union Pacific "Big Boy" steam locomotive, the world's largest locomotive that was built in 1942. A more modern experience is the National Videogame Museum , where videogame history is preserved. There's a full '80s arcade, the world's largest Pong console, and plenty of vintage and modern games to enjoy. Also in the Frisco Discovery Center , the Black Box Theater is one of the few black box theaters in North Texas and showcases improv, plays, films, and concerts.

Where To Eat

As the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex continues to grow, so do its suburbs, including Frisco. One great thing about growth though? The incredible dining scene that naturally comes with it. There are far too many great spots in Frisco to name, but Nerdvana Food + Spirits , where video and board game pop culture collide with crazy cocktails and delicious "bytes," is a great place to start. Try the Elven Elixir (gin, wildberry puree, lemon-infused simple syrup, and elderflower liqueur) for a cocktail, and the chicken and shrimp pasta with Sonic Boom sauce on linguine. The Heritage Table serves up farm-to-table comfort classics like their Southern Shrimp Boil with shrimp, house sausage, jalapeño hush puppies, and a red pepper remoulade, and Bottled & Bond Cocktail Parlour and Kitchen creates elevated modern cocktails and vintage cocktail classics alongside thoughtful menu items such as scallion and cheddar potato beignets, bison meatballs, black-eyed pea hummus.

Where To Stay

Located in the Dallas Cowboys' entertainment district, the Omni Frisco at the Star has 300 modern guest rooms and suites, a sparkling pool with cabanas and a pool bar, an on-site restaurant, and a fitness center. The Westin Stonebriar Golf Resort and Spa sits on 400 acres and includes a spa, kids' club, pool with cabanas, waterslide, and a splash pad; a golf course next door, and a fitness studio. Kids love the new Activity Lawn. Located next to the PGA of America headquarters, the Omni PGA Frisco Resort has 500 guest rooms and suites, 10 four-bedroom ranch houses, four pools, a full-service spa, and golf experiences, from championship courses to practice areas, for all ages and abilities.

Adding to the nostalgia, there is an 80s-themed bedroom complete with vintage sheets, drawers full of retro games, and trading cards. Music also adds to the ambiance, with classic tracks blasting throughout the museum.

HUNT FOR THE PUBLIC ART

Frisco is home to one of Texas’s largest collections of public art. With over 80 pieces on display, there’s plenty to see while walking around town. Frisco’s public art mainly consists of sculptures, but you’ll also find paintings, murals, and other installations.

Nearly half of these awe-inspiring pieces reside in the Texas Sculpture Garden , located in Hall Park. The sculptures in the garden are all by Texas artists, and they’re rotated out every few years. So even if you’ve been to Frisco before, you’re bound to see something new on your next visit.

As for the rest of the collection, you’ll find public art all over town. The Frisco Square Public Art Walking Tour is a great way to see some of the highlights. But we also recommend just keeping your eyes peeled as you explore Frisco. You never know when you’ll stumble upon a hidden gem!

EXPLORE THE MUSEUM OF THE AMERICAN RAILROAD

America was built on the railroad, and there’s no better place to learn about its history than the Museum of the American Railroad . This museum is one of the largest of its kind in the country, and it’s packed with fascinating exhibits.

You can explore vintage locomotives and cars, see how railroads have changed over time, and learn about the people who built and operated them. There are both life-sized and scale models on display, which are equally impressive.

A guided tour is the best way to experience everything the museum offers. It’s recommended to call ahead and make a reservation, as tours do fill up quickly.

COOL OFF AT LIMESTONE QUARRY PARK

Texas heat can be brutal, especially in the summer. But don’t worry; we’ve got you covered with our next pick. Limestone Quarry Park is a 15-acre oasis in the middle of Frisco. The park features a swimming hole that stays refreshingly cool even on the hottest days.

The water is surprisingly clear, and there are scenic views all around. You can also bring your raft or tube to float around in. A basketball court and BBQ grill are also available if you want to dry off and take a break from the water.

Next on our list of things to do in Frisco is the Frisco Heritage Museum . This museum is dedicated to preserving the history of Frisco and North Texas. Another impressive locomotive greets visitors at the entrance.

Inside, you’ll find a variety of exhibits that tell the story of Frisco’s past. One of our favorites is the replica of an old blacksmith shop. There’s also an old Calaboose Jail that will take you right back to the Wild West. Alternatively, you can visit a school house, log cabin, and windmill.

Be sure to check out the calendar of events before you go. The museum often has special exhibitions, performances, and other events that bring life to its fascinating exhibits. Some of the public art we mentioned earlier is also on display at the Frisco Heritage Museum.

TOUR THE NATIONAL SOCCER HALL OF FAME

Soccer is the most popular sport in the world, and Frisco is home to the National Soccer Hall of Fame . Known for the Induction Ceremony and Museum, the National Soccer Hall of Fame enables fans to celebrate the sport and its history.

The futuristic exhibits deliver a futuristic and personalized experience. You begin by providing information about yourself and your favorite team. From there, you’ll see exhibits that are tailored to your preferences. These may include player profiles, team facts and statistics, and game footage. There are also skill challenges like juggling and kicking that you can take part in.

Past Hall of Famers and other notable figures in the soccer world are honored with inductions each year. Attending the ceremony is a must if you happen to be in Frisco during induction season.

BIKE THE TRAIL AT NORTHWEST COMMUNITY PARK

Northwest Community Park is one of the best places to go for a walk, run, or bike ride in Frisco. The park has nearly 10 miles of trails, making it the perfect place to get some exercise. The trails wind through woods and open fields, providing a variety of scenery. There are also several playgrounds, pavilions, and picnic areas if you need a break.

Biking is the best way to travel the dirt trails. The “Coyote, Ranger and Wolverine Loop” is a great trail for beginners, and it takes roughly an hour and a half to complete. Maintained by DOBRA (Domestiques, Off-road Bicyclists, and Racers Association), you’ll find that the trails are always in pristine condition.

Frisco Commons Park is also another city park that has walking trails, a playground, a stocked pond, a bike trail, picnic tables, and more.

Remember that Texas can be quite hot, so it’s best to start your ride early in the day and stay hydrated.

SEE FC DALLAS AT TOYOTA STADIUM

We go back to soccer for our next item. Toyota Stadium is home to FC Dallas, a Major League Soccer team. The stadium has a capacity of over 20,000 and offers a great view of the field from every seat. The city built the stadium with soccer fans in mind, and it definitely shows.

The atmosphere in this relatively new stadium is electric. The supporters’ section is always rowdy and adds to the experience. One cool thing about this stadium is their in-game app. It allows you to order food and drinks from your seat, so you don’t have to miss a minute of the action. The selection is impressive, and the service is quick.

Like most stadiums, FC Dallas’ home doubles as a concert venue. So, even if you’re not a soccer fan, there’s still a good chance you’ll find an event that interests you.

Across from Toyota Stadium, you’ll find the Frisco Farmers Market on weekends.

OR A GAME AT DR. PEPPER BALLPARK

If baseball is more your speed, you can catch a game at Dr. Pepper/Seven Up Ballpark. Now officially called Riders Field , this is the home of the minor league Frisco RoughRiders. The ballpark has a capacity of 10,216 and features a retro design.

One unique aspect of this stadium is the Lazy River. You read that right! Above the right-field wall is a giant pool where you can float while watching the game. The RoughRiders even offer floating tubes while you enjoy a beer under the sun. Even in colder temperatures, the heated pool is still open.

Turn your ball outing into a party and enjoy 360-degree views of the field. A DJ spins tunes and leads the crowd in between innings. You can also catch a game from one of the bars and restaurants surrounding the stadium. Note that these booze-filled parties are reserved for adult baseball fans.

BRING THE KIDS TO SCI-TECH DISCOVERY CENTER

Instead of the Lazy River, bring your kids to the Sci-Tech Discovery Center . They’ll have a blast learning about science, math, and technology. This hands-on museum is designed for kids aged 2 to 12.

A popular destination for school field trips, the center has hosted many exhibits over the years, ranging from robotics to forensic science. Kids can learn about the human body, natural disasters, and even space exploration. The staff is super friendly and always willing to answer any questions.

This location is also known for hosting epic birthday parties. They have several party packages to choose from, and the staff takes care of everything. All you need to do is show up and enjoy the fun.

CELEBRATE THE PIGSKIN AT THE STAR & FORD CENTER

We told you that Frisco was a sports paradise, and we’re not done yet. The Star is the official Home of the Dallas Cowboys. In addition to being the practice facility for America’s Team, The Star is also home to Ford Center , a 12,000-seat stadium. The indoor facility is used for high school football games, concerts, and other events.

The Star complex also has the Omni Frisco Hotel, a luxury hotel that overlooks the practice fields. You’ll get $100 of food and beverage credit just for staying there. For those who want to feel like a true VIP, the Cowboys-themed hotel is the way to go.

If you’re an athlete yourself, be sure to visit Nike at The Star. The massive store has all the latest gear, and you can even get fitted for cleats.

As you can imagine, this place is more than a stadium. It’s more like a small village. In fact, The Star District is made up of more than 91 acres. Over 20 restaurants, dozens of boutique shops, and a movie theater are all within walking distance. With so much to do, you could easily spend an entire day here.

VISIT KARYA SIDDHI HANUMAN TEMPLE

Frisco is also home to one of the largest Hindu temples in the United States. The Karya Siddhi Hanuman Temple is a beautiful and peaceful place. Lush green gardens, towering statues, and intricate carvings decorate the temple. Visitors of all faiths are welcome to explore the temple and learn about the Hindu religion.

One of the unique aspects of this temple is its architecture. The exterior is made to look like a traditional Indian temple, and the interior is just as impressive. The temple is also home to many shrines and pictures, each dedicated to a different god or goddess.

When arriving at the grounds, it truly feels like you were transported to another country. Auspicious music is played throughout the day, and the smell of incense fills the air. No trip to Texas is complete without some good ol’ barbecue, and Tender Smokehouse has some of the best around. The family-owned restaurant is known for its mouthwatering ribs, brisket, and sausage. Pitmaster Dante Ramirez prides himself on using hand-crafted, Texas-made products.

Everything is cooked low and slow over pecan and hickory wood, giving the meat a unique flavor. Be sure to try the mac and cheese, BBQ beans, and potato salad. Their sides are just as good as the main course! This homestyle cooking will make you feel right at home.

After your meal, enjoy a refreshing pint of beer on the patio. With over 30 beers on tap, there’s no shortage of options. Located in an easily-accessible area of Frisco, Tender Smokehouse is in a prime location to enjoy the beautiful Texas weather.

OR DINE WITH LIVE TUNES

Finally, many people come to Frisco for live music. Restaurants like Eight11 Place & Diddi’s Downtown have live bands most nights of the week. The former is an intimate wine bar with a laid-back vibe, while the latter has a more homey atmosphere.

For a more upscale experience, check out Rare Books Bar . The famous speakeasy is known for its delicious food and live jazz music. Here, you’ll find tuxedo-clad performers and a ridiculously extensive beverage list. Some of the rarest whiskeys, scotches, and bourbons are served here.

As for food, Rare Books Bar also delivers on its promise. The menu includes upscale comfort food like calamari, sesame seared ahi tuna, and the famous Wagyu burger.

How To Spend A Long Weekend In Charming Frisco, TX

When you think of visiting a fun place in Texas that has it all, Frisco might just come to mind — after all, it’s known as the city that plays. Frisco is also one of the fastest-growing cities in the country and a great place to raise a family. It’s your go-to place for all things sports attractions, entertainment, and a foodie paradise. And it’s only a 25-minute drive from the Dallas Fort Worth Airport north of Dallas.

Frisco, Texas has more than a couple one-of-its-kind experiences, and the newest is the PGA, coming to town in 2022. There’s certainly a lot of excitement going on in Frisco for everyone to enjoy. Pack your bags for a long weekend in Frisco!

Things To Do In Frisco

The range of experiences in Frisco is wide opened and plentiful. I got to know Frisco a little better during my long weekend stay. Frisco is an old town with new vibes. Not only can you enjoy what I call the “old part of town,” you can enjoy what put Frisco, on the map — The Star District, Soccer Hall of Fame, Stonebriar Centre, et cetera. But don’t go to the city that plays without visiting downtown. It’s so adorable with old houses that have been renovated into awesome, sweet, charming restaurants and boutiques.

Pro Tip: Most of what to experience in Frisco is walkable, and you’ll find free parking everywhere.

The Star District

Are you a Dallas Cowboys fan? Okay, you don’t have to be a fan of the Cowboys to enjoy this sports and entertainment district. The Star in Frisco houses several attractions, and one is the Ford Center — home of the Dallas Cowboys Headquarters and practice facility. This area also houses over 20 restaurants, upscale boutiques, a spa, and the cutest tea room — all in a walkable venue.

Heirloom Haul

Heirloom Haul is the darling tea room positioned inside the Flea Style boutique that sits on the corner right in the midst of all the excitement at The Star. It’s the perfect place for brunch or lunch with your bestie. Also, inside the boutique is a space called The Bar that sells ready-made custom hats, and –here’s the best part — they help you design your hat with all their vintage accents, including brooches, scarves, hairpins, and unique items that they find at second-hand stores. It’s the neatest thing we came across.

Shop At Stonebriar Centre

With over nine million square feet of retail space, the Hyatt Regency hotel connected, restaurants galore, name-brand stores, and more, it’s possible you might find yourself captivated in all the shopping. Stonebriar Centre Mall is one of the largest shopping malls in North Texas. Not only is there all the above, but there’s also an AMC Theater, a carousel, and a place where you can create your own mixed media art called Pipe and Palette . We were hosted here and had a great time splattering our canvases! This would be a great place to celebrate a birthday or get a group together to have fun.

Bring along the grandkids to experience this one-of-a-kind built by kids for kids learning and play facility: KidZania. It’s one of its kind in the United States. At KidZania, there are over a hundred hands-on educational learning experiences for children ages 4 to 14. Let your kids’ creativity and imagination run wild while they explore diverse cultures and role-play in various career-oriented fields. This is also located in The Stonebriar Centre.

Take A Self-Guided Tour To See Outside Art All Around Frisco

Do you love outdoor art? Frisco features one of the largest collections of public art in Texas. Take a leisurely walk around Frisco Square and City Hall and view Frisco Public Art . Be sure to look for hearts around the city that say #IHeartFrisco for those picture-worthy snapshots for Instagram. You can’t miss them — look for the red hearts. Also, take a self-guided walking tour of the outdoor Texas Sculpture Garden at Hall Park. If time allows, take a tour inside for more art and information about the artists.

National Soccer Hall Of Fame

Calling all soccer fans! The National Soccer Hall Of Fame (NSHOF), where you can find fun and interactive experiences, is open to the public. It’s also home to US Soccer, and it’s located in the Toyota Stadium. The NSHOF honors the past, present, and future and includes virtual reality and interactive digital video boards to celebrate the players, veterans, and builders of American soccer. It features interactive exhibits and iconic soccer memorabilia and serves as the home for Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. Closed Monday and Tuesday.

Stroll Through The Rail District

Every town has a downtown, and this is Frisco’s historic downtown all in a walkable area. It’s quaint, eclectic, and full of charm. The Rail District comprises several things to do with family, couples, and groups, including dining, shopping, food trucks, and experiences. And, while you’re there, look for the big beautiful white house that houses the longest-running family-owned and operated restaurant in Frisco: Randy’s Steakhouse . I love this area and I love how business owners take old homes and turn them into quaint restaurants and boutiques. And, if rambling at a farmers market entices you, there’s one here on Saturday mornings.

Pro Tip: There’s free parking everywhere, including side streets.

Go For An Escape Room Experience

At Countdown 2 Escape downtown, if you dare, ask to be put in the hardest room they have! My friend and I experienced it, and though we can’t say we escaped, we can say we had a lot of fun trying! I mean, how many clues can one group get?

Best Restaurants In Frisco

You’ll find a great variety of food offered in Frisco. There is truly something for everyone, from family-owned restaurants and one-of-a-kind establishments to food trucks, upscale diners, hamburgers, and chips. You will not go hungry in this town!

Pro Tip: No matter where we ate, I noticed every restaurant asked their guests if they had reservations (even at establishments where reservations were not required). Luckily, we had reservations everywhere we dined. Our takeaway: It’s wise to make reservations when dining out in Frisco, especially on weekends, including Friday nights.

J. Theodore Restaurant And Bar

Local fresh cuisine, hand-juiced cocktails, just-brewed espresso, made in-house bakery items, and a neighborhood favorite — what’s not to love about that! Whether you want brunch, lunch, or dinner, J. Theodore is your place for fancy dining.

And while you’re there, step over to the Rare Books Bar, a hidden speakeasy lounge accessible via the phone booth. What an experience that was. I picked up the phone and was asked what kind of book I wanted. I answered, and we were let in!

Eight 11 Place

Locally owned and located in The Rail District in a quaint old home, as I was explaining above, Eight 11 Place is your go-to for craft beers, curated wines, an unforgettable happy hour, and, of course, great fun and food. Make yourself at home out on the patio with live music most days of the week. At night, the patio is lit up with light strung above you. The ambiance is even more reason to come for a visit.

Pro Tip: Reservations are highly encouraged. Closed Sundays and Mondays.

The Heritage Table

As we sat across the street from where we had dinner, I kept looking over at this large old home painted a country hunter green, thinking that someone must live there as I didn’t see any commotion. But, as soon as the lights came on inside and out, people were starting to arrive for dinner. I couldn’t help but go over there and grab a menu so I could share it here. The Heritage Table is a scratch kitchen serving dinners that include salmon, steak, pork chops, fish, chicken pot pie, and more. The ambiance inside was dark, with candles lit at every table. To me, this would be a perfect romantic dinner for two.

Haystack Burgers And Barley

Located in The Rail District of Frisco, Haystack Burgers is a family affair featuring some of the best burgers in town and local Dallas/Fort Worth beers. It’s definitely a place to take the family.

Tupelo Honey

When a friend recommends you try a restaurant she travels an hour to just to eat the biscuits, you probably should check it out. Tupelo Honey is that place: a made-from-scratch southern Carolina-inspired national chain located in The Star District. My first thought when I heard the name was the song “Tupelo Honey” by Van Morrison. I asked the waiters behind the counter if they’ve ever heard of the song and who sung it. They had to ask Siri — I guess I was showing my age. Okay, back to the biscuits! Not only are they known for their giant-sized buttermilk biscuits, they serve two on a plate for only $4, and all biscuit proceeds go to Tupelo Honey employees should they ever need assistance.

From luxury to mid-luxury to family affordable, you’ll find a place to stay that fits your needs and wants. Here are a few to check out.

Hyatt Regency

The upscale Hyatt Regency in Frisco is connected to Stonebriar Centre. This is where we were hosted for the weekend. Our rooms were nice, spacious, and comfy. We enjoyed walking out of our rooms through the Copper and Steel Market through the glass doors to the mall. Very convenient for the mall shoppers. There’s even a small children’s library to the right as you walk out the glass doors. Parking is free.

The Westin Stonebriar Golf Resort And Spa

The Westin Stonebriar recently reopened after a $32 million renovation and features an on-site spa, golf course, and kid’s club. Luxury at its best.

Omni Frisco Hotel

Adjacent to The Star is this luxury property that opened in 2017 and is the perfect spot for football fans. At the Omni Frisco Hotel , you walk out of the hotel and into the sports and entertainment district right at your footsteps. I enjoyed staying here a while back. The hotel is gorgeous, spotless, and eye-catching.

Pro Tips 

Frisco’s old and new is what locals love about their town. They can enjoy the newest things and also enjoy the laid-back feel of the downtown Rail District, and you will, too.

The city is meticulously designed to replicate a real-world environment, with over 100 establishments that represent different industries and professions. From pilot to chef, doctor to firefighter, and journalist to fashion designer, there’s a vast array of jobs for kids to explore.

As kids take on different roles, they receive hands-on training and experience firsthand what it’s like to be a part of a particular profession. Whether it’s wearing a uniform, using real tools, or engaging in realistic simulations, every activity is designed to provide a genuine taste of the job. It’s an incredible opportunity for children to explore their interests, discover hidden talents, and gain valuable insights into the working world.

One of the most exciting aspects of KidZania is that children can earn their own KidZos, the official currency of this make-believe city. By successfully completing tasks and contributing to their chosen professions, kids are rewarded with KidZos. 

They can then use this currency to purchase goods, services, or even save up for more extravagant experiences within KidZania, like rock climbing (up the side of a building), or a construction zone ropes course. The concept of earning and spending money teaches children important lessons about financial responsibility and the value of hard work.

KidZania is a city for, well, kids, which means parents are not able to participate in most activities. In fact, kids 8 and up are able to explore the city entirely on their own, while their parents enjoy the comfort of the parent’s lounge. Of course parents are welcome to chaperone their children around the city, should they so desire, and there are a handful of activities parents can do alongside their kids. 

For my son who is obsessed with emergency vehicles, the emergency room and firefighting experiences were a dream come true. As a firefighter, he learned about different types of fires and how to fight them, before donning a firefighter’s jacket and hat and climbing aboard a fire truck that drove the kids, sirens wailing, to the site of a ‘fire’ at a building across town.

There, the kid manned hoses and sprayed real water at a simulated fire that blazed and ebbed in response to their efforts before finally dying down.

In the ER experience, they learned some First Aid basics and then boarded an ambulance, again with the sirens blaring, to drive across town to administer first aid to a ‘patient’ (one of the parents).

National Videogame Museum

For all the gaming enthusiasts out there, a visit to the National Videogame Museum in Frisco, Texas, is an absolute must. 

The National Videogame Museum is a treasure trove of nostalgia, taking visitors on a captivating trip through the past, present, and future of gaming. From the earliest arcade classics to modern consoles and virtual reality experiences, this museum houses an impressive collection of artifacts that highlight the industry’s evolution. 

The best part of this museum is how interactive it is. Visitors can play classic arcade games like Pac-Man and Space Invaders or play Oregon Trail on an old Vic 20 computer. Our kids had a blast trying out all the old game consoles and we loved the opportunity to relive childhood memories and introduce our kids to the games that defined an era.

Our favorite part was playing 80’s games in an 80’s environment. An 80’s boy’s room, complete with Duran Duran posters served as the backdrop for a game of Duck Hunt, and you were able to sit on the couch in an 80’s living room, with a giant box of a TV and wood paneling, playing Burger Time on a game console so old, even I didn’t recognize it.

At Traintopia, we got to explore one of the most detailed model train exhibits I’ve ever seen. Taking up an entire room, multiple different train lines criss cross across an incredibly realistic landscape spanning from the mountains of Colorado through Arizona and New Mexico, before crossing into Texas and ending in an animated downtown Dallas, complete with changing traffic lights.

The lighting changes throughout, mimicking daylight, dusk, sunset, night, and sunrise, and the roads and buildings light up at night.

Make sure to pick up a scavenger hunt, which forces you to look even more closely at each part of the exhibit, giving you the opportunity you to notice things you might otherwise overlook. The museum offers two different scavenger hunts, one for older kids and one for younger kids, so all ages can participate.

Museum of the American Railroad

While technically part of Traintopia, the Museum of the American Railroad requires a separate ticket (although you can buy a combo ticket). The Museum of the American Railroad consists of a walking tour among a collection of old rail cars on real train tracks.

You’ll have the opportunity to see the largest steam engine, largest diesel engine, and explore the inside of an old Pulham sleeper train, as well as a more recent Amtrak train. History buffs and train aficionados will enjoy seeing these little pieces of history frozen in time.

National Soccer Hall of Fame

If you’re not a soccer fan, you may be tempted to skip this one but I’m here to tell you – don’t. The National Soccer Hall of Fame is full of interactive exhibits that will appeal to soccer fans and non fans alike.

When you first enter, you’re prompted to create a profile, which includes your picture. The museum uses facial recognition software to log you in to various interactive experiences throughout the museum, allowing you to track your stats and look back on your activity.

Visitors can test their skills kicking, dribbling, and heading in a virtual exhibit where you actually kick, dribble, and head a virtual soccer ball. Learn from some of the best goalies in history in a virtual reality exhibit that trains you on blocking goals before entering you into a simulation replicating some famous saves, challenging you to mimic the goalies’ moves. 

The museum also houses a vast collection of artifacts, including jerseys, trophies, and historical documents, that chronicle the evolution of soccer in the United States. From the inaugural World Cup team to iconic moments in Major League Soccer (MLS) history, the exhibits offer a comprehensive look at the milestones and pivotal events that have shaped American soccer.

Frisco Roughriders

If you’re visiting Frisco, you’ll want to make sure to check the Rough Rider’s schedule for a chance to watch this minor league team in a memorable stadium.

Watch the game from a comfortable suite stadium seating or even from a lazy river. You heard that right. On select nights, fans can purchase a ticket that allows them to grab a float and enjoy the lazy river while watching the game.

Families with kids can take advantage of this opportunity on Sundays while Thursdays are reserved for 21 and up. During the rest of the week, the lazy river can be reserved for groups.

In addition to the lazy river, there are plenty of other kid friendly amenities at the stadium. Kids can-enjoy a full playground and even bounce houses.

The Star – Dallas Cowboys Headquarters

 The Star proudly serves as the home of the Dallas Cowboys, one of the most storied franchises in the NFL. Football enthusiasts can take a guided tour of the iconic facilities, including the practice fields. If you’re lucky, you might catch  a glimpse of your favorite player, though you’ll get strict instructions not to engage.

Throughout the tour you’ll be taken on a journey through the Cowboy’s history from when they first became a team until today. You’ll get to tour the Ford Center, the War Room, Nike Star Walk, and more. See the evolution of the Cowboys’ uniform and logo, and even see all five championship rings up close and personal.

Limestone Quarry Park

Limestone Quarry Park is an unassuming park nestled in the heart of Frisco. The park features the usual playground, basketball court, and fields, but the true gem can be found by taking an unmarked dirt path through the trees, past the playground and past the walking trails.

This nondescript little path opens up to an absolutely breathtaking, crystal clear creek. The shallow creek is perfect for wading. We walked along the creek, and even found a beautiful waterfall.

The limestone bottom that helps keep the creek so clear can also be very slippery, so water shoes are recommended.

Hope Park Playground For All Abilities 

This expansive park features two huge play structures, one for little kids and one for bigger kids. The little kids’ play structure features kid-size buildings that make up a small town and farm. There is a school house and a barn, and even a train shaped play structure on a painted track. The other side of the playground features a rambling fort-like structure, complete with a tree house and climbing wall.

We didn’t get a chance to explore the play areas as much as we wanted to because it was so hot, but we’ll definitely visit again. Instead, we headed for the splash pad, which has a covered area that was perfect for the adults to hang out while the kids splashed around.

Frisco Rail District

The perfect destination for shopping and dining, the Frisco Rail District is Frisco’s historic district. Here you’ll find cute little boutiques, cafes, coffee shops, and some incredible murals.

You’ll also find the Tumbleweed TexStyles flagship store. You’ve probably seen their Texas apparel at stores like Buc-ees and other Texas retailers, and if you’re visiting Frisco, Texas, you can visit their flagship store.

The store is fun to check out because it’s adorably decorated and highly Instagrammable. Plus they’ve got all sorts of cute Frisco and Texas apparel and home goods.

Texas Sculpture Garden

Texas’ largest public sculpture garden, named quite simply, the Texas Sculpture Garden, is free to enter, and a beautiful place to wander around. Here, you’ll find beautifully maintained landscaping surrounding some unique sculptures by artists from across Texas. 

Frisco Heritage Museum

The Frisco Heritage Museum is dedicated to showcasing the rich history of the Frisco area. The museum consists of both indoor and outdoor exhibits. Inside, you’ll find a covered wagon, early Ford Model T’s, and plenty of information on the early days of Frisco history. 

There’s even an interactive map where you can pull up pictures of historic Frisco locations and swipe to see what stands there today.

Another interactive exhibit lets you design your own cowgirl, outfit and all, and test your understanding of cowboy lingo.

Outside, you’ll find some historic buildings, like a calaboose (an outdoor jail), an old house staged with period furniture, an old church, and more.

L is for Live Music

M is for Main Street

Main Street is the foundation of Frisco’s historic downtown. Visit Main Street for the farmer’s market, local eateries, wineries and bars, and boutiques and coffee shops.

O is for Outdoors

Frisco has dozens of neighborhood parks and trails across the city for children and families to enjoy. Learn more about the parks closest to you.

Hope Park at Frisco Commons is an inclusive park built for children with all abilities. The playground has rubberized footing, a sensory area, adaptive playground equipment, a picnicking area, areas divided for the younger and older children and a spray park. 8000 McKinney Road, Frisco.

Ruff Range Dog Park has separate areas for small dogs and large dogs and comes equipped with a water fountain. 5335 4th Army Memorial Drive.

Frisco’s Skate Park is the largest in North Texas at 47,000 square feet. If you have children learning how to skate, rollerblade, scooter or cycle, this is a good place for them to learn. 2895 Honey Grove Drive.

P is for PlayFrisco

Play Frisco is the city’s park and recreation department — one of just 115 cities nationwide to be accredited by the National Recreation and Park Association. The department is also a three-time winner of the Texas Recreation and Parks Society Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Parks and Recreation Management.

The department maintains all neighborhood parks and trails, the Frisco Athletic Center, The Grove at Frisco Square, the Frisco Discovery Center, The Frisco Heritage Center and the public arts program, hosting several events throughout the year.

Frisco’s historic downtown has been rebranded as the “Rail District,” commemorating the historical connection to the American railroad system that the city was founded on.

W is for the Water Tower

The historic water tower has become the most recognizable symbol for the city of Frisco. Find it in Frisco’s historic downtown near Main and Elm streets.

The city offers many opportunities to make the city “Your Frisco.” Play Frisco allows you to make suggestions for park names, facility names and biking trails. It also requests the input of the community for proposed park plans.

Additionally, students can design the poster for Arts in the Square, while residents vote on their favorite for the event. Artists can have their art displayed in the municipal center.

Z is for Zoning

Properties across Frisco are being rezoned from agricultural land to mixed-use development and commercial land. One of the biggest new zoning changes is the Fields property, a 2,500-acre mixed-use development, that will be home to the new PGA Headquarters and several retail shops, restaurants and homes.

This Texas City Is Having a Moment — and It's Home to Universal's Upcoming Theme Park

The Dallas suburb of Frisco is already packed with fun things to do — what to know.

With news that Universal Parks & Resorts is planning its first theme park outside of Florida or California in Frisco, Texas, many people are planning their first visit to this booming Dallas suburb. Even before Universal announced its latest project, Frisco was already among the fastest-growing cities in the U.S., serving as a commuter city for professionals in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. 

But the city’s small railroad-town charm (Frisco was named for an 1800s rail line), combined with some major coups in attracting various sporting institutions and tech startups over the past decade, give Frisco a distinctly trendy and fun-loving vibe.

Here’s a primer on what to do, where to stay, and where to eat when you visit Frisco, Texas. 

Things to Do in Frisco, Texas

Experience life as a dallas cowboy..

Frisco won the hearts of Dallas Cowboys fans in 2016 with its stunning 91-acre practice facility called The Star , complete with Ford Center, which is shared by the Cowboys as well as local high schools, who get the chance to compete on the same hallowed field. Outside Ford Center, you’ll see Tostitos Championship Plaza, a place for the public to gather for special outdoor events like concerts, football game watch parties, and more. 

Guided tours of The Star , which give you a peek behind the scenes of Cowboys life, include stops at Ford Center; the “War Room” where owner Jerry Jones presides on Draft Day; and displays dedicated to history-making moments such as Roger Staubach’s original 1975 “Hail Mary” pass to win a playoff game.

Shop and dine in the "$5 Billion Mile."

The Star is the crown jewel of what’s called the “$5 Billion Mile,” a development that includes shopping, restaurants, and hotels throughout Frisco, including Snowbird Cocktail Lounge & Kitchen for creative bites and drinks and The Glen & The Monarch , a locally owned seafood restaurant with a neighboring scotch and cigar bar.

Get the kids employed at KidZania.

Less than two miles away at Stonebriar Centre shopping mall, you’ll find the Frisco branch of international children’s attraction KidZania , which opened its first (and to date, only) North American location in Frisco in late 2018. Filled with super interactive stations that aim to let kids experience different careers, earning money (and yes, even paying taxes) in their own kid-themed “city,” it’s a truly novel concept that is particularly well suited for elementary-age kids.

Play Frogger at the National Videogame Museum.

The National Videogame Museum is a trip through time for those old enough to remember wood-paneled rec rooms outfitted with Atari and Intellivision game systems (Burger Time, anyone?) as well as more modern-day Nintendo systems. An arcade stocked with vintage games is a fun way to spend a few hours steeped in nostalgia.

And then play video games at the table at Nerdvana.

Level up your visit by heading to Nerdvana , a casual restaurant with a game-themed menu of meals and cocktails. The best part is that you can select a console and play video games right at your booth, or select from a menu of board games.

Make your own soccer kit at the National Soccer Hall of Fame.

The National Soccer Hall of Fame opened its headquarters in Frisco in Toyota Stadium (home of FC Dallas) in 2018 and features inductees since its beginning in 1979. There are also interactive exhibits allowing you to create your own national soccer team, design your own uniform, and even create and take home a scarf.

Enjoy good old-fashioned Texas barbecue.

If you’re new to Texas, you’ll have to make your way to the pit for a traditional Lone Star welcome. Luckily, you won’t have to venture far: Hutchins BBQ in Frisco earns high marks for its brisket, smoked turkey breast, and pork ribs, plus its signature dish, the Texas Twinkie: a jalapeño pepper filled with brisket and cream cheese, with a crisp slice of bacon wrapped around it.

Splash around in the outfield during a summer ballgame.

During baseball season, head to Riders Field (formerly known as Dr. Pepper Ballpark), a Minor League stadium that’s home to the Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A affiliate team of the Texas Raiders. The team celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Strangely enough, the stadium boasts a 3,000-square-foot lazy river at the ballpark’s right field — a refreshing place to take in a game on a hot summer day.

If you want to stay near all the action at The Star, a great option is the Omni Frisco , which is connected to Ford Center and overlooks Tostitos Championship Plaza. The Charlotte Jones Collection gift shop offers items curated by the Cowboys’ executive vice president and chief brand officer (and Jerry Jones’ daughter).

Golf fans should tee up a stay at the brand-new Omni PGA Resort , which opens in May. This 660-acre resort will serve as the headquarters of PGA of America and will feature two 18-hole championship golf courses, a two-acre putting course, and a 10-hole short course, in addition to 500 hotel rooms and suites, 10 ranch houses, and an entertainment district.

Westin Stonebriar Golf Resort & Spa

A great family-friendly option is the Westin Stonebriar Golf Resort & Spa , which was renovated in 2020 and includes an on-site spa, an outdoor pool with a waterslide and an outdoor bar, a Westin Family Kids Club, and a Topgolf Swing Suite.

Hyatt Regency Frisco

The Hyatt Regency Frisco opened in 2020 and is connected to the Stonebriar Centre mall. On-site restaurants include Copper & Steel Table & Bar, as well as poolside food and beverages. Because of its proximity to the mall, suite guests may choose to book a Nordstrom personal shopping experience inside their suite. 

How to Get to Frisco, Texas

If you’re flying to Texas, the closest major airport is Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). Frisco is located about 30 minutes northeast of DFW. Car rental and shuttle services are available, as well as rideshare services, which average $50 for a one-way ride from the airport to downtown Frisco. The Trinity Metro TEXRail offers routes to nearby Grapevine, Irving, Dallas, and Fort Worth — not to Frisco, but occasionally travelers have had success hailing rides from Grapevine instead of waiting at the airport.

What is Frisco Texas best known for?

Not only is it home to the Dallas Cowboys’ training facility at The Star and talks with Universal Studios to open a park close to Prosper but with the recent addition of PGA America moving their headquarters to Frisco, the city is again firmly taking its place as one of the entertainment and sports capitals of North Texas.

Frisco is known for many things, not least some of the area’s best neighborhoods and schools, but shopping, a vibrant restaurant scene, and family fun are all available in abundance.

Is Frisco worth a visit?

Yes. Just north of Dallas and across the border from Plano, Prosper, Lewisville, McKinney, and Allen, it’s easy to get to via the Dallas North Tollway and the 121, or the infamous 380 (beware of the endless construction!)

While you’re on a shopping trip inside Stonebriar Mall, be sure to check out Kidzania – a Texas’ sized mini-city for kids, run by kids. If you want to combine a meal with a fun venue to play board and video games to your heart’s content, you need to check out Nerdvana , near Frisco Square.

Bowling and Arcades are also plentiful things to do in Frisco: especially the old-style decor at Strikz and Main Event Frisco, and the multi-level Dave and Buster’s.

See and enjoy Live Sports

The home of Major League Soccer FC Dallas at the Toyota Stadium and the Frisco Roughriders at the Dr Pepper Ballpark, seeing live soccer and minor league baseball are within reach, as is a unique experience of a tour of the famous Dallas Cowboys training facility at The Star complex. You should not miss the really awesome National Soccer Hall of Fame if you visit the FC Dallas facility!

Get outside in Frisco: Visit Frisco Parks and Play areas

Limestone Quarry is a favorite best-kept secret that has it all: swings, slides, trees, and covered pavilions. Be sure to go past the play area and down an unmarked path that leads to an Oasis, flanked by rocks and beautiful clear water to swim in.

In the Summer, between Memorial Day and Labor Day, the Frisco Water Park at Frisco Athletic Center is a great place to enjoy some outdoor water fun

For younger kids, a great place to take them is the Hope Park play area inside Frisco Commons. In the Summer, enjoy the Splash pad next to it too!

They have cute walking trails surrounded by large trees and a fishing pond, which is rumored to have turtles in it! Take a picnic, enjoy the sunset, and kick back and relax.

Why do people want to move to Frisco TX?

If you’re looking for somewhere to live, there are pockets of undeveloped land and new housing developments still going up, but it’s getting far closer to building out than it was even 5 years ago.

With great job prospects and proximity to the Dallas Metroplex, you can probably find good job prospects within a 30-minute drive of home, whether it’s in Frisco itself or further North or South of Frisco.

The choice of great public and private schools is a huge pull toward Frisco, but house pricing is probably not too different than the cities further South if that’s a big factor in your decision.

Many West Coast and Northeast-based corporates have been moving their headquarters to North Plano and the Frisco area, as the availability of skilled labor is plentiful and the cost of living still fairly accessible for many employees.
