Firstly I started by trying to piece this trip together myself, making my own bookings, based on suggested itineraries from some of the big tour companies here in the UK like Cox & Kings; Audley Travel, etc. I have used these companies myself before, but both their group and private tours were just too expensive for us this time around.

Our trip (end Nov & beginning Dec 2014) started out as just myself and my wife, but then two sets of relatives in New Zealand decided they might like to join us (but not for all the same dates) and then our son, currently studying in Australia, decided that he could leave early for Christmas and join us for some time... So the trip became slightly more complicated with different hotel room requirements, flight times and trip durations! :-)

So I prepared a few paragraphs to cover these; the things we wanted to see; the places we wanted to go to and what interests each of our group from a 20 year old all the way up to a couple in their late fifties have!

I then prepared a list of tour companies to send that to. Some of it was recommendations I'd read on here; some from guide books such as Lonely Planet, Rough Guide, etc. and some used before by friends.

I emailed the requirements all at the same time one Saturday night (which would be early Sunday morning Vietnam time). The companies I’d contacted were;

- Ann Tours

- Kim Travel

- Grandeur Journeys

- Exotissimo

- Buffalo Tours

- Vietnam Sunshine Travel

- Asia View Travel

- Active Asia

With hindsight that was probably too many but at the time I wasn't sure who all would respond.

Let’s get the failures or no shows out of the way first. Grandeur Journeys and Vietnam Sunshine Travel never responded and we're now 3 weeks past me sending out our requirements. Kim Travel just sent me an email on the Monday saying, please pick a tour from our website!

The others all sent *very* detailed itineraries. First to respond was Asia View - on the Sunday afternoon! There had obviously been some thought put into their itineraries - it wasn't just a repeat of what I'd asked for. All the suggested hotels and excursions had favourable reviews on here. They provided a fully costed trip with the first proposal. Throughout this exercise their quote was consistently the cheapest by $2-300 per person. I requested some revisions to the order and some of the excursions and queried whether the hotel in Saigon was the best they could suggest. They came back very quickly with a revised priced proposal. They suggested an alternative hotel but equally re-affirmed why they had proposed the one they had but left it to me to decide. I liked their approach. Asia Views quote was a total price per person in USD.

Next to respond were Exotissimo on the Monday. They gave an outline of the trip, with places and excursions for us to review and offered to work that up if we were interested. They also offered a Skype call sometime to go over the detail. I made some revisions and they came back with a very detailed proposal very similar to Asia View but with a few more excursions and probably slightly more up market hotel rooms. Consequently their quote was a bit more expensive that Asia View’s. They broke their price down to three cost groups; excursions; hotels and (internal) flights . Following this we had some further discussions before a further proposal and quote. For example we discussed the merits of a homestay or hotel in the Mekong Delta . Again they were very helpful in answering questions and explaining why they had proposed certain things.

Active Asia provided a very detailed proposal with every item costed per person – even down to airport to hotel pick-ups. They had suggested varying standards (3* and 4*) of accommodation in each city and because of that and the level of detail we were able to pick and choose and arrive at a final proposal pretty quickly.

Next to quote was Ann Tours. Their initial email on the Monday had a very detailed itinerary with tours, suggested hotels, etc. Once happy with the proposal they would cost it up. That came back very quickly that week and was again a detailed quote with price per person listed for every single excursion; flight and hotel room. They were the most expensive overall.

Finally I had a call from Buffalo Tours here in the UK on the Monday – I didn’t appreciate they had a UK office. I’d contacted the Hanoi office. They were very helpful and had provided us with a fully costed proposal by the Tuesday. (By the end of the first week – the Friday – I had everyone’s final quote, expect Exitissimo which arrived on the following Monday).

Everyone’s quote was in USD except Buffalo Tours which quoted in GBP. For us here in the UK their proposal and prices were very attractive but the exchange rate between us and NZD meant they became the most expensive for my Kiwi relatives.

I contacted each tour company after each quote to explain it would take a day or two before I’d get back to them . Other than Buffalo Tours, who’ve phone three times, the rest have left me to make our decisions.

I won’t state which company we finally went with (it was actually split over two of the above) but hopefully the above information (sorry its’ so long) will be helpful to others. All of those who responded and provided quotes were extremely helpful and obviously very knowledgeable across all the locations.

What month is "spring"? The weather plays a big part on where you should go.

If you can decide what you want to see, its fairly easy (with the help of this forum) to get where you want to go and use local agents to get you booked on day tours. Hotels will ofte help with bookings and transport and have a good local knowledge of what's good and what's not.

3-4 days in each location is considered by most the best way.

'Dont fall into the trap of thinking the numbers on tours are limited and you need to book and pay months in advance. You will also save as much as 50%.

You have time on your side.

Hello Ben Tre

vietnam tour companies tripadvisor

Hi Beachlover86

I will need to do more research on how to get from one location to the next.

===============================================================

Feb March weather is best in the south, usually about 28-30c everyday with mainly blue skies.

I book them a few days in advance. Morning and early evening flights often sell out first.

For short distances, the best way is in limousine vans. Mercedes and Ford vans with a luxury seating. They are a bit quicker than normal buses and cost around $20-$30 .

Hotels will usually organise a car a driver for you, or you can ask a travel agent. Agents are found in all tourist areas.

Another way, is to find out where the bus station is in any town. They are usually quite large and you can look at the type of bus they are offering. Because Vietnamese are not a car owning population, their bus network is very extensive. But I would advise against the overnight sleeper buses as they have a poor safety record.

I think March will be better.

Hello, thank you for your reply and advice and I would love your itinerary and your agent's info please:)

I'm not allowed to give contact details on this forum but you should look me up. I can assure you will find it worth your while.

Even with no booking I would be happy to look at your plans and give advice.

I also looked At Threeland, Haivenu, and Footprints. I have decided to go with Threeland because the tours were identical but Threeland was at least $300/person cheaper. They have been very easy to work with. I'm going this November. Tell them that Marisa K sent you!

Just give you our experience & maybe another option

Enjoy your trip to vietnam soon

vietnam tour companies tripadvisor

We also looked at packages from Haivenu but chose an offer from Passion Asia that was significantly less expensive. Don't know if it will be as good as we hope - we are leaving in October. But so far they have been very responsive and accomodating about altering the set itinerary to suit our requests.

vietnam tour companies tripadvisor

I've travelled with haivenu for 14 days last year. It's such a memorable tours, really impressive and more than expected. On the way I heard so many things about vietnam travel agencie. Trust me, don't value a tour by money to waste your time. Cheaper that doesn't mean equal quality, you just see something visible they offer but you cannot see something invisible which happen to you on the way. Once again don't look for saving small amount of money to get unsatisfied tour.

Hope you have a good trip in Vietnam.

How was your trip? We are considering a trip through 3land and would appreciate any feedback - thanks.

Explore the magic of Halong Bay with the best Vietnam tour packages. Wake up to a watercolour painting of misty karst formations, a unique adventure included in top-notch Vietnam tour packages.

Vietnam's vibrant street life as motorbikes weave through a chaotic yet functional dance, carrying people, goods, and animals. Enjoy the spectacle from a rooftop café while sipping strong Vietnamese coffee.

Mekong Delta

The friendliest people on earth live in this vast region of floating markets, emerald rice paddies, and lush islands. To get a first-hand look at Delta life and meet the locals, take a boat trip to one of the sleepy islands.

See the vibrant villages of Vietnam's minority tribes, the Zay and the Blue and Black H'mong, by traveling to the highlands. Due to the area's isolation, an overnight hike where you stay with a local family is the best way to experience it.

Quiet Qui Nhon is a peaceful seaside hamlet that is off the beaten path for tourists. Even the trip here is worthwhile. Rice fields and sugar plantations gradually take the place of islands, lagoons, and sand dunes as the road follows granite cliffs that drop into the South China Sea.

Hue is a city for history aficionados since it is crammed with imperial sites. Prior to channeling your inner emperor and having a dragonboat journey down the Perfume River, explore the Citadel and its abandoned Forbidden Purple City.

More boot manufacturers, tailors, and artisans call this shopping haven home than you could possibly visit in a lifetime. Hire a bicycle and tour the Old Town while you wait for your suit to be constructed; the streets are gloriously car-free.

Ho Chi Minh City

Most people still refer to HCMC as Saigon, and it is a busy metropolis. It moves quickly, is thrilling, and has wonderful sights. Skyscrapers, cathedrals, and marketplaces all coexist in a heady mingling of traditional, colonial, and modern architecture.

The hustle and bustle of Hanoi seems a million miles away in Mai Chau. The tranquil atmosphere is aided by misty mountains and verdant rice fields. Be sure to keep an eye out for the traditional textiles produced by the local White Thais population.

In the "honeymoon capital" of Vietnam, spring lasts all year long. Discover the eccentric local artists, take in the French-inspired ambiance, and explore the nearby lakes, waterfalls, and woods. It's fantastic!

History with Vietnam tour operator

The country that is now Vietnam has been inhabited since the beginning of time. According to archaeological discoveries, organised communities started to emerge as early as the first millennium BC. Up to the Chinese invasion in 111 BC, which caused the civilizations of Vietnam and China to converge, early society was mostly focused on agriculture and feudalism, with numerous dynasties ruling over different regions of Vietnam. For hundreds of years, the region was ruled by several Chinese dynasties, but in 905, the Vietnamese gained independence as a result of uprisings. Vietnam entered an era of independence in 938, marking the end of this period of Chinese imperial rule.

Following the Sino-French War of 1884 and 1885, French colonists gained control of Vietnam and began to influence it during the 19th century. French Indochina, which encompassed portions of Vietnam, Cambodia, and subsequently, Laos, was created in 1887. Even though the French were able to stifle domestic liberation aspirations for a long time, their rule was eventually overthrown in 1954 when Vietnamese troops defeated the French during the first Indochina War. Vietnam was split after this conflict, with distinct troops controlling the north (headed by Ho Chi Minh) and the south (led by Ngo Dinh Diem, with support from the United States).

The second Indochina War caused widespread destruction and upheaval for the Vietnamese people, and as a result, a large number of individuals left Vietnam in search of sanctuary in other parts of the world. The Socialist Republic of Vietnam was created in July 1976 following the country's reunification in April 1975. Vietnam has lately profited from the free market economy that was established in 1986. Vietnam's economy is still growing, with agriculture and industry serving as the foundation and the tourist industry also making a contribution. Economic, educational, and health conditions have all significantly improved recently, and perhaps they will do so in the years ahead.

Geography and Invironment in Vietnam - Vietnam local tour operator

Vietnam, which is located on the long, narrow Indochinese peninsula, borders China, Laos, and Cambodia. The north and central highlands of Vietnam, in particular, include a lot of rugged terrain. Amidst this, Vietnam's local tour operators provide unparalleled experiences, catering to travelers' interests across diverse regions. The majority of Vietnam's population is concentrated in the cities of the low lying areas, where infrastructure is more easily created and the land is productive, despite the fact that some people still opt to live in the heavily wooded highland regions. The Mekong, one of the world's great twelve rivers, flows through Vietnam and has been the cause of extensive floods. During monsoons, a network of canals and levees has been very effective at transferring water, which has reduced flooding in the Mekong Delta and other areas.

Shopping in Vietnam with Vietnam local tour operator

Vietnamese marketplaces and tiny businesses are a good mix of the intriguing; the finest choices include handicrafts, art, and clothes. For travelers seeking to explore these vibrant markets and support local artisans, Vietnam local tour operators provide invaluable insights and curated experiences, ensuring an enriching journey through the country's cultural treasures.

1. Tailored Clothing

One of the greatest destinations in the world to find high-quality custom apparel is Hoi An. Locate a tailor, select your fabric, get measured, then come back later to pick up your bespoke clothing.

2. Hilltribe Handicrafts

Some of the Vietnamese hilltribe people weave beautiful clothing, jewelry, and bags that make thoughtful gifts for family and friends back home.

Vietnamese coffee is among the best in the world, and it comes from one of the biggest exporters in the world. Why not bring a little bit of Vietnam home with you if you enjoy coffee?

4. Lacquerware

The time consuming, intensive process of creating Vietnamese lacquer art results in a beautiful, smooth and polished finish that adorns everything from bowls to paintings and jewellery boxes. While not the cheapest of souvenirs, authentic lacquer art is worth spending a bit more on.

Vietnam culture and customs tour - Vietnam tour operators

Vietnam's old culture dates back many centuries and has been impacted by the Chinese, Khmer, French, and American civilizations over time in various ways. Whether they come from remote villages or live in bustling metropolis, family and community ties are important to the majority of Vietnamese people. Most festivals and holidays are spent with the extended family, when rituals are performed, special dishes are consumed, presents are exchanged, and ancestors are honored. There are many devout Catholics in Vietnam, but the majority of the population follows a religion that is an unusual fusion of Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism. Most Vietnamese people are eager to move on with their lives and live with a sense of optimism and humility as a result of having experienced the hardship that the Vietnam War brought in the 1960s and 1970s. Vietnam tour operators offer immersive experiences to witness these rituals, savor special dishes, exchange gifts, and honor ancestors.
