Disney Fantasy Itineraries

Disney fantasy review, review of disney fantasy.

The 2012-built MS Disney Fantasy cruise ship is Walt Disney 's second (Dream-class) liner with sistership Disney Dream (2010).

The vessel (IMO number 9445590) is currently Bahamas- flagged (MMSI 311058700) and registered in Nassau .

History - construction and ownership

DCL-Disney Cruise Line is a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company (shipowner). The company was incorporated in 1996 as "Magical Cruise Company Ltd". Walt Disney also owns the Bahamian private island Castaway Cay (exclusive port of call - for Disney ships only) and an exclusive Cruise Terminal at Port Canaveral (Orlando Florida) . Disney cruises are marketed as "family vacations" and feature unique and exclusive activities, such as costumed Disney Characters, adults-only deck areas, dedicated facilities for teens, kids and infants-toddlers, signature (trademarked) shipboard facilities and activities, themed live entertainment.

MS Disney Fantasy cruise ship

The 4000-passenger ship Disney Fantasy is no exception with its primary market being families with small children (especially with kids younger than 8) - the major revenue provider for the unique Walt Disney company. MS Disney Fantasy is almost 50% larger, 2-deck taller and with 44% bigger passenger capacity than the older fleet mates Magic and Wonder . The ship design is inspired by traditional 1920s ocean liners. The vessel features a navy blue hull, 2 bright red funnels, elegant Art Deco decorations and some of the most innovative technologies and fun ideas at sea, including:

  • 22 pieces of "Enchanted Art" adorning the walls of hallways - paintings and pictures that are actually framed LCD screens with a technology to recognize guests present and proceeding with one of several animations;
  • wave phones in every stateroom (used to call or text other guests) and effectively replacing the old onboard beeper system (now the counselors' messages come directly to the parents' phones);
  • the Magical Portholes on the walls of all Disney Fantasy Inside cabins (LED screens showing a real-time view of the ship).

The CLIENTELE consists almost entirely of North American travelers (the USA and Canada). The new Disney Lines approach to teens and young couples (by age-related activities and limited access onboard venues) adds a really strong appeal for multi-generational cruisers.

The DRESS CODE is similar to that of the Disney luxury resorts - day casual and evening resort casual (men - jackets (no ties) and pants, women - summer dresses). All Disney Fantasy sailings include one pirate and one semi-formal night. On 3-day Disney Fantasy cruises, one night is casual, 4-day sailings are with 2 casual evenings and on 5-day voyages 3 nights are casual.

Disney Fantasy TIPS (totaling the US $12 PP per day) are given to waiters (including the assistant waiters) and to cabin attendants. Additionally, a 15% gratuity on all drinks is automatically charged to guests' shipboard accounts.

Decks and Cabins

Most Disney Fantasy staterooms (1250 total, in 28 grades) are 205-255-ft2 Balconies. The ship has 21 Suites, 887 Balcony, 199 Oceanview and 150 Inside cabins. The largest accommodations are the Concierge Royal Suites (900 ft2 / 84 m2 plus 885 ft2 / 82 m2 terrace).

Disney Fantasy ship cabins are very well planned and equipped. Like on all Disney ships, Disney Fantasy staterooms are some of the industry's largest standard cabins, most of them designed to easily accommodate four passengers. Some of the best Disney cabins features are the ample closet space, the normal-sized living space and the split bathrooms (1 room with shower-bathtub-sink and a separate toilet and sink). Beds on Fantasy are raised to allow storing 2 medium-sized suitcases underneath, staterooms also got 2 vanities, a 22-inches smart HDTV, an iPod docking station and 2 rechargeable "Wave Phones" to be used ship-wide. The Disney Fantasy Inside cabin has a most innovative feature (and the industry's first, for that matter) - the Magical Portholes, which are LCD screens (above the beds) in the shape of portholes, projecting a real-time view outside the ship (provided by cameras). Veranda cabins feature 2 chairs and a small table on the balcony.

Concierge Suites and Concierge Family Cabins (Deck 11-12) are new for the line, offering direct access to the ship's concierge facilities (1 small lounge, a private sun deck area with chairs, free food and drinks). Most of the 1-bedroom suites are with connecting doors (1 queen bed, a sitting area with a double convertible sofa, 1 pull-down bed in the living rooms, a walk-in closet, 2 bathrooms (one with a hot-tub).

The largest Disney Fantasy stateroom, the Royal Suite, adds to all previously mentioned a living room, a wet bar, a kitchenette, media library and a Jacuzzi on the balcony.

The boat has 14 decks , of which 9 are with cabins.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

The Disney Fantasy three themed main restaurants are called "Animator's Palate", "Enchanted Garden" and "Royal Palace". There are 2 adults-only specialty restaurants - "Remy" (named after the "Ratatouille" movie star, French cuisine) and "Palo" (Italian cuisine) as alternative dining options. The line's Rotational Dining system allows you to rotate to each of the three main restaurants each night while your servers follow you. The Animator's Palate has screens showing animated Disney characters and themes from "Finding Nemo" movie. The Enchanted Garden is a Versailles-inspired room, featuring lighting effects, transforming day into night. The Royal Palace is princesses-themed with numerous portraits of "Cinderella" and the "Sleeping Beauty" movie characters (even the bread baskets are shaped as the Cinderella's coach). The food quality is very good, the service staff is amicable and timely.

MS Disney Fantasy cruise ship

The Remy specialty restaurant is a classy place to be on any special occasion, offering a marvelous French menu and charging serious prices - a service fee of $75 PP (reservations are required, along with the formal dress code), drinks and wine are additional. The Palo restaurant is an Italian (Mediterranean) eatery with $20 cover PP (serves dinner and on selected days - Champagne brunch). Superb fish and seafood entrees, a cold buffet (meats, cheese, shrimp, salads and desserts) and several hot made-to-order items. The "Cabanas" casual dining complex on Deck 11 has several food and drink stations for hot and cold buffet items (including made-to-order omelets and sandwiches). The "Flo's Cafe" offers burgers, chicken fingers, wraps, pizza, salads.

Follows the complete list of Disney Fantasy restaurants and food bars.

  • Enchanted Garden Restaurant (696-seat forward Dining Room, inspired by the gardens of Versailles; serves as a buffet for breakfast and lunch, full service for dinner 5:45-8:15 p.m.)
  • Royal Palace Restaurant (696-seat forward Dining Room, offers complimentary French cuisine; specialty coffees and drinks are extra)
  • Animator's Palate Restaurant (696- seat aft Dining Room, animator's studio design, features favorite Disney-character dinner shows; serves complimentary drinks; Rotational Dining with two fixed Dinner seatings - at 5:45 p.m. and 8:15 p.m.)
  • Flo's Cafe (quick service restaurant with 3 food stations: "Fillmore's Favorites" (lite lunch, complimentary), "Tow Mater's Grill" (burgers bar, complimentary) and "Luigi"s Pizza")
  • Cabanas (self-service complimentary restaurant with American cuisine, pasta, sushi)
  • Remy (reservations-only, adults-only French specialty restaurant for lunch and dinner; aft location, bookings via the internet or onboard)
  • Palo (144-seat Italian specialty restaurant; adults-only, reservation-only; aft location; bookings via the internet or on board).

Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport

The Disney Fantasy kids cruise fun clubs are the main reason for the line's high loyalty passengers ratio. Besides all the Disney characters and most innovative technologies and fun attractions on ships, the Disney children counselors are a pretty big reason many families to repeat their visits. Always smiling and friendly, they are hugely experienced, all college-educated, attentive and downright. The Oceaneer's "Club" and "Lab" facilities (ages 3-10) are connected, thus doubling the fun space. The "Oceaneer's Club" features the "Andy's Room" (with oversized Disney characters for kids to climb on) and the "Laugh Floor" (with its "laugh-o-meter" and Mike and Sully of "Monsters Inc"). The "Oceaneer's Lab" is maritime-themed, featuring an Animator's Studio and a small Sound Studio. The new Disney approach allows all kids ages 3-10 to access the same clubs with separate rooms and age-related activities.

The Fantasy ship children club is called "Edge" (ages 11-13) properly secluded on Deck 13 in the funnel. Best attractions here are the 18 ft (5,5 m) tall LCD wall, the video karaoke, and numerous interconnected PCs. The teen-only "Vibe" club (ages 14-17) is of 9000 ft2 (836 m2), with a fountain bar and its own sun deck and pools.

MS Disney Fantasy cruise ship

Public spaces are decorated in deep blue and red, with numerous "Mickeys" just about everywhere (cabin, artwork, dinnerware, railings). One of the ship's most memorable places is the 3-deck high Atrium lobby with its golden hue, the wide royalty-style winding staircase, and the Donald Duck bronze statue. The Fantasy Atrium is a hub area connecting restaurants, theaters, and shops. You may check emails in the Internet cafe, but there's also a Wi-Fi coverage throughout the ship. Like all Disney ships, Fantasy has no casino.

  • Fun activities on board

All Disney stage shows feature intricate sets and Disney themed captivating performances, and the big place for grand entertainment is the Disney Theater with goldies like the "Golden Mickeys" and "Villains Tonight", new amazing stage productions, like the "Disney's Believe" (directed by Gordon Greenberg) and all the best Disney movies in 3D. The themed Disney characters onboard have always been the greatest sensation of all, and there are countless opportunities to meet and greet Mickey and company around the ship - in contrast to Disneyland, here they all are accessible and will always stop for a hug and a photo with you. Another big success is the "Pirates in the Caribbean" kids party divided into two programs - the sing-along called "Mickey's Pirates in the Caribbean" followed by the "Club Pirate" (with many special effects) and great Disney fireworks between the shows.

  • SPA and FITNESS, pools, waterslide, technology

The "Senses" Spa & Salon offers all the usual treatments (haircuts, manicures) and more exotic choices (hot-stone massages, mud baths). The "Chill" is a teen-only Spa within the facility. The Fitness Center along with the usual equipment offers at additional fee Yoga and Pilates classes. The Sports Deck has a small sports court, a mini-golf course, Ping-Pong tables, a walking/jogging track.

Disney cruise water park slide Aquaduck

The pool deck has a large area for family fun water activities, featuring 2 hot tubs and 2 kids pools - "Donald's" (5 ft deep) and "Mickey's" (with a spiral slide). A big attraction here is the big LED screen mounted on the funnel. There's a toddler splash area (Nemo themed) located in the center on Deck 11 with huge glass panes for parents to monitor their kids.

The AquaDuck waterslide. The ever first water-coaster at sea is located atop the ship, featuring a 765 ft (233 m) long 4-decks high transparent tube, reaching the incredible 150 ft (46 m) above the ocean (there's a 42 inches (107 cm) height requirement). The "Nemo's Reef" is a small kids waterpark. And while speaking of water and pools - the adults only "Quiet Cove" pool area is a great place to hide from all the little angels and devils around the ship.

Follows the complete list of Disney Fantasy lounges, clubs and other entertainment venues for kids, teens, and adults.

  • Walt Disney Fantasy Theatre (1340-seat, offers live shows, aerial acrobatics performances, grand-style productions, 3D movies; with two evening shows - at 6:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.)
  • Fantasy's Atrium (3-deck high central ship area, featuring marble-carpet flooring, grand staircase, and panoramic glass elevators)

The Walt Disney ship Fantasy is the company's fourth (currently newest) liner, with sistership Disney Dream . Each vessel is 40% larger in size than the 2 older Disney ships Magic and Wonder . While its capacity (at double occupancy) is 2500, Fantasy can accommodate up to 4000 passengers at full/max occupancy (all berths).

The vessel (Mayer Neptun yard/hull number 688) is powered by MAN B&W marine diesel engines (3x 12-cyl, 2x 14-cyl) plus diesel generators (3x 14,4 MW, 2x 16,8 MW) with total power output 76,8 MW. The propulsion system is electric (based on two converteam propulsion motors) with total power output 26 MW, plus two FPPs (5-blade Fixed-Pitch Propellers/inward-turning).

The vessel was ordered on February 22, 2007. Ship design was announced on Oct 29, 2009, and the first steel cut was in March 2009. The vessel's construction started with the keel-laying ceremony held on February 11, 2011. The launch (float-out from drydock) was on January 8, 2012, and the ship was officially delivered to The Walt Disney Company on February 9, 2012 (at Port Bremerhaven ).

The inaugural call at Port NYC New York (first arrival in the USA) was on February 28, 2012. The liner was christened in NYC on March 1st (2012) by Godmother Mariah Carey (1970-born US singer, actress, record producer, entrepreneur). The hull's stern character is the Flying Elephant Dumbo.

The Disney ship's namesakes are Carnival Fantasy (1990-built) and the cruise ferries Color Fantasy (2004) and Moby Fantasy (2023).

Fantasy vs Magic (ships comparison, new features)

"Bibbiti Bobbiti Boutique" (the 1st at sea, similar to those at all Disney land parks where girls transform into princesses). The ship-Boutique is also transformed into a Pirates League (during the Caribbean Pirates-themed night party) where kids get transformed into pirates. Aqualab is another feature (was, because now they added it to the Magic during the 2013 refurbishment). The nightclub "districts" area ("Europa") transforms into several different "districts" representing famous European cities & countries. Among those - "Tube" (London, UK), "Ooh La La" (France), "O'Gill's Pub" (Ireland), "La Piazza" (Italy). "Satellite Falls" is the Fantasy's adults-only deck. The "Animator's Palate" dining room's dinner show is themed "Sorcerer Mickey's "Animation Magic". Guests may draw their own characters to be presented by Mickey the Sorcerer Mouse.

One of the most visited attractions on MS Disney Fantasy is the AquaDuck. This water park with a slide will throw you into the swimming pool after a craziest spin in a long tube over the very ocean. Fantasy was also the debut for the "Muppets at Sea" show. Muppets participate in an interactive game full of mysterious clues for the passengers.

The vessel's last drydock (for regularly scheduled maintenance works) was in 2020 (at Damen Shiprepair Yard in Brest France ).

Port Adventures on the Disney Fantasy Western Caribbean Itinerary

By Steve Baker, The Magic For Less Travel

My family and I recently sailed on the 7-night Western Caribbean itinerary on the Disney Fantasy.   As my children have grown into teenagers and young adults the way we tour on our Port Adventures has changed dramatically.  Long gone are some of milder, gentler tours.  For our stops in Grand Cayman, Costa Maya and Cozumel we decided we’d tackle on some of the more adventurous Port Adventures that the Disney Cruise Line has to offer!

Our first stop was in Georgetown, Grand Cayman, where we swam with and fed stingrays at Stingray City.  Since the ship tenders at this port, we took a short boat launch to the island where we met our tour group and were bussed to another dock where a larger boat took us out to Stingray City which is a sand barge seemingly in the middle of the ocean, but the water is quite shallow (waist to chest deep).  Here we were able to swim with, hold, pet and even feed the stingrays in some of the most beautiful waters I’ve ever been in.  The rays are not what I would categorize as aggressive, but they are very friendly and they do enjoy the squid they’re fed.  Word to the wary, this is not an adventure I’d recommend for anyone scared of sea life or being out in the middle of the ocean.  While everyone in my family thought it was awesome (and very different, in fact, from the stingray encounter at Castaway Cay), there were some participants who were squeamish and some children terrified of the rays.  Alas, they’re gentle and playful and a lot of fun!

My 16 year old son feeding one of the rays:

Stingray City:

Our second port was Costa Maya where we docked and took a bus to a remote beach area where we’d ride ATVs for the day on a guided tour.  This by far ranked as the most fun Port Adventure of our cruise.  After a safety briefing and learning how to operate our ATVs we donned bandanas (looking like bandits) to prevent inhaling of dirt, put on helmets and protective eye wear and off we went!  We first drove through the thick – and I mean densely thick – jungle across rugged terrain.  Once we were out of the jungle we hit the open beach where we were really able to pick up speed and fly – as in airborne – over sand dunes.  What a blast!  We took another detour back into the jungle again (which often is so dark from the dense brush that it seems like sunset) and then back out on the beach for more airtime.  After our ride we were able to enjoy a private beach where we could swim and do other watersports for the afternoon.

Me on my ATV at Costa Maya:

Optimized-DSCF0105

Our third port was Cozumel, where we decided to take a boat over to Playa del Carmen to Xplor Park, which is an underground flooded cave system with a zip line course built atop the dense jungle above.  Here we were able to swim through an amazing underwater cave system (the water is VERY cold!) that opens up to an enormous waterfall ending that reminded us all of something out of Jurassic Park.  We next hit the zip line course where we zip lined from station to station over the jungle – and even over wildlife including jaguars and crocodiles.  The last line of the course gives you a refreshing splashdown into one of the cave entrances and some of the views atop the jungle are breathtaking!  There is also a river course where you paddle through the underwater caves using your hands as oars and an ATV experience where you can drive through the cave system.  A traditional Mexican lunch is also served on this Adventure.

My family in the underwater cave waterfall:

My 16 year old son and 19 year old daughter zipping over the jungle:

Optimized-DSCF0234

Our fourth and final Port on this 7-night cruise was Castaway Cay were after three ports of incredible adventures we decided that simply laying around on the beach would be an adventure in and of itself.  I mean isn’t a Disney Cruise supposed to be relaxing?!

Disney Fantasy 7 Night Western Caribbean Port Adventures Review

Creating memories that will last a lifetime, that is why we Disney Cruise.  Our seven-night western Caribbean cruise a few weeks ago (July 2018) was nothing short of amazing.  This was our first time sailing this itinerary, so we got to experience some fantastic new ports of call with incredible port adventures. Let’s take a closer look at some of the Disney Cruise Western Caribbean Port Adventures.

All-Terrain Buggy and Snorkel at Punta Sur National Park – Cozumel, Mexico

Punta Sur

As an extra special early birthday present, I chose this adventure for my son specifically.  Littlest stayed on the ship and enjoyed the Oceaneer’s Club and Lab all day! With a quick walk off the boat to our ATVs, the tour hit the road pretty quick!  With a scenic 25 km drive to the Punta Sur Eco Park, it was a great way to see the city.

Once inside the park, words can’t describe how beautiful the area was.  That’s what I love as a mom the most, educational and FUN! My son ( as well as me and my husband) learned a lot about the Mayan culture and the history of the island.  Did you know that when a Mayan woman was pregnant, they would canoe over to the island to come to the temple for prayer, and THEN, canoe back to the mainland?! Or that the bigger temple was the first alert for incoming hurricanes by using conch shells!

Full disclosure it was HOT! Everyone in the tour by the end was begging to get to the beach LOL!  If you didn’t bring your gear to snorkel, the tour guides provided your fins, mask, and life vest (I brought our masks).  Omar took us out for a nice 30-minute swim. He showed us a real-life conch, snapper, and I got to touch a sea cucumber! Afterward, we enjoyed an amazing lunch at the shack on the beach!

If you want to really extend your port adventure be sure to look into going from Cozumel to Tulum (MEXICO). Tulum offers some of the most serene beaches in the world.

Cayman Dolphin Encounter – George Town, Grand Cayman

Dolphin Discovery

Back in fifth grade, a friend of mine went to Cancun and swam with the dolphins.  Since then, it has been a LIFE GOAL of mine to swim with the dolphins. This vacation I got to have the experience of a LIFETIME with my whole family.

Grand Cayman is an interesting island because the waters are shallow ships can’t pull into “port.”  We had to tender into George Town, which was surprisingly easy. The tender boats ran all day back and forth nonstop (no need to stress).

It was a 45-minute bus drive (fun riding on the wrong side of the road) along the coast to Dolphin Discovery.  Upon arrival, life vests were handed out, and directions were given on how to interact with “your” dolphin for the dolphin encounter.   Littlest was even able to follow along on the hand/arm signals (very easy). Once divided into groups (around 10), we walked down to the tanks.

Look at our faces (in the pictures) with the dolphin – PURE HAPPINESS!  Everyone got to kiss the dolphin on the lips, get kissed on the cheek, dance and then hold it. Our son got picked to do one other behavior – with his arm moving in a circle the dolphin would then move in a circle “standing” up.   Because littlest needed to go potty, my husband didn’t get his “own” time, but he didn’t care!  Between guests interactions, our dolphin trainer was sure to include fun facts about dolphins! Did you know they are born with all their teeth?

Disclaimer – you are NOT allowed to take your own video or photos.  That being said, our photo package for the “three” of us was $170. My husband was NOT happy about that, but he knew what this meant to me.  I got the digital download through the app which I downloaded once we returned home. Despite the photo fiasco, we’re already talking about doing the Dolphin extreme port adventure next time!

Dunn’s River Falls Express – Falmouth, Jamaica

Falmouth, Jamaica

Initially, we planned to do the Jamaica Bobsled and Dunn’s River Falls adventure for our parents’ only day off the ship.  Well, we were informed by the Oceaneer’s Club that with the little tykes they only like the family to be gone for no more than four hours.  Last minute aka the night before at 10 pm, I made a quick (frantic) call to Guest Relations. They were able to move us into the Dunn’s River Fall Express tour with no problems!

Disclaimer – this port adventure is NOT for young kids (I say middle school or older), adults who are not in good shape or the elderly;  Water shoes are a MUST; Make sure to have cash on hand to get some Jerk Chicken -$10/plate

Falmouth I have to say is stunning port! Our group was greeted, once off the ship, by our tour guide Grace Anne (from Chukka Tours), and we boarded the bus.  During our 45-minute bus ride, Grace provided us with interesting facts and history of the areas we drove through like where aluminum comes from and where Bob Marley grew up.  She also taught us how to speak Patois which was fun! Because some people did NOT get the memo about water shoes, we made a pit stop at a shop so guests could purchase them. I decided to grab a drink at the local bar for a Malibu Breeze!  Just before arriving at the park, Grace took orders for the world-famous Scotchies’ jerk chicken, so we could have some lunch once we returned to the bus.

Our group on the bus ended up getting split up between two different falls’ guides.  When you see pictures online, you only see the top half of the waterfalls. THEY ARE HUGE over 600 feet tall!  Starting at the bottom everyone forms a giant human chain, and slowly you start the climb. Because other ships were in port, the park was packed!  That would be my only complaint. I will say you get close with the people you’re climbing with since you’re in their hands and vice versa LOL! Some older people from our group ended up bowing out, and I saw some younger kids who were struggling next to our chain.

The water was chilly, but it felt great.  Our videographer tagged along the whole way up and was a blast!  There was a section to slide down and a deeper area where we all fell in backward.  Once we got higher up, the crowds thinned out. It felt like we were in the rainforest.  Halfway up I thought we were done, yea NOPE! Everyone was in good spirits though and had a blast.  Finally, at the top, it was great seeing the congratulatory sign! After that crazy adventure, we were ready for the jerk chicken waiting for us on the bus!  Our stateroom host and server were from that area of Jamaica and said we had to eat it! Well, they weren’t kidding, it was DELICIOUS! I didn’t put too much of the jerk sauce on because it was SPICY, but still, it was scrumptious!

ANIMATOR’S PALATE

The popular Animator’s Palate restaurant is on this ship as well, but a new twist has been added. An interactive dinner show called Animation Magic involves the guests in the animation shown during the meal. Guests are invited to draw characters in a template on their placemats when they first come into the restaurant; servers will collect the completed drawings, which later show up as animation on screens around the room. The guests’ names are shown in the credits and you will receive your drawings back with a special animator’s stamp added. The show uses special Disney-created software to bring the drawings to life, along with a brand-new musical score and never-before-scenes from Disney films. In addition to Animation Magic , Undersea Magic will also be shown on one of the other nights. Undersea Magic features Crush from Finding Nemo . Crush swims around the room on screens, interacting with diners and discussing his world under the sea.

ROYAL COURT

This restaurant serves French-inspired, continental cuisine and is inspired by the classic Disney films Cinderella , Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs , Beauty and the Beast , and Sleeping Beauty . Designed to look like a palace, some of the features include a whimsical chandelier, lighting fixtures made to look like Cinderella’s Carriage, mosaic tile murals of the princesses, and hidden images of glass slippers, apples, roses, and tiaras.

ENCHANTED GARDEN

Enchanted Garden serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner as the main dining restaurant. During the daytime meals, the ceiling is a bright blue sky.  For the evening meal, the Enchanted Garden transforms itself from day to night with a starry sky full of constellations. The decor is made to feel like you are eating in the famous gardens of Versailles, France. You are surrounded by white trellises, arches, and landscape artwork.  Lighting becomes part of the artwork, with the fixtures designed like glass flowers and light posts lining the center aisle.  The glass flowers “bloom” at night and become colorful, as the rest of the gardens open as well.  The centerpiece is a seven-foot-tall fountain with a Mickey Mouse statue in the center.

Cabanas is a Casual Dining restaurant that serves fresh food favorites. You have the option of eating indoors or outdoors on the pool deck. Cabanas is a buffet that also serves a few made-to-order food choices for breakfast and lunch. Cabanas is most easily accessible from the Aft elevators.

DISNEY FANTASY ENTERTAINMENT

disney fantasy cruise western caribbean itinerary

Entertainment aboard the Disney Fantasy is offered in unique settings, and all options are designed to fill your days at sea with memorable experiences. Guests can watch stage shows in the beautiful Walt Disney Theatre, first-run movies in the Buena Vista Theatre, and take part in character meet and greet across the ship.

Adults Only

Nightclubs and lounges on the Disney Fantasy bring the night to life with music, dancing, and socializing. From swanky to sporty, low key to high energy, you’ll find a hangout you’ll love amid the ship’s “adults-only at night” entertainment area, Europa.

Europa  is the Fantasy’s nighttime entertainment district, located on Deck 4, Aft. Exclusively for guests aged 18 and up, Europa is the place to be in the evening, offering guests the chance to “travel” through the clubs and lounges of Europe!

One night during each cruise, guests will experience an international street party – “Viva Europa!” Singers, dancers, and interactive performers will move through the 5 clubs, bringing the entertainment to a whole new level.

  • La Piazza  is a lounge inspired by the cities of Italy and their famous outdoor plazas. The bar here takes center stage – modeled after a vintage carousel and surrounded by colorful Venetian masks. A Vespa (complete with sidecar) and intimate booths add to the feeling of spending a romantic evening in Italy. La Piazza serves Italian favorites like sparkling Prosecco, Moretti Peroni beer, red and white wines, grappa, and limoncello.
  • O’Gill’s Pub  features classic Irish neighborhood pub decor and dark wood accented in brass. This is the place to be when the game’s on – HD TVs will broadcast live sporting events. O’Gills serves up Irish classics but with a Fantasy twist – their own private-label Irish Cream and vintage Irish whisky.
  • Ooh La La , the ship’s champagne bar, will remind guests of a French boudoir with Victorian furniture, velvet-tufted walls, and mirrors. The bar, designed to look like a sparkling jewelry box, serves Fantasy’s private label – Ooh La La Champagne by Taittinger.
  • The Tube  dance club is like stepping into the London transportation system. Floors are covered with route maps, Big Ben inspires the bar, and a photo op with one of four red English phone booths. The illuminated dance floor features a Union Jack flag. The Tube offers two live shows for their guests. “Pop!” will test guests’ trivia knowledge about pop culture, and “London Rocks!” brings English rock and roll to life with dancers, singers, and audience participation. Drinks served here include 1863 (the year London’s Tube opened) with vanilla vodka and Imperial English Breakfast Tea.
  • Skyline  has a chic penthouse feel and offers panoramic views of European skylines as they transform from day to night. From your seat, take in the views of St. Petersburg, Russia; Athens, Greece; Florence, Italy; Budapest, Hungary; Paris; London, and Barcelona. As the skyline changes, so do the music, the art, and the menu! Signature cocktails, inspired by the city of the day, are offered here. Because of its popularity in the Dream, Skyline on the Fantasy is one-third bigger than its predecessor.

Meridian Bar  is located on Deck 12 located between Palo and Remy. Enjoy a pre or post-dinner cocktail in this adults-only bar. The decor is inspired by the golden age of sea travel. A sextant navigational tool is embedded on the floor, the booths are decorated with buckles like old luggage and the walls are covered with leather maps and passport stamps.

For the Whole Family

disney fantasy cruise western caribbean itinerary

Like the other ships in the fleet, Disney Fantasy offers Broadway-style stage shows at night. Two new shows are being performed. Disney’s Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular is a musical comedy with many classic scenes and songs from the film that used to be presented in the Hyperion Theatre at Disney California Adventure Park. At times, performers will be in the theater’s aisles, making guests feel like they’re a part of the show. A new song, To Be Free, is included and was written for the show by Alan Menken, who composed the original score. In addition to the two new shows, other productions are a Welcome Aboard show, Disney’s Believe , and Frozen – A Musical Spectacular.

The D Lounge is the ship’s main hangout for games, dance parties, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities.

The “it’s a small world” group babysitting center is designed for little ones from 6 months to 3 years of age. This is the only option open to parents of the little ones as there is no in-room babysitting service on the ship. Unlike the planned programs for older children, the nursery has a charge per hour with a minimum of 1 hour. The charge is a little less per hour for additional children in the same family. Cancellations can be made 4 hours in advance without penalty.

Character meet-and-greets, storytelling sessions, dress-up opportunities, cool interactive games, and larger-than-life playgrounds are sure to inspire kids 3 to 12 years of age at the Oceaneer Club activity center that’s inhabited by classic Disney, Marvel, and Disney·Pixar characters.

DISNEY FANTASY RECREATION

disney fantasy cruise western caribbean itinerary

Like on the Disney Dream, the AquaDuck water coaster on the Disney Fantasy features 250 yards of transparent tubing that sends you twisting and turning over the top decks and out over the sea. This coaster is 765 feet long and features a 4-deck drop. Riders must be 42″ tall to ride with someone else and 54″ to ride alone. If a rider is under 7 years old, they must ride with someone 14 or older.

disney fantasy cruise western caribbean itinerary

The 1,800-square-foot AquaLab water play area on Deck 12 is filled with water pop jets, geysers, and bubblers, perfect for keeping the whole family cool. Just as Disney does with all its attractions, there is a story about how AquaLab came to be. Huey, Dewey, and Louie, Donald Duck’s nephews, created the AquaLab, but it’s up to young cruisers to operate the AquaLab to keep the AquaDuck up and running for the other guests! At three different stations, there are wheels to turn and levers to pull, “controlling” the speed and temperature of the AquaDuck water coaster.  One leaky wall invites kids to cover squirting holes and pipes, soaking themselves.  The Ducky Dinghy leaks water from overhead.

disney fantasy cruise western caribbean itinerary

AquaLab isn’t the only new water feature on Disney Fantasy. On Deck 12 Forward, a canopy shades a fountain surrounded by lounge chairs for relaxing near the water. Satellite Falls, an adults-only area on Deck 13 Forward, includes a circular splash pool with benches and a cascading rain curtain.

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique

Themed “dress-up nights” have always been popular on Disney cruise ships, so Disney Cruise Line is making things a little easier for guests on the Fantasy. The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is available for makeovers, including hair, makeup, nails, and costumes. Exclusive Disney Cruise Line packages are available, allowing guests to transform into Captain Mickey Mouse, Princess Minnie Mouse, and First Mate Minnie Mouse. For the pirate nights, the Boutique becomes the Pirate’s League, offering such pirate garb as makeup, swords, earrings, and eye patches. A cancellation fee will be applied for no-shows or for failure to cancel 24 hours before the appointment.

disney fantasy cruise western caribbean itinerary

The Fitness Center onboard the Disney Fantasy is located on Deck 11/Forward and is a full-service facility that hosts aerobic, yoga, and Pilates classes and health seminars. Weight machines, ellipticals, and personal trainers ($89 for a 60-minute session) will keep you in great shape while on vacation! The 2,500-square-foot fitness center is open to guests ages 18 and older from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., except on days when the ship is docked.

Which Disney Western Caribbean Cruise Should You Choose?

Fancy The Fantasy

Now you know all the dates and the possibilities you may be overwhelmed and not know which Disney Western Caribbean cruise to book. There are some questions that you can ask yourself to narrow it down so that you can make a choice.

Probably the first question that you need to ask yourself is, how flexible are you with your Disney cruise dates? Most people have a limited time frame that they can travel, so you need to look at this question first to see if this rules out any of the options.

Which port is it easier for your family to sail from? If you are combining a Disney cruise with a visit to Walt Disney World you will most likely want to sail from Port Canaveral as this is an easy transfer from the parks. However, if you live in the Western United States, Galveston may be easier to get to and start your cruise. Some people may also find Miami a better option for them.

Another very important question is which Disney ship do you want to sail on? They all have their own special personalities and features.

The newest ship is the Disney Fantasy. It has the Aquaduck which is a huge draw for many people.

It is the biggest ship and many would say that the Fantasy is the best. The Disney Fantasy also has the largest choice of dates for your vacation. The Fantasy has the most 7 night Western Caribbean sailings of all of the Disney ships.

The Water Cannon

To read more about the Aquaduck here is our guide:

Disney Fantasy Aquaduck

However, you may want to sail on one of the classic ships – either the Disney Magic or the Disney Wonder.

We love the Disney Fantasy, but always see the Disney Wonder as our “first love”. The Magic and the Wonder are smaller than the newer ships, but in some ways, we prefer this.

Both the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder are recently re-imagined and so have a number of new features.

Take some time to read about the different ships to see which you think would be best for you and your family.

Price is, of course, a very important factor in deciding which Disney Caribbean cruise to choose. The Disney Fantasy tends to be more money per person per night than the Magic and the Wonder.

disneyshipsandiego

This is very much a generalization and will depend upon which sailing you choose and how far ahead you book.

However, the lower fares are generally found on the classic ships of the Disney Wonder and Magic. This may be the deciding factor for you.

The next question is do you have a particular port stop that you want to see? Most of the itineraries include the same port stops, but there are variations.

If you are set on going to Key West Florida, your choices are going to be pretty limited as only the February 11th, 2018 sailing on the Disney Wonder has this port stop on a Western Caribbean sailing.

Most of the other choices are going to be rather easier for you as most of the sailings go to the same ports. It really doesn’t tend to matter which ports are in which order.

You need to ask yourself all these questions so that you can narrow down your choice and then decide upon the perfect Disney Caribbean cruise.

Which Stateroom Should You Choose for Your Disney Western Caribbean Cruise?

disneycruisestateroom

This is a very important decision because this will determine the cost of your Disney Western Caribbean cruise.

We have sailed in many different categories of stateroom on the Disney ships and we would say that we haven’t found that our level of enjoyment was directly proportional to the category of the stateroom we chose!

We have been just as happy in an Oceanview Stateroom as we have in the Deluxe Family Oceanview Staterooms with Verandah.

Of course, it is nice to have a balcony and some extra space, but we think the Disney cruise staterooms are comfortable and spacious.

If you don’t want to spend that extra money on a larger stateroom and you think that your family can survive in a small space for 7 nights we think that you should go for the category that you can comfortably fit into your budget.

We have written a comprehensive guide to staterooms on the Disney Fantasy and you can find that by clicking on the link below:

Isn’t A Disney Caribbean Cruise Just For Kids?

A Quiet Night at Quiet Cove

We know that it is a very common misconception that Disney cruises are just for kids. They really aren’t.

Anyone who is already a fan of the Disney parks is probably already convinced that they can have fun, even as a grown-up on a Disney cruise. Disney brings out the child in all of us and that is a big part of the appeal.

However, Disney cruise lines have made very sure that they appeal to the adults as well as to the children. They have dedicated spaces and entertainment on the Disney ships which are meant just for the adults.

All of the ships have a very large amount of space and facilities which are childfree. The Disney Fantasy, in particular, has a huge amount of space which is for the adults only. The pool deck spaces are a sanctuary for adults looking for child-free time.

Still not convinced? If you want to bring back the romance in your life check out our guide:

Top 10 Romantic Things To Do on a Disney Cruise

What Makes a Disney Western Caribbean Cruise Worth It?

disneytransatlanticcruise

We think that Disney cruises offer amazing value for money. Of course, we know that their basic price per night is more than many other cruise lines.

However, we really do go by the saying “You get what you pay for”.

We have sailed on many other cruise lines and we still rate Disney the highest by a long way. This is not just because we are Disney fans, but because their cruises just offer a much higher quality of experience.

There are a number of important differences which we think makes Disney a much better value than other cruise lines. Here are some of the reasons which we think sets Disney apart.

Disney Cruise Ship Entertainment

Disneywondertheater

Disney knows how to put on a very impressive show. You will experience Broadway-quality shows and this is all included in your cruise price. We know of no other cruise line which even comes close to this.

Of course, these are all Disney themed and if you are not a fan of the Mouse you will probably not enjoy the shows.

However, who is going on a Disney cruise who really isn’t a fan of Disney? If you even have a passing interest in the House of Mouse you will be impressed by the shows.

All of the Disney cruise ships have their own shows. If we had to pick a cruise ship with our favorite shows we would pick the Disney Wonder as it has “Golden Mickeys” and the new “Frozen, A Musical Spectacular”.

However, it is really difficult to choose a winner as all the Disney ships have amazing stage shows.

The Disney Magic has a number of stage shows including the newest “Disney Tangled: The Musical” and the always popular “Disney Dreams – An Enchanted Classic”.

The Disney Fantasy favorites include “Frozen, A Musical Spectacular”, which is also on the Disney Wonder.

Really Disney excels at the big production shows. No one comes close. Think about how much it would cost if you took your family of 4 to a Broadway Disney show.

You would not have change from $500 so we think of that as part of the value of a Disney cruise. It really is an excellent value for entertainment.

The Buena Vista Theater also shows a lot of great Disney movies. If there is a Disney premier it will be shown on the ship.

You can see classic Disney movies as well as new releases in this very comfortable setting. Again, if you think about how much a trip to the movies would be for your family. This all adds great value to a Disney Caribbean cruise.

Disney Cruise Dining

disneydreamfood

No one does it quite like Disney with the dining concept either. We admit that the food can be hit and miss. This actually seems to be the norm these days on most cruise lines as the standard of food declines.

However, what we really love about Disney cruise lines is Disney rotational dining . What this means is that you get to experience three different restaurants at least once, and you take your wait staff with you.

The rotational dining experience is unique to Disney cruises. We think it is genius. Instead of going to the same restaurant every evening on your cruise you get to “rotate”.

disneymagicfood

In other words, you go to a different restaurant every evening. As you can imagine, Disney restaurants are the most imaginative at sea.

Where else can you draw a figure and then see it animated on the wall at the end of your meal?

Animators Palate is one of the highest-rated restaurants on the Disney ships. If you sail on the Disney Fantasy you can even have a conversation with Finding Nemo’s Crush Turtle whilst you eat your meal.

The attention to detail in all of the Disney cruise restaurants is amazing. It is more than a place to dine. It is an immersive experience.

The attention to detail in all of the Disney cruise restaurants is outstanding. The food is sometimes very good. Other times it is a miss.

However, as an overall experience, you will look forward to dining in the rotational restaurants on your Disney cruise.

The best thing is that the food is all included in your basic Disney cruise rate.

Sure, you can upgrade to one of the Disney adult restaurants if you want a treat – they are really very good for a reasonable upcharge. However, the included dining is going to be more than enough.

disneywondertritonsrestaurant

Another great thing about Disney cruise rotational dining? The service. Your wait staff will follow you to each restaurant.

The great thing about this is that they get to know you very quickly. They are the best waiters we have ever experienced at sea. They get to know what you need and so you will arrive on your second day to your favorite drinks.

Nothing is too much trouble for your server and almost without exception (yes we have seen one bad waiter out of many) they will look after you as though they are family. We have never experienced that on any other cruise line apart from Disney.

Disney Castaway Cay

Disney's Human Element - Chase the Oasis

Castaway Cay is Disney’s private island in the Bahamas. It is paradise. There are no tender boats to get on the island.

Disney thought of everything and built a dock so that you can step right off the ship and on to the island. That kind of fundamental detail makes a very big difference from the very start.

They have pretty much thought of everything on Castaway Cay. There are separate idyllic beaches for the family as well as having a separate adult-only and supervised kids only beach.

You can not spend anything on Castaway Cay if you don’t want to. You simply walk off the ship and go to the beach.

Sure, you can spend money on activities, but you really don’t need to. A buffet lunch is provided and is included in your cruise fare.

Disney - Welcome to Paradise

All of the beaches are idyllic. The white sand and the incredibly pleasant ocean are all designed so that you have the ultimate island experience.

Cruisers consistently rate their experience on Castaway Cay as the highlight of their cruise. Other cruise lines have private islands, but none comes close to offering the Castway Cay experience .

Disney Characters

disneycruisecharacters

A Disney cruise is a great opportunity to see Disney characters. It is so much more of an immersive experience than at the parks. It is somehow exciting every time Mickey Mouse passes you in the corridor.

There are lots of scheduled character greetings each day. There are lines, but it is so much easier to see the Disney characters than it is in the parks.

Disney Pirates in the Caribbean Deck Party

Disneycruiseplaceholder

This is another very unique Disney cruise experience – The Pirates in the Caribbean Deck Party. This is a whole lot of fun on your Disney cruise. The evening starts with a pirate-themed dinner in your rotational dining restaurant. Everyone is encouraged to join in the pirate fun. Some guests dress up as pirates and of course, there is plenty of pirate merchandise for you to purchase on the ship.

Captain Jack Sparrow and Mickey Mouse are an unusual, but highly entertaining combination. At the end of the deck party, the highlight is the fireworks which appear high in the sky at the side of the ship.

Disney is the only cruise line authorized to have a firework display on a ship. The end of the evening is a very lavish buffet – it is worth seeing the display even if you have had so much food during the day that you simply cannot have anymore!

Disney Kids Clubs

disneycruisekidsclubs

As you would expect, Disney cruises do this very well. There are kids clubs for every specific age group up to the age of 17.

Disney is one of the very few cruise lines with a babysitting service for the under 3s. The baby and toddler babysitting service does have a nominal extra charge, but everything else is free.

The kids themed spaces are excellent, with lots of organized activities for the kids. You will probably have a problem getting your kids out of the kid’s clubs!

A Disney Cruise is For Adults Too

disneywonderbars

When you think Disney cruises you tend to think that it’s all about the kids. Whilst it is true that there are many things to keep the kids happy, Disney definitely thought just as much about keeping the adults entertained as the young ones.

Every ship has an adults only area where the grown-ups can be child-free for a while. This takes up a lot of space on each of the ships, particularly the Disney Fantasy.

There is also adults only dining available. Palo is on all of the Disney cruise ships. For a small extra charge, you can enjoy a fabulous brunch or dinner.

Appetizer at Remy's

The newer Disney Dream and Fantasy have the multiple award-winning gourmet restaurant, Remy, to keep the adults very happy. For an extra charge, you can enjoy Michelin 3-star restaurant quality food and service.

If you want to know more about what a great job Disney cruises do in making adults feel just as special as the children you can read our guide at:

Is A Disney Western Caribbean Cruise Worth It?

disneycruiseworthit

In our opinion, we absolutely think that it is. It is pretty obvious that we are huge Disney fans. However, this is not the only reason why we would choose a Disney Western Caribbean cruise over any other cruise line.

We are seasoned cruise travelers and we admit that we sail on non-Disney cruises. This is because we love the cruise experience and to be honest, many other cruise lines cost less than Disney.

However, given the choice between one Disney Western Caribbean cruise and two cruises with a rival cruise line we would choose Disney. Why? Because they are just of a higher standard.

When you have limited vacation time, as most of us do, you need to choose your experiences carefully. For us, Disney cruises win every time. We are careful where our cruise dollars go, but for us, Disney cruises win every time.

The Disney Fantasy Western Caribbean Cruise is our first choice. What about you? Let us know if you are thinking of your first Disney Western Caribbean Cruise or are already a veteran of the Disney cruise experience.

Port of Call Port of Call (Arrival, Departure)

Port Canaveral

disney fantasy cruise western caribbean itinerary

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to find Port Canaveral thrilling. This is the home of the Kennedy Space Center, where you can catch a fascinating glimpse into the history - and future - of the U.S. space program. Or, take a leisurely stroll along the Cocoa Beach Pier; the shopping is great and the beach views are truly "out of this world."

Lighthouse Point

Lighthouse Point, Bahamas, or simply Lighthouse Point, is a private peninsula in The Bahamas which serves as an exclusive port for the Disney Cruise Line ships. It is located in the south-eastern region of Bannerman Town, Eleuthera. In March 2019, The Walt Disney Company purchased the peninsula from the Bahamian government, giving the company control over the area.

Castaway Cay

disney fantasy cruise western caribbean itinerary

Castaway Cay is a private island in the Bahamas which serves as an exclusive port for the Disney Cruise Line ships. It is located near Great Abaco Island and was formerly known as Gorda Cay. In 1997, The Walt Disney Company purchased a 99-year land lease for the cay from the Bahamian government, set to expire in 2096, giving the company substantial control over the island. Castaway Cay was the first private island in the cruise industry where the ship docks alongside so guests do not have to tender to land. The island is still largely undeveloped, as only 55 of the 1,000 acres (4.0 km2) are being used. Castaway Cay now has approximately 60 Disney Cruise Line permanent residents who keep the island running daily; the numbers fluctuate between the busy season and off season.

Animator's Palate

Main Dining

Rotational Dining:  The Disney Cruise Line method for making sure each guest experiences each themed dining environment onboard. Every evening you dine with the same tablemates and have the same servers as you "rotate" to one of the three main restaurants: Animator's Palate, Enchanted Garden, and Royal Court. You will be given your schedule when you board, so you'll know exactly when you'll enjoy the unique atmosphere of each restaurant.

Animator's Palate:  Animator's Palate is a Main Dining restaurant located on Deck 3, Aft aboard the Disney Fantasy that serves dinner. Paying homage to the magic of Disney animation, Animator's Palate includes a unique dinner show starring some of your favorite Disney characters.

Enchanted Garden:  Enchanted Garden on the Disney Fantasy is a Main Dining restaurant located on Deck 2, Midship that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Inspired by the opulent gardens of Versailles, Enchanted Garden magically transforms from day to night.

Royal Court:  Royal Court is a Rotational Dining restaurant located on Deck 3, Midship aboard the Disney Fantasy that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Inspired by the classic Disney films Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Beauty and the Beast and Sleeping Beauty, the décor and atmosphere of Royal Court is especially beautiful.

Offering the most upscale and romantic dining experience available onboard, the restaurant serves the finest in French-inspired cuisine for dinner. This restaurant is available for an additional cost.

Serving blended beverages bursting with fresh fruit and vegetables, Senses Juice Bar provides a vitamin-infused, protein-filled boost after a vigorous workout or massage. This restaurant is available for an additional cost.

Casual Dining

Cabanas:  Cabanas is an indoor/outdoor Casual Dining restaurant located on Deck 11, Aft on the Disney Fantasy that serves a culinary confection of fresh food favorites. At breakfast and lunch, Cabanas offers the finest in made-to-order dining; at dinnertime, the restaurant is transformed into a table-service dining room serving Main Dining delights.

Eye Scream Treats:  Inspired by the friendly, one-eyed monster Mike Wazowski from the Disney "Pixar animated feature Monsters, Inc., Eye Scream Treats offers soft-serve ice cream with plenty of popular sundae toppings.

Flo's Cafe:  Grab a quick bite to eat at Flo's Café, located near Donald's Pool on Deck 11. Themed to popular characters from the Disney "Pixar film Cars, like Luigi's Pizza, Tow Mater's Grill and Fillmore's Favorites, this quick-service eatery serves burgers, chicken tenders, pizza, fresh fruit, salads and sandwich wraps.

Frozone Treats:  Named after the ice-creating superhero in the Disney "Pixar movie The Incredibles, Frozone Treats mixes delicious fruit smoothies.

Sweet on You:  Savor the flavors… indulge in delightfully decadent frozen desserts and other sweet treats!

Room Service:  Disney Cruise Line Room Service is available 24 hours a day for your convenience.
