Port Canaveral Port Overview (Parking, Terminals, and Maps)

If you’re heading out to Port Canaveral, there’s some great news. Despite being one of the busiest cruise ports in the world — serving roughly 4 million passengers each year — the port is a breeze to navigate.

Still, if you’re unfamiliar with the area getting to your ship can be a little confusing. That’s why we’ve put together this guide to help get you where you’re going.

Getting Acquainted with the Cruise Port

Starting out, it helps to have an overview of the port before you get there. The port is located about 45 minutes due east of Orlando, on Cape Canaveral. Don’t worry about not being able to find it. There is only one road from Orlando to Cape Canaveral — Florida 528 (a toll road also know as the “Beachline”).

The Beachline take you directly to Port Canaveral. We’ve highlighted it below:

Assuming you are coming from Orlando, once you reach Cape Canaveral (after going over two causeways), you will see a roadsign giving you two options. You can either stay on the Beachline to head toward the “B” cruise terminals or you can exit to your right to go to the “A” cruise terminals.

The “A” terminal is where the large cruise ships — Disney, Royal Caribbean, and Carnival — make their home. You will take this exit to your right and make a large loop around. Once you make the loop, you will see the cruise ships almost directly ahead of you.

Continue down this road and you will head straight until you are almost past all the cruise terminals. Eventually you will see a large blue sign listing all the cruise lines with an arrow that tells you to veer to the right. Just past that, you will see a single lane exiting to the right. This exit will lead you to the cruise terminals.

To know where to go next, you need an overview of the cruise terminals at Port Canaveral. While the port is large, each of the major cruise line has its own dedicated terminals.

Carnival uses terminals 5&6. Disney uses terminal 8. Royal Caribbean uses terminal 10.

We’ve mapped out the location of the terminals below:

Carnival Cruise Terminals (#5 & #6)

Once you exit, you will continue straight (there will be signs directing you) to head to the Carnival cruise terminals. As you continue straight, you will pass directly in front of the terminals, giving you a chance to drop off passengers or luggage.

On your left you will see the parking garage and parking lots. Things can get a little confusing, so we’ve included the map below to who you the path you can take to pass in front of the two terminals and then continue on to the parking lot.

Disney Cruise Terminal (#8)

To get to Disney’s port (Terminal #8), you will take a right after exiting from the main road into the port. Once you exit, you will loop around to your right, before heading back south — the direction from which you originally came into the port.

As you head south, you will want to look for the left lane, which will be marked on the asphalt with a large arrow that says “Disney” underneath. Eventually this lane will turn to the left, and head to the terminal.

Once you turn, we suggest staying in the left two lanes. This will take you through a point where you can drop off passengers or luggage. From there, you will see the parking area on your left. The entrance is on the left, just past the parking garage.

Royal Caribbean Cruise Terminal (#10)

If you are sailing Royal Caribbean, you will take a right after exiting from the main road into the port. Once you exit, you will loop around to your right, before heading back south — the direction from which you originally came into the port.

From here you will pass the Disney terminal on your left. Keep going. Eventually the road loops around toward the ship and the Royal Caribbean terminal.

Parking is on your right so you will want to be in the rightmost lane, exiting just before you reach the parking garage and surface lot.

One thing to keep in mind no matter where you cruise from — help is just a question away. Cruise days are busy, and the port understands that many people aren’t sure exactly where they should go. Don’t hesitate to ask.

Did you know?

Port Canaveral is situated in Cape Canaveral, Florida, serving as Disney's home port. It stands as one of the largest cruise terminals in the US and ranks as the third busiest cruise port globally. During the first half of 2024, the Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal will host two Disney Cruise Ships: the Disney Fantasy and the newly unveiled Disney Wish. Look for your Disney ship at Terminal Building 8.

Approximate driving times (without traffic and with tolls) to Port Canaveral:

- 45 minutes from orlando international airport,    - 50 minutes from melbourne international airport,    - 60 minutes from walt disney world resort, parking operated by the port canaveral port authority is available adjacent to the cruise terminal. all parking facilities are convenient, secure, and patrolled 24 hours a day. the parking garage opens at 10:15 am., parking is $17.00 per day plus tax for vehicles & rvs, including day of arrival and day of departure. for instance, if you have a 3-night sailing, you will be charged $68 (17 *4) plus tax for parking. rates are subject to change without notice. no cash is accepted - you pay using a major credit card company (i.e., american express, visa, mastercard, and discover)..

When you park, the two most convenient floors are level 1, as this is the ground level, and level 3, which is connected to the covered walkway for the terminal. Level 3 is a great place to park as you do not have to worry about the cars driving up to drop off their luggage and can get a great picture of you and your Disney cruise ship in the background along the covered walkway.

There are other parking options around port canaveral, but they are not tied to the port canaveral port authority and typically require you to take a shuttle to reach the cruise terminal. as such, for easy access to the disney cruise line terminal, parking at the nearby garage is your best bet .

Passenger / Luggage Drop-Off & Pick-Up

Upon arrival, before you park your vehicle in the terminal parking garage, you will proceed directly to the Cruise Terminal to drop off passengers and luggage. Porters will assist you with your luggage, and parking personnel will direct drivers to the appropriate parking facility. Tipping porters $1 - $2 per bag is customary.

Upon departure, passengers can retrieve their vehicles and pick up their companions and luggage in front of the terminal entrance, or they can walk with their luggage to their vehicle and depart when ready..

What is a Port Arrival Time? 

When completing your online check-in process, you will select your Port Arrival Time (PAT). Your PAT is when you can enter the Disney Cruise Line terminal for your physical check-in. For example, if your PAT is from 12:45 pm to 1:00 pm, you can enter the terminal at that specified time. If you arrive earlier than your PAT, you will wait until your time comes. If you arrive after your PAT, you will board with the current group. However, you can park in the garage and drop off your luggage before your PAT to be prepared and among the first in line for your boarding group.

Where to stay before or after your cruise?

If you need to stay at a hotel before or after your cruise, there are plenty of options around Port Canaveral and the Orlando area! One of the closest options to Port Canaveral is the beautiful Hilton Cocoa Beach Oceanfront at 5.5 miles away. This hotel is a great option if you want to begin your vacation early or extend it some after the cruise - you will be right on the beach allowing you to relax and lounge by the pool or by the ocean! You can also enjoy the pier, restaurants, and shops nearby in the surfing capital of the state. 

Another great hotel option is the hyatt regency orlando international airport, located right inside the orlando airport, offering you the convenience of strolling out of your plane into your hotel room with just a few steps this hotel also offers award-winning dining, personalized service, and an outdoor pool with planes soaring overhead., there are various other hotel options in and around port canaveral and orlando airport. however, my favorite hotel stay for a disney cruise out of port canaveral is at a disney hotel while staying at a disney resort means you will be a bit farther from port canaveral, the magic will begin sooner and/or end later if you stay before and/or after your cruise. disney offers various hotel types, from value and moderate to deluxe and deluxe villas, allowing you to choose the best option for your budget.

Does Disney offer transportation from the Disney Resorts to the DCL Terminal in Port Canaveral? 

Yes, if you decide to stay at a Disney resort before and/or after your cruise, not only will the magic start sooner and/or end later for you. But you also have the opportunity to purchase tickets for DCL transportation to and from the terminal.

Does Disney offer transportation from the Orlando International Airport to the DCL Terminal in Port Canaveral? 

Once again, yes! You can purchase tickets for the DCL transportation service to and from the cruise terminal when arriving at the Orlando International Airport (MCO) and/or staying at the Hyatt Regency Orlando Airport. 

How do I book the DCL Ground Transportation? 

Once you have booked your cruise, navigate to Already Booked > Ground Transportation on the Disney Cruise Line website or add Transportation after logging into your reservation on the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App. You can also call (800) 951-3532 to add ground transfers in advance, as only a limited number may be available for purchase upon arrival. If you require a one-way DCL transfer, call the number above to get that purchased. Moreover, for 2024, the average per way per person is $45 to use Disney Cruise Line's Ground Transportation. However, the final number will be provided online, through the app, or by phone, and prices are subject to change without notice.

What is there to do in Port Canaveral? 

Port Canaveral is not only a gateway to magical Disney Cruise Line adventures but also a destination filled with exciting attractions. If you are a water enthusiast, look no further than Cocoa Beach, known as the surfing capital of Florida. Whether you are a seasoned surfer or a newbie, the waves beckon for a thrilling experience. Port Canaveral is a bustling hub for cruise departures to the Eastern and Western Caribbean and Bahamas. Among the cruise lines that operate out of this port is Disney Cruise Line , which offers a range of exciting itineraries departing from Cruise Terminal #8 or #10 in Port Canaveral during 2024 and 2025.

It’s worth noting that Disney’s shorter 3- or 4-night cruises from Port Canaveral typically visit Castaway Cay or Lookout Cay — and possibly Nassau. These itineraries are perfect for a quick getaway with plenty to do onboard and ashore.

On the other hand, most of Disney’s longer cruises departing from Port Canaveral are multi-port itineraries. For instance, the Western Caribbean itinerary usually includes stops in places such as Cozumel, Mexico, George Town, Grand Cayman, and Falmouth, Jamaica. Official Disney Shuttles

Disney Cruise Line offers guests a convenient mode of transportation from Orlando International Airport to Port Canaveral through their ground transfer services. These transfers can be easily purchased when booking the cruise and provide a stress-free journey once you arrive at the airport.

The shuttle transfers are priced at $39 per guest for a one-way trip (or $78 roundtrip) , which includes door-to-door service and luggage assistance.

It is essential to keep in mind that these transfers are only available on the day of embarkation and debarkation.

To secure ground transfers in advance, guests can call (800) 951-3532, as a limited number of transfers may be available for purchase upon arrival.

In addition to transfers between the port and the airport, Disney’s Port Canaveral shuttles also provide transportation between the port and Walt Disney World Resort hotels.

• Go Port Canaveral ’s shuttle bus costs $29.99 per person ($59.98 roundtrip) for transport between the airport and the port.
• Mears Transportation offers chauffeured vehicle service through Mears Global Chauffeured Car Service. Pricing is available upon request.
• Space Port Transport offers one-way transport for up to four people at $98 and $10 per additional person.
• Star Trans-VIP provides a wide range of luxurious and corporate transportation options, including sedans, vans, and motorcoaches. Contact them for pricing.
• Tropicana Transport offers shuttle van transport for $20 to $27.50 per person, depending on the number of people in the van.

Ultimate Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal Tips

A cruise can be such a relaxing vacation. You won’t have to worry about what to eat, and won’t have to drive and worry about directions and parking. Once you are onboard and the ship sets sail, you’ll be able to relax and enjoy your vacation. But, you’ve first got to board your ship, which can sometimes be a little stressful.

Sailing on a cruise from the Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal (where you’ll find the Disney cruise terminal)? Port Canaveral is a large terminal, so here are some tips and information for cruisers that can help you on your trip.

Disney Cruise Line Terminal: Port Canaveral Tips and Information for Cruisers

Port canaveral location.

Port Canaveral FL is located about 45 miles east of Orlando. It’s fairly easy to fly into the Orlando International Airport, Sanford International Airport, or Melbourne International Airport, and travel to the cruise port. We always fly into Orlando International Airport , due to the number of available flights from Boston.

However, some families choose to do other things as well. You can plan a Disney land and sea vacation , and spend some time at Walt Disney World before or after your cruise. That works especially well with the three or four-day Disney Wish itinerary.

Families may also consider spending time near Port Canaveral before or after their cruise. Activities in the area include the Kennedy Space Center and the Space Coast beaches (including Cocoa Beach and Melbourne Beach).

Getting to and from Port Canaveral

If you are traveling on the Disney Cruise Line, you’ll have some specific transportation options offered to you. These are available at an additional fee, but I find them to be so convenient. We always take the shuttle because it will get you there on time and will drop you off in the exact location you need to be in.

There are two options – one leaving Orlando International Airport, and one leaving from the Walt Disney World resort hotels. You’ll want to add these to your trip itinerary when you book, or later through DCL or the travel agent you booked with.

There are other options as well, including shuttles, private cars, Uber/Lyft, and cabs. Port Canaveral parking is also available. It’s currently $17 per day, and you’ll park near your specific cruise terminal.

If you are hoping to get a rental car so you can continue to explore the area after your cruise, there are several options available. As always, I recommend booking in advance to make sure there is a car available when you need it.

Port Canaveral Cruises

I’ve specifically mentioned Disney Cruise Lines here because that’s who I typically cruise with. But Port Canaveral hosts other cruise lines as well. These include:

• Royal Caribbean
• Carnival Cruise Line
• Norwegian Cruise Line

Cruise lines and ships are always subject to change. Cruise itineraries and locations can vary by season and by year.

Sailing out of the Port Canaveral on Disney Cruise Line

Admittedly, I’ve only sailed Disney Cruise Line from Port Canaveral, and I’ve always found the process to be easy and straightforward. If you are taking Disney transportation from the airport, you’ll leave your luggage before boarding the motorcoach at the airport.

The cruise porters aren’t employed by the cruise line and do accept tips. Make sure you bring along some cash for tips.

Once you arrive at the port, you’ll be directed through security, then go through the check-in area. In the past, cruisers were sent upstairs to check-in. Now, you’ll be able to check in downstairs and the upstairs area is specifically where you’ll go if there are any issues with your check-in.

The Disney terminal is so well-appointed, and it really gets you in the spirit of traveling with Disney. There are separate check-in areas available. If you are a Castaway Club Platinum member (and soon-to-be Pearl) or a concierge stateroom guest, you’ll have a separate area to check-in.

When you check-in, you’ll make sure you have a credit card on file, sign any relevant paperwork, and have your passport/ID checked. While in the past guests were handed lanyards (for Castaway Club members) and Key to the World cards, these will now be on your stateroom door/in your stateroom.

A boarding number will be given to you at that time. You can sit in the waiting area and wait for the number to be called. While you wait, you can walk outside to get a great photo of the ship, and can even wait in line to take a photo with Minnie or Mickey.

When you originally check in to your cruise online, you’ll want to choose your port arrival time (PAT). If you are flexible for the day, an early time will give you more time on the ship. However, a later time may make for a more relaxing check-in, with fewer people in line.

Customs at Port Canaveral

Once you exit the ship, you’ll head downstairs toward customs. If you’ve tagged your bags to be picked up outside your room and delivered to your room, you’ll need to find them before going through customs.

There are lots of bags, but the sections are well-labeled so they are easy to find. I usually check bags for longer cruises and carry my own for shorter ones.

After you see the customs officials, you’ll walk out of the terminal to find the various transportation options. If you are taking Disney transportation to the airport or the theme parks, they are very easy to find and run continuously.

Port Canaveral Hotels

I always recommend that cruise passengers arrive at least a day in advance. The risk of flight delays is always a risk, and arriving early can definitely help mitigate that risk. On our last sailing, our luggage was delayed, so it was nice to have some extra time before we had to board the ship.

You’ll have lots of options when choosing where to stay that night. Some guests choose to go to Walt Disney World first, while others prefer to stay near the Orlando International Airport (where they can get transportation to the port in the morning). You may also consider staying near the port. Here are some options:

Orlando International Airport

Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport

I absolutely love staying at the Hyatt right at the airport. It’s so convenient, and they even handle your bags for you and take them right from your room to the cruise port. This hotel also offers day stay rooms , if you find yourself in need of a place to hang out before a later flight after your cruise.

DoubleTree Orlando Airport

We’ve stayed here a few times and enjoyed our stay. There’s a complimentary shuttle to and from the airport, and you can enjoy the signature DoubleTree service.

Near Port Canaveral

I haven’t personally stayed near the Port Canaveral cruise terminal, but these hotel have great reviews.

• Homewood Suites by Hilton Cape Canaveral
• Radisson Resort at the Port
• Residence Inn Cape Canaveral Cocoa Beach

You can also find some additional hotels and other places to stay on this map (affiliate links).

It’s about a 50-minute ride, although there can sometimes be traffic to make the ride longer.

Both airports – MCO and Sanford Airport, are both somewhat nearby. It’s usually easier to get transportation from MCO, however.

I prefer to stay at the Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport. It’s so convenient, and it’s a really nice hotel where you can get some great sleep before your cruise.

The Orlando International Airport is located approximately 45 miles to the west of the port and is serviced by most domestic and many international airlines. Port Canaveral is located near the center of the east coast of Florida. With seven cruise terminals, it is well equipped to handle the millions of passengers that pass through its gates every year. Each terminal has it’s own parking lot for easy access to the ship and signs will direct which ships are docked at which terminal.

Port Canaveral – Cruise Terminal Locations 

The following terminals are on the A side – North Side of the port.  When coming in A1A from Orlando, take exit 54A:

Terminal 8 is Disney Cruises Terminal in Port Canaveral. During the cruise hiatus in 2020, some updates were made to the terminal to enhance customer convenience.

In Florida, summer typically begins in early May and lasts until September. During these months, temperatures can reach as high as 32°C (90°F), and there is a good chance of thunderstorms occurring. When I was preparing for our first Disney Cruise I was most nervous about the Disney Cruise embarkation and disembarkation procedures. I had never done a cruise before, and the information I found was extremely confusing. Now I realize that the Disney Cruise embarkation and disembarkation procedures are overall very easy, but minor mistakes can turn into big problems. Find out what the Disney Cruise embarkation and disembarkation process is like at Port Canaveral and our tips for making your Disney Cruise embarkation and disembarkation days easy.

Disney Cruise Embarkation Day

The day has finally come for you to set sail on your Disney cruise. Before walking onto your Disney Cruise Line ship at Port Canaveral you must complete several steps.

Check Your Luggage

You cannot carry all of your luggage on board with you on embarkation day. Staterooms, which are your home for the duration of the cruise, are not usually ready until late in the afternoon. If you used Disney Cruise Line transportation, and left your bags properly tagged outside of your Disney World resort room, these bags will magically show up outside your stateroom door.

If you have driven yourself, or taken a car service like Tiffany Towncar, you will need to check your properly tagged luggage. A porter at the port will collect your luggage before you head to the security line.

Please note the porters do not work for Disney Cruise Line, and tipping is customary when you hand off your bags.

Pro tip: Check pricing for private car service to Port Canaveral. Many times using a company like Tiffany Towncar will cost the same as using Disney Cruise Line transportation, but the Tiffany Towncar service is more convenient and pleasant than taking the coach buses. 

Regardless of how you get to the port it is very important that you have all essential items for the day with you. All checked luggage is inaccessible for several hours.

Passports, driver’s licenses, birth certificates, medications, valuables, and other essential items should be packed in your embarkation day bag.

Get Pre-Boarding COVID Test

Starting in June 2022 Disney Cruise Line updated their pre-cruise COVID testing requirements . In the US and Canada, vaccinated guests must still take a pre-cruise COVID test, but the specific rules have changed.

Instead of mandating testing be done immediately prior to boarding, Disney now accepts negative results of certain tests taken no more than 2 days before embarkation. These negative results must be uploaded to Safe Passage before midnight the day before embarkation.

All testing for vaccinated guests is now at the guest’s expense. For kids under 5 years old they must still pretest 3 days before the cruise at your expense and once again at the port at no charge.

Port test results can take up to 60 minutes. Plan ahead and make sure to pack snacks, drinks, and entertainment to help pass the time while waiting. For the most up to date information consult the Disney Cruise Line website .

Go Through Security Screening

At Port Canaveral there is U.S. airport style screening to enter the port. All bags go through a screening machine. Every person entering the port also passes through a metal detector. This process generally moves quickly with our usual wait time under 15 minutes.

Check-in For Your Cruise

After security it is time to get in line for Disney Cruise Line check-in. Most of your check-in process is completed online in advance of your trip. Having most forms completed online makes the embarkation day process move quickly.

While you wait, staff will provide you a health questionnaire. Complete this questionnaire prior to reaching the check-in desk. Sometimes pens are scarce so it is helpful to have your own.

Once you reach the check-in desk a cast member will pull up your reservation information. They will then ask to see your driver’s license, passport or other items that can be used in lieu of a passport. Find out more about documentation requirements for Disney Cruise Line here .

The cast member will review your travel health questionnaire and then take a photo of each member of the group to associate with your on-board account. After this check-in is complete, the cast member will give you a Key To The World Card and boarding group number.

It is very important to keep track of your Key To The World card. Your Key To The World Card is needed for almost everything on your Disney Cruise Line vacation.

Wait For Your Boarding Group

The boarding process is more streamlined now with guests arriving at pre-selected arrival times. This means you should be able to board the ship quickly after screening unlike before when you may have a long wait in the terminal before boarding.

Once your boarding group number is called you enter the gangway to board the Disney Cruise Line ship. Photographers with a background screen of a Disney Cruise ship will take your photo on the way through the gangway.

Board Your Disney Cruise Ship

As you approach the doors of the Disney Cruise Line ship a cast member will ask your family name. When it is your turn to enter the ship a cast member introduces you and the staff applaud as you finally enter the cruise ship.

You have now completed your Disney Cruise embarkation, but there is more to do on this first day. Grab something to eat, explore the ship, or go for a swim while you wait for your room to be ready. 

Before leaving dock there is a mandatory safety drill everyone must attend. After that it is time for the Sail Away Party and for your vacation fun to begin.

Disney Cruise Disembarkation Day

The process for Disney Cruise disembarkation begins the night before you depart and continues into the morning of disembarkation.

Place Luggage Outside Your Stateroom The Night Before

On the evening of your last night on a Disney Cruise your stateroom attendant will place luggage tags and a special paper detailing the Disney Cruise disembarkation process on your bed.

Disney Cruise disembarkation day can be very chaotic. Embarkation is scattered over a longer time whereas disembarking happens around the same time for everyone. Elevators are crowded, and it can be difficult to carry heavy luggage down many flights of steps.

To avoid the challenge of lugging large suitcases on your Disney Cruise disembarkation day you can choose to use special tags and place bags outside of your stateroom the night before disembarking. Your stateroom attendant will load the luggage, and porters will have it ready to pick up outside the ship.

It is important that you keep everything you need for your last night and the next morning with you. The luggage you leave outside the stateroom will be unavailable until after you disembark the Disney cruise ship.

We usually pack everything except pajamas, clothes and shoes for the next day, medications, toiletries, jewelry, passports or other important documents. Then on Disney Cruise disembarkation day we pack all of our remaining items in a carry-on suitcase and our personal items like a backpack or purse.

Disembarkation Day Breakfast

The Disney Cruise Line disembarkation day starts early. If you had first seating for dinner your scheduled breakfast time is 6:45 am. If you are the second dinner seating then breakfast is usually at 8:00 am.

Both of these times can be rather early. This is especially true when you consider everyone needs to be up, dressed, and fully packed prior to going to breakfast. We have done a sit-down disembarkation day breakfast and also done continental style breakfast in our room for disembarkation day.

Eating something quick in the room and then disembarking the ship while others are at breakfast is much easier. Room service is not available on Disney cruise disembarkation day, so plan ahead. Order complimentary room service the day before your Disney Cruise disembarkation day. We’ve found the best breakfast supplies are fruit, cereal, and milk.

Exiting The Ship

If you have a quick breakfast in your stateroom prior to disembarking your Disney cruise, exiting the ship is likely to be easier. You can time your exit to occur while others are at breakfast. Right after each breakfast group finishes is the worst time to try and exit the ship.

One time when we went to the disembarkation breakfast we had to wait over 20 minutes in line just to exit the ship’s lobby onto the gangway. The line on the gangway took even longer.

Each passenger is scanned out with their Key To The World Card when disembarking a Disney cruise. Many people leave their Key To The World Card in their stateroom and then have difficulty disembarking. Keep your Key To The World Card with you at all times even on Disney cruise disembarkation day.

Pick Up Luggage

Any luggage that you tagged and placed outside of your stateroom the night before will be in a large area waiting to be claimed. Each section of staterooms is assigned a color and character luggage tag. This helps you to find the section where your luggage is stored. There are lots of bags, so don’t be surprised if it takes a couple of minutes to find all of your luggage.

US Customs and Border Protection

After you have collected all of your luggage, you will enter the line for US Customs and Border Protection. An agent will call you forward and ask to see your passport or other accepted documentation. They will confirm your identity and may ask some general questions before allowing you re-entry in the port.

Final Thoughts On Disney Cruise Embarkation and Disembarkation Procedures

Disney Cruise embarkation and disembarkation procedures are easy once you know what to expect. The most important thing on embarkation day is to arrive with a smartly packed embarkation day bag and all required documents for your trip.

Disney cruise disembarkation day can feel hectic if you don’t plan ahead. Leaving non-essential luggage outside of your stateroom the night before and eating a continental breakfast in your room the morning of disembarking alleviates much of the stress.

Remember to bring your Key To The World Card with you when exiting the ship to avoid delays. The Disney Cruise disembarkation process can take a while, so always check with Disney Cruise Line for recommendations before booking flights.

Disney Cruise Line Transportation Options

Whether you arrive by airplane, train, or automobile, guests must still consider transportation options when planning a cruise. Drivers will need to park for the duration of the voyage. Those flying or taking a train will need to get to the cruise port. Depending on the port your cruise sails from, there can be several Disney Cruise Line transportation options available.

Listed below are options for Disney Cruise Line Transportation Options for Port Canaveral .

Auto Rental

Guests may choose to rent a car from the airport and drop it at a location at the port. Car rental gives lots of options for side trips or staying at a hotel before or after the cruise. Keep in mind that there may be parking fees at hotels and will be fees at the port if you choose this option.

From the Walt Disney World Resort: Take I-4 east or 417 east to State Road 528 east (Beeline Expressway). Continue on State Road 528 over the Indian River and the Banana River. Turn right onto State Road 401, which will loop and head north over the channel locks. Stay in the right-hand lane and follow the signs to Cruise Terminal 8.

From Orlando International Airport: Take State Road 528 east (Beeline Expressway). Continue on State Road 528 over the Indian River and the Banana River. Turn right onto State Road 401, which will loop and head north over the channel locks. Stay in the right-hand lane and follow the signs to Cruise Terminal 8.

Parking at Port Canaveral

The Canaveral Port Authority operates the parking facility. Cash, MasterCard, and Visa are the only acceptable forms of payment. Personal checks will not be accepted.

Outdoor and garage parking at the pier for vehicles up to 20 feet in length is available for cruises as follows:

• 3-day cruise, $64
• 4-day cruise, $80
• 5-day cruise, $96
• 7-day cruise, $128

For vehicles longer than 20 feet, the rates are:

• 3-day cruise, $112
• 4-day cruise, $140
• 5-day cruise, $168
• 7-day cruise, $224

Some local hotels may also offer packages which include parking and/or transportation to the Port. If you are interested in this option, please contact your travel counselor for more details.

Shuttle Companies

Many shuttle companies service the Port Canaveral Area. Consult the airport or yellow pages for other shuttle companies in the area.

Minnie Vans

Walt Disney World’s Minnie Van Service is now available for those looking to travel in between Walt Disney World Resort and Disney Cruise Line’s Port Canaveral terminal. The service is currently only available to book directly with Disney Cruise Line via Embarkation Services. It is a one way Minnie Van Service between Port Canaveral and Walt Disney World and it costs $240. The Minnie Vans can accommodate up to 6 guests plus luggage. The Minnie Vans to Port Canaveral are typically stocked with bottled water, chocolates, books, and will show movies.

Drop off at Port Canaveral will take place through security right at the curb.

Limousine and Towncar Services

Several reputable limousine/town car service companies operate between the Orlando area and Port Canaveral.  This is often a better value than shuttle service if you are traveling in a party of 4 or more.  Check with the town car service company to be sure you know what is included or not included.  Some companies include a short stop at a location of your choice for you to pick up necessities before you reach your destination, while other companies offer the service at an additional charge.  Same goes with infant/toddler car seats, etc.  Some companies automatically charge gratuity while others leave it to you to decide how much to tip the driver.  Check and compare different companies before you decide who to hire.

Public Transportation

Below is public transportation information for service in the Port Canaveral Area. Public Transportation will not get a guest from Orlando International Airport to Port Canaveral, but if guests are staying the area, there is public transportation. The transit website gives detailed information regarding available options.

Taxi Companies

Several taxi companies service the Port Canaveral area. While it may be possible to take a taxi from outside of the Port Canaveral area, it may not be the most cost-effective.

Both Uber and Lift drivers are available near the ports, as well as in Orlando, and many other nearby cities. Utilizing a ride share option does allow you to get to the port at the time you’re wanting to arrive, however depending on what size car you need, it might be just as cost effective to rent a car and drive it yourself. Pricing tends to range from $70 for a basic rideshare vehicle (add about $5 for a vehicle with a car seat) up to about $150 for a more deluxe ride.

Make sure you download the respective app of the rideshare service you are looking to use before arriving for your vacation and go through the registration process, so you’ll be ready to go when it’s time to go.

Disney Cruise Line Shuttle to Port Canaveral

Remember the good old days of the days of the Magical Express? Ahh how we miss the Magical Express. Although now you can take the Mears Connect Driven By Sunshine Disney shuttle service it’s not quite the same. 

Well, the Disney Cruise Line shuttle is as close to the Magical Express as you can get, really.  Just like Disney’s Magical Express from days of old, they take care of all of your luggage for you, so you don’t have to worry about it! We loved the seamlessness of the experience. And not having to worry about much of anything once we boarded the bus.  The bus is a grand motorcoach. Complete with cushioned seats and Disney shows playing, it really is a nice way to start your Disney Cruise Line Vacation . 

Disney Cruise Line Transportation options to Port Canaveral

Getting to Port Canaveral doesn’t have to be stressful! But it’s important to have it planned ahead of time. We’ve outlined the many Transportation to Port Canaveral Options here. 

How much is the Disney Cruise Line Shuttle Bus to Port Canaveral?

Unlike Disney’s Magical Express, it is not free. At the time of publishing this, the current cost of transfers using Disney Cruise Line is $39 per person, per way. And under 3 rides for free. Depending on the size of your party, this could be more or less expensive than a ride-share service; but overall, we feel it is a pretty fair price for the convenience.

For other port destinations, prices will vary depending on the location. 

Where can you take the Disney Cruise Line Shuttle Bus from?

The Disney Cruise Line shuttle services Walt Disney World resorts, travelers at Orlando International Airport (MCO), and guests at the Hyatt Regency at MCO. 

There are also options for those not sailing out of Port Canaveral as well. Guests can be picked up at specific hotels as decided by Disney to get to just about any port. Ask your travel agent for more information, or call Disney Cruise Line to see which hotels participate in Disney Cruise Line transfers. 

Take the Disney Cruise Line Bus from your Walt Disney World Resort

Taking a land and sea vacation? The Disney Cruise Line bus makes that easy! So if you’re staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel beforehand, this is an option you can use. Once you’ve booked your hotel, you can book your transportation. And the week of your cruise you should receive an email stating the time that you’ll be picked up.  Just be ready at the Disney Cruise Line shuttle area at that time and you’ll be on your way! They will take care of your checked luggage for you, so be sure to have everything you’ll need for the day in your Disney cruise carry-on . 

It takes about an hour to get to Port Canaveral from Walt Disney World, so be sure to plan that time as part of your embarkation day. 

Disney Cruise Line Transfers from Orlando International Airport (MCO)

We always recommend flying in a day ahead of time for your cruise. With record levels of flight cancellations and delays these days, you don’t want to be late for your cruise. They will leave without you if you’re not on time! 

But if you are flying in the morning of your cruise, or if you’re staying at the Hyatt Regency Orlando the night before, you can take the Disney Cruise Line shuttle from MCO to Port Canaveral. The bus route here is quite flexible, and runs most of the day, from 9 am-2 pm. This schedule can change from time to time, so it’s best to ask if you think you’ll be cutting it close. You basically just show up when you show up, and they take care of the rest. 

Once at the airport, you’ll head down to level 1. There are signs directing you, so just be on the lookout for those and you’ll have no problem finding it. Once you check-in, you’ll receive a sticker with a character that acts as your ticket.  When it’s your turn to board, they’ll call your character and you’ll get on the bus and be on your way! 

One thing to note about taking the Disney Cruise Line bus from MCO is that, depending on your arrival time, there may be a lot of waiting. This is really hit or miss and you could be boarded almost right away, or have to wait a while. We suggest planning to wait about an hour. The journey to Port Canaveral takes about 45 minutes to an hour, so be prepared for that. 

Disney Cruise Line Transfers from Hyatt Regency at Orlando International Airport

If you’re staying at the Hyatt Regency at Orlando Airport MCO, you can also book your Disney Cruise Line transportation through them. This works slightly differently than going directly through the airport. Upon check-in, you’ll receive a letter that states a time for you to meet in the lobby, as well as a form for them to collect your luggage. Disney Cruise Line representatives will take care of your luggage for you, so all you’ll have to do is make sure the form is filled out, and that your luggage is tagged with your Disney Cruise Line luggage tags. 

Although this does seem convenient, it’s important to know that there’s also a not-so-convenient part to taking this route.  In order to get checked in for the Disney Cruise Line bus, you have to head down to the lobby around 8:00 a.m. on the day of embarkation.  And if you’re not in the lobby right around 8:00 am, expect to wait in line for what could be a very long time. At this time, you’ll check in, and turn in your luggage sheet to a Disney Cruise Line rep so that they know to take your luggage. They will then give you a return slip to let you know when you can board the bus.  They’ll pick up your luggage and it will magically appear in your stateroom!

Just a note on this- even if you did not book your Disney Cruise Line transportation through the hotel, but are staying there, you can still have your luggage picked up and taken care of for you. You will have to wait in line though to turn in your luggage sheet if you want to do this, or you can simply take care of your luggage yourself. 

Take the Disney Cruise Line Bus when you disembark

Once you have returned from your amazing Disney Cruise vacation, you have to have a way to get to your next destination! Whether that is the airport or a Walt Disney World hotel, the Disney Cruise Line bus can take you there. You’ll just need to make sure you have your Key To The World Card ready to be scanned and they’ll direct you to the correct bus. Again, be prepared for some waiting here.  Depending on what time you disembark, you could either be waiting in a long line, or waiting for your cruise bus to get full enough for it to leave. 

The Disney Cruise Line bus will only take you to Orlando International Airport or a Walt Disney World Resort hotel from Port Canaveral; so if you’re headed somewhere else, you’ll need to arrange a different mode of transport. 

How to Book Disney Cruise Line Transportation

Booking a Disney Cruise Line transfer is easy! You can add this when you book your trip, or you can call in and add it later. If you have to call Disney Cruise Line to add transportation, just be aware that wait times have been extremely long. This is one reason we recommend booking through a Disney Travel Agent for your Disney Cruise , so that they can take care of things like waiting on long hold times for you.  And if you realize you wish you had booked return transportation for disembarkation day but didn’t, never fear. You can book this onboard with guest services. 

Pros of Disney Cruise Line Bus Transportation

There are definitely pros of booking DCL bus transportation! The convenience is great. You don’t really have to worry about your luggage. And you’ll have peace of mind knowing that you’re being taken care of by Disney. Also, depending on the size of your party, you might find this option a little cheaper than some other Disney Cruise Line Transportation options. 

In addition, most of the time , guests who are using the Disney Cruise Line shuttle are not held to the traditional method of port arrival times. When you check in online for your Disney Cruise , you’ll normally choose a port arrival time. However, this changes when booking Disney Cruise transfers. Most of the time, as a DCL shuttle guest, you’ll get to board once you arrive at the port. Easy! 

Cons of Disney Cruise Line Bus Transportation

There are also cons of Disney Cruise Line transportation though! Again, depending on your party size, this could be quite expensive. This is really going to depend on how many people you have. The other con, which is really our main complaint about Disney busses at Walt Disney World, is that you could be waiting a lot. This won’t always be the case, but you definitely will want to prepare for it.  

What Port Arrival Time Should I choose if I have transportation booked with Disney Cruise Line?

You can pick whatever time you want! Port Arrival times are very flexible for guests taking the Disney Cruise bus. We recommend getting the earliest time possible during Disney Cruise Check-In . At least in recent times, they won’t make you wait if you arrive early if you’ve taken the bus to get there.  That’s one benefit of taking the bus. But also be aware that you may not get there are early as you want, depending on how long you have to wait for the bus. Overall, we love the Disney Cruise Line bus! It’s comfortable, clean and reliable. And is a magical way to start your vacation!

Nine of us traveled on the DCL bus. Worth it. However on the way to the ship, you needed ear plugs since the sound was so loud. On the way back, ideal level. Wish I had known on the first trip, I would have asked the driver to turn down the sound since we all complained on the loudness.

That’s too bad! We’ve taken the DCL bus a few times and have never had an issue with the noise. Sorry you experienced that!

If we are staying at WDW and we’re taking a dcl bus do we still pick a port arrival time? This wasn’t the case when we cruised prior to Covid but I’m seeing conflicting information now.

Hi! Yes, you still choose a port arrival time, but they just don’t hold you to it. The Cast Member I spoke with said that you should just choose the earliest time slot available, but once you arrive, they allow you to start the process at port. When we last took the bus to Port Canaveral a few months ago, this is how it worked for us as well. Hope that helps, have a great cruise!

The 2021-built/2022-inaugurated DCL Disney Wish cruise ship is The Walt Disney Company's newest and the first in a series of all three newbuilds . The Disney ship Wish was originally scheduled for launch in 2021-Q4 (inauguration by Christmas 2021) and to start passenger shipping operations in January 2022. However, due to COVID-related issues (shipbuilding yard closures, supply chain disruptions), the liner's introduction was postponed for 2022-Q2 (July).

MS Disney Wish is DCL fleet 's 5th vessel. The other two units from this series (TRITON-class sisterships) are with postponed launches and deliveries currently scheduled for 2024 ( Disney Treasure ) and 2025 ( Disney Destiny ).

The TRITON-class is very similar (as size and capacity) to the sisterships Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy .

DCL's new boats are originally planned for year-round deployed in the Caribbean and Florida-homeported - in PortMiami (Destiny) and Port Canaveral (Wish, Treasure).

Like all DCL ships, the Disney Wish vessel (IMO 9834739) is currently Bahamas- flagged (MMSI 311001098) and registered in Nassau .

History - construction and ownership

DCL-Disney Cruise Line is a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company (shipowner). The company was incorporated in 1996 as "Magical Cruise Company Ltd". Walt Disney also owns the Bahamian private island Castaway Cay (exclusive port of call - for Disney ships only), an exclusive Cruise Terminal at Port Canaveral (Orlando) Florida USA  and the exclusive Lighthouse Point (privately-developed cruise resort complex on Eleuthera Island, Bahamas). Disney cruises are marketed as "family vacations" and feature unique and exclusive activities, such as costumed Disney Characters, adults-only deck areas, dedicated facilities for teens, kids and infants-toddlers, signature (trademarked) shipboard facilities and activities, themed live entertainment.

In early-March 2016, Walt Disney announced plans to build three new liners (the company's largest) and in July 2017 signed a 3-unit shipbuilding agreement with Meyer Werft Gmbh (Germany). Triton-Class vessel's interior design, facilities and cruise itineraries are still a well-protected secret. What is known so far is that they will be LNG-powered (by liquefied natural gas), gross tonnage 144,000 GT tons (larger than the originally announced 135,000 GT) and passenger capacity 2500 (1250 staterooms). This design is only slightly larger than the previous Disney Dream-Class.

The 3500-passenger ship Disney Wish is no exception with its primary market being families with small children (especially with kids younger than 8) - the major revenue provider for The Walt Disney Company. The vessel features some of the most innovative technologies and "best fun" ideas at sea, including:

• pieces of "Enchanted Art" adorning the walls of hallways - paintings and pictures that are actually framed LCD screens with a technology to recognize guests present and proceeding with one of several animations;
• wave phones in every stateroom (used to call or text other guests) and effectively replacing the old onboard beeper system (now the counselors' messages come directly to the parents' phones);
• the Magical Portholes on the walls of all Inside cabins (LED screens showing real-time outside views).

The company's clientele consists almost entirely of North American travelers (USA and Canada). Disney's new approach to teens and young couples features age-related activities and limited access to shipboard venues, adding a really strong appeal for multi-generational cruisers.

Ship's dress code is similar to Disney's luxury resorts - daily casual and evening resort casual - men with jackets (no ties) and pants, women - with summer dresses (optional gowns). All Disney Triton-Class ship cruise itineraries include one "pirate night" and one semi-formal night. On 3-day cruises, one night is casual, 4-days are with 2 casual evenings, on 5-days and longer - 3 nights are casual.

DCL's shipboard gratuities are now USD 14.50 per person per day (US$15.50 per Suite guest daily). Tips are generally given to waiting staff (including assistant waiters) and cabin attendants/stewards. Additionally, a 15% gratuity on all beverages is automatically charged to the passenger's shipboard account.

Decks and Cabins

MS Disney Wish staterooms (1238 total, in 26 grades) are mainly midship-located Balconies. All cabins and suites are well planned and equipped with the travel industry's latest amenities. Like on all Disney ships, passenger staterooms by sizes are ranked among the industry's largest standard cabins, designed to easily accommodate four people. Cabins are with ample storage space, lounge/living area and split bathrooms (1 room with shower-bathtub-sink-WC, and separate toilet-sink). Beds on are raised to allow underbed storage for 2 medium-sized suitcases. Each cabin has as standard amenities 2 mirrored vanities with chairs, 22-inch smart HDTV (satellite reception, infotainment system), iPod docking station, 2 rechargeable "Wave Phones" (for shipwide use).

The boat has 15 passenger-accessible decks , of which 10 are with cabins. There are a total of 35x wheelchair-accessible cabins for passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility.

DCL's innovative Inside Cabin features (industry's first) "Magical Portholes" - large, round-shaped LCD screens (positioned above the beds) projecting real-time outside views provided by the ship's cameras. Veranda Cabin's balcony is fitted with 2 deckchairs and a low table.

Concierge Suites and Concierge Family Cabins offer direct access to the ship's concierge-served facilities (1 small lounge, private sundeck area with chairs, free food and drinks). Most 1-Bedroom Suites are with connecting doors, Queen bed (convertible to twins), sitting/lounge area with double sofabed, 1 pull-down bed (in the living room), walk-in closet, 2 bathrooms (one with a whirlpool hot-tub).

One of the largest accommodations are the Royal Suites, featuring a separate living room, wet bar, kitchenette (small cooking/dining area), media library, outdoor/balcony Jacuzzi.

The "Wish Tower Suite" is the DCL's (and the industry's) first-of-its-kind loft suite located in the ship's forward funnel (smokestack).

The unique accommodation is sized 1965 ft2 (183 m2), with max capacity 8 passengers, and interior design themed on Walt Disney's 3D animation film "Moana" (2016). The Wish Tower Suite features 2x master bedrooms, 4x full bathrooms, half-bath (powder room), library (converting to a bedroom), kids' room (with built-in bunkbeds). The living room (on the lower level) is flanked by an open dining area, a pantry, and a bar, all offering unique views across the ship's upper decks through a 2-story window wall.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

The Wish ship has 3x themed MDRs (main restaurants) called "Animator's Palate", "Enchanted Garden", and "Royal Palace". There are 2x adults-only specialty restaurants - "Remy" (named after the "Ratatouille" movie star, French cuisine) and "Palo" (Italian cuisine) as alternative dining options. The line's Rotational Dining system allows you to rotate to each of the three main restaurants each night while your servers follow you. The Animator's Palate has screens showing animated Disney characters and themes from "Finding Nemo" movie. The Enchanted Garden is a Versailles-inspired room, featuring lighting effects, transforming the day into night. The Royal Palace is princesses-themed with numerous portraits of "Cinderella" and the "Sleeping Beauty" movie characters (even the bread baskets are shaped like Cinderella's coach). The food quality is very good, the service staff is amicable and timely.

The Remy restaurant is a classy place to be on any special occasion, offering a marvelous French menu and charging serious prices - a service fee of $75 PP (reservations are required, along with the formal dress code), drinks and wine are additional. The Palo restaurant is an Italian (Mediterranean) eatery with US$20 cover PP (serves dinner and on selected days - Champagne brunch). Superb fish and seafood entrees, a cold buffet (meats, cheese, shrimp, salads and desserts) and several hot made-to-order items. The "Cabanas" casual dining complex on Deck 11 has several food and drink stations for hot and cold buffet items (including made-to-order omelets and sandwiches). The "Flo's Cafe" offers burgers, chicken fingers, wraps, pizza, salads.

In late-December 2020, DCL released a teaser video that revealed that the Disney character Cinderella will be the lobby statue positioned in the Atrium's lower/base level. The midship-located Grand Hall Atrium is a 3-deck high entertainment area with an open-floor design and a grand staircase. At the liner's stern (aft hull section) is painted the Disney character Rapunzel.

Disney's 35-minute youtube video production released on April 29, 2021, revealed the following signature features of DCL Disney Wish.

• onboard appearances by Disney characters (Olaf, Captain Minnie, Captain Mickey, a fairy godmother)
• The 760-ft (232-m) long waterslide (Slide-a-Saurus Rex) has show scenes, special lighting and sound effects. In comparison to Fantasy-Dream, Wish has more swimming pools (7 total) and outdoor deck spaces, plus AquaMouse (pool district/water playground for families).
• The Oceaneer Club (a dedicated venue with supervised activities for children 3- to 12-years-old) is currently not available on other Disney ships. Other kids clubs include Marvel Super Hero Academy (Spider-Man, Ant-Man, The Wasp, Black Panther, kids can make their own-design superhero costumes), Fairytale Hall (Rapunzel Art Studio, Belle Library, Anna and Elsa’s Summerhus), Imagineering Lab (VR experience/kids can design and virtually ride their own roller coasters - based on designs like Tomorrowland's Space Mountain Roller Coaster, Anaheim Disneyland's Matterhorn Bobsleds roller coasters, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad/mine-train roller coaster), Small World Nursery (for toddlers 6-months to 3-years-old, with babysitting), Hero Zone (indoor playground/sports arena), Olaf’s Royal Picnic (character interactions, live music performances).
• For teenagers (11 to 17-yo) are designed exclusive hangouts with supervised programs. Children 11 to 14-yo have a separate hangout.
• On the deck above the Navigation Bridge/Wheelhouse are positioned staterooms. Some of the Suites are 2-level accommodations (fleet's first duplex apartments with connecting spiral staircases).

New for DCL dining venues include Palo Steakhouse (115-seats, also serving traditional Italian cuisine/Cogsworth-themed), Enchante Restaurant (by Michelin chef Arnaud Lallement/Lumiere-themed, capacity 45 seats, a-la-carte-priced menu, 6-course & 9-course dinners), The Rose Restaurant & Bar Lounge ("Beauty and the Beast" movie-themed).

Quiet Cove Pool District is an adults-only Sundeck with a swimming pool (infinity pool), Jacuzzis, Pool Bar, Pool Cafe.

The boat has two 3D Cinemas (named Wonderland Cinema, Never Land Cinema). These are screening rooms (with capacity 84 seats and 86 seats) for films produced by Walt Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm.

Luna Square is a midship-located space with family-style entertainment during the day, and in the evenings transforming into an adults-only venue. Luna Lounge features a 2-deck LED screen, Bar (Luna Libations), stage (for interactive and live shows, like “Villains Game Night”, “Disney Songbook”, “Disney Uncharted Adventure”.

Star Wars superheroes entertain adults at the new Star Wars movie-themed " Hyperspace Lounge ”. The venue became "hyper-famous" for offering one of the world's most expensive cocktails - the Kaliburr Crystal, priced at USD 5000. The new drink is encased inside a camtono (a security container for storing valuables in The Mandalorian/The Book of Boba Fett) which opens with a button touch and a twist of a rotary cylindric handle. The carrier's side panels then fall open granting access to the "content" - three shot-style glasses full of the expensive concoction. While the ingredients are not listed, there are some speculations that one of them is Remy Martin's Louis XIII cognac (US$3000-4000 a bottle) or other top-shelf liquor.

• Regular-priced beverages at the Hyperspace Lounge are priced from US$15.
• With the purchase of any cocktail, guests can take home as a souvenir the Hyperspace Lounge Glass for an additional US$12.

Disney ship Wish has 3 family restaurants with table service: "Arendelle" (with a Frozen Dining Experience/live shows featuring Disney Frozen 2 film's characters Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Sven, Olaf), "1923" (the year Walt Disney Studios opened/with menus featuring California food specialties), and "Worlds of Marvel" (superheroes and multimedia dining experience).

Also new for the DCL fleet are the "quick food" bars "Marceline Market" and "Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods". Both are complimentary and open throughout the day.

• "Marceline Market" is a food marketplace with a changing menu (and daily specials), both indoor-outdoor seating. All dishes are freshly prepared and include American and international classics, seafood, comfort foods, baked goods, soups, salads, vegetarian and vegan fare, desserts. Marceline Market is casual, with buffet-style dining (for breakfast and lunch) and table-served diners (with cooked-to-order entrees).
• "Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods" is a family restaurant (for quick bites) open throughout the day, including for lunch and dinner. This is an outdoor (seaside boardwalk-style) eatery with shaded seating and all 5x themed food stations - Mickey’s Smokestack Barbecue (fleet's first BBQ bar), Donald’s Cantina (fleet's first Mexican food bar), Daisy’s Pizza Pies, Goofy’s Grill, Sweet Minnie’s Ice Cream (also offering soft ice cream).

On Disney Wish (at Worlds of Marvel Restaurant/deck 4) debuts DCL's "Avengers: Quantum Encounter”. The new cinematic experience combines dining (Marvel Cinematic Universe-themed menu) with superheroes (Ant-Man and The Wasp on an action-packed mission), storytelling (with guests playing interactive roles) and technology (Quantum Core is a new device that causes objects to change size/shrink and grow remotely). Worlds of Marvel Restaurant's dishes are inspired by Marvel Studios' fictional countries Wakanda and Sokovia, as well as Avengers Compound (NYC base).

• Enchanted Garden Restaurant (696-seat forward Dining Room, inspired by the gardens of Versailles; serves as a buffet for breakfast and lunch, full service for dinner 5:45-8:15 pm)

• Animator's Palate Restaurant (696- seat aft Dining Room, animator's studio design, features favorite Disney-character dinner shows; serves complimentary drinks; Rotational Dining with two fixed Dinner seatings - at 5:45 pm and 8:15 pm)

Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport

The ship's kids clubs are the main reason for Disney's high loyalty passengers ratio. Besides all the Disney characters, innovative technologies and fun attractions, Disney children counselors are a pretty big reason many families to repeat their bookings with the company. Always smiling and friendly, they are hugely experienced, all college-educated, attentive and downright. The Oceaneer's "Club" and "Lab" facilities (ages 3-10) are connected, thus doubling the fun space. The "Oceaneer's Club" features the "Andy's Room" (with oversized Disney characters for kids to climb on) and the "Laugh Floor" (with its "laugh-o-meter" and Mike and Sully of "Monsters Inc"). The "Oceaneer's Lab" is maritime-themed, featuring an Animator's Studio and a small Sound Studio. The new Disney approach allows all kids ages 3-10 to access the same clubs with separate rooms and age-related activities.

Cruise liner's children club is called "Edge" (ages 11-13) properly secluded on Deck 13 in the funnel. The best attractions here are the 18 ft (5,5 m) high LCD wall, the video karaoke, numerous interconnected PCs. The teen-only "Vibe" club (ages 14-17) is sized 9000 ft2 (836 m2), fitted with a fountain bar and its own sundeck and swimming pools.

Public spaces are decorated in deep blue and red, with numerous "Mickeys" just about everywhere (cabin, artwork, dinnerware, railings). One of the ship's most memorable places is the 3-deck high Atrium Lobby with its golden hue, the wide royalty-style winding staircase, and the Donald Duck bronze statue. The Grand Hall Atrium is a hub area connecting restaurants, theaters, and shops. You may check emails in the Internet cafe, but there's also Wi-Fi coverage throughout the ship.

Like all Disney liners, Wish has no Casino (gambling lounge).

Onboard fun activities

All stage shows feature intricate sets and Disney themed captivating performances, and the big place for grand entertainment is the Disney Theater with goldies like the "Golden Mickeys" and "Villains Tonight", new amazing stage productions, like the "Disney's Believe" (directed by Gordon Greenberg) and all the best Disney movies in 3D. Walt Disney characters onboard have always been the greatest sensation of all, and there are countless opportunities to meet and greet Mickey and company around the ship - in contrast to Disneyland, here they all are accessible and will always stop for a hug and a photo with you. Another big success is the "Pirates in the Caribbean" kids party divided into two programs - the sing-along "Mickey's Pirates in the Caribbean" followed by the "Club Pirate" (with many special effects) and great Disney fireworks (between the shows).

Wellness (SPA and FITNESS), swimming pools, waterslides, technology

The wellness complex "Senses" (Spa & Beauty) offers all the usual treatments (haircuts, manicures) and more exotic choices (hot-stone massages, mud baths).

• Senses Spa features an outdoor relaxation space/sundeck (with Jacuzzis, padded sun loungers and deckchairs) where can also be held open-air Yoga sessions.
• Senses Spa's "The Rainforest" (ice lounge) offers thermal therapies and is fitted with heated loungers, sensory showers.
• The wellness complex also has Treatment Rooms (for massages), Sauna Room, Steam Room, Dry Room, Spa Villas (for couples).
• Senses Fitness Center consists of a large main room (with premium gym equipment) and separate Cycle Studio and Aerobics Studio (where at an additional fee are offered Yoga and Pilates classes).

Untangled Salon (Beauty Parlor) and Hook’s Barbery (Barber Shop/Men’s Salon) are DCL fleet's first venues dedicated to hair- and beauty services for adults.

• Untangled Salon (themed on Princess Rapunzel from Disney's movie "Tangled", 2010) is colored in purple and gold and offers haircuts and styling, manicures, pedicures, teeth whitening, skin treatments.
• Hook’s Barbery (themed on Captain Hook/from Disney's movie "Peter Pan", 1953) is decorated in dark woods, furnished with leather chairs and golden mirrors, and offers haircuts, shaves, skincare and nail services. Part of the Barbery is a hidden bar serving premium liquors (bourbons, vintage whiskies, aged rums).

The Sports Deck has a small sports court, a mini-golf course, Ping-Pong tables, a walking/jogging track.

The "Chill" is a teen-only Spa within the facility.

The pool deck has a large area for family fun water activities, featuring 2 whirlpools/hot tubs and 2 kids pools - "Donald's" (5 ft deep) and "Mickey's" (with a spiral slide). A big attraction here is the big LED screen mounted on the funnel. There's a toddler splash area (Nemo-themed) located in the center on Deck 11 with huge glass panes for parents to monitor their kids.

The Slide-a-Saurus Rex waterslide (water-coaster at sea) is located atop the ship and features a 765 ft (233 m) long 4-decks high transparent tube. The spinning tube reaches an incredible height of 150 ft (46 m) above sea level (there's a 42-inch / 107 cm height requirement). "Toy Story Splash Zone" is the kids' aquapark where the waterslide ends. The adults-only "Quiet Cove" pool area is a great place to hide from all the little angels and devils around the ship.

Midship on decks 11-12 there is a Mickey-themed family district with a total of 6x pools (various sized and with different depths) surrounded by spacious sundecks with plenty of sun loungers.

"Disney Uncharted Adventure" is another fleet-first - an interactive family experience that combines imagination and VR technology into a multidimensional sea voyage full of Disney-Pixar characters. The new gaming experience is offered via guests' mobile devices. Via the app "Play Disney Parks", the phones/tablets transform into magical spyglasses allowing them to sail uncharted worlds, unlock missions, solve puzzles, conquer other "virtual cruisers".

• The "virtual ship" is mastered by Captain Minnie Mouse assisted by Captain Mickey.
• Players choose the ship's course, with VR options like Motunui Island (from the Moana movie), Neverland Island (Peter Pan movie), New Orleans (from "The Princess and the Frog" movie), Sydney NSW (from Finding Nemo) and others.
• "Disney Uncharted Adventure" gaming includes signature characters like Moana, Tiana, Tinker Bell, Kakamora, Peter Pan, Captain Cook, Nemo & friends.
• You must download the app prior to the cruise.
• Each player can choose to complete all or just a few adventures/missions and is allowed to start and stop at any time.

AquaMouse is a family fun water attraction and another DCL fleet-first.

• AquaMouse waterslide has length 760 ft (232 m) of winding tubes suspended above upper decks. The experience is complete with video scenes, special lighting and sound effects, "splashtacular surprises" (60+ water effects).
• The water ride starts with boarding 2-seater vehicles and ascending into a "magical tunnel" teleporting into the virtual worlds of “Scuba Scramble” and "Swiss Meltdown" (two short animation movies played out through the tube's large virtual windows/LED screens). Along the way are encountered curious sea creatures and popular Disney characters.
• At the height of the "show", passengers are blasted out of the tunnel to start watersliding around the upper ship decks - first around the forward funnel (through an enclosed tube/lighting effects), then through a dark tunnel followed by a transparent tube revealing breathtaking ocean views. Follow a series of speed blasters up and down ending with a loop over the ship's edge and into the Mermaid Lagoon (swimming pool).
• Both AquaMouse animated shorts (Scuba Scramble, Swiss Meltdown) are starred by Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. "Scuba Scramble" is an underwater adventure (at Mermaid Lagoon), while "Swiss Meltdown" is a mountain sledding excursion going awry. The two chipmunks Chip and Dale are in both shows, hitchhiking to Castaway Cay (DCL's Bahamian island) .

• Walt Disney Theatre (1274-seats, Magical Forest-themed entertainment lounge) is fitted with a Dolby Atmos (3D sound system) and offers live shows, aerial acrobatics performances, 3x grand-style productions (in the evenings), bingo, trivia games and 3D movies (during the day). Itineraries

Starting in July 2022, Disney Wish itinerary program is based on roundtrips to the Eastern and Western Caribbean departing from homeport Port Canaveral (Orlando City) Florida . A signature port destination included in all itineraries is DCL's private island in the Bahamas Castaway Cay .

The Maiden Voyage was rescheduled for July 22, 2022 (postponed from June 9th) due to construction delays, but eventually departed on July 14th. The ship's ex-Port Canaveral DCL cruise program includes short break roundtrips to The Bahamas (3- and 4-night itineraries), all visiting Castaway Cay with Nassau .

Bookings on Disney Wish cruises were opened on May 17, 2021 (for Castaway Club members) and on May 27th (to general customers).

On July 15, 2017, Disney Cruise Line/DCL officially announced the company's plans to build 3 new vessels in Germany, at Meyer Werft 's Papenburg Shipyard . The so exciting for all Mickey Mouse fans announcement was made by Bob Chapek (Walt Disney Parks and Resorts company's Chairman).

MS Disney Wish's construction officially started on April 8, 2021, with the keel-laying ceremony (Meyer Werft yard/hull number 705) held at Shipyard Papenburg, being the 54th cruise vessel constructed there. During the special event, the first hull block was lowered into the building dock, and, for good luck, under the keel was placed a newly minted coin that features the Disney character Captain Minnie. The coin was placed by Philip Matthew Gennotte - Executive Manager of the subsidiary Walt Disney Imagineering (Germany) GmbH. DCL also announced that Captain Minnie will be part of the ship's hull artwork (at the bow).

Disney Wish was launched/floated out from drydock (at Meyer Werft Papenburg) on February 11, 2022.

At ~8 am local time (~6 am UTC) on March 30, 2022, started the ship's 10-hour (32-km / 20-mi long) conveyance voyage on Ems River from Papenburg towards Emden . The voyage started with the Papenburg yard's dock lock passage, and around noon passed the Friesen Bridge (near Weener). During the night, the ship arrived at Ems Barrage (a storm surge barrier near Gandersum), then headed for Eemshaven (Netherlands) where remained docked for final outfitting. Curiously, the ship navigated/moved backward, being assisted by tugboats. Next is listed the conveyance voyage's schedule (local time):

On January 22, 2019, Port Canaveral officials gathered to discuss the new liners' docking at DCL's exclusive Cruise Terminal 8. The facility was improved and upgraded in order to accommodate/berth the 3 new boats simultaneously. With scheduled deliveries in 2022 (Wish), 2024 ( Treasure ) and 2025 ( Destiny ), the newbuilds are designed with ~1250 staterooms each. To handle them, Orlando Port Canaveral's Disney Terminal 8 was upgraded to passenger capacity 7500 tourists at a time.

DCL's TRITON liners have LOA length 341 m (1119 ft), making them the fleet's longest. By GT tonnage/volume (~144,000 tons each) and passenger capacity (2500 / max 3500), the newbuilds are similarly sized as the sisterships Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy , but LNG-powered (by liquefied natural gas) and with more and new facilities and amenities. In 2025, Walt Disney will nearly double its old 4-ship fleet (Dream, Fantasy, Magic, Wonder).

At the released on March 9, 2018, the new ship's exterior rendering was shown the company's traditional black-white-red hull color scheme. New in the design is the superstructure's golden flair. Between the two funnels is located top-deck's waterpark with slides. Balcony cabins are positioned midship, which allows larger staterooms.

'"Disney Triton" was chosen as the name of Walt Disney's new vessel class/series. Triton is Ancient Greece's god of the sea. Being the son of Poseidon (the god of the waters) and Amphitrite (the goddess of the Sea), Triton is the herald for his father and usually represented as a Merman (male mermaid) having an upper human body and tail and fins of a fish. Like his father, Triton carries a trident, but his special attribute is a twisted conch shell with which he calms or raises the waves. According to the Disney story, King Triton is the protective and loving father of "The Little Mermaid" Ariel, as well as one of the most powerful Disney characters ever created.

Disney Wish was officially delivered by Meyer Werft to DCL on June 9, 2022, in Port Bremerhaven . The ceremony was attended by Thomas Mazloum (DCL's President), Jan Meyer (Meyer Werft GmbH's Managing Director), Henning Stellermann (Meyer Werft's Project Manager).

Following the delivery to DCL, Disney Wish left Bremerhaven (on June 9th, at 17:29 UTC) and via Ponta Delgada/Sao Miguel Island Azores Portugal (bunkering stop on June 13th, between 12:11-21:56 UTC) made the Transatlantic crossing from Europe to the USA, arriving at Port Canaveral on June 20th, at 9:08 UTC.

In 2019 was announced that during their inaugural seasons in the Caribbean, two of Disney's newest ships (Wish and Treasure) will be homeported in Port Canaveral - the principal seaport for Orlando City (Walt Disney's theme park capital). The 3rd newbuild (Destiny) will be based in PortMiami . In Miami and Port Canaveral, DCL's newest liners are fueled by LNG bunkering barges docking alongside the berthed vessel.

In late-April 2021, DCL released the first video of the "Designing the Disney Wish" series themed on the ship's design, Disney characters and special features. The hull design features Captain Minnie Mouse (bow character) and the sculpture of Rapunzel (aft/at the stern). The liner's interior is designed using three classic Disney themes - fairytale castles (including for the Atrium's Grand Hall), forests and animals, and the spirit of the sea. The 3-deck high Atrium (midship-located, open-floor area) features a grand staircase, the bronze sculpture of Cinderella (at the Lobby level), and a large chandelier with thousands of crystals and a huge "wishing star" at its bottom.

Ship christening 2022

In June 2022 DCL announced that instead of a godmother/godfather/godparents the Wish ship will have godchildren - from the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Make-A-Wish is a 1980-founded children's charity (Phoenix, Arizona USA-headquartered American non-profit organization) created to fulfill the wishes of children with critical illnesses (website wish.org).

DCL's announcement included that during the ship's naming ceremony, the Make-A-Wish children will recite the traditional blessings for the vessel. The Disney-Make-A-Wish partnership also includes creating and selling fleetwide Disney-themed merchandise, with 10% of the profits donated to the Foundation.

The christening ceremony was held on June 30th (pierside at Port Canaveral Terminal) and attended by Bob Chapek (The Walt Disney Company's CEO) and Josh D'Amaro (Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products). Anika Noni Rose (voice actor for the character Tiana in "The Princess and the Frog"/2009 animated musical film) performed live singing along with characters from the movies Toy Story, Frozen, Marvel, Star Wars.

Near the end of the naming ceremony, three godchildren/Make-A-Wish children recited the traditional ship blessing.

Disney Cruise Line names its newest cruise ship

I t was bound to happen sometime, but Disney Cruise Line waited until its last of three new sister ships to name one Disney Destiny.

The sister ship to Disney Wish, which debuted out of Port Canaveral in 2022 and the soon-to-debut Disney Treasure arriving in Central Florida this December, the third ship in what was originally called the Trident class had its keel laying ceremony Wednesday at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

It won’t start sailing until 2025, and its home port has yet to be named, but among the details revealed for what will be the eighth ship in the cruise line’s fleet was the theme of the vessel, “Heroes & Villains.”

As such, the filigree artwork for the bow will be of Minnie Mouse wearing a superhero-style outfit complete with a cape.

The cruise line said among the characters from which it will mine features on board will be classic Disney animation films, “The Lion King,” “Hercules” and “One Hundred and One Dalmatians.”

Disney of course owns plenty of good vs. evil intellectual property including Star Wars and Marvel.

“The Disney Destiny will celebrate our most legendary Disney stories and characters, bringing them to life in new and exciting ways exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests,” said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager for the cruise line, in a press release. “As we continue to expand our fleet, the Disney Destiny will further strengthen our position as a leader in family cruising.”

Just like Disney Wish and Treasure, Disney Destiny will be powered by liquefied natural gas, a cleaner burning fuel that’s part of the cruise industry’s efforts to reduce emissions.

All three are the 144,000 gross-ton, 1,254-stateroom vessels but still targeting the 4,000-passenger capacity of its older ships, 2011’s Disney Dream and 2012’s Fantasy. The line’s first ships are the smaller Disney Magic that debuted in 1998 and Disney Wonder in 1999. They come in at 84,000 gross tons with 875 staterooms.

The line also is finishing construction for an Asia-bound cruise ship named Disney Adventure that will be the largest in the fleet at 208,000 gross tons.

Disney Wish became the line’s first new ship in more than a decade. It continues to do short three- and four-night Bahamas sailings while Disney Treasure will pick up seven-night trips to the Caribbean.

Not all Disney Cruise Line cabins are created equal.

With the Disney Treasure setting sail on its maiden voyage this December, many travelers are planning trips on the newest ship of the Disney fleet in 2025 . Amongst them, some cruising newbies and even veteran travelers are likely wondering what kind of cabin — and on which deck — they should book for their adventure.

Choosing a cabin to cruise can be a bit more complicated than one might think, so we’re here to help. Taking into account everything we know about the Disney Treasure, plus experience on other Disney Cruise Line ships including the Treasure’s sister ship the Disney Wish, we’ve narrowed it down to what we think are the best and worst standard stateroom (no concierge or massive suites here) options.

Our pick for the bestselling would be a Deluxe Verandah Stateroom in the midship section of deck 8. There are several reasons to go with this room type in this area of the ship.

For starters, the verandah is a must-do if possible. Yes, it’s a bit of an upcharge, but the extra space makes the cabin feel considerably larger, and offers wonderful ocean views and a beautiful sitting space when sailing or docked, plus — as we’ll get into below — it’s very helpful for seasickness.

As for the cabin’s overall location, the midship of deck 8 is right in the “middle of the action” as it were. It’s located in the middle of the ship, about equal distance from the Great Hall and all its venues including cafes and retail that span decks 3-4-5 below, as well as the above-deck amenities including the pools and etc. upon decks 11-14. The midship location also includes easy access to both elevator banks and the staircases. In addition, deck 8 is home to Fairytale Fresh Laundry, meaning that you won’t need to lug clothes too far to get some done.

Finally, this location provides some of the best possible relief to seasickness. The verandah allows an influx of fresh air into the room, as well as actual views of the water which help dissipate seasick feelings for many. In addition, the location in the middle of the ship cuts down on the amount of rocking and movement you’ll be able to feel, which should cut down on queasiness.

While this does get our pick for best, there is one potential drawback: There will likely be a decent amount of foot traffic outside your room given the aforementioned proximity to so many of the ship’s amenities.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, we have our pick for the worst cabin option on the Disney Treasure: An Inside Stateroom toward the aft of deck 2.

This style of room, located in the lowest deck of the ship to feature state rooms, not only doesn’t feature a verandah, it doesn’t even have a porthole or window. This can make room feel quite claustrophobic. In addition, the lack of an outside view can increase feelings of queasiness and seasickness.

Furthermore, being located all the way down in the bowels of the ship, the area is comparatively far from from all the ship’s internal and external amenities, making it a slog to reach almost any of them, even with the elevator. There’s also a noise issue, as the hum of the engines is more audible lower on the ship, especially toward the aft portion.

However, in compassion to our best choice, Deck 2 does offer the “perk” of not much foot traffic at all, since it’s so far from the popular common areas, which definitely matters to some passengers.

While these are our opinions on “best” and “worst” options, they’re obviously open to conjecture. The “perks” that are worth extra money to some may not be so to others, and the same can be said for negatives that may be deal breakers for some and not matter to others. Weddings? Burials at sea? Unexpected things you can do on a cruise ship besides cruising

When thinking of a cruise , we generally imagine sailing away for a relaxing vacation of sun and fun. Lots of food, perhaps a drink with an umbrella in it and the magnificent ocean.

We're lucky in Florida, home to some of the world's busiest cruise ports including PortMiami, Port Canaveral , Port Everglades, Port Tampa Bay, JAXPORT, and Port of Palm Beach. There is also a port in Key West, but this is mainly used for cruise ship calls rather than a homeport.

Most people know cruises offer a great value and are nearly all-inclusive with good food , accommodations and entertainment. Add to that exotic ports of call and shore excursions that strike all fancies, from beach bums to adrenaline junkies.

But there are some lesser-known accommodations available on most cruise ships .

From joyous occasions to celebrations of life, here are some extraordinary services cruise ships offer.

You can get married on a cruise ship

Want to say "I do" onboard a majestic ship or at an exotic location?

You can do that on a cruise ship and be on your honeymoon at the same time.

Many cruise lines, including Disney Cruise Lines , Carnival and Royal Caribbean , offer weddings and wedding renewals aboard the ship or at scenic tropical locations.

Your guests don't even have to cruise with you.

For example, 50 non-sailing guests can take part in weddings aboard Carnival Cruise Line ships before the cruise sails from the port of embarkation.

Royal Caribbean allows for 75 of 150 wedding guests to be non-sailing. NCL permits up to 10 non-sailing guests free of charge, but a reception must be booked if you have up to 50 guests who are not sailing.

Check with your cruise line for availability and details.

Burial at sea: Scattering a loved one's ashes from a cruise ship

A loved one's remains can be buried at sea during a cruise.

Several cruise lines allow for the scattering of cremated remains from their ships, provided the guest can produce the decedent's death and cremation certificates.

The remains are generally required to be in a biodegradable urn and some cruise lines require the entire urn to be tossed into the sea.

Cruise lines work with guests to determine burial time and place. Guests are usually taken to a more secluded part of the ship and given privacy for scattering the remains.

Contact your cruise line before boarding for availability and policies.

Cruise ships have jails. Can you get arrested on a cruise ship?

While there are a lot of perks for traveling via cruise ship, there are some facilities available on most cruise ships that may surprise you.

For example, many cruise ships have a small jail, called a brig. The brig is generally located on one of the bottom decks.

Misbehavior or breaking the law on a cruise ship can see you confined to your cabin or locked up in the brig.

Do cruise ships have hospitals?

Most cruise ships sailing from U.S. ports have medical facilities, including a doctor, on board to treat minor illnesses and injuries, and to stabilize patients with more serious health issues until they can be transferred to land-based facilities.

While available, medical care on a cruise ship is not free . Your land-based health insurance is generally not accepted on board and medical service fees are charged to your sailing account.

Your health insurance may not cover you while you're on the ship and out of the country. Check with your provider before boarding and look into travel health insurance for concerns over recouping any out-of-pocket costs.

Is there a morgue on cruise ships?

Morbidly, yes, there's a morgue on board. It's legally required , according to Readers Digest .

In case of a death, the body is stored in the morgue until it can be transferred off the ship.
