Fact: In my entire life, I’ve only cried once at a tourist attraction.

And judge me all you want, but this cryfest happened at a Harry Potter studio tour.

… Allow me to explain myself.

Like most children born in the 90s, much of my youth was spent daydreaming about the arrival of my Hogwart’s acceptance letter. As this dream dwindled with the hardships of adulting, I instead took comfort in carbs and magical movie marathons.

But, it didn’t take much for these childhood dreams to resurface. A trip to London was all it took to re-open the floodgates (literally).

Let me tell you: for a Harry Potter fan, there is no attraction on this Earth more overwhelming and amazing than the  Warner Bros Studio Tour London, (AKA London’s Harry Potter set tour), which brings you through the filming site for all 8 movies in the Harry Potter franchise.

In addition to sets, you’re also shown countless props, the best gift shop in the world, and even a chance to taste butter beer for yourself. Come on now, is it at all a surprise that I bawled when I got to the end?

Read onwards for important info to know about the tour, some tips to keep in mind and of course, a recap of the experience (with plenty of photos!) Be careful for this section, as spoilers are abound!

Basic information to know about the Harry Potter Set Tour

If you’re interested in booking the epic Warner Bros Studio Tour in London for yourself, then here are some basic must-knows.

Harry Potter Studio Tour Tickets Info:

I first visited this attraction in 2014 and it was a hot mess then, and has only grown in popularity in the past few years.

If this Harry Potter set tour is a must-do for you, then make sure you book your tickets WELL in advance or you risk not being able to go!

Luckily, even when tickets are sold out on the main site, there are tours you can book online that will have tickets available for sold out dates.

Sometimes, booking with a tour is worthwhile because you not only guarantee your tickets, you also get the convenience of private transport there, which is nice and much less stressful than using public transport yourself.

Here is a breakdown of different Harry Potter Studio tour options that include transport. For your convenience, I also lay out their costs and what they have to offer:

Tickets can also be purchased online from the studio itself  here.

How to Get to the Warner Bros Studio Tour in London:

Despite its name, the Warner Bros Studio London is actually located in Leavesden, which is northwest of London.

While booking a tour/private transport is the easiest and most convenient way to get there, it is still quite painless to reach via public transit, as a shuttle bus runs from Watford Junction railway station.

To get to the Watford Junction station, you need to make use of London’s overground system.

Not sure about the best route to get there? Check out this handy trip planner .  The tour’s website recommends that you arrive at Watford Junction 45 minutes prior to your tour time.

Remember to bring change, as the cost for the shuttle bus is 2 pounds each way.

NOTE : Leave a lot of leeway for you to get there. We definitely got lost a few times due to the transfers, and were stressed to the max! For a more stress-free experience, consider prebooking a tour that comes with transport. Here’s one for under $100USD.

Tips for Doing the Harry Potter Set Tour Like a Pro

Having addressed the basics, here are some tips you should keep in mind when planning your visit:

1. Check on the Warner Bros Studio Tour website for special events

The studio tour often has special weeks during which there are specialized displays or demonstrations.

If you have quite some time in London, I suggest looking up when special events are happening and to plan accordingly.

I was luckily around for the beginning of Wand Week, so I got to see wandmakers do their thing and I even got to pose with some Death Eaters. Super cool!

2. Allow extra time for travel

Especially if you are new to London, trying to navigate the transit there can take time, so give yourself plenty of time to arrive at the studio.

That being said, do not hyperventilate if your ticketed time is fast approaching. While the reservation system does assign you a time, they won’t turn you away if you are a bit late.

warner brothers tour harry potter

3. Don’t forget to print your Warner Bros Studio Tour ticket

This will make the whole process smoother.

One girl that came with us didn’t print hers and upon arrival, she realized that her order never actually went through.

Luckily, even though they claim there is no box office at the attraction, she was able to purchase a ticket there, but do book in advance to save yourself the trouble.

4. Set yourself a budget for magical souvenirs

Trust me, when you enter the Harry Potter Studio Tour Shop for the first time, you will lose all sense of self control.

You will suddenly want all these things that you would never need.

Legit wizard robe? Okay!

Replica wand? Yes please.

There are so many amazingly crafted souvenirs for sale that you will easily empty your wallet.

For budget-conscious backpackers (like me) or large families with crying children, setting a budget beforehand is a must.

5. Grab yourself a free Warner Bros Studio Tour London passport

At some point during the tour, you might notice children getting awesome embossed stamps on a Harry Potter passport.

Uh, yeah, those are actually not just for kids!

I shamelessly (and sweetly) asked a staff member for one, and they kindly obliged.

Getting the stamps is fun and having a Harry Potter passport is pretty much the best souvenir ever.

6. Be sure to check out other Harry Potter filming locations around the UK too

If you’ve made it all the way to Leavesden, you’re actually pretty close to a variety of other Harry Potter filming locations!

While this set tour is of course incredible, there are dozens of other real-life filming locations scattered around the UK that you can visit for yourself. Click here for a full list.

Harry Potter Set Tour Recap with Photos

With those tips out of the way, I’d love to show you some photos and a brief overview of the experience from my visit in 2014. Note that they have added a lot since then, but still…

WARNING: spoilers, spoilers, spoilers.

Some would say that the best way to experience this tour is by seeing everything first hand, but if you are curious to see photos and more, feel free to scroll further.

Your magical experience begins as soon as you walk into the building. All around the lobby are canvases with various Harry Potter characters, as well as props and other cool artifacts hanging off the walls.

Even the task of waiting in line (typically the most mundane thing ever) is a joy for this tour.

The queue moves very quickly and there is plenty for you to nerd out about as you wait.

Most notably, Harry’s  cupboard under the stairs , is right next to the queuing area, ensuring that you get a perfect view of this iconic set.

warner brothers tour harry potter

You’ll notice that groups are taken in based on their spot in line, rather than their timed reservation.

This is why there is some flexibility when it comes to your arrival time.

If you’re a few minutes late, no worries, just hop in the queue and you will make it in all-the-same.

The tour begins with a brief video introduction to the franchise, followed by a preshow featuring Rupert, Daniel and Emma themselves.

As this preshow concludes, the screen reveals the doors to the  Great Hall!  During my tour, they invited any birthday kids to come up and help open the doors.

After  seriously  wishing it was my birthday, I bitterly watched two ecstatic kids live out their childhood dreams, revealing the first stop of the tour, the amazing…

1. Great Hall!

This is the the only part of the tour where your time will be limited, as they let tour groups in every few minutes.

As such, if you want photos, be sure to snap them  quickly !

Being in this room is an unreal feeling. In addition to the long tables, cutlery and elaborate set pieces, you also get to view costumes from students in each house, and important Hogwarts faculty as well!

warner brothers tour harry potter

2. The Big Room

After your time in the Great Hall, you are brought into the  Big Room , which houses a variety of sets, props and costumes.

Here, you are given free reign to explore for yourself and gawk at all the amazing pieces the room contains!

Highlights for me were definitely the  Potions classroom  (complete with a Snape costume on display),  the Gryffindor Common Room  and  the Weasley House .

warner brothers tour harry potter

Many of the sets also have interactive buttons where you can make objects move by pressing them.

This was especially cool in the Weasley kitchen, where the touch of a button could make an iron move on its own, make vegetables chop themselves, etc. Super neat!

warner brothers tour harry potter

For those seeking a sweet photo opp, there are several green screen opportunities to ride a broom as a Quidditch player and more! I didn’t wait in line for this bit, but it definitely looked like a lot of fun! Here are some photos from the Big Room:

warner brothers tour harry potter

3. The Backlot

After perusing the Big Room, you are brought outside to the  Backlot , home to a variety of sets including Harry’s  Privet Drive home , the  Hogwarts Bridge , the  Knight Bus  and of course,  the concession stands!

It’s at this point in the tour that you can live out your childhood fantasy of sipping a nice, cold  butterbeer.

warner brothers tour harry potter

Be sure to explore the bridge before you purchase a butterbeer, as no food or drink is allowed on that set.

warner brothers tour harry potter

Now, while public opinion seems to be split on the taste of butterbeer, I have to say that  I. loved. every. single. sip.

It’s very possible that I was blinded by the magic of my surroundings, but I would argue that it’s worth a try regardless!

NOTE: If you want to purchase a souvenir cup, remember to bring a bag or something to wrap it in, as that stuff can get mighty sticky. Here’s a sample of the cool things you’ll see in the backlot!

warner brothers tour harry potter

4. Art Department, Creature Effects and Diagon Alley

When you’re ready to go back inside, countless wonders from the  creature effects & art department  await you. Here, you really get to appreciate the depth of work put into creating a whole magical world.

I was really wowed by everything.

warner brothers tour harry potter

In this area, you will see masks, wigs, models and more of your favourite magical creatures.

In this second half of the tour as well, you get to walk through Diagon Alley. The details and work in the set will absolutely blow you away. The shops look so real, you’ll be tempted to go knocking on their doors.

warner brothers tour harry potter

5. Hogwarts Castle Model

And lastly, the grand finale of the Harry Potter set tour… The model of Hogwarts!

This one here is a real showstopper.

A walkway surrounding the model allows you to view it from all angles, taking in the fine details of this wonderful school.

For many Harry Potter fans, seeing the castle like this is a dream come true. Now, if only it were real!

warner brothers tour harry potter

At the end of the tour, just before the entrance of the Harry Potter Studio Tour Shop, you will see this wonderfully beautiful quote appear on the screen:

warner brothers tour harry potter

It was at this point that  I began to bawl.  I couldn’t help it!

Everything that I loved about the series had been shown to me in the past few hours, and for that short period of time, I got to live out my dream of seeing the magical world that made my childhood.

Messy and gross, I walked into the gift shop, which was a massive treasure trove of things you never knew you wanted or needed. Wands for every character? I’ll take 100.

And there you have it,  the most magical experience ever . One day, I  will   visit the Wonderful Wizarding World of Harry Potter, but until then, I think this tour has given me enough happy & geeky memories to last. …. At least for the next little while.

Any more questions about visiting the Warner Bros Studio Tour in London?

Over to you – have you ever been to the Warner Bros Studio Tour in London? IF NOT, THEN WTF ARE YOU WAITING FOR? No jk, uh I meant to ask, which part would you most look forward to?!

Enjoyed every bit of your blog article.Much thanks again. Really Cool.

Thanks for reading! 🙂

bookmarked!!, I like your blog!

thanks Jane!! 😀

Hi Christina! I’m going to be traveling alone to London this week, would the Harry Potter tour be fun for a solo traveler? Also, I was considering buying a groupon for a night tour, but the picture of you holding the butter beer appears to be outside? I guess we would be missing this part of the tour if I went at night then eh?

hi Lisa, I hope this comment isn’t too late! but YES YES YES the tour would 100% still be fun as a solo traveler (provided that you like Harry Potter haha). I didn’t realize they had a special night tour, but the butterbeer was outside in a special lot where they had lots of big props and set pieces (it’s part of the tour) so I can’t imagine they would leave it out for any reason. I have my fingers crossed for you!

Thank you for this article and the pics. I always need to take a peek of the atmosphere beforehand since I’m going solo. I hope they will let me use my selfie stick inside.

Harry Potter London Studio Review: Worth the Hype?

By Helene Sula

A faint whisper encircled me as I looked down upon the swirling, purplish liquid. Is that you, Dumbledore? I thought to myself. No, it was a child asking politely if I was done with the “pensieve?” Oh, yes! That’s the word for it.

And I was snapped back to reality. I wasn’t, in fact, in Dumbledore’s office, reliving his memories, but instead at the Warner Brothers Studio in London visiting Harry Potter Studio – yes the place where they fimed the movies! This guide will give you all you need to know!

warner brothers tour harry potter

Whether you’re a Potterhead or not, it’s safe to say I was completely wow’ed with the studio. The actual name, Warner Brothers Studio Tour London: The Making of Harry Potter was everything and more I could have hoped for. From walking through the actual sets, taking pictures on a broom stick, finding my house colors, and reliving some special memories I had of reading these books and watching the movies, the studio seems to transport you straight to Hogwarts. And it’s worth it.

warner brothers tour harry potter

Options for booking Harry Potter Studio Tour London:

How to get to the warner brothers studio tour: the making of harry potter, what you'll find inside harry potter studios:, harry potter locations and guides, explore the making of harry potter studios, here were some of my highlights:, the backlot cafe, the studio shop, faq warner brothers studio tour london: the making of harry potter:, special events and exhibitions, how to avoid crowds at harry potter studio leavesden, what to wear to warner brothers studios: the making of harry potter:.

I highly, HIGHLY recommend that you get to the Harry Potter Studio upon opening, or at least stay later. This way you avoid lines and crowds and will wait a shorter period for your frothy cup of butter beer. I have now gone twice. The first, I actually booked my tour with Globus , a facilitated, independent travel company that I truly cannot recommend more. Think of it as stress-free travel . The second time, we booked tickets with GetYourGuide . This includes tickets plus transport. We actually skipped the transport and drove ourseleves since we lived in Hogwarts, I mean Oxford, England .

There's also a fully guided Harry Potter tour here . I didn't do this and here's why: there are SO many knowledgeable staff. Stop and ask they questions! I literally asked every staff member their favorite fun fact. They told me so much.

You can also book your tickets directly on the Warner Brothers site (this is the cheapest route but sells out the fastest!).

This is the exact tour I booked.

  • Directly on the Warner Brother's site (cheapest, get there yourself)
  • Third-Party (I recommend this and it comes with transport)
  • Fully guided (not my recommendation as staff are so knowledgeable)
  • Full Package (as in a trip to London )

warner brothers tour harry potter

So, I’ll be honest with you. I was late to the Harry Potter obsession. I didn’t read the books until 2016. When they came out my little sisters were reading them. I assumed they were for kids and that they couldn’t be of interest to me. But after so many people were talking about how great they were, I decided to give it a try. After reading just a few pages I was hooked.

To me, Harry Potter encapsulates the perfect look at childhood, growing up, the hero’s journey, finding your passion, discovering your purpose, and taking risks. It basically answers some of life’s toughest questions. But could a Harry Potter Studio tour really live up to the hype? This review will give you an idea.

This detailed guide will walk you through everything you need to know to have an enchanting experience. From booking your tickets to exploring the sets and meeting magical creatures, we’ve got you covered.

While it’s called Harry Potter Studio Tour, London, it’s actually in Leavesden, Watford, England. Which is about a 45 minute to an hour ride from London. When you arrive you’re ushered into a big, purple Lobby with a dragon in it towering at you from above. Although there are things to see in that room, my advice is to head in to start the tour so you can beat the crowds.

By Car: Ample parking is available at the studio. Use the postcode WD25 7LR for your GPS. Oh, it's free!

By Train: Take a train from London Euston to Watford Junction. The journey takes about 30 minutes.

Shuttle Bus: A shuttle bus runs from Watford Junction to the studio, costing a small fee. Or, it's included in your tickets here .

warner brothers tour harry potter

The Studio Tour opens with a video of people talking about their experience with Harry Potter and what it means to them. And this was the first time, out of many, that I got teary eyed. Hearing how others have been impacted by this story is what makes me want to keep writing and reading.

Then the cast of Harry Potter, including Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint walk you through a bit about what you’ll be seeing inside. These are the real sets, real props, and real clothing used inside of Harry Potter. So gear up for some excitement.

warner brothers tour harry potter

After the short film ends you stand in front of the Great Hall’s grand entry doors. If it’s your birthday you can go up to the doors to open them! And then, you’ll get chills. It’s funny, I even get excited just typing these words. You open up onto the Great Hall and your mouth drops. To be fair, the Hall is much smaller than how it appears on screen but it’s still absolutely breathtaking.

warner brothers tour harry potter

Because we were there near Halloween we had hanging pumpkins and set dinner table and costumes of the cast at the front of various teachers. Food is displayed on the tables and you can see what magic really went in to constructing an ornate hall. I also went without decor up and I loved seeing it both ways!

warner brothers tour harry potter

Photo opportunities are everywhere and if you wait just a bit you will most likely grab a photo without anyone in it!

warner brothers tour harry potter

Get my guides for all Harry Potter filming locations, tips and so much more!

From here, you walk into the exhibits where in a gigantic room awaits all of the actual sets, costumes, detailed props, and extremely helpful staff. ASK QUESTIONS. These people are Harry Potter fanatics and will answer anything and everything related to Harry Potter. Once we were sitting at a table in what was to look like Hogsmeade, where if you sit at the end the person in front looks much larger than the people in the back. The staff member taking the photo offered to take what must have been 100 photos. She kept on snapping and laughing and narrating our story of who won the Quidditch match. It was so fun! They also know everything about the props and set and can give you as little or as much information as you want!

warner brothers tour harry potter

You'll get to peruse through sets from all 8 years of the movie. There is quite a lot to see and do and this will most likely be the area you spend the most time in.

Ron Weasley’s House was complete with a mixing bowl actually mixing itself and a needle and yarn actually knitting! It was so amazing to see how it worked and see the inside of the actual house.

warner brothers tour harry potter

Dumbledore’s office felt like you were stepping into his actual office. Make sure to look around at how detailed every single prop is and how carefully it was crafted.

warner brothers tour harry potter

The boy's dormitory is set up just like in the movie along with costumes throughout the years. And then, in the Gryffindor common room, you'll find mannequins wearing costumes and chairs by the fire along with the tapestries and portraits that were ALL made from scratch for the movie.

warner brothers tour harry potter

Inside of Snape's Potion Room , you'll find over 950 bottles with potions along with a display of his long black cape.

warner brothers tour harry potter

Step in Hagrid's Hut and take a glance at the space where the giant lived.

warner brothers tour harry potter

Gringott’s Bank was amazing! This is expanded for 2019 and is the marvelous, marble banking hall with crystal chandeliers as well as displays of the incredible masks the goblins wore.

warner brothers tour harry potter

From here, you'll go in to the bank and can try your luck at pulling the Sword of Gryffindor , or take Helga Hufflepuff’s Cup, one of Voldemort’s Horcruxes, and enter the Lestrange vault.

warner brothers tour harry potter

Make your way over to the Forbidden Forest with towering trees, a full-size model of Buckbeak (where you can bow to him) and the giant spiders.

warner brothers tour harry potter

Next you'll head in to a new room with Platform 9 3/4 and then step on board the actual Hogwarts Express !

warner brothers tour harry potter

Take a break at the Backlot Cafe, where you can enjoy themed food and drinks, including the famous Butterbeer. There’s also a chance to sit in the recreated Great Hall set while you dine.

After the exhibits you’ll head to the cafeteria, called the Backlot , with delicious food and Butterbeer.

warner brothers tour harry potter

After you eat, head outside for the purple Wizard's Knight Bus – a great place for a photo opportunity.

Across from the bus is the Dursley's residence on 4 Privet Drive . Go inside to see the incredible flying envelopes from when Harry got his letter to come to Hogwarts.

warner brothers tour harry potter

You'll also see Godric's Hollow and Hogwart's wooden bridge .

warner brothers tour harry potter

Next is the “ Creature Shop ” or prop room which contains masks, figures, and animatronics that make you appreciate the exquisite details that went in to the making of the movies.

warner brothers tour harry potter

Take your time walking down Diagon Alley with all the shops that you remember from the movie like Flourish and Blott books and Ollivander's wand shop. On the way out you also see prototypes and drawings to create different sets and props.

warner brothers tour harry potter

Now, brace yourself! You're about to see Hogwart's actual castle , yes, the one they used in the films! As your walk around the 1/24th scale (it's still ginormous even if it's smaller) you'll hear the music from the Harry Potter films. Try and not tear up, I dare you.

warner brothers tour harry potter

As you leave you'll walk through the wand tribute room where every single member of the cast and crew from all 8 films have their names inscribed.

warner brothers tour harry potter

No visit is complete without a trip to the Studio Shop. Here, you can purchase a wide range of Harry Potter merchandise, from wands and robes to books and exclusive collectibles.

Your last stop is the Gift Shop where you can get anything and everything Harry Potter related.

And that's just skimming the surface! There is so much to see and do.

  • I suggest at least 3 hours to get to experience it all but you could be there at least half a day if you want to absorb everything. I spent seven and a half hours my second time. I LOVED it. I went through slowly and read everything and enjoyed a Butterbeer.
  • Do so here ! You will need to book them in advance and for a specific date. Get there early to avoid the line.
  • You know it! There is a HUGE shop filled with stuff from the movie, house colors, and more!
  • I personally skipped the Green Screen technology that allows you to have yourself filmed flying over Hogwarts or playing Quidditch. There was a line and also I just didn’t think it looked that interesting.
  • This is not a theme park! This is a Studio Tour and you’re seeing how Harry Potter is made. Yes, you can get in on some of the sets, walk through the rooms, and get an up close and personal look at the props. But it’s not like Disney World or Land in the sense that there are no rides.
  • Ask the staff questions! They know everything! There are also select guides who have an expertise on certain props and sets. They are usually standing by the props and are ready to chat with you. Seriously, this is my biggest tip. They have so many interesting facts.
  • You can take as many pictures as you like so make sure your camera is charged.
  • The Harry Potter Studio is kid friendly and is wheel-chair accessible.
  • There is WiFi throughout the studio but save your sharing for later and experience the wizarding world in the present.
  • To avoid the crowds and have a more relaxed experience, visit on weekdays, particularly outside of school holidays. Early morning and late afternoon slots tend to be less busy.
  • Camera: Photography is allowed throughout most of the tour, so bring a good camera to capture the magic.
  • Comfortable Shoes: The tour involves a lot of walking, so wear comfortable footwear.
  • Light Snacks: Although there are cafes, bringing light snacks can be handy, especially if you’re visiting with children.

warner brothers tour harry potter

Keep an eye out for special events and exhibitions that occur throughout the year, such as the “Dark Arts” during Halloween or “Hogwarts in the Snow” during the Christmas season.

I went for the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for “Return to Azkaban” my favorite movie and book! It was excellent and I loved all the additions!

warner brothers tour harry potter

You might be wondering how I got photos like this:

warner brothers tour harry potter

The truth is: I just took my time! I didn't get there early for this. I just took my time and when I saw an opportunity, went for it. It will be crowded. This sells out daily, so just be patient and have fun!

Apparently I am a big fan of a simple skirt , top, and my signature white tennis shoes . I also love throwing on a scarf with house colors .

warner brothers tour harry potter

The studio itself offers plenty of opportunities to buy merchandise. Including: robes, t-shirts, headbands, sweatshirts, and more. But here are some things you could wear:

  • Harry Potter Scarf
  • Tennis Shoes (please wear comfy shoes! You'll be on your feet a lot!)
  • Time Turner Necklace
  • Always Bracelet
  • Chocolate frog Necklace

I think the real beauty of visiting Harry Potter Studios in London is appreciating the massive amount of work that goes in to making such an epic series of movies. It is mind boggling and truly magical what they put together. Take your time, enjoy it, and definitely give it a go! I would personally recommend this tour if this isn’t your first time to London. London itself is a magical place with so much to see and do. So make sure to experience all that London has to offer, and on your next trip, visit the studio!

Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour – A Magical London Day Trip

Sharing is caring!

The Harry Potter Warner Brother Studio Tour is a must-do for any Hatty Potter fan while visiting London. I grew up with Harry Potter, The Sorcerer’s Stone was the first novel I ever read and I was completely hooked. This was around 2002 so I was a little behind, but I quickly devoured the next three books and loved the movies just as much. My mom, sister, and I re-read all the books before every book release and re-watched all the movies before every movie release. I felt like I was growing up with Harry, Ron, and Hermione; and it was something I bonded with my mom and sister about as well.

Harry Potter was and is so important in my life. It caused a life-long love of reading. Reading those books, I could escape into a magical world where kids my age could do magic, ride Hippogriffs, fight dragons, even save the world. I remember being devastated when the final movie came out when I was in high school – it felt like the end of an era. But doing the Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour felt like that magic was alive again! Which is why it’s so important for me to share my experience with others, so that you too can experience the magic again. So without further adieu, let me tell you how you can experience the Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour – a truly magical day trip from London.

How to Purchase Tickets for the Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour

There are many places to purchase tickets for the Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour while you’re in London. But first – purchase your tickets in advance! Like as soon as you confirm your trip to London and are sure you have time for this day trip: buy the tickets! They do sell out, but you can buy them from multiple tour services as well. Headout, Viator, and Get Your Guide all have ticket options, plus many, many more.

Tickets directly from Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour London cost around 47 pounds per adult, with family deals as well. You can check these ticket prices here . Tickets from third-party sellers are generally more expensive (I bought my tickets from Headout and they were around 89 pounds), but they usually include transportation to and from the Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour just outside of London. Which brings me to my next point…

How to Get to the Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour

The Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour isn’t actually in London. I know, deceiving, right? The studio is actually located in Leavesden, England – near Watford. Meaning the Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour is about a 45 minute to an hour drive from London city center. Lucky for you, most third party companies that sell tickets to Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour London include transportation. I got my tickets through Headout and simply went to the tour office near Victoria Station and boarded the bus. The details of the tour claimed they would air the Harry Potter movies on the drive to and from the studio but unfortunately they didn’t on my trip. However, it was a convenient way to get to and from the Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour and I had plenty of time before the bus headed back to London.

https://thetravellingbarnacle.com/best-things-to-do-in-one-weekend-in-london While you can’t take the Hogwarts Express to the Warner Brothers Studio Tour outside London, you can pretty easily take a train to the tour. You can take a train from Euston Station to Watford Junction (the closest station to the Warner Brothers Studio Tour). From there, there’s a shuttle that runs from the station to the studio itself. To make the train ride even more convenient: you can use your Oyster Card to take the train to the Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour London. Check out my post on things to do in London to see why you definitely need to get an Oyster Card on your trip!

Why Visit Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour London: Relive the Magic

As I said before, the Harry Potter Warner Brother Studios Tour London was breathtaking. It renewed my love and excitement for all things Harry Potter. The tour begins in the Great Hall, which was incredible. From there you move into a more open area where you get to visit the Gryffindor common room, the Potions Classroom, and (my personal favorite) Dumbledore’s office, among others. I don’t want to spoil this experience too much but I will share some of my many photos to give you a taste of it.

Why Visit Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour London: See the Behind the Scenes Movie Magic

I was amazed at some of the props I got to see on the Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour London. I thought most of the creatures in the Harry Potter movies were just CGI and other visual effects. On this tour I quickly realized this wasn’t the case at all. There’s a whole section of the tour devoted to explaining and also demonstrating how the combination of visual effect and special effects works to create the magical world of Harry Potter we all know and love. This included how Quidditch came together, as well as getting to see the famous flying Ford Anglia up close. However, I think my favorite props were in the Forbidden Forest. Between Aragog, the centaur, and even Buckbeak (hippogriffs were always one of my favorite magical creatures) it was amazing.

At the beginning of your tour, you’re given an audio guide, so as you explore you also get to watch videos explaining some of the movie magic behind the props you’re seeing. I was so surprised how much I learned about the making of these movies. Later in the tour I got to see even more incredible props, production art and models and so much more.

Why Visit Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour London: Visit Diagon Alley

Diagon Alley was always so alluring and mesmerizing to me as a kid. Other than Hogwarts – definitely the number one place I’d want to visit in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour London made that dream a reality when I got to walk down Diagon Alley. I haven’t been to Diagon Alley at Harry Potter World so I don’t have a comparison but I loved this Diagon Alley. Please feel free to let me know in the comments how the Universal one compares!

Why Visit Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour London: Visit Where it All Started - Number 4 Privet Drive

But before that – try some Butterbeer! While the food at Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour London was nothing to rave about (it wasn’t bad either but was definitely pricier than it was worth), I was so excited to try Butterbeer! Plus it’s a good way to get a souvenir as you get to keep the cup! From there you go outside where you get to see the Knight Bus, Number 4 Privet Drive, the Potters’ Cottage, and the covered bridge at Hogwarts that made it’s first appearance in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. This section was one of my favorite parts of the tour and it was nice to get outside for a bit – despite the dreary February weather.

Why Visit Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour London: Get Your Own Wand!

Or some other magical souvenirs! The Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour experience ends with a pretty awesome gift shop. You can find everything from chocolate frogs to robes to wands! I personally didn’t get anything much here (except a magnet because I collect them when I travel), because I only brought a backpack with me to London and didn’t have a lot of space. But I definitely recommend getting something here to remember your magical experience!

Some Final Tips for Visiting Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour London:

  • Consider the weather. While most of the tour is inside, there is the small outdoor portion. There’s a coat check at the beginning of the tour. I recommend bringing a light jacket, I was stuck in a big winter coat the whole tour.
  • If you’re going to take the train – buy an Oyster card! You can use this on public transportation throughout London, it’ll save you money and hassle.
  • Don’t spend the tour trying to take the perfect picture. It’s crowded and you’ll just get frustrated and enjoy your time less. Sorry, not going to get a picture in the Mirror of Erised without a ton of other people in the reflection.
  • Don’t rush! I was worried about not having time on my tour and actually ended up finishing it EARLY. So I took the time to double back and more fully appreciate things and snap some extra pictures.

I hope this post helps you to realize there’s no more magical day trip from London than the Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour! Have you been on the tour? Let me know in the comments if there’s something I missed or what your favorite part of the tour is! Or let me know your favorite Harry Potter memory!

I really regret not doing this tour when I visited London. Next time for sure, it looks like so much fun!

It really was! I’m so glad I devoted a day to doing it. There’s just so much to do in London, it can be so hard to decide on what to see in a limited time!

Somehow I still haven’t managed to go and actually visit the HP Studios. Been meaning to for a while… maybe this year I’ll finally manage.

Great tips and presentation! Although I was living in London and the UK I have not seen it. I think the location did not suit me so much. Instead, on a trip to Oxford, I visited Christ Church College where many Harry Potter scenes took place You may have heard of it

I have heard of it, I would love to visit there on my next trip. There are some truly amazing day trips from London!

I loved reading this. I’m a Potter head and as yet never visited the studios. I live about 2 hours drive away as well. Definitely this year 😁

You should definitely go! It’s incredible. Also super jealous that you live 2 hours from London 🙂

Absolutely TERRIBLE overpriced gift shop, Spiders EVERYWHERE, rude people IM NEVER GOING BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was blown away by this attraction. I grew up loving the Harry Potter books and movies, and walking around here I felt like I was in a fantasy world. There is so much to see and discover! It took almost four hours to explore the entire studio. It was much bigger than I expected, so make sure to schedule enough time when you go here!

Even if I've been to the Warner Bros Studio in London, the potter head in me still got super excited and it was a very different experience! We enjoyed so much having filming our own moving portraits. You can even cast your own patronus. The place is very vast with a lot of instagram worthy spots! They also have a cafe where you can sit Muggle-watching with your own cup of butterbeer!

The tour itself is worth your time and money when you come to Tokyo. Easily accessible via public transport. Take at least 4 hours to visit. Expect overlap when you already visited this in London UK though. WARNING: Don't book this tour via HeadOut.com though! I have booked upto two times an at the Headout.com website available date and timeslot for the Warner Bros Harry Potter studio tour in Tokyo. And twice their website info concerning availability on time slots proved not reliable, which took each time a lot of my time (nightly hours waiting for tickets after receiving an actual confirmation of successful ordering) and effort to find out. For my trouble I received a standardised e-mail and 'oops we messed up whatsapp message' twice. In the end, we managed booking via another vendor without any troubles within 15 minutes.

From the minute you enter you're immersed in the world of Harry Potter. Simply amazing and you can easily spend over 4 hours here exploring all the sets, activities and taking photos. Food was tasty but overpriced as expected; butterbeer is still too sweet. The shop has a lot of Japan-exclusive items and you can also customize robes, bags and other items with your name - come at least 30 mins in advance if you want to customize and use it during the tour. This was much more relaxing than USJ since you don't have to queue for hours.

Amazing experience!! The whole process ran so smoothly, we were a little late and super worried they wouldn’t let us in, but we got through seamlessly. We skipped the fantastic beasts section as we aren’t fans however the rest took us about 3.5 hours. Great tour, highly recommend. Only downfall - the food at the great hall was very average tasting, and hard to order due to non English speaking servers and the food being far away from the counter (can’t just point to order at the cafe). The food was bland, dry and not amazing and super expensive. So I would save your money on the food and just enjoy the amazing tour and merch.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London - The Making of Harry Potter Questions & Answers

warner brothers tour harry potter

How long does it take to do the whole tour? You have to choose a tour time, is that all you can do there or can you look around and then you go on a tour?

warner brothers tour harry potter

You do have to have a timed slot, and tickets must be bought in advance. We had a 3.30 pm entrance but the crowds were relatively light and a broadcast was made that if you were ready you could go in. We spent almost 3 hours there. As others have said once you get through the small holding area, then into the cinema you are taken through to the main hall where you are guided. Sadly you don't spend as long here as you might like, then once through the Great hall you are free to wander. There is the green screen where you can ride a broom stick or travel in the flying ford. Kiddies can try using a wand, and the guides dotted around the area are a wealth of knowledge if you have a question. I used the audio guide as it gives you added extra information. Be aware though, prices are on the high side so if you have children get used to saying no. Hope you enjoy it, it was worth it in my opinion.

warner brothers tour harry potter

Have been twice and both times spent 5 hours plus :-D absolutely no pressure once you're through the main hall (even that isn't pressured really) so maybe try and book earlier in the day so you have plenty of time to enjoy!

warner brothers tour harry potter

The guide stated that it takes, on average, about 3 hours. It took us around that and we read all the informtion boards, looked at all the sets and moved at a leisurely pace. You spend about 20 minutes with a guide to introduce you to the tour, and the rest of the tour is at your own pace. Hope this answers your question

warner brothers tour harry potter

hiya we booked out tour a 10am we found it best to go early as it gets very busy have a lovely time

regards lynne x

warner brothers tour harry potter

We went as large group and spent 4 hours there. Once through the introduction short film, you are guided into grand hall then on your own to do your own thing. There is a lot to see with the different sets etc but you are not restricted or herded so you can be in there as little or as long as you want really. We had something to eat aswell and took loads of phtots but if you just want to look around, you could easily do it 2-3 hours.

warner brothers tour harry potter

I found the 3 hours to be more than enough for seeing everything. Im not sure whats in the area as we got the Golden Tours bus from Victoria there and back.

warner brothers tour harry potter

Our tour took approximately 3 hours. Once you go through the main area where you are given a brief outline of what to expect then you can proceed at your own pace. I think the reason we are given allocated times is that they can control the numbers of people coming through the gates so that everyone gets to go through the complex in comfort. We hope you will enjoy your tour - we certainly did!

warner brothers tour harry potter

Took us 4 hours, we didn't stop and read everything if you did I bet you could be in there all day... You don't have a tour, when you first go in you have staff explaining the main hall but rest you walk yourself

warner brothers tour harry potter

You have to choose a time for the start of the tour as it takes about 20 - 30 mins with a guide to go through the Hogwarts hall after that you see everything at your own leisure, We took about 3hrs in total , however you could take longer so be prepared for that. So much to see , have a great time

You do choose a tour time which is just the first part of the tour and takes you through the Hogwarts hall after that you are free to take your time and look at everything at your leisure. I would say 20 - 30 mins is the first part then it does take a good 2/3 hrs to see everything else. Enjoy your visit ,its brilliant

warner brothers tour harry potter

At least three hours to look at everything properly

warner brothers tour harry potter

Pretty much the same as above. I'm over 60 and mobility limited as is my sister who I went with. We sat down frequently, took our time and it took us almost 4 hours. Plenty of seats available.

warner brothers tour harry potter

I would say around 3 hours.

The time slots don't matter too much as we arrived late due to traffic. The times are to stagger larger groups through the tour.

Please remember food is very expensive as are photos and gift shop.

£20 for broomstick picture and £8 for a chocolate frog!!!

It's probably a once only visit but worth a trip if your a huge Harry fan!

warner brothers tour harry potter

The great hall is a timed expierence but the rest is self guided and up to you. We did pretty much everything out our own pace and took about 3 hours. They've said some people take between 1 hour and 4 hours. Some people have apparently stayed for 12! Hope you enjoy if you go :) x

warner brothers tour harry potter

I would allow 3 hours for the tour. The first 15-20 minutes is guided by the staff, then you are free to go at your own speed.

Warner Bros reveal NEW Harry Potter attraction in the UK this summer

  • A new mystical classroom will be displayed at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London
  • READ MORE: Harry Potter OFFICIALLY set to become a TV show, bosses confirm

Harry Potter fans across the UK are set for an enchanting summer - as a new classroom is set to be unveiled at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London .

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the Studio Tour in Leavesden will introduce visitors to the mystical art of Divination with the first-ever display of the Divination classroom set.

Fans will recognise this setting from when Harry, Ron, and Hermione attend their initial lesson with the enigmatic Professor Trelawney, known for her expertise in tea leaves, crystal balls, visions and astrology.

This iconic classroom is integral to the film's plot, hinting at the dangers awaiting Harry.

One of the classroom's notable props is the teacup Harry uses for Tessomancy, which ominously reveals the Grim - an omen of death, according to Professor Trelawney.

To some eagled-eyed fans, the Defence Against the Dark Arts and Divination classrooms may feel familiar.

During filming Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, filmmakers re-dressed the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom to become the lush, fabric-covered Divination classroom we see on-screen.

Visitors can now explore the original teacup and other detailed set pieces from the mystical classroom up close, including rich red fabric lining the castle walls, numerous patterned rugs, and jewel-toned velvet pouffes.

As part of the 20th-anniversary celebrations and new for Return to Azkaban, visitors will receive an activity passport to participate in the new "Find Scabbers" trail.

This interactive quest involves placing a map at four projection stations, revealing footprints that spell out Scabbers' location.

The trail concludes in the wand room, where fans will uncover the elusive rat's hiding spot after holding their map up to the light.

In addition to the Divination classroom, fans can explore the interior of the Knight Bus up close and in action, as a full cross-section of the set has been crafted by the original filmmakers.

This immersive experience includes the set's characteristic rattling, swaying chandelier, moving beds, and fast-paced views of London's streets, replicating Harry's journey to the Leaky Cauldron.

The Studio Tour also features the original Leaky Cauldron bed and a demonstration of The Monster Book of Monsters.

Fans will witness The Monster Book of Monsters go on a rampage in Harry’s room and will be able to learn about the mechanics that brought the infamous book to life on screen.

This summer, Warner Bros. Studio Tour London promises to transport visitors deeper into the magical world of Harry Potter, with new exhibits and interactive experiences celebrating a beloved chapter in the series.

For more details and to book to explore the new attraction, visit https://www.wbstudiotour.co.uk/.

It comes after it was revealed in 2023 that the Harry Potter Studio Tour is the UK's most desired experience - and comes second globally.

Warner Bros Upfront

Warner Bros. Discovery kept up with TV upfronts week’s biggest trend at their presentation out of The Theater at Madison Square Garden Wednesday: Promoting not just its TV slate as a prime ad-buying opportunity — but also its film franchises.

First up from CEO David Zaslav’s team, WB Discovery revenue and strategy chief Bruce Campbell addressed the Madison Avenue crowd following a sizzle featuring top WBD IP and brands across film and TV series. Then Mindy Kaling took the stage to promote her Max comedy “The Sex Lives of College Girls” before introducing HBO and Max chairman and CEO Casey Bloys.

Popular on Variety

And it’s true, Bloys confirmed it himself when he came out and touted the one-year anniversary of Max, the rebranded, combined HBO Max-Discovery+ streaming service. Bloys’ chunk of the show also included new footage and images from “House of the Dragon” Season 2, the upcoming “Dune” prequel series “Dune: Prophecy,” the third season of “The White Lotus” and “The Last of Us” Season 2.

Bloys also brought out “And Just Like That” star Sarah Jessica Parker to talk about the legacy of “Sex and the City’s” Carrie Bradshaw, and “Hacks” stars Hannah Einbinder and Paul W. Downs (who is also co-creator of the Max original) to showcase their comedic chops.

The HBO and Max boss made sure to highlight the power of Warner Bros. films on streaming, noting the draw that “Barbie” and “Wonka” have had on streaming so far, and the anticipation for “Dune 2” to hit Max next week.

U.S. networks chairman and CEO Kathleen Finch got an intro from Adult Swim’s “Rick and Morty,” before coming out to reveal a few bit cable announcements, including news of a “Harry Potter” baking competition at Food Network, the plot of the upcoming “Rick and Morty” anime series, John Cena as host of this year’s “Shark Week” programming at Discovery, and a new HGTV series reuniting “Flip or Flop” stars Tarek El Moussa and Christina Hall post-divorce.

“We are the most powerful creators of unscripted content across platforms and places,” Finch said. “We draw the biggest collective audience in cable, and provide an unparalleled way to reach consumers in a trusted environment. Our shows, franchises and brands continue to deliver value to consumers and advertisers on linear and on Max. Regardless of how or where they watch, viewers come to WBD for our addictive content. Only at WBD could we bring one of the biggest action stars face-to-face with the ocean’s biggest predators as John Cena hosts this year’s Shark Week, and also travel to Hogwarts in an innovative new way.”

Like Bloys, Finch touted how her division is utilizing WB films to woo advertisers, pointing to TNT as the cable home for airings of “The Batman,” “Dune” and “Black Adam.”

Elsewhere in the presentation, CNN boss Mark Thompson revealed his working strategy for the news network’s programming, from the daily news content to original series and films, and the TNT Sports team came out to field a speed round of season predictions.

RELATED CONTENT: ‘Flip or Flop’ Reunion, John Cena Hosts ‘Shark Week’ and More

Speaking more specifically to WBD’s ad offering, U.S. ad sales chief Jon Steinlauf gave the corporate pitch: “While many streamers have increased their ad loads with some now up to 10 minutes an hour, Max averages less than four minutes — to give you more impact and engagement. Ad-supported Max is showing impressive growth. The subscriber base has doubled over the last two years. Half of our new signups are choosing Max with ads. We now simulcast all TNT and TBS live sports on Max. About 50% of those live sports viewers are without pay TV. Over the last year we’ve seen more excitement for our sponsorships and our ad offerings. Premier brands like Mercedes and Google have sponsored some of our biggest original series. And here there are more opportunities ahead.”

“We’ve enjoyed a successful partnership with the NBA for 40 years, and look forward to another season and reaching an agreement that makes sense for all parties,” Silberwasser said.

Yet to emphasize the importance of the NBA to WBD’s basic cable business, the WBD upfront ended with “Inside the NBA” co-host Shaquille O’Neal chatting with Conan O’Brien. O’Brien ribbed O’Neal about his array of endorsement pacts.

“It’s insane how many endorsements you have,” O’Brien joked. “You can’t possibly know all the endorsements you have. In the time that Shaq’s been out here, he has signed deals with the following products: The Shaq and Decker circular saw. The Shaqbook laptop. The Shake Shack Shaq. Shaq Plaque Attack Dental Floss. Shaq Zodiac tarot cards. Shaq Kerouac On the Road Travel Books. The Cheesecake Shaqtory. Shaq Tac Toe. Shaqamole. That’s a fun game. And finally, Shaq oat milk for the Shaqtose intolerant.”

Michael Schneider contributed to this story.

Daniel Radcliffe feels ‘really lucky’ for booking Broadway gigs after ‘Harry Potter’ success

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Daniel Radcliffe is grateful that he transitioned from child star to Broadway legend.

“I got really lucky in the sense that a ton of people gave me opportunities to do stuff like ‘Equus’ and ‘How to Succeed in Business,’” the actor exclusively told Page Six at the Drama League Awards last week.

“And I took enough of those opportunities and enough of them turned out well.”

Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter.

Radcliffe became an overnight sensation at age 12 when he was plucked to play the lead role of Harry Potter in the 2001 movie “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” which was adapted from the popular fantasy novel by author J.K. Rowling.

After starring in all eight of the films from the franchise, Radcliffe, now 36, branched into stage acting in 2007 with “Equus,” followed by another role in “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.”

“I loved when I was ‘Potter,’ I loved it when I started doing stage, I loved it,” Radcliffe said of his ongoing passion for acting.

“There’s a lot of people who started young, then find themselves in a position [where] they don’t actually like the job very much; they feel trapped in it. From quite young I was like, ‘This is what I want to do.’”

The English actor is now nominated for a Tony this year for his role in the Stephen Sondheim revival, “Merrily We Roll Along.”

He opened up to Page Six about how he managed to learn the notoriously difficult song “Franklin Shepard, Inc.”

(L-R) Daniel Radcliffe, Jonathan Groff and Lindsay Mendez in "Merrily We Roll Along"

“I knew I was doing the show for quite a long time before rehearsals,” he explained. “So I drove my girlfriend [Erin Darke] crazy with just the sound of me rehearsing that in the other room for months and months and months – and I still run it a lot during the day.”

Radcliffe joked that Darke, 39, probably knows the tongue-twister song by heart now and could easily fill in for him in a pinch.

“She’d probably do pretty well,” he said of the actress, whom he’s been dating since meeting on the “Kill Your Darlings” set in 2012. They welcomed their first child together in April 2023.
