We are a group of seniors starting from Clark/Angeles City. I wanted to know the relative locations of (1) Puning Hot Springs (2) Where does the route of 4×4 jeep ride to Puning Hot Springs mentioned above start? (3) Where does the route of doing a hike to the Mt. Pinotubo crater lake start if we do a 4×4 drop off to the mid point? We have some who want to hike the 2 hour one-way hike, and those who would not like to do so due to age. Is it feasible to plan (a) Group 1 does Mt. Pinatubo short hike (4 hour two way) with 4×4 drop off and then go to Puning Hot Springs for a dip in the thermal pool and sand spa – how much comfortable time to provide for the tour?; and (b) Group 2 does 4×4 4×4 jeep ride to Puning Hot Springs and spends the day in Puning Hot Springs (thermal pool dips, spa, food and cultural show? We are visiting in November 2022. Thanks in advance.

Hey Anand, they are in different locations/provinces. The jump-off to Puning Hot Springs is in Brgy. Sapang Bato, Angeles City, Pampanga while the jump-off to the Mt. Pinatubo Crater trek is in Capas, Tarlac. I suggest to do them in separate days.

We are arriving in Cebu Mar 15 @ 1am (staying 2 days) to do canyoneering. I want to go to El Nido (doing tour A & C) and maybe glamping in Nacpan and Boracay. We are departing from CRK Mar 28 late night. In what order should we travel? Do we have time to fit another island? Blue water and some activities are our interests.

February 28, 2024 at 9:22 pm

I suggest you do the island hopping first in Palawan and then go to Boracay to do more relaxed activities. If you’re departing from Cebu Airport, you can go on a day or overnight trip to Panglao & Bohol.

Day 1 • Flight to Great Falls, Montana

After arrival at your hotel in the historic town of Great Falls, Montana, our own Corps of Discovery will gather to discuss our upcoming activities and the history of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. You will enjoy a Welcome Reception and group dinner at the hotel.

Day 2 • Great Falls and Fort Benton

After breakfast, you will stop at a Lewis and Clark monument overlooking the Missouri River, and then you are on our way to Fort Benton, often called “The Birthplace of Montana.”

From there, you will go to Decision Point at Loma, a pivotal location on the Corps of Discovery Trail. Here, Lewis and Clark made the crucial choice about which river to follow to reach the Northwest Passage — take the Marias or continue on the Missouri.

You will visit historic Old Fort Benton, the trading post for many Native American tribes and trappers, as well as the Missouri River levee. Fort Benton was the endpoint of steamboat travel between St. Louis and the west. You will also stop at the Agriculture Museum to view the Hornaday Bison.

You then return to Great Falls and The Lewis and Clark Trail Interpretive Center. Situated beside the Missouri River, the Center features indoor and outdoor exhibits that Stephen Ambrose called “outstanding—the best anywhere.” They include dioramas that depict the explorers, Sacagawea and her son Pomp, an Indian village, and many artifacts. A drive along the river end at Giant Springs, where you will see a stunning view of the Falls.

Day 3 • Helena, Montana

You will begin the day with a visit to the C.M. Russell Museum. Russell was a world-renowned artist whose intimate knowledge of the American West informed his art during his lifetime. He was the first artist who actually lived most of his life in the Cowboy West and created approximately 4,000 works of art that inspired the work of many artists who took the West as their muse. Afterwards, you will visit the First Peoples Buffalo Jump, a site of prehistoric bison hunts.

In the afternoon, the group travels by bus to the five-mile canyon that Meriwether Lewis christened the “Gates of the Rocky Mountains.” You will take a boat ride into the magnificent Gates of the Mountain, where you can spot bighorn sheep, deer, bald eagles, and osprey, who still call it home.

Day 4 • Helena and Three Forks, Montana

You will begin the day at the Montana State Capitol in Helena, an outstanding example of architecture at the turn of the 20th century. The building, recently refurbished, features a beautiful stained-glass skyline in the rotunda and a great deal of artwork, including Russell’s mural depicting Lewis and Clark and the Flathead Indians at Ross’ Hole, Montana.

You will then visit the Three Forks Headwaters State Park, where upon arrival, Meriwether Lewis recognized it as “an essential point in the geography of this western part of the Continent.” You will end the day with a visit to the renowned Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman to take in the excellent exhibit on Crow Indian culture, Apsáalooke Women and Warriors.

Day 5 • Lemhi Pass on the Continental Divide and Salmon, Idaho

Our Corps’ day begins with a drive to Whitehall, Montana, and its marvelous murals of the expedition, and on to the Beaverhead Rock, which Sacagawea recognized as a landmark close to Shoshone tribal lands. You will then head to Camp Fortunate, where Lewis and Clark made critical first contact with the Shoshone—Sacagawea’s own people.

Your next stop is Lemhi Pass on the Continental Divide and the Missouri River headwaters. You will walk over the Divide in Lewis’ footsteps and down to where he first drank from the waters of the Columbia River.

The day ends with a dinner cruise on the “River of No Return” at Salmon, Idaho.

Day 6 • Missoula, Montana

The day begins with a short drive along the Salmon River, exploring the route that William Clark found too wild to navigate.

You will continue with a visit to the Big Hole Battlefield National Monument, where in 1877, Chief Joseph and the Nez Perce put up a fierce defense in one of the battles between the tribe and U.S. Cavalry troops. You then travel north to Ross’ Hole, where Lewis and Clark encountered the Montana Salish Indians. You end your day at Traveler’s Rest on Lolo Creek, where Lewis and Clark camped, traveling west in 1805 and again in 1806, where they split up to explore Montana further.

Day 7 • Lewiston, Idaho

Your day will begin with a stop atop Lolo Pass and the Corps’ Glade Creek Campsite, which Stephen Ambrose helped to preserve in its wilderness condition. After brief stops at the DeVoto Cedar Grove and Heart of the Monster, a key Nez Perce cultural site, we will proceed to Kamiah, where the Corps camped on their return trip to wait for better traveling weather.

You will then head to the “Canoe Camp” in Orofino, Idaho, where the Corps built five dugout canoes for their downstream journey to the Pacific Ocean. Your last stop is a visit to the Nez Perce National Historical Park, dedicated to the tribe’s rich culture.

Day 8 • Walla Walla, Washington

This day will start at the Hells Gate State Park on the border of Idaho and Washington. The park commemorates several pivotal moments in the history of the American West through interpretive signage and hiking trails.

You will then proceed to Walla Walla, stopping along the way at three important Lewis and Clark sites: the Alpowai Village site at Chief Timothy State Park, the Patit Creek campsite near Dayton, Washington, and the Touchet River campsite near Waitsburg.

Your day ends at the Whitman Mission National Historic Site, a 19th-century memorial to the unique challenges presented by the cultural divide between Christian missionaries and Native American tribes.

Day 9 • Hood River, Oregon

The morning will start at Sacajawea State Park, where the Snake River meets the Columbia, and a major site where Lewis and Clark encountered the Yakama and Wanapum Indians. From there, it’s down the Columbia, stopping along the way at Hat Rock State Park, near where the Corps met the Walla Walla Indian people, and then to Celilo Falls and the start of the Long Narrows – among the most important ancient fishing sites of the Columbia River basin. You’ll visit the Rock Fort Camp in The Dalles, Oregon, and then the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center, with its excellent Lewis and Clark exhibit. You will finish the day with a short trip along the original U.S. Highway 30 with spectacular views of the Columbia River Gorge.

Day 10 • Astoria, Oregon

We’ll begin the day in the Cascades section of the Columbia River and the remnants of the immense 17th century landslide which caused the Bridge of the Gods, a geological phenomenon correctly observed by Lewis and Clark. You’ll visit the Bonneville Dam, constructed as part of FDR’s “New Deal” program of the 1930s, and then move downstream to the Sandy River, Lewis and Clark’s “Quick Sand River” and a landmark of major importance in both the 1805 and 1806 voyages on the Columbia. From there, you’ll head on to the river’s massive estuary, and finally the Pacific Coast, stopping along the way at Dismal Niche, the Station Camp site where Lewis and Clark encountered bands of eager Chinook Indian traders, and finally Cape Disappointment, where the captains beheld the Pacific Ocean.

Day 11 • Portland, Oregon

Your final day will begin at the Astoria Column, where a towering observation deck allows visitors breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and the Columbia River. You will then visit the Columbia River Maritime Museum, dedicated to artifacts related to the exploration of the Pacific Northwest. Then it is on to Fort Clatsop, the reconstructed 1805-06 winter encampment of the Corps of Discovery, and the terminus of Corps’ westward expedition. From there, you will continue to Seaside, where you will enjoy the sights of beautiful coastal town and visit the Salt Works National Historic Site, where men of the Corps spent six weeks boiling sea water for 28 gallons of needed salt.

Your final stop will be in Cannon Beach, site of the famous beached whale which provided the Corps with a welcome winter diversion from the dreary chores at Fort Clatsop.

The evening ends in Portland, Oregon, where we will salute our trip with a farewell dinner.

Day 12 • Flight Home

This morning, our Corps will say goodbye to the Pacific Northwest and our Lewis and Clark adventure.

THE TOUR for those interested in the Lewis and Clark Expedition

I second all the comments made so far about this tour. Starting in Great Falls, MT, was a perfect beginning. We got to experience the plains, the Missouri above the falls, the Rockies, the valleys in between, the arid plateaus of Washington and Oregon, the temperate rainforests of the Cascades, and the broad Columbia river emptying into the Pacific. Dams and other modernizations may have changed the landscape somewhat, but we still were able to get a good feel for what Lewis and Clark recorded in their journals. Our historian, Dr. Don Snow, was tireless in telling us the complicated story of the expedition, and the tour director, Nick Scramuzza, shepherded us through all the tour logistics with aplomb and humor. This is a unique tour and fulfilled a dream of mine to see what Lewis and Clark saw.

Following Lewis & Clark to the Sea

The tour, which carried our tour group through some of the most scenic terrain in the Great Northwest, was much more than a sightseeing trip over the terrain where the Corps of Discovery passed. Don Snow, our tour guide, covered countless details regarding “the world’s greatest camping trip”, including information about the numerous Native American tribes they encountered. For the first time, I gained an appreciation of how very different the tribes were and how Meriwether Lewis managed to communicate with them – with the invaluable help of Sacajawea and Charbonneau. The hotels we stayed in varied in quality The Whitman Hotel in Walla Walla was at least a four star, and the meals in Helena were particularly outstanding, but all the hotels were satisfactory for sometimes-tired travelers. Nick, the tour manager, is truly a man with HEART. He looked after every person in the group with energy and genuine caring. Because of delays caused by COVID and forest fires, my wife and I waited three years for this tour. It was well worth waiting for.

Wonderful in every way

Marvelous. Terrific combination of history and nature and cultural background. Our historian was full of information and every day had a mix of hiking, viewing artwork, enjoying great food, on and on. Our tour director had a great sense of humor and provided his own lively stories too.

If you’re even moderately active, definitely take the optional 3 day canoeing and camping extension. You see the river from the river. The tents and food are great.

This was our first Stephen Ambrose tour and it won’t be the last.

I arrived for Clark and caught the end of DJ Tiberio's set. It was interesting, and I'm not sure how to categorize or describe the character of his playlist...some kind of two-step imposed sharply against noisy melodic ambiences. He had engaging visuals projected on a large screen behind him, wandering footage of - I believe - the back alleys of Los Angeles. It was a good warm up.

Clark went on at 10:00pm, immediately opening a paintbox of rich music that was raw, powerful, and vivid. He utilized the same screen, his visuals more intense, strobing, and abstract.

Most of the material was from his two most recent releases...there was also some Turning Dragon. It's not clear to me how he manages his sets, what the interactive element is. It seems as though he mixes bits and pieces of his tracks using some sort-of hardwired digital manipulation, like dedicated samplers, or something. I didn't see any laptops, anyway. (Laptops suck onstage!)

So he seemed to be able to affect the mix at track-level, and generally highlight and explore various passages far beyond what is presented on the original recordings. Which is to say that the sound was fresh and natural while still being recognizable.

I love Clark...he is one of the very best electronic composers on the circuit right now, right alongside Aphex Twin and perhaps even rivaling him...he may be in fact Richard's only contemporary rival. I first saw Clark years ago at the Echo in Los Angeles and at that time he was still very much an up-and-coming student of the Warp school. Now...he has come into his own in a beautiful, magical way that is really, clearly, all his and no one else's.

A must see if you love electronic music! Thank you Clark.

Clark live is the electronic genius that I hold up to as an example for upandcomers. When he's playing, preferably fairly elevated, he looks like and is a master of his sounds, with a musical neurological pulse storming through his arms and into his spindly fingers (see the cover artwork for his remixes album Feast/Beast to see what I mean). While you expect some beauty, what I saw was a pretty brutal, varied, heavy and progressive set. It calls for headbanging, honestly.

Clark put on a great show. He played some old tracks mixed with new ones and I was definitely not disappointed with his song selection. He gets real weird and saturated with a lot of sounds, but then brings it back down to a simple melody. Highly recommend seeing Clark live, the music and the light show were awesome.

11/10 show. The dancers were unexpected, talented, exciting, and made for a rich, live, visual experience. The music was better than expected, and I expected to be blown away.

We’ll make a stop at the Exit Glacier Nature Center before embarking on a guided hike of the area to learn more about Alaska’s fascinating glaciers. In the afternoon, we’ll learn about Alaska’s coastal environment with a special visit to the Alaska SeaLife Center , a marine wildlife and maritime museum. The center’s spectacular two-story aquarium allows visitors to watch playful and charismatic puffins dive and “fly” underwater with grace and ease. A half-day marine wildlife cruise will allow us to explore the rugged coastlines. In the spirit of adventure and to take advantage of tidal and weather patterns, guides will discuss specific nature outings and options with our group this morning. All activities are suitable for beginners and require no previous experience. For those seeking a more relaxed approach, the main lodge offers ideal comfort with direct views of nature. Curious sea otters and seals frequent the lagoon, just steps from the main lodge deck. In a nearby meadow, we can sometimes glimpse bears and other wildlife from a safe distance. The natural history library offers amazing resources and interesting reads. Upon return to the main lodge, we’ll share stories from our day’s adventure with other guests and join local expert guides or guest speakers for a natural history presentation in the evening. Along the way, there will be ample opportunity to photograph the sheer cliff walls teeming with birds, plants and other vegetation and scan for more marine wildlife. As we try to spot feeding humpback whales or harbor seals sunning themselves on ice chunks, we’ll learn how NPCA is building strong partnerships to protect the park and its marine and coastal animals from climate change. We’ll return to Anchorage this evening aboard the historic Alaska Railroad and enjoy the spectacular scenery on our rail journey, with Gold Star seating in domed viewing cars, with a delicious dinner served on board. How To Choose a Tour Company

How do you find just the right travel company — and itinerary — for that trip of a lifetime?

Tips To Find the Best Tour Company

The team at Clark Deals loves to search for the best travel deals and share them with you.

Here are some of our top tips to find the best tour company:

We like to start by searching   TourRadar.com and TravelStride.com . As soon as you enter the region you are interested in touring, you can get started. But you can customize further including by travel dates, budget and even your travel style. Then you can compare features and prices side-by-side. The results will suggest tour operator company names — including local companies and small mom-and-pop touring groups that might offer the greatest expertise.

Companies like Intrepid (a leader in sustainable and responsible travel) and G-Adventures tend to have a broader age range and an international clientele, while Contiki focuses on the 30 and under crowd.

Other top tour groups are:

  • Tripmasters
  • Road Scholar
  • Adventures by Disney
  • Thomson Family Adventures

Before you book, always verify that the tour company is an established and credible provider. To do that, start with a little sleuthing. We love the online review community Trustpilot ( Review ) as well as the Better Business Bureau ( Review ).

Also, ask your travel-loving friends about which travel companies they love — and which ones to avoid.

Tips To Find the Best Tour for Your Trip

Now that you have found a travel company that meets your needs, it is time to select your tour.

Interested in taking an African safari or nature trip? When it comes to wildlife and your safety, pay extra attention to reviews and don’t skimp on safety. Also consider the most inclusive tours that bundle the per-person price for all accommodations, meals, drinks, tours, transfers, etc.

But maybe an organized guided group tour isn’t your bag? There are ways to meet up with the best on-the-ground guides on an independent or self-guided trip at TourRadar.com and TravelStride.com.

Also, look at Viator.com and GetYourGuide.com . Both are online marketplaces that list all kinds of local tours from one-hour to full-day and multi-day excursions offered by various providers (private tours, too). And both are good places to check out for trip ideas and what not to miss during your visit.

Do your homework. Grab your travel mate and make a list of what your needs and wants are for your dream trip.

Travel Tour Discussion Checklist

  • What is the per-person budget?
  • Do you want to add a specific focus to the trip such as biking, walking, food, culture, history, sailing, or skiing?
  • What’s your activity level? Go nonstop all day or easy-to-short walking distances?
  • Consider an age group focus. Under 35? Older than 60?
  • What size group? 12-24 on a mini-coach or 40-60 on a mega-motorcoach? (Check my note on this below.)
  • What does the tour offer?
  • Is airfare included?
  • Are all transfers included? Airport to hotel and reverse?  And what about the transportation to a day tour meeting point?
  • Are any meals included?
  • Are there additional costs for optional activities such as theme dinners, side trips to a village, night tours?
  • Are your accommodations city center for easy independent sightseeing? Is the hotel quality 3-star? Or 5-star?
  • What is the balance of driving or traveling each day vs sightseeing and activities?
  • Do you get/want any free time for shopping, strolling or museum visits?
  • Is there a single supplement fee to travel solo?
  • Is my deposit nonrefundable if I must cancel or my travel mate can’t travel?
  • What are the general cancellation policies?

Special Note on Group Size : I’d like to make an important note about the size of your group. The larger groups increase the odds of traveling with a perpetually late traveler or a complainer. A big group may also limit where you might share a meal or spend the night. Mega-coaches often can’t fit into small villages — which could mean tourist restaurants and hotel chains. If you want a more local experience, it often helps to go with a smaller group.

Final Thought

A final word: To protect yourself, always pay with a credit card! And, strongly consider buying third-party travel insurance . Then, research coverage plans at InsureMyTrip.com . We have a step-by-step guide on InsureMyTrip here .

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese record-setting seasons continue to fuel WNBA Rookie of the Year debate

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese both have been having history-making rookie seasons on and off the court and their performances continue to fuel debates around the WNBA Rookie of the Year race

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese both have been having historic rookie seasons on and off the court and the their performances continue to fuel the debates around the WNBA Rookie of the Year race.

The pair came into the league highly touted and haven’t disappointed.

Despite the record-setting play by both players, Clark is still the favorite to win the league’s Rookie of the Year award, according to BetMGM Sportsbook . Clark and Reese meet for the final time during the regular season on Friday when the Indiana Fever take on the Sky in Chicago.

Clark continued making headlines Wednesday night. After setting the rookie assists record on Aug. 18, the Fever guard set the rookie record for made 3-pointers in a win against the Connecticut Sun.

She is averaging 18 points, a league-leading 8.1 assists and 5.7 rebounds. Clark is on pace to break the overall assists record for a single season. She also has had at least 15 points and five assists in 22 games this season, more than any WNBA player ever.

Clark has helped lead the Fever to the most wins they’ve had since 2016 and the team is in position to make the playoffs for the first time since that season.

“She’s got special, special skills and those open things up for her,” said all-time assist leader Sue Bird. “Her range unlocks so much for her. Her pace of play, she’s either walking or sprinting, she even made a joke about it. That puts a lot of pressure on defense.”

One downside to Clark’s aggressive play is that it leads to turnovers. In addition to leading the league in assists, she also leads the WNBA in turnovers. But the pros outweigh the cons for Bird, one of the league’s iconic point guards.

“Her ability to find her teammates and create opportunities for her teammates,” Bird said, “it’s the combination of those three things that makes her a threat all the time. So you can never really exhale” when defending Clark.

Reese is getting her work done inside.

The 6-foot-3 forward is the league’s leading rebounder at 12.9 a game — the highest average in league history. She saw her unprecedented streak of three straight 20 or more rebound games come to an end on Wednesday in a loss to Washington. She’s currently tied with Tina Charles for the rookie record with 22 double-doubles this season. The Sky All-Star set the overall WNBA record earlier in the season with 15 consecutive double-doubles.

“They are two separate players having two great years,” said ESPN analyst Rebecca Lobo, who also made her presence felt in the paint as a player. “Not voting for Angel doesn’t diminish the historic season she’s having on the glass. No one has ever done it before. We can appreciate that while also understanding Caitlin Clark has separated herself as Rookie of the Year.”

Both Clark and Reese have areas they can definitely improve on.

Reese’s efficiency around the basket can definitely improve while Clark needs to cut down on the turnovers. Lobo believes both players will get better and that with all the attention on the rookie of the year race, people are paying more attention to their faults as opposed to appreciating the positives of in their games.

“If you didn’t have these happening at the same time people wouldn’t be pointing at the negatives for each player,” Lobo said.

Since 2008, 11 of the last 16 winners of the WNBA Rookie of the Year award have been the No. 1 pick in the draft, including the last two. Clark is looking to continue that trend.

Clark and Reese played on June 16 and drew the largest viewing audience for the league in 23 years. There have been 20 games that have had over a million viewers and Clark has played in all but three of those games. Reese’s game against Las Vegas last weekend drew the third highest viewership of the season.

Clark and Reese have overshadowed other players who are having stellar rookie seasons.

Rickea Jackson of Los Angeles, Kamilla Cardoso of Chicago and Leonie Fiebich of New York would be strong candidates for the top rookie award in any other season. But timing is everything and their impressive first-year campaigns are unfortunately for them colliding with unprecedented seasons by the Clark and Reese.

Caitlin Clark's history tour continued.

The new face of the WNBA smashed another record on Wednesday, setting a new league high for 3-pointers made by a rookie during the Indiana Fever's 84-80 home victory over the Connecticut Sun.

Caitlin Clark made WNBA history and met Simone Biles on the same night

But the real excitement occurred after the big on-court win.

Hallway video footage revealed Clark meeting Team USA Olympic gold medalists Simone Biles and Gabby Thomas.

A beaming Biles hugged Clark, while a laughing Thomas snapped several photos with an overjoyed Fever team.

"It was so exciting," Biles said. "Oh my God. It's like usually the boys will just pass and go, 'Oh.' But they were so excited."

It was a heartwarming moment, as some of the biggest names in US sports suddenly met after a WNBA game.

"EVERYONE WATCHES WOMENS SPORTS," Biles tweeted. "So happy to be able to go support! My first of many WNBA games."

Fans loved seeing Biles and Clark together, and were blown away by getting a private glimpse of interactions that normally happen behind closed doors.

"Safe to say Clark's a big fan of yours," one fan tweeted.

"Thank you so much for going and supporting the Fever GOAT," a second fan posted.

"So glad you and Gabby chose the Fever as your first!" a third fan wrote. "The entire building went wild when they announced you were there! It was one of the loudest cheers I’ve heard."

"Olympic GOAT with future WNBA GOAT," a fourth fan said.

Clark became excited as she began to turn the corner

The Fever have been on a roll since the Olympic break.

Indiana has improved to 15-16 while winning four of five games.

The Fever are in seventh place in the league and staring at a playoff spot.

Clark's squad also beat Connecticut (22-8) for the first time in 12 games.

Biles and Thomas watched Clark score 19 points on 7-of-17 shooting, while dishing out five assists, grabbing five rebounds, collecting a steal and recording a block.

"The squad was ecstatic to meet Simone Biles and Gabby Thomas after our win," the Fever tweeted.

Clark surpassed Rhyne Howard’s previous WNBA record for made rookie 3s in the first quarter.

The basketball phenom added two more and has 88 this season.

Clark already holds the WNBA rookie record for single-game assists, total assists, All-Star Game assists and single-game 3s.

The Fever were overjoyed when they had a chance to meet the USA gold medalists

With Clark bouncing toward a Rookie of the Year honor, she's guiding the Fever to the postseason and earning a friendly hug from Biles, who has four Olympic gold medals and seven total.

Biles is the most decorated gymnast in history and won gold in individual all-around, team all-around and vault during the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Thomas recently won three golds in Paris, including the women's 200m.

Earlier this month, Clark entered LeBron James territory as she kept putting up historic stats .

Clark emerged from the Olympic  break -- she was left off the team in a controversial move -- as the hottest player in her league, scoring 52 points on 17-of-35 shooting with 19 assists and 10 rebounds in back-to-back wins for Indiana.

Through 27 games with the Fever, the 22-year-old Clark was averaging 17.6 points, a league-high 8.3 assists, 5.8 rebounds and 1.4 steals, while shooting 40.9 percent from the field, 32.9 percent on 3-pointers and 89.2 percent from the free-throw line.

James averaged 19.2 points through 27 games -- and he produced those strong numbers as a 18-year-old rookie out of high school in 2003-04.

James, the  NBA 's all-time leading scorer,  stood up for Clark  in April and backed her during the NCAA women's basketball tournament championship game.

Weeks after winning three gold medals and a silver at the Paris Olympics , the U.S. gymnastics great was on hand Wednesday to see Caitlin Clark break the league rookie record for three-pointers in a season as the Indiana Fever defeated the Connecticut Sun 84-80 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

“ EVERYONE WATCHES WOMENS SPORTS ,” Biles wrote on X after the game. “so happy to be able to go support! my first of many WNBA games.”

U.S. sprinter Gabby Thomas , who also won three gold medals in Paris , was there as well. She echoed Biles’ sentiments on X.

“ First WNBA game of many! ” Thomas wrote. “Had so much fun supporting these stars.”

The two Olympians met with the players after the game.

“The squad was ecstatic to meet Simone Biles and Gabby Thomas after our win,” the Fever posted on X , along with a video of player reactions that more than supported the statement.

In the video, Biles tells the players: “You got so excited. Oh, my God. It’s like usually the boys will just pass and be like, ‘Yo.’ But you’re so excited, that was so cool.”

Clark posted a portion of that video in her Instagram Stories, with the caption “lemme fan girl real quick.” She also put four heart emojis under a video Biles had posted of one of Clark’s three three-pointers in the game.

All of that excitement capped a big night for Clark, who finished with 19 points, five points and five rebounds and made WNBA history in the first quarter with her first three-pointer of the game.

With that shot, Clark passed the single-season three-point rookie record of 85, set by Atlanta’s Rhyne Howard in 2022. The overall WNBA record in that category is held by New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu , who sank 128 three-pointers a year ago.

Caitlin Clark gets T for being ‘disrespectful to the game.’ She says WNBA salaries are as well

Caitlin Clark is refreshed after an Olympics snub gave her a month away from basketball. She’s setting records, getting technical fouls and calling out WNBA salaries.

Aug. 19, 2024

Clark already holds the rookie record for assists in a season, which currently stands at 252, and is on pace to break the overall league record of 316, set by Connecticut’s Alyssa Thomas last season.

Unlike Biles and Thomas, Clark did not represent the U.S. in Paris this summer, although one selection committee member said during the Olympics that Clark may have made the cut had the decision been made later in the WNBA season.

“If we had to do it all over again, the way that she’s playing, she would be in really high consideration of making the team, because she is playing head and shoulders above a lot of people,” South Carolina coach and four-time gold medalist Dawn Staley said during NBC’s Olympics coverage earlier this month.

“[She’s] shooting the ball extremely well, I mean she is an elite passer, she’s just got a great basketball IQ, and she’s a little more seasoned in the pro game than she was two months ago.”

After Wednesday, Clark has two more Olympians who can speak on her behalf.

Lake Clark National Park Adventure Tours

The birthplace of Alaska Alpine Adventures, and our favorite national park!

To this day, Lake Clark National Park represents the roots of our enterprise.  Not only is it where we guided our first trip and the base of summertime operations, it is also the backdrop for most of our itineraries and, quite simply, our favorite place on earth to explore.  From white summits of glacier-clad volcanoes, laced ribbons of wild and scenic rivers, endless expanses of verdant tundra, to salmon choked waters of azure lakes, Lake Clark is without equal.  Since its creation in 1980 to protect the amazing scenery, abundant wildlife and traditional lifestyles of its residents, it has been hailed as Alaska’s epitome, and for Alaska Alpine Adventures it remains home.  Lake Clark National Park is situated where the mighty Alaska range collides with the expansive Aleutian Range.  It contains roughly 80 miles of rugged coastline, countless rivers, glaciers, and unnamed peaks.  At just over 4 million acres, Lake Clark is roughly twice the size of Yellowstone National Park and larger than the state of Connecticut.

Dan Oberlatz, owner of Alaska Alpine Adventures, has been exploring Lake Clark National Park since 1992, and thinks it is the finest, yet most under-appreciated wilderness area in the entire national park system.  Not only does Lake Clark National Park offer the rare opportunity to truly explore wilderness that has never seen a human foot print, it is also home to some of Alaska’s most spectacular backpacking, hiking, kayaking, and rafting trips – a few of which are now considered Alaska classics and originally pioneered by founders Dan Oberlatz and Derek Nelson.

In August of 2008, Dan Oberlatz was joined by writer Daniel Duane, an editor from Men’s Journal Magazine, and renowned adventure photo journalist Corey Rich, to write a feature article on threat of the proposed Pebble Mine in Alaska’s Bristol Bay region (See our Pebble Mine page for details). Corey was so impressed with the area, and with Lake Clark National Park in particular, that he is now regards it as “…one of the wildest places on the planet!”

Transgender golfer Hailey Davidson takes one step closer to LPGA card as tour continues gender policy review

A total of 100 players advanced out of the LPGA’s Pre-Qualifying Stage (formerly Stage I) and among them was transgender golfer Hailey Davidson.

“Third time’s a charm!” Davidson wrote on Instagram .

Three years ago, Davidson became the second transgender player to compete in LPGA Q-School, where she did not advance past the first stage. She tried again in 2022, missing the 54-hole cut by a single stroke.

This time around, Davidson tied for 42nd at Mission Hills Country Club with rounds of 72-72-69-71 to finish at 4 under. She now advances to the Qualifying Stage (formerly Stage II) October 15-18 in Venice, Florida. Those who complete the 72-hole event (play all four rounds) at Plantation Golf and Country Club will earn Epson Tour status based on their finish. Those who make the cut will advance to Final Qualifying, which will take place in December.

Amateur Ashley Menne won the Pre-Qualifying Stage with a 16-under total.

Days before the Pre-Qualifying event started, LPGA commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan sent out a memo to LPGA and Epson Tour players regarding the tour’s Gender Policy. Golfweek confirmed that in the memo, Marcoux Samaan stated that the tour planned to conclude a lengthy review of its current policy by year’s end and would implement any updates to the policy before the 2025 season.

The commissioner stated that the tour’s top priority must be to have a policy that provides for fair competition and considers “first and foremost” competitive advantage.

In 2010, the LPGA voted to eliminate its requirement that players be “female at birth” not long after a transgender woman filed a lawsuit against the tour.

Earlier this year, Davidson came within one spot of qualifying for the 79th U.S. Women’s Open, the biggest championship in women’s golf.

Davidson had primarily competed on NXXT Golf until the Florida-based mini tour announced in March – on International Women’s Day – that competitors must be a biological female at birth to participate.

A three-time winner on the tour, Davidson ranked second on the mini tour’s season standings at the time of the ban. She had played nine times this season on the NXXT.

You’ll Flip Over Simone Biles and Gabby Thomas' Meet Up With Caitlin Clark

Paris 2024 olympic gold medalists simone biles and gabby thomas supported caitlin clark and the rest of the indiana fever at their aug. 28 game against the connecticut sun in indianapolis.  .

What’s better than one GOAT? Three GOATs, obviously.

Team USA Olympic athletes Simone Biles and Gabby Thomas —who both nabbed gold medals during the Paris 2024 games in their respective sports—showed their support to Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever by attending their Aug. 28 game against the Connecticut Sun.

In a video shared by the Indiana Fever’s official X account Aug. 28 , Simone and Gabby pose for photos with the team, including Caitlin, forwards Aliyah Boston and Victaria Saxton , and guard Erica Wheeler . The WNBA players naturally expressed a lot of hype for the track star and gymnast’s attendance, cheering and yelling as each team member took a photo.

For their part, Simone and Gabby also showed highlights of the evening on their own social media accounts.

The 27-year-old gymnast shared a video of herself walking into Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis with a huge grin on her face, captioning it, “First WNBA game.”

Simone also included a video of some of the on-court action, and a funny picture of her cocktail beside a stuffed animal of Freddy Fever, the team’s mascot.

Gabby, meanwhile, didn’t hide her excitement over attending the Fever game, either.

In addition to sharing a selfie before attending the game and a picture of some of the action, the 27-year-old also reshared the Fever’s social media post, and a picture of herself and Simone posing with Caitlin, adding three star-eyed emojis.

And while Caitlin is usually one to keep her head in the game, she couldn’t help but gush over the Olympians’ attendance, also adding the Fever’s post to her own Instagram Story writing, “Lemme fan girl real quick.”

The 22-year-old also reshared Simone’s video, which saw her sinking a three-pointer, adding three heart emojis.

Like Simone and Gabby, Caitlin isn’t too far off from her own opportunity to become an Olympian.

After all, the University of Iowa alum being left off Team USA’s basketball team came as a shock to many of her fans. Rest assured though, the star basketball player felt “no disappointment” by the decision.

“I'm excited for the girls that are on the team,” she explained at a press conference in June . “I know it's the most competitive team in the world and I know it could've gone either way.”

Of course, Caitlin also expressed that being cut from the prestigious roster will only motivate her to work harder for London 2028 .

Fever coach Christie Sides later told reporters that upon hearing the news Caitlin had texted her, “‘Hey coach, they woke up a monster.’”

The Caitlin Clark Effect

How caitlin clark has captivated the country and rewritten the ncaa record books one bucket at a time..

Women’s basketball has seen a rocketlike rise in popularity in recent years, and Iowa senior Caitlin Clark — now the NCAA women’s all-time leading scorer — has provided a lot of the fuel.

Excitement has escalated throughout Clark’s run to becoming the No. 1 career scorer in NCAA women’s basketball history. The Iowa superstar accomplished the feat Thursday against Michigan, passing Washington alum Kelsey Plum’s mark of 3,527 points.

Throughout the buildup to the historic feat, Clark’s generational talent brought more eyeballs to broadcasts, fans to arenas and all-around attention to the game. Leading the country in scoring and assists this season, Clark has been described as a “combination of Steph Curry and Pete Maravich,” superstars from different eras in the men’s game. A dynamic scorer with artistic creativity on the court, Clark is also on track to surpass Maravich’s all-time scoring record (3,667 points), as well as former Kansas basketball standout Lynette Woodard’s Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women scoring record (3,649).

Clark is the first Division I player to top 3,000 points, 1,000 assists and 800 rebounds. She's also the first Division I player to record 3,000 points and 1,000 assists in a career. She has 59 career games with at least 25 points, five assists and five rebounds — an NCAA record.

Simply put: She’s a must-watch performer.

The attendance numbers speak for themselves.

  • Before the 2023-24 season even officially started, Iowa broke the women’s basketball all-time attendance record for a single game with 55,646 on hand for its exhibition game against DePaul in Kinnick Stadium, home to Iowa’s football team.
  • Seventeen of Iowa women’s basketball’s 19 all-time sellout crowds inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena have occurred during the past three seasons, with the other two coming in 1985 and 1988.
  • Away from Iowa City, the Hawkeyes have helped sell out or break an attendance record in 30 of 32 games this season. The lone exceptions? The first round and the championship game of the Gulf Coast Showcase on a neutral court in Florida in November.
  • On average, schools that have hosted Iowa have seen an attendance increase over 150% compared with their other home games, the AP reported.
  • This season, Iowa faced sold-out road crowds at Northern Iowa (first time in school history), Iowa State, Wisconsin (program attendance record), Rutgers (first since 2006), Purdue (fourth sellout in program history), Ohio State, Northwestern (first time in program history), Maryland (first since 2016) and Nebraska (first in program history).
  • Vivid Seats released data recently showing that the top five most in-demand NCAA women’s games this year have featured Iowa, the average price of tickets for the Hawkeyes since Clark joined the team in 2020 is up 224%, and the average distance traveled by a fan to watch Iowa play is up 34% from last season.

I came to Iowa with huge aspirations and now I’m getting to play in front of 15,000-plus every single night and that’s so cool. Those are moments that you really can only dream of and now I’m living it every single day of my life and that’s really special.
Bigger than basketball ?? @CaitlinClark22 discusses @IowaWBB 's historic moments and their impact on the community. Watch episode 2 of ROOTED ?? ?? https://t.co/zAvUCpc045 #NCAAWBB pic.twitter.com/82zvop2EAj — NCAA March Madness (@MarchMadnessWBB) February 13, 2024

Clark’s impact has amplified an already upward trend of fan interest in women’s basketball.

The total attendance record for Division I women’s basketball was broken in the 2022-23 season at 8,784,401, which surpassed the previous record by more than 150,000. At the 2023 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship, a tournament-record 357,542 fans attended. This was capped by a sellout crowd of 19,482 at the championship game between Iowa and LSU.

“The spotlight she has put on this sport is amazing,” Northwestern senior captain Jasmine McWilliams said. “Going to the Elite Eight, Final Four, all that last year was first of all great for the Big Ten and showcasing how great our teams are here, but also just showing how great women's basketball is. And the fact that she's selling out all these stadiums everywhere she goes is amazing.”

It’s no coincidence that these historic numbers also included Clark setting the record for the most points in an NCAA tournament (191). She also broke the tournament record for the most made 3-pointers (32)

Those who can’t witness a Clark show in person — or are unable to pay for the skyrocketing secondary market ticket prices — have tuned into the Iowa broadcasts in high numbers.

The 2023 national championship game, which featured a star-studded LSU squad against Clark and the Hawkeyes, drew an average of nearly 10 million viewers. This represented a 103% increase from the 2022 women’s championship. The 2023 title game also shattered the ratings record for a women’s college basketball game, besting the 5.7 million viewers for UConn vs. Oklahoma that had held the record since 2002.

This year, Iowa has played games on NBC, Fox and ESPN. An overtime loss at Ohio State on NBC averaged 1.93 million viewers across the network and Peacock, peaking at 3.9 million during overtime. It was the most watched regular-season women’s basketball game on any network since 2010.

Again, Clark’s impact is significant, but those viewership numbers are not a complete outlier. The battle between then-No. 9 LSU and No. 1 South Carolina in late January drew 1.56 million viewers, besting the NBA’s Boston Celtics-Miami Heat matchup in the same window. On Super Bowl Sunday, Iowa-Nebraska drew 1.77 million viewers on Fox - a network record for the sport - while South Carolina-UConn averaged 1.05 million viewers on ESPN. The sport’s rising viewership numbers made it a coveted part of ESPN’s new eight-year media rights deal with the NCAA for 40 championships. With the significant increase in value of the new agreement, NCAA members will explore revenue distribution units for the women’s basketball tournament.

Still, there’s no doubting the unique impact Clark is having.

When Iowa took on Maryland on Fox this month, 1.6 million watched and broke a then-network record for the sport. Even more, Fox unveiled a Caitlin Clark Cam, an alternate viewing experience available on TikTok, for the Maryland game. It attracted more than 800,000 viewers.

“She’s the face of college basketball, men and women,” Dan Patrick, national sportscaster and radio personality, said on his radio show.

I want to give a lot of love to superstar Caitlin Clark after she recorded 41 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists in Iowa’s over win over Louisville! She’s the first player ever to record a 40-point triple-double in a men’s or women’s NCAA Tournament game. @caitlinclark22 — Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) March 28, 2023

The gravity of Clark’s stardom has pulled several notable athletes, media and celebrities into the women’s basketball space. Women’s sports icon Billie Jean King and first lady Jill Biden attended the 2023 championship game in Dallas. Actor Jason Sudeikis, star of the show “Ted Lasso,” attended an Iowa game this season alongside WNBA legend Sue Bird. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes of the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs has praised what Clark — a Chiefs fan — is doing to elevate the game multiple times. Several notable WNBA and NBA players have shared their admiration, as well.

Clark also became the first college athlete to appear on the ManningCast, an alternate viewing experience for ESPN’s Monday Night Football games hosted by brothers Peyton and Eli Manning.

All the attention is not only elevating the status of the women’s game overall but also inspiring young girls in the process. Clark regularly signs autographs for young girls after games, many of whom create posters calling out their admiration of the star they travel hours to see play.

“I was that same kid a few years ago,” Clark said. “I remember going to games like this. I remember wanting to high-five, wanting an autograph, wanting to catch a T-shirt. It does make (their) whole week, and it really takes a second out of your day. That’s how I was raised, to go out of your way to show kindness to somebody else.”

2024 Tour Championship Score Predictions: How the Top Golfers Will Fare at East Lake

Iain macmillan | 14 hours ago.

Xander Schauffele lines up his putt on the 8th green during the final round of the 2023 Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club.

The 2024 PGA Tour season will culminate at East Lake Golf Club this week for the Tour Championship.

The top 30 golfers in the FedEx Cup standings will compete for the $25 million first prize. You can read my full betting preview for the event here . Along with my weekly betting preview, I usually also predict the final score for the top 10 golfers. With the Tour Championship's format, it's going to make things a little more tricky considering each player will start a certain amount of strokes under par based on where they finished in the standings.

Even with that being the case, I'm going to do my best to put my predictions to the test. Let's dive into my final score predictions for the top 10 golfers on the odds list this week.

All odds listed below are via FanDuel Sportsbook

Tour Championship score predictions

Winning score: -22

We have a pretty good idea of what the winning score will be at East Lake this week. In the five years that the event has used the new scoring format, the winner has finished at 21 under par. Last year's winner, Viktor Hovland, finished at 27 under par but that score was a bit of an anomaly, beating the second-place golfer by five strokes.

I'm going to predict the winning score goes one stroke deeper than the -21 mark we've seen three of the past five years.

Scottie Scheffler (+110) Score Prediction: -20

For the third year in a row, Scottie Scheffler will enter the Tour Championship in first place, giving himself a lead on the rest of the field. He failed to deliver both in 2022 and 2023 and will feel the pressure of those two events when he tries to win at East Lake for the first time. I think he'll fall short once again.

Xander Schauffele (+230) Score Prediction: -22

If you read my betting preview, you know that I'm picking Xander Schauffele to win this week. Not only has he been the clear No. 2 golfer on the PGA Tour this season, but he has had a fantastic history at East Lake. He finished with the low gross score in both 2020 and 2023 and has never finished outside the top seven. Now is his chance to make one final argument of being the Golfer of the Year ahead of Scheffler.

Hideki Matsuyama (+1200) Score Prediction: -11

Hideki Matsuyama has never had a strong showing at East Lake and now he's coming into the event with an injury that caused him to withdraw from last week's BMW Championship. I have little to no hope that he'll be in contention on the weekend.

Rory McIlroy (+1800) Score Prediction: -16

Rory McIlroy has had some great showings at the Tour Championship, including winning it twice under the new format. With that being said, he's coming into this week in poor form, finishing 68 at the FedEx St. Jude and T11 at last week's BMW Championship. He needs the season to end so he can regroup and return next year with a clear mind.

Ludvig Åberg (+2000) Score Prediction: -10

Ludvig Åberg will be making his career debut at East Lake, which is going to work against him this week. Despite posting a runner-up finish last week, East Lake isn't going to play to his strength as much as Castle Pines did. It's been an impressive season for the young Swede, but he's one golfer I'm staying away from this week.

Collin Morikawa (+3000) Score Prediction: -15

Collin Morikawa is another golfer who is coming into this week's event in sub-optimal form, finishing outside the top 20 in three straight starts and outside the top 15 in four straight starts. The winner of the Tour Championship is more often than not the golfer who is in the best form and is within striking distance of the leader. Morikawa is not that guy this time around.

Keegan Bradley (+3500) Score Prediction: -19

I have more faith in Keegan Bradley this week than most people. Last week's win vaulted him up to No. 4 in the standings, meaning he'll be just four strokes back from Scheffler when he tees off on Thursday. He's a veteran golfer with plenty of experience, including finishing with the 11th best gross score at East Lake last season. Based on his recent form, I wouldn't be surprised if he's in the mix on the weekend.

Patrick Cantlay (+4000) Score Prediction: -21

Patrick Cantlay has won the Tour Championship once already in his career and he's finished inside the top seven in gross score at East Lake in three straight years. He's also posted two straight top 15 finishes heading into this week. He's my pick to be the runner-up to Schauffele this week.

Wyndham Clark (+4500) Score Prediction: -17

Wyndham Clark has been a tough golfer to handicap this season. When he's on, he contends, but his floor is so low that he may leave you pulling out your hair by Sunday. Thankfully, he's in solid form heading into this week finishing inside the top 14 in his last three starts. It's also worth noting he finished with the third best gross score last year in his East Lake debut.

Sam Burns (+5000) Score Prediction: -16

Sam Burns is getting hot. He has posted two straight top-five finishes including a runner-up finish at last week's BMW Championship. He also finished with the fourth-best gross score at East Lake last year. He'll have his work cut out for him to catch the leaders. He'll start the event at -4, six shots back from Scheffler.
