Book Early for the Best Slots

With its rising popularity and limited slots, it’s recommended to secure your Squid Ink appointment as early as possible. Queue up around half an hour before opening time (typically 7pm) on the first day of your voyage to ensure you get an ideal slot.

A pro-tip for planning your session is to aim for a slot towards the end of your voyage. This allows for optimal aftercare and reduces the risk of pool water contamination or sunburn on your fresh tattoo. Your fresh ink will be covered in a specific wrap that is designed to reduce exposure but is no fully resistant.

Piercing Services & Pricing

Beyond tattoos, the parlor also offers piercing services, although it has a limited jewelry selection. Squid Ink source all jewelry from a partner brand, ensuring the same high standard of quality that characterizes Squid Ink’s services. Piercing starts at $95 and do not require booking, keep in mind you must be in international waters (12 miles out at sea) to get pierced.

Tattoo Pricing

Pricing at Squid Ink ranges widely to accommodate various designs, sizes, and complexity levels. Rates start from $200 for a flash tattoo and from $250 for custom designs, this can extend into the thousands for larger, more intricate tattoos. The prices will be higher than your typical land-based parlor so come prepared, however you can use Sailor Loot on your tattoo.

Can’t decide? The Squid Team and artists have expertly crafted a selection of nautical and Virgin themed tattoos that you can choose from, find out more information about the artists here .

Virgin Voyages inks plan to launch tattoo studio at sea

PLANTATION, FL — October 18, 2018 — Virgin Voyages announced today that the company’s first ship, Scarlet Lady, will bring stylish tattoo artistry to the high seas with Squid Ink. To create this one-of-a-kind experience on board, Virgin Voyages has teamed up with the ink industry legends from World Famous Tattoo Ink. “Tattooing is a time-honored seafaring tradition, and we’re continuing that legacy with rock and roll style by bringing some of the best ink artists to sea,” said Tom McAlpin, president and chief executive officer for Virgin Voyages. “Our sailors are looking to make lifelong memories, and we think there's no better way to commemorate their first voyage with us than with a souvenir they'll never lose track of.” When Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady sets sail in 2020, she will have two full time resident tattoo artists on board, handpicked by ink industry legend Lou Rubino Jr., the visionary behind World Famous Tattoo Ink, Soho Ink and Freshly Inked Magazine.   Squid Ink will also feature a star-studded line-up of guest artists including the tattoo industry’s most sought-after trendsetters and celebrity artists. While details and timing are still to come, renowned artists to the likes of Spike TV’s Ink Master star Sarah Miller, surrealist specialist artist Arlo DiCristina and illustrative specialist Jime Litwalk have already committed to a guest artist appearance aboard the Scarlet Lady in 2020. Artists from the World Famous Pro Team have inked celebrities like Nick Cannon, JWoww, Nico Tortorella and Daymond John, among others. All Squid Ink tattoos will be created with World Famous Tattoo Ink original vegan ink, which is globally recognized to exceed safety standards with no animal by-products or testing. In addition to tattoos, Squid Ink will also offer body piercings as well as permanent makeup treatments using vegan-friendly Perma Blend pigments. “The World Famous Tattoo Ink family has been working with sailors, pirates and rock stars for more than 50 years,” said  Lou Rubino Jr., owner of World Famous Tattoo Ink. “As global acceptance of tattoos and body art continues to grow, partnering with Virgin Voyages gives us the unique opportunity to bring color to places people might have never thought possible before. We couldn’t be more excited to leave our mark on the sea travel industry.” True to the Virgin Voyages’ brand design ethos, the “Modern Romance of Sailing,” the inspiration behind Squid Ink is steeped in the traditions of sailing; with many historians crediting the expansion of tattooing to British colonial sailors who picked up the concept from aboriginal tribes while exploring the South Pacific. Squid Ink will feature exclusive voyage tattoos designed by the World Famous Tattoo Ink team for those sailors looking to commemorate their voyage. Virgin Voyages will encourage its crew members to also express themselves freely through tattoos if they wish; in a unique move for the cruise industry, the company has indicated that the hiring of shipboard candidates with visible tattoos is a-okay. To celebrate the news, Virgin Voyages is teaming up with the World Famous Ink team to give away 100 free nautical-inspired micro tattoos this Saturday, October 20, at Soho Ink in Manhattan, 285 Lafayette St, New York, NY 10012, located on the corner of Lafayette and Jersey street. The first 100 participants who head to Soho Ink at 12 p.m. on October 20 will be able to choose one of 10 free nautical inspired micro tattoos to ink themselves with. All who receive one of these tattoos and post about it on Instagram will be entered to win  a free Virgin voyage for two,* with a one in 100 chance to win the grand prize. Sailors who cannot make it to Soho Ink this Saturday, can also enter to win a free voyage (and a free nautical inspired micro tattoo while onboard)* now through November 16, 2018 by visiting www.virginvoyages.com . More details on the new travel brand’s onboard features and experiences will be revealed throughout the coming year. Future sailors and travel partners are invited to check out Virgin Voyages by visiting www.virginvoyages.com or following @virginvoyages on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn.

Virgin Voyages Will Feature the First-Ever Cruise Ship Tattoo Studio

Close-Up Of Mam Making Tattoo On Woman Hand

This new cruise amenity might be going a little, um, overboard.

When Virgin Voyages launches its debut ship, the Scarlet Lady, in 2020, she's going to be equipped with the industry's first seaworthy tattoo parlor.

In a statement , Tom McAlpin — Virgin Voyage's president and CEO — said the tattoo shop, called Squid Ink, is a nod to the "time-honored seafaring tradition" of tattooing.

At Squid Ink, sailors can receive a tattoo (made with World Famous Tattoo vegan ink) or a piercing from one of two resident artists selected by tat master Lou Rubino Jr. A rotating roster of legendary guest artists including Sarah Miller and Arlo DiCristina will also be on deck to deliver fresh ink.

"Our sailors are looking to make lifelong memories," McAlpin said, "and we think there's no better way to commemorate their first voyage with us than with a souvenir they'll never lose track of."

Edgy tattoos are just one way Virgin Voyages is trying to reinvent the cruise industry . All of the line's ships are exclusively for 18-and-up travelers, and the designers tapped have never before worked on cruise vessels. Instead, they're industry titans responsible for luxury hotels, nightclubs, restaurants and even film sets. Another shift from industry standards? Virgin Voyages crew members are permitted, if not encouraged, to flaunt their own tattoos.

Until Nov. 16, travelers can enter for the chance to win a free cruise for two (plus complimentary maritime micro-tattoos at Squid Ink) on the Virgin Voyages website. Fortunately, you'll have a couple years to decide whether you'd prefer a nautical star, a swallow or a figure-eight knot.

Virgin Voyages Announces Squid Ink, the World’s First Tattoo Studio at Sea

Most cruises are designed as decadent retreats where passengers spend a full week doing plenty of things they’ll regret later. From too many daiquiris to stuffing your face at the midnight chocolate buffet to five karaoke renditions of “Kokomo” (because there’s always room for more Beach Boys), there’s no shortage of self-indulgent treats aboard. Now, Virgin Voyages  is offering cruise-goers one more option: getting tattooed at sea.

Virgin Voyages will launch its first cruise ship, Scarlet Lady , in 2020. True to the brand’s young, bold, too-hip ethos, the ship will boast the world’s first-ever tattoo  parlor at sea. Squid Ink — how rad is that name for a sea-based tatt shop, by the way? — will be home to two full-time resident tattoo artists. Both will be personally chosen by legendary artist Lou Rubino, Jr. , the industry pioneer behind Freshly Inked Magazine , Soho Ink, and World Famous Tattoo Ink. The shop will also host a staff of rotating guest artists including tattoo industry celebrities  and trendsetters. So far, they’ve already nailed down Spike TV’s Sarah Miller and surreal creative Arlo DiCristina .

Squid Ink’s tattoos will rely on World Famous Tattoo Ink’s signature vegan ink. The pigments are renowned for their lack of animal by-products or animal testing. The shop will use similar Perma Blend pigments for custom permanent makeup treatments, and body piercings will be available as well.

If the idea of stabbing your body with needles aboard a wave-thrashed ship rocking around the Caribbean Sea  seems like a bad idea, just focus on the romance of sailing the high seas. Tom McAlpin, Virgin Voyages’ CEO, puts it this way: “Tattooing is a time-honored seafaring tradition, and we’re continuing that legacy with rock and roll style by bringing some of the best ink artists to sea. Our sailors are looking to make lifelong memories, and we think there’s no better way to commemorate their first voyage with us than with a souvenir they’ll never lose track of.”

  • Reyka Vodka Announces the World’s First Glacier Bar in Iceland

That’s one way to look at it. Indeed, British sailors are credited by many historians with popularizing tattoo artistry and culture in the West. The tradition was adopted from aboriginal and island tribes around the world. So, just tell yourself that Chinese symbol for “hope” on your ankle is all about history or … something.

For now, details surrounding Squid Ink are thin. Since the shop doesn’t open for another two years, there’s plenty of time to sketch out that mom-in-a-heart-anchor design you’ve been daydreaming about.

Ink and Ocean: The Ultimate Tattoo Experience on Virgin Voyages

Picture this: a tattoo needle buzzing to the rhythm of the ocean waves, inked memories intertwining with the salty breeze...... Michelle Sharp of Coaters & Castles Travel is our guest for this edition and she is going to tell us about a unique experience she just had. Welcome aboard the wild ride of getting ink aboard a Virgin Voyages cruise!

cruise ship with tattoo shop

There are few experiences as memorable as getting inked with a view of the vast ocean stretching out before you. My sister and I recently embarked on a journey with Virgin Voyages, and we knew right away that we wanted to commemorate our adventure with matching tattoos. And where better to do it than on a ship that celebrates the freedom of the open sea?

As soon as we stepped foot on the ship, we made a beeline for the Squid Ink tattoo parlor. With spots filling up quickly, we didn't want to miss our chance. The anticipation only added to the excitement of what was to come.

We quickly learned that scheduling our tattoo session for the night before disembarkation was crucial, especially if we wanted to take a dip in the ocean during our trip. Keeping the tattoo dry is essential for proper healing, so planning ahead ensured we could enjoy every aspect of our voyage without worry.

At Squid Ink, the options were endless. We could choose from their designs or work with the artists to create our own. Being ocean lovers, my sister and I decided on matching tattoos that symbolized our connection to the sea.

cruise ship with tattoo shop

The moment we sat down in the tattoo chair, we were greeted with an incredible view. A massive porthole allowed us to watch the ocean glide by as we were inked. The serene atmosphere was perfect for bonding as my sister and I shared stories and laughs throughout the session.

The tattoo artists at Squid Ink were not only skilled but also incredibly attentive. They took the time to understand exactly what we wanted and made sure every detail was perfect. Their humor and warmth put us at ease, turning what could have been a nerve-wracking experience into one filled with joy and excitement.

Cleanliness and sterilization were top priorities at Squid Ink, which was reassuring when it comes to something as important as getting a tattoo. The facilities were pristine, and we felt confident knowing we were in good hands.

As we left Squid Ink with our fresh tattoos, we couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and gratitude. Not only did we have a beautiful reminder of our voyage, but we also shared a once-in-a-lifetime experience that strengthened our bond as sisters.

For anyone considering getting a tattoo while onboard Virgin Voyages, I can't recommend it enough. It's not just about the ink; it's about the memories made and the stories shared. So, if you're ready to sail into the sunset with a piece of art to remember it by, head straight to Squid Ink and prepare for an unforgettable experience.

Tattoos at sea: Virgin Voyages to feature a tattoo parlor on its first cruise ship

Portrait of Gene Sloan

Add getting a tattoo to the list of things you can do on a cruise ship.

Start-up cruise line Virgin Voyages on Thursday announced its much-awaited first vessel would have a tattoo parlor – an industry first.

To be called Squid Ink, the venue is being designed in partnership with Fort Mill, S.C.-based World Famous Tattoo Ink.

“Tattooing is a time-honored seafaring tradition, and we’re continuing that legacy with rock-and-roll style by bringing some of the best ink artists to sea,” Virgin Voyages president and CEO Tom McAlpin said in a statement accompanying the announcement.

To be called Scarlet Lady, Virgin's first ship currently is under construction at a shipyard in Italy and due for completion in 2020. It'll carry 2,860 passengers.

The tattoo parlor planned for Scarlet Lady will be staffed with two full-time resident tattoo artists handpicked by Lou Rubino Jr., creator of World Famous Tattoo Ink, Soho Ink and Freshly Inked Magazine. It'll also house a rotating line-up of guest artists. Among those who already have committed to working on board are Sarah Miller, star of Spike TV’s Ink Master, and surrealist tattoo artist Arlo DiCristina.

In addition to tattoos, Squid Ink will offer body piercings as well as permanent makeup treatments using vegan-friendly Perma Blend pigments. The outlet also will offer exclusive voyage tattoos designed by the World Famous Tattoo Ink team for passengers looking to commemorate their voyage.

Based in Plantation, Fla., Virgin Voyages is a joint venture between Richard Branson's Virgin Group and Boston-based investment firm Bain Capital. The company has ordered three vessels for delivery between 2020 and 2022.

What Cruise Ship Has a Tattoo Parlor?

By Michael Ferguson

cruise ship with tattoo shop

Tattoo parlors have become increasingly popular in recent years, and now they are even available on cruise ships! Cruise ships offer the perfect opportunity to get a unique tattoo while enjoying a luxurious vacation. Tattoos can be a great way to commemorate a special occasion, such as a honeymoon or anniversary.

The first cruise ship to offer tattoo services was Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas. This incredible ship has an onboard tattoo parlor for guests who want to get inked while sailing around the Caribbean islands.

The parlor offers tattoos of all sizes and styles, from small and simple designs to elaborate works of art. The process is safe and hygienic, with the artists following all necessary health regulations.

Carnival Cruise Lines also offers onboard tattoos for their guests. Guests can choose from a variety of designs, including traditional symbols as well as custom artwork.

The parlor is run by professional artists who are skilled in creating beautiful works of art on skin. They also use safe and sterile equipment for every procedure.

Other cruise lines such as Norwegian Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, and Princess Cruises have also started offering tattoos onboard their ships. These parlors are run by experienced artists who can create beautiful pieces whether you want something simple or something more intricate. All procedures follow strict health regulations to ensure safety for all guests onboard the ship.

Matador Original Series

Virgin voyages is giving away a free cruise if you get a tattoo this weekend.

P eople get tattoos for all kinds of reasons. Self-expression. Honoring a loved one. Showing the world your steadfast devotion to Tweety Bird. Or, as of 2020, because you’re on a cruise ship and there’s nothing better to do.

Virgin Voyages — Sir Richard Branson’s foray into the cruising industry primed to set sail in 2020 — announced this week that it’s introducing the first-ever tattoo parlor at sea aboard the forthcoming Scarlet Lady , cleverly called Squid Ink. So when an Instagram selfie just isn’t quite enough to tell the world you were on a Virgin cruise, now every time you look at your ribcage, you can remember those seven magical days you spent floating around Nassau .

The tattoo shop is partnering with renowned tattoo artist Lou Rubino, Jr. of World Famous Tattoo Ink and Freshly Inked Magazine . He’ll be personally selecting the steady hands tasked with permanently marking your skin on a listing cruise ship and already has Spike TV’s Ink Masters’ Sarah Miller, surrealist specialist Arlo DiCristina, and illustrative specialist Jime Litwalk committed to guest stints in 2020. In addition to the special guests, two full-time staff artists will be onboard at all times.

“World Famous… has been working with sailors, pirates, and rock stars for over 50 years,” Rubino said via a press release, though he did not expand on where, exactly, he found said pirates. We’ll assume he did a lot of work for Bobby Bonilla in the ‘90s. “Partnering with Virgin Voyages gives us the unique opportunity to bring color to places people never thought possible.”

So if you ever doubted someone’s ability to put a tattoo on the top of your scalp, apparently Scarlet Lady ’s artists will prove otherwise.

Additionally, if a week in the Caribbean led you to think a tongue piercing was a good idea, World Famous Tattoo Ink has you covered. It’ll also offer body piercing and permanent makeup treatment, giving Scarlet Lady the cruise industry’s largest selection of souvenirs that keep on giving.

While you’re welcome to get your seven-day-cruise girlfriend’s face tattooed on your back, the ship will also have special commemorative tattoos available only onboard the ship. In case you feel like advertising for Virgin Voyages for the rest of your life.

To celebrate the announcement, Soho Ink at 285 Lafayette Street in New York City will be giving away free nautical micro-tattoos to the first 100 people who ask for one. Post a pic of your new ink on Instagram, and you’ll be entered into a drawing to win a free voyage aboard Scarlet Lady , where you can complement your free tattoo with one on your other butt cheek.

If you can’t make it to Soho Ink, you can also register to win a free voyage (and a free micro-tattoo while onboard) at www.virginvoyages.com .

Virgin Voyages Shopping on Scarlet Lady: What stores are onboard?

Some people love going on cruises because of the shopping, and fear not, we are here to tell you all the shopping options available on Virgin Voyages, more specifically, the Scarlet Lady.

Virgin is not like other cruise lines that offer daily deals for shopping, with different  departments going on sale. Instead, the price you see is what you get all the time on the cruise.

If you find an item you like, then go get it. If it’s sold out a few days later, the item may not get replenished until after your cruise.

This is a part of our Virgin Voyages post series.

Unlike some of the bigger cruise lines where the shops are multiple floors on the ship, there’s only one designated area on the Scarlet Lady called the High Street.

Patterned after high street shops in the UK, the stores are designed to face the corridor, so you can browse easily. There are only a few actual shops, which we discuss below.

Display from Virgin Voyages Shop

The first and only tattoo parlor onboard a cruise ship is located here. Apparently, the concept is so popular that you have to reserve in advance in order to get a tattoo onboard.

Prices differ depending if you want a customized tattoo or if you select a premade pattern. You can book a reservation through the app but there is a non-refundable deposit of $150. Now, we have never had tattoos before but isn’t $150 for a tattoo pretty expensive?

If you need to get dolled up for Scarlet Night or have an occasion to celebrate onboard, the ship has its own salon called the Dry Dock and is located on the high street area (deck 6). You can get your hair done, or get them to do your makeup.

Have a nail emergency? The Tune Up available for any manicure/pedicure needs. There’s even a barbershop onboard for the men called Stubble and Groom.

The space for these salons are tiny, with only 5 spots or less for the salon, so it does get busy for a few hours before Scarlet Night. You can also make reservations on the app if you need to get a spot in.

Forgot your makeup on land and need replacements to use onboard? Fear not, there is a MAC Cosmetics shop onboard. The prices are comparable to land prices, but they don’t carry the land exclusives.

If you are a fan of paint pots, the shop does not carry them either! So much for saving a few dollars on taxes by picking one up from the ship!

The shop does makeovers upon request and seminars throughout the sailing, but space is limited so show up early. These spots are standing room only.

The Spirits for sale at Virgin Voyages

What cruise ship is there without an alcohol shop onboard? My husband and I checked it out and they have a limited selection of alcohol and spirits, but the prices are $5 cheaper than land prices.

They also carry British brands that you may not often get in specialty shops like Total Wine. Perfect for those who want to bring home some unique spirits for their home bars.

Various Branded Items

There’s a jewelry store, high end bags, cosmetics, shoes, and clothing available throughout a few different shop fronts and they cater to different types of goods.

Prices are high since these are luxury goods, and sizes and design selections are not readily available. I think that overall, the prices are cheaper than on land since you save on taxes, but not sure if the ship carries the latest fashions/collection if that is your sort of thing.

We skipped browsing these stores since we do not really like branded items. We do try to live frugally as part of our pursuit for financial independence.

Virgin Voyages Brand Store on the Scarlet Lady

Virgin Voyages Brand Store

The most popular store on the ship is the Virgin Voyages brand store. Here, you can get a lot of branded Virgin Voyages items. This shop has the perfect souvenir that you can take home from your cruise.

Our personal favorites are the rubber ships of Scarlet Lady ($12 each and comes in gray and in red), the Octopus notebook ($12) and a Scarlet Lady coaster ($6).

You can get t-shirts, bags, and other branded merchandise from this store. What other store would you want? True enough, there’s always more people in this store compared to the others. The prices are not so bad, and it is a good way to remember your trip.

Forgot your sunscreen? Toothpaste? Deodorant? The Essentials have it all. Of course the prices are more expensive than what you would get from land but in a pinch, this store comes in handy.

There was someone on our ship whose airline lost his bag and he needed to get a whole load of items from the store. He did manage to get the basic necessities, although not as many selections as on land. You can opt to get stuff from CVS, Walgreens, and even grocery stores on land. There’s a Whole Foods within a 10 minute car ride from the ship docks that you can Uber to if you still have time.

There is a very small selection of books available at the Essentials so try to bring your own reading material when you go on the ship. This shop is also the place to get the Never Sleep Alone companion book. Watch the show! Read more about the entertainment options on Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady.

Then again, would you even need physical books if you have free WiFi on the ship?

Not sure what the name of the store is, but it specializes in higher end items like toys, clothing, accessories, and shoes.

The store hours vary and the stuffed toy prices (if you’re a collector, like I am) are a bit steep – at around $20 per item for a tiny toy! You can also get Alex and Ani jewelry from the store, and a few higher end purses, clothing, and shoes.

This ship is along the corridor on Deck 7 on the way to the Dock House so you won’t miss it! Still a good place to browse, I would say.

We thought that the record store would hold a big variety of items but nah. There’s only a small rock section, very little pop, and less than 30 titles onboard. You can listen to some of the records while onboard.

The hours vary but if there’s a DJ playing, chances are, the store is open. Located in Deck 7, near the Roundabout area of the ship. This is one of the first stores you will see when you embark on the ship for the first time from Miami.

There is a special edition vinyl which is only available on the Scarlet Lady. The vinyl itself is red, compared to black on most vinyls, and costs $70! Forgot which band and album it’s about but I found it really expensive!

Virgin Voyages Shopping on Scarlet Lady

Are you going to shop in any of the Scarlet Lady/Virgin Voyages stores?

You can use your bracelet to pay for anything onboard and if you have Sailor Loot, these items will automatically be deducted from your balance. No need to worry about paying per individual transaction, everything will be listed on your final bill before you disembark.

I just realized we didn’t take many photos of the shops while we were onboard since we didn’t spend too much time in them. Oh well, will take more photos and update the post the next time we go onboard in Dec 2022.

Hopefully this post helped you plan which stores you will hit when you get onboard. Which one is your favorite store so far?

Not sure if they have an online store but so far we only saw those items available while on the ship, and once its gone during your cruise, they won’t be able to replenish.

I’m enjoying these articles, thank you! $150 is really cheap for a tattoo, and what they aren’t public about is that Squid Ink is in partnership with high end shops and tattoo artists that would charge wayyyy more in NYC or London.

Thanks for your comment! I thought $150 was expensive for a tattoo lol! Maybe that’s for the minimum. I could ask for quotes when I go back on my cruise in September.

I’m wondering if it’s at all possible to buy the sex Pistols red vinyl album that is being sold in your shop ?

I am fully aware that it ‘s $70 but I guess seeing as you are only selling it on your ship, i may as well ask.

Hope to hear from you soon, Tim.

Hiya, We don’t have a shop and I’m not sure where else Virgin sells the exclusive red vinyl album aside from onboard the ship. We are going back to sail in a week and the next one in Dec 2022 so can keep a look out if it’s still available!

Cruising in 2023 but couldn’t snag a suite. Can you buy the rock star robes on board?

You can ask your room attendant if they allow you to buy those. When the octopus rubber ducky were only available to the rock star suites, I asked our room attendant if he can secure it for us even though we were not staying at a suite. He just charged our room the amount of the duck.

Can I Get A Tattoo Or Piercing On A Cruise Ship?

Table of Contents

Have you ever wondered if you could get a tattoo or piercing while on a cruise ship? Well, the answer is yes! Many cruise lines now offer onboard tattoo and piercing services, allowing you to add a unique and lasting souvenir to your vacation experience. Whether you’re looking to get a small tattoo or a bold piercing, cruise ships provide a convenient and safe way for you to express yourself while at sea.

Onboard tattoo and piercing services have become increasingly popular on cruise ships, offering a wide range of designs and styles to choose from. Whether you want a small symbol to commemorate your trip or a larger piece of art, professional tattoo artists are available to bring your vision to life. Piercing enthusiasts can also rejoice, as many ships offer various piercing options, from ear and nose piercings to more daring body piercings.

If you’re concerned about the safety and professionalism of onboard tattoo and piercing services, fear not. Cruise ship operators take great care in ensuring that all tattoo and piercing facilities meet strict health and safety standards. All equipment used is thoroughly sterilized, and tattoo artists and piercers are trained professionals who adhere to strict hygiene practices. So, you can rest assured that you’re in good hands when getting inked or pierced on a cruise ship.

In conclusion, if you’ve ever considered getting a tattoo or piercing, why not do it while on a cruise? With onboard tattoo and piercing services available, you can add a unique and memorable experience to your vacation. From choosing a design to enjoying the process, cruise ships provide a safe and convenient way for you to express yourself and make your trip even more special. So go ahead, embrace your inner artist, and make your vacation truly unforgettable.

Restrictions on Tattoos and Piercings

If you’re considering getting a tattoo or piercing while on a cruise ship, it’s important to be aware of any restrictions that may apply. While some cruise lines do allow tattoos and piercings onboard, others have specific policies in place regarding body modifications.

Most cruise lines prohibit any visible tattoos or piercings that could be offensive or inappropriate. This means that tattoos or piercings in certain areas, such as the face, neck, or hands, may be prohibited. Additionally, some cruise lines may require you to cover up or remove any visible body modifications while in public areas of the ship.

It’s also worth mentioning that age restrictions may apply when it comes to getting a tattoo or piercing on a cruise ship. In most cases, you must be at least 18 years old to get a tattoo without parental consent. Piercings, on the other hand, may have different age requirements depending on the location and type of piercing.

Availability of Tattoo and Piercing Services on Cruise Ships

While not all cruise lines offer tattoo and piercing services onboard, some do have dedicated facilities or partnerships with professional tattoo artists and piercers. These facilities are typically equipped with sterile equipment and adhere to strict health and safety guidelines.

If your chosen cruise line does offer these services, it’s important to research and understand their specific policies and procedures. Some cruise lines may require you to book an appointment in advance, while others may offer walk-in services. It’s always a good idea to check with the cruise line before your trip to ensure availability and make necessary arrangements.

Booking an Appointment

If you’re interested in getting a tattoo or piercing on a cruise ship, it’s recommended to book an appointment in advance. This will help ensure that you secure a time slot that works best for you and allows the artists to adequately prepare for your session.

Booking an appointment is typically done through the cruise line’s website or by contacting their customer service directly. Be prepared to provide details such as the type of tattoo or piercing you’re interested in, any design preferences, and any questions or concerns you may have.

Choosing a Design

When it comes to getting a tattoo or piercing on a cruise ship, it’s important to think carefully about the design you want. Remember, this is a permanent modification to your body, so it’s essential to choose something that you’ll be happy with for years to come.

Many cruise ship tattoo artists have portfolios or online galleries of their previous work, which can give you an idea of their artistic style and capabilities. Take the time to browse through these examples and discuss your ideas with the artist beforehand. They can offer valuable insights and recommendations based on their experience.

Preparing for the Procedure

Before getting a tattoo or piercing on a cruise ship, it’s crucial to prepare yourself physically and mentally. Ensure that you’re well-rested, well-hydrated, and have eaten a balanced meal before your appointment. This will help minimize any discomfort and make the process more pleasant.

It’s also recommended to avoid consuming alcohol or blood-thinning medications before your procedure. These substances can increase bleeding and interfere with the healing process. If you have any underlying medical conditions, it’s important to disclose them to the artist or piercer beforehand.

Sterilization and Safety Measures

When it comes to getting a tattoo or piercing, safety should always be a top priority. Reputable cruise ship tattoo and piercing facilities follow strict sterilization protocols to prevent infections and ensure the safety of their clients.

Before your procedure, the artist or piercer should open a new, sterile needle and use sterilized equipment and jewelry. They should also wear disposable gloves at all times and maintain a clean and hygienic working environment. If you have any concerns about the sterilization practices of the facility, do not hesitate to ask for clarification or seek an alternative option.

Piercing Aftercare

After getting a piercing on a cruise ship, it’s essential to follow the aftercare instructions provided by the piercer. This typically involves cleaning the piercing with a saline solution or mild soap, avoiding touching or twisting the jewelry, and avoiding submerging the piercing in pools, hot tubs, or other bodies of water.

It’s normal for piercings to experience some swelling, redness, and discharge in the first few weeks. However, if you notice severe pain, excessive bleeding, or signs of infection, such as pus or a foul odor, it’s important to seek medical attention immediately.

Tattoo Aftercare

Proper aftercare is crucial for the healing and longevity of your tattoo. After getting a tattoo on a cruise ship, the artist will provide you with specific instructions to follow. This may involve keeping the tattoo clean, applying a thin layer of ointment or moisturizer, and avoiding direct sunlight, swimming, or excessive sweating for a certain period of time.

It’s important to avoid picking at or scratching the tattoo, as this can lead to scarring and color loss. Be sure to wear loose clothing that won’t rub against the tattoo and refrain from submerging it in water until it has fully healed. If you notice any signs of infection, such as increased pain, swelling, or discharge, seek medical attention promptly.

Alternative Options for Tattoo and Piercing

If getting a tattoo or piercing on a cruise ship is not feasible or does not align with your preferences, there are alternative options available. Many popular cruise destinations have tattoo and piercing studios onshore that cater to tourists. These studios may offer a wider range of designs and styles compared to what may be available onboard.

Before deciding to visit an onshore studio, it’s important to research their reputation and adherence to safety standards. Read reviews, ask for recommendations from fellow travelers or locals, and ensure that the studio follows proper sterilization protocols.

In conclusion, getting a tattoo or piercing on a cruise ship is possible, but it’s essential to be aware of any restrictions and research the cruise line’s policies beforehand. If available, consider booking an appointment in advance and discuss your design ideas with the artist or piercer. Remember to follow proper aftercare instructions to ensure optimal healing and enjoyment of your new body modification. If onboard options are limited or not suitable, explore alternative options at tattoo and piercing studios onshore. Ultimately, the decision to get a tattoo or piercing on a cruise ship is a personal one that should be made with careful consideration and respect for your own preferences and safety.
