A storied island
England bike tours.
A visit to England offers a glimpse at its history and traditions through ancient villages, medieval castles, prehistoric structures and leading museums. Such history is set alongside the vibrant British culture, making it one of the most diverse places in the world.
While London attracts millions of visitors each year, cyclists treasure natural diversity beyond the city. Pedal through lovely meadows, hills and lakes dotted with quaint villages.
England also boasts coastal areas with cliffs and charming seaside villages. The rolling hills and a yearlong mild climate also make England a prime cycling destination.
“This was a life-changing experience...my first bicycle tour and my first time in either country. It was, in a word, amazing. A totally unique experience. Can't wait to do my next one!”

Tour of Britain saved as British Cycling secure ‘one of biggest deals in British sport’
British Cycling has announced “one of the biggest deals in British sport in recent years” with Lloyds Bank becoming its new lead partner, effective immediately.
The “multi-year deal”, which is thought to be worth around £20 million over the next five years, secures the future of the men’s and women’s Tour of Britain, both of which were left in disarray at the end of last year following the collapse of previous promoter SweetSpot.
Cycling’s national governing body has taken on the organisation of both events .
British Cycling’s chief executive, Jon Dutton, who has been in post for 12 months, described the partnership – signed last week – as a “game-changer” and “landmark” one for the organisation following some turbulent years.
British Cycling had been without a title partner since 2020 when HSBC decided to trigger a break clause midway through its eight-year sponsorship. HSBC had taken over from Sky at the start of 2017.
The body was already under huge pressure following various bullying and doping scandals. The pandemic then had a huge effect on finances. British Cycling was accused by environmental groups Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth of “brazen sports washing” after taking on a sponsorship deal with Shell in 2022. That eight-year deal continues, although Lloyds will be title partner of the Tour of Britain.
Dutton said on a media call that it was “difficult to compare” the value of the new title partnership with the last one. Much of HSBC’s investment was in delivery rather than straight cash. Over half a million people last year took part in their programmes HSBC UK Let’s Ride, HSBC UK Go Ride, HSBC UK Breeze and HSBC UK Ready Set Ride. But in terms of value it was thought the HSBC deal was worth roughly £8 million per year.
Either way, it secures the future of Britain’s two national tours, which had been in some doubt at the start of the year. The Tour of Britain women was reduced to four days this year, from June 6 to June 9, to make it more commercially viable. The intention is to grow it back to six days
Dutton admitted at the start of the year that it was a risk taking on the races. He said on Thursday that this deal “significantly mitigates” that risk, although he added that British Cycling was not out of the woods yet.
“There’s no crisis but we’re certainly not in rude health,” he said. “The situation when i came in 12 months ago was difficult. It is a very challenging commercial landscape. Financial sustainability [for British Cycling] will take a few years”.
As well as becoming title partner of the re-imagined Tour of Britain events - thought to be worth around £1 million a year - Lloyds will also back “a suite of pioneering new events that are part of British Cycling’s recently launched major events vision”.
“These brand-new events will include the delivery of an international urban cycling festival featuring BMX freestyle, and the development of a national track league concept, helping British Cycling to capitalise on the inspiration and success of the nation’s best riders.”
Lloyds Bank will also become the Title Partner of all British Cycling’s elite National Series and
National Championship events, and the Lloyds Bank logo will feature on the Great Britain Cycling Team kit.
In a statement, Dutton said: Dutton said: “As two British institutions, British Cycling and Lloyds Bank have a natural affinity and we share a commitment to supporting a more healthy, inclusive and prosperous Britain. In the last twelve months, a third of UK adults have ridden a bike and we want to see more people experiencing the joy of cycling.
“Through this partnership with Lloyds Bank, we can embark together on a journey to not only champion the sport but also harness its potential to deliver liberating experiences to families and communities nationwide. We are collectively committed to tackling social inequality and inspiring a nation to move together towards a healthier and more inclusive future.”
Olympic champion Katie Archibald added: “Starting with the Tour of Britain Women next month, I can’t wait to see the positive impact it will have from our communities through to elite level. I’m particularly excited about the development of a new national track league concept and look forward to hearing more.”

It is safe to say that ‘Bike Adventures’ are awesome. It is great to feel like real mates with the whole team. Dom and Steve make you feel like a pro rider. Every need taken care of. Great routs, great support when needed, bags in the room when you arrive at the end of the days ride so you can get organised quickly…
First, a big thank you for a great experience. The organisation was tremendous and everything appeared to work perfectly. I shall remember the past fortnight with great pleasure for a long time.
I had a fantastic holiday. For those of us who are not hill ‘Junkies’ the Rhine is the perfect trip. A wonderful route. Add good weather, good company and excellent accommodation and its a winner for me. Thank you.
What an awesome trip! It was challenging but personally so satisfying to climb those little humps in the Alps. Our thanks to Steve, Rob and Mike for their efforts in ensuring everything went as smoothly as possible. Lots of memories.
Once again, thanks for putting on a great trip. There seems to be a certain formula that Bike Adventures has that works for us and clearly many others.
Many thanks for all your hard work in making the Rhine cycle so enjoyable. You were most supportive and helpful – and fun! We loved visiting so many countries with their different scenery, architecture and wildlife – something for everyone!
Just to say again what a great trip the Tuscany tour was… Steve and Rob set just the right tone with the group and I hope they enjoyed our company…….I hope to come on another of your trips before too long.
A great trip: a seamless two weeks of sun, sweat and scintillating company! Thanks everyone, and especially to Rob and Bike Adventures!
Good ride, wonderful route with good roads and sufficient challenges to make it interesting – with the mileages just about right leaving time for relaxed evenings and a drink or two. I would say that this ride and Bord/Barc are the two best rides that I have ever done.
Just to let you know we had a great holiday and were really impressed with the hard work and support which Phil, John and Kim put in on our behalf. So much so that I wouldn’t really consider a cycling holiday without Bike Adventures!

Tour of Britain Women 2024 route
Four-day race set to conclude in Manchester
The newly-named 2024 Tour of Britain Women, formerly Women's Tour, has been reduced from six stages to four and will be held from June 6-9, 2024. Each stage offers the peloton one intermediate sprint and two main climbs.
Stage 1: Welshpool to Llandudno, 142.5km
The opening stage takes the peloton from Welshpool to Llandudno on a 142.5km stage that includes 2,276m of climbing.
The stage will also feature one intermediate sprint and two main climbs; Pencraig and then the Llangynog climb at the 65km mark, known locally as the Berwyn Pass, which is 6km in length with an average gradient of 5.4%.
A series of punchy climbs with 10km to go is likely to whittle down the bunch as it enters Llandudno, passing Conwy Castle before a finish on the promenade.
Stage 2: Wrexham to Wrexham, 140.2km
Stage 2's 140.2km race will start and finish in Wrexham’s city centre and race along breathtaking scenery in Denbighshire, West Cheshire and Chester.
The race will include one intermediate sprint and two main climbs, including the Eyton Hill and Horseshoe Pass, which arrives at a pivotal point of the stage with around 30km to go and then a descent and fast run-in to the finish line.
Stage 3: Warrington to Warrington, 106.8km
Stage 3's 106.8km race will begin in front of the Golden Gates of Warrington Town Hall.
The peloton will tackle a counter-clockwise route that will gradually start to ramp up from around the 25km mark, before facing the two main climbs.
The first climb is the 5.66km-long Pexhill Road to Broken Cross and then the route ramps back up to Pott Shrigley in the foothills of the Peak District for the next set of QOM points.
The peloton will descend and remark of a fast run-in to the finish line in Warrington.
Stage 4: Manchester to Manchester, 99km
The Tour of Britain Women will conclude with stage 4's 99km race in the Manchester area. It will begin at the National Cycling Centre, the home of British Cycling, and will conclude at Leigh Sports Village. It offers one intermediate sprint and two categorised climbs.
The counter-clockwise route heads northeast to Oldham shortly before riders face the first climb of the day; a 2.72km long ascent with an average gradient of 5.5% called the Delph to Grains Bar climb.
The second climb of the day is at Ramsbottom Rake; a 0.97km short but steep with an average gradient of 9.9%, the climb known locally as “The Rake”.
A fast, flat run into Leigh will set the stage for what is expected to be a spectacular finish to the race where spectators will witness history in action as the overall race winner will be crowned.

British Cycling launches rescue mission for 2024 Tours of Britain
- Governing body in a race to stage June and September events
- Women’s and men’s tours lack routes, sponsors and details
British Cycling has announced a rescue mission to take over running the 2024 men’s and women’s Tours of Britain after the previous promoter went into liquidation, but faces a race against time to stage either event.
Despite having no race routes, sponsorship or stage details finalised, British Cycling said the women’s and men’s races will remain scheduled in their original 2024 dates, of 4-9 June and 1-8 September respectively.
The races will be titled Tour of Britain-Women and Tour of Britain-Men and sit under a new multi-discipline banner of British Cycling Events, which will also include offroad, urban and track disciplines and focus on “tackling inequalities” of social justice, social mobility, social cohesion and inactivity.

The takeover plans follow the governing body’s acrimonious split with the Tours’ former promoter, Sweetspot, over £700,000 of unpaid licence fees. The unprecedented situation has created what British Cycling’s chief executive, Jon Dutton, called “an opportunity to build momentum and credibility and to engage with a new audience and communities”.
“In working through the untenable situation we found ourselves in, we thought long and hard about bringing everything together,” Dutton said. “As a not-for-profit organisation, money that we bring in is invested back into cycling, which is why the debt outstanding hurts so hard.”
Dutton, who described both events as “multimillion-pound races”, acknowledged that the old financial model, heavily dependent on local authority funding, is now likely to change, but was unable to offer clarity on where future investment might come from.
“The financial position BC finds itself in is tough,” he said. “The only way to replenish our reserves is through growth and that will not happen overnight. We have to deliver new things and manage risk.”
Their task is complicated by outstanding debts for race policing, team prize money and also to local authorities, such as the Isle of Wight. Dutton said, however, that both races retain support and goodwill from stakeholders around the country.

Lizzie Deignan, winner of the women’s Tour of Britain in 2016 and 2019, and the Tour de France stage winner Tom Pidcock – as well as the latter’s team, Ineos Grenadiers – have pledged their support for British Cycling’s initiative.
“As a kid who grew up watching the Tour of Britain, there is always something incredible about seeing elite cyclists racing around your own country,” Pidcock said. “It’s an important race for everyone in the British cycling scene – the clubs, the fans, British riders and the next generations of homegrown talent.”

Tour of Britain future secured after British Cycling’s ‘UK£20m’ deal with Lloyds Bank
Banking group becomes governing body's lead partner in new five-year agreement..

British Cycling, the sport’s national governing body, has agreed a “landmark” multi-million pound title sponsorship deal with Lloyds Bank that will help secure the future of the relaunched Tour of Britain events.
The governing body’s chief executive, Jon Dutton, said the arrangement – which is believed to be worth close to UK£20 million (US$25.46 million) over the next five years – was “one of the biggest deals in British sport in recent years”.
Lloyds becomes the title sponsor of the Great Britain cycling team going into the Paris 2024 Olympics, and as well as the Tours of Britain, some of the money will go towards talent identification programmes, in addition to launching new BMX and track cycling events.
This year British Cycling has taken the organisation of the men’s Tour of Britain and a new-look Tour of Britain Women in-house following the collapse of organiser SweetSpot , and Dutton said the new deal “significantly mitigates” the financial risk of staging the races.
“We’re absolutely delighted,” Dutton said. “This is a landmark deal, game-changing. We’re very proud to partner with a great British institution and someone who shares our values to make a difference in the world of cycling.”
British Cycling has been without a title sponsor since its deal with HSBC ended after the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, and a continuing eight-year partnership signed with Shell in October 2022 remains highly controversial – the subject of a guerilla advertising campaign only this week.

HSBC’s deal had been worth around UK£8 million (US$10.19 million) per year, but around 50 per cent of that was ring-fenced for mass participation city events. HSBC used a break-clause to terminate its eight-year deal at the mid-point, albeit extending it by a further year to cover the delayed Tokyo Olympics.
Attempts to find a replacement stalled in a difficult commercial market and amid the negative publicity brought by the tribunal into former British Cycling team doctor Richard Freeman.
In early 2021, Freeman was found guilty of ordering banned testosterone “knowing or believing” it was for an unnamed rider to improve their performance.
Dutton said British Cycling had “talked about some of the things that happened in the past, outside our control, but we’ve moved on and this is a step forward into a bright new future.”
“This partnership in a very challenging commercial landscape has not been through luck or good fortune but through a number of actions we’ve taken over the past few months,” he said.
“We decided to come out-of-market last summer, to bring everything in-house and define our new narrative and storyboard, and it’s all been about bringing the joy of cycling to everyone.”

British Cycling looks to enter new Tour of Britain era with Lloyds deal
The British Cycling governing body has today unveiled a major, long-term commercial partnership with the UK bank Lloyds.
Lloyds will immediately take up the position of title sponsor for the new Tour of Britain events which will begin in June with the first women’s edition, as outlined by a major events unveiling in February.
The agreement has been called one of the largest such commercial deals in UK sport covering a national governing body, worth a reported £20 million ($25 million).
Lloyds will sit at the top of the British Cycling commercial list in terms of the new tour, followed by a range of partners underneath (some of them yet to be announced). It becomes the first British Cycling lead commercial partner since global bank HSBC - that relationship ended in mid-2021, earlier than had originally been planned when an eight-year deal was struck in 2016.
It effectively gives commercial viability to the Tour of Britain, which was taken in-house by British Cycling late last year after the body split with previous event organizer SweetSpot (last year’s events were canceled after a title sponsor could not be found). SweetSpot subsequently went into liquidation .
In addition to the Tour of Britain element, Lloyds has secured title partnership rights for all British Cycling national series and national championship events, while the company logo will also feature on the team kit of the Great Britain cycling team.
Lloyds returns to the sports sponsorship market after a lengthy gap - their last move in this sector came as a commercial partner of the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
As well as putting its name to the Tour of Britain, Lloyds will title-sponsor “a suite of pioneering new events” to be organized by British Cycling under a five-year event plan detailed earlier this year.
This list includes an international urban cycling festival featuring BMX freestyle, and “the development of a national track league concept.”
Speaking at a virtual media briefing, British Cycling chief executive Jon Dutton ( appointed to that role last April ) said: “This deal is part of a bright new future - the history of British Cycling [referring to the SweetSpot issues] is well-documented, this presents an opportunity to behave and engage with our audience in a different way.
“Working with the board, we’ve made a bold and brave decision to take the tours in-house, there’s obviously an element of risk involved in that.
“We’ve been forward-looking, that’s taken some bravery … We want to behave in a modern way, and to engage with a younger audience … It’s about looking forward, not back.”
The previous Tour of Britain title partner was AJ Bell, the online investment platform, covering the 2022 races .
Back in February, Dutton said at that point that “commercial sponsorship will be a vital part of the cocktail of funding that will be needed to stage the two races,” and that conversations were beginning then.
Darren Henry, commercial executive at British Cycling, commented, meanwhile, that “this has come about quickly and we’ve been working at an incredibly fast pace to get it done.”
He added: “Lots of planning has already gone into various activations. This is taking control of our own destiny.
“Coming out of the market to redefine our commercial assets, and then going back to the market with a completely new proposition and brand, that’s all been very deliberate. Testament to that is the time - or lack of - we’ve taken to agree this deal.
“We definitely saw a good response to us going back to the market - with a fresh approach, involving the creation of new assets, such as new events, this message is definitely resonating.
“This is the start - we’ve got a number of conversations at a very advanced level which we’re looking to announce very soon as well.”
Henry also said there “will be plenty of opportunities for other brands to engage,” and that some of these would be non-endemic.
With the first edition of the new Women’s Tour of Britain set to begin in less than a fortnight, there has also been speculation over broadcast rights to the new-look event.
It is understood that all four stages will be covered live on free-to-air TV in the UK and that there will be further information on this front in the next week.
"British Cycling looks to enter new Tour of Britain era with Lloyds deal" was originally created and published by Sportcal , a GlobalData owned brand.

Tour of Britain 2024 Stages and Routes
The first details of the 20th edition of the modern race will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Following the cancellation of the 2021 edition owing to the death of Her Majesty The Queen, organisers SweetSpot will continue to work with the local authorities who were due to host stages to explore opportunities to host the race in the future.
One of the most highly anticipated professional cycling events in the United Kingdom is all set to kick off in the first week of September. The Tour of Britain is gearing up for its 2021 edition, which will also be the 14th edition since the reincarnation of the event with several changes in 2004. The cycling Tour of Britain route was unveiled back in February 2021 with the addition of a time trial stage. It now means that the Tour of Britain 2021 has nine stages compared to 8 in recent years. Even those eight Tour of Britain stages were a bump up from the five stages the event used to have in 2004.
The Surprising Route
Tour of Britain 2021 race director Mick Bennett unveiled the cycling Tour of Britain route in the hope of keeping up with the recent momentum of popularity gathered by the event. Several changes to the Tour of Britain stages over the last few years have made it more competitive and brought it to the levels of Tour de France or Vuelta a Espana. Attracting the best riders in the world to the United Kingdom is one of the sole objectives of this event.
George Square in Glasgow will form the location for the start of the 2021 edition. The nine Tour of Britain stages will see riders cover just over 1300 km from September 4 to September 11. This will certainly take its toll on the riders, but there is a consensus that the 2021 edition will be slightly easier than the 2015 edition. Furthermore, there is an opportunity for riders to make use of every Tour of Britain stage to prepare well for the upcoming World Championships in Qatar. This reason alone is expected to increase general interest amongst riders in the competition.
Tour of Britain 2021 – Challenging Parts
The upcoming competition brings a lot of aspects like challenging races and sprint finishes. These are aspects which will have a lot to do at the World Championships. Glasgow last played host to the start of the event back in 2008. It provides a sprint finish to the Castle Douglas since there is no prominent climbs along the way. Stage two goes through various sections of the enchanting Lake District, which may not offer anything out of the blue for experienced riders. The Lake District has been a standard fare of the Tour of Britain in recent years. Even though much of the route will be familiar, riders will have to be prepared for the climb from Ambleside towards the end of the stage.
Stage three at the Congleton marks the beginning of the tough stages. As expected, the stage four takes its toll since it is the longest. As the competition enters into the final stages, riders go through Wales and Bath before a time trial event near London. The final stage will be a replica of the final stage in 2015, which received a lot of rave reviews. Each stage is tough and this will be on the minds of punters when it comes to Tour of Britain bet online.
The growing popularity of the event has also resulted in a number of punters looking for good Tour of Britain bet online opportunities. These opportunities are presented because of the Tour of Britain 2021 odds, which are once again leaning towards the favourites like Alberto Contador. Even though it makes a lot of sense to make an early judgement, Tour of Britain 2021 odds at a later stage will provide a more accurate picture about the favourites for the title.
