If you don’t want to say “come visit us” to an acquaintance or a colleague, you can always ask them to contact you wherever you wish.

Asking someone to contact you at your office or home is a good way to ask them to visit you without saying it.

For instance, if you met with a potential client and you want them to visit, you can tell them to contact you at your office or home to discuss further.

In this way, you’ve asked them to visit you without saying it directly. Additionally, it’s a formal expression you use with an acquaintance or within a formal environment.

You can always ask someone over to your place without making it obvious that you want them to visit.

If it’s the case that you want a friend or colleague to meet with your family, you can use dinner or lunch to bring them to your place.

One good way to achieve that is by telling them you’re happy to host them at your desired location.

It could be your workplace or your house; if you want someone to visit you, use a dinner or lunch to lure them where you want.

In addition, it’s a polite request that will be difficult to turn down. Also, this statement can both work in a formal and informal setting.

Below is how you can use this statement:

  • We are happy to host you at our house on Sunday
  • We are happy to host you at the office anytime

Won’t You Come and Know…?

Here, you’re tactical by appealing to their emotions. If it’s the case that you built a new home or office and you want friends to visit you, you can blackmail them into doing that.

Or if you’ve got a friend who has never visited you, good blackmail can work too.

A good example is by asking if they won’t come and know your house or office or club or whatever place it is.

A good friend or colleague should be moved and give in. Of course, they wouldn’t want to seem like a bad friend. So, this is a perfect way of asking someone to visit you without actually saying it.

Here’s how to use this expression:

  • Won’t you come and know our new office? You’ve never been there
  • Won’t you come and know where we live?

Another good expression that can work to invite someone over to a place is to ask them to come by.

This is another informal expression that you can politely use in a formal setting.

When you ask someone to come by your place, you’re letting them know that you want them at your place in clear terms.

So, this is the perfect way to ask someone to your place without using the words “come visit us.”

Here’s another tactical approach to inviting someone to your place without making it obvious. When you want someone over to your place, ask them politely if you can talk there.

This approach doesn’t give them plenty of options, especially if they’re your friends, or if it’s your workplace you want them to visit.

For instance, someone who isn’t comfortable with you might turn you down if you ask them to talk at your house. However, if you ask to talk with them in your office, they can hardly say no.

So, if you want someone to visit where you work or live, you can lure them with plans to talk.

Below is a good way to go about it:

  • Can we talk later at the house? This place is noisy
  • Can we talk later at the office? It’ll be a great place to relax and catch on

We’ll Be Delighted to Have You During Thanksgiving

Another tactical approach to asking someone to your place is to lure them during “Thanksgiving.”

“Thanksgiving” is a national holiday in some countries and states. So, it’s a good time to ask for a visit. A good way to go about that is to let them know you’ll be delighted to have them during Thanksgiving.

It could be friends, neighbors, colleagues, acquaintances, or even strangers; when you want someone to pay you a visit at your house, ask them for a “Thanksgiving” lunch.

Due to the nature of the holiday; a time of sharing and giving, people will hardly turn down this visit. So, try this approach when you want someone to visit you but you don’t want to spell it out.

Check Us at…

Another wonderful way you can ask someone for a visit subtly is by using this statement.

When you ask someone to check you out at a particular place, it tells them you want them there. It’s a good approach to use when discussing business with someone or talking casually to a friend or colleague.

For instance, if you want a client to visit your business area, this statement is a good way to make your request known.

This is another informal expression that you can use to make your request. Also, you can use it in a business environment or your workplace.

For instance, if you’re longing to see someone or have someone over at your place, ask them to stop by. This expression sounds like a simple thing to do.

It’s a good approach to use when you know they’ll pass by your place anytime.

Here’s a good way to use this phrase:

  • You can stop by before going to the market
  • Why not stop by on your way back from church so we discuss this better

Crash at Our…

Another way you can ask someone to visit is by asking them to crash at your place.

This is a good approach to use when you know the person doesn’t have plenty of options.

For instance, if you’re both returning from a party and you know your house is closer, you can suggest they crash at your place.

In this way, you’ve got what you want without saying “come visit us.”

  • Why not crash at our place for the weekend? It’ll be easier to get the bus from here
  • You can crash at our place tonight, you can’t drive in this state

My Place is also Your Place, You Can Come Whenever You Like

“Call on us” is another wonderful phrase you can use to ask someone to visit you.

When you ask someone to call you at the office for a discussion, they should come to your office for it. So, in this way, you’ve gotten them to visit if that was your intention.

So, this is a cool way to get someone to visit you if you don’t want to spell it out.

Below are ways to use this expression:

  • Call on us at the office, we can’t discuss this over the phone
  • Make sure to call on us at home, we’ve all you need there

You can also ask someone to drop in at your place if you want them to visit.

Using “drop in” is another good approach to get someone to come by your house or office without sounding obvious. Also, this is an informal expression that tells the person that they’re free to visit anytime.

When someone drops in on you, it means they visit you informally without arranging it.

Here’s how you can use this expression:

  • Why not drop in anytime you’re free
  • You can always drop in whenever you visit the town

other ways to say come visit us

The First is a general Polite farewell. Like, "come by again" , after visiting friends or neighbours. Something you just say, as a required thing to do,a social obligatory behavior. It may or may not be sincere or meaningfull. The listener will consider it as polite, and feel the time spent was amicable and that his/her presence was enjoied . The second , "please", sends out a mensage of want or need .As if you are inviting or being invited to return to a shop, or a restaurant, it is a pledge .It expresses more necessity, therefore , non as casual. All the same, both are much alike, but use the "please" when you really count on the Visitor to return.

Hi, native speakers of English! I'm writing a notice advertising a course. The idea is to pin it to noticeboards around the university campus. After explaining briefly what the course is about, I'd like to finish the notice with the following sentence: If you are interested in [topic of the course] , COME AND VISIT US! My doubt is with "come" and the following verb. Should I write "come and visit us", "come to visit us", or "come visit us"? Somehow I guess the three of them are possible, but I would like to check with you because probably all of them are not equally suitable (remember this is a notice about a course for university students). Thank you in advance.

'Come and visit us' is my preference. 'Come to visit us' would also be OK but I think that 'Come visit us' is too informal.

Hullo LB. Well, first of all I wouldn't use the verb visit ~ that sounds (to me, anyway) too much like you'll be serving sherry and canapés. I'd expect to see on this kind of notice COME AND TALK TO US , without the ! . NB: This is British English. I'm not sure how such a notice would read in the USA, maybe COME TALK WITH US . As far as I know come and + bare infinitive is predominantly BE; AE is more likely to use come + bare infinitive.

Hello, Li'l Bull. Ewie's "Come and talk to us" sounds good to me. Your "Come and visit us" also sounds good. Both sound casual, friendly, and inviting. Both versions would sound as good to me if you omitted "and", but "and" sure doesn't strike me as odd.

I eat my words, Mr O. A question for you: Does Come talk to us sound more informal to you than Come and talk to us ? As Bev said above, it sounds too informal in BE.

I would suggest considering "come and join us".

IMPORTANT NOTICE!!

This is not an invitation for every internet person to visit us. This is for our good friends and family or their good friends or family. Please don't be a random person showing up at our door.

Now that we have that cleared up, let's talk about what we mean when we tell you that we want you to come visit us. Of course, before we go anywhere with this, make sure you let us know your plans. We might not be around, so please let us know first.

Seriously, this is not an empty invitation

When we invite you to come visit, we really mean it! We've been housesitting for nearly two years now staying in other people's houses and we're ready to pay it back! We will have a place in Wales for FIVE YEARS starting this fall. We won't have furniture for it right away, so if you come early, you can help us decorate! But it has four bedrooms, so there will be plenty of room!

It's not that expensive to get to us

We understand that many people are cautious about travel, but the UK is one of the cheapest places to get to in the world! Our round trip tickets that we got at the last minute were only $1200 for the two of us! You can easily find cheaper, though, if you plan ahead. Once here, there's a ton to see both expensive and cheap. Tell us your budget and we'll figure something out.

We don't have to hang out the whole time

It's true! You can use us as a way station to go explore Europe! Flights from London to most anywhere can be found for as little as $30 round trip! Come bring your stuff to us and drop it off, then you can travel light to wherever. Go to Belgium for a few days, then come back and recharge. Maybe we'll be able to take some time off, but if you want to go without us, we completely understand. We tell people to plan to spend about $100 per location and $100 per night. So go to Paris for 3 days/2 nights for $300. It's a good way to guess how much things will cost. Of COURSE, you can pay less pretty easily (or much, much more if you need to travel in style), but it's a pretty good estimate for how much to save up.

Bring your friends!

We're friendly people! You can bring people we don't know. Or heck, send your kids to travel the area for the summer! We're easy! Any friend of yours is a friend of ours, right? (Assuming, of course, that YOU are a friend of ours. NO CREEPERS!)

We have some pretty simple rules to follow: Don't be loud and disruptive. You're on vacation, but we're still working. Be courteous. Don't expect us to drop everything to entertain you. I'm sure we love you, but we still have to live our lives. We can't afford to pay for a lot of extras. We did just move after all. Budget accordingly. We'll probably pick you up from the airport, but be ready to take the bus. Public transport is fantastic in the UK (and other European countries) so be ready to take a bus to our area.

That's about it! If we've invited you to come stay, this is what we mean. Come for a few days or come for months! We reserve the right to send you back home if you're annoying, though. So just be cool, and we'll have a great time! Hope to see you soon!

Judge in hush money trial threatens Trump with jail after holding him in contempt for violating gag order

The judge presiding over Donald Trump’s hush money case on Tuesday held the former president in  criminal contempt  over a series of posts on Truth Social that he said violated a gag order barring any attacks on jurors and witnesses and warned Trump he could be jailed for further violations.

Judge Juan Merchan ruled Trump in contempt for nine violations of his gag order, with a fine of $1,000 for each instance. He warned in the decision that he would not tolerate further violations of the order and said "if necessary and appropriate under the circumstances," he would impose "an incarceratory punishment" on the former president.

The judge explained that because the fines, which are limited by state law, were relatively little in comparison to Trump's wealth, they might be unlikely to deter the former president from abiding by the court's order. Merchan said that while he would prefer to impose commensurately larger fines, he instead had to consider "whether in some instances, jail may be a necessary punishment."

The gag order prohibits the former president from "making or directing others to make public statements about known or reasonably foreseeable witnesses concerning their potential participation in the investigation or in this criminal proceeding," and "public statements about any prospective juror or any juror."

Merchan said Tuesday that his order was "lawful and unambiguous" and that Trump violated it with social media posts about witnesses and public comments about jurors. He ordered Trump to remove seven of the posts at issue from his Truth Social account and two other offending posts from his campaign website by 2:15 p.m. Tuesday.

The judge also said in response to Trump's complaints about the comments of expected witnesses Michael Cohen and Stormy Daniels have made outside court that he might consider modifying the gag order to remove them from its protections if he finds it necessary in the future.

Cohen said in a statement in response to the judge's decision that the small fine "is irrelevant. Judge Merchan’s decision elucidates that this behavior will not be tolerated and that no one is above the law.”

Merchan had indicated on April 23 that he was not impressed by the arguments from the defense, telling one of Trump's attorneys that he was “losing all credibility” when he suggested that Trump was exercising caution to comply with the gag order.

Prosecutors from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office had accused Trump of violating Merchan's April 1 order at least 10 times since it went into effect, including a post that called expected witnesses Michael Cohen and Stormy Daniels "sleaze bags." Another appeared to be a quote from Fox News personality Jesse Watters that read, “They are catching undercover Liberal Activists lying to the Judge in order to get on the Trump Jury.”

The DA sought the maximum $1,000 fine for each post they considered a violation, along with an order that Trump remove the posts. Prosecutors had also asked Merchan to warn Trump that any future violations could be met with additional fines and up to 30 days in jail.

The possibility of Trump's imprisonment is likely to be seized upon by the former president's campaign and supporters — particularly as a fundraising tool. Already, Trump has sent a number of fundraising appeals connected to the trial and the consequences he may face. Last year, his mug shot after he was charged in Georgia over his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election sparked a fundraising bonanza for Trump.

Prosecutor Chris Conroy said during an April 23 morning hearing that Trump “seems to be angling” to be locked up for political purposes.

Trump’s legal team countered that the former president had not willfully violated the order and that he was simply responding to a “barrage of political attacks.”

Pressed by the judge, however, Trump attorney Todd Blanche had trouble identifying what attacks Trump was supposedly responding to. “I keep asking you over and over to give me an example, and I’m not getting an answer,” the judge said.

Trump attorney Emil Bove previously said that some of the posts were responses to remarks by Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer, and that others were reposted from people and news outlets, which he said did not violate the gag order. Merchan asked for case law to back that position, and Blanche said he did not have any. "It's just common sense, your Honor," Blanche said.

Merchan responded to that assertion in his decision Tuesday, saying he had found that "a repost, whether with or without commentary by the Defendant, is in fact a statement of the Defendant."

"The issue of 'reposting' appears to be a question of first impression," the judge wrote. "Lacking legal authority to guide its decision, this Court must, as defense counsel stated at the hearing, rely on common sense. ... Defendant curated the posts at issue and then took the necessary steps to publish the posts on his Truth Social account and on his campaign website. In doing so, he endorsed the posts with one purpose in mind — to maximize viewership and to communicate his stamp of approval.”

Trump has pleaded not guilty to 34 counts  of falsifying business records related to his reimbursement to Cohen for the lawyer's hush money payment to Daniels in the closing days of the 2016 campaign. Daniels claims she had a sexual encounter with Trump in 2006, an allegation he denies.

Trump faces up to four years in prison if he’s convicted.

News and analysis from the day’s top stories., chuck schumer to co-sign mike johnson’s invite for netanyahu to address congress.

come visit us again

By Clarissa-Jan Lim

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has said that he will join House Speaker Mike Johnson in inviting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address Congress.

Schumer, the highest-ranking Jewish member of Congress, sharply criticized Netanyahu in March but intends to co-sign a draft of the invitation that the Republican speaker sent over last month , his office told the Washington Examiner . A spokesperson for Schumer's office said the timing was being worked out.

The development comes after Schumer condemned Netanyahu’s handling of Israel’s war against Hamas, which came in response to Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack that killed 1,200 people. Israel’s retaliatory campaign has destroyed the Gaza Strip and killed more than 34,000 people, a majority of them women and children, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. Israeli officials have said 133 hostages remain in Gaza, though more than 30 are thought to be dead.

In his speech, Schumer called for new elections in Israel and said Netanyahu was a “major obstacle to peace.”

The New York Democrat’s public rebuke of Netanyahu led to intense criticism from Republicans and some Democrats. President Joe Biden — who has urged Netanyahu to do more to protect civilians in Gaza but has continued to approve billions of dollars in military aid without conditions — said Schumer made a “good speech” but did not expressly agree with his sentiment.

Schumer’s criticism was declared at the time to be a “watershed” political moment, and some said it highlighted the historically complicated dynamic between U.S. and Israeli leaders . Nevertheless, Schumer said days later that he would support the Israeli prime minister delivering a joint address to the U.S. Congress.

“Israel has no stronger ally than the United States and our relationship transcends any one president or any one prime minister,” Schumer said in a statement at the time. “I will always welcome the opportunity for the prime minister of Israel to speak to Congress in a bipartisan way.”
