Named after Parson James Woodforde, a jolly 18th century clergyman whose lively diaries celebrate his love of good food and great beer, Woodforde’s have been brewing award-winning beers for over four decades. And you’ll taste Norfolk pride and passion in every single drop. So what makes traditional ales like Wherry and Nog distinct from the modern beers developed by Woodforde’s Head Brewer, such as Conquest Imperial Lager & Voltage IPA? Find out from the experts on a tour of the brewery itself.

In the heart of the Norfolk Broads, you’ll explore the fascinating world of local brewing, learn about the brewery’s history and find out why Woodforde’s beer has Norfolk written into its soul. You’ll be considered a trainee brewer and see the beer being made from the best locally grown malt and whole hop flowers. Discover each stage of the brewing process and learn how the Head Brewer makes sure every beer leaving the brewery meets top notch quality standards.

Then you’ll get to the best bit…tasting! Woodforde’s have their very own brewery tap, The Fur & Feather Inn, just metres away with the full range of beers and the best tasting Woodforde’s around.

After the tour, perhaps book a table in the restaurant where the chefs use fresh, seasonal ingredients to create flavours complementing Woodforde’s very special local brews. Everyone tucking into a Fur & Feathers meal will have a 10% discount in the brewery shop, perfect for treating yourself to Woodforde’s memorabilia and take-home beers.

Woodforde’s: Norfolk, brewed

Woodforde’s is Norfolk’s award-winning brewer, located just 8 miles out of Norwich.

You will find Woodforde’s beer all around the county, and can often see their dray vans delivering to your local, but it is only here in Norfolk that you can visit the brewery and take a tour to find out how the beers are brewed, how the business has grown over the years and what’s next for the future.

Recently introduced keg beers such as Conquest Lager, Norada Pale Ale & West Coast Wherry are crafted by their master brewer alongside classics such as the iconic Wherry and Nelson’s.

The Fur and Feather is Woodforde’s very own brewery tap and shop, where the beer travels metres not miles.

Here you will always find the full range of Woodforde’s beers, straight from the brewery, and you’ll often see their master brewer personally checking the quality of the beer being served.

Book a table in the restaurant where the chefs use fresh & seasonal ingredients to create flavours to compliment your drink. The menu offers quality pub classics and chargrill dishes, seasonal menus for occasions such as Christmas and a classic and Gentleman’s High Tea (think Afternoon Tea but all savoury, and with a beer taster flight).

Finish your experience with a visit to the Woodforde’s shop. Take home your favourite beers and discover other great local products, from jams & chutneys to coffee & gin.

Individual Brewery tours These are held from Spring through to Autumn – check with us for dates and to book places, contact the shop on 01603 722218

Weekday tours start at 7.00pm and last approx 1 1/2 hours. Times may vary for weekend tours. The tour costs £10.00 per person.

Group Brewery tours Group tours are run subject to availability and last approx 1 ½ hours (over 18 years only). Please call or fill out our enquiry form if you would like to arrange one. Group tour prices: up to 12 people £100; up to 24 people £200 Places on all tour are limited, so please do pre-book to ensure space is available. Over 18’s only.

Woodforde’s Brewery is located on Slad Lane, in the idyllic village of Woodbastwick , on the River Bure, within the Norfolk Broads and 6 miles from Norwich.

Find out how Woodforde’s Brewery make their beer, the history of the brewery and discover why Norfolk is so important and what gives the beer that unique Woodforde’s taste. Their brewery tours are fun and informative and their tour guides offer visitors an insight into the various stages of the brewing process, including how they ensure all of their beer leaves their brewery having met the high quality standards of their head brewer Neil.

Take a tour of the brewery and watch the beer being made and then finish off with probably the most popular part – the tasting! Visit their very own brewery tap, The Fur & Feather, that is on site. Stocking their full range of beers, just metres from the brewery and where it is made, sample the different Woodforde’s beers inside this lovely pub, that also serves excellent food, in the pretty Norfolk village of Woodbastwick . Finish off the experience with a visit to their shop, where you can stock up on your favourite tipple.

Woodforde’s was started by good friends Ray Ashworth and Dr David Crease, who were tired of drinking the same old beers and thought they could brew something better themselves. With a passion for homebrewing, they became part of a new-wave revolution, handcrafting their own beers in the 1960s. Woodforde’s grew at record speeds, through trial and error, hard work, ingenuity and by using water from their own boreholes and local barley, they won CAMRA’s 1990 ‘New Breweries Champion Beer of Britain’ award for the Wherry pint, which they are still famous for today.

Dedicated and passionate about making great beer, Woodforde’s Brewery has won over 130 awards and is one of the region’s most well-known and loved beer producers.

WOODFORDE'S BREWERY TAP

Woodforde's Brewery moved into our forever home in 1988 in the heart of the Norfolk Broads. The Woodbastwick estate had a set of wonderful thatched farm buildings, one of which was converted into the brewery tap. The building is now home to The Fur & Feather pub and brewery shop.

Woodford Reserve is the only facility in the state making bourbon using the original Scottish 'pot still' method. This historic distillery has been restored with visitors in mind, and offers exhibits on the history and heritage of bourbon, tours of the facility, lunch on the porch from a Ouita Michel restaurant and a gift shop featuring Kentucky crafts and other premium gift items. The Distillery is available as a rental facility for business meetings of 10 to 200 people. Options include the Conference Center's 2,000 square foot Creekside Room or the intimate Scale House for smaller retreats. Weather permitting, the terrace is perfect for business receptions, dinners or informal gatherings.

Woodford Reserve Tour

We’re back on the Bourbon Trail to visit historic Woodford Reserve distillery.

It’s a winter tradition with our gang to meet up at one of the regional distilleries. There’s so many to choose from!

Woodford Reserve, in Woodford County, Kentucky, is an old distillery and relatively small compared to others we’ve visited. The original stone warehouses were built in 1840.

Hundred year-old cypress fermentation tanks are still being used. Mmmm – smell the mash!

Woodford has expanded its copper stills to a total of six, each with that iconic shape.

One of the old stone warehouses is still in use to age barrels.

Woodford carries on the tradition of hand rolling barrels from the warehouse to the bottling building.  Watch your toes at the crossing!

After the tour, folks headed up to the visitor center to the tasting room.

Part of the charm of a bourbon tour is sampling all the products the distillery offers.

Often there are special batch bottles for sale that are only available at the distillery.

Next, a mandatory stop at the gift shop…

Then on to a late lunch at The Stave – known for its extensive bourbon list. Funny enough, we all ordered beer!
